The Sims 4: Ghosts

Removal, resurrection, and joining the family.

A Ghost in The Sims 4

Ghosts are a feature of the Sims 4 Base Game. They are the result of Sims who've passed away, and their behavior and abilities vary based upon the cause of death. We have a separate guide to individual ways Sims can die, and preventing death . This guide to Ghosts will teach you about their attributes, means of getting rid of ghosts, having ghosts join your household, and how to bring a ghost back from the dead.

Ghost Visits & Basics While there is some variation in what ghosts can do and how they behave, they also share the same qualities. Ghosts will visit in the middle of the night (after 10) and depart in the morning (around 6am). The presence of their urn (indoors) or tombstone (outdoors) is what determines the lot they will spawn on. Ghosts tend to behave erratically, but also in ways tied to the type of death they experienced. Having a haunting can be predictably chaotic, given the damage they could cause overnight, but they're mostly a minor nuisance that sometimes leads to funny moments and overall has a negligible impact on gameplay.

A Ghost scares a Sim in The Sims 4

Ghosts get a few unique socials, namely 'Scare' and 'Pass Through'

Ghosts may cause a Tense +2 Moodlet on Sims whenever they possess a nearby object, and possess the spook and pass through socials in order to scare Sims. Often, their arrival is nothing special to a group of Sims unless they possess a nearby object, and you're able to easily socialize with them and even befriend them over time. The color of a ghost shifts based on their emotions, not on their death type. You can easily tell if a ghost is happy if they're green. Flirty if pink, red is angry, blue sad, and so on.

how to summon ghost sims

Befriending ghosts lets you ask them to move in.

Given the odds are somewhat low for a visit from an individual ghost each night, the more urns on your lot the more likely you are to experience paranormal activity. Players of multi-generational families who keep their previous Sims around may have 2-3 ghosts running around at night, messing with the house. I'd say a ghost appears on average 1-2 nights a week, sometimes more, and you may experience long dry spells with no activity.

Cheat to Get a Ghost

The following cheats add or remove a specific type of death trait that is responsible for making a Sim into a ghost in the first place. Turning one of these on will immediately turn them into a ghost of the appropriate type. Equip the trait with traits.equip_trait X to turn them into a ghost or remove it with traits.remove_trait X to return the Sim back into a normal, living Sim. For this second part, you must use the exact type of death cheat to reverse it. Use the simology panel ( hotkey Y) if you're unsure.

  • traits.equip_trait trait_ghost_anger - Anger, and for example traits.remove_trait anger to remove it. This cheat may be temporarily broken due to a patch .
  • traits.equip_trait trait_ghost_animalobjects_killerchicken - Death by chicken (Cottage Living)

Removing Ghosts and Bringing Back the Dead

Return to the Netherworld sends a ghost off to the beyond, never to be seen again

Ghosts can be removed from the game by sending them to the netherworld. Afterward, the tombstone or urn they belonged to can be destroyed.

Return/Send to Netherworld This is how you get rid of a ghost, forever. Do not use this option unless you are sure that you never want to see a ghost again and that you'll never want to play them. Click the ghost's urn or tombstone and you can release their spirit, permanently. Family tree aside, it will be as though that Sim never existed as far as the game is concerned and they cannot be recovered. Ghosts can decide to 'move on' this way, even once controlled by the player. Simply have the ghost select their own remains and return to netherworld.

Resurrecting Ghosts

Sims who complete the Bestselling Author Aspiration can earn the Poetic Reward Trait , which allows them to write the Book of Life . This book, which cannot be bound to the author, allows a Sim to be restored to life when they are a Ghost. If you want to protect the Author, you'll need to have another Sim do this Aspiration. Once it's written, simply bind the book to a Sim while still living, and then have them read the book themselves. You can make one for every member of your household. The Ghost must use the Restore feature to resurrect themselves. Any other Sim who reads it can only summon the Ghost.

Ghosts and the grim reaper

A group of ghosts gathers around, as the Reaper prepares to make another of the poor test family join their ranks.

If you did not get the Poetic Trait, then you need to make Ambrosia to bring the Ghost back to life. This requires a Death Flower, Potion of Youth, and Angelfish, along with mastery of both Cooking and Gourmet Cooking . Click to learn about Ambrosia and how you can get all its requirements in an efficient way. Ambrosia is one of the more challenging things to create in The Sims 4.

Playing as Ghosts

Ghosts can walk through walls, sometimes.

Ghosts can sometimes take shortcuts to get from A to B faster. This is great, even better is that they're immortal and have all the time in the world.

Playable Ghosts Even if a ghost was your Sim's husband, relationship will decay at the normal rate and thus levels may fall. In order to play as a ghost, you can simply befriend one each time it visits and then ask it to join your household. If you don't mind cheating, you can easily use testingcheats on and shift-click the ghost when it visits, click add to family. If you wait it out, you should be able to befriend them within 2-3 visits and get them to rejoin the family.

Ghosts are immortal as they have already died, and you can play as a single ghost without any living Sims in the household without issue. Sims can Woohoo with ghosts, but may not produce the ever-coveted Ghost Baby. Ghosts do not have any special abilities when it comes to need decay, their needs are exactly the same as those of living Sims.

They can, however, walk through walls (when you've clicked and automatic pathing decides it's a good idea) and get a few unique socials related to scaring Sims. Ghosts can do the 'Ghostly Repair' on certain objects (mainly plumbing, but not electronics), fixing them and saving Sims time. They'll actually gain handiness skill in the process. Other behaviors relate to how they died:

A ghost who was eaten by a cow plant can decay plants when angry

Sims' death type determines their abilities as a ghost. In this case, she was eaten by a cow plant and can now decay plants when angry - hence the red.

Ghost Behavior by Death Type Here are the behaviors ghosts exhibit, based upon the type of death. Many of these effects are situational or only existent whenever the ghost is a non-player character:

  • Anger - May give nearby Sims a small angry Moodlet (+1) with +2 for the Ghost.
  • Cow Plant - When angry, they can Decay a plant and cause it to grow weeds and lose water, possibly killing a plant that was already in bad shape.
  • Drowning - May cause pools of water to appear.
  • Electrocution - When angry, they may break electronics by possessing them. They can also shock Sims for a laugh.
  • Embarrassment - May give nearby Sims a small embarrassed Moodlet, with +2 for the Ghost.
  • Fire - May set fires at times, in random places. When player controlled, click the ground while angry to start a fire (may only work on the home lot).
  • Hunger - Will often eat in the middle of the night
  • Laughter - May give nearby Sims a small playful Moodlet, +1 for others, +2 for the Ghost.
  • Old Age/Overexertion - They just tend to chill when acting autonomously.
  • Sauna - Like the death-by-hunger Sim, except they strongly desire a cool-off. Because of this, they can near-instantly absorb puddles from the ground as opposed to mopping them.

Check your household inventory in Build Mode. I have searched for a ghost for a very long time and suddenly found their urn in a stack of random gravestones that don't belong to anybody. Once you find it, put it on the ground and click "Release Spirit to Netherworld(this is permanent, they'll be deleted forever)" and once they're gone, click on their tombstone and select "Destroy". This will delete their grave. If that doesn't work, and the ghost is in your family, click on a mirror or wardrobe/dresser and select "Change Sim". This will enter you into Create-a-Sim. Hover over the ghost's picture in the bottom-left corner and select them. Then, click on the X in one of the corners. This will delete the Sim.

As an extremely late add-in:

If you have sims that died on their home lot and there are no living sims left on the lot, it's possible to move a new sim into their lot and give the lot the "haunted" trait. After a few sim days the ghosts of the ones that died on the lot should pop in to scare the living. Cheat-add them to that household and you should be able to manipulate then from there... I've tried it and it worked before. dunno if it'll work the same after "haunted" became a 'challenge' rather than a 'trait' .... couldn't hurt to try tho, i guess... love the name btw

The Sims 4 Paranormal: How to summon Guidry the Ghost | Summoning Guidry, Bonehilda, and more

You can tell we've all been alone in lockdown for too long when the newest NPCs in The Sims 4 are an amorous spirit guide and a skeleton with an inexplicable cleavage.

Yes, The Sims 4 Paranormal Stuff Pack introduces a handful of new special characters, including the rakish Claude René Duplantier Guidry — or just Guidry for short — a very helpful ghost who just happens to be permanently stuck in the Flirty emotional state.

The pack also marks the long-awaited return to the franchise of fan-favourite Bonehilda — a skeletal maid whose assets this time around are causing a few raised eyebrows, not to mention scratched heads as we try to work out how a lady with no skin, fat, or indeed bodily tissues of any kind can fill out a dress like that.

Whether your lonely Sims are looking for WooHoo in all the wrong places or hoping to be taken seriously in the Paranormal Investigator career introduced in the pack — either way, they'll want to start summoning these new supernatural friends. Here's how to go about it.

How to perform a séance in The Sims 4: Paranormal

How to summon guidry, how to summon bonehilda, how to summon temperance, how to summon other ghosts and spectres.

While some of the new special characters in The Sims 4: Paranormal will turn up of their own accord, if you want to summon one of them specifically, your Sims will need to perform a séance. There are two ways of doing this:

how to summon ghost sims

  • Using a séance table , a new object available to purchase in Build/Buy Mode. This behaves much like a dining table or gaming table: you'll need to place at least one dining chair in an available slot in order for your Sims to use it. Back in Live Mode, click on the séance table and choose one of the interactions.
  • Using a séance circle , which only becomes available once your Sim has maxed out their Medium skill to Level 5. The séance circle has the same options as the table — but it isn't limited by your access to Build/Buy Mode, and only costs §5. Sufficiently skilled Sims can create a séance circle on-the-go to serve the same function as a fixed table.

There are a number of different séance interactions for your Sims to perform, and who (or what) you end up summoning varies depending on the interactions you choose.

Guidry is a friendly (maybe a little over-friendly) ghost who likes to hang around houses with the new haunted house residential lot type. While the exact timing isn't set in stone, Guidry will appear of his own accord sometime after 9pm on the second day after a household moves into a haunted house.

how to summon ghost sims

Affable and permanently flirtatious, Guidry offers to help your Sims navigate the world of the paranormal in exchange for letting him hang out and lightly haunt you from time to time.

Guidry functions as somewhere between a tutorial guy for the pack, and a tour guide like those you'd find in The Sims 4's vacation destinations. In addition to ordinary social interaction options, you'll notice that Guidry has a unique social sub-menu when you click on him called (wait for it) 'Guidry'.

Going into that menu will give your Sim access to a series of one-off queries about the supernatural, ranging from the generic (starting quite reasonably with 'Who are you?' and 'Why are you here?'), to specific requests relating to the Sim's current emotional state and any paranormal activity they might have recently witnessed.

how to summon ghost sims

In addition to offering advice and guidance with regards to the paranormal, Guidry will helpfully go around clearing up any haunted objects that spawn on the lot — which can make him a very useful friend for Paranormal Investigators, as well as Sims who live in haunted houses.

If your Sims don't live on a haunted property but would still like to visit with Guidry, it's possible for Sims with the Paranormal Investigator License reward trait to summon him at any time using the séance table or séance circle. There's no lower limit on the Medium skill level required to do this. However, summoning Guidry this way doesn't seem to give you access to the special 'Guidry' social menu (though this close to release, that might be a bug) — but otherwise he'll still be his usual helpful and amorous self.

Unlike previous versions of Bonehilda the skeleton maid, who were 'hired' by acquiring their coffins in Buy Mode, The Sims 4's take on the character needs to be summoned during a séance.

how to summon ghost sims

Your Sim will need to build their Medium skill to at least Level 3 and have access to a séance table (or séance circle) in order to summon Bonehilda. There doesn't seem to be any way of failing to summon her once your Sim has the power to do so — which probably shouldn't be surprising: she's supernaturally motivated to provide free maid services for all eternity, so answering when you call presumably isn't much of a stretch for her.

Once summoned, Bonehilda will appear at the séance. For the most part she behaves much like any service NPC, shuttling around performing household tasks such as cleaning and repairs as long as there's anything that needs doing. Some of her behaviours come with a spooky twist, of course.

how to summon ghost sims

And, because I know some of you were wondering — for the first time in the series, you can WooHoo with Bonehilda. It looks to actually be a feature this time, not an exploit like it was in The Sims 3. I'll leave you to wrestle with the various ethical implications of this one.

Bonehilda will stick around while there's work to be done, then hang around for a couple of in-game hours afterwards to give you more time to socialise with her. After that, she'll quietly returning to… wherever it is she came from. She'll also despawn immediately if you travel to a different lot.

There's no cooldown on summoning her back, however, so as long as you have a Sim with Level 3 or higher Medium skill and access to séance equipment on the lot, she can be with you more or less 24/7.

Bodyguard Bonehilda

Sims in the Paranormal Investigator freelance career can summon Bonehilda for assistance during gigs. This can be tricky to do in time, but has some significant payoffs: it turns out that among her many talents, Bonehilda is also a dab bony hand at fending off volatile ghosts during Expert Paranormal Investigations.

how to summon ghost sims

Becoming Bonehilda

Alternatively, Sims have a small chance of turning themselves into Bonehilda while performing the 'Ghastly Ritual' séance interaction. The effects are only temporary (lasting around four in-game hours) and the game doesn't treat this as a failure of the ritual, rather a minor variation on the ghost powers Sims are meant to gain from it.

The pack's third new special character, Temperance , works a little differently to the other two (even after you take into account the fact that in contrast to them, she's not been made out to be weirdly alluring).

Unlike Guidry and Bonehilda, Temperance absolutely does not have your Sims' best interests at heart. She's a sworn enemy of your good pal Guidry, with a permanent Angry emotional state to prove it, and her arrival signals trouble.

how to summon ghost sims

Not that you'd probably want to, but summoning Temperance isn't a simple matter of performing a séance and asking her nicely. Instead, there are a couple of circumstances under which Temperance shows up.

Moving a household into a haunted house residential lot will cause Temperance to spawn after a few in-game days at most, after which she'll commence making your Sims' lives a misery. Sims in the Paranormal Investigator freelance career have a chance of encountering her during an Expert Paranormal Investigation gig.

Finally, in addition to the three new special NPCs introduced in The Sims 4: Paranormal, there are two generic types of spooks that your Sims can summon.

Sims with Level 3 or higher Medium skill can perform the ritual Invoke the Dead using a séance table or séance circle.

how to summon ghost sims

If there are ghost Sims somewhere in your save file (including the handful of pre-made NPC ghosts from certain add-ons, as well as any Sims of yours that might have lingered after passing on), there's a high chance one of them will turn up when you perform the invocation.

Ghosts will be in a random emotional state when they arrive, so the haunting might be volatile or friendly — there's really no way of knowing. Once summoned, they'll hang around for a few in-game hours to socialise or cause trouble, depending on their whim, before departing more or less like any house guest.

If there are no ghosts available to pay you a visit, or occasionally if the RNG just feels like it, you might end up invoking a trio of spectres instead. Unlike ghosts of regular Sims, spectres are floating chibi balloons that don't bear much resemblance to humans — and are unique to the Paranormal pack.

how to summon ghost sims

Despite their cute appearance, spectres can be moderately troublesome (though a ghost in the angry emotional state seems to be more destructive), so it's worth having some high-quality crafted items on hand to appease them with. Failing that, you can even try bartering a piece of your Sim's soul.

If your offering is accepted, the spectres will depart the lot. They'll even leave you a spooky reward for your generosity. This can actually be a good way of gaining paranormal reward items without completing Paranormal Investigator gigs, so it's worth considering trying to invoke a few spectres if you have something on-hand to trade.

Sims 4 Paranormal Specters Guide: All Types, How to Summon & More

how to summon ghost sims

The Sims 4 ‘s new Paranormal Stuff Pack has brought a lot of terrifying additions to gameplay, from haunted houses to a career dedicated to being a Paranormal Investigator. There is one addition that stands out as both cute and scary, though –the specters. These little guys appear as adorable chunky ghosts, but can wreak havoc and even eat some of your Sim’s soul. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about The Sims 4’s Paranormal Stuff Pack’s specters .

How To Summon Specters in The Sims 4

You actually can’t “summon” specters. All you need to do for them to appear is have your Sims staying on a Haunted House Residential lot rather than a normal one (or any other). Once night rolls around, you should start seeing the llittle guys floating around.

how to summon ghost sims

Types of Specters

There are a few different types of specters in the new pack. The first one you encounter is the familiar green little guy. They are friendly and harmless, and interactions with them usually go pretty well.

Another specter you may encounter is red and appears to be angry. These guys love to cause mischief and terrify the Sims around them. Interactions don’t go too well with them most of the time, and they negatively impact Sims that are nearby. Also, they can go from 0 to 100 real quick… Stay away unless you want to risk being set on fire.

how to summon ghost sims

The last type of specter your Sims are likely to encounter is a blue, sad-looking one. These guys sulk about but seem pretty neutral. Interactions lead to mixed results, so they’re not safe or dangerous necessarily. We can’t help but feel bad for those little sad eyes!

how to summon ghost sims

Interacting With Specters

When you click on a Specter, you’re faced with a few different options. The first one reads “Attempt Communication.” If you select this option, your Sim will do just that –attempt to converse with the spooky specter. If this goes well, your Sim will be happy and so will the specter. If not, a negative mood will be inflicted upon your poor Sim (or worse, the angry specters can set things on fire.

The next option is “Offer Soul.” If you select this, your Sim will feel pretty bad about giving their soul away, but they also have a chance of getting a small item in return from the specter (earbuds, for instance). To replenish your Sim’s soul, you can also have them talk to Guidry and say that they sold their soul. He will give your Sim “soul scraps.”

Specters also sometimes leave these behind, so keep an eye out. If eaten, your Sim’s soul will be as good as restored and they’ll be content.

The third option is “Present Offering…” which you need a handmade item crafted by your Sim for. If you gift them something like this, they can give you something in return.

The final option is to “Watch Specter” and this is exactly how it sounds. Your Sim will observe the little guy in his not-so-natural habitat. This is how your Sim learns about the specter, its habits, and its intentions.

❗ There are no cemeteries/graveyards in The Sims 4. ❗ Children can only die by Fire ❗ Death in The Sims 4 is more rare and much harder to achieve than ever before.

Emotions have different intensity levels. Once a Sim reaches the highest level of a specific emotion, they will eventually be greeted with death. There’s only so much Embarrassment, Anger and Hysteria Sims can handle.   No matter which way your Sims dies, the Grim Reaper will be sure to come by and scoop up their soul. You will have the option to “Plead” for the dying Sim when the Grim Reaper appears, but if unsuccessful, he will leave you with the Sim’s Tombstone/Urn. You always have the option to resurrect a Sim as well.

Death by Fire Fire and flames can move through the walls in The Sims 4, so do your best to extinguish nearby flames immediately. Sims who are not able to get away in time will burn to their death.   Advertisement         Death by Rocket Ship (Fire) “Racing” in space (Adventure Text) with a low level Rocket Science Skill, or exploring space after using the “Stuff a Fruit in exhaust pipe” action ( Mischief Skill ) , are guaranteed ways to crash land the rocket ship. Sims who crash in the rocket ship may catch fire from the surrounding flames and die.           Death by Electrocution Sims who repair electronics with a low level Handiness skill risk being shocked. Sims who are shocked during repair will receive the “Singed” moodlet for a few hours. If you attempt to repair broken items before your Sim has overcome the first shock, the Sim will be electrocuted and die.           Death by Hunger As mentioned above, it is much harder to force death in The Sims 4. Sims have a natural instinct to survive, even when you turn their free will off. There are two different 24-hour moodlets your Sims will have to overcome before completely dying of starvation: Hungry and Ravenous . Once your Sim has had the Ravenous moodlet for 24 hours without eating, they will die.   Advertisement         Death by Cowplant The Cowplant must be fed at least once every 12 hours, and if left unfed, the Cowplant will attempt to lure Sims its way by teasing them with cake. Once the Cowplant sticks out his cake tongue, Sims can either Eat the Cake, or feed the Cowplant.   Sims that attempt to grab the piece of cake from the Cowplant’s mouth will be eaten alive by the plant. Some Sims will be spit back out to the ground, while other Sims will take their last breath in the Cowplant’s “stem”.   It is my finding that the Cowplant will “kill” a Sim every other time they “eat cake”. So while you might get lucky the first time, they second is probably going to kill you. Sims who die will be take away by the Grim Reaper, and a tombstone will be left behind.           Death by Old Age Unless you have aging turned off, or they constantly drink the “Potion of Youth”, Elder Sims will eventually pass away. There isn’t much you can to do prevent their life cycle from expiring.           Death by Overexertion (Elders) Elder Sims do not have the stamina they had as Adults, which easily exhausts them when exercising or Woohoo-ing. Elder Sims who reach their limit will receive the “Dangerously Tired” moodlet for 4 hours. Avoid any strenuous activities during this time or they’ll die of overexertion.   Advertisement         Death by Cardiac Explosion (Anger) The angry emotion has four different intensity levels: Angry, Very Angry, Furious, and Enraged . Sims who reach the Enraged emotional state will only have a short period of time to cool off.   Emotions give Sims special interactions, and using them will help lower the intensity level. Sims who are left in the Enraged Emotional State for a long period of time will die.           Death by Laughter (Hysteria) The Hysteria emotion has four different intensity levels: Playful, Very Playful, Silly, and Hysterical . Sims who reach the Hysterical emotional state will only have a short period of time to rid this feeling.   Emotions give Sims special interactions, and using them will help lower the intensity level. Sims who are left in the Hysterical Emotional State for a long period of time will die.           Death by Embarrassment The Hysteria emotion has four different intensity levels: Embarrassed, Very Embarrassed, Humiliated and Mortified . Sims who reach the Mortified emotional state will only have a short period of time to calm down.   Emotions give Sims special interactions, and using them will help lower the intensity level. Sims who are left in the Mortified Emotional State for a long period of time will die.   Advertisement

Saving a Sim from Death

If you do not want your Sims dying and turning into ghosts, there are three ways to save them from death:

• Demand that the Grim Reaper spare the Sim’s life (Requires Confident Emotion) • Plead for the Sim’s life when the Grim Reaper appears • Give the Grim Reaper a Death Flower (Acquired by splicing the Orchid and Pomegranate plants)

Playing as a Ghost

10-06-14_3-08 AM

❗ If you have created an “Epic Saga” for the target Sim via the Book of Life, you can summon the ghost immediately after death. No need to wait! Advertisement

So let’s get us a ghost to play! There’s the easy way, and the hard way. Developers wanted to ensure playing as a ghost was challenging, so if you want a ghost without having to do a thing, head over to The Sims 4 Gallery . If you want to earn the ghost, you will need to do the following:

• Achieve a Ghostly Friendship level of 95%   • Invite the ghost to live in your household   • Play as a ghost!

Seems simple, but keep in mind that it is challenging to raise Friendship and Romance relationships in the game. If you are having difficulties leveling up your ghostly relationship, feel free to use the relationship cheats to raise your relationship faster, or Shift + Click and “Add” the ghost to your family immediately.

10-06-14_3-34 AM

❗ Ghosts do not age. The only way to age the Sim is to resurrect the ghost.

Now that you have a Sim in your household you can resume life as usual. Once a ghost is “playable” it can get a job, get married and contribute to the family like any other living Sim. Ghosts can also change colors depending on their emotion, they have special interactions, and acquire unique abilities in their ghostly form. As a ghost, Sims have the following interactions available with Sims, Ghosts and Objects:

• Ghost Scare – Ghost disappears and reappears • Pass Through – Ghost passes through the body of the target Sim • Possess – Ghost enters and elevates electronics and appliances • Repair – Ghosts repair objects much faster than living Sims • Talk about Death – Social Interaction • Ask about Death – Social Interaction

10-06-14_4-23 AM

• Start Fires – Sims that died by fire can “Start a Fire” anywhere by clicking on the ground   • Share Emotions – Sims that died by an emotional death will pass on their emotion to other Sims   • Break Electronics – Sims that died by electrocution, when angry, have the “Possess to Break” interaction to break electronic devices. They also have the “Trick with Hand Buzzer” interaction by default.   • Decay Plants – Sims that died by Cowplant, when angry, have the ability to “Decay” plants Advertisement

Death Traits

Resurrection.

Just because your Sim is dead doesn’t mean they are gone forever. Sims who advance in the Writing, Cooking, and Gardening Skills are able to resurrect a deceased Sim. There’s two ways to resurrect a Sim in The Sims 4.

10-06-14_1-06 AM-2

Resurrect via the Book of Life

The Book of Life’s functionality has been updated since the October 1st patch that added ghosts. Rather than resurrecting a Sim, the book will only summon the ghost from their grave.

Once summoned you will have to invite them into your household, and have the ghost “Restore” their own life from the book. SimGuruDaniel confirms this change is not a but and part of the challenge.

• Reach Level 10 in the Writing Skill • Complete the “Bestselling Author” Aspiration • Write “ The Book of Life” on the Computer • Once the book is complete, click it and “Capture Epic Saga…” of a nearby Sim • You must “Capture Epic Saga” of a Sim BEFORE they die • When the Sim dies, use the “Summon” interaction for their ghost to emerge from the grave • Invite the ghost to be a part of your household (Requires 95% Friendship level) • The ghost must then use their Book of Life to “Restore Life”     Note : You must build a friendship level of 95% in order to ask a ghost to move into your home. Feel free to use the relationship cheats to raise your relationship faster, or Shift + Click and “Add to Family”

This process can be performed on multiple Sims, with multiple books. There is no limit on how many “The Book of Life” books you can write, nor how many different Sims you can bring to life.

09-09-14_5-18 AM

Resurrect via Ambrosia

If writing is not your forte, try learning to Cook. Ambrosia is a rare single serving food dish that can bring a ghost back to life or reset the age of a living Sim. The dish can be worth upwards of 2500 Simoleons, and lasts 10 hours outside the fridge without spoiling.

Skill Levels required for Ambrosia:

Level 10 of the Cooking Skill Level 10 of the Gourmet Cooking Skill Level 7 of the Gardening Skill

Ingredients required for Ambrosia:

Angelfish – (Uncommon Fish found in Willow Creek) Death Flower – (Acquired by splicing the Orchid and Pomegranate plants) Pomegranates are acquired by splicing Apple & Cherry Trees, or fishing in Sylvan Glades . Orchids are acquired by completing the Space Rock Collection Potion of Youth – (Purchase this from the Rewards Store for 1500 Satisfaction Points)

How to Summon Guidry the Ghost in The Sims 4: Paranormal

How to Summon Guidry the Ghost in The Sims 4: Paranormal

I’ve seen enough movies to know that summoning ghosts is almost never a good idea. If you don’t end up having your soul devoured by a malevolent specter from the beyond, then you end up with a really annoying roommate that you can’t lock out of the bathroom while you’re in the shower. But hey, maybe I’m the weirdo here. Maybe you want a floaty dude phasing through your walls and leaving slime everywhere. Don’t let me judge you. Here’s how to summon Guidry the Ghost in The Sims 4: Paranormal.

As part of the Paranormal stuff pack in The Sims 4 , you can summon spectral beings to your place of residence for a spot of pleasant conversation. One of these beings is Guidry, a friendly spirit that you can call up to bum around the house or clean up haunted stuff in the neighborhood. He’s a bit too flirty for his own good, but he does offer some genuinely helpful advice on living with the knowledge that there’s a world beyond our own.

There are two ways to call up Guidry, and the one you should use will depend on your Sims’ personal living situation. If your Sims are living in a house with the “haunted house” residential lot type, then Guidry will simply show up on his own after they’ve been living there for about a day and a half. Keep an eye out for him around 9 PM.

If you don’t live in a pre-haunted house, you’ll need to conjure up a haunting yourself by holding a seance. To conduct a seance, you’ll need to purchase a seance table from the Build/Buy menu for §333 (half-price!). When you’ve got the table, just set it down anywhere and place a dining table chair in front of it. Click on the table in Live mode and direct a Sim to use it in order to summon Guidry.

You might need to raise a Sim’s Medium skill a bit before they can summon Guidry, so build their skills by performing some simple rituals. When their Medium level is high enough, not only can they summon Guidry whenever, they can also gain the ability to draw a seance circle on the fly instead of needing to use the table.

Guidry will go about his day, offering services and flirting with Sims on his own, but if you’d like his advice, just click on him and access his special “Guidry” sub-menu.

How to Summon a Ghost in The Sims 4: All Types of Hauntings

In The Sims 4, a new patch called "Paranormal" was recently added. It turned the whole Sim world upside down. Now you can become a scientist and dedicate your entire Sim life to researching paranormal phenomena.

how to summon ghost sims

Remember that ghosts bring only chaos and destruction. It may happen that part of a Sim's soul will be consumed. In this article, we will share with you all the knowledge about ghosts in The Sims 4 and tell you about all their types. Let's go!

How to Summon a Ghost in The Sims 4

Summoning them on your own is not possible. The only way to summon them is to move into a house with ghosts . Any house can be made haunted. Supernatural beings appear at night.

how to summon ghost sims

All Types of Ghosts in The Sims 4

There are only 4 types of ghosts as intended by the creators:

how to summon ghost sims

Yellow - non-threatening ghosts, shy in nature. Sims have nothing to fear from them.

Green - pose no danger to Sims. Their presence adds a touch of uniqueness.

Blue - move slowly, have a sad look. They are neutral towards Sims, but contact with them can lead to various outcomes.

Red - stay away from such "residents," they are dangerous. They can set you on fire or constantly scare you.

Interacting with Supernatural Spirits

The developers introduced 4 different ways to interact with the spirits:

Attempts to communicate. You can try to interact with a ghost, but if things don't go according to plan, the spirit will become angry and set you or your belongings on fire. If everything goes well, the mood of both will improve.

Offering a soul. If you go along with it, your Sim will feel extremely bad. To retrieve the soul, turn to the Guidry , he will help you. Sometimes ghosts themselves leave fragments of their soul.

Gift. Create any object and offer it to the ghost, and they will repay you with a similar gift.

Observing the ghost. A Sim who observes ghosts will eventually learn everything about them.

  • Use of profanity (mat) in messages
  • Communication is not on the topic of the material
  • Any insults of other participants, including the author of the material
  • Writing messages in whole or in part in CAPITAL letters (Caps Lock)
  • Expressing your opinion without supporting it with arguments

The sims 4: paranormal stuff - how to summon guidry.

One of the first ghosts a player will meet in The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff is Guidry. He can guide, advise, and befriend Sims in haunted houses.

There are several different spirits players will meet in The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff Pack, including the specters and NPCs like Bonehilda and Guidry. This Stuff Pack breaks from the traditional Sims 4 Stuff Packs, bringing tons of new content for players to enjoy in addition to a handful of useful and stylish new items for Build and Buy Mode and Create A Sim. Players are able to practice and level up their Sim's Medium skill to summon and talk to spirits, explore haunted houses and appease spirits in the new Paranormal Investigator career , and make friends with the spirits they encounter.

One of the first spirit NPCs players are likely to meet is Guidry. Guidry is a flirtatious, friendly spirit who enjoys spending his time around haunted residential lots. When a Sim moves into a Haunted House, or maxes out their Medium skill, they will be able to speak to him and get to know him. Guidry serves as a guide to the pack and to all things paranormal, often teaching Sims what to do to clear a haunted house of accursed objects or appease angry specters. He also has a history with Temperance, the Evil Spirit NPC. He will help players calm angrier or more mysterious spirits and clear cursed objects in exchange for allowing him to appear nightly and do a little haunting. Players will find he is extremely helpful and may even become a close friend of their Sim. Here's how to summon Guidry, whether or not a Sim lives in a haunted house , in The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff .

How to Summon Guidry in The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff

There are two ways to get Guidry to pay a Sim a visit in The Sims 4 . The easiest by far is to move into a haunted house. The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff comes with a premade haunted house called the Duplantier Dwelling, heavily implied to be Guidry's former home. However, players can make any house a ghostly hangout by changing the Lot Type . To do this, players need to click on the name in the upper left corner of the screen while in Build Mode and selecting Haunted House Residential from the Lot Type dropdown menu.

On the second night after a household moves into a haunted house, usually after 9 p.m., the Sims will be visited by Guidry. He will show up on his own without needing any particular ceremony by the Sims. Like the other NPCs, he will usually wander around and do what he wants, but players can  converse with him.

If players don't want their Sims living in a haunted house, they can instead summon Guidry via the Séance Table or a Séance Circle. They will need to have maxed out the Medium skill to do this, which they can do by using multiple interactions at the Séance Table. In these cases, it is unlikely Guidry will hang out every night and will typically only appear when summoned.

Guidry can give Sims a Paranormal Investigator License to help them join the Paranormal Investigator career. He can also offer Sims advice and guidance when dealing with the supernatural and provide a little lore about his experiences when he was alive and his connection to Temperance. Players can also use the typical social interactions with Guidry to become better friends with him. Sims can also WooHoo with him , but only through the use of cheats. He will be a valuable friend to Sims in need of a little paranormal guidance.

The Sims 4 Ghost Guide: Get Your Spooks Up!

ghostsfeature

Did you know there is a ghost occult life state in the Sims 4 base game? Ghosts have been a part of the Sims franchise since the first installment of the series way back in 2000 but they’ve gone through a lot of developments since then.

Sadly, ghosts seem to be a step backward from their Sims 3 predecessors but that doesn’t mean ghosts in The Sims 4 don’t have some gameplay of their own.

Here’s everything you need to know about playing as a ghost in The Sims 4!

Can you play as a ghost in the Sims 4?

Ghost Swimming

Of course, the most obvious way to become a ghost in the Sims 4 is to kill a Sim through any in-game means but this requires some effort, at least if you want to be able to play as a ghost. First, you’ll have to make sure there are at least two teen or older Sims in the household before you kill off one of your Sims. If you kill the only Sim in a single Sim household, you’ll get a game over and have to go back to the world select screen to play as another family. If you kill a Sim with only children or younger Sims left in the house, social services will remove them and you’ll still get a game over screen. You could have your new family purchase the lot with the tombstone on it but it’s easier to not have to do all that in the first place.

When a Sim dies, they become a ghost but they leave your household and turn into an NPC ghost that periodically visits whatever lot their tombstone is on. In order to make the ghost playable, you’ll need to wait for the ghost to spawn. Keep an eye on their tombstone at around midnight each night. They won’t appear every night but they will usually show up once every couple of nights.

Ghost interaction in the Sims 4

Once the ghost is on the lot, your Sim will have to befriend them. Asking a ghost to move in requires a maxed out friendship bar. The option to ask them to join the household won’t appear under the Friendly socials until you have a full friendship bar. If you’re impatient and don’t want to bother building up a relationship with a Sims 4 ghost, you can always use the cheat testingcheats true and then Shift+Click the tombstone to immediately add the ghost to your household.

Ghosts in The Sims 4

Or, if you really just want to jump in the game and play with a ghost immediately, you can always grab a ghost off the Gallery.

Ghost Characteristics

Pregnant Ghost Sims 4

Ghosts change colour according to what their current emotional state is. You can always tell how a ghost is feeling just by looking at them. Their colour will correspond with the different emotion colours:

  • Grey – Fine/Bored
  • Happy – Green
  • Blue – Confident
  • Navy Blue – Sad
  • Turquoise – Inspired
  • Red – Angry
  • Yellow – Embarrassed
  • Purple – Focused
  • Magenta – Playful
  • Uncomfortable – Orange
  • Tense – Light Orange
  • Dark Purple – Scared

The Sims 4 Ghosts will have different special effects depending on the manner in which they died. They may also display unique autonomous behaviours depending on how they died. Ghosts who died particularly gruesome deaths are generally a nuisance to everyone around them. Not every type of ghost will display special effects or behaviours but there are a lot of them that do:

Red Ghost Sims 4

  • Fire – Flame effect flicker on their ghost, will start random fires throughout the house and can be directed to start fires themselves if you’re playing as them.
  • Drowning – Dripping water effect on their ghost. Will leave puddles of water behind everywhere.
  • Electrocution – Crackling electricity effect. Will break objects around the house constantly and has the ability to shock Sims
  • Anger – Rippling effect. Prone to random outbursts of rage, making all nearby Sims angry, too.
  • Cowplant – Will try to kill the plants in your garden by causing them to decay in health.
  • Starvation – Frequently raids the fridge for stuff to eat. They will eat everything in your fridge so if you have a ghost who died by starvation and your fridge is mysteriously empty… you know why.
  • Old Age/Overexertion – These ghosts are by far the nicest ghosts to have occupying your lot. They just sleep a lot so the worst they’ll do is hog your bed.
  • Flies – Will frequently bat at the flies buzzing around them.
  • Murphy Bed – Terrified of Murphy Beds and will frequently lecture other Sims on the dangers of them. Can also possess Sims to rob them of their energy.
  • Rabid Rodent Fever – This is one of the funniest ghosts. They literally come back as a giant rodent frothing at the mouth.
  • Mother Plant – These ghosts have purple spores floating around them and their needs never decay.
  • Freezing – These ghosts have a cloud of condensation following them around, like a Sim exhaling in cold weather. They also shiver and rub their arms frequently. They can also cool down a Sim who is too hot.
  • Overheating – Frequently act like they’re too hot, fanning themselves and wiping their brow. They can also warm up a Sim who is too cold.
  • Pufferfish Poisoning – They have a pufferfish swimming around inside their chest.
  • Spellcaster Overload – Have rays of light and sparkles around them and can be dueled by other Sims.
  • Killer Chicken – Have an evil chicken head with glowing eyes floating around inside their chest.
  • Vending Machine – These ghosts have a spinning pop can inside their torso that sprays pop everywhere.
  • Poison – These ghosts have a green stink cloud following them around.
  • Sauna – Will absorb puddles on the ground. Useful if you also have a Death by Drowning ghost trying to flood your house.
  • Laughter – These ghosts are just Playful often and will make nearby Sims Playful, too.
  • Embarrassment – These ghosts frequently recount the embarrassing nature of their death and become embarrassed all over again. For eternity. How relatable.
  • Sunlight – These ghosts have a sunburst inside their chest.
  • Beetles – These ghosts will never get scared in a Haunted House.

Wondering how to get all these deaths? Check out our ultimate guide!

Understandably, ghosts never age in The Sims 4 and cannot die again while they are still a ghost. In fact, they are frozen at the point of their death in every respect… meaning they cannot reproduce. That’s right, Simmers. Unfortunately, no cute ghost babies like The Sims 3. We’re disappointed about it, too. The only way to have a ghost have a baby is to turn a pregnant Sim into a ghost (via cheats since pregnant Sims cannot die) but your ghost Sim will still give birth to a very much alive, non-ghost baby.

Guide to Ghosts in The Sims 4

Even though they don’t age, ghosts do have a lifespan of sorts. They only have so much time on earth before their spirit fades away to the netherworld. This is usually around 100 Sim days or so, typically a full generation when playing on a normal lifespan. You’ll receive a notification when a ghost is going to return to the netherworld soon.

If a ghost is visiting you at night to cause trouble and you’re tired of it, you can click on their tombstone to release their spirit to the netherworld. This will delete the ghost from existence and your Sims will never be bothered by them again. On the flip side, if you’ve grown attached to your nightly ghost visitor and don’t want their spirit to fade over time, you can click their tombstone and strengthen their connection to the physical world.

Playing as a Ghost in the Sims 4

The Sims 4 Ghost

The Sims 4 kind of treats ghosts the same as regular Sims, which is a bit… unfortunate. This means that your playable ghosts still need to take care of their motives and they will keep inviting their living friends and relatives out for coffee and stuff as if they never died. Yeah. It’s weird.

But ghosts do have some unique interactions and abilities that living Sims do not.

Sims 4 Ghost Interaction

  • Possess – Ghosts can possess almost any object in the game. It’s just a fun classic ghost thing they can do. They will jump inside the object, causing it to levitate for a few minutes. Any nearby living Sims who witness an object being possessed will become scared.
  • Possess to Break – Ghosts do this a lot autonomously but you can also direct them to do it. Possess to break is available on some breakable objects, mostly plumbing. After the ghost possesses it, the object will break and need to be repaired.
  • Ghostly Repair – Ghosts can do a ghostly repair on objects, which is very helpful considering they are usually the cause of the broken objects in the house. They seem to only be able to repair plumbing objects this way.
  • Ghost Scare – Ghosts can sneak up on living Sims and scare them. The living Sim will be quite shaken for a time afterward.
  • Pass Through – This is under the Mischief social category. Ghost Sims can fly through a living Sim which will scare them at first but then the living Sim will encourage the ghost to do it again once they realise hey… this is kinda cool!
  • Reminisce About Life – Ghosts can reminisce about being mortal with other ghosts.
  • Mourn Past Life – Ghosts can mourn for their past lives at their grave.
  • Return to the Netherworld – If you’ve grown tired of playing with your ghost and just want to retire them, you can have your ghost return to the netherworld by clicking on their tombstone. Be very sure you want to do this! Returning to the netherworld deletes the ghost so once it’s done, the ghost is gone forever.

Ghosts can also hover and float around instead of walking. They can pass through walls and objects but the player can’t really control what path a ghost will choose to take to get somewhere. They will sometimes still choose to use doors if it’s not more convenient to pass through a wall.

How to bring a ghost back to life in the Sims 4?

If you want your ghost Sim to return to the world of the living, there are several ways you can accomplish this; however, resurrection has been glitched for some time now. Many players report that the resurrection action cancels itself on the ghost when attempting to revive them, but it does work some of the time. Currently, we’re not quite sure what causes it to work for some players and not others. We have done it multiple times in our own game and experienced both failure and success seemingly at random.

Ambrosia

Ambrosia is a level 10 Gourmet Cooking recipe but your Sims must also be level 10 in Cooking in order to unlock it. It requires a death flower, angelfish, and a Potion of Youth to make. Angelfish can be caught in Willow Creek and Potions of Youth can be purchased from the Rewards Store for 1,500 satisfaction points. See our guide on how to obtain a death flower .

If a ghost eats a plate of ambrosia, they will be brought back to life.

The Book of Life

The Book of Life

Sims who have completed the Bestselling Author aspiration will gain the Poetic trait, which allows them to write the Book of Life. Once the Book of Life has been written, it can be bound to a living Sim. When the Sim dies, they will be able to come back to life by reading the Book of Life.

The Book of Life will only resurrect the Sim it was bound to. Since it cannot be bound to a ghost Sim, the Book of Life won’t be of any use to a Sim who is already dead. This is very much a preventative measure that requires forethought in case something ever happens to a living Sim.

The Wishing Well

Sims 4 Wishing Well

The wishing well comes with the Romantic Garden Stuff pack and can be used to resurrect a dead Sim. Ghost Sims can wish for life at the well for $1 but a resurrection is not always guaranteed. There is a range of different outcomes. Positive outcomes include being gifted a plate of ambrosia or just magically resurrecting the Sim on the spot. Negative outcomes include flat-out ignoring the wish or even sending your ghost Sim back to the netherworld, never to be seen again!

To increase your chances of a good outcome, give the maximum offering of $5,000 to the well before making your wish and don’t attempt to wish if the face above the well is mischievous, angry, or shrouded under a hood.

You can cheat the well outcomes by using the testingcheats true cheat and Shift+Clicking the well to force positive or overwhelmingly positive outcomes.

The Sims 4: How To Become A Ghost

There are a few methods to become or control a Ghost in The Sims 4.

Unlike the past Sims Games, The Sims 4 only has a handful of Occults that can be created in the beginning, whereas The Sims 3 has a long list to choose from. Some of them don't exist in The Sims 4 like Fairies and Werewolves, while others do like Mermaids and Ghosts.

Although Ghosts are non-playable creatures, there are other ways to become or control one. Keep in mind that not only Sims can die and become Ghosts. If players own the Cats and Dogs Expansion Pack , pets also can become Ghosts. Like every Occult, they have their own interactions and abilities.

How To Become A Ghost In The Sims 4

There are mainly three different methods to become or control a Ghost; Gallery, asking them to join the Household, and cheats. The first one can be done in Create A Sim (CAS).

RELATED: Sims 4: Most Futuristic Homes On The Gallery

Players need to click on the Light bulb icon to open up the Gallery . Then, type Ghosts in the Search Box. A list of Ghosts will appear and Simmers can pick any of them and customize it to their liking.

The second method requires both time and patience. It requires meeting a Ghost which can be done in two ways; traveling to different Lots until a Ghost appears, or witnessing a death.

For example, if someone from a Household dies and players chose to keep the gravestone or the urn, the Ghosts would come up every once in a while. When this happens, players can chat with them and build some friendship points. After a while, the Ask to Join Household option will appear in the Friendly Category.

It is possible to find Ghosts lurking around in random Lots. Like the Von Haunt Estate in Windenburg . There are also some Spooky apartments in San Myshuno , so players can try their luck there.

As for the third and final method, it involves cheats. So obviously, players have to enable cheats first:

  • Ctrl+Shift+C for PC
  • Command+Shift+C for Mac
  • R1+R2+L1+L2 for Console
  • All four shoulder buttons for Xbox One

Afterward, type Testingcheats True or Testingcheats On in the cheat console, and The Sims 4 cheats will become enabled. After that, click on the Ghost while pressing:

  • Shift for PC and Mac
  • X and O for PS4
  • B and A for Xbox One

A list of options will come up. When players click on Add To Family , the selected Ghost will join the Household. Like any family members, Simmers can now control their Ghosts.

There is another way to add Ghosts by using cheats . After enabling the feature, type traits.equip_trait ghost_X . X represents how the Sim died. It can be replaced by:

Simmers can remove the Ghost Traits and bring the Sim back to life by entering traits.remove_trait ghost_X in the cheat console. For example, to make the Sim die by drowning, type traits.equip_trait ghost_drown. To remove the Death by Drowning Trait, type traits.remove_trait ghost_drowning.

Abilities And Interactions

Although Ghosts are NPCs, they have many abilities and interactions with objects and Sims. Some of them may cause a Scared Moodlet , while others will cause a Playful or Happy Moodlet. These abilities and interactions are:

  • Possess any object, making it float
  • Pass through walls and other objects
  • Break objects
  • Repair broken objects
  • Pass through Sim

Any additional abilities are related to how they died. For example, Ghosts who died by fire can create fire in the spot they’re standing when angry.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.

Want to become a spooky and ghostly figure? Here, you can learn all about how to play and become a ghost in The Sims 4.

The Sims 4 and its expansions offer a range of beings that you can interact with or play as. One type of Sim that you may see from time to time is the ghost. These are dead Sims that can haunt spooky locations, as well as appear near their own grave.

Related: The Sims 4: Vampires - All The Ways To Become A Vampire

While you aren't able to make a ghost in the Create a Sim menu, you will be able to play as a ghost later on. In this guide, we are going to take a look at the steps to follow in order to play as a ghost in The Sims 4.

To put it simply, ghosts are Sims that have died. They can appear in a variety of colors, which reflects their current mood. For example, if you see a red ghost, that means they are angry. These colors correspond to the colored moods of living Sims.

In The Sims 3, the color of a ghost depended on how they died. For example, ghosts that drowned to death are blue, and ghosts that died in a fire are orange.

The cause of death may also be reflected in the appearance or personality of the ghost. In The Sims 4, it's possible to die of laughter; if this is how the ghost passed on, then they will cause nearby Sims to be happy and playful.

If, on the other hand, your Vampire Sim burns to death, their ghost will have a sun inside it.

The simplest way to play as a ghost is to add them to your household. As with living Sims, you can befriend ghosts and eventually ask them to move in with you.

Once done, the ghost will be in your household, and you can play as them. If you aren't up to bonding with the ghost in question, you can also use cheats to add them to your household.

To do so, you will first need to enable cheats. By pressing Ctrl + Shift + C, type in the following phrase.

  • testingcheats on

On Mac, you will need to press Command + Shift + C . On consoles, just press all four shoulder buttons at the same time.

After pressing enter, all you need to do is hold shift down and click on the ghost. Here, you will see an extended radial menu, with the option to add the ghost to your household. Once in your household, you can play as the ghost normally.

Ghosts In The Gallery

If there are no ghosts in sight, you can also add them to your household or world from the Gallery. Plenty of your fellow Simmers have made ghosts that can be found here.

If you have the Realm of Magic expansion, you will be able to use the Necrocall spell. This is an Acolyte-level Untamed spell that summons the dead from their final resting place.

Once summoned, their ghost will remain present, and you can add them to your household. Alternatively, you can also use the Dedeathify spell, which turns the subject from a ghost into a living Sim.

With the help of cheats, you are also able to play as a ghost. These will affect the Sim that you have currently selected and allow you to choose which type of ghost they are.

In order to use these cheats, you will first need to follow the steps in the previous section to enable cheats. Remember, just press the buttons/keys mentioned and type in "testingcheats on".

With cheats enabled, you can enter any of the following cheats to turn your Sim into a ghost.

If you're looking for the simplest ghost, we recommend using the cheat for ghosts that appear due to old age. These ghosts are pretty simple to manage; although they have no effects, they don't have any constraints and feel just like normal, living Sims.

If your Sim dies without cheats, you won't be able to play as a ghost. These cheats are the only way to turn your living Sim into a ghost while still being able to play as them.

Technically speaking, Sims in The Sims 4 don't have to die: even the inevitable death from old age can be staved off almost indefinitely using satisfaction rewards, or even averted forever by turning the game's auto-ageing mechanic off in the Game Options panel.

In normal gameplay, your Sim's loved ones can even bargain with the Grim Reaper as he comes to collect, which has a chance of successfully convincing him to spare them... at least this time. But, you do of course have the option to just let them go.

how to summon ghost sims

A Sim who dies while you're actively playing their household leaves a grave marker (a gravestone if placed outdoors, or an urn if placed indoors) at the site of their death. This can be moved to a more convenient location in Build Mode, and it serves as a reminder of their life and legacy. Quite a vivid reminder, actually, since sooner or later a ghost of said Sim will emerge: looking much as they did in life, except more... translucent.

how to summon ghost sims

Initially, ghosts will be non-playable characters (NPCs), regardless of their prior playability. These ghosts spawn from their grave marker and will tend to stay nearby to it until you interact with them.

How to meet ghosts in The Sims 4

Unfortunately, NPC ghosts very much work to their own schedule, and there's not much you can do to make one appear except wait. However, you can use the 'Strengthen Connection' interaction with the grave marker to ensure that their spirit doesn't fade from the world in the meantime.

(Translation: because The Sims 4 can only handle a limited number of characters in a single save, NPC ghosts you don't interact with will eventually be deleted to prevent game-breaking overpopulation. Strengthening the connection tells the game not to do this.)

how to summon ghost sims

Additional note: With the Realm of Magic game pack installed, a spellcaster who has reached the rank of Acolyte of Untamed Magic can learn the Necrocall spell to instantly summon ghosts.

After they've materialised, the ghost will hang around the place doing ghost stuff (more on that shortly), and your playable characters can interact with them like any other Sim (including the ability to WooHoo )... although they might need a moment or two for the shock to wear off.

Also, it should also be added NPC ghosts can't be contacted by phone, even if they appear in your relationships panel. Thanks to the weirdness of The Sims 4, however, they might call you and ask you out for a night on the town. Accepting the invitation allows you to build your relationship with the ghost without needing to wait for them to spawn near their grave.

Why would you want to make a ghost playable?

For many players, the idea that ghosts are cool will be reason enough to want to make a few of them playable. They are, after all, the original supernatural creature type of The Sims franchise, and a staple of many occultish households you might want to create.

The main practical benefit of the ghost mechanic is that it allows you to keep a character around after they die. It's useful if you had more you wanted them to achieve in terms of their aspirations, skills, careers, and relationships (a.k.a. a classic case of unfinished business); or if you were just particularly fond of that character. Having a deceased Sim's ghost stick around is also a necessary first step towards resurrecting them, if that's your eventual aim.

how to summon ghost sims

Unlike most occult creature types in The Sims 4, there's no major gameplay differences between a living Sim and a ghostly one: once they move in, a ghost Sim will spend the majority of their time behaving just like they did before they died.

Despite the obvious cosmetic differences, they will still have to eat, sleep, use the bathroom, and generally attend to all the other needs they had in life. Of course, since they can't get any deader, starving won't kill them, and you can feel free to trap them in a burning room or send them swimming until their energy runs out with no further fatal results.

However, catastrophic need failures will still make ghosts very uncomfortable, and eventually you will have to attend to the depleted need before the Sim will be able to engage in any other activities.

In addition, adding a ghost to the household allows you to take control of their hauntings. While NPC ghosts may occasionally engage in destructive or antisocial behaviours based on their cause of death (e.g. a ghost who burned to death starting fires, or one who died from extreme negative emotion causing the same moodlet in nearby Sims), playable ghosts will no longer do this autonomously.

Finally, if you're an achievement hunter, you'll need playable ghosts to unlock two secret ones: 'Ghostly' (have a ghost in your household) and 'Ghost Family' (have a family of 8 playable ghosts).

What can you make a ghost do?

Being a playable ghost in The Sims 4 also comes with a modest set of special animations, object interactions, and social options.

Ghosts are semi-invisible and fade out somewhere around the calf region, which might explain their use of a unique floating walk animation. (Although it does make it very difficult to try on shoes.)

If you've ever been annoyed that your Sim takes ages to pathfind, you'll be pleased to learn that this isn't a problem once they're a ghost: they can take the most direct route to wherever it is they're going, and if there are pesky obstacles like tables and walls in the way, they'll just float straight through them. They can even pass through living Sims, though they won't do this autonomously, but as a social interaction under the 'Mischief' category.

how to summon ghost sims

Other unique social interactions between ghosts and their living friends allow an open and honest dialogue about death and what comes after, as well as giving the ghost the opportunity to deliver a few scares (mostly it's in good fun, though). If you have the Seasons expansion installed, interacting with a ghost fulfills the 'Spooky Spirit' holiday tradition; and with the Spooky stuff pack, ghosts can wear carved pumpkins on their head for a quick boost to their mood.

Finally, ghosts have the ability to 'Possess' certain objects, such as kitchen counters, refrigerators, and televisions. (For meta levels of spookiness, they can even possess their own urn or gravestone.) This causes the ghost to disappear into the object, which will then float around for a few moments while they have their fun. The downside to this is that it can cause some alarm to any living Sims who witness it; but on the plus side, the 'Ghostly Repair' interaction allows ghost Sims to fix certain broken household items as they possess them.

how to summon ghost sims

There are multiple ways to become a ghost in The Sims 4:

Method 1: Making friends and influencing dead people

The only official method for getting a playable ghost in The Sims 4 is to befriend a ghost NPC and add them to your household.

This works in largely the same way as getting a living roommate, except that the randomness of ghosts spawning and the inability to contact them via the telephone adds an extra level of difficulty.

Ghosts of formerly playable Sims retain the relationship values with others they had at the time of their death, with relationship decay occurring at the game's fairly forgiving daily rate if you don't interact. Familial and friendly relationships will see no change in status.

how to summon ghost sims

However, formal romantic bonds - boy/girlfriend, fiancé(e), spouse - will be dissolved (since it would hardly be fair to force the surviving partner to break up with a dead person in order to move on); but romantic relationship value will remain, making it the work of moments to ask one another out again.

Once your active Sim has made contact with the ghost you want to make playable, enough time and positive social interactions will allow you to use the 'Invite to Household' interaction, which can be found under the 'Friendly' category.

The interaction might take a little while to appear, even if your Sim and the ghost have a good pre-existing relationship; don't worry too much if the ghost de-spawns a couple of times and you have to wait for them to reappear again before it becomes available.

Generally speaking, it helps to have the characters be at least Good Friends (which unlocks when the friendly relationship bar is around 60% full); for them both to be in a positive overall emotional state; and for the current conversation between them to also have a positive mood attached to it.

Upon the ghost Sim accepting the invitation, they'll immediately become a fully playable member of your active household.

how to summon ghost sims

Method 2: Downloading a ghost from the Gallery

Unlike most other occult creature types in The Sims 4, you can't create ghosts in Create-A-Sim. Ghosts were introduced as a bonus rather than a big new feature, and so if you want a playable one you're meant to wait for a Sim to die (or help them along in that direction, you murderer) and then have another Sim invite them to move back in, as detailed in Method 1.

However: The Sims community is a generous, collaborative, creative space, and even if the devs didn't want you making ghosts in CAS, you'd better believe that your fellow players almost immediately came up with a work-around.

how to summon ghost sims

Opening CAS and selecting on the 'Gallery' icon from the panel in the upper right hand corner (the one that looks like a stack of polaroid photos) gives you access to player-created content that can be downloaded and added to your game.

Searching the Gallery with terms including the word 'ghost' (e.g. 'ghost family', 'female ghost', etc.) gives you access to literally thousands of playable ghost characters who can then be edited in CAS - because, once playable, a ghost is fully editable.

Some helpful souls have even created 'ghost templates' or 'ghost bases': generic looking starter characters who can quickly be modified into the ghost Sim you want to play with.

how to summon ghost sims

'Merge' or 'Replace' your current CAS Sim with the ghost household from the Gallery, and it becomes an ordinary CAS experience (with an added spectral touch: seriously, have fun trying to pick good shoes for a Sim with no visible feet).

Edit the ghost Sim to your heart's content, save the household when you're done, and voilà! Your playable ghost is ready to move in.

This method has the benefit of being completely cheat-free, massively reducing the risk of corrupting your save.

The only minor drawback is that your ghost won't come with a grave marker, meaning that some interactions tied to that object (e.g. mourning and returning to the Netherworld) are unavailable for that character.

Method 3: Using cheats

There are two main types of cheat to add a playable ghost to your household. As always, begin by saving your game, opening the cheats console, and entering 'testingcheats on'. Then, depending on which result you want, enter one of the following cheats:

  • Adding an NPC ghost to the household: If you want to quickly add an existing NPC ghost to your Sim's household, Shift+Click on the ghost and select the 'Add to Family' option from the pop-up debug menu. This works just like the 'Invite to Household' social interaction in that it immediately makes the character playable in your household, but it carries no potential for rejection.
  • Making a living Sim into a ghost: If you want a playable Sim to become a playable ghost without delay, this is the only way to achieve it. With your chosen ghost-to-be as the active character, enter 'traits.equip_trait {cause of death}'. Any cause of death from the base game or add-ons can be equipped this way: for example, 'traits.equip_trait hunger' will instantly turn your Sim into a ghost who died of starvation, without the unpleasantness of actually watching them starve to death. They will not acquire a grave marker, and their loved ones will not get any Sad moodlets relating to their death; nor will they lose their jobs or romantic relationships.

Method 4: Die

Look, it may not be as fancy as you'd like it to be, but we're 100% sure that the best way to become a Ghost Sim or get a Ghost Sim into your house is to just straight up die.

Once your Sim has died, use another Sim to pick up your gravestone and take it back home. Once that's done, put the headstone down and choose to Strengthen Connection to the Physical World. Then wait. Eventually the dead Sim will show up (usually at night) and you can interact with them. Once you have a friendly relationship with the Ghost Sim (or if you did before they died) you can invite them to your Household again and then, voila! Ghost Sim time.

How you choose to die is up to you, but we recommend going through with this method with another Sim in your household otherwise you'll risk dying and your gravestone being lost to the ages before a Sim can pick it up and put it in their inventory.

As fun as it can be to have a ghost in your Sims' household, there are some good reasons for wanting to restore your dead Sims to life. Neither family members nor the deceased themselves are ever quite able to get over the loss: living loved ones still become sad when interacting with the ghost's grave marker, and the deceased themselves have the unique option to mourn for their own lost life.

Also, ghosts can get kind of distracting after a while: even putting aside their tendency to idly possess household appliances, it can just look a bit weird to have a ghost residing alongside their living family, all of whom are still presumably growing and ageing. Ultimately, you (maybe) wanted that Sim to live a good, long, happy life, right?

how to summon ghost sims

Bringing a ghost Sim back from the dead is no easy task: it can be done, but it usually takes a special show of dedication.

There are two methods of restoring a ghost to life in the base game, and two more have been introduced in add-on content:

Ambrosia: Ambrosia is a food that can be prepared and fed to a ghost Sim in order to resurrect them. However, it can only be prepared by a Sim who has achieved Level 10 in both the Cooking and Gourmet Cooking skills; and requires some extremely rare ingredients: a Death Flower, an Angelfish, and a Potion of Youth.

The Book of Life: A Sim who has the Poetic reward trait (granted for completing the Bestselling Author aspiration) can take preemptive measures to protect their loved ones from a ghostly purgatory.

Poetic Sims have the ability to write The Book of Life on a computer; once written, the book can be bound to another living Sim using the 'Capture Epic Saga' interaction. From then on, if the target Sim dies and becomes a playable ghost, they can use the book to restore themselves to life. (Note: The Book of Life cannot be bound to Sims who are already ghosts, or to its own author.)

how to summon ghost sims

Wishing Well: A ghost can interact with the wishing well object and choose to wish for 'Life'. If they succeed, they will either be restored straight away; given a serving of ambrosia; or given the ingredients to craft ambrosia, which will require the same skill levels set out above. (Requires The Sims 4: Romantic Garden stuff pack.)

Dedeathify: A spellcaster who has achieved the rank of Master of Untamed Magic can use the Dedeathify spell on a ghost to bring them back to life. (Requires The Sims 4: Realm of Magic game pack.)

Resurrection cheats: If the officially sanctioned in-game methods are beyond your Sims' reach - or if you want instant results - you can bring a playable ghost back to life using cheats instead.

how to summon ghost sims

After opening the cheats console and turning testingcheats on, enter 'traits.remove_trait {cause of death}' to instantly return your Sim to the land of the living.

For example, if some cruel person lured a Sim into a swimming pool and then blocked all the exits until they drowned, entering 'traits.remove_trait drown' on the active ghost of said Sim would immediately undo that terrible fate.

If you don't know or can't remember a Sim's cause of death, don't worry: you can view their death trait in their Simology panel. And as always, be sure to save your game beforehand.

What other ghost types are there in The Sims 4?

Ghosts don't have to be just Sims, you know - there are other hybrids out there...

Ghosts and other occult creatures

Ordinarily, The Sims 4 doesn't allow for hybrid creature types. If, for example, your Sim's mother was a mermaid and her father was an alien, she'll be born with just one set of powers or the other.

Likewise, if your Sim is a vampire who dreams of becoming a spellcaster, they'll have to relinquish their status as one of the children of the night before they get issued with their magic wand. It would be really cool to have both at once, but we don't make the rules.

Ghosts are a slightly different matter. Death isn't quite inevitable in the world of The Sims 4, but it's hard for anyone to avoid the Grim Reaper forever, and even the notional immortality of vampirism doesn't protect your Sim from certain forms of accidental death.

Under those circumstances, it would be a bit unfair for you to lose that Sim permanently just because they were an occult creature in (un)life.

how to summon ghost sims

Aliens, vampires, mermaids , and spellcasters retain their powers after they die, in addition to acquiring ghost powers - the one exception to the rule that disallows hybrid creature types in The Sims 4.

Furthermore, Sims who were not occult creatures before they died can still travel to the Realm of Magic and complete the quest to become spellcasters; however, they cannot consume kelp to become mermaids or ask vampires to turn them.

(Luckily, if you simply must have it, the usual cheats can be used to turn any ghost into a compatible hybrid occult type. You can even turn them into an alien, something which is not even achievable in-game through normal means.)

If you have the Discover University expansion installed, your playable Servos will suffer a much sadder fate. Apparently the makers of The Sims 4 don't believe that even the most Turing-test approved robots can have souls, because once your Servo dies, they're gone forever.

They'll leave behind a grave marker for you to remember them by like any other Sim, but there's also a pile of scrap metal next to it: the latter is all that remains of your departed robot buddy.

Ghostly pets

If you have the Cats and Dogs expansion installed, your beloved fur babies will sadly be subject to the inevitabilities of life and death. Fortunately, as with any other living Sim in a household, cats and dogs who have a grave marker on the lot can reappear as ghosts and be added back to your family.

how to summon ghost sims

Like their humanoid counterparts, you can contact your deceased pets by waiting for them to spawn near their grave marker. Once they're there, having them rejoin the family works just the same: do friendly interactions with them until you're at least Good Friends, and eventually you will be given the option to add them to the household.

Ghost pets can be resurrected by feeding them Ambrosia as a treat. If you don't have the requisite skills and ingredients, you can even buy a pet treat version of Ambrosia at the vet clinic, provided you have two-and-a-half grand to spare.

(And in case you were wondering - no, you can't exploit this system and feed the Ambrosia treat to an ordinary ghost Sim. Even a second chance at life isn't worth the indignity of eating a dog biscuit, it seems.)

However, unlike mishap-prone bipeds, cats and dogs can only die of old age.

Therefore, giving them Ambrosia will grant them just two or three days' extra life before they die once again, and restart the cycle as an NPC ghost. So if you want to hold on to them long-term, it's perhaps better to keep them around in ghostly form.

Other unique ghost types

If you haven't played around all that much as a Ghost in The Sims 4, you might not actually know that depending on how your Sim has died, they'll get their very own unique trait. This trait can be seen by other Sims when either interacting with the Ghost or watching the Ghost interact with other objects.

The different Sims 4 Ghost types and traits are:

  • Death by Hunger - This Ghost Sim will occasionally clutch their belly in hunger. That hunger has stayed with them, even in death.
  • Death by Fire - This Ghost Sim has a flame that flickers inside of them and can start fires whenever they want, and even when they don't want to if they are angry.
  • Death by Old Age - This Ghost Sim has done everything they need to do in life, and as such they don't have a specific Ghost trait.
  • Death by Drowning - This Ghost Sim has drowned in a body of water and is now deathly afraid of water. They also leave puddles of water wherever they go.
  • Death by Electrocution - This Ghost Sim has lightning inside of them, and can shock other Sims and destroy electronics if they want to.
  • Death by Anger - This Ghost Sim has some seriously bad vibes, and will negate all of the moods of the Sims living in your Household.
  • Death by Laughter - This Ghost Sim has a case of the giggles, so much so that it followed them to the afterlife. Sims near this Ghost will get a Playful moodlet.
  • Death by Embarrassment - This Ghost Sim proved that dying of embarrassment is real. Nearby Sims will get an Embarrassed moodlet.
  • Death by Overexertion - This Ghost Sim exhausted themselves to death, thankfully they can take it easy in the afterlife.
  • Death by Cowplant - This Ghost Sim got a little too close to a Cowplant. They can affect nature by helping make plants grow, or cause them to whither and die.
  • Death by Steam - This Ghost Sim spent a little too long in the sauna. They will permanently stay dehydrated, even in the afterlife.
  • Death by Pufferfish - This Ghost Sim ate a low-quality pufferfish and paid the ultimate price.
  • Death by Sunlight - This Ghost Sim didn't pay attention to the vampire manual and perished in the sunlight. They permanently have a Sun inside them. (Vampires Only)

The Sims [ ]

Ghosts appear on residential lots that have the remains of a deceased Sim in the form of either an urn or tombstone. They can appear at any time between 12:00 am and daybreak but they don't always appear. When they appear, eerie music will play indicating their presence. They will usually hang around for a few hours doing nothing but just walking around while making windy noises. They take on the same appearance that they had when they died, except that they appear to be pale green-blue and transparent. Although playable Sims cannot interact with them, ghosts can "Spook" living Sims. When this happens, the ghost will sneak up on the Sim, vanish, and then jump up behind the Sim while moaning and laugh. This causes the Sim to scream frantically and run away, while some of their needs will be depleted. This "Be Spooked" interaction can be canceled. It will not override what is in the Sim's action queue, so it can be canceled before the Sim is spooked. One premade lot where Sims can see ghosts is the cemetery of the Goth family, which has the ghosts of dead relatives, i.e. Boy , Bratty , Uncle , Auntie , Grandma , Grandpa , Cousin , and Vegas .

In Makin' Magic , magical Sims can make the Shed Your Skin charm . When it's used at night, the Sim who used it will be transformed into a green, ghost-like figure and will be able to talk to ghosts, as well as walk through walls and objects. Also, drinking Magic Nectar (x2 Grapes, x1 Toad Sweat) has the same effect as Shed Your Skin - but can be used during the day, as well.

The Sims 2 [ ]

Simon Crumplebottom Haunting

Simon Crumplebottom , one of the many ghosts that haunt 165 Sim Lane , spinning a teddy bear 's head.

There is a different type of ghost for each type of death in The Sims 2 . Each has their own color and many have special abilities. All ghosts can scare living Sims—sometimes even to death—by showing themselves. Seeing a ghost is a common want for Knowledge Sims, and they will get a positive memory when they see one. Other Sims will get a negative memory. Sims may also have wants to "See the Ghost" of Sims they are enemies with or furious at. All ghosts can interact with some objects, for example: making a chair float or a teddy bear's head spin. Sims do not seem to notice or react to ghosts unless one chooses to make its presence known.

All Sims aged child and older can become ghosts. Babies and toddlers are not able to die, and so cannot become ghosts. [n 1] Dogs and cats will also become ghosts when they die. Ghosts cannot harm pets, but they can disturb them.

However, even though children can also become ghosts, they are extremely glitchy since a lot of their animations will be missing or broken, as they will simply "teleport" around the lot instead of walking and lack any facial animation whatsoever. Furthermore, they may cause certain NPCs to spawn on the lot to "pick them up" (due to the internal routine of the game when a Sim dies, they are now technically considered to be alone on a stranger's lot at night), including universal NPCs such as the Witch Doctor . You can use mods such as this one to fix this.

In the event that a child dies, it is strongly recommended to move their grave to a community lot in order to avoid impromptu visits from undesirable NPCs or download a mod to prevent them from appearing.

The environment need of a Sim who goes outside at night while more than one ghost is out haunting will drastically lower into the red zone.

Abilities [ ]

Sims 2 microwave

A microwave door floating, levitated by a ghost

  • Walk through walls, fences, and furniture.
  • Scare Sims (Sims can die from fright if four needs are low enough while being scared.)
  • Float chairs (even if Sims sit on them), other small objects and even their graves.
  • Wither flowers.
  • Turn on electronics.
  • Make objects float, such as microwaves, teddy bears, table lamps, and surgical dummy .
  • Make a bowling alley float.
  • Make a xylophone play by themselves.
  • Fill bathtub and dirty them, if they're angry.
  • Visit their bed (the last one they slept in) and other objects they might have been close to. For example: the ghost of a Sim who used to paint a lot may check the easel.
  • Cry over other Sims who have died recently.
  • The ghosts who died by fire can go swimming if there is a swimming pool or ocean.
  • The ghosts who died by drowning will leave behind puddles.
  • The ghosts who died of hunger may open the fridge and look around in it, and steal food from it. They will be unhappy if there is no fridge on the lot, the fridge is empty, or the ghost cannot gain access to it (e.g. water blocking their way).
  • The ghosts who died of disease, electrocution and hail will reenact their death.
  • Clean counters.
  • Take out the trash.
  • Hold babies and toddlers. [ confirmation needed ]

Angry Spirits [ ]

Ghost in the kitchen

Some Sims can get angry if they find their spouse happily married again

A ghost can become angry if:

  • They died of starvation and there is no food in the fridge
  • Their grave is kicked or smashed
  • Their spouse remarries
  • Their family members move out and another family resides on the lot
  • The ghost's family dies out
  • The Sim's most used object, usually the bed they slept in or a toilet, is sold. Thus, if the player plans to keep tombstones on the home lot, it's wise to buy the best beds and toilets before anybody dies so the player won't anger the ghosts by selling the item to buy a better one.

A thought bubble indicates the cause of the ghost being angry.

Although all ghosts interact with objects and scare Sims, angry ghosts do so more violently. Normally, a ghost will only scare a Sim if they're close enough. Angry ghosts will have wider range to scare Sims. An angry ghost may do things such as:

  • Break electronics.
  • Make threatening gestures.
  • Haunt a specific Sim.
  • Yell and think about what made them angry.
  • Make bathtubs dirty.

When to expect them [ ]

Ghosts often appear just after 8:00 p.m. (20:00), but they sometimes appear later in the night, closer to midnight. Ghosts disappear at or around 6:00 am. They're never seen in the daytime or within the hour before or past light (with one possible exception). More than one angry ghost can appear at night, but it's more common to only see one. When there are only a few ghosts, they tend to appear around every three nights. When there are more than five though, they may appear every night. When a tombstone is on the lot, eerie background music may play if a Sim is outside. When a ghost is out, the music will be percussionary, and will play at intervals or whenever a ghost jumps into something. Ghosts themselves emit an eerie ambience (windy noises/howling) whenever they are haunting a lot, it can be heard in the entire lot and becomes louder the closer the Ghost is to the player.

If a Ghost disappears to scare a Sim, their ambience will stop playing until the targeted Sim has been scared.

The exception to the daytime rule is if a grave is struck by lightning . A blue rod can strike a gravestone , resulting in a ghost appearing during daytime hours. They will float around the house for a much shorter period than they would during the night before returning to their grave.

Keeping ghosts at bay [ ]

The easiest way to keep ghosts quiet is to move their graves to a cemetery. When there, several anger triggers won't work; however, a starving ghost will still be unhappy if there is no fridge. Mourning a grave will keep the ghost quiet for the time being, and building a moat around the grave site will stop them from invading the Sim's home, as they can't cross water. If Testingcheatsenabled is on and there is a ghost wandering around, the player can pause the game and make the ghost selectable, then just cancel the "Haunt" action and quickly make the ghost unselectable again. The ghost will then disappear. It is also possible to ForceError them, as this acts like canceling the action.

Players who are irritated by ghosts raiding the fridge or leaving puddles can change how they died by first using testingcheatsenabled and then shift clicking on the ghost's tombstone. Options will then appear to change the cause of death; old age and satellite create fairly quiet ghosts.

Types of ghosts [ ]

Ghost Shocked

A deceased Lilith Pleasant scaring someone

  • Old Age : Sim appears pale grey while pet appears pale blue. Ghost dogs dig phantom holes. While these ghosts are not always peaceful, they are less likely to have a temper.
  • Fire : Sim appears red. They will sometimes swim in pools, bathtubs or in the sea. [ TS2:BV ] While these ghosts are not always angry or violent, they are less likely to be quiet.
  • Electrocution : Sim appears yellow and occasionally re-enacts their death.
  • Drowning : Sim appears blue, leaving puddles of water on the lot.
  • Fright : Sim appears pink.
  • Starvation : Sim appears pale blue and occasionally opens the fridge, removing food points from it. Ghost gets angry if there is no fridge on the lot or if the fridge is empty.
  • Illness : Sim appears bright green and occasionally re-enacts their death.
  • Satellite : Sim appears orange.
  • Flies : Sim appears purple.
  • Cowplant [ TS2:U ] : Sim appears green. If the Cowplant is still on the lot, the ghost Sim will taunt it with a slab of meat. Additionally, if another Sim drank the ghost Sim's life essence, then the ghost will be angry at that Sim. These ghosts usually spend the whole night taunting the plant and rarely tend to roam around.
  • Sunlight [ TS2:NL ] : Sim appears pale blue and is still a vampire.
  • Coffin Scare [ TS2:NL ] : Sim appears pale blue.

Rally Forth ghost

The ghost of a Sim who died by Rally Forth

  • Lightning [ TS2:S ] : Sim appears yellow.
  • Hail [ TS2:S ] : Sim appears magenta and occasionally re-enacts their death.
  • Wishing Well [ TS2:S ] : Sim appears pale grey.
  • Murphy Bed [ TS2:AL ] : Sim appears pale blue, and will avoid the bed that killed them.

Certain types of death don't have a unique ghost color. Instead, their color will be similar to Sims who die of starvation, but their behavior might differ. The ghosts include the death by sunlight, coffin scare, and murphy bed. The wishing well ghost will be similar to ghosts of old age. Ghosts who were struck by lightning will be similar to ghosts of electrocution. The Running with Scissors Playset ghost will be similar to death by fright.

  • In The Sims 2 , all adult male ghosts are voiced by Stephen Kearin, while all adult female ghosts are voiced by Gerri Lawlor, regardless of the voice they had when they were alive.
  • Saying goodbye to a living Sim on the lot can cause the ghosts currently on the lot to disappear.
  • In Apartment Life , ghosts are unaffected by the Tempus Interruptus spell [ confirmation needed ] . Also, using Expello Simae on a ghost will cause it to hover back to its grave and disappear.
  • Deleting a tombstone or urn will prevent that Sim's ghost from appearing. Placing a tombstone or urn in inventory will also keep the ghost from appearing as well as moving them to a graveyard . [ TS2:NL ] +
  • When ghosts appear for the first time, they will cry and then disappear as if they were attempting to haunt an object. Meanwhile, a thought bubble with a red "X" will appear.
  • Also if a ghost appears for the first time, they will spawn right where they died.
  • If the object—which the ghost was close to—is still on the lot, the ghost will clap and cheer at it.
  • Ghosts may react to rain as living Sims do when they come out of the house during a storm.
  • If they are near the Grim Reaper, ghosts may scare him, causing the Grim Reaper to wet himself.
  • There is a glitch that makes a Sim's cause of death (and ghost color) reset to old age (pale grey) regardless of their actual death when moving the Sim's grave or urn to a community lot using the "Move Grave" option. The ghosts will reset the same way if a function to move multiple graves at once is used, as well. A fix is offered in this mod.
  • The first time a ghost comes out of their gravestone or urn, they will cry over their own death.
  • Toddlers will cry when they witness a ghost haunting an object. [ confirmation needed ]
  • Ghosts might also change their clothing to outerwear when the weather is cold and they are exiting the house.
  • The most notable sign of ghosts being angry is when they are angrily waving towards the player while yelling. They might also crack their fingers or make other threatening poses afterwards.
  • Ghosts can become angry while they are actively haunting a lot. For example, if a Sim kicks their Grave during their haunt, they will become angry a few moments later
  • It is possible for angry Ghosts to calm down after a few nights, until they are disturbed again.
  • A Ghost's personality may have an influence on their chance of becoming angry [confirmation needed]

The Sims: Bustin' Out (PS2/GameCube/XBOX) [ ]

In The Sims: Bustin' Out , ghosts work mostly the same as they do in The Sims for PC. The ghosts of dead Sims will appear at night and haunt the living Sims and scare them, and "scary" music will also play when ghosts appear on a lot. Only one lot, Goth Manor , has pre-made ghosts. The ghosts on that lot can be exorcised by using the Séance Table.

The Sims 2 (console) [ ]

In the home console versions of The Sims 2 , all dead Sims become ghosts that the player can fully control. Ghosts will be able to perform different social interactions with living Sims, including the ability to possess and scare them. Their needs will be static in the middle. All ghosts look the same regardless of how the Sim died. Unlike most Sims games, ghosts will appear at all times of day. Ghosts can also be revived by winning a fiddle challenge with the Grim Reaper or giving him §100. Dead Sims are never really lost forever (or at least for a long time) as they are in the PC version.

In the PlayStation portable version, the main character can only die and be controlled. As playing with this life state, the player can move the character throughs walls or scare others. The Sim will stay as a ghost until the Grim Reaper himself resurrects the Sim or is asked by the player before the duration's expiration.

The Sims 2 (DS) [ ]

Although Sims will only pass out and wake up in the Manager's Suite Nintendo DS version of The Sims 2 , there is one ghost that can haunt the hotel. When the Cute Ghost painting is placed in the hotel, Sims may start receiving phone calls and text messages from the guests and concierge complaining about the hotel being haunted. The players may find the cute cartoonish looking ghost (who dons the original look of a ghost opposed to looking like a Sim) floating around Strangetown, he appears mostly in the lobby. He attempts to scare guests but can be temporarily removed via vacuum cleaner; he will return as long as the painting remains in the hotel. Due to the ghost not looking like a Sim it is unknown who he actually is, guests will just refer to him as 'Ghost'. He makes child like noises, so he could be a child. The Concierge will ring the player saying the ghost visited and started crying, though the player will never see this. If the ghost is nearby while the player is socializing with another sim it may reduce the amount of successful interactions needed to successfully perform an interaction.

The Sims 3 [ ]

Riverview-graveyard

Ghosts in the Riverview Graveyard

Ghosts also appear in The Sims 3 , and are fairly similar to those in The Sims 2 . They also appear in different colors depending on how they died, but are much richer in color and appear to have higher visual fidelity than those in The Sims 2 . There are premade ghosts in each graveyard and also in some houses that ship with The Sims 3 and each of its expansions . Unlike in previous games, ghosts are treated like normal Sims and can be interacted with as soon as they appear on the lot by simply clicking on them. They can also be turned into playable characters and can do all of the things normal Sims can do. They are the only life state other than normal Sims in The Sims 3 base game. The ghost state can be combined with all other life states.

They are also seen briefly right after a Sim dies as the Grim Reaper comes to reap the ghost Sim from their mortal body. This also makes it possible for a Sim to fulfill a wish to see a ghost just after another Sim dies.

When talking to a ghost, they sound like a normal Sim with a little echo. Prior to patch 1.26, they would scream at random. Ghosts move by floating instead of walking. They can become invisible, as well as possessing and haunting furniture. Ghosts, including playable ones, have free will actions which tell them to scare other Sims, but they do not do this all the time, and scaring Sims cannot cause death . The most ghosts could do is make a cowardly Sim faint. As of patch 1.6, ghosts float rather than stand (but do walk up and down stairs), and autonomously go through objects, walls and even other Sims.

When a Sim's spouse dies (of any cause except for old age), it will still show the Sim as being in a relationship with their deceased partner. Therefore, if the ghost finds their living spouse (who will be shown as a fiancée instead) performing any strong romantic action with their new partner, the ghost will be angry, as he or she will think of it as cheating. If a Sim goes around town and performs romantic interactions with their new romantic interest, girl/boyfriend, fiancée, or spouse, he or she may get the cheater reputation. The player can stop this by having the surviving partner break up with the ghost when he or she is haunting. However, angry ghosts can be quite violent, so it would be easier to either put the grave in the graveyard, sell it, place it in a Sim's inventory, or hire a ghost exterminator.

Another unique thing about ghosts in The Sims 3 is that they can also go outside of the graveyard to go to other lots and haunt other Sims, but they will only target homes that are somehow related to them. If taken notice of at the graveyard when they are already floating around, some ghosts will seen going out to the entrance and driving away in cars (either a Sloppy Jalopy or Big Lemon). However, the cars will look perfectly normal, not like ghost cars.

Note that, when a ghost goes back to its grave, their relationships will be reset to zero. Therefore, it is useless trying to have a Sim become friends with a ghost unless the ghost's urn or tombstone is placed in the Sim's inventory and taken into their house.

Sometimes, when using the cheat ResetSim [InsertNameHere] on a ghost, the ghost may return to the Netherworld .

As in The Sims 2 , ghosts have different colors depending on how the Sim died, but their appearance is rather different. They have blank eyes, which is their most notable feature. Different ghosts may behave a little differently depending on their traits when they were alive and how they died.

Playable ghosts [ ]

Ghost Family

A ghost family

Ghosts can be resurrected to become playable using the Oh My Ghost! opportunity . The player can get this opportunity 2–3 days after the Sim dies. They can get married and have babies, including ghost babies . As a playable character, the ghost will be added to the household, like a family member. They can then be resurrected as normal Sims if they are fed with Ambrosia . Ghosts who have lost their gravestones cannot be resurrected. In The Sims 3 for console, a ghost can be brought back to life by using the Divine Intervention Karma Power. [1] If a Sim in the player's household dies, that Sim will be playable as a ghost for 5 days. After which the ghost returns to the Netherworld and is never seen again.

There are multiple ways to revive a ghost. If a Sim has a death flower in their inventory when they die, the Grim Reaper will take the flower and bring the Sim back to life. Ghosts can attempt to travel back in time using the time machine for a chance of revival. [ TS3:A ] Sims can also wish for a Sim to be resurrected using the genie . [ TS3:ST ]

Ghost Sims carry their own tombstones in their inventory which cannot be removed. If the player no longer wishes for the ghost to be around, the ghost can be dismissed by simply clicking on it and selecting the "Return to the Netherworld" option. This will revert the ghost to its remains, which will then need to be reburied or turned into an urn.

Ghosts act in many ways similar to normal Sims. They eat food, clean messes, and sleep. Ghost children even go to school, even though they are dead. A ghost child's grade always starts at C, no matter how high the grade was before death.

ChanceSpook

A child having consumed the Ghost Potion

If the Generations expansion pack is installed, a Sim who is good with the chemistry table or has a Ghost Potion in their inventory can turn into a ghost for three hours. While under the effects of the Ghost Potion, the Sim has the appearance of a ghost who died of old age and has all of the abilities of a true ghost; however, as they are not actually dead they do not have an urn in their inventory and therefore cannot use the "Return to the Netherworld" interaction. [ TS3:G ]

The console version of The Sim 3 Pets will have a karma power named "Ghostify" which will turn a Sim to a ghost and can be upgraded to choose a type of ghost.

If the Supernatural expansion is installed, playable ghosts can be created in Create a Sim , and their type of death can be chosen. Deaths from other expansions can also be chosen even though the player doesn't have the corresponding expansions installed. (This is because the codes for expansion-ghosts types are carried forward through the different patches for The Sims 3 . In order to kill Sims to get these types of ghosts, however, still requires their corresponding expansions.) Playable ghosts of pre-existing Sims (as well as ghost pets and Plumbot ghosts) can also be added to a household by using the Philosopher's Stone . [ TS3:SN ]

At the initial release of The Sims 3 , ghosts were unable to become partners in or buy out businesses. However, in fully-updated games, ghosts can now purchase properties (including businesses) by using the "Check Real Estate" interaction on their cell phone.

Related opportunities and wishes [ ]

Sims with the Gold Digger lifetime wish want more than anything to see the ghost of their rich spouse. This can be easily achieved by marrying a young adult Sim to a wealthy elder .

  • Sometimes, when given this scenario, some of the ghosts may appear with a death type from an expansion pack the player does not have installed. This is because the codes for ghost types are carried forward in the patches, and is not exclusive to the expansion pack. Killing Sims in certain ways requires the corresponding expansion pack, however.
  • Sims with the Evil trait often wish to see the ghost of living Sims around them.
  • Several of the Photography photo album in the skill journal include capturing the snapshot of a ghost, some ghosts, and a Mummy-Ghost .

Ghost glitches [ ]

In The Sims 3 , a glitch might occur; when a ghost is haunting the lot, they may continue to haunt the lot forever and never return to their graves. In order to send the ghost back to its grave, the player must activate " Testingcheatsenabled ", hold down shift and left-click on the ghost. The player will see an option titled Force Object ; if it is selected, an option titled "Delete It" will become available. Select this and the ghost will disappear, as if it never came out to haunt the lot in the first place. This cheat is mostly harmless and can be used to send a ghost back to their grave if this glitch occurs. Another way is to send the ghost back to its grave is to use the ResetSim cheat (ctrl+shift+c, then type "ResetSim (first name) (surname)"). Type the name of the ghost into the ResetSim (without the brackets) and they will go back into their urns or graves.

Another bug in the game causes ghosts on community lots to leave the lot and drive to a random unoccupied lot instead. The ghost will move onto the unoccupied space and then vanish. If the player attempts to interact with the ghost or clicks any interaction on it the ghost will disappear. Because of this bug, ghosts will no longer haunt the lot even if they are in a graveyard. This will also happen on unselected households.

Prior to Patch 3 , it was common for ghosts to lose their gravestone if the player switched families. That meant it could not be resurrected nor could it die.

If a ghost is asked to move in and join the active household, the urn or grave for that ghost can be deleted; however, the sparkles on the ghost that died of old age will be lost. If the ghost eats ambrosia , it cannot be brought back to life. Deleting its urn or grave will also cause the ghost state to be permanent.

The Sims 3 (DS) [ ]

Ghosts in The Sims 3 for Nintendo DS look much like regular Sims, but their features are grayed out slightly, and they are transparent. They don't 'walk', so much as they 'float', by lifting their legs up and moving. They cannot drive cars. They also appear prone to glitches, including getting stuck in the ground, and appear more frequently at night. They can be talked to, angered, and even flirted with, but a ghost has the extra ability to scare other Sims. They can go through walls, and when they move, ghostly Simlish can be heard.

It is known that when normal Sims (especially Sims with the coward trait) try to interact with ghosts, their hair turns white, and the normal Sim runs away. When this happens, the ghost that the normal Sim ran away from will usually reenact the normal Sim's fright. Most normal Sims will run to the stoplight beside the road outside the graveyard, scream, and faint; ghosts will run there (or float), and will do what the Sims did. They will scream, fan themselves if it is a female Sim/ghost, and faint, but instead of being transported to the hospital after fainting like normal Sims, they will get back up and float to back to the graveyard. This could be a sign that ghosts are offended when normal Sims get scared of them.

The three ghost characters are Sarah Abreu, Abrams Daigle, and Star Vega. Obviously, all three start out unemployed. None have lifetime wishes, but the players can give them one through the Mid-Life Crisis lifetime happiness reward. Strangely, Abrams and Sarah both have the insane trait, while Star Vega has the kleptomaniac trait. All three of these characters can be found at Pleasant Rest Graveyard, usually only at night. One can play as a ghost by befriending them, inviting them over and convincing them to move in. When played, ghosts act much like regular Sims, and can pursue careers. They can live indefinitely without food, and do not need to use the bathroom or clean themselves. They do, however, have a fun need, sleep need, and social need. When they get a job, or have a Magic Moment, the ghost will appear alive. This can also be seen if one attempts to edit the appearance of a ghost.

Ghosts are generally quite grumpy, and are hard to make friends with. Abrams will usually reject a proposal.

The Sims 4 [ ]

Angry ghost TS4

An angry ghost in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 did not originally contain ghosts. When Sims died, they were permanently unplayable. Ghosts were added to The Sims 4 via a game patch on October 1, 2014. As in The Sims 3 , ghosts come back as non-playable Sims that haunt the area around their graves upon death. Developing a good relationship with them can allow Sims to ask them to join the household.

Newborns and infants cannot be ghosts, while all other life stages can be ghosts. However, toddler ghosts are not accessible without the use of cheats (by either using to equip.trait to give a toddler a death trait, or aging down a child-or-older ghost into a toddler) or mods, and they lack many animations.

Ghosts change to certain colors depending on their emotional state :

  • White: Fine
  • Green: Happy
  • Blue/Teal: Confident
  • Magenta: Playful
  • Red/Fire Engine Red: Angry
  • Grey: Bored
  • Lime: Energized
  • Purple: Focused
  • Dark Blue: Sad
  • Yellow: Embarrassed
  • Orange: Uncomfortable
  • Amber: Tense
  • Pink/Brilliant Rose: Flirty
  • Lavender/Amethyst: Dazed
  • Cyan/Light Sea Green: Inspired
  • Reddish Purple/Eggplant: Scared
  • Navy Blue: Asleep

Sims can interact with ghosts like they can with normal Sims. There is a friendly interaction for ghosts in which ghosts can pass through Sims. Sims can also "Ask Them What Happened" to figure out how they died. Ghosts can appear for every 2 days from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM. Ghosts can also appear in some public venue lots for their visit (especially at night), such as on nightclubs , bars during the Ghost Night [ TS4:GT ] and onsen bathhouses [ TS4:SE ] . Having ghosts in a household is the requirements for two achievements .

Ghosts can possess objects and go through walls and objects, though the player can choose which objects to possess. Ghosts can also break and/or "Ghostly Repair" objects through this possession ability, which is useful for Sims with lower handiness skill.

If Spooky Stuff is installed, ghosts can wear any carved pumpkins on their heads, which will provide them with a happy moodlet.

The known ghost types and their respective attributes are:

  • Old age : The ghost of a Sim who has reached the end of their lifespan will prefer to take it easy.
  • Hunger : A Sim who starves to death will seek to satisfy their hunger in the afterlife.
  • Fire : Imbued with fire, the ghost of a Sim who burned to death can start fires at will, as well as set off continuous fires when they're angry on the lot they live on.
  • Electrocution : Imbued with electricity, the ghost can give other Sims an electric shock. When the ghost is angry , they can possess electronics to break them.
  • Cowplant : A Sim who is consumed by a Cowplant becomes one with nature. If the ghost is happy , they can help plants grow and mature faster. If the ghost is angry , the ghost can choke plants with weeds, and make them decay in quality.
  • Laughter : Humor doesn't end at the grave, and Sims who are nearby to the ghost will become playful or happy .
  • Anger : The ghost will negatively influence the mood of Sims living in the house.
  • Embarrassment : Shame follows the deceased to the afterlife, and nearby Sims will feel embarrassed to be in the ghost's presence.
  • Overexertion : The ghost of a Sim who has pushed the limit will prefer to take it easy in the afterlife.
  • Drowning : The ghost remains eternally wet, causing puddles of water to form wherever the ghost roams.
  • Steam : [ TS4:SD ] Too much use of the sauna can be fatal. The ghost of Sim killed by steam will be eternally hot and dehydrated. The ghost can absorb puddles of water for hydration.
  • Pufferfish : [ TS4:CL ] Eating a low quality Nigiri Pufferfish could prove fatal.
  • Sunlight : [ TS4:V ] Vampires who stay in the sunlight too long will burn to death. A sun is visible inside the ghost vampire that died from it.
  • Poison : [ TS4:JA ] When a Sim is exploring the jungle, there's a chance that Sim can get poisoned. This can happen by a spider, a bee swarm, poison dart, scorpion, when they opened a treasure chest or when they're trying to pass a gate with poisonous gas.
  • Rabid Rodent Fever : [ TS4:MFPS ] A Sim needs to get bitten by their rodent pet while their cage is dirty. The ghost appears as an oversized ghostly hamster that's foaming at the mouth. They can spread the fear of the disease, which will cause all sims in the room to run in panic.
  • Lightning : [ TS4:S ] Sims struck by lightning have a chance to die, especially if they are struck multiple times.
  • Freezing : [ TS4:S ] Sims who stay outside in cold weather without appropriate clothing on for too long will turn blue and freeze to death.
  • Overheating : [ TS4:S ] Sims who stay outside in hot weather without appropriate clothing on for too long will burst into flames and die.
  • Consumed by the Mother : [ TS4:SV ] The ghost of a Sim who is consumed by the Mother Plant will have plant spores floating around them, and will have no motive decay.
  • Spellcaster Overload : [ TS4:ROM ] Spellcasters who push their spellcaster charge to its limits and continue casting spells will cause their magic to react explosively, if done multiple times they will die. The ghost will have light beams coming out of their chest as well as have magic sparkles around them.
  • Crushed by Murphy Bed : [ TS4:TiLS ] Sims who try to pull down a broken murphy bed will have a chance of being crushed by it resulting in death. The ghost will have Z's coming out of their chest. These ghosts can steal energy from living Sims by momentarily possessing them.
  • Flies : [ TS4:EL ] A lot with the Reduce and Recycle trait will attract flies if trash is allowed to overflow, and these flies may end up swarming Sims and killing them.
  • Beetles : [ TS4:EL ] Sims who drink beetle juice three times in succession will instantly turn into a ghost. Beetle juice can be made at level 10 of the mixology skill with beetle nuggets in a Sim's inventory.
  • Falling From Heights : [ TS4:SE ] Sims who go rock climbing in dangerous conditions in Mt. Komorebi with too low of a skill level may fall off the mountain and die.
  • Vending Machine : [ TS4:SE ] Shaking a vending machine to get out stuck items carries the risk of the machine tipping over and crushing the Sim to death.
  • Killer Chicken : [ TS4:CLV ] Repeatedly being mean to an evil chicken may cause it to attack the Sim and kill them.
  • Killer Rabbit : [ TS4:CLV ] Repeatedly being mean to a wild rabbit may cause it to attack the Sim and kill them.
  • Meteorite : Sims have a chance to discover a new meteorite headed straight for them while looking through the telescope. If the sim fails to take shelter, they will be stricken. Death by Meteorite ghosts have a meteor core and will occasionally relive their death.

Special NPC Ghosts:

  • Elementals : [ TS4:IL ]  Elementals are ghosts that can be summoned by Sims with the child of the islands trait. When summoned, they can provide buffs or debuffs depending on how the Sims treat the island and its culture. Elementals all have the Sulani mana trait which can be inherited by adding them to the household (which makes them mortal) and having them try for a baby with a member of the household. Alternatively, the trait can simply be added with the cheat traits.equip_trait trait_Hidden_IslandAncestor_Elemental . Elementals will eventually disappear after being summoned.
  • Island Spirits : [ TS4:IL ] Island Spirits are ghosts akin to the ones from The Sims 3: Ambitions ghost hunting career where they are more ethereal than previous ghosts. Island Spirits can only be seen on lots with the "Island Spirits" lot trait, and will appear at random times. When they appear, Sims can commune with them or banish them. Communing with them will grant buffs and debuffs in a similar fashion to elementals.
  • Forest Spirits: [ TS4:SE ] Forest Spirits are non-humanoid ghosts that are found in specific areas of Mt. Komorebi. A successful interaction with a Forest Spirit will give you a doll version of that spirit that can be hung up at the Sim's home.
  • Claude René Duplantier Guidry : [ TS4:PS ] Guidry is a special ghost NPC that appears in haunted houses or can be summoned by skilled mediums . Guidry is mainly there to help Sims know more about living in haunted houses and also answer many questions for Sims about specters and the paranormal.
  • Temperance : [ TS4:PS ] Temperance is a special ghost NPC who is eternally angry, she appears after a while when a Sim is living in a haunted house, she has a feud with Guidry and will appear to disrupt any interactions to be friendly with ghosts or seances. Sims can stop her if they summon Bonehilda or ask Guidry for a bizarre idol which will hold off Temperance from doing actions.

Specters [ ]

Specters are a special ghost type appearing in haunted houses introduced in The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff . Specters can either be friendly, sad, or angry, and there are multiple advantages and disadvantages to having them in the house. Normal Sims can interact with them fine but Sims who have the medium skill will have a better time influencing their relationship and specters will behave differently depending on their moods:

  • Happy specters will be kind and often give out spooky candy for Sims on the lot, they mostly will float around and Sims can have successful chats with them.
  • Sad specters have mixed results in interactions with Sims. They can be friendly or mischievous as they stay up during the night, and possibly drop cursed objects.
  • Angry specters are very mischievous ghosts that are mostly playful but have a chance when really angry to attack Sims by setting fires on the lot. Almost all interactions with them will fail.

When specters appear, they will cause lights to flicker all about the house. Cursed Objects and not being friendly with the specters for a while will bring down the spiritual volatility of the house as well as make specters angrier.

Sims in the Freelance Paranormal Investigator career will often meet specters and will possibly need to exorcise them from the lot. Sims can get rid of specters in multiple ways:

  • Ask to Leave: Friendly specters most likely will accept this interaction and will leave peacefully.
  • Present Offering: Sims can present offerings of food, drinks, craftables, etc. and the specter may leave afterwards.
  • Offer Soul: Sims can offer a piece of their own soul to a specter, this will cause a Sim's lifespan to fill up a considerable amount. However Sims can eat soul scraps specters leave behind to counteract this.
  • Perform Ceremony: Mediums can perform a ceremony to exorcise all the ghosts, however, if this fails, the specters will become angrier.

Ghosts in The Sims 4 can manually access their abilities, unlike in previous installments where it was an autonomous interaction. All ghosts can do a variety of ghostly interactions, but they can also get extra interactions or effects based on how they died.

  • Possess objects making them float, such as microwaves, chairs, tables, computers etc.
  • Float through objects and walls instead of going around them.
  • Scare Sims. This interaction makes ghosts become completely invisible and reappear with a jump scare sound effect.
  • Break objects such as sinks, toilets etc.
  • Repair broken objects by possessing them.
  • Pass through Sims, which is a more playful interaction that allows ghosts to float through Sims, to which the Sim will be amazed and encourage to pass through again.
  • Wear carved pumpkins on their heads and float around with them. [ TS4SS ]
  • Ghosts who died by fire can stomp the ground and cause a fire where they stand when they're angry.
  • Ghosts who died by electrocution can break electronics such as TV's, computers etc. as well as repair them.
  • Ghosts who died by drowning will leave puddles.
  • Ghosts who died by laughter will always have successful jokes and give off a playful aura to other Sims.
  • Ghosts who died by embarrassment will give off an embarrassed aura to other Sims.
  • Ghosts who died by anger will give off an angry aura to other Sims.
  • Ghosts who died by a Cowplant will cause plants to flourish and grow faster when they are happy but wither and die when they are sad.
  • Level 4 or higher Mediums can perform a Ghastly Ritual that has a chance of temporarily turning them into a ghost. This even allows child Sims to temporarily become ghosts. [ TS4:PS ]
  • Ghosts who died by overheating in the sauna will absorb puddles. [ TS4:SD ]
  • Vampire ghosts who died by sunlight retain their vampiric abilities in death. [ TS4:V ]
  • Ghosts who died by overheating during hot temperatures have an interaction to warm up Sims. [ TS4:S ]
  • Ghosts who died by freezing have an interaction to cool down Sims. [ TS4:S ]
  • Ghosts who died by the Mother will have no motive decay. [ TS4:SV ]
  • Spellcaster ghosts who died by spellcaster overload retain their magical abilities in death. [ TS4:ROM ]

The Sims 4 Paranormal: How to summon Guidry the Ghost | Summoning Guidry, Bonehilda, and more – VG247

how to summon ghost sims

You can tell we’ve all been alone in lockdown for too long when the newest NPCs in The Sims 4 are an amorous spirit guide and a skeleton with an inexplicable cleavage.

Whether your lonely Sims are looking for WooHoo in all the wrong places or hoping to be taken seriously in the Paranormal Investigator career introduced in the pack — either way, they’ll want to start summoning these new supernatural friends. Here’s how to go about it.

How to perform a séance in The Sims 4: Paranormal

While some of the new special characters in The Sims 4: Paranormal will turn up of their own accord, if you want to summon one of them specifically, your Sims will need to perform a séance. There are two ways of doing this:

Enable JavaScript to sign up to our newsletter

  • Using a séance table , a new object available to purchase in Build/Buy Mode. This behaves much like a dining table or gaming table: you’ll need to place at least one dining chair in an available slot in order for your Sims to use it. Back in Live Mode, click on the séance table and choose one of the interactions.
  • Using a séance circle , which only becomes available once your Sim has maxed out their Medium skill to Level 5. The séance circle has the same options as the table — but it isn’t limited by your access to Build/Buy Mode, and only costs §5. Sufficiently skilled Sims can create a séance circle on-the-go to serve the same function as a fixed table.

There are a number of different séance interactions for your Sims to perform, and who (or what) you end up summoning varies depending on the interactions you choose.

How to summon Guidry

Guidry is a friendly (maybe a little over-friendly) ghost who likes to hang around houses with the new haunted house residential lot type. While the exact timing isn’t set in stone, Guidry will appear of his own accord sometime after 9pm on the second day after a household moves into a haunted house.

Affable and permanently flirtatious, Guidry offers to help your Sims navigate the world of the paranormal in exchange for letting him hang out and lightly haunt you from time to time.

Guidry functions as somewhere between a tutorial guy for the pack, and a tour guide like those you’d find in The Sims 4’s vacation destinations. In addition to ordinary social interaction options, you’ll notice that Guidry has a unique social sub-menu when you click on him called (wait for it) ‘Guidry’.

Going into that menu will give your Sim access to a series of one-off queries about the supernatural, ranging from the generic (starting quite reasonably with ‘Who are you?’ and ‘Why are you here?’), to specific requests relating to the Sim’s current emotional state and any paranormal activity they might have recently witnessed.

In additional to offering advice and guidance with regards to the paranormal, Guidry will helpfully go around clearing up any haunted objects that spawn on the lot — which can make him a very useful friend for Paranormal Investigators, as well as Sims who live in haunted houses.

If your Sims don’t live on a haunted property but would still like to visit with Guidry, it’s possible for Sims with the Paranormal Investigator License reward trait to summon him at any time using the séance table or séance circle. There’s no lower limit on the Medium skill level required to do this. However, summoning Guidry this way doesn’t seem to give you access to the special ‘Guidry’ social menu (though this close to release, that might be a bug) — but otherwise he’ll still be his usual helpful and amorous self.

How to summon Bonehilda

Unlike previous versions of Bonehilda the skeleton maid, who were ‘hired’ by acquiring their coffins in Buy Mode, The Sims 4’s take on the character needs to be summoned during a séance.

Your Sim will need to build their Medium skill to at least Level 3 and have access to a séance table (or séance circle) in order to summon Bonehilda. There doesn’t seem to be any way of failing to summon her once your Sim has the power to do so — which probably shouldn’t be surprising: she’s supernaturally motivated to provide free maid services for all eternity, so answering when you call presumably isn’t much of a stretch for her.

Once summoned, Bonehilda will appear at the séance. For the most part she behaves much like any service NPC, shuttling around performing household tasks such as cleaning and repairs as long as there’s anything that needs doing. Some of her behaviours come with a spooky twist, of course.

And, because I know some of you were wondering — for the first time in the series, you can WooHoo with Bonehilda. It looks to actually be a feature this time, not an exploit like it was in The Sims 3. I’ll leave you to wrestle with the various ethical implications of this one.

Bonehilda will stick around while there’s work to be done, then hang around for a couple of in-game hours afterwards to give you more time to socialise with her. After that, she’ll quietly returning to… wherever it is she came from. She’ll also despawn immediately if you travel to a different lot.

There’s no cooldown on summoning her back, however, so as long as you have a Sim with Level 3 or higher Medium skill and access to séance equipment on the lot, she can be with you more or less 24/7.

Becoming Bonehilda

Alternatively, Sims have a small chance of turning themselves into Bonehilda while performing the ‘Ghastly Ritual’ séance interaction. The effects are only temporary (lasting around four in-game hours) and the game doesn’t treat this as a failure of the ritual, rather a minor variation on the ghost powers Sims are meant to gain from it.

How to summon Temperance

The pack’s third new special character, Temperance , works a little differently to the other two (even after you take into account the fact that in contrast to them, she’s not been made out to be weirdly alluring).

Unlike Guidry and Bonehilda, Temperance absolutely does not have your Sims’ best interests at heart. She’s a sworn enemy of your good pal Guidry, with a permanent Angry emotional state to prove it, and her arrival signals trouble.

Not that you’d probably want to, but summoning Temperance isn’t a simple matter of performing a séance and asking her nicely. Instead, there are a couple of circumstances under which Temperance shows up.

Moving a household into a haunted house residential lot will cause Temperance to spawn after a few in-game days at most, after which she’ll commence making your Sims’ lives a misery. Sims in the Paranormal Investigator freelance career have a chance of encountering her during an Expert Paranormal Investigation gig.

How to summon other ghosts and spectres

Finally, in addition to the three new special NPCs introduced in The Sims 4: Paranormal, there are two generic types of spooks that your Sims can summon.

Sims with Level 3 or higher Medium skill can perform the ritual Invoke the Dead using a séance table or séance circle.

If there are ghost Sims somewhere in your save file (including the handful of pre-made NPC ghosts from certain add-ons, as well as any Sims of yours that might have lingered after passing on), there’s a high chance one of them will turn up when you perform the invocation.

Ghosts will be in a random emotional state when they arrive, so the haunting might be volatile or friendly — there’s really no way of knowing. Once summoned, they’ll hang around for a few in-game hours to socialise or cause trouble, depending on their whim, before departing more or less like any house guest.

If there are no ghosts available to pay you a visit, or occasionally if the RNG just feels like it, you might end up invoking a trio of spectres instead. Unlike ghosts of regular Sims, spectres are floating chibi balloons that don’t bear much resemblance to humans — and are unique to the Paranormal pack.

Despite their cute appearance, spectres can be moderately troublesome (though a ghost in the angry emotional state seems to be more destructive), so it’s worth having some high-quality crafted items on hand to appease them with. Failing that, you can even try bartering a piece of your Sim’s soul.

If your offering is accepted, the spectres will depart the lot. They’ll even leave you a spooky reward for your generosity. This can actually be a good way of gaining paranormal reward items without completing Paranormal Investigator gigs, so it’s worth considering trying to invoke a few spectres if you have something on-hand to trade.

How to Summon Ghost Pets in The Sims 4

If you’re wondering how to summon ghost pets in The Sims 4, you are in luck! Ghosts are actually fully playable members of your household! There are a few things to keep in mind, however, before you can summon a ghost. First of all, you’ll need a friendly relationship bar that’s at least 60% filled. You can interact with a ghost by interacting with them on a positive or good emotional state. Once you’ve got the bar full, your ghost will join your household.

Table of Contents

Creating a ghost

If you’ve ever wanted to create a ghost pet, you’ll be happy to know that the process is actually quite simple. First, you’ll need to find the appropriate items to summon a ghost, which will require some cooking skills and the Angelfish. Once you have everything you need, you can then use the Restore feature to bring your ghost back to life. To make a ghost, you’ll need a few items, including a Death Flower and Potion of Youth.

Ghosts can also possess Sims! A ghost with overheating symptoms can be very funny and will often fan itself or wipe its brow. This is perfect for your house with a fireplace, but be aware that it can also cause a flood! Another ghost type you should try is the Rabid Rodent Fever ghost, which will come back as a giant rodent! You can also try the Mother Plant, which has purple spores but no decay.

To become a ghost, you must first make sure you have at least two older Sims in your household. When you’re done, you can then add the ghost back to your household. You can even cheat by becoming a ghost! Just remember, you cannot befriend a ghost until it has been dead for a few days or weeks. Afterwards, you can also make a ghost baby!

Using a ghost pet

The Sims 4 allows you to use a ghost pet to create relationships with living Sims. It is also possible to ride ghost horses, and ghost dogs dig holes just like real ones do. Unlike real pets, ghost pets have no decay and will play with their owners. They can be brought back to life with a Resurrect-O-Nomitron. If you’re looking for more information on ghost pets, you can check out the Prima Guide to The Sims 2.

A ghost pet will only move into your home if you have a full friendship bar. Once the friendship bar is full, the ghost will appear under Friendly socials. Alternatively, you can use the cheat testingcheats true to add a ghost to your household. You can also buy a ghost from the Gallery. This way, you don’t have to wait for your Sim to get in touch with his deceased pet.

The Sims 4 has many ways to bring ghosts back to life, and one of them is the Necrocall. It is a call from the grave and sends a ghost back to life. This is possible with the Book of Life or Ambrosia, though it’s unlikely that it will be a useful tool in your game. So how do you use a ghost pet in Sims 4?

Using a ghost horse

You can use a ghost horse to summon ghost pets in The Sims 4. This will let you ride the ghost horse and make it a part of your household. Unlike regular horses, ghost horses do not scare Sims. They will not haunt objects, but will still have a saddle. There is no special skill required to summon them. However, you must be very careful and use a ghost horse only if you want a spirited pet.

If you want to use the ghost horse, you need to get it in the right condition. A horse with a good armor will protect you from bullets and other damage. It will regenerate its HP, just like in real life. The horse’s HP will regenerate after a period of time. If the horse is injured, it can also regenerate its health. Using a ghost horse to summon ghost pets in The Sims 4 is possible if you have the right equipment.

The Sims can breed ghost pets. However, this will require both a male ghost pet and a playable female ghost. If you have a male ghost, he will be able to breed with a normal female to produce ghost kittens. A ghost horse is the easiest way to summon ghost pets, but a ghost can be difficult to summon. Fortunately, there are several tricks to summon ghost pets in The Sims 4.
