Brief Synopsis

En route to the Nashville Jamboree, country singers Woody Weatherby and Boots Malone and manager Jeepers are caught in a gun battle between police and foreign agents. Concerned for the health of the overworked Jeepers, the singers stop in a deserted town. When a storm breaks, they decide to spend the night in a ruined mansion. After encountering skeletons and a huge gorilla, the trio meets Madame Wong, the mastermind of an espionage ring. Wong, Gregor, and mad Dr. Himmil are using the house as a front. The mastermind and her bodyguard Maximillian steal an atomic formula from the nearby rocket base, but are pursued by Jim Meadows, an agent for M.O.T.H.E.R. (Master Organization To Halt Enemy Resistance). In the house, Woody and Jeepers enlist Jim's aid in the search for Boots, who has been abducted by the gorilla. Dr. Himmil and Gregor discover Boots and believe her to be a M.O.T.H.E.R. agent. A real ghost helps apprehend the spies, and the singers and Jeepers proceed to Nashville.

Mash together Plan 9 From Outer Space , Eegah! , an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies , an episode of Get Smart , an episode of Scooby-Doo: Where are You? , and an episode of Hee Haw and you get THIS absolute monstrosity of weirdness and boredom. Not a shred of relevance or fun in this fucker, and it’s such a drab and lifeless film in spite of so much potential schlock value.

Gotta admit, the last thing I expected from anything titled HILLBILLYS in a HAUNTED HOUSE  was a much stupider episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

More wanton murder and musical numbers too. Honestly, I'd almost have liked it had it kept up the energy from the beginning. Instead, the "hillbillys" nap for awhile while John Carradine and Basil Rathbone talk pseudoscience at each other. What is this, a Ted V. Mikels film?

Some decent musical performances; Molly Bee was the standout imo. But most of them are really silly, including a number about a dress. And really Cringey racist stereotypes fit the unfortunate standard of the day.

I imagine most who aren't in it for the music will be in it for seasoned horror veterans John Carradine, Lon Chaney Jr and Basil Rathbone. But it's missable, and I knew that when I bought a terrible vhs for like $8.

After all, the goal is to watch ALL 60s horror. But I think I actually might enjoy the first 'hillbilly's' movie > as the musical numbers were a bit more of a draw for me than the contrived absurdity and utter lack of plot here. Shrug. It was okay! This was also #150!

I got all sorts of enjoyment out of this movie. Well, that was a one of a kind experience. I wasn't paying much attention when people weren't singing but I'd bet that this film has everything except gore, naked women and black people.

Musicians on the way to a Jamboree take shelter in a haunted house filled with fake ghosts, real ghosts, Lon Chaney Jr, a gorilla, Chinese spy's, Basil Rathbone and John Carradine. Madness

Buried in all that stuff is also rhinestones, slide guitars, Merle Haggard and a dope rendition of The Cat Came Back.

Hillbillys in a Haunted House...1967 Director...Jean Yarbrough "If you're chicken, come with plenty feathers, and a O-Oh-7 get away car."

Ridiculous, old haunted house comedy sequel to Las Vegas Hillbillys, brought to us by the director of The Brute Man. The cast is amazing, it has Joined Lansing and both her boobs, I'm referring to of course Ferlin Husky and Don Bowman. It also has Lon Chaney Jr, John Carradine, Basil Rathbone and Merle Haggard. This would be the last time Chaney, Carradine, and Rathbone would appear together. Its a Scooby-Doo plot, with occasional musical interludes, with three former horror stars of the 40s probably regretting their life choices up to that point.

This cinematic oddity, can be found on Amazon Prime, Tubi, Pluto tv, film detective, and flix sling. Its for rent or purchase through Amazon and flix sling. Also, there is a dvd out there.

This exists on the outer edge of what I consider acceptable entertainment, with DNA from The Munsters, Get Smart, Scooby-Doo, The Grand Ole Opry, and (naturally) The Beverly Hillbillies, but never managing to be as much fun as any of those things, even with Lon Chaney Jr, John Carradine, and Basil Rathbone helping out like the true professionals they were.

Speaking of professionals, if you're looking for a way to memorialize the recently departed Merle Haggard while also working towards your Spooktober viewing requirements, this would be a title you should think about seeking out.

Round about the time Don Bowman sits down to watch TV and the camera hangs around to let us watch him watch TV for five solid minutes, I got the feeling that the filmmakers may not have had my best interests in mind.

Ferlin Husky's traveling country act gets stranded in a nowhere town, so he and Bowman and Joi Lansing crash for the night in an old mansion that happens to be home base for an exceedingly vague Chinese spy operation headed up by Linda Ho, John Carradine, Basil Rathbone, Lon Chaney Jr. and a gorilla, with a bunch of cheap haunted house effects for cover.

Watched via Rifftrax.

Gotta say, I'm really disappointed by that title. There's a bit of a genre bait and switch happening here -- while the house initially presents as potentially haunted (in the lightest ways of course, like a werewolf suit hanging in the closet), this is more of a spy film. I'm leaving off the word thriller for good reasons. Even the hillbillies are just country musicians. They have thick accents and maybe slight folksy touches, but "hillbilly" is a strong word.

Yet honestly, for a Rifftrax film, this is somewhat competent. In a way, it starts out fairly promising. The goofiness is dialed really high, but it feels like a live action Scooby Doo in how silly everyone…

This movie is a "full length" Monsters Crash The Pajama Party except with three hillbilly country singers on their way to a jamboree in Tennessee instead of college girls.

Now, I put full length in quotes up there because it may be listed as having an 86 minute running time but when the last 20-30 minutes are country song after country song after country song after country song after country song after country song being performed at the above mentioned jamboree...does that really count?

I loved the movie though. I loved Lon Chaney Jr., John Carradine, and Basil Rathbone are dastardly spies. I loved the haunted house. I loved everything about this silly movie...especially this little gem of an interlude right here.
