The Guru of cloud learning

When working in a Cloud company, we have to be up-to-date with our skills all the time, show that we are technically capable of solving problems and that there is no one better than us. A Cloud Guru has really been a Guru who accompanies us on this path of generating trust in our clients.

A Cloud Guru works as a guide that accompanies your path towards certifications. It has an infinity of lessons (+ 14k!) Focused especially on Cloud Computing, either for AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, among others. They are the ideal accompaniment to arrive at the exam confident and calm, because thanks to the Labs and Playgrounds it allows you to practice everything you need until you feel really ready. The teachers are very clear when explaining.

Everything has a price. A Cloud Guru is not free (but it has a free trial) and the prices are per learner, they do not have a plan for companies that allows them to lower costs by creating more users to, for example, help their team of collaborators to become certified.

The No 1 Learning Platform For All Things Cloud

In the beginning, I didn't like the fact that Linux Academy was being merged with A Cloud Guru. We were more interested in Linux courses and materials but ACG proved that it is an amazing multi-dimensional school and has since been the best learning platform not only in Linux and Cloud, but also numerous other topics.

ACG's introduction of the Playground and live sandboxes was so exciting and beneficial to students and put ACG far ahead of all the other competitors in the market.

We started with Linux Academy and it was acquired by ACG; While it was great news, we had to go through a timely transition process. Now that ACG has been acquired by Pluralsight, I really hope that we will not have to go through the same long process again.

Expensive and not up to date anymore

The overall experience has not been positive. I had to pay a large sum for signing up for the platform and eventually ended up failing few exams for which I had bought the subscription for. I also feel that the support leaves a lot to be desired.

The A cloud guru platform peaked between 2015-2018 when AWS certifications were really easy and every certification did not rely on scenario based questions. The platform has really not been updated well and it has lost its sheen in comparison to other more detailed and organized instructors like[SENSITIVE CONTENT],[SENSITIVE CONTENT] and[SENSITIVE CONTENT]. The only USP going for this platform now is its name based on its popularity in the past.

There are many issues with the the A cloud guru platform but the major ones are how expensive it is as well as how some of the courses as well as exams have not been updated for quite sometime. I believe A cloud guru buying linux academy took some of the best instructors away from linux academy platform. I am not sure how it will work out now that PluralSight has taken it over. We all can just wait and see.

Reason for choosing A Cloud Guru

I bought it because of its original hype which I absolutely regret now.

Great experience!! Easy to navigate UI with options of login thru 3rd party providers like google, fb etc. Course content are really exam focused with lots of hands on labs & exam tips. Would appreciate if the prices for subscription goes down especially pro plus which enables the cloud play environ

The platform itself is great on the web.

the Android app is poorly done and too buggy to use for any extended period of time

Comprehensive collection of all things cloud

Hands on labs were a standout and allowed me to trial some cloud based solutions I haven't before. Video courses are engaging and easy to understand presenter.

It was targeted more for beginner to low intermediate i felt so I quickly hit a plateau at what I could use A Cloud Guru for my own study goals.

Good for personal learning

I used it for a while under a personal license for my own upskilling. Good variety of courses and quality of labs / playgrounds.

Some content seems outdated and so should be updated or removed.

Better variety of courses for what i specifically needed

There are a lot of courses, and all of them are up to date.

Some of the courses are way too long, and watching a lot of videos could be tired.

The best way to get certified on AWS

I am currently studying from the platform to take the AWS Solution Architect Associate certification and the level of granularity it has to explain features of services such as S3 for example is incredible.

It is very intuitive, the explanations are truly complete and reliable. It is certainly much easier to obtain the certifications studying from this platform.

Perhaps a better support in other languages of the aws courses could be a point to improve.

Japan’s SmartHR raises $140M Series E as strong demand for HR tech boosts its ARR to $100M

Team work and human resource management concept. Top view of various wood cubes with people icons.

SmartHR , a cloud-based human resources and labor management software startup, said on Monday that it has raised $140 million in a funding round led by KKR and Teachers’ Ventures Growth, an investment arm of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, with participation from existing investors.

The Series E round, which comes three years after the company raised a $142.5 million (15.6 billion JPY) Series D at a valuation of $1.6 billion , is the latest indicator that investors are still keen to back tech that helps companies more efficiently manage their biggest cost base: staff.

The company declined to comment on its current valuation.

Co-founded in 2015 by Kensuke Naito and Shoji Miyata, SmartHR has been seeing strong demand for its SaaS platform, which helps enterprises manage and streamline human resources and operations, in the past couple of years. Its annual recurring revenue (ARR) reached $100 million as of February 2024, a company spokesperson told TechCrunch, which signifies a decent uptick from the $80 million in total revenue it reported in FY 2023.

That growth is in line with the robust demand for HR tech that we’ve been seeing in other parts of the world. U.S.-based Rippling, which SmartHR says is its closest comparable company in terms of products and strategy, saw its ARR double to $350 million in 2023, per The Information . Gusto, which offers payroll management software and services, told TechCrunch its revenue had crossed $500 million by April 2023; and Deel, which manages payroll for companies across international lines, this March said that it had clocked ARR of more than $500 million.

There’s also a mountain of venture capital in this market, estimated to be worth a whopping $81.84 billion by 2032, per Fortune Business Insights . Rippling, one of the biggest startups in the space, has raised about $1.4 billion, per a spokesperson at Rippling, and said it was valued at $13.5 billion following a $200 million funding round in April. Gusto has raised nearly $750 million, Crunchbase data says, and it is worth around $9.6 billion, per PitchBook. And Deel, worth $12 billion , has raised a total of $679 million, according to Crunchbase.

And you have investors throwing cash at smaller startups attacking nearly every facet of traditional HR: Remofirst, which helps its customers hire globally without setting up local offices, recently raised $25 million ; Palm takes a mobile-first approach to improving the HR tech experience in MENA, and last year got $5 million ; Compa in January landed $10 million to build its platform that provides recruiters aggregated compensation data so they can be more competitive when hiring; and Legion last month raised $50 million to automate hourly staff management for companies.

SmartHR’s peers in Japan include back-office software players such as Works Human Intelligence, freee and Moneyforward. The company sets itself apart by “obtaining the latest and most accurate employee data through labor management, which positions it as a system of record in HR,” its spokesperson said, adding that leveraging this employee data allows it to deploy new products rapidly.

The startup said the new capital will go toward developing new solutions and hiring, as well as organic and inorganic (read: M&A) growth strategies. It currently has about 1,000 employees.

Its previous backers include Light Street Capital, Sequoia Capital Global Equities and Whale Rock.
