Ghost (2019)
- View history

Ghost is a 2019 Indian horror thriller film written and directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Vashu Bhagnani Production. The film bankrolled by Loneranger Productions, features Sanaya Irani and Shivam Bhaargava in the lead roles. The story of the film follows Karan Khanna (played by Bhaargava), a politician of Indian origin in the United Kingdom, who is accused of killing his wife. He tells his lawyer that a spirit committed the murder and should be tried. Principal photography commenced in November 2018 in London. It was released on 18 October 2019.
The film starts with a girl named Barkha Khanna (Gayathiri Iyer), supposedly killed by a vengeful ghost in her room which is later noticed by her husband, Karan Khanna, a political figure from Britain. The Metropolitan Police force subsequently arrest him accusing him of killing his wife. Meanwhile, Simran (Sanaya Irani), a lawyer having own stress related issues and use morphine and is going through an emotional time as her father recently passed away and her boyfriend (a judge) too broke up with her. Simran after the reluctance of Karan's campaign manager Bob agrees to take the case. After getting him out on bail, she learns that Karan and Barkha were not a happy couple and Karan on Valentine's Day saw someone sending a locket to Barkha . Karan suspected that his wife is having an affair and himself started an affair. However, his wife was killed one night, and CCTV footage shows Karan entering his apartment at 2am and leaving at 4am (which is the time of death of his wife) and again entering the apartment at 6am and all the evidence is pointing against him. But he claims that he spent that night at Bob's apartment as he was not able to drive.
Meanwhile, Bob notices something and departs for a mental institute in Leeds. He calls Karan, telling him that he knows who's spirit is doing all these but before he could tell who is behind all these, Bob himself is killed by that ghost who had previously killed Barkha. After more investigation Simran found that Karan was with a girl on the night his wife died but that girl was missing in police report. After consulting to a demonologist it was revealed that that girl was possessed and Karan was also possessed and being under possession he actually killed Barkha and that's why he didn't remember that night very much. Further it was revealed that Barkha was in a lesbian relationship with a girl but after instead married Karan for fame and money.
When that girl blackmailed Barkha to tell the truth or bare the consequences, she was taken to the mental institute. There she met Simran's father (Vikram Bhatt), a doctor. That girl committed suicide so that she can take revenge on those three after becoming ghost. She gave a locket previously to Simran's father and told him to deliver it to Barkha after her death. It was also revealed that the locket had all the power. Later that missing girl was found dead and her blame fell upon Karan. Simran with the help of her ex-boyfriend executed an exorsism during which the ghost took control over Karan. Simran meantime broke the locket in nick of time and thus Karan got saved and finally proving his innocence. Karan and Simran confesses their love for each other. Later Karan gave a party in his house after winning election and an inmate of that deceased girl gave him a box which unknown to Karan had that broken locket inside, indicating that the curse is not over yet.

Critic Reviews for Ghosts: Season 4
Audience reviews for ghosts: season 4.
Every season of this show is 5 Stars!!! I love the cast and the comedy. My husband and I laugh so much when we see the BBC Ghost!!! I wish it would never end!!! Maybe someday they would consider bringing it back for Christmas specials or holiday specials. If you haven't laughed for a while....this is the perfect show for you!

It may not be 5 stars to everyone else but I really enjoyed it!
All of the series are fabulous. I love the premise, the jokes, the emotion. It's one of my favourite series of recent times. I could watch it over and over! The writing is perfect and so is the acting. I've just introduced my 19 year old daughter to it and she loves it too.
I love the BBC version of Ghosts!! I hope to see a fourth season, will be very disappointed if there isn't one.
Absolutely great, characters are well suited to the actors. Funny with heart, you care about the characters.
This show is hilarious. It is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately I live in America and I am forced to watch the American version, which is awful! I am not allowed to watch season 4. So I guess this is a bad review. I wish they would cancel the American version so I can watch season 4 of the British version here in the United States.
This series and it's American cover are both superb. I prefer BBC's version but buth are really fun and so well written.
Can't wait for season 5. Hopefully there are more seasons to come!
Beautifully made series 4. More character storylines and depths explored which i really liked.
I love this show and its American counterpart.

Early Life and Career
Born in Manchester, Simon Riley joined the Special Air Service and spent the majority of his career serving numerous short-term deployments and executing covert assignments in classified locations. He became an expert in clandestine tradecraft, focused on sabotage, ambushes, and infiltrations into denied areas and hazardous environments. Ghost concealed his identity under a hallmark skull figured mask to maintain anonymity in the field. [3]
At one point, Ghost worked in the same unit as Mace . [4]

Task Force 141
Following the death of General Roman Barkov , Ghost was recruited by Captain John Price in the newly formed Task Force 141 where he became a commanding officer.
War in Verdansk
Following the invasion of Verdansk by Al-Qatala on March 3rd, 2020, Riley was deployed in the city to assist the Armistice initiative against the terrorist organization supplied by Victor Zakhaev . During one of Armistice's operations, Ghost helped the Arm-4 team infiltrating the occupied Verdansk airport to retrieve a nuclear core.
When Al-Qatala released toxic gas within Verdansk , Ghost discovered a chaotic situation where the operators of Armistice have turned against themselves and began targeting each other. He soon requested Price to send him reinforcements he could trust. Riley managed to escape the city and was deployed to a classified location where Price informed him that Zakhaev's plan worked, with the Armistice now officially disbanded. Ghost was assisted during this operation by Alex Keller , who was sent by Price.
In December 2020, Ghost assisted Price in Verdansk to stop Zakhaev from launching the missile attack onto Verdansk. Ghost, along with Alex, Gaz, Price, Nikolai and Farah Karim communicate with Johnny "Soap" MacTavish and assist him "half a few clicks off of Verdansk 's coast".
Assassination of Ghorbrani
In July of 2022, Ghost was deployed on a strike mission in the mountain desert terrain of Al Mazrah under the orders of both Laswell and General Shepherd to make visual contact on General Ghorbrani , Commander of Quds Force , Iranian Special Forces, in order to eliminate him as a potential threat while the latter was present for an arms deal with Russian Forces. Ghost confirmed the General's presence and the green light was given to Philip Graves , Commander and CEO of Shadow Company , to launch a mobile ballistic cruise missile that completely obliterated the site of the arms deal, killing everyone including Ghorbrani which Ghost then later confirmed.
Hunt for Hassan and Stolen Missiles
Several months after Ghorbrani’s death, Major Hassan Zyani , Ghorbrani’s second in command, vowed vengeance against the United States and was reported to conduct secretively activities in Al Mazrah. Ghost along with Soap and Marine Special Operations Unit were dispatched to capture or kill Hassan . After fighting through a resistance from Al-Qatala who were supposedly there to protect Hassan were in fact protecting a cargo which turned out to be an American made ballistic cruise missile. Shepherd ordered Ghost and the team to destroy the missile before evacuating from Al-Mazrah.
Ghost and Soap were later sent to Las Almas to meet up with Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas and Sergeant Major Rodolfo Parra to hunt for Hassan whom they believed is being harbored and protected by the Las Almas Cartel with corrupt elements of the Mexican Army under the control of El Sin Nombre , leader of the Las Almas Cartel.
After successfully capturing Hassan from the Cartel and Mexican military with the help from Graves and the support of Shadow Company’s AC-130 gunship, they brought Hassan in the desert to interrogate him about the whereabouts of the missiles. Hassan proved difficult to handle and were ordered to release him as his detainment was illegal.
A few days later, Ghost along with Soap, Vargas and Graves were conducting over watch on a mansion belonging to one of El Sin Nombre’s lieutenant, Diego Salgado . After much discussion about getting to the cartel leader, Soap volunteered on a risky mission to infiltrate the compound with Vargas in disguised as one of the bodyguards with Ghost providing sniper overwatch and Graves on standby to snatch and grab. After they managed to capture the cartel leader who turned out to be Valeria Garza, a former member of Vargas unit, they interrogated her about the whereabouts of Hassan and the missiles, and she would offer up the information in exchange for a deal of securing her release and her cartel operation to be left undisturbed.
Through the interrogation of Garza, Ghost along with 141, Los Vaqueros and Shadow Company participated in a raid on an oil rig located in the Gulf of Mexico where they located and destroyed the second missile before it had the chance to launch.
Betrayal of Shadow Company and Shepherd
As the team got back, they come to find out that Graves with the support from Shepherd had taken over the Fuerzas Especiales facility and turned on them with Vargas being captured, forcing Ghost and Soap to escape to the city and fend off any Shadow operatives hunting them before regrouping at Vargas safe house where they met up with Rodolfo and formulate a plan to infiltrate an abandoned prison which was being used by Shadow Company as a Black Site Compound to free Vargas and Vaqueros operatives currently being held captive before escaping with help from Price and Gaz .
Later, Laswell finds out that Shepherd and Graves were trying to cover up their illegal activity that had occurred months earlier where Shadow Company lost possession of the missiles when they were transporting it to allies fighting Russia to a company of Russian mercenaries who later gave them to Hassan, so he could exact revenge on the United States.
Ghost was present when Task Force 141 and Los Vaqueros formed JTF-Ghost Team . He then briefly took his mask off before donning a ghost mask with everyone before venturing off to retake the Fuerzas Especiales facility, where they took out Graves and Shadow Company. They then questioned Garza again, which she revealed that Hassan and the last missile were located in Chicago .
Death of Hassan and Missile Threat Eliminated
As Task Force 141 with a squad of Marine Raiders moves in on Hassan with the latter having Al-Qatala protection, Ghost provided overwatch from another building. The team then rushed to take the controls after Hassan had launched the missile which was heading towards Washington, D.C. and Soap managed to disarm it with the help from Laswell. He then helps guide Soap to eliminate a few AQ soldiers and rushes on time to save Soap by sniping Hassan before the latter had the chance to throw him out the window.
Ghost along with Price, Gaz, Soap and Laswell were all at a bar where they discussed about the events that followed after their mission in Chicago. Laswell then hands them a picture of an individual whom Price recognized as Vladimir Makarov .

Papa Emeritus IV

Papa IV is notable for being the first (and currently only) Papa to be frontman for more than one studio album, starting with Prequelle and currently with IMPERA. As such, his appearances have changed a considerable amount between the two cycles.
Prequelle Cycle (2018 - 2020)

Cardinal Copia
Like the Papas before him, Cardinal Copia is played by Tobias Forge wearing a custom-made mask by Jerry Constantine. Some fans have speculated that his mask in particular is inspired by the face of late American actor Vincent Price due to their similarities, although Tobias himself has said Copia is a "mix of Dracula and Jacques Clouseau " [1] [2] [3] .

Copia's formerly side-swept hair
His mask has medium-length dark brown hair, usually combed back (although initially combed to the side) and prominent sideburns, alongside a pencil mustache. His first official appearance featured him in a black Cardinal outfit with an accompanying hat. His face paint, unlike previous frontmen of the band, was minimal, only covering his eyes. This denoted his junior status and that he was yet to "deserve his skull paint" [4] . He has also been stated as being "the more limber of all of [the Papas]" [5] .
Copia has several outfits: He has a cassock and accompanying biretta that comes in both black and red variants, a black and red dressed down outfit, and a similar white tuxedo that comes with a hat. Occasionally, he wears a cape alongside his black dressed down outfit. Once anointed Papa Emeritus IV, his appearance changed yet again. His minimal facepaint is now gone in place of the more extensive and "traditional" skull facepaint of the Papas before him, and he has now earned a new blue chasuble and mitre, along with a black cope (an ornamented liturgical cape). All his outfits so far have been designed by B. Åkerlund and produced by Majesty Black .
IMPERA Cycle (2020 - Present)
Papa post surgery
In the chapter Tomb It May Concern, Papa IV is presented with a brand new mask made by Andrew Freeman, alongside with Sister Imperator who is played by a new actor. This drastic change in appearance for both characters is explained in-universe as a "two-for-one" plastic surgery. Amongst the changes in facial structure, Papa's mustache and sideburns are noticeably gone, and his temples have grayed.
During the Pre-Imperatour, he revealed a brand new set of clothes including but not limited to: rat-bitten pants, a blue sequin jacket with a prominent "Fuck You" patch, a Victorian and steampunk inspired military outfit, a ceremonial gown and cornette, and a vest adorned with the new Grucifix logo. In the Imperatour, he continues using the aforementioned clothing alongside his blue chasuble.
Personality
As of current, Papa Emeritus IV is the most fleshed out Papa in the Ghost universe with the most comprehensive observable personality, which itself might be due to him being a part of a bigger, more defined storyline within the band's lore . While previous Papas had personalities and backstories only hinted at in interviews and as throw-away lines during live shows, Papa IV's character is shown front and center in both live shows and in the mini webseries that the band first released at the beginning of the Prequelle cycle.
Cardinal Copia was first teased in January 2018, when Ghost's official Instagram page uploaded a video of an unseen man (now known to be Cardinal Copia) playing an 8-track of Ceremony and Devotion . [6] He was officially introduced in April that same year in the second Prequelle chapter, The Cardinal , in which he is anointed the new frontman of the band by Papa Nihil. [7] His first live performance was a private acoustic show the same evening in Chicago. [8]
On March 3, 2020, in the last show of the Pale Tour Named Death, Cardinal Copia was anointed Papa Emeritus IV. [9]
He recently went on tour alongside Volbeat , from January 25 to March 3, across the U.S. Currently, he is touring with the rest of the band in the Imperatour , supporting their new album IMPERA that was released on March 11, 2022.

A sign of what to come...
- Papa IV has the most extensive wardrobe of any Papa to date.
- Evaporated milk is currently Papa IV's best-loved drink at this moment in time.
- Tobias has stated that he was initially not fond of Copia's character [10] [11] , but grew to like him over time [12] [13] .
- Papa IV prefers that the socks stay on [14] .
- According to Sister Imperator, Papa IV has the second most Employee of the Month awards.
- The character of Cardinal Copia has been foreshadowed as far back as 2016. In the music video for Square Hammer , there is a brief shot of a Northern Cardinal perching atop a tombstone--the red bird, of course, symbolizing the Cardinal.
- The song that played during Papa IV's coronation is "Arrival" by ABBA .
- He is the first character Tobias Forge has played since his identity was revealed.

- Although based on the original BBC version of the series and similar in plot and story arcs, the characters have been Americanized to reflect the story of the house: in the British version, Isaac is a Second World War captain (also a closeted gay man, who remains unnamed; the Captain in the British series is far more serious and a bit more tragic, much of the comedy coming from his strict military ways and his obsession for rank, while Isaac is more flamboyant and sarcastic); Trevor (the trouserless ghost) is a disgraced MP instead of a Wall Street broker (confirmed in the BBC series to have died while having sex, while Trevor's death is from an accidental drug overdose); and Thor the Viking is a caveman. Two original characters, Flower the Hippie and Alberta the jazz singer, replace Kitty, a naïve Georgian woman (who, as Flower, is always absent-minded, though Flower's is more an effect of drugs) and Thomas, a failed romantic poet who, like Alberta, constantly exaggerates his own importance and significance, though Alberta's talent is genuine but the British character's is not). Some of the characters' traits were given to others: Trevor's crush on Sam was originally from the romantic poet, while Sassapis' wit and sarcasm were originally the Caveman's. Hetty, the lady of the house, and Pete, the friendly scout leader, remain relatively the same. Crash, the decapitated ghost (a Tudor nobleman in the BBC version), shares the original's recurring joke of constantly losing his head.

- View history
Ghostwriter is an American-Canadian family's mystery fantasy series and is an Apple TV+ original, therefore, making it exclusive to the service. It premiered on November 1, 2019, along with the service. It is a revival of the 1992-1995 PBS series but the show makes no connection to the other except for the division of story arcs per 2/3 episodes.
Season one and two focus on a group of friends ( Ruben Reyna , the new kid in the city; Chevon Redmond , an intelligent girl; Curtis Palmer-Moreno , the coolest basketball player in the school; Donna Palmer-Moreno , Curtis's curious little sister who is in his shadow) who interact with the Ghostwriter through written messages, and fictional characters out of books. They are the only ones that can see the characters and they learn life lessons along the way.
Season three has a new group of friends ( Samir Yousef , a close friend to the Reynas; Nia Barnes , the daughter of the university's president; Charli Allen , an inspiring magician) whom are given a new Ghostwriter and the old premise of the show is continued.
The first season has premiered on November 1, 2019, with the service and the final six episodes have premiered on May 1, 2020. The second season has premiered on October 9, 2020, with its final six episodes premiering on May 7, 2021. For this, the show has been known for taking long hiatuses between the seventh and eighth episodes. A spin-off was released on April 1, 2021 titled Ghostwriter: Beyond the Page . It focuses on Donna narrating on events of Season One. A third season was released in October 21, 2022. All episodes were released simultaneously.

Ghosts season 4: release date, cast, episode summaries and all you need to know
Ghosts season 4 is now available to watch in full.

Ghosts season 4 is just as wonderfully funny as the previous series and you can watch the whole series now.
Ghosts , which stars ex- Call the Midwife actress Charlotte Ritchie as a woman who can see ghosts for real, has been one of the BBC's biggest comedy hits for years and it's even spawned a Ghosts US version .
Setting up the new series, Kiell Smyth-Bynoe, who plays Mike, says: "Series four is about the guest house and trying to create the perfect B&B experience. Mike and Alison are trying to get the best reviews — that is their main goal for the series. In the first episode, they get their first customers, and we see how Mike and Alison respond in their own different ways to praise and complaints."
And of course the ghosts aren't happy? "They've only just started to accept Mike and Alison! So the idea of having even more people in the house — for Lady Button especially — is really not what the ghosts want. But Lady Button soon gets involved in the guests' business and has strong opinions on how they're conducting themselves in the house."
Here's everything we know about the new series including episode round-ups...
Ghosts season 4 release date
Ghosts season 4 ends on Friday, October 28 at 8.30 pm on BBC One. You can watch the whole series on BBC iPlayer .
Ghosts season 4 plot
The BBC has teased some plot details: "When we return for series 4, Button House is open for business, well, the gatehouse is. Can Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) make a success of the humble B&B or will the interfering ghosts once again scupper their plans?"
Talking about what's in store for Pat, Jim Howick says: "Pat is Pat. Part of his character is that he’s always on an even keel and is very much the sunny gel for the group. And so from a character point of view, he doesn't really get to go on many journeys. It's often the characters that are reactionary or prudish in some way and not open to change who get the huge, meandering stories, and Pat is more of a mediator in the group."
What happens in episode one of Ghosts season 4?
Titled "Happy Holiday", the episode sees Alison incredibly nervous as their guest house finally opens. Will their first guests be happy? Alison and Mike do everything in their powers to make them happy, but of course the ghosts aren't helping.
Meanwhile, the plaguers suddenly begin worshipping Thomas much to his delight at first. Plus Pat discusses with Mary how wonderful package holidays were before deciding perhaps they weren't!
What happens in episode two?
Titled "Speak as ye choose", the episode delves into Mary's past, explaining more about how she ended up being burnt as a witch. It also looks into an important friendship she had with another ghost, who helped her to become bolder in saying what she thinks.
Meanwhile, Kitty teaches The Captain the virtues of living in the moment.
Ghosts season 4 cast
Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) return as the owners of Button House. Martha Howe-Douglas plays Lady Fanny Button, who started to thaw somewhat in series 3 and even turned detective at one point!
While Mathew Baynton returns as Thomas Thorne, who briefly switched his affections away from Alison in the most recent series.
Jim Howick plays loveable Pat Butcher, while Ben Willbond is back as the Captain, who likes to keep everything in military order.
Plus there's Katy Wix as Mary, Laurence Rickard as Robin/Humphrey’s Head, Simon Farnaby as MP Julian Fawcett, and Lolly Adefope as Kitty.
Is there a trailer?
Yes! And it looks fab.

Ghosts: Fact or Fiction?
The notion of ghosts has been long debated, whether it’s the existence of Casper, Anne Boleyn’s lost spirit lurking, or your neighbor’s grandma visiting from the afterlife. Ghosts are remnants of the bodies of people that have died and are commonly discussed in folklore. Apparitions can range from a simple strange presence to the aura of a living being. Roughly half of all Americans believe in ghosts or life after death according to a website called Ghosts and Gravestones. Many within the population of believers have shared perceived experiences of the phenomenon, or share a strong belief life after death. In addition, many believers are also religious: numerous religions discuss life after death in one form or another. Hinduism and Buddhism believe in reincarnation, and Christianity, Islam, and Judaism believe that the soul is eternal and will continue to exist after death.
People believe in this idea because no one knows what happens after death and wants to believe that there is some form of life, and that maybe humans are able to visit their loved ones after passing on. According to the previously mentioned website, Ghosts and Gravestones,
“We seek explanations for what’s happening around us. It’s just the way the human brain is wired; we need to know why things occur or what’s causing something. And when it comes to inexplicable, mysterious happenings, the only logical explanation is often the presence of something supernatural.”
Information regarding ghosts can be found all over the Internet and on television. There are websites substantiating this belief, but most are reiterating that the idea is false.
The notion of ghosts has been around for thousands of years. One of the only websites I found on the origination of ghosts is Wikipedia, which says that stories of ghosts originated in early Mesopotamia and ancient Greece. Furthermore, ghosts were written into Homer’s the Odyssey and Iliad. In the Bible, Jesus was at first believed to be a ghost before convincing his followers that he rose from the dead. Furthermore, ghost stories circulated during the Middle Ages and during the Renaissance, all throughout history until today. More people believe in ghosts in the modern day than they did in the past, with more and more people believing each year, along with the amount of evidence against ghosts increasing over time.
Ghosts are considered extraordinary because the idea of them is unable to be authenticated by science. There is no replicable experiment known that can validate a ghost’s presence; people coming back after death as spirits defies all scientific laws of nature. Besides hope, the belief of ghosts continues to live on through oral stories that are passed on from person to person. Those in favor of the existence of ghost are mostly believers because they cannot attribute their experiences to normal circumstances. The belief is solely built on personal experience with the help of religious beliefs (life after death, reincarnation, etc.) to explain what happens in the afterlife. According to HowStuffWorks, “the evidence for ghosts is all around us, but only living beings with a certain sensitivity can feel their presence.” In addition, the website states that technology is not yet advanced enough to create physical proof. According to some quantum physicists, “we still do not fully understand the interaction of the human mind and external matter at the quantum level” (HowStuffWorks). Moreover, ghosts may not be dead humans but merely humans from other points in time.
On the other hand, those against the premise of ghosts are more backed by science than those in favor. Benjamin Radford, Live Science Contributor, claims that the stories of ghosts switch between being able to walk through walls but still be able to move them, and that these contradicting ideas go against the laws of physics. Furthermore, he claims that if these spirits were truly lost and had unfinished business, then mediums would be able to help them in a multitude of ways (solve their murders, identify killers). Those who claim to have evidence like ghost hunters use pseudoscience to demonstrate their claims: electromagnetic field meters, cameras, thermometers, and other equipment are used to detect any changes in energy. The change in energy is automatically assumed to be the presence of a supernatural being. Jumping to the conclusion that any change in the atmosphere is due to paranormal causes is logically incorrect; people misinterpret the results due to confirmation bias, only looking for evidence that strengthens their beliefs in ghosts.
All in all, the notion of ghosts is one that has originated and survived over a long period of time. A large percentage of the world’s population believes in ghosts in one form or another, whether it’s life after death or the eternal existence of human energy. Many of these believers claim to have personal experiences with ghosts, while others only believe because of their religion or hope. There is conflicting evidence to whether ghosts exist, as the premises backing them is controversial and up for debate. Perhaps advances in technology over time will give us a final answer or ghosts will make contact with the public themselves.

When I was young I was always told that ghosts are bad souls, and spirits and good souls. Ghosts attach themselves to bad people and people who have week souls, whereas spirits are good and their presence makes situations better and positive. Spirit it’s try to protect people that they love from ghost. Is there anyone else who believes this or is it just me?
I was never told that there was a difference in title of good or bad ghosts but it was always discussed within my family that some ghosts are nicer and some are not. I don’t know how much I still believe in ghosts but I think there are spirits and representations of human souls somehow. I’m not religious and never have been but I find it hard to believe that people die and then disappear without leaving a trace of themselves behind. It could just be me, but it makes sense that ghosts could exist especially when something notable like a murder or traumatic experience occurs.
Your comment made me wonder, that is it just our copping mechanism when we are not ready to accept that people who die just leave this dimension. I think it a way people accept their lose so that they can continue to live. If people consider souls of their relatives to be around them, it would be easier for them to move on. Do you think I am right or do you really believe in life after death?
I like how you took a very neutral stance for this post! It leaves us to look at the information you gave and make our own decisions. As someone who believes in ghosts and the supernatural I found it interesting that you found so much information stating believers are those who are looking for a way to explain weird phenomena in their lives. I have never actually had any “weird” experiences, but yet I still find myself believing. Perhaps I just want to believe there is more for us after this life because I am not religious enough to be certain one way or the other.
Hey, I read your comment and started wondering why you still believed in these supernatural phenomena’s even after reading convincing arguments about how it is untrue. I was just curious to know how your belief functions. I mean I have experienced weird things, but I still keep thinking that there have to be alternate explanations to why it might have happened.
My friends and I love watching the show Ghost Adventures with Zak Bagans. On one of the episodes of the show they used an Xbox Kinect to look at the locations of ghosts. The episode I watched had them catch on the connect figures “dancing on the stage.” While I don’t necessarily believe in all of these television ghost hunting techniques, I was just wondering if you came across anything on using the Xbox kinect to hunt ghosts?
When I first read your post I could not believe that this was actually a thing. I mean hunting ghosts with Xbox kinect, sounds like a made up story. That’s why I decided to do some digging. When I first looked this up on the net it took like milliseconds for the internet to come up with a ton of posts regarding this. As I started reading the articles one by one I realized hat this is really considered true. I was really shocked to see claims that harmless Xbox’s were used to hunt ghosts.
I have seen this episode too and at first thought it was a total joke that they were using an xbox. But i think that is some of the appeal of shows like that. they use so many different tools to try and communicate with spirits and sometimes it is really convincing. I know I have always wondered about if they are ever faking anything. On one hand I find it very hard to believe that spirits are capable of moving and throwing objects but on the other hand the amount of work they would have to do to stage things and make it look convincing is staggering and to keep it up for 14 seasons…. leaves me kinda torn on my beliefs.
I was curious reading your response. I was wondering if you continued till the 14th season, because it was really convinction or because you wanted to know how far they could stretch this belief? Just asking out of curiousity.
The belief in ghosts or some form of sentient life-after-death version of our loved ones has always seemed like a comfort mechanism to me. Much like beliefs in magic allow people to assert power over natural but frightening processes, I wonder if it is so easy for us to believe in ghosts because it allows us to feel less scared of death and the loss of the people we care about.
This is so interesting. I never really think of ghosts as an extraordinary belief, and I’m not really sure why. I definitely think that there is some version of truth to it, its hard to sign on to the belief that nothing at all happens after your loved ones pass away, and that they’ll never see you again. I own a ouija board and it does feel nice to even think you’re communicating with someone that you miss so much. However, i dont think i put much stock into the whole possession, scary ghost thing. It’s a slightly larger reach from “a loved one visiting” for me to start thinking “its a strangers ghost and its mad and trying to get me!”. I feel like I’m in a pretty average spot with that belief but let me know what you think @anyone else!
So this spring break, my boyfriend and I decided to take a little ghost tour around Ohio (in order to save money), and in doing so, we came across some wild tales surrounding “haunted” cemeteries and bridges that all seemed to vary among individual retellings. I find that this one aspect lends itself to dispelling supernatural belief because without a concrete story of the history of a supposedly haunted place, the account’s credibility is severely limited. While we did take multiple photos of different locations in order to try and get a glimpse of anything wild, we were left with nothing but plain photos, devoid of any orbs, shadows, blurs, etc. Like you mentioned, until I see some concrete evidence and have an experience of my own, I think I will stand as a nonbeliever.
Oh my god, that would have been so much fun though. I have always wanted to visit haunted places. But I always end up thinking that if the tales are really true, it would confirm a belief that I don’t want to confirm. I would rather think that these thinks don’t exist compared to being proved wrong and being scared for the rest of my life.
So, this is a super random question, but if there was one person in history or the present who you think would be most likely to come back as a ghost, who do you think it would be? For me, I TOTALLY think it would be Nicholas Cage – I mean, if he can’t steal the Declaration of Independence in life, he must do it in death! Or, if he does die (I’m still not convinced he will), I would expect it to be Morgan Freeman!
I just wanted to say I legitimately laughed out loud at this comment. Nicholas Cage would definitely be the one to come back as a ghost, if anything to continue his reign as a meme for our generation. I could also see someone like Shia LaBeouf coming back to encourage us to “DO IT”.
I would say Hitler, I know this might sound a bit random. But according to where I come from, souls come back as ghosts because they could not achieve what they were supposed to. Hitler took his own life (suicide), which means it wasn’t his time to die yet and he challenged the normal order of things. He was not successful with his motives, therefore his ghost would come back to do the needful.
I think one interesting fact about the ghost (or devil) is that many people claimed they have seen a ghost (or devil), it is never the same when they depicting the appearance, but when they were asked to describe the look of the god, they all agree what was him looked like…
I think the ghost is a version of the dead people. Nobody knows where we will go after death, so they try to believe that the ghost exist and they can still company with their family even after they died. I also always think if my ancestors become the ghost and they are watching their grandson. Some people believe after death, the good people will go to heaven, and they punish these evil people to let them stay on the earth. Whatever what happens after death, I believe there must be some places can let these spirit stay.
The idea of ghosts is one that speaks to the human desire to know what can’t necessarily be fully known. According to Terror Management Theory, the ultimate fate everyone will have to face one day is death, and the human psyche tries to manage this terror. And in accordance to this theory, the belief in ghosts is an excellent way to lessen the fear of an eternal loss of consciousness.
Hello! This was a great choice for your blog post! I think most people have some idea if they believe in ghosts or not. I think the belief in ghosts vary person to person. Sometimes people may think of them literally like in horror movies and think there loved ones souls still linger around. I think this is an interesting idea to choose because this is something we still lack evidence on as in science. Where do people go where there gone? Do we know what matter or place they go to? There is so much to be known and its really cool to take a step back and look at what we do know. Personally I dont think ghosts are like they appear in movies, like Casper, but it would be interesting and cool to find out the when people leave earth, they still leave a part of themselves or look over loved ones!
One thing I found really interesting in your article is how people believe in ghost would misinterpret the evidence that not equally support their belief. Confirmation bias is so general that we could see it in every day life. But I think the concept of ghost may also have some culture and literature meaning. Just like the fear of death and the trauma of family member’s death. This is really a complicated belief that combine bias in many aspects.
I find it how interesting in the post, you mentioned how ghost might have unfinished business or rather this is why people thing that ghosts are around. However, my family described ghosts as spirits which was different because spirits were good. Essentially, spirits were only sent down to protect. However, I find it interesting how everyone has their own interpretation of what ghosts are. Overall, I think that people who believe in ghosts use it more as a comfort so they can feel like there is something after death and this is why the fall under confirmation bias so much.
Do I believe in ghosts? You better believe it! My mom lost her sister to some sort of cardiac complication at the age of 22, and ever since then my mother has felt/seen/dreamed her presence many times. This is her recollection, but there are other people around the world who visualize ghosts much differently. I like how someone above mentioned the difference between ghosts and spirits and the idea that one is good and one is deemed culturally bad. Some people I know use “luck” as a way to explain a ghost’s presence. Other’s use close calls, or times of overcoming hardship to explain the presence of ghosts/spirits. Overall though, I believe that the belief in ghosts/spirits is maintained only in a space where it is all together accepted. For example, The Holy Ghost is perceived by some of the population to be a thriving spirit that is there for the purposes of guidance and care. But to an Atheist or a non-religious individual/group of people, The Holy Ghost might be interpreted as a sham or a hoax. This is a religious example, but it still provides support for the fact that if there is no fostering of the idea of ghosts in ones local society, then there is overall subtle consequences (however minor) linked with the belief. This post was really enjoyable to read!
I loved reading your blog post. I am someone who does not want to believe in ghosts, but at the same time, when I am in creepy situations or home alone and hear strange noises, I first think “intruder?” and then “ghost?”. I will say I have had multiple strange experiences at my house where I cannot explained what happened so I resort to ghosts. When I was home alone one night, I had my dogs with me and coincidentally they looked at the entrance to my room just as I had taken a snapchat picture to send my good night streaks and when I looked at the picture there was what looked like a “ghostly” figure standing in the door way. I didn’t want to believe it was a ghost, nonetheless I ran out screaming and called my dad.
I think people believe in ghosts because there is comfort in believing there’s life after death. I am not a fan of ghosts and the supernatural, but I know there is supposedly “scientific” proof. Like people who believe in aliens, people also claim to have experiences with ghosts. Other reasons people believe in ghosts for religious reasons or simply because they want to believe their loved ones who have passed away are still there.
Loved your post! You took a very objective side and explained both sides in a great way. Ghosts is a very fascinating belief that exists. I still do not know if I believe in ghosts and spirits or not. I think, sometimes believing in spirits gives people a feeling of hope. It is scary to think of life after death, but believing that there is something after life makes it a little less of a scary thing.
