Residential Life

Move-in & move-out:, welcome to marshall college, uc san diego we are so glad you'll be staying with us.

Fall 2024 Move-In

The 2024-25 housing contract begins Saturday, September 21, 2024.  General move-in is offered from Wednesday, September 18 - September 22 and also provides additional week zero (September 23 - 28) move-in. The first day of classes is September 26th!  Make sure you are watching for information at your UC San Diego email. For more information regarding your housing contract, please visit the Housing, Dining and Hospitality's Undergraduate Housing website .

*As we get information from the HDH Undergrad Housing department, we will update the corresponding information for the following year's housing contracts. For the most up-to-date information about living on campus, Move-in, and contract dates, visit the HDH website.

Myroomassignment information, what is myroomassignment  , this is launched through the   housing portal   to access your assignment information; view roommates and suite/apartment-mates; and select your move-in and date time to arrive on campus., each housing area/college will have a designated "start date" as the release of assignments go out on a rolling basis.  see the information below to help gauge on what date you can start to login to view your assignment and select your move-in date and time.   the dates below reflect being assigned to a space and the appropriate housing area/college.  it is possible for some students to be housed outside of their college of registration or housing area.   please do not attempt to login before your designated "start date" below.  you will receive a 'no access' page at login.  , an email to all active housing contract holders will go out no later than 4pm on monday, august 19th to your ucsd email account with your housing area/college designation and access start date as a reminder. we are excited to see you in the fall.

If you have not been assigned your housing assignment, please make sure to check your spam folder if nothing is there, email [email protected]  and [email protected].

* all students  must select a move-in date and time  by 11:59pm on friday, september 6, 2024. if you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be assigned to you., move-in date & time selection.

To help make the move-in process as smooth as possible, we have provided the following tips:

  • MyRoomAssignment   launches based on the schedule above.  Once you are able to login, you can review your assignment information and select your move-in date and time.  All students   must select a move-in date and time   by 11:59PM on Friday, September 6, 2024.  If you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be assigned to you.
  • If you are a current summer housing resident who opted in for extended housing --- you will move to your permanent space on September 13. Room charges apply as indicated for those that opt-in to this program.
  • We have a few additional programs that may have a September 13 move-in date and time and options are available to select from.  The cost is $50/day and is either billed to your student account or you are sponsored by a program/department that will cover the cost.
  • General Move-In   --- Takes place beginning September 18 with dates and times through September 22. *
  • Week Zero Move-In   -- Takes place September 23 with dates through September 27.
  • Late Move-In   --- Students that have a need to arrive later (after September 27), please connect with your housing community's Residence Life Office.
  • Plan accordingly.   There are a number of available move-in date and times to select from each day.  Please be willing to have options as we cannot have everyone move-in at the same time.  If the time you wanted is not available, please select another.  We cannot have all students in a housing community arrive on the same day.   There are no after hours move-in available. Please plan that if you are on a flight arriving later at night you will need to secure a move-in date/time for the next day.
  • Move-In date and times   will vary by housing/area and college and do not affect another area.  For example, a student living at Revelle cannot select date/times available to those at Muir College.  Most housing areas will roughly offer times starting at 8:30am/9:00am through 5:00pm.  Some areas may go a little longer on particular days.  You will be able to choose from what is available and can adjust it as needed before September 6, 2024 at 11:59PM.

Moving In & Checking In- How does it all work?

We are excited to see you soon and have prepared this easy guide to set you up for a smooth and successful move-in..

  • First things first: Go to the My Room Assignment page to view your room assignment information.  All students  must select a move-in date and time  by 11:59PM on Friday, September 6, 2024. If you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be assigned to you.
  • Remember to read and indicate agreement to the Housing Assertions before accessing your Room Assignment information.
  • Your assigned room and bedspace
  • Your campus mailing address (different than your assigned room and building)
  • Your Move-in Date and Time
  • Your Electronic Lock PIN CODE

Planning & Preparation for a Successful Move-in

  • Pack essential items only for your initial arrival. After settling in your new space, purchase non-essential items online and ship them to campus through the Amazon  Center for easy pickup. You can also plan to visit our campus Target store to conveniently shop on-site or pick up an order once you’ve assessed your space on campus.
  • Use rolling luggage and pack smaller boxes that are easy to carry.
  • Reminder - There are limited elevators in the Residence Halls and no elevators in the apartment buildings.
  • Your mailing address and mailbox number will be listed on your Qwik Pass .
  • Note that your room assignment (building name and suite or apartment number) is NOT your mailing address.
  • Download a QR code reader on your mobile device to quickly access information exchanged throughout the move-in process.
  • Download a map app (e.g., Google Maps) on your mobile device to help navigate around campus.
  • Remember your Qwik Pass! Print a copy or take a screenshot of your pass to show campus staff on your move-in day, along with a valid photo ID.

On Your Self-Scheduled Move-In Day

  • Arrive on campus well before your self-schedule time slot. Allow yourself ample time to navigate campus and account for traffic or other delays.

TMC Check-in Step One: KEYS

Check-in will be located inside Angela's Space, located on the 4th floor of OceanView Terrace .

  • Photo ID or Keycard
  • A parking pass/map is to be used for unloading ONLY
  • MOVE-IN PARTIES : Please drop off your student at the designated area for check-in and return to Pangea parking lot while you wait for your student to pick up their keys and a parking pass. Without the parking pass, you will not be allowed access to the lot to unload.

TMC Check-in Step Two: UNLOADING

  • Once you have checked in, head over with your move-in party and your parking pass to the designated lot to unload.
  • Please be mindful that there will be more students than carts; we highly encourage you to come prepared with a dolly or small cart of your own if possible, as this will ease the lines.
  • There is no parking grace period prior to the beginning of the quarter. Permits must be obtained when parking on the weekdays. Day permits can be purchased at the Pangea Parking Structure or the Hopkins Parking Structure.
  • Please note that areas of the campus will be very congested with move-in traffic, especially during the weekends, so expect some delays and/or limited accessibility to parking adjacent to the living areas. Per residence life policy, after move-in, only residents of a building and building staff will be permitted to enter that building.

What should I bring?

Bring your own linens such as towels, pillow(s), mattress pad including bedding to fit an extra-long twin bed (36" x 80"). Personal care items are important for your self-care, bring personal items such as toiletries, hair care products, over the counter medications, and hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes. Don't forget your school supplies such as your computer/laptop/tablet, headphones, backpack, a non-halogen desk lamp, and a power surge protector. San Diego is a temperate climate, in support of sustainability efforts, our communities do not have air conditioning, so make sure to bring a fan for the few days our temperatures are over 75 degrees.

Once you receive your room assignment in August, it’s a GREAT idea to check with roommates and figure out who will bring larger items to share. Some residents like to purchase items together once they move in. Examples include: mini refrigerator (smaller than five cubic feet with a safe UL-approved electrical system) microwave television printer mini-vacuum Bike Lock – U Shaped (see   UCPD website ) Emergency Kit and basic first aid supplies

Residence Life

Move-in 2024 is almost here.

Welcome!  Review the information on the HDH Move-In page  , the FAQs below, and the Sixth College Move-In Map thoroughly.

Direct any questions that you have about your Housing Contract to [email protected] .

Direct any questions that you may have regarding medical housing accommodations to [email protected] .

All other questions about the residential experience may be directed to [email protected] .

We are committed to fostering a positive and welcoming environment for everyone.  Move-in can be a difficult time for students, staff, and families.  We kindly ask everyone to treat our staff with the same professionalism and respect that you expect in return. Disrespectful or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Together, let's create a collaborative and courteous atmosphere for all. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Pre-Move-In Steps

To do ASAP:

1). Submit your Student Identification photo so your ID, which is also your residence key, will be ready when you check in.

2)   Choose your move-in time on the Undergraduate Housing Portal  when it opens for Sixth on August 17, 2024 , but no later than  11:59PM on Friday, September 6, 2024 .  If you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be assigned to you.  There are no additional times other than those provided on your Housing Portal.  We understand that every student and family has unique needs, but we also have to move in 2,242 students.  No exceptions to our move-in hours will be made. Our first move-in slot is 8:30A and our last move-in slot is at 4:15P so that we may be completely closed by 5P.

3) Review the FAQs below and  move-in map .

4) Condense what you plan to bring. Check out this  virtual tour  and learn what furniture (and its dimensions) is generally included in each space. Ask yourself if it will be worth hauling to the 14th floor of a building when you move in-or when you move out.  Future you will be thankful.   Double and triple room dimensions in Sixth are about 10’x10’, although individual room sizes vary.

How do I understand my room assignment?

Your room assignment will look something like this:  CT-0104-1c.

CT stands for Catalyst

0104 means that you are on the 1st floor, apartment 104.

1 means that you are in bedroom 1

C means that you are in the lofted space in that bedroom.

Other building codes include:  KA:  Kaleidoscope, TY:  Tapestry, and MO:  Mosaic.  Locate them on this map :

How do I select my move-In date & time?

To help make the move-in process as smooth as possible, we have provided the following tips:

  • MyRoomAssignment   launches based on the schedule above.  Once you are able to login, you can review your assignment information and select your move-in date and time.    All students   must select a move-in date and time   by 11:59PM on Friday, September 6, 2024 .  If you do not select a move-in date and time, one will be assigned to you.
  • If you are a   current summer housing resident  who opted in for extended housing --- you will move to your permanent space on September 12. Room charges apply as indicated for those that opt-in to this program.
  • There are specific programs that may have a September 13 move-in date and time and options are available to select from.  Those programs are repsonsible for coordinating and communicating with HDH.
  • General Move-In   --- Takes place beginning September 18 with dates and times through September 22.
  • Week Zero Move-In   -- Takes place September 23 with dates through September 27.
  • Late Move-In   --- Students that have a need to arrive later (after September 27), please email [email protected].
  • Move-In date and times   will vary by housing/area. For example, hours in Revelle may be different than hours in Sixth because the populations they serve are dramatically different in size.

Muir College Room Selection 2024

Please check the hdh undergrad housing website for the most up-to-date room selection information..

Note: If you are a prospective resident, more information will be coming soon. This is for current Muir residents and LGBTQIA+ LLC ONLY.

Eligibility & Housing Options

For Muir-registered students, you will have the opportunity to participate in room selection during Winter Quarter. At this point, you will have received an email regarding your eligibility to live on campus. If you are guaranteed housing for the next year, you will be participating in this selection process.

Muir students participating in room selection will have the option of choosing Tamarack or Tuolumne Apartments. Apartment spaces only contain singles and doubles and features a capacity of 4-6 residents. Please refer to our room tours for more information on each space.

Residents will have the option to opt into gender-inclusive housing or apply for a Living Learning Community:

  • Gender-inclusive housing completely ignores gender preferences when assigning spaces, meaning that you can be housed with students of any gender. This includes apartment mates/suite mates as well as roommates in doubles/triples.
  • Muir houses the LGBTQIA+ LLC. If you would like to continue from your first year or would like to join for the first time, you will be allowed to apply for the option, even if you are registered in another college.
  • If you choose to apply for another LLC and get accepted, you will be living in the college where the LLC is hosted.

Timeline

  • February 21 - February 28   - Eligible continuing students submit a Continuing Student Housing Application as part of the 2024 Room Selection process; Students with no housing guarantee can express on-campus interest for the 2024-25 academic year.
  • March 5 - March 12   - Housing contracts will be issued to those that submitted a Continuing Student Housing Application by February 28 due date.
  • March 6 - March 18   - Students who completed the 2024-25 housing contract including the $450 prepayment can apply for optional Living-Learning Communities, I-House or opt into Gender Inclusive Housing.
  • April 3   - Students who are accepted into a Living-Learning Community, or I-House must opt out if no longer interested (still able to participate in the next phase in their Room Selection Community).
  • April  11  - Room Selection lottery date & time  and roommate group PIN for Room Selection Sign-Up will be sent to your UC San Diego email first.  Then available through the Housing Portal.
  • April 20 -    Vacancy viewer available online (login to the Housing Portal) for Muir College
  • April 24   - Muir College (including LGBTQIA+ LLC) Room Selection Sign-Up
  • April 25   - Revelle College Room Selection Sign-Up
  • May 1   - Dining plan option selection begins & apartment-mate/roommate information in the Housing Portal available
  • May 13   - Last day for Room Selection students to select their dining plan until mid/late August when MyRoomAssignment opens for the 2024-25 academic year for move-in and assignments. Failure to select a dining plan will result in HDH assigning one to you.
  • May 13   - Last day to see current apartment-mate/roommate information until MyRoomAssignment re-opens for the 2024-25 academic year for move-in and assignments.

If you do not select a space on your designated Room Selection Sign-Up date (see above) or space is not available, you will have two options:

  • Choose to be on the Delayed Assignment List (see below)
  • Choose to cancel based on the Cancellation Policy.

Room Selection FAQs

  • Apartment spaces are balanced between singles and doubles. However, singles tend to be higher in demand so they are usually selected quickly.
  • Yes! They must be same gender (unless you're signing up for gender-inclusive housing) and must be Muir students. LLC residents must choose other LLC residents as roommates or apartment-mates. You can form a group for just a room or for the whole apartment.
  • When you receive your room selection time, it is recommended that your group has a leader (preferably a trusted person with the earliest time) who you will share your roommate PIN with.
  • By sharing your roommate PIN with your group leader, you are allowing them to assign you on their behalf.
  • Tuolumne apartment units contain either 1 double and 2 singles or 1 double and 3 singles.
  • All Tamarack units contain 2 doubles and 2 singles.
  • A room change interest list will open up within the first few days of Fall Quarter where you can submit a request. While this does not guarantee a room change immediately, an offer will be made to you once a space in Muir College becomes available.
  • Absolutely! Roommate groups and PINs are completely optional. You will have to sign yourself up at the allotted lottery time.
  • This probably means that all single bedspaces have been taken. You can either select a double space or choose not to sign up for a space.
  • There will be an opportunity after the room selection date to receive a refund of your prepayment and to opt out of the room selection process (meaning you will be living off campus next year)
  • If you do not opt out, you will be considered a delayed assignment and your room assignment will be selected for you depending on the open bedspaces available.
