Yes, you can rent famous television and movie cars. The question is: What television and movie cars are you most interested in? Our current lineup includes the following available for rent:

• Batman:  You can rent the 1966 Batmobile used in the Adam West television series. Very few legitimate Batmobiles exist in the world, and they are extremely valuable. For example, the first-ever Batmobile recently sold for $4.6 million.

• James Bond:  Rent the car used by the world’s most famous spy. This Jaguar was used as a stunt car in the Bond film “Die Another Day,” posing as 007’s Aston Martin Vanquish. When the movie was filmed in the early 2000s, Ford owned both Jaguar and Aston Martin, and imposter Vanquishes were built on both Jaguar and Mustang chassis complete with fiberglass bodies.

• Speed Racer:  Back in the 1980s, Chevrolet built a number of Mach 5s that were inspired by the “Speed Racer” cartoon. Chevy built the replicas to raise awareness for child safety. They were prohibitively expensive to manufacture, though, so only a handful actually moved into production. We offer one of those replicas for rent.

• Knight Rider: You can rent a 1983 Pontiac that’s been customized to look and sound like KITT , the talking car from the hit show “Knight Rider.” Not only do both the interior and exterior look exactly like the car used on the show, but a hidden stereo system also plays KITT’s voice as needed.

• Ghostbusters:  The “Ghostbuster” films of the 1980s made the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor (known as Ecto-1 in the films) famous. You can rent a Ghostbusters-style Miller-Meteor for your own use, complete with the iconic fins. This Cadillac is even signed by two actors from the film — Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson.

• Back to the Future:  Doc Brown converted a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 into a time machine in the “Back to the Future” movies from the 1980s, and Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) traveled both into the past and into the future using it. You can rent a fully customized and restored DMC-12 that looks identical to the time machine from the films.

• Transformers:  The Bumblebee car from “Transformers” is actually a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro. You can rent one of the three Camaros used in the film. Each of the three cars used in the film was painted yellow and then “distressed” in the exact same way to appear more beaten up.

• Scooby-Doo:  Is there a more iconic cartoon car than the "Scooby-Doo" Mystery Machine? You can rent the 1976 GMC Mystery Machine used in the 2002 live-action film version of the cartoon. This is the car that allowed Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Velma and Daphne to solve mysteries and get around in style.

• Miami Vice:  Only two 1976 Ferrari Daytona Spyders were used on the television series “Miami Vice.” One of them is held by a private collector, but the other you can rent from our inventory. This Spyder was mostly used for scenes that included driving or stunts. Because it was often used for stunts, this Ferrari includes camera rigging, stunt-friendly brakes and skid plates.

• Blues Brothers:  Rent a 1975 Dodge Bluesmobile that looks exactly like Jake and Elwood’s car from “The Blues Brothers.” This is a real California Highway Patrol car that’s been converted and customized, and the roof-mounted loud speaker really works — just like in the movie.

• The Fast and the Furious:  You can rent the actual 1970 Dodge Charger used on the screen by Vin Diesel when you rent from our inventory. “The Fast and the Furious” made this make and model famous, and this particular one was used only for close-ups in the film. 

• Dukes of Hazzard:  Rent one of the few General Lees to survive the production of “The Dukes of Hazzard.” This particular General Lee is a 1969 Dodge Charger that was used while the television series was produced on-location in Georgia rather than in California. This General Lee has never required restoration, and it still exists in its authentic, original condition.

• Beverly Hillbillies:  During the opening credits of the television series “Beverly Hillbillies,” the Clampetts load up in their 1921 Oldsmobile to move to Southern California. You can rent the actual truck used in the 1993 Beverly Hillbillies film.

There’s Probably a Ghostbusters Car For Rent In Your Town

Ecto-1 is EVERYWHERE.

When it comes to iconic movie cars, Ghostbusters ‘ Ecto-1 is right up there with Doc Brown’s Delorean, the Batmobile, the Mystery Machine, and James Bond ‘s Aston Martin. And if you are a die-hard fan of the franchise, you can almost certainly rent a replica of the vehicle pretty much anywhere in the United States. Here’s how.

Sites like Cars As Rentals and Drive Share offer you the chance to rent the Ecto-1 and other legendary cars from movies and TV shows for a day (typically for a few hundred bucks, though prices do vary). If you’re worried about the car looking like a lemon, Cars As Rentals’ vehicle has been featured on several TV shows, including Screen Machines and Cars That Rock. It’s even been autographed by Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Ray Parker Jr., Ivan Reitman and his son Jason (who is directing the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife ).

There are tons of these types of operations all around the country, so if you want the Ecto-1 at your party or event, you can almost certainly make that happen regardless of location.

If you’re a true Ghostbusters fanatic and just renting the Ecto-1 isn’t good enough for you, you could also go the route of Barrie J. Clark, who managed to build his own version of the car after making his own DIY Ghostbusters costume five years ago. The 56-year-old went all-out, as his replica includes a full-size Proton Pack, a full-size head of Dana Barrett’s “Zuul,” and a projector inside that makes it look like ghosts are spinning around the inside of the car.

But if that is outside of your budget, you can always just hire a Ghostbuster to come to a birthday or holiday party you’re hosting. They only cost about $200 to be at an event for up to an hour and, at the very least, they can make sure your party is free of any ghouls or spirits .

Turo now renting out a DeLorean, Mystery Machine, and Ghostbusters ECTO-1

This Halloween, someone at Turo found a perfect way to bring some eyeballs to their peer-to-peer car sharing platform, via pop culture references. They teamed up with owners of a Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, a Ghostbusters Ecto-1, and a DMC DeLorean*, and made them all available for rent. This might be the best Halloween costume accessory idea ever conceived of by a car sharing organization in the history of the world.

Mystery Machine

The Mystery Machine is a 2001 Dodge Caravan. It has 7 seats, 3 doors, and has a Scooby Doo paint job on its exterior. The middle captain chairs can rotate 180 degrees, and there's a fully capable rear bench that'll fold down into a full size bed (with sheets included). This machine also has Zombie Lights (green glow under the car) as well as Sasquatch Lights (flashers). The steering wheel horn plays "ROOBY ROOBY ROO!"

This vehicle can be rented from Redwood City, California for $94 a day. It's been rented a bunch of times already, as evidenced by the 20+ positive 5-star ratings with wildly appreciative feedback.

*Time Machine... sorta

This is an original DeLorean DMC-12 – clean, as it were. Where it COULD be tricked out with gear from Back to the Future, it's actually just a really, really good condition original DeLorean. Reviewers of this vehicle seem fairly pumped up to have found it rolling in to their Back to the Future birthday parties, regardless of its lack of flux capacitor.

This machine is available for rent in Marina del Rey, California. People pay a cool $224 PER DAY to rent this vehicle – imagine that! What's even more shocking is the fact that this vehicle's been rented over 70 times!

Ghostbusters Car

The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 looks and feels like the original hearse used by the on-call crew for ghost busting in NYC. It has lights, sirens, and a PA system, per the original. It also has the ability to play the original Ghostbusters theme song by Ray Park over said PA system, if you do so choose.

This Cadillac exists in Ormond Beach, Florida , and will roll for approximately $292 per day. It's not yet been rented by anyone who's left a review just yet... probably because it's in Florida.

Ghostbusters ECTO-1 Tribute Car Comes to Life at Charlotte Motor Speedway's Pennzoil AutoFair

Charge up your proton pack, calibrate the PKE meter and empty all traps into the containment unit, because the April 4-7 Pennzoil AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway will celebrate all things "Ghostbusters" with a visit from an "Ectomobile" spirit transport replica.

When the movie "Ghostbusters" premiered in 1984, it became the highest-grossing film of the year and made a star out of a white-and-red 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance/hearse. The Caddy, known as ECTO-1 or the Ectomobile, was loaded with all manner of spirit-hunting equipment and sported the now-famous "no ghosts" emblem on each front door. A 1989 sequel, "Ghostbusters II," featured an updated ECTO-1a built on a different 1959 Cadillac, while the 2016 reboot, "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call," starred a white-and-pink ECTO-1 built on a 1984 Cadillac.

In the ensuing 35 years, "Ghostbusters" fans from all over the world have been creating their own versions of the Ectomobile. One of the finest examples of an ECTO-1 tribute car belongs to Barrie J. Clark of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Clark and his team spent more than 1,200 hours restoring a 1974 Cadillac Miller-Meteor hearse and outfitting it with a monstrously large 472ci V-8 (for those urgent exorcisms). Clark's ECTO-1, which spends most of its time at charity events, children's hospitals, birthday parties, and parades, is fully equipped with a custom ectoplasm containment system, ecto goggles, and loudspeakers that play the otherworldly warning siren from the first movie. The roof rack is stacked high with wraith-wrangling apparatus, most of which was handmade by Clark's crew.

Clark is a member of the Ghostbusters of North Carolina organization, and the ECTO-1 tribute car acts as a centerpiece for many of the group's public activities. It can often be seen on the streets of Charlotte and surrounding areas, looking for wayward spirits.

During all four days of the April 4-7 Pennzoil AutoFair, the Ghostbusters tribute car will share exhibit space with a motorized Rocket Ship Car carnival ride, a 60th anniversary display of Chevrolet's El Caminos, a collection of Bonneville Salt Flats racers, and a handful of Ridler Award-winning custom machines.

Ghostbusters Ectomobile ECTO-1

Probably one of the most famous and identifiable movie cars of all time is ECTO-1 (Ectomobile). ECTO-1 is a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Futura (limousine style windows) Duplex (hearse / ambulance combination) used in the 1984 film Ghostbusters and other Ghostbusters fiction.

In the movie, the vehicle is purchased by Dr. Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) for the relatively high price of $4800 in a poor state of repair. In Stantz’ own words, it needed “suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, linings, steering box, transmission, rear-end, new rings, mufflers, and a little wiring…”. It first appears as a black and primered ambulance.

After the necessary refurbishing, it was used to carry the team’s ghost-capturing equipment, as well as transporting the Ghostbusters throughout New York City. Its features include a modified gurney that rolls out from the back door, holds the proton packs, and makes it easier to retrieve them.

In addition to the blue emergency lighting, the ECTO-1 also received it’s own unique siren. There are several other gadgets mounted to the side and roof of the car that the movie never identifies or explains their purpose.

• EMF Scrubbers

In a later interview after ECTO-1 was restored, Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Ray Stantz ) said that “Dr. Spengler (Harold Ramis) miniaturized this [equipment] for mobile purposes”.

Even the inside of ECTO-1 is full of electronic gadgets that aren’t ever seen in the movie.

ECTO-1 makes an appearance at the beginning of Ghostbusters II (1989). It appears to be in bad shape leaving a trail of exhaust smoke and backfiring. Later the car re-appears as a newer modified version with even more lights and gadgets. That vehicle is ECTO-1A, which I’ll feature later.

ECTO-1 RESTORED:

In 2009 ECTO-1 was sent to Cinema Vehicle Services where it was restored for the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game . Dan Aykroyd went and saw the vehicle when it was finished, and was amazed at how good it looked (see the video below). Prior to that, the car had been deteriorating next to ECTO-1A in the Universal Studios back lot (right side of photo below). ECTO-1 now can be found parked outside of the Ghost Corps offices at the Sony lot along with the ECTO-1 from the 2016 film Ghostbusters: Answer The Call.

Note: ECTO-1A was suppose to be restored at the same time, but the decision was made to finish ECTO-1, and place ECTO-1A in storage. ECTO-1A was finally brought out of storage and converted to an ECTO-1 to film Ghostbuster After Life in 2019. It will be exciting to see it back on the big screen.

EIGHT ECTO-1 FACTS:

1) ECTO-1 is a Miller-Meteor Futura Ambulance/Hearse Combination mounted on a 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood Professional Chassis.

2) The Miller-Meteor production run was very limited. Only about 400 vehicles were made. It’s powered by a 320 HP 6.3L V8.

3) The original ECTO-1 started out as a gold ambulance before being converted in to ECTO-1. While filming Ghostbusters II , ECTO-1 was backfiring and spewing smoke. This was not a special effect. The car was truly in poor mechanical condition. It finally “died” on the Brooklyn Bridge. The NYPD fined the filmmakers because the Brooklyn Bridge does not have breakdown lanes, and ECTO-1 was blocking traffic.

4) Stephen Dane, credited as a ‘Hardware Consultant’, designed and oversaw the development of the original ECTO-1. He only had two weeks to come up with the Ectomobile and all the other props for the movie. His name was misspelled in the movie credits as ‘Steven Dane’.

5) Dan Aykroyd’s original ECTO-1 concept was an all black sinister looking machine with flashing white and purple strobe lights that gave it a strange, ultraviolet aura. While going through the script, the cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs pointed out that the black design would make the car difficult to see on film since part of the movie would be shot at night. As a result, the car was painted white instead.

(This is a suggestion of what a black ECTO-1 would have looked like, not an actual script rendering)

6) Sound designer Richard Beggs incorporated a modified Leopard snarl played backwards for the siren sound.

7) The black and primer Miller-Meteor ambulance seen in Ghostbusters was rented from a private owner, and never converted in to an Ectomobile.

8) Early scripts called for a 1975 Cadillac ambulance. Though by the time the final shooting script was locked in, the 1959 model was settled on.

ECTO-1 IS AN ICON:

The ECTO-1 is dramatically different than the black car original proposed for Ghostbusters. Stephen Dane only had two weeks to come up with the ECTO-1 for Ghostbusters. He said that he got things off the shelf that looked good at the moment, and that he made a career out of “visual bull”.  Yet, a car that was thrown together in two weeks is still immediately recognized and an icon of the Ghostbusters franchise. People even still collect diecast versions of it 35+ years later.

GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE:

‘Ghostbusters Afterlife’ is the latest film in the Ghostbusters franchise. It was directed by Jason Reitman and written by Reitman and Gil Kenan. It stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd, while Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts reprise their roles from the original films. It is the direct sequel to  Ghostbusters  (1984) and  Ghostbusters II  (1989) and the fourth film overall. Set thirty years after the second film, a family moves to a small town, where they discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and their grandfather’s secret legacy.

A third  Ghostbusters  film had been in various stages of development since  Ghostbusters II  in 1989. After Bill Murray refused to commit to the project, and after the death of cast member Harold Ramis in 2014, Sony instead produced a reboot ( Ghostbusters: Answer The Call ). After the film underperformed at the box office, Reitman began developing a direct sequel to the original films.

Ghostbusters Afterlife was scheduled for release in the United States on July 10, 2020, but was delayed to March 5, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ghostbusters Afterlife see’s the return of ECTO-1, which is interesting because ECTO-1 was replaced by ECTO-1A in Ghostbusters II . The car appears to have a more predominant role in the upcoming moving, and will feature more action scenes.

This car is actually the ECTO-1A ( Ghostbusters II 1989)  that has been repurposed as one of three ECTO-1 cars for the new movie. The ladder has been moved from the passenger side to the drivers side, and the rear passenger door has been converted to a suicide door to allow a gunner’s seat to swing out.

You Can Rent the 'Ghostbusters' Firehouse This Halloween — Flight Suits and 1959 Cadillac Included

Attention Ghostbusters fans. If you still haven't made pre-Halloween plans, then we have the perfect vacation rental for you. Vacasa and Sony Pictures are teaming up this year to give you the getaway of your cinematic dreams. A lucky group of up to five guests will have the opportunity to spend three nights in a replica of the firehouse where the characters from the Ghostbusters movie first studied and contained specters in Portland, Oregon.

As with similar film- and TV-inspired listings , the single stay will be available to book on a first-come, first-served basis, so set your alarm clock for 10 a.m. EDT on Oct. 21 and free up your calendar from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31.

The three-story firehouse dates back to the early 1900s and has two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and multiple common areas. And, in order to replicate the firehouse from the Ghostbusters films, guests will find tons of movie memorabilia stashed throughout the house. According to a statement released by Vacasa, the vacation rental company managing the listing, the Ghostbusters firehouse has been equipped with "a scientist-approved Ghost Containment System and a Dark Room where guests can develop and analyze photos of the Scourge of Carpathia."

Expect to find the pantry stocked with Stay Puft marshmallows and Cheez-It crackers, as well as many of Egon's gadgets (the character played by Harold Ramis), including "smoking ghost traps, a P.K.E. meter, proton packs, aura video-analyzer, and an ecto-containment unit." Staying true to the original Ghostbusters station, the firehouse is also complete with Janine's desk and phone, along with a seven-foot-tall Vigo painting hanging on the wall nearby.

The property also has a ton of movie-inspired '80s trinkets, including classic old-school arcade games. This experience is enhanced by a replica of the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Sentinel limousine used by the Ghostbusters and a closet filled with uniforms and flight suits.

The listing states that the property can accommodate up to five people sharing one bathroom, one queen-size bed, and three twin-size beds. Aside from the no-pets-allowed policy, there's just one more house rule, per the listing: "Don't. Cross. The streams. It would be bad. It would be a total protonic reversal… "

The firehouse is located in the vibrant Pacific Northwest city of Portland, known for its Victorian homes, independently owned shops, great eateries, and craft beer. Renting the Ghostbusters firehouse will cost you $19.84 per night, and you can try booking on Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. EDT here .
