Artworks have majorly been written about from within the art world. Buildings are predominantly talked about from the architect’s narrative. Art and architecture theorists face insider’s syndrome as they get captivated in the mechanics of production. While this approach is definitely of consequence, it submerges possibility of understanding the works through other approaches. The way people receive a built space or an artwork is the reality of it against the conceptual ideas of the artist. This dissertation explores the validity and functioning of reception with respect to urban phenomenon of graffiti. Graffiti inherently encompasses space, owing to the nature of its canvas of public property. Thus, forms a connection between two disciplines of art and architecture. The case example is bound to New Delhi.

The first publically accessible deliverable the UAL team has led on for Graffolution. Others will be available in due course. This report (D2.1) builds the starting point and foundation of Graffolution's research activities. It delivers information from an extensive literature review focusing on the extent of graffiti vandalism in Europe with specific concentration on public areas and transport. Early insights showed that the available data on the extent of graffiti vandalism is very fragmented which makes a consistent European wide analysis challenging.
