What's Your Question?

Treatments for Fingernail Ridges
Fingernails are made of a protein called keratin. Fingernail ridges are common and often harmless, but sometimes they are a sign of an underlying condition. Ridges can also appear on toenails. Treatments are available for ridges, but diagnosis of their cause is the first step for ending the problem.
Fingernail Ridges and Aging
Aging is a common cause of vertical fingernail ridges, which run from the tip of the finger down to the bottom of the nail. Natural oil production slows down as you get older and this lack of moisture can cause your nails to form ridges. Your nails can also become brittle and thin when they don’t have enough moisture. Ridges caused by aging are not usually a cause for concern.
Preventing Fingernail Ridges
While you can use over-the-counter remedies to moisturize and strengthen your nails, daily application of olive oil may give the same results. To help prevent fingernail ridges from forming in the first place, you can also apply coconut oil or vitamin E oil to your nails. Cuticles and nails are softened when oil penetrates the nail and skin. This leads to nail strength and health.
Causes of Vertical Fingernail Ridges_
Vertical ridges in fingernails may be caused by medical disorders like trachyonychia, peripheral vascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis. A number of skin disorders like psoriasis and eczema can also cause ridging to occur. Other conditions to consider when this problem is present are anemia and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Ridges that appear with other symptoms like rough or brittle nails that are not caused by aging should be diagnosed by a doctor.
Causes of Horizontal Fingernail Ridges
Ridges that run horizontally, often a sign of an underlying condition that requires diagnosis and treatment, are called Beau’s lines. Beau’s lines might be a sign of diabetes, acute kidney disease, vitamin deficiencies or thyroid disease. These lines can also develop because of injury. If you have horizontal nail ridges, especially if you have ridges in more than one nail or if ridges are accompanied by dark pigmentation, you should see your doctor as soon as possible.
Good Nail Care
Good nail care prevents and cures some fingernail and toenail ridges. Eating a balanced diet that contains vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and mineral irons is a good start to keeping nails in good condition. Include omega 3 fatty acids in your diet to give nails a healthy appearance. Water assures proper hydration for all body organs. Remember to wear gloves when doing manual labor and use hand moisturizer on a regular basis.

Haunting at the Ridge debuts at Powder Ridge Mountain Park
by: Jayne Chacko
Posted: Oct 8, 2022 / 11:13 PM EDT
Updated: Oct 10, 2022 / 09:41 AM EDT
MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – A Halloween attraction that started 30 years ago is making its debut at Powder Ridge Mountain Park in Middlefield.
The Haunting at the Ridge is a unique haunted attraction because it starts with a suspenseful 10-minute ski lift to the top of the mountain.
Graveyard Productions put on the attraction. It has come a long way since it started decades ago.
“Graveyard Productions started in my yard when my daughter Johanna was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes or childhood diabetes. We decorated the yard to keep her mind off the candy, three years later we had 6,000 people in the yard and then I decided to do it professionally,” said Ernie Romegialli, head of Graveyard Productions.
This year they needed a new location and Powder Ridge Park piqued their interest. The steep mountain and woods set the scene, and the 45 actors in makeup and costume bring everything else to life.
“To really kind of bring that realism to you is a lot of work and they deserve a lot of credit,” said Kaylee Doll, the Haunting at the Ridge Makeup Manager.
Jack the Ripper, played by Chester Koelsch, has been scaring kids for 33 years.
“It keeps me young. Love it, it’s a lot of fun and makes people happy,” said Koelsch .
The trail down the mountain takes guests on a ghoulish trek through the woods, an abandoned colony, and a butcher shop.
If you make it through, the trail ends at the Zombie Lounge, where guests can buy food and drinks, and be amazed by a fire juggler.
The Haunting at the Ridge continues every weekend for the rest of October.
