Even in the rarefied air of ultra-luxury vehicles, the Rolls-Royce Phantom enjoys an even more elevated status given its perch atop the Rolls-Royce lineup. And for 2023, the apex predator of this class gets a slight refresh that tweaks its styling inside and out and gives it even more customization options that folks spending a cool half a million bucks on a mode of transportation have come to expect.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2023 Rolls-Royce Phantom 4dr Sedan (6.7L 12cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $4.52 per gallon for premium unleaded in North Dakota.

Rolls-Royce doesn't call these changes a refresh like other automakers; instead it calls the update "a new expression'' for the Phantom. That means a tweaked face with new headlights and daytime running lights, while the Pantheon grille gets some illuminated details. Instead of bright chrome around the vehicle, there's now an option for darkened trim pieces for the windshield, side windows, and grille surround that better match dark paint. Two new wheel designs also debut: a seven-spoke wheel with a milled stainless steel finish and a disc wheel inspired by Rolls-Royce vehicles from the 1920s.

Inside, the steering wheel has been thickened slightly to increase its connection to the driver (though we guess many owners don't do the driving), and the back seat now offers fabric options. The dashboard clock also gets a new surrounding ceramic trim piece that is 3D-printed.

Power still comes from a twin-turbo V12 that makes 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, plenty of power to easily move this luxury sedan behemoth.

• Blind-spot warning system (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)

• Driver Assistance Systems package (standard on the EWB model)
• Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
• Night vision (displays an infrared image of the area in front of the vehicle to assist while driving at night)
• Rear Theatre Configuration
• Two rear electronically deployable 12-inch screens
• Phantom package includes the Driver Assistance Systems package, plus:
• 22-inch wheels
• Rear elevating footrests
• Rear seat curtains
• Wider outboard seats
• Rolls-Royce monograms on all headrests

The Phantom also offers several types of wood for veneer and Canadel paneling. Veneers can be extended to other parts of the interior. There is also a choice of Gallery (dashboard) design, clock design, doorsill engraving and trunk interior color.

Ah, the Phantom. If you were to ask Rolls-Royce to describe its flagship luxury sedan, it'd be reluctant to even admit it's a car. To it, the Phantom "occupies an unrivaled position at the very apex of the luxury world." To Rolls, it is the ultimate expression of opulence in the pantheon of all things resplendent, powerful, awe-inspiring and breathtaking. Its Phantom is a totem of luxury to help deliver oligarchs to their mega yachts and ride high through the plebeian crowds in pure sumptuous grandeur. We appreciate the automaker's commitment to humility and objectivity. To the rest of us, however, the Phantom is just a really, really nice car.

For 2023, the Phantom is getting what most automakers refer to as a refresh. But, Rolls-Royce being what it is, says the Phantom is getting "a new expression" and that it wasn't so much a question of changing the Phantom as it was about keeping it perfect. Right. Anyway, the refresh brings with it a number of small changes to the exterior looks and adds some new interior materials.

Let's start with the exterior. The headlights get a redo and the daytime running lights now feature a starlight pattern, and the pantheon grille is now illuminated — a very BMW characteristic that's been carried over to its luxury sub-brand. There is now the option for darkened exterior trim around the windshield, side windows and grille surround. Phantom buyers, rejoice: You no longer have to settle for chintzy chrome. There are also two new wheel designs. The first one is a seven-spoke unit with a milled stainless steel finish and the other is a disc wheel that's been inspired by Rollers of the 1920s.

Inside there is a slightly thicker steering wheel and the passenger area can now be had in something other than bull hide. One new choice for the rear seat material is a combination of bamboo fibers and cotton, with real leather up front. Meanwhile, the Rolls-Royce clock in the dashboard is now surrounded by a 3D-printed ceramic finish.

There are no mechanical changes to the Phantom for 2023, so the twin-turbo V12 under the hood still makes 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. It's also probably still so silky smooth you can stand a penny up on it as it fires into life, and the coin won't fall over.

For all its pretense, the Rolls-Royce Phantom is a fantastic motorcar. It really is the pinnacle of luxury cars, and if you can afford the $460,000 asking price and need a truly luxurious way to waft about, why would you consider anything else?

What's new for 2024.

The Spectre is a new addition to the Rolls-Royce lineup and its first customers can expect to take delivery by the end of 2023.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Rolls-Royce will let you customize a Spectre pretty much any way you want. And that's a good thing, because, with a price tag this high, we expect buyers will want something truly personalized.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

All Spectres will come with a dual-motor electric powertrain with 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. After taking the Spectre on a test drive, we estimate that the electric powertrain will move the 6559-pound coupe to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. You may scoff at that estimate and point to the Tesla Model S Plaid that hit 60 mph in 2.1 seconds in our testing, but we'd be quick to remind you that Rolls-Royce's brand ethos is more about quiet cruising than mind-bending performance. Although sharp impacts will still make themselves known, Rolls-Royce has installed adaptive suspension to ensure an appropriately isolated ride over all but the biggest bumps and the engineers also made room for a massive amount of sound-deadening material to maintain a whisper quiet cabin. And oh how quiet it is. On the road, the Spectre is so silent inside that your ears pick up almost no sounds until you get up to 80 mph and the wind starts to only slightly penetrate into the tomb-like cabin.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The Spectre sports a 102.0-kWh battery borrowed from the BMW i7 which is estimated to provide a driving range of about 260 miles per charge. DC fast-charging is standard, but we'd guess that most Spectre buyers will have a charging system installed at their estates so they aren't forced to wait around in the parking lot of a Walmart like the rest of us.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

While the EPA hasn't weighed in just yet, we expect the Spectre to receive fuel economy ratings of 72 MPGe city and 75 MPGe highway. When we get a chance, we'll take the Spectre on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with test results. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Spectre's cabin offers space for four with bucket seats in both rows. Anyone who's familiar with Rolls-Royce's current interior design will find a similarly sybaritic one here, although the company has added several design features that are unique to Spectre. For example, in addition to the brand's signature starry-night headliner, the Spectre's door panels rock a similar twinkle with tiny LED lights sparkling in the area surrounding the armrests. We don't yet know all the details or have a list of options and features but the Spectre should be available with a seemingly endless array of personalization options and material choices.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All Spectres come with a touchscreen infotainment system nestled into its finely-trimmed dashboard. A digital gauge display is standard too. The technology is well-integrated into the Spectre's interior design and doesn't distract from the ambiance. A Bespoke Audio stereo system is available and sports attractive aluminum speaker grilles.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Rolls-Royce offers several driver-assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is delighted to present Phantom ‘Inspired by Cinque Terre’ – a magnificent, one-of-one Bespoke motor car that captures the enchanting allure and fascinating viticultural heritage of the fabled Italian Riviera. The Cinque Terre – Italian for 'Five Lands' – lies on the rugged coast of Liguria in northern Italy. Perched on the cliffside, the centuries-old fishing villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are internationally famous for their steeply terraced vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean – a true marvel in the world of winemaking. The area’s stunning vineyards are celebrated in intricate Bespoke features throughout this exceptional motor car. The exterior is finished in a deep, rich Ligurian Blue, further accentuated with a hand-applied double coachline in Navy Blue and Jasmine, completed with a delicate grapes motif. The timeless interior, combining Grace White and Navy Blue leather with Jasmine accents, is adorned with a delicate grape-branch embroidery on the rear doors. Each piece comprises 9,215 stitches made using two different techniques. The grapes are embroidered in satin stitch, with the threads carefully aligned according to the angle at which light strikes the surface to give each individual grape a lifelike tone and lustrous quality. For the grape leaf, the Bespoke Collective employed a flatter tatami stitch, which provides a textural contrast and enhances the embroidery’s tactile qualities. The grapes motif is also captured in an intricate inlay on both picnic tables, made with stainless steel and gold plating. The surfaces were first painted in Milori Blue with a subtle sparkle, giving the colour depth and vibrancy. Next, the inlays were precisely applied by hand and sealed with a clear lacquer. Finally, the surface was meticulously sanded and hand-polished to produce a smooth, seamless finish. Overhead, the Bespoke Starlight Headliner is enriched with a map of Italy, embroidered in 14,338 individual stitches. Five glowing stars precisely positioned by hand at the edge of the coastline represent the Cinque Terre villages. Finalising the design took more than a month, with the Bespoke Collective producing numerous iterations to determine the optimum line weight for the embroidery: wide enough to allow the thread to shimmer, yet sufficiently delicate to render Italy’s entire outline in minute and perfect detail. The Gallery within the motor car’s expansive fascia houses a spectacular, specially commissioned artwork, which captures the colours, architecture and vibrant character of Cinque Terre. Representing an imagined amalgamation of elements from all five cliffside villages, the composition was first sketched digitally, then airbrushed by hand using water-based acrylic paint to achieve an incredibly fine level of detail, before being finished with multiple coats of clear lacquer. The painting's focal features are carefully positioned within the Gallery to ensure their exquisite details can be admired easily by all the motor car's occupants. A final flourish lies inside the glove compartment, which contains silver debossing depicting the five villages. Phantom ‘Inspired by Cinque Terre’ has taken its place in the commissioning client’s collection. As a true one-of-one commission, it will never be replicated.

A VIDEO showing Putin's massive motorcade roaring through Moscow forcing the city to a standstill has amazed viewers.

The video was uploaded to TikTok by @ROJER2345 and has gone viral with more than 150,000 likes.

The video starts by showing a clear road that has been closed for the motorcade.

Before long, the motorcade comes into view made up of 18 different vehicles.

These include police cars, unmarked official cars, luxury motors and even vans, most with flashing lights.

In the middle of it all is Putin's Aurus Senat, which looks suspiciously like a Rolls-Royce but is actually built in Russia.
