21 Notes to My Son on His 21st Birthday

Dear Grant,

By now you well know that I can’t let big events pass without pouring out my heart through words on a page.  I’m pretty sure I just sat down yesterday to write to you on your 16th birthday.  And just a few days before that, it was your first.  But now, here we are on your 21st, and just like back then, I have some things I want you to know.  For these past 21 years since you first gave me the title of Mom, I have taken this job seriously and (wow!) it’s been a roller coaster at times.  You have pushed me to lengths I had never imagined myself going, and while not all of those moments have been pretty (Heaven knows some of them are blocked out of my memory!), all of my motives have been for one goal– that I help you become the person God made you to be.  This will be my mission forever, so don’t worry–you can be assured you will have my advice to guide you for all of my life.  This I solemnly swear, and you’re welcome!  And so I have gathered some thoughts for this milestone for you to refer to as you head into your next year of life and all of those after that.

1.  Get experience as cheaply as you can.  This is what Papa would often say.  And of course, what he meant was to learn from other people’s mistakes so that you don’t have to make your own.  This is priceless advice.  Remember it always.

2.  You will never go wrong by choosing right.  No matter what it costs you or what you may have to give up in the present, doing the right thing is always the right choice.

3.  Make your bed every day.  Not only will this do your mom’s heart good, but it sets things in order which will cause you to develop discipline which will help you in many other areas of your life.

4.  Be the first to say “I’m sorry”.  I promise you this:  if you will get into the habit of humbling yourself, even when you may not feel you were wrong, you will be amazed by the results.

5.  Forgive. It could save you from wasting a perfectly good life.

6.  Be punctual.  It speaks volumes.

7.  Do what you say you will do.  Don’t cancel plans with someone unless it is absolutely unavoidable.  Otherwise, you are sending the message that the other person’s plans are not as important as yours.

8.  Be a servant.  You should never feel comfortable sitting if someone else is up working.  Offer to help, and if they refuse, be sure to be overtly grateful.

9.  Protect your family name.  Your actions will affect how your family is viewed, whether you think it’s fair or not.  So don’t be the one to tarnish a good name.  (Proverbs 22:1)

10.  Don’t ever get a tattoo.  Just because your mother said so.  Just don’t.

11.  Never get caught up in the feeling of entitlement.  The person beside you has the same God-given rights you do.  It’s only by His grace that we enjoy every blessing we have.  Never forget that.

12.  Strive for humility.  From having humility and the fear of the Lord, come riches and honor and life.  (Proverbs 22:4)

13.  Speak life.  Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), and words, both positive and negative, can stay with a person for a lifetime.

14.  Regard your relationships as treasures and don’t do anything to damage them.  As someone we love has said, relationships and the word of God are the two most important things in this world.

15.  Live every single day with integrity.  This one thing is the key if you want your own children to be blessed.  My life is living proof of this principle, as I hope yours will be.  The just man walks in integrity, and his children are blessed because of it. (Proverbs 20:7)

16.  Be the one to smile first.  You have no idea what it could mean to the other person.

17.  Don’t whine.  There are few things more disgraceful than a grown man who is whining.

18.  Look past a person’s offenses toward you in an effort to understand the reason behind their actions instead.  Then ask God to help you know how to help them.

19.  Never take for granted the immeasurable blessings of the many wonderful influences that have been poured into your life.  And then thank God for them by choosing to influence others in the same way.

20.  Restore the faith of our country toward Millennials.  Keep your respect for America, its flag, its freedoms, and every valuable person who has sacrificed to give us these things.

21.  Live like Jesus and make it your life goal to help others know Him.

I’ll be working on my my list for when you’re 42.  And maybe even 84.

And be assured that I’ve taken note of the many things you’ve taught me as well throughout your 21 years.  Thank you for helping me become a better person through the lessons I’ve learned from you.  Dad and I are so proud of you and very honored that God chose us to be your parents.  When we chose your name, we knew that it meant “Great”, and we told you we knew God had something great in store for your life.  Now, here we are watching it unfold, and it truly is something great to behold.

Wow, this is one of the most beautiful parenting letters I have ever read. I don’t make a habit of replying to anyone on social media. But I want you to know that I really treasure what you wrote to your son. I was looking up ideas for what to write to my son on his 21st which is coming up in February. Aging used to be something I feared until I got to know you, a person who has now reached the age of 50 while simultaneously defining what it means to age gracefully. Aging gracefully means you may see changes on the outside, but on the inside you still possess the same zest for life, if not more, than someone who is new to the world. And this is also not to insinuate that there is anything wrong with the outside, for in my humble opinion you are the personification of the age old proverb that if a person is beautiful internally, it will reflect on them externally. How to Write a 21st Birthday Speech

Write your speech for a loved one's 21st birthday ahead of time so you're prepared and don't embarrass the birthday celebrant or yourself. Your speech should reflect your personality and your relationship with the birthday celebrant. Your speech can be sentimental, funny or both depending on how comfortable you are speaking in front of everyone and what message you want to convey to the birthday celebrant. You looked fresh as a daisy and you are still so beautiful.

You meant so much to me and I wanted everything to be perfect.

I still remember feeding before you dozed off and your baby cries woke me up in the deep of the night to look after you like a guardian angel.

You were an easy baby and I vowed to make sure you grow feeling truly loved no matter what life threw at us.

Growing up, you were a ball of energy and you kept me on my toes.

I have lost count of the many times I run after you and you scared the daylights out of me when you got lost on April Fools.

You apparently had gone into hiding in the wardrobe and I looked all around frantically for you.

Something told me to open it and when I did, you were…oh my gosh... soundly asleep like a log.

Though parenting you wasn’t easy as I thought it would, it was very fulfilling because you gave me so many reasons to be proud of you every step of the way.

I could never count my many wishes for you …

Now, here you are ready to take on the world and I am confident you will weather the storms of life because your dad and I have shown you by example what it really means to make a difference in your own world.

I want you to realize that life will not always fair. When you are at the end of your rope and feel you have nowhere to turn, please remember what I have tried so hard to teach you, God is always there.

You will forever be our bright morning star but from this moment on, you have to be the salt and light of your world.

To the world, you may be seen as an adult but to me, you will always be my baby, my first love, my heart, my only child. We love you so much!

Get This Right And You’ll Make It

Before we get down to business, I want you to take note of this as it can impede your progress.

You see, it’s pretty normal to feel nervous when you are asked to address any audience.

It gets even more terrifying as if you had been spooked when you don’t even know what to say or you goofed big when you had to say a few words before an audience at some point in the past.

As you get set to say something at your son’s birthday celebrations, a little voice I refer to as the voice of defeat will remind you of your past failures and if you dwell on it, you’re going to feel humiliated.

To get the best words, you have to first put yourself in the mood.

What does that mean exactly? I’m glad you asked.

As a speechwriter, I frequently do this when I have what seems like a tough task to handle.

I go to youtube.com, my favorite video sharing platform, and pop into the search box my keywords.

So, in this case, your keyword and its variants will be the 21 st birthday speech for your daughter if you’re paying tribute to your lovely girl.

Make Sure It’s In This Order

The body follows the introduction and the ideas should follow in chronological order.

To come up with good ideas for your draft, you should create an outline of your speech.

Here are pointers to help you do that.

Provide answers to these simple questions

• How did you feel before your son or daughter was born?
• How did you feel on the day your child was born?
• What were the early years like?
• How did you feel when she was growing up and what was your dream for him or her?
• What fond memories do you have of your son or daughter?
• What is your dream for the next chapter of your child’s life?
• What are your best wishes for your son or daughter?

If you go back to that example, you will notice that Sherry’s delivery is built on the questions above.

So, this is what I want you to do now.

Go grab your pen and notepad and answer those questions in that order.

Then, create a rough draft based on your responses.

Finally, let’s review Sherry’s conclusion briefly.

To the world you may be seen as an adult but to me you will always be my baby, my first love, my heart, my only child. We love you so much!

Your concluding remarks are equally as important as your introduction because last impressions stick the most when it comes to delivering speeches.

To end with a bang or make your last lines stand out, you can employ some of the tools I recommended for your opener.

The first time you got wasted and threw up on mum’s favourite gnome may be funny for some, but if your elderly grandparents are around, you’ll completely spoil their image of you as the angelic, innocent grandchild. Instead, have a dig at yourself, and try including an anecdote about that time you failed to read 24-hour time and ended up stranded at a bus stop in sleepy Somerset at 2 am on the last day of your holiday.

Know your audience and craft a speech with tasteful humour that will get the laughs, not the room-silencing, disapproving glares on your very day.

Choose your topic

Say something meaningful, interesting and relevant to your audience. Choose a topic that you know your guests can relate to, like the importance of friendship, lessons you’ve learnt over the past year or how much you’ve matured as a person since turning 21. Alternatively, if you want to keep it light-hearted and fun, tell a few stories about your most cherished memories from childhood, or how you’ve been affected by the people in your life. Keep it short and sweet, but make sure that every sentence packs a punch and resonates with your audience.

Say your birthday wish

Be sure to include your birthday wish in your speech as well. Make a thoughtful and heartfelt request or hope for the year ahead, be it world peace, an end to poverty or an abundance of career opportunities. And if you’re feeling brave, make it unique and personal like a romantic gesture or a plea for never-ending friendship!

While your guests are definitely expecting a speech on your special day, they’re not here to listen to you mumble about the great life that you live or tell dumb long-winded stories about the people that you love. They’re here to party, and party they will, as long as you don’t kill the vibe with an uncomfortable speech.

After a few drinks, and a bit of dancing, the attention span of your mates is likely to dwindle, so it’s important to keep things brief. Stick to a couple of minutes, and prepare a dancey playlist to lift the atmosphere and get the dance floor going post-speech.

The best speeches are those that are obviously prepared but allow room for a little flexibility. Who knows what’ll happen on the day. Your best mate or mum might interrupt with their own anecdote just as you’re getting to the best bit.

If your nearest and dearest are a talkative bunch, let them know your plan before the big day so that you (and your guests) are not bombarded with five boring, overly sappy speeches. This situation is a guaranteed mood killer and a sure-fire way to have your 21st birthday party remembered for all the wrong reasons.

As a professional birthday speechwriter, I have written many milestone birthday speeches, including 21st, 40th, 50th, 80th and more. When it comes to creating an entertaining and memorable speech for a birthday party, you might not be sure how to begin. Here are a few tips for creating a birthday speech, whether it’s for your birthday or that of a colleague, friend or loved one.

Is it for your birthday or someone else’s birthday?

This will make a big difference in how you create this speech. If it’s for yourself, the speech will include thanking people for attending, sharing your memories (successes and challenges), mentioning the impact of your friends and family, and looking to the future. For example, if you are delivering a 50th birthday speech, you will cover important events and people in your life, thank people who have helped you along the way (parents, spouse, other family and friends, etc) and speak about plans for the future. It’s a big day of your life, so you’ll want to think about, plan and write a birthday speech well in advance. 

If a speech is directed at someone else who’s celebrating their birthday, the speech will be a bit different. In this case, it’s to honour that person and help them celebrate. This could include an overview of their life, major achievements and milestones, and best wishes for the future. Everybody loves funny birthday speeches, so it’s always a good idea to include some humour. The best way to do this is to tell funny stories about the person. If it’s a birthday speech for a best friend, it could include funny things that happened to you. 

21st birthday speech

Typically, this is delivered at a 21st birthday party by one of the parents or a close friend. The speaker reflects on the 21 years and offers best wishes for the future. If you are a parent giving a 21st birthday speech, you could mention their birth, what they were like as a baby, key milestones from the childhood and young adult years, and challenges and achievements. The best part of a 21st birthday speech is the opportunity for humour. Think back to all the funny things that happened over the years and include a few of these. Avoid things that might be too embarrassing or you might not speak to your child again. But seriously, a 21st birthday speech is a great time to honour a family member as they enter the next phase of their life. 

Here’s an example of a funny story from a 21st birthday speech for a daughter: 

Tanya has always known exactly what she wants and moves mountains to get it. When she was little, that included mountains of clothes! Sometimes it took us 45 minutes to an hour to get Tanya dressed for kinder in the morning. Her bedroom floor at home may have looked as though a tornado had ripped through it, but Tanya always stepped into kinder in style with a perfectly co-ordinated outfit. 

If you choose to include funny stories, it helps if your audience members have a sense of humour. 

Milestone speech for a best friend or loved one

Whether it’s for a friend’s 40th, 50th, 60th or 70th birthday, you can highlight your relationship with them and how you’ve been through thick and thin together. Speak about the best qualities of your amazing friend and provide a few examples or stories to support this. 

The birthday toast

Whether it’s for your child’s, spouse’s or friend’s birthday, the birthday toast is an essential closing to the speech. Depending on your relationship, it could be a serious or funny birthday toast. Here’s one example from a husband to his wife on her 50th birthday: 

Please join me in a toast to Belinda. Belinda, I am truly grateful for the wonderful times we have had and I anticipate many more to come. You mean so much to me, our family and our friends. As we grow older and our love grows stronger, I look forward to supporting each other, sharing good times and creating more happy memories together. Happy Birthday, Belinda!

Yep, Dad’s getting on and wants to reminisce, friends are celebrating their 21st birthday party  and want jokes that’ll dull the pain, and your third cousin just wants some filler while the candles are being lit. If you’ve been “privileged” with the task of presenting for a shindig, we’ve lined up a few birthday speech writing tips to keep the event as quick and painless as possible for everyone involved.

Scan the room

Ask the party planner about the guests rocking up. If toddlers or grandparents with heart conditions are in the front row, you may want to steer clear of any risqué anecdotes. Your buddy’s wife probably doesn’t want to hear an extended speech about his dating record, either. Know your crowd.

Let everyone get a few drinks in

Barring drunk uncle Larry, who’s bound to have tottered in half-cut anyway, most guests will probably take a little while to loosen up. Give them an hour or so to pound back a couple of beers before trying your hand at entertainment. Trust us: the jokes will seem infinitely funnier.

On that note, it’s a good idea to keep birthday speeches light and fluffy. Let’s face it, half the guests are probably annoyed at how long the cake’s taking, and the other half are probably trying to break up a family brawl across the room. A funny speech can set a great vibe and act as a welcome distraction.

Sadly, you’re not immortal

Before you start teasing the birthday boy or girl relentlessly, be aware that you probably don’t have the power to stay 29 forever. Your time will come, and they will find you.

A letter to my daughter on her 21st Birthday

As I wake early on this particular day, my heart is bursting with pride. My gorgeous daughter i s now 21! You make me proud in many ways, and I love watching you grow into the beautiful, strong young lady you have become. I say it every year, but I can not believe my baby girl is now a young adult! Another lap around the sun, another year older and another year of loving you.

It feels like yesterday when we found out I was pregnant and the joy in your father’s eye when we were told the baby moving around on the screen was, in fact, a girl. I knew at that moment that you would always be daddy’s little girl. Things haven’t changed much since then, you will always be the apple in his eye, and even when you have children of your own, you will always be daddy’s little girl.

For me, you have always been exceptional; from the first time I laid eyes on you, I knew I had fallen in love, and I knew I felt I needed to protect you forever, even if you and when you no longer need it.

As years have passed, you have developed into a kind-hearted, loyal, considerate friend, caring sister, and loving daughter. You stand up for what you believe in and never shy from competition . Your strong-minded beliefs and passionate energy makes me realise how lucky I am to call you my daughter.

Your huge smile lights up a room, and your infectious laugh ensures everyone around you is along for the ride. So don’t change for anyone! Just keep being you.

Although we may not always see eye to eye, you will always have my support in all that you do. I believe in you, and I look forward to seeing where this journey will take you. So keep reaching for those stars because someday, I know you will get there because you deserve everything that comes your way.

If I could give you three things today, it would be the courage to face all that comes your way, the confidence to love yourself during all stages of your life and the wisdom to understand how much we love you.

America, the path that led me here in recent weeks, was no doubt… unexpected. But I’m no stranger to unlikely journeys. My mother Shyamala Harris had one of her own. I miss her every day. Especially now. And I know she’s looking down tonight. And smiling. My mother was 19 when she crossed the world alone. Traveling from India to California. With an unshakeable dream to be the scientist who would cure breast cancer. When she finished school, she was supposed to return home to a traditional arranged marriage. But, as fate would have it, she met my father, Donald Harris. A student from Jamaica. They fell in love and got married. And that act of self-determination made my sister Maya and me. Growing up, we moved a lot. I will always remember that big Mayflower truck packed with all our belongings. Ready to go. To Illinois. To Wisconsin. And wherever our parents’ jobs took us. My early memories of my parents together are joyful ones. A home filled with laughter and music. Aretha. Coltrane. And Miles. At the park, my mother would tell us to stay close. But my father would just smile, and say, "Run, Kamala. Run. Don’t be afraid. Don’t let anything stop you.” From my earliest years, he taught me to be fearless. But the harmony between my parents did not last. When I was in elementary school, they split up. And it was mostly my mother who raised us. Before she could finally afford to buy a home, she rented a small apartment in the East Bay. In the Bay, you either live in the hills or the flatlands. We, lived in the flats. A beautiful working-class neighborhood of firefighters, nurses and construction workers. All, who tended their lawns with pride.  My mother worked long hours. And, like many working parents, she leaned on a trusted circle to help raise us. Mrs. Shelton, who ran the daycare below us and became a second mother. Uncle Sherman. Aunt Mary. Uncle Freddy. And Auntie Chris.  None of them, family by blood. And all of them, family by love. Family who taught us how to make gumbo. How to play chess. And sometimes even let us win. Family who loved us. Believed in us. And told us we could be anything. Do anything. They instilled in us the values they personified. Community. Faith. And the importance of treating others as you would want to be treated. With kindness. Respect. And compassion. My mother was a brilliant, five-foot-tall, brown woman with an accent. And, as the eldest child, I saw how the world would sometimes treat her.  But she never lost her cool. She was tough. Courageous. A trailblazer in the fight for women’s health.  And she taught Maya and me a lesson that Michelle mentioned the other night — she taught us to never complain about injustice.  But…do something about it. She also taught us — never do anything half-assed. That’s, a direct quote. I grew up immersed in the ideals of the Civil Rights Movement. My parents had met at a civil rights gathering. And they made sure we learned about civil rights leaders, including lawyers like Thurgood Marshall and Constance Baker Motley. Those who battled in the courtroom to make real the Promise of America.  So, at a young age, I decided I wanted to do that work. I wanted to be a lawyer. And when it came time to choose – he type, of law I would pursue – I reflected on a pivotal moment in my life. When I was in high school, I started to notice something about my best friend Wanda. She was sad at school. And there were times she didn’t want to go home. So, one day, I asked if everything was alright and she confided in me that she was being sexually abused by her step-father. And I immediately told her she had to come stay with us. And she did.  That is one of the reasons I became a prosecutor. To protect people like Wanda. Because I believe everyone has a right to safety. To dignity. And to justice. As a prosecutor, when I had a case, I charged it not in the name of the victim. But in the name of “The People.” For a simple reason. In our system of justice, a harm against any one of us is a harm against all of us. I would often explain this, to console survivors of crime. To remind them no one should be made to fight alone. We are all in this together.  Every day in the courtroom, I stood proudly before a judge and said five words: “Kamala Harris, for the People.” And to be clear, my entire career, I have only had one client. The People. And so, on behalf of The People, on behalf of every American. Regardless of party, race or gender. Or the language your grandmother speaks.  On behalf of my mother and everyone who has ever set out on their own unlikely journey. On behalf of Americans like the people I grew up with. People who work hard. Chase their dreams and look out for one another. On behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth. I accept your nomination for President of the United States of America. With this election, our nation has a precious,  fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism and divisive battles of the past. A chance to chart a New Way Forward. Not as members of any one party or faction But as Americans. I know there are people of various political view watching tonight. And I want you to know: I promise to be a President for all Americans. You can always trust me to put country above party and self. To hold sacred America’s fundamental principles. From the rule of law. To free and fair elections. To the peaceful transfer of power.  I will be a President who unites us around our highest aspirations. A President who leads and listens. Who is realistic. Practical. And has common sense and always fights for the American people. From the courthouse to the White House, that has been my life’s work. As a young courtroom prosecutor in Oakland, I stood up for women and children against predators who abused them.  As Attorney General of California, I took on the Big Banks. Delivered $20 billion for middle-class families who faced foreclosure. And helped pass a homeowner Bill of Rights — one of the first of its kind.  I stood up for veterans and students being scammed by big for-profit colleges. For workers who were being cheated out of the wages they were due. For seniors facing elder abuse. I fought against cartels who traffic in guns, drugs, and human beings. Who threaten the security of our border and the safety of our communities. Those fights were not easy. And neither were the elections that put me in those offices. We were underestimated at every turn. But we never gave up. Because the future is always worth fighting for. And that’s the fight we are in right now.  A fight for America’s future. Fellow Americans, this election is not only the most important of our lives. It is one of the most important in the life of our nation. In many ways, Donald Trump is an unserious man. But the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious. Consider not only the chaos and calamity when he was in office, but also the gravity of what has happened, since he lost the last election. Donald Trump tried to throw away your votes.                                                                     When he failed, he sent an armed mob into the U.S. Capitol, where they assaulted law enforcement officers. When politicians in his own party begged him to call off the mob and send help, he did the opposite. He fanned the flames. And now, for an entirely different set of crimes, he was found guilty of fraud by a jury of everyday Americans. And separately, found liable for committing sexual abuse. And consider what he intends to do if we give him power again. Consider his explicit intent to set free the violent extremists who assaulted those law enforcement officers at the Capitol. His explicit intent to jail journalists. Political opponents. Anyone he sees as the enemy.  His explicit intent to deploy our active-duty military against our own citizens. Consider the power he will have — especially after the United States Supreme Court just ruled he would be immune from criminal prosecution.  Just imagine Donald Trump with no guardrails. How he would use the immense powers of the presidency of the United States. Not to improve your life. Not to strengthen our national security. But to serve the only client he has ever had: Himself.  And we know what a second Trump term would look like. It’s all laid out in “Project 2025.” Written by his closest advisors. And its sum total is to pull our country back into the past. But America, we are not going back. We are not going back to when Donald Trump tried to cut Social Security and Medicare. We are not going back to when he tried to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. When insurance companies could deny people with pre-existing conditions. We are not going to let him eliminate the Department of Education that funds our public schools. We are not going to let him end programs like Head Start, that provide preschool and child care. America, we are not going back. We are charting a new way forward.  Forward — to a future with a strong and growing middle class. Because we know a strong middle class has alway been critical to America’s success. And building that middle class will be a defining goal of my presidency. This is personal for me. The middle class is where I come from. My mother kept a strict budget. We lived within our means. Yet, we wanted for little. And she expected us to make the most of the opportunities that were available to us. And to be grateful for them. Because opportunity is not available to everyone. That’s why we will create what I call an Opportunity economy. An Opportunity economy where everyone has a chance to compete and a chance to succeed. Whether you live in a rural area, small town, or big city. As President, I will bring together: Labor and workers, small business owners and entrepreneurs and American companies to create jobs. Grow our economy. And lower the cost of everyday needs. Like health care, housing and groceries. We will provide access to capital for small business owners, entrepreneurs and founders. We will end America’s housing shortage and protect Social Security and Medicare. Compare that to Donald Trump. He doesn’t actually fight for the middle class. Instead, he fights for himself and his billionaire friends. He will give them another round of tax breaks that will add $5 trillion to the national debt. All while, he intends to enact what, in effect, is a national sales tax — call it, a Trump tax — that would raise prices on middle-class families by almost $4,000 a year.  Well, instead of a Trump tax hike, we will pass a middle class tax cut that will benefit more than 100 million Americans. Friends, I believe America cannot truly be prosperous unless Americans are fully able to make their own decisions about their own lives. Especially on matters of heart and home. But tonight, too many women iin America are not able to make those decisions. Let’s be clear about how we got here: Donald Trump hand-picked members of the United States Supreme Court to take away reproductive freedom. And now he brags about it. His words: Quote – “I did it, and I’m proud to have done it.” End quote. Over the past two years, I have traveled across our country. And women have told me their stories. Husbands and fathers have shared theirs. Stories of women miscarrying in a parking lot, getting sepsis, losing the ability to ever have children again, all because doctors are afraid of going to jail for caring for their patients. Couples just trying to grow their family, cut off in the middle of IVF treatments. Children who have survived sexual assault, potentially forced to carry the pregnancy to term. This is what is happening in our country. Because of Donald Trump. And understand he is not done. The freedom to live safe from gun violence — in our schools, communities and places of worship. The freedom to love who you love openly and with pride. The freedom to breathe clean air, drink clean water and live free from the pollution that fuels the climate crisis. And the freedom that unlocks all the others: The freedom to vote. Because the people of Israel must never again face the horror that the terrorist organization Hamas caused on October 7th. Including unspeakable sexual violence and the massacre of young people at a music festival. At the same time, what has happened in Gaza over the past 10 months is devastating. So many innocent lives lost. Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety, over and over again. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking. President Biden and I are working to end this war such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination. And know this: I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and our interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists. And I will not cozy up to tyrants and dictators like Kim-Jong-Un, who are rooting for Trump because they know he is easy to manipulate with flattery and favors. They know Trump won’t hold autocrats accountable — because he wants to be an autocrat. As President, I will never waver in defense of America’s security and ideals. Because, in the enduring struggle between democracy and tyranny, I know where I stand — and where the United States of America belongs.
