Room Selection Processes

The room selection process is set up in two distinctly different processes. There will be an earlier selection for students interested in specialized housing like Gender Inclusive Housing, Experiential Living Opportunities (i.e. Fine Arts, Honors Halls, Substance Free, Women's Leadership, etc.), and triple room options.

The General Room Selection Process will be the process in which most first year students will select. Each student will receive a scheduled date/time during which they can select a room.

Specialized Room Selections

Some halls/rooms may have restrictions due to 2024-25 hall configurations that will be communicated to residents.

Students wishing to be the roommate of a person who is returning to their same living opportunity, upperclass, or triple room selections can also be "pulled into" the room during this selection process. However, each student affected by this housing selection must be listed as a mutual roommate(s) prior to the selection occurring as well as completed their contract and $200 deposit/prepaymen t.

Gender Inclusive Housing Room Selection

The Gender Inclusive Housing Selection Process will be the process in which anyone who has opted into gender inclusive housing on their  Housing Self-Service  personal preferences. Each student will receive a scheduled date/time during which they can select a room.

If you wish to participate in Gender Inclusive Housing options, you will need to ensure that you update your ‘Personal Information’ page to reflect that information no later than Monday, May 6 at 8 a.m. If you update your ELO preferences between May 6 and May 15, email  [email protected] to be manually added to the Gender Inclusive Housing room selection process.

Experiential Living Opportunities Room Selection

The  Experiential Living Opportunities  Selection Process is for those students who have elected or been selected to be a part of an experiential living opportunity on campus.  These selection processes include Honors, 1804 Scholars, Fine Arts, Substance Free, Women's Leadership, LINKS, etc. Each student will receive a scheduled date/time during which they can select a room. If you wish to participate in Substance Free or Women's Leadership housing options, you will need to ensure that you update your ‘Personal Information’ page to reflect that information no later than Monday, May 6 at 8 a.m. If you update your ELO preferences between May 6 and May 15, email  [email protected] to be manually added to the Women's Leadership or Substance Free room selection processes. If you are a part of other groups like Honors, 1804 Scholars, Fine Arts and LINKS your participation in the program will be communicated to Housing by your program coordinator.

Triple Room Selection Process

Housing and Residence Life is excited to offer an early selection process for students who are within a matched group of three to select into triple rooms.

If you wish to participate, you will need to ensure that you are within a fully matched group of three students. If you wish to participate, you will need to be in a fully matched group of three no later than  Monday, May 6 at 8 a.m . If you match in a group of three between May 6 and May 15, email  [email protected] to be manually added to the Triple Room Selection process.

If you do not elect to participate in the First Year Student Triple Room Selection Process, you will be eligible to select at your designated time during the First Year Room Selection Process that will take place between May 20 and 23. If you choose to not select a triple during the First Year Student Triple Room Selection Process, your current matched group of three may need to consider a different option due to the limited number of triples available during the general section process.

General Room Selection Process

Times and dates for selection in the general process are emailed and viewable on the  Housing Self-Service  the second week of May.  The campus wide room selection process will be held on May 20-23 and will be available only to those students who have met the contract and deposit payment deadline.

Students who did not meet the May 1 contract/deposit deadline will be assigned a room by Housing and Residence Life Staff, but can be pulled into a room during room selection by a matched roommate if both students are matched before a room selection is made.

Selecting A Space

Now that you have all the details on what processes are available, it is time to review how to select your space when the time comes. Below is a tutorial video on the process,

as well as step by step instructions below it. If you have any questions on the process, reach out to our office so we can best support you.

Be prepared on your assigned date and time to select your room. You can find your selection date and time on your  Housing Self-Service  page starting the second week of May.

Be aware that on your Housing Self-Service page will have two times displayed: the start time of the selection process and your specific date and time that you are able to select a room! Please read information carefully.

Once your specific selection time begins, you can select a space from that time until the end of the room selection process (time posted on the  Housing Self-Service  page). You may only select once during selection.

Visit  Housing Self-Service  to make your selection when your selection time begins. The Room Selection section can be accessed by selecting the 'room selection' tab located on the left side of the screen. Detailed instructions for selection will be found in  Housing Self-Service  during the selection process.

Tips for Preparing for Room Selection

As you prepare for room selection, there are some additional proactive steps you can do to ensure a smooth process.

  • Know your OHIO email address and password
  • Ensure that you and your roommates are all mutually matched
  • Review all green, building, and room options that you are interested in and have several alternative selections in mind so that you have several back up plans.
  • Make sure that all roommates meet the criteria required for a particular building (i.e., required scholarship for the hall, etc.).
  • Match with all roommates prior to selecting a space so that they will all be successfully "pulled in". If a requested student has not confirmed they are in the roommate group, this will show in the roommate tab of your Housing Self-Service page. Check this prior to selection starting so you have time to follow up with any desired roommates.

Once You Have Made Your Selection

After you have completed your room selection, the assignment will appear on your  Housing Self-Service  overview page with your roommate information. In addition, a confirmation email containing your hall and room assignment will be sent to your OHIO email account within one day of your room selection date. Keep this email for your records.

Application and Assignments

When should i apply for university housing.

First, apply to Southeastern through Admissions at southeastern.edu/apply.  Once you are fully admitted to the University, APPLY FOR HOUSING online .

Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible since residential housing is limited. It is anticipated that all spaces will be filled for the fall semester prior to June 1 st .  The earlier the student applies, the better the chance of securing a desired accommodation and roommate request. It is strongly suggested that students apply in the early spring for the fall semester.

How do I apply for on-campus housing?

You may submit your University Housing application online by visiting the University Housing webpage – southeastern.edu/liveoncampus – and click on “Apply” in the side navigation bar. This page will have a tutorial to show how to access the housing portal to apply. The $100 processing fee and $300 prepayment are required at the time of application: these charges must be paid in full online before the application is considered complete. All must be submitted by June 15 th for the fall semester, November 15 th for the spring semester, and May 15 th for the summer semester to avoid late fees.

Applications submitted after June 15 th for the fall, November 15 th for the spring, and May 15 th for the summer must include a $100 processing fee, $50 late processing fee along with the $300 prepayment.

Is my University Housing application a binding agreement?

Once a student’s University Housing application has been processed, it becomes a binding agreement to which the student is financially committed. Students submitting an application agree to live in housing and are responsible for all housing and meal charges through May commencement, unless applying for summer school housing only.

Do I have to submit any money with the application?

All applications require a prepayment of $300. There is a non-refundable $100 application fee for applicants applying before June 15 th for the fall, May 15 th for the summer, and November 15 th for the spring. Applications submitted after these dates must include an additional $50 late processing fee. These fees are due at the time the application is submitted.

What are the eligibility requirements for new students applying to University Housing?

First time Southeastern students must be fully admitted to the university prior to applying for University Housing.  All non-resident returners (students not currently residents) must have a 2.0 overall GPA prior to applying for University Housing. Some residence halls have additional criteria for placement.

If I apply for housing and then decide to commute or live off-campus, what should I do?

If you have NOT paid fees, you may log into the Housing portal to cancel.

If you HAVE paid fees, you will need to submit a cancellation request via the homepage of the housing portal.

If you cancel after June 15th for Fall or November 15th for Spring, there will be no credit given for the processing fee or prepayment.

Are there any other requirements for University Housing?

Students should participate in Early Registration for the upcoming fall semester if applying for the fall/spring academic year (returning students only).

Students should have good financial standing with the University and University Housing (current with all fee payments).

Students should have good behavioral standing with the University and University Housing (no interim suspensions or lease terminations from University Housing).

What happens if I am unable to secure 12 hours of classes before 15th class day?

What happens if i drop below 12 hours of classes after the 15th class day, if i drop below the required gpa, how can i appeal to live on campus, and what are the deadlines.

Residents are contractually obligated to reside in on-campus housing for one year (consecutive Fall and Spring semesters), including residents that are below the 2.0 GPA requirement and/or part-time status. Residents below the minimum GPA requirement will be allowed to participate in the Fall Reapplication process. All appeal decisions are final. Consult the Resident Guidebook for appeal deadlines.

What happens if I fail to turn in my appeal before the academic appeal deadline?

Any appeals submitted after the deadline will be processed and considered for the following semesters. In the meantime, students must find alternate housing as on-campus housing will not be an option.

Does anyone ever not get a room?

University Housing encourages students to apply early since space is contingent on the number of applicants each semester. On-campus housing is encouraged for all students, but is not required or guaranteed.

When is it too late to apply for housing?

It is never too late to apply for housing.  Students are encouraged to apply and complete their application as early as possible in order to have a better chance of securing an assignment.

If I choose to live on campus, how long must I reside there?

Residents are obligated to remain in housing through the Agreement period. Residents have the option to pay the buyout fee of $750 if they choose not to remain on campus for the extent of the Academic Year Agreement.

Do you have gender specific residence halls?

Yes, we have two all-female residence halls. Pride Hall is located on the main campus and is eligible to all females. Village M is also an all-female residence hall located on north campus. Priority for Village M is given to females going through sorority recruitment.

Am I required to move out of my room in between the fall and spring semester?

No, residents are not required to remove belongings from their rooms during the Winter Break unless they are not returning for the spring semester. All on-campus housing, with the exception of Taylor Hall, Southeastern Oaks, and Greek Village will close for winter break. During this period, residents are not allowed to enter their room.

Which halls are open over breaks?

University Housing is open during all university closures except Winter Break in December. During this period, residents are not allowed access to their room, with the exception of Taylor Hall, Southeastern Oaks, and Greek Village (NOT including Village M). If you will require housing during Winter Break, you should notify University Housing at the time of your application.

Amenities and Services

Do i have to purchase a meal plan, can i choose my roommate.

Students must complete the housing application by the stated semester deadlines in order to participate in roommate matching and room self-selection through the online portal. Students will be notified via their university email when the roommate portion will be available .

How do you match roommates?

Will i be guaranteed a room assignment.

Room assignments cannot be guaranteed due to space availability.  All students are encouraged to apply early as housing assignments are based on the application complete date; therefore early submission and completion are encouraged in order to have a better chance of securing an on-campus residence. Returning students do have priority for available rooms as long as the application is complete by the stated deadlines.

When will I be notified of my room assignment?

Students will receive a designated time to log in to the online housing portal and select the building and room of their preference. Details of timeslot and the process for selecting rooms will be emailed to all applicants. Room self-selection is based on the application completion date.

What if I do not get along with my roommate once we move in together?

Our residential staff members are trained to help roommates communicate with each other, to identify what they consider important, and to negotiate the “house rules.” However, if roommates decide that they are not compatible, efforts will be made to facilitate a room change for one of the roommates.  Room changes are not allowed during the first two weeks of any semester since this time period is used to verify vacancies and maximize the options for those who wish to relocate.

How are the rooms furnished?

Double residence hall rooms contain two twin bunkable beds, two desks, two chairs and two armoires (single suites and singles contain one of each). In Southeastern Oaks, each unit is fully furnished and includes a sofa, chair, two end tables and entertainment center in the common area. The kitchen includes a dining table with chairs, stove, dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator. Each bedroom includes a full-sized bed, desk, dresser and closet. Amenities include utilities, high-speed internet per person, or wifi per room.

What size are the beds in the residence halls?

Mattresses in our residence halls are extra-long (36”X80”).  University Housing has partnered with Residence Hall Linens to provide our students with a convenient, affordable, way to purchase extra-long bedding items, as well as other campus-living necessities.

What facilities are available in each hall?

Laundry facilities are available in Cardinal Newman Hall, Washington Hall, Hammond Hall, Louisiana Hall, and on North Campus.  Snack and drink machines are located on North Campus, Cardinal Newman Hall, Hammond Hall, Louisiana Hall, Pride Hall, Taylor Hall and Washington Hall. Mane Market Convenience Store is located in Louisiana Hall. The Ascension Market is located in Ascension Hall.

Are residence hall rooms carpeted?

Am i allowed to bring a microwave and small personal refrigerator.

Yes, you are allowed to have a microwave and small refrigerator. However, appliances with an exposed heating element such as toasters and coffee pots are not permitted in the residence halls. Residents living in Twelve Oaks or Ascension Hall are not allowed to bring personal microwaves and refrigerators as a microfridge is already provided.

Am I allowed to have a pet?

Animals that are accommodations for a disability will not be considered pets and must be approved by the University Housing Office and/or the Office of Student Accessibility Services as a reasonable accommodation to this policy.

Policies and Procedures

When should i reapply for housing.

All returning students will be required to go through the reapplication process, as well as submit the $300 prepayment online and must be pre-registered for the fall semester. Returners residing on campus must apply for the next agreement term while they are a current resident “in room” to avoid paying the $100 processing fee. Once checked out, a resident is no longer considered a current resident, therefore the application will be considered new and the $100 processing fee will apply.

All Greek Returners will be required to go through the online application process for the Spring Greek Only Term, as well as submit the $300 prepayment and must be pre-registered for the spring semester. Greek Returners residing in Greek Village must apply for the next agreement term while they are a current resident “in room” to avoid being charged the $100 processing fee. Otherwise, students are considered “new applicants” and will be charged the $100 processing fee.

How can I be released from my University Housing agreement at the end of the fall semester?

Can freshmen have cars on campus, is alcohol allowed in the residence halls.

  • Unauthorized or illegal use, possession, manufacturing, distribution, or sale of alcohol; public intoxication; operating a vehicle or other mode of transportation under the influence of alcohol; or any violation of the University’s Alcohol Policy (see the Student Alcohol Policy) is prohibited.
  • Residents of Southeastern Oaks Apartments who are 21 years of age or older are permitted to possess and/or consume alcohol within their individually assigned bedroom space within the apartment. Alcohol may not be consumed in common areas of the apartment unless all residents of the apartment are 21 years of age or older.
  • Containers and/or paraphernalia that promote a high quantity or quick consumption of alcohol (i.e., kegs, funnels, etc.) are prohibited in all on-campus housing facilities.
  • Empty or unopened alcohol containers are prohibited in all on-campus housing facilities with the exception of Southeastern Oaks where the resident is at least 21 years of age or older.
  • The use of alcohol containers as room decoration is prohibited.

Is smoking allowed in the residence halls?

Smoking is prohibited on campus, including all residence halls.

What is the guest policy?

  • Residents are encouraged to discuss their preferences for overnight guests soon after getting settled into their room. The Resident Assistant is available to assist residents in establishing guest guidelines. A Roommate Contract can be completed with the assistance of the RA, and should be revisited each time overnight guests are planned as well as any other time roommates deem necessary. Residents should seek the assistance of the Resident Assistant as needed for help regarding roommate agreements and guest concerns. Remember, any guest visitation requires roommate consent in advance of the guest’s arrival in order to maintain a comfortable living environment for all. Invited friends and relatives may be entertained overnight when space is available and arrangements are made with your roommate or suitemate prior to their arrival.
  • There may be only one (1) overnight guest per resident. A guest is defined as any person not assigned to the room of the host. The hosting resident is to be present with the guest at all times. The resident will be responsible for all actions of their guests. A resident may not have an overnight guest more than two nights per week and no more than a total of five (5) nights per month. All residents of the unit must consent to the guest staying in the unit overnight prior to their arrival.
  • Cohabitation is prohibited. Cohabitation exists when a person not assigned to a particular space uses that space as if they were living there.
  • Guests should not be allowed to sleep in any public, common spaces within the residential community, including but not limited to lobbies, study rooms, parlors, or classrooms.
  • Guests should not be allowed to sleep in any bed space not belonging to the resident responsible for their visit.
  • Residents are responsible for the actions of their guests, and are required to accompany them at all times while they are in the hall, apartment, or house. Residents must escort their guests in and out of their residence.
  • Guests must be at least seventeen (17) years of age. Babysitting is prohibited at all times. Guests under the age of seventeen (17) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
  • The resident is responsible for being in possession of keys and/or University ID at all times. Residents are not allowed to give access to the halls by giving their keys/ID to a guest or another resident. Guests are not allowed to enter the residence hall/room without being escorted. Unauthorized possession, duplication, or use of keys to any University premises is prohibited.

Am I allowed to paint my room or hang curtains/posters?

Painting is not allowed; however, decorations are allowed as longs as they are not permanent or cause any damage to the walls, furniture, windows, etc. Curtains are allowed but must meet the following requirements: only store bought, flame retardant curtains or drapes and can only be hung in front of the window.

Safety and Security

Is there a curfew, what about safety.

In addition to key or ID access to buildings, security cameras are placed throughout the residential community.  While Southeastern offers a safe environment for its students and visitors, staying aware and responsible are key factors for protection against crime.  Students should always lock their room doors, walk with a friend at night, and take other precautions to ensure personal safety.

Pricing, Fees, and Credits

Can i allow my financial aid and/ or scholarship to cover the cost of my housing, what are the credit policies for the university housing application fee.

The $100 processing fee (and $50 late fee if applicable) is non-refundable.

What are the credit policies for the University Housing prepayment?

The housing prepayment is refundable if the cancellation request is made in writing prior to June 15 th for the Fall semester and November 15 th for the Spring semester. The credit will post toward any outstanding balance on the student’s LEONet account; if no balance exists, the Controller’s office will process a refund.  After these dates, prepayments are non-refundable.

What are the credit policies for room charges?

Room charges are credited if a cancellation request is submitted in writing prior to checking in to the appointed assignment. If a student chooses to cancel a housing assignment after checking in, but remains enrolled in classes, the student is not eligible for a credit of any of the charges (processing fee, prepayment, room fee). If a student resigns from the University, the student will be given credit as per the University’s refund schedule, less the processing fee and any outstanding charges. No credit will be given to any student resigning after the fifteenth class day (full summer session, eighth class day). NO CREDITS or PRORATED CREDITS are given for DISCIPLINARY REMOVAL from the residence halls or residential community. Housing charges are considered part of the University fee schedule; therefore, the University will not refund fees if a balance remains on a student’s account.

What happens if I cancel my University Housing application prior to paying my fees?

The My College Roomie Software

Within MCR, students can create a profile; complete a compatibility questionnaire; view potential roommate matches; and reach out to communicate with matches. MCR is a tool for students. If there happens to be an opening in your room, which most often occurs when a student leaves the university or changes their assignment, housing staff do not use profiles or questionnaires to match students when filling vacancies. If you have a vacancy in your room, it could be filled at any time.

Spring 2024 Housing Assignments

All students who resided on campus for the Fall 2023 semester will remain in their assignments for the Spring 2024 semester. All students who need on-campus housing for the Spring 2024 semester should contact our office for details of the assignment process. All Spring semester housing assignments are done on an as-needed basis for students.

**This step MUST be completed in order to participate in the first round of group room selection.

Special Interest Housing Room Selection

Students who wish to or are eligible to participate in one of our special interest housing room selections should complete the housing process, steps 1 through 3, as all other students do. If a student plans to participate in one of the below housing selections, they should indicate that on their housing application.

The special interest housing room selection options for 2024-2025 will be:

  • Honors Students:  Active upperclassmen students in the Honors Program who wish to live in Honors Building apartments should participate in this process. Students eligible for this process will be notified of eligibility and housing selection time. To be eligible, students must be active members of the KU Honors Program and indicate their eligibility when completing the housing application.
  • Military Affiliated Housing: Active upperclassmen students who receive military benefits at KU are eligible for this process. Students eligible for this process will be notified of eligibility and housing selection time. To be eligible, students must be actively recognized as military affiliated students at KU and indicate their eligibility when completing the housing application.
  • Gender Inclusive:  Active upperclassmen students who wish to room with students of a different sex should participate in this process. Students eligible for this process will be notified of eligibility and housing selection time. To be eligible, students must form a roommate group of mixed sexes and indicate their eligibility when completing the housing application. More information regarding this process, including spaces available and group size, can be found on the  Gender Inclusive Housing  page.
  • Mathematics and Computer Science Scholars Community: Current scholarship recipients will be placed in this community through this process.
  • Social Justice Community: Active upperclassmen students who wish to be an active member of the social justice community should participate in this process. To be eligible, students must complete the special interest housing application and indicate their eligibility when completing the housing application.
  • Freedom Place Community: Active upperclassmen students who wish to be an active member of the Freedom Place community (a community committed to a substance free lifestyle) should participate in this process. To be eligible, students must complete the special interest housing application and indicate their interest when completing the housing application.
  • Neurodiverse Community: Active upperclassmen students who wish to be an active member of the Neurodiverse Community (a community open to all residential Kutztown University students who identify as being neurodiverse, whether traditionally diagnosed or self-diagnosed) should participate in this process. To be eligible, students must complete the special interest housing application and indicate their interest when completing the housing application.
  • Physical Sciences Community: Active upperclassmen students who wish to be an active member of the Physical Sciences Community (a community open to all residential Kutztown University students with a major or an interest in the physical sciences) should participate in this process. To be eligible, students must complete the special interest housing application and indicate their interest when completing the housing application.

Returning Student Complete Group Room Selection

This process is for groups of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 students who wish to reside together. Groups of students must be mutually matched as roommates in My College Roomie prior to the roommate matching deadline.

All students who wish to be assigned a room selection time must be a member of a COMPLETED group of either 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 students, depending on preferred housing preference.

Please note, we are encouraging all first-year students to form groups of five or six students. Our two and four-person suites and apartments are always the most popular to be selected in room selection. Since room selection times are determined by the group’s number of COMPLETED credits, we encourage our first-year students to have a plan in the event that they cannot select housing to accommodate a group of 4.

All members of the group must be of the same sex, as recognized by KU, to make their group complete.

Students eligible for this round of room selection will receive their selection time, via e-mail, after the roommate matching process closes. Selection will be held after Spring Break through their MyKUHousing account. Selection times are prioritized based on the group's total  completed  credits.

Returning Student Individual Room Selection

This process is for current students who do not participate successfully in selecting an assignment during Group Room Selection or are not part of a complete group. These students will be able to select into remaining available beds through MyKUHousing by group/individual appointment times for online selection with an anticipated selection occurring between April 2nd - 4th, 2023. Current students who have completed the housing application process but do not select an assignment during one of the above processes AND students required to live on campus but did not complete the application process will be assigned by the Housing Office. Auto-assignments are typically completed by the middle of April. Students will receive an e-mail notification when assignments have been completed.

Fall 2024 Room Selection (Incoming Students)

Incoming students for the Fall 2024 semester who are living on campus should:

  • Complete the Advanced Registration Deposit to Kutztown University  OR
  • If wanting to live off campus, complete a Residency Exception Request (If not applicable, housing will be assigned.)

2024-2025 Academic Year Room Selection (Incoming Students)

The timeline for the 2024-2025 academic year room selection for incoming students is as follows:

Step 1: Make Housing Decision

· If living on-campus, complete My College Roomie profile* (Opens April 1st)

· If living off-campus, complete residency exception (Opens April 1st)

Step 2: If interested, complete special interest housing application

Step 3: Create roommate pair**

Step 4: Completed and approved special interest housing applications will be manually assigned by the Housing Office at this time. When complete, you will receive an email.

Step 4: Complete room selection during assigned selection time.

Group Room Selection for Incoming Students

This process will be available  June 18, 2024 at 9:00 am through June 20, 2024 at 3:00 pm. Complete roommate pairs will be able to select from available rooms at the start of this selection time. They will be eligible to select their room through their MyKUHousing account any time throughout this selection period. Room availability will be on a first come, first served basis.

Individual Room Selection for Incoming Students

This process will be available  June 25, 2024 at 9:00am through June 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm . Students without a roommate selection or students who did not select in round 1 will be able to select from available rooms at the start of this selection time. They will be eligible to select their room through their MyKUHousing account any time throughout this selection period. Room availability will be on a first come, first served basis.

Incoming students who are required to live on campus but did not participate in a housing selection process will be assigned by the Housing Office. Auto-assignments are typically completed by July 14 . An assignment will be completed for all students who did not participate in self-room selection. Students will be able to view their assignment on their MyKUHousing account.

Click here to learn more about Transfer Student On-Campus Living.

All roommate matching will be done in My College Roomie. Students received their log-in information for My College Roomie to their KU e-mail. Usernames are the same as students' KU username (without the @live.kutztown.edu portion), and passwords are unique to each individual.

Roommate Matching Steps:

1. Log-In to My College Roomie, create individual profile, AND answer the questionnaire. Both portions of the questionnaire, the question and its extremes, as well as the comfort zone slider, must be completed.

2. Review your matches, become friends with potential roommate matches, and begin communicating with fellow students who you believe may be a good match for you. You must first be Friends with someone before being able to send them a Roommate Request . Your friend will need to accept your Friend Request in order for you to be able to unlock Friendship privileges with that user.

3. Once you are sure you know the student you wish to live with, you can send them a Roommate Request in multiple ways. One way is via the Home Page: Within your lists of Matches, Friends, New, and Recently Viewed, you can send a Roommate Request simply by clicking the "Roommate Request" button next to each user. The second way to send a friend request is within a User's Profile: You can add them as a Roommate simply by clicking the "Roommate Request" button within their profile.

All room selection will be done in students' MyKUHousing accounts. Students should use their KU credentials to log into their MyKUHousing account.

Room Selection Process:

Prior to room selection start time, students are encouraged to:

  • Log into their MyKUHousing Account.
  • Go to Room Selection Tab.
  • Select a Room/Suite
  • Confirm that the listed roommates are correct. No adjustments can be made to groups once room selection begins. Adjustments need to be completed in My College Roomie 24 hours PRIOR to the start of room selection.

At the scheduled time for room selection, students select a room by:

  • Log into MyKUHousing Account.
  • Confirm that the listed roommates are correct.
  • Click “Find Available Rooms.” – A list of available rooms/suites/apartments appropriate for your group size will appear.
  • When you find the room/suite/apartment you would like, click “Select Room.”
  • Confirm your roommates are in the beds you all wish to be living in. Click on “I agree- Submit My Room Selection.” You will not be able to change this assignment yourself once you select.

A great place to start would be the Architectural Studies research guide . There, you will find pages with tips on how to search for books, ebooks, and articles. You might also find the Building Research Flowchart to be helpful.

To find out which databases are the best for architectural studies, go to the AZ Databases page , click the drop down box that says "All Subjects" and select "Architecture." The "Best Bets" are at the top of the page in the yellow box. Start anywhere you like!

For additional assistance, please contact a reference librarian here .

On-Campus Housing

8 reasons to live on campus this fall, 1. it’s convenient.

Why worry about finding time to commute to school and finding parking every day? You’re already focused on your work and getting enough sleep. Plus, when you’re right on campus it’s easier to be part of clubs, sports and everything else that happens on campus. You can also easily walk to the many events and performances that Keene State offers. And, with great dining options close by, it’s easy to grab a tasty bite in between classes with friends.

2. There’s Less to Worry About

Don’t want to worry about the maintenance, bills and things you can’t plan for that often come with living in your own place? On campus, it’s all taken care of for you.

3. Safety Officers are Close

Your safety is always the top priority of the college. The Keene State College Campus Safety Department is close by, and our officers are dedicated to serving students.

4. More Flexibility If Changes Occur

As we continue to navigate the changing circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, being flexible and adaptable to changes is necessary. If you live on campus and a change occurs during the year when students need to move to fully remote learning, you have more flexibility financially with a mid-year change than with off-campus housing.

5. Easier Access to Academic Support

In and outside of the classroom, we’re here to help you enjoy your experience and succeed. This is true in our residence halls, too. When you’re surrounded by fellow students, you have the opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other, no matter how informally. Many of the people you live with may be taking the same classes, or have taken them before. Friends can be a tremendous academic resource and being able to visit a student next door to ask a question is valuable. And, when people come to you, explaining something you’ve mastered is rewarding as well as helpful to those who need it (and teaching things actually helps you understand them better).

6. Connect with New People, Make Lifelong Friends

Living on campus makes it easy to meeting new people, and events will be much more accessible when you are living right on campus. While college is about learning and expanding your horizons, it is also about making friends and having fun. Living on campus will definitely make both of these things happen for you.

Students say that the people you’ll have the opportunity to become closest with are often the people in your residence hall! Many find their best friends throughout the rest of college in their first-year residence hall. For everyone else, living on campus provides a tight knit community of people and can always help you expand your social circle.

Living with a diverse group of people also expands your social knowledge outside of the classroom. You have a chance to get to know students from all over the world and people with incredible and varied life experiences.

When you live in a residence hall, you will be able to really bond with your new friends, forming lasting friendships with people who can help you, be with you during the happy times, and be witness to all the firsts that college inevitably brings.

7. Save Money

There is a common misconception that living on campus costs more than living off campus. Consider this: When you live on campus, you save money on internet, gas and utility bills. You also can save money on furnishing an apartment. You can end up spending a lot less than you can if you live in an off-campus apartment.

8. Find Students with Similar Interests

Whether you love science, are dedicated to environmental sustainability, or are in the Honors program, you can choose from a variety of living/learning communities where you’ll live and learn with students who have your interests.

All of our on-campus students are supported by professional residential life and housing staff who have been trained to both assist students individually and to develop communities where safety, respect for others, and positive living/learning environments are the top priorities. Our office is dedicated to providing students with a safe, clean, comfortable residential community that cultivates civility and social responsibility while supporting the academic mission of the College (see Keene State College’s Mission & Values statement ).

Being a residential college, Keene State emphasizes the educational value of living with people who may be different from one another. This includes a commitment to respecting diversity in others and being able to expect the same in return.

Without a doubt, living in a residence hall will provide you with the best opportunity to take advantage of the campus environment to its fullest extent. We’re sure you’ll find that with our many living options there’s something for everyone - especially since at no other time in your life will you have the chance to live with and learn from such a diverse group of your peers!
