How to give a speech for teachers' day- a guide for students and teachers

A teachers’ day speech is a special occasion speech. It is a speech where you acknowledge your teachers, gurus or mentors for being an absolute human guide and encouraging you to dream. On this special day, you express your gratitude towards them, it can be in the form of a speech or stage performances.

‘When one teaches, two learn.’  Robert Heinlein

Teachers’ Day is that one event which not only excites the students, but the teachers as well. It is an important day for the students, as it gives them a chance to recognize the efforts put in by their teachers to ensure that they get proper education and ethics in life. Likewise, the teachers also await the Teachers’ Day celebration, as their efforts get acknowledged and honoured by their students.

But why is it important to celebrate Teachers’ Day?

Teaching is considered to be the most sacred and noble professions of all, as teachers are the ones to craft the other professions.

Teachers have the ability to change the students’ life for the better. Teaching is a tough job; however, it is that one job where you can make the optimum impact on another person’s life.

However, we often tend to forget the importance teachers have in our lives. So, on this day you make them realize how important they are in your life along with this you appreciate their existence, their efforts and their guidance.

How to appreciate your teachers or students in your teachers' day speech

Not only students, but teachers also express their views to the students because their profession is nothing without their students.

If you are looking for tips on how you can draft a heart touching speech for teachers’ day, don’t worry we’ve got some suggestions for you (teacher or student).

But remember, the only key to give a heartwarming speech is Authenticity.

importance of being authentic or genuine in your teachers' day speech

Tips to Remember Before you Draft your Teachers’ Day Speech:

1)  appreciate, do not exaggerate.

When you give a speech on occasions like teachers’ day, it demands you to be authentic while sharing your experiences or showing gratitude. Being authentic will help you make your speech pure and impressive at the same time.

Try to articulate your feelings in the simplest form which will make your speech sound genuine.

Exaggeration in a speech might make you lose your credibility, making it sound unreal.

In case of students giving a speech for their teachers, you can appreciate their efforts, praise them, or the way in which they helped you garner knowledge, improve your skills, grow confidence as well as to help you choose the right path to success.

In short, when thinking about the best way to thank your teacher/s, consider what exceptional they did or above their call of duty? How did they inspire you or change your thinking? Did they inspire some new academic avocation or activity? What skills will you hold dear in future?

You are basically trying to acknowledge the efforts that your teachers have put in. So try and make your acknowledgement sound genuine and speak from your heart and not just for the sake of saying it.

In case of teachers giving a speech on teachers’ day, you can talk more on the lines of how your students have been motivating you or how happy you are to see their efforts to do better everyday, for instance, showing their interests in the extracurricular activities or competitions.

Pro tip- Do not overdo it, for instance over praising your teachers or students, the listeners will understand it is not coming from your heart.

2) Dedicate your Thoughts

The speaker should be expressive about one’s emotions. Your speech is dedicated to the event of Teachers’ day, so everything you speak has to support the event.

For students giving a speech on teachers’ day, the speaker can dedicate the speech mainly to acknowledge his teachers, communicate gratitude towards them and applaud them for being a beacon of light in their lives.

For teachers giving a speech on teachers’ day, you can talk more about why it is celebrated, the importance of a teacher in a student’s life, what motivates you to be a teacher.

3) The PURPOSE should be at the Heart of your Speech

One thing you need to bear in your mind is the purpose of your speech. Purpose means, why is the speech drafted or for what are you drafting the speech.

For instance, in case of students , the speech is drafted for your teachers in order to pay them a tribute or acknowledge their efforts.

Similarly, in case of teachers , your speech is drafted for the students as well the fellow teachers, so your purpose of talking would be the joy you experience while teaching or guiding your students or expressing your gratitude for the efforts the students have taken to make your day special.

Therefore, your speech needs to revolve much around teachers’ day, so that you don’t deviate from the purpose of your speech.

4) Duration of the Speech

The goal of any speaker is to make his speech memorable and at the same time the one which has a long-lasting impact.

While drafting your speech, try to keep it short and sweet, as it is more likely to hold your audiences’ attention. It also forces you to say what you mean and nothing more. Meaning, you will cover only those points that are central to your message or speech.

Stick to your topic and then draft your speech accordingly – use as few words as possible and limited anecdotes to retain your audiences’ attention without sacrificing the essential information.

Make sure the points you want to make come out clearly.

We’ve written an article on How to Deliver a 1 Minute Speech: Tips, Examples, Topics & More . Check it out to get some tips on how you can deliver a short speech.

After keeping in mind these few suggestions, the next step would be to organize your content, so that your speech flows smoothly.

Here’s an article on How to make your speech flow smoothly . You can review this article to get a better understanding regarding the same.

In order to give a clear and a structured speech, your speech needs to be divided into three parts, mainly- Introduction, Body and Conclusion.

How to Organize your Teachers’ Day Speech?

1) introduction.

An introduction can be best considered as the foundation of your speech. Just as you can’t build a building without forming its base, you cannot build your speech until and unless you don’t introduce your topic.

Introducing your topic will help you gain the audiences’ attention because you’re revealing the purpose of you standing in front of them.

The goal is to start your speech with impact and to do this, you can start by telling a story or a quote, or by asking an interesting question.

Here’s an article that we’ve written on various storytelling approaches that you can consider for your next speech.

You can start your speech with, say like a story or a quote and then connect it to the occasion of Teachers’ day or teachers in general.

For instance, a student can start his speech with a hypothetical situation, supposing a life without a teacher and then connect it to being thankful for having them in your life as torch bearers.

A teacher can start her speech by expressing her gratitude towards the program that has been organized for them along with a few lines regarding why is teachers’ day celebrated

To start your speech with a bang, you can review the article that we wrote on 15 powerful speech opening lines and how to create your own.

After choosing an impactful opening remark, the next part would be the body of your speech.

Oftentimes, more importance is given to the opening and closing remarks and everything in between is considered to be filler. This should not be the case because the body of a speech is where you offer the evidence or data to support your main message.

Taking the previous example in case of students , you can actually start expressing your gratitude towards them, recognize their efforts, explain their importance in your life, and much more.

In case of teachers , you can build your speech on the basis of how your students motivate you or how you feel about teaching as a profession, or what joy you experience while teaching.

3) Conclusion

The conclusion of your speech should restate your main message.

You basically summarize the main points of your speech which will help you to create a long-lasting impression in the minds of your audience.

You can end your speech in much the same way you began- with a story, quotation, or a question.

In case of students ending their Teachers’ day speech, you can thank your teachers for being an essential part of your journey.

In case of teachers ending their Teachers’ day speech, they can provide a bunch of advice to their students.

We have a few suggestions or tips on Ways to end your speech with maximum impact .

To make this simple, here are some points that you can cover while drafting your speech.

4 Points Students can cover in their Teachers’ Day Speech :

  • Teacher’s importance in your life
  • Acknowledge their efforts that they have put in for you
  • You can highlight the significance of teachers’ day
  • Express your gratitude towards them

Education without teachers is like a body without a soul.  “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning” , says Brad Henry. Let’s pick the first keyword over here – ‘HOPE’. A teacher is capable of returning the lost light in a student’s life. Therefore, teachers are the torch bearers who show us the path of success and walk us through the entire path until we achieve something. Today we all have gathered here to celebrate the presence of those unsung heroes without whom no profession would have existed, our teachers. It is said that parents give birth to a child, but it is the Teacher who makes sure that the child is not only raised as a tough individual, but also as an ideal citizen. We students have sometimes made it so difficult for a teacher to survive, especially if we personally find a subject boring, but it is the teacher who has made us learn a lesson which is To Never Give Up. Even if we are disrespectful, intolerant, and sometimes cross all our limits of being bearable, she still continues to motivate us.  What a teacher writes on the blackboard of life can never be erased. The values, the skills and the life lessons taught by them are something we all will hold dear in our lives. You are the reason behind our dreams and our farsightedness. You have prepared us to become the fittest and the finest individuals. Without your presence we wouldn’t have learnt how to dream. Thank you for guiding us when we were wrong and being on your toes to get the best out of us, we all are very grateful to have you all as our teachers. I would like to conclude my speech through a short poem called Teachers by Kevin William Huff that summarizes the role of a teacher in a student’s life. Teachers Inspire a love of knowledge and truth As you light the path which leads our youth For our future brightens with each lesson your teach Each smile you lengthen Each goal you help reach For the dawn of each poet, each philosopher and king Begins with a teacher And the wisdom they bring

“There’s no word in the language I revere more than teacher. My heart sings when a kid refers to me as his teacher, and it always has. I’ve honored myself and the entire family of man by becoming a teacher.”  —Pat Conroy, Author It is said that Teachers have got their designation because of the existence of students, who are taught lessons for life. Welcoming the Principal, my fellow teachers and my dear students. It gives me immense pleasure to thank each and every student present here for putting up such a lovely program. We teachers feel highly privileged to have students like you all, so I would like to dedicate this day to all our students. Teaching for me is one of those careers, where you learn something new every day as well as impart knowledge and skills to train individuals and make them ready to face the real world. We really appreciate all the support that you’ve been giving us over the years and continuously reminding us about the value of our work and our potential to impact your lives for the greater good. In short, your support helps us remain mindful of our ultimate purpose and hold on to the passion that fuels our fire.  This special day reminds me of my own gurus and their impact on my life. I remember one of my teachers telling me this, “Beyond the undone and unseen lies the unachieved.” Meaning, to do something that nobody has done or seen and that’s when you will achieve what nobody has. To achieve something extraordinary you need to conquer the 3 D’s- Desire, Determination and Discipline.  Desire means being passionate about something you love.  Determination refers to being dedicated towards something that you are passionate about. Discipline refers to practicing what you are determined about. As teachers, we strongly believe it is our key responsibility to dig in the foundation to construct pillars of great strength. And I truly appreciate the efforts all the teachers have been putting in so as to achieve this. Before I sign off for the day I would like to give you all a piece of advice. Each one of you is different, each one of you has a different caliber, challenge yourself and chase your dreams. There will be a time in your life when you might fail, but don’t give up. Your success lies without your level of patience. Do great for the society and help everyone possible. Never take your profession on your head because at first, you have to be a good human before becoming a good professional. Hence, I proudly say teaching for me is sacred and I revere teaching as a profession.

Practical tips for crafting an effective Best Teacher’s Day Speech

Teachers are the backbone of our society, nurturing and molding young minds to become responsible and productive members of society. As such, it is important to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication that they put into their profession. One of the most effective ways to do so is by delivering a heartfelt and memorable Teachers’ Day Speech.

Crafting a good Teachers’ Day Speech can seem daunting, but with the right mindset and approach, anyone can deliver a speech that resonates with their audience.

Here are some practical tips to help you write the best Teachers’ Day Speech:

Start with Preparation

Before you start writing your speech, take some time to gather your thoughts and prepare an outline. Identify the key points that you want to cover and the message you want to convey. It is important to have a clear idea of what you want to say and how you want to say it.

Organise the Speech

It is essential to organize your speech to ensure that it flows logically and is easy to follow. Start with an introduction that captures the audience’s attention, briefly introduce yourself and the purpose of the speech. In the body of the speech, express your gratitude, highlight your teacher’s contributions, and share personal anecdotes. In the conclusion, summarise your thoughts and reiterate your appreciation.

Duration of the Speech

When delivering a Teachers’ Day speech, it is crucial to keep it brief and to the point. An ideal Teachers’ Day speech should not exceed 10 minutes. This ensures that your speech is engaging and memorable, without being too long and tedious.

Express your gratitude to your teacher for their dedication, hard work, and contribution towards your growth and development. Highlight specific examples of how your teacher has impacted your life, both academically and personally.

Do Not Exaggerate

While it’s essential to acknowledge your teacher’s efforts, it’s crucial not to exaggerate. Be sincere and truthful in your speech, and avoid making false statements or claims.

Do Not Undermine the Purpose of the Speech

Keep in mind the purpose of the Teachers’ Day speech – to express your gratitude and appreciation. Avoid any negative comments or criticisms and stay focused on the positive aspects.

Dedicate Your Thoughts

When crafting your Teachers’ Day speech, take the time to reflect on your teacher’s impact on your life. Dedicate your thoughts and emotions to ensure that your speech is authentic and heartfelt.

Incorporate Humor and Emotion

Incorporating humor and emotion into your speech can make it more engaging and memorable. Use personal anecdotes, metaphors, and analogies to make your speech relatable and impactful. However, ensure that the humor is appropriate and does not undermine the purpose of the speech.

Use Personal Anecdotes

A good speech is one that connects with the audience on a personal level. Share personal anecdotes or stories that showcase the impact that teachers have had on your life. This will help you establish an emotional connection with your audience and make your speech more memorable.

Be Unconventional

While there are some standard conventions for a Teachers’ Day Speech, don’t be afraid to break the mold and try something new. Perhaps you can incorporate a poem, a song, or a visual aid to make your speech more memorable.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Once you have written your speech, practice delivering it multiple times. This will help you become more comfortable with the material and ensure that you deliver a polished and confident speech.

By following these tips and incorporating your own unique style, you can craft a speech that celebrates and honors the hard work and dedication of teachers everywhere. Remember to speak from the heart, and your message will resonate with your audience for years to come.

After guiding your child to write a well-crafted Teachers’ Day Speech, the next step is to help them practice and deliver it with confidence. Here are some tips to ensure your child’s speech is not only impressive but also emotionally touching:

  • Practice, Practice, Practice: Encourage your child to rehearse their speech in front of a mirror or with family and friends. This will help them overcome stage fright and build their confidence.
  • Focus on Intonation and Voice Modulation: The tone of voice and modulation can make or break a speech. Encourage your child to practice speaking in a clear, confident, and emotive tone. Teach them to emphasize important words, phrases, and expressions to make their speech more impactful.
  • Maintain a Moderate Rate of Speech: Your child should speak at a pace that is neither too fast nor too slow. Speaking too fast may cause the audience to miss important points, while speaking too slowly can make the speech boring and uninteresting.
  • Use a Pleasing Pitch: Your child’s pitch should be pleasing to the ear. Teach them to speak with a tone that is neither too high nor too low. This will make their speech more engaging and interesting to listen to.
  • Engage the Audience with Presentation: Encourage your child to use appropriate gestures and body language to complement their speech. This will help them connect with the audience and keep them engaged throughout the speech.
  • Maintain Eye Contact: Your child should maintain eye contact with the audience while delivering their speech. This will make them appear confident and sincere.

By following these tips, your child can deliver an impressive and touching speech that will leave their teachers feeling appreciated and valued.

How to Prepare Your Child for the Speech

Preparing your child for a speech can be a daunting task, but with the right approach, it can be an enjoyable experience for both you and your child. Whether your child is giving a speech for a school assembly or a special occasion like Teacher’s Day, here are some tips to help them prepare and deliver an outstanding speech.

  • Start Early: It’s important to give your child enough time to prepare their speech. This will allow them to research the topic, organize their thoughts, and practice their delivery. Encourage your child to start working on their speech at least a week in advance.
  • Understand the Audience: Before your child starts writing their speech, it’s important to understand the audience they will be speaking to. This will help them tailor their speech to the interests and expectations of the listeners.
  • Practice, Practice, Practice: Once your child has written their speech, encourage them to practice it several times. This will help them feel more confident and comfortable with their delivery. You can also practice with them by giving feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Intonation and Voice Modulation: Encourage your child to practice their intonation and voice modulation. This will help them to add emphasis to important points and create a more engaging delivery. A monotone delivery can quickly lose the attention of the audience.
  • Moderate Rate of Speech: Encourage your child to speak at a moderate rate. Speaking too fast can cause the audience to lose track of what’s being said, while speaking too slow can cause them to lose interest.
  • Use Personal Anecdotes: Encourage your child to include personal anecdotes in their speech. This will help them connect with the audience on a deeper level and make their speech more memorable.
  • Incorporate Humor: Humor is a great way to engage the audience and make the speech more entertaining. Encourage your child to include appropriate humor in their speech.
  • Keep it Short and Simple: Encourage your child to keep their speech short and to the point. A long, rambling speech can quickly lose the interest of the audience.
  • Use Visual Aids: If appropriate, encourage your child to use visual aids to support their speech. This can include slides, pictures, or props that help to illustrate their points.
  • Be Confident: Finally, encourage your child to be confident in their delivery. Remind them that they have worked hard to prepare their speech and that they have important things to share with the audience. With the right preparation and mindset, your child can deliver a successful and memorable speech.
  • Encourage them to practice in front of a mirror: This will help them to work on their facial expressions and body language, which are important aspects of delivering a great speech.
  • Record their practice sessions: By recording their practice sessions, your child can listen to themselves and identify areas where they need to improve, such as intonation, pacing, or clarity.
  • Provide constructive feedback: When listening to your child’s practice sessions, be sure to offer constructive feedback that will help them improve their speech. Focus on specific areas where they can improve, and be sure to offer praise for what they’re doing well.
  • Help them to memorize the speech: While it’s not necessary for your child to memorize their entire speech, it’s a good idea for them to memorize the opening and closing lines, as well as any important points they want to make.
  • Practice with an audience: Encourage your child to practice their speech in front of a small audience, such as family members or close friends. This will help them to get used to speaking in front of others and build their confidence.
  • Remind them to breathe: Before your child begins their speech, remind them to take a deep breath and exhale slowly. This will help to calm their nerves and steady their voice.
  • Dress appropriately: Encourage your child to dress appropriately for the occasion. This will help them to feel confident and professional, which will shine through in their speech.

Remember, the most important thing is to help your child feel confident and prepared for their Teacher’s Day speech. With your guidance and support, they’ll be able to deliver a speech that is heartfelt, meaningful, and impactful.

Final Thoughts: Empower Your Child to Give an Unforgettable Speech on Teacher’s Day

Perhaps you’re thinking, ‘But what if my child doesn’t have a natural talent for public speaking? What if they forget their lines or freeze on stage?’

First of all, it’s important to remember that every child is unique and has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some children may feel more comfortable speaking in front of an audience than others, but with the right guidance and practice, every child can improve their communication skills and deliver a meaningful speech.

Secondly, the benefits of helping your child prepare a speech for Teacher’s Day are immense. Not only will your child learn how to express their gratitude and appreciation for their teacher, but they will also gain valuable skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and creativity. Professionally, he was a well-known scholar, philosopher, statesman, first vice president of India, second president of India, and most importantly, a great teacher.

In 1962, when he was selected as the president of India, he was asked by students if he would like them to celebrate his birthday on 5th September. However, he refused and told them that it would be better if they dedicate 5th September to teachers. Since then, students all around India have been celebrating 5th September as the teachers day to honor the teachers and the teaching profession.

For all the students out there, teachers day play a  vital role and help them to pay tribute and gratitude to their teachers for their precious and selfless efforts in shaping their character and future. Besides, teachers have an important role in the development of the education system in our society. Because they not only teach us the school subjects but also they teach us the good ways of living our lives.

Furthermore, they are some of the best inspirations and motivation for us. Besides, they help us to tackle any difficult situations and problems we get while we are working on our future dreams.

Thus, in order to conclude my speech, I would like to say that I am grateful to all the teachers out there for being the lighthouse guiding us through both easy and difficult moments of life. Thank You!

Introduction.

A very warm welcome to all my respected teachers and everyone present here. Today I am here to deliver a speech on Teachers’ Day. I would like to start my speech by thanking all my beloved teachers for always guiding us and bestowing us with all the teachings, moral values, and discipline. Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated every year on the 5th of September to mark the birthday of our second President, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President of India. He was also a great scholar, an ideal teacher, and a Bharat Ratna recipient. He was born on 5th September 1888 . It was after becoming the President of India, some of his friends and students approached Dr. Radhakrishnan to celebrate his birthday. To this, he replied that instead of celebrating his birthday on this particular date, it would be his privilege if 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day all over India. Thereafter, 5th September is celebrated every year to honour our beloved teachers who nourish and prepare us for a better future.

Teachers are our supporting pillars who play an important role in guiding us throughout our student life. They give their best to teach us valuable lessons in life and are our role models whom we look up to. I equally want to thank my parents for being my first mentors and supporting me in each and every step of my life. On this occasion, I would like to request my parents as well as my teachers to continue guiding me the same way.

It is said that the future of a particular country lies in the hands of its children. Thus, a teacher has a major role to play in shaping the future of the students and helping us become successful in our respective careers.

Teacher’s Day is thus celebrated to honour the hardships as well as to acknowledge their special role in our lives. It is a day full of excitement, activities, and special performances that are organized by the students, especially for their teachers. Teachers’ Day is not only celebrated in India but also is celebrated worldwide to appreciate the power of teaching. Different countries celebrate this day on different dates. But, UNESCO officially declared the 5th of October as the World Teachers’ Day in 1994.

Last but not least, I would like to end my speech by thanking you all for providing me with an opportunity to deliver a speech on my beloved teachers on this occasion of Teachers’ Day. I feel proud to call myself a student of this institution which has helped me evolve as a better person and has given me a passion to learn new things every day.

It is because of your hard work and dedication that we as students learn and grow into a better person every day. I would like to thank all the teachers for always standing with us as a supportive pillar and correcting our numerous mistakes. To mark their hard work towards teaching and honour them with appreciation, Teachers’ Day is celebrated all over India on 5th September.

Celebration of Teachers’ Day was started by the first Vice President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was born on 5th September 1888. He was also the second President of India and a great scholar. He had a passion for teaching and was also awarded the Bharat Ratna. Once when some of his students asked to celebrate his birthday, Dr. Radhakrishnan told them that he would be very honoured if instead of celebrating 5th September as his birthday, they celebrated it as Teachers' Day. This truly shows how much he was dedicated to teaching and passionate about paying respect to all the teachers. Thus, every year we celebrate Teachers’ Day to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Teachers often feel underappreciated because they aren’t always recognized for their actions. Teachers need to be praised for their hard work and dedication. You can thank all those teachers through a speech! When you give them a well-written speech, they’ll appreciate your words and remember them long after the event ends. You should plan and write out your speech before the event takes place.

Here are some ideas to express your gratitude to teachers on teacher’s day with your speech.

Start Your Speech With A Greeting

Students aspiring to deliver speeches on Teachers Day are confused about what to say when starting. It is always recommended to start your speech with a greeting like “good morning” or “good afternoon” depending on the time. You can also greet the audience using the phrase “good morning to all teachers and my dearest friends”.

After that, you can add a quote to get the audience’s attention. Quotes can be anything related to education. For example, if you are speaking about the importance of education, you can say something like “Education is the key to success” or “Education is the best gift we receive from our teachers”.

Include The Reason Why Teachers’ Day Is Celebrated

Teachers’ Day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He is considered to be the greatest philosopher and social reformer of India. His teachings were instrumental in shaping modern Indian thought. The speech should be written keeping in mind his philosophy and ideals. A quote about teachers and appreciation towards them should also be included at the end.

Suggested – Things Successful Teachers Do

Highlight The Learnings and The Significance Of The Day

Students are encouraged to conclude their speeches with an impactful statement about what they learned during the event. They could also share their opinions about the event, its significance, and how it changed them. These statements will help other students understand why they chose to participate in the event and what they gained from it. It is undeniable that the speech will be incomplete if we forget about Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s memory.

You should remember him by including his quote at the end of your speech. The end of the speech should remind the audience of what you think best highlights the teachers’ success . Leave the audience with a positive image of teachers.

Connect With The Audience

Speech is an art form. It is not just words spoken out loud, but also the body language, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, and other nonverbal cues accompanying them. A great speaker is someone who connects with his/her audience emotionally. He/she should be able to connect with the audience through his/her eyes and voice.

Suggested – How Important Are Teachers for Society

Picture the crowd, or even place yourself among them. Think about the best way to capture everyone’s attention. You could tell a funny story, or summarize the honoree. As you sit down to write your speech, have testimonials, and a list of qualities handy as a reference. Choose which thoughts or qualities work well to promote the teachers, then focus on those.

Appreciate Every Teacher Individually

Appreciate teachers because they are doing something that matters. You should start with a list of all the reasons you appreciate them. Then mention specific teaching styles that set them apart, such as “uses hands-on activities” or “engages students with an interactive lecture”.

Think about the individual teacher’s personality traits also, adding them to the speech. Also, think about the teacher’s achievements throughout his/her career. These will show how he/she has impacted the community.

Add Compelling Quotes for Teachers

Quotes from parents, students, or other teachers can add a lot to a speech. Ask them about their own experience working with the teacher. Bring your recorder or pen and paper so you can write down direct quotes and get permission before adding the quotes to the speech. Then, select two or three favorite quotes from students, faculty members, or parents and give full credit to the source.

Practice And Proofread

Read a speech out loud at least once before presenting it to the audience. Remember that pacing yourself is important. This can help you achieve the desired tone and give you an idea of the length of your speech . Try to make an impression in time. Listen for grammar and structure while checking for the organization. Do not worry about how often you need to return to the writing desk. Your audience will register your confidence, and they’ll respond to it.

Final Thoughts

Teachers are the backbone of our society. Teachers shape and mold our personalities and help us grow into better citizens. As one looks at their impact on the student body’s growth, education, and well-being, one must agree that they play an important role in our society.

Parents give birth to a student whereas teachers mold that student’s personality and provide a brighter future. Apart from academics, they stand by us at every stage to guide, motivate and encourage us to become better people. We are always grateful to them for their selfless service and dynamic support!

Teacher Day Speech For College (Tutorial and Sample 1000 Words)

How to compose a great teacher’s day speech.

So, prior you put pen to paper, read on to find out how to prepare a great speech; one that will be admired by your teachers, fellow students, and will get you a place in the school’s great hall of fame.

Keep a format in mind

Opening address and speech.

The opening address should be clear, crisp, and to the viewpoint.

It will give your speech a genuinely global appeal if you can also include the names of some famous foreign teachers.

Keep it short

Actions speak louder than words.

Do not read a speech like you were forced to do it. No matter how important and meaningful the names are, they will lose appeal if the speaker is devoid of any emotions. Therefore, be interactive using your hands, facial expressions, actions, and feelings.

The ending should be something that will make your speech memorable and can be referenced by an upcoming generation of students.

Teachers are the backbone of everyone's life. It is the teacher who gives students a new meaning to life. They show us the right path and stop us from doing anything wrong. They may see from the outside, but they care for each student and wish for their growth. Remember that students who do not respect their teachers never grow in life. Teachers mould the student's personalities. They are the only selfless person that happily gives children all their knowledge.

Some Great Teachers

Speech on Teacher’s Day (200 Words, 2 Minute Speech)

Good Morning everyone!I am Shristi Jain of class 4 ‘B’. Today, we are gathered here to celebrate and honor our teachers on this special occasion of Teachers’ Day. Teachers play a crucial role in our lives, guiding and moulding us into the individuals we are today. They are the ones who share knowledge, inspire us, and help us grow both academically and personally. Teachers work tirelessly for our progress and success. They dedicate their time and effort to our learning journey, ensuring that we gain the knowledge and skills needed to excel in life. They’ve served as examples to us, guides, and friends. They are our second parents. A teacher’s role is crucial in the development of a civilized society. A teacher is like a door that leads to countless positive possibilities for their students. A teacher is like a candle that burns itself out to make the world brighter. On this day, let’s express our heartfelt gratitude to all our teachers. Speech on Teacher’s Day (300 Words, 3 Minute Speech)

Honourable Principal sir, director sir, teachers, and my dear friends. A very warm welcome to everyone present over here. I am Kshitij Thakur of class 8 ‘A’. As we all know today is 5 September so we are here to celebrate Teachers’ Day, a day dedicated to our mentors who have played a significant role in shaping our lives.

Teachers are the guiding lights that enlighten our paths. They nurture our minds, support our dreams, and inspire us to achieve greatness. They are the ones who provide us with the knowledge to navigate the world. They serve as role models, imparting not just knowledge but also values of integrity, respect, and perseverance. Their patience, compassion, and belief in us help build our self-confidence and shape our character. The foundation of each developing nation is its teachers. Because of this, teaching is the best job in the world. A teacher isn’t always someone who teaches us school subjects. It can also be someone who teaches us about the most important things in life. Teachers and their students are like gold and their craftsmen. The gold goes through the fire and jiggers of the jeweller, but this is what makes it shine and look beautiful. In the same way, teachers also beat or shout at their students, but only to teach them control and get the best out of them. Because of this, our society has always told us to put our teachers even above God. On this special day, let’s express our deep appreciation by thanking all our teachers.

Now, I would like to end my speech by wishing all our teachers a very Happy Teachers’ Day. Your dedication, passion, and commitment are truly admirable, and we are grateful for everything you do. Thank you for being the lights that show us the way.

Thank you everyone!

Speech on Teacher’s Day (500 Words, 5 Minutes Speech)

गुरुर्ब्रह्माग्रुरुर्विष्णुःगुरुर्देवोमहेश्वरः।

गुरुःसाक्षात्परंब्रह्मतस्मैश्रीगुरवेनमः।।

Good Morning! Honorable Principal sir, director sir, teachers, chief guests, and my dear friends. I am Jagdish Rathor and I study in class 10 th . It’s an honour and a huge pleasure for me to be standing here today. On this special occasion, I want to say few words on behalf of our respected teachers, who are thought of as the backbone of our society. Today is Teacher’s Day, which is a celebration of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday. He was one of the best teachers our nation has ever had. He was also India’s second president. Dr. Radhakrishnan told that it would be a great honor for him if they didn’t celebrate his birthday on September 5 but instead made it Teachers’ Day. This really shows how much he cared about teaching and how much he wanted to honor all teachers.

We all know that the word “teacher” is hard to describe. It’s not easy to be a teacher, because they have to teach students all day without sitting down, figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, and then work on them in the right way. Teachers don’t just shape the lives of the students they teach, but also the lives of the whole generation. Teaching is more than just a good job. It’s also one of the greatest contributions to mankind. A teacher is an intellectual and spiritual guide, and they help their students so that they can spread their wings and fly. They give us the strength to get through life’s hard times. They help us turn our raw potential into beautiful realities. They plant the seeds of knowledge, grow our skills, and give us the power to become the best versions of ourselves. In addition to giving us knowledge, teachers also teach us essential values and qualities that shape us. They teach us how important it is to be honest and have ethics, to respect others, and to never give up. They make us want to dream big, follow our interests, and keep going even when things get hard.

Teacher’s Day is a good time to tell our teachers how much we appreciate them and how important they are to us. Without them, our lives would be useless. As we celebrate Teachers’ Day today, let’s thank the teachers who have made a difference in our lives. Let’s appreciate the pleasure of remembering how hard they worked to make their lessons interesting, how patiently they answered all of our questions, and how much they cared about us when we needed it the most. I bow my head and thank them from the bottom of my heart, now and always. Have a happy teacher’s day! Last but not least, I’d like to end my speech with a quote from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam: “The goal of education is to make good people who are skilled and knowledgeable. Teachers can help people become more enlightened.” Thank you to all of my teachers, who have always shown us the way and been there for us.

In India, Teachers’ Day or Shikshak Divas is celebrated annually on September 5 to mark the birthday of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, who was the first Vice President of India. As we all know, teachers/gurus play a vital role in the life of every individual. They are the ones who inspire us to do great things, and to succeed in life. So it is to celebrate their hard work that September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day.

Even though it is celebrated on September 5 in India, in many other nations, it is celebrated annually on October 5. Every year, the theme of World Teachers’ Day gets changed. A joint statement from UNESCO, ILO, UNICEF, and Educational International said, “On World Teachers’ Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher. Sample Speeches on Teachers’ Day

A few samples of speeches on Teachers’ Day are given below. Go through these speeches and utilise them to expand your knowledge.

The world celebrates Teachers’ Day on the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organisation (ILO)/UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers all around the world. It has set the benchmark regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers.

When Dr. S. Radhakrishnan became the second President of India in 1962, many of his previous students approached him to seek permission to celebrate his birthday, September 5, as a special day. He, instead of granting permission to celebrate his birthday, he requested them to celebrate September 5 as Teachers’ Day, and to recognise the contributions made by teachers to society.

Teachers are one of the top influencers of our lives. Every human being will have a story to tell about the impact made by teachers on their lives. Teachers take every effort possible to enrich the lives of their students, and they bring great changes to our society. What would be the condition of a generation if there are no teachers to inspire them?

According to Solomon Ortiz, “Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students”. With time and effort, a teacher lights the way for their students. It will be a mistake if we fail to notice their devotion and hard work. So let’s celebrate Teachers’ Day and try our best to widen their smiles.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in Tiruttani, Andhra Pradesh, on September 5, 1888. He was an academic, prominent philosopher and statesman, and was one of the most recognised Indian thinkers. Radhakrishnan’s broad knowledge of western philosophy and literary traditions made him attain a huge reputation, and it was through his teachings that many western philosophies were introduced to Indian society. He was an outstanding student during his school and college years, and later became a great teacher. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was a person who dedicated his life to educating others.

In 1921, he was appointed as the professor of Philosophy to the King George Ⅴ Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta. For 12 years, he worked in the university, and during that period, he represented the University of Calcutta at the Congress of the Universities of the British Empire, as well as at the International Congress of Philosophy at Harvard University. Then, later in 1936, he was appointed by H.N. Spalding as a Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at the University of Oxford. H.N. Spalding was highly impressed by his lectures and thus specifically made a position for him in the university. Students of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan highly admired and respected him. Once, his students arranged a flower-decked carriage to take him to the Mysore railway station from the Mysore University. It was in the year 1921, and the carriage was pulled by the students themselves.

2-minute Speech on Teachers’ Day by Teacher

Dear Principal, fellow teachers, students, and esteemed guests,

Today, we gather to celebrate a very special occasion – Teachers’ Day. On this day, we pay tribute to our teachers, who have played an instrumental role in shaping our lives. As a teacher, I feel incredibly privileged and honored to be a part of this noble profession and to be standing here addressing you all on this auspicious day.

Teachers play a crucial role in the lives of students, not only as facilitators of academic knowledge but also as guides and mentors. Our responsibility extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom – we strive to mold young minds into responsible, compassionate, and successful individuals. We work tirelessly to create a stimulating learning environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. We understand that each student is unique, with their own aspirations and dreams, and we endeavor to help them reach their fullest potential.

As we celebrate Teachers’ Day, let us not forget the great teachers of the past, whose wisdom and teachings continue to inspire us. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished scholar, philosopher, and statesman, whose birthday we commemorate today, was an epitome of an ideal teacher. He once said, “Teachers should be the best minds in the country.” It is a constant reminder to us to strive for excellence in our profession and to dedicate ourselves to the betterment of our students.

Teaching is a profession that demands passion, dedication, and commitment. And I am immensely proud to be a part of a community of educators who embody these qualities. Our students come to us from diverse backgrounds, with unique talents and interests. As teachers, it is our duty to nurture their individuality and foster a love for learning, so they can grow up to be confident, well-rounded individuals.

In this fast-paced, ever-changing world, the role of a teacher has evolved beyond merely imparting knowledge. We must also instill in our students the values of empathy, tolerance, and respect for others. We must teach them the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and understanding different perspectives. It is our responsibility to equip our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to face the challenges of the future and to be responsible global citizens.

To our dear students, I want you to know that your success is our greatest reward. We take immense pride in your achievements and celebrate your accomplishments with you. We are here to support you through your struggles and to help you overcome obstacles, both in and out of the classroom. We believe in your dreams and will do everything in our power to help you achieve them.

In conclusion, as we celebrate Teachers’ Day, let us remember the significant impact teachers have on the lives of their students. We are fortunate to belong to a profession that can bring about a profound change in the world – one student at a time. So, let us continue to work together, teachers and students, to create a brighter future filled with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to speak on this special day and for your unwavering support in our shared mission of education. Happy Teachers’ Day!

Sample Motivational Speech for Teachers to Kick off the Year!

funny motivational speaker for educators

Summer is in full swing and with fall just around the corner, schools are busy planning back to school professional development events. Every year, school administrators need to find new ways to motivate and inspire teachers . It's important to start the year with excitement and energy, so below are some thoughts pulled together in a motivational speech that can be borrowed to motivate educators. I am a keynote speaker for over 10 education events per year and I find educators and support staff need inspiration more than ever.

Below is a basic script( not one of my own motivational speeches) that will build momentum in the school year

Motivational Speech for Educators

As we kick off the new year, many of you come here will new enthusiasm, excitement, and energy.

Every new year you stand in front of your classroom, and you ask, how am I going to take this group from where they are to where they need to be?

Because every student deserves a great education. However, building people up takes energy, Building people up takes passion and grit. Building people up takes determination.

We've heard all of this before, and if you say it long enough, and if you say it with passion- people start to believe it.

Many days you come to work when you don't feel like it -but you fake the enthusiasm and muster the energy anyways. Because you won't let your students down.

Teaching requires passion and joy . We know passion is contagious; Energy is contagious, Ambition is contagious.

We are grateful for the positive motivation you bring to each school year.

The most valuable thing we have is time and attention. If time is the most valuable and precious thing we have, it's also the most precious thing we can give. Every day you give that to a student, a student that may not get much of anyone's time or attention.

Today students spend too much time on technology, instead of connecting and building real relationships.

However, when you talk about a world of instant gratification, there’s a problem with it.

If you grow up in a world where you are instantly gratified to do what you want to do, a lot of things that build success don’t require that.

Now we need to teach students delayed gratification, because If you don’t sacrifice for something you don’t value it.

One of the most important things we bring to the classroom is the work ethic. Are we working harder? Are we getting better?

Let’s teach students to solve problems , instead of looking for opportunities.

This year, let's bring the energy, passion, and determination back to our school. Students deserve the best education they can get, and we are prepared to give it to them.

Long and Short Welcome Speeches on Teachers Day by students in English

Below we have provided two speeches- Long and Short Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by students. The Long speech comprises of 500-600 words, and the Short speech consists of 200-300 words, respectively. You can make use of these speeches and grace the occasion.

Long Welcome Speech on Teachers Day by Students

A warm welcome to the Honorable Principal, Vice-Principal, Fellow students, and my Dear Loving Teachers. Greetings to all.

We all have gathered today to celebrate the joyful Teachers day and to thank and praise them for their dedication and hard work. Today, the 5th of September also marks the birthday of a great professor, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. It is the Day we celebrate Teacher’s Day with fun and frolic.

On this occasion, I would like like to thank all my teachers wholeheartedly and mt class teacher for giving me this opportunity to speak before all of you. Teacher’s Day is celebrated worldwide, where students revere and wish their beloved teachers.

Today’s event includes various activities like Thanksgiving speeches, Prayer, Songs, Dance, etc. in a pattern where all students have prepared a particular small special for our teachers.

The reason for Teachers Day to exist is because Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan accepted that his birthday to be distinguished and celebrated as Teacher’s Day. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a righteous man and an exemplary example for a teacher. Our teachers have also been the same without any demand but just showering lots of love upon us.

Since our inception in school, we have always looked up at our teachers, who treat us like their own and love us from the bottom of their hearts. They feed us valuable lessons and push us with motivation to survive through any obstacles in this world. They are our guiding spirits.

Teachers pass on knowledge with the hope that all their students will achieve good careers and success in life. We must be grateful and indebted to all our teachers for even the smallest things in our life. Teachers, you have always been our guardians, and our entertainers, too, for teaching the most boring subject in a fun and simple, understandable manner.

I still reminiscence about the Day that did not understand any of my Hindi poems. I was in grade nine, and while my entire class understood and kept reciting the poem, I was the only one struggling with the meaning. My Teacher understood it without me even having to tell her.

The lunch bell rang, and after the entire class left, she made me sit down and thoroughly explain and understand the complete poem. They are the ones who understand our needs in our lives without even asking. This is how great a teacher is. They sacrifice for our future endeavors.

Teachers demand nothing but just happiness and success. They teach us the hope that we will become good citizens. Thus, as students, it is our responsibility to study hard and make our teachers proud and parents proud.

Hard work is not necessarily only in our studies, but we should also carry forward the moral values that we have imbibed through our teachers to future generations. The most important things are to revere and value our incredible teachers.

In the end, I would like to thank all my teachers for the efforts, sacrifice, and hard work they have put on us so that we grow in the right path. You are guiding spirits who never let us trip over and make us realize that failure is a stepping stone to success and that we should never give up at any point in our lives.

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to appreciate all your hard work and efforts to make-believe in ourselves. You have pitched us values that make us realize that we are walking in the directed path towards our future.

Teachers’ day is celebrated in India on the 5th of September every year. It is celebrated on the auspicious occasion of the birthday of India’s first vice-president and second president, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. On this day, students all over the country honour their teachers and celebrate them. An event for teachers’ day in a school or college would typically have singing and dancing performances by the students.

It is important for an anchor hosting the event to start the program with a fitting quote, a poem or some famous saying so that he or she can immediately capture the attention of the audience. For an event on the occasion of teachers’ day, quotes on the topic of teachers, student-teacher relationships, learning, and gratitude can be great. Choosing a good quotation and then following it up with a good welcome speech can help an anchor kick start the event.

A welcome speech for an event on teachers’ day can be something like this:

American philosopher Sidney Hook once said: “Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system.”

Hello and a warm good morning/ good afternoon/ good evening to our respected teachers and dear students. Today is 5th September, the birth anniversary of our former president, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Dr Radhakrishnan was not just an eminent politician but also a great teacher.

It was his wish that instead of celebrating his birthday, may this day be celebrated as Teachers’ Day to honour our beloved teachers. Without teachers, life would have no class. Without teachers, we wouldn’t be where we are today. So, today, with an extremely grateful heart, I, on behalf of all the students of [school/ college name], would like to thank our teachers for teaching us, helping us learn and grow and always guiding us. Thank you.

“On this beautiful occasion, our students have prepared several amazing performances for our teachers to enjoy. But before that, I would like to invite our respected Principal Sir/Ma’am to please come up on the stage and light the ceremonial lamp. Please give him/her a round of applause. Thank you.”

“There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light.” – Vern P. Stanfill

“Thank you, Sir/Ma’am. May Maa Saraswati bless us all. Thank you. Please take your seat. Everyone, please give him/her a huge round of applause.”

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” – Robert Frost

“Poetry is one of the greatest forms of expression. Today, one of our very talented students, [student’s name], is going to recite a beautiful self-written poem in honour of our teachers. The poem expresses our gratitude and thankfulness towards our beloved teachers. Let’s welcome him/ her on the stage with a huge round of applause. Thank you.”

After the recital:

“That was so beautiful, [student’s name]. You wrote it so beautifully. Thank you so much. You may now take your seat. Can we have a huge round of applause for him/ her?”

Musical Performance

Victor Hugo once truly said, “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”

“Music is indeed capable of expressing our heart and our most sincere emotions. Now, it is time for a melodious performance by our classically trained duo, [name 1] and [name 2]. They are going to play the sitar and sing Raga Bhatiyar. Let’s welcome them with a huge round of applause.”

After the performance:

“Wow! That was surreal! I am spellbound! That was amazing! Thank you [name 1] and [name 2] for such a beautiful performance. You may now take your seats. Everyone, please give these talented students a huge round of applause. Thank you.”

The dance form was often used to express devotion to the Gods in temples as well as to portray religious stories. It has now evolved into a brilliant dance form full of technique and grace. “It is now time for some Bollywood masala performance! Now, students from classes [x] , [y] and [z] are going to present a modern Bollywood dance mashup. Let’s put our hands together and welcome them on the stage! Thank you.”

“That was amazing! What a great performance! You all did a brilliant job! Thank you so much. Everyone, please give them a huge round of applause!”

The anchor can similarly welcome different performers on the stage and carry on with the event.

After the last performance:

“What a graceful performance by our juniors. They did so well. Please give them a huge round of applause.”

“Those were all the performances we had prepared for you, our beloved teachers. We hope that you enjoyed watching them. I would now like to request our respected principal sir/ ma’am to please come up on the stage and say a few words. Thank you.”

After the speech:

“Thank you, Sir/ Ma’am. Your words always inspire and encourage us. Thank you. Everyone, please give him/ her a huge round of applause. Thank you.”

“The most beautiful moments always seem to accelerate and slip beyond one’s grasp just when you want to hold onto them for as long as possible.” – E.A. Bucchianeri

“With that, we have now come to the conclusion of the event. But even after this event ends, what will always remain is our love, our gratitude and our sincerity towards our beloved teachers. It is because of your dedication and commitment to our growth that we have become so capable and responsible today. A heartfelt thank you to all our teachers. Thank you. Also, a huge thank you to our organisers, staff members and students without whose help this event wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you.

Thank you, everyone. Have a great day/night.”

Why a union president crossed partisan lines for a starring role at Trump’s RNC

Zachary B. Wolf

A version of this story appeared in CNN’s What Matters newsletter. To get it in your inbox, sign up for free  here .

It was a remarkable moment Monday night at the Republican National Convention, surely creating some amount of confusion among longtime Republicans, when Sean O’Brien, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, delivered a stemwinder of a speech in prime time. He called former President Donald Trump a “tough S.O.B.”

O’Brien did not endorse Trump, but he leaned into the incongruity of speaking at the convention of a party that has long fought workers’ ability to organize. The union could vote to endorse a candidate later this year.

“The Teamsters are doing something correct if the extremes in both parties think I shouldn’t be on this stage,” O’Brien said, adding that the union has endorsed Republican presidents Richard Nixon and George H.W. Bush in the past. This year, the Teamsters may not endorse any candidate, even though Biden has fashioned himself as the most pro-labor president in US history. Biden became the first president to join a picket line , when he appeared with striking auto workers in Michigan in 2023.

Teamsters.jpg

“At the end of the day, the Teamsters are not interested if you have a “D,” “R” or an “I” next to your name. We want to know one thing,” O’Brien said. “What are you doing to help American workers?”

Appearing Tuesday on “Inside Politics,” O’Brien told CNN’s Dana Bash he would speak at both conventions, but has not yet been invited to the Democratic convention.

“The partisanship is not working. We need bipartisan support, we need bipartisan cooperation,” O’Brien said, adding he would definitely speak at the Democratic convention.

This after Biden bailed out a Teamster pension fund

Biden must be particularly frustrated by O’Brien’s speech since as president in 2022, he OK’d a $36 billion, one-time bailout of a Teamsters pension fund, warding off pension cuts for 350,000 workers and retirees. While Biden has the endorsement of key labor organizations like the AFL-CIO, there’s growing concern among many labor leaders about his ability to win in November.

Bash pointed out Trump’s long history of opposing union rights, which O’Brien did not dispute.

“If we’re not having the discussions, how can we change people’s opinions?” he asked.

Republicans generally oppose organized labor, but JD Vance joined a picket line

During his speech Monday night O’Brien acknowledged the anti-union bent of much of the GOP and said it needs to change. That could take a while. Also Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk, the anti-union Tesla boss who has endorsed Trump, would be showering a pro-Trump super PAC with $45 million per month in cash.

But it is notable, as O’Brien pointed out, that a handful of Republican senators, including Trump’s new running mate Sen. JD Vance, have joined picket lines in recent years. Vance and other Republican senators, however, oppose the Democrats’ proposal to pass a nationwide law, the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, supported by labor unions including the Teamsters .

Also, the selection of Vance, who also spent years as a Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist, was praised by Musk.

An anti-corporate message directed at workers, but an anti-union legacy for Trump

If there was an overriding theme in speeches at the first night of the Republican convention, which were supposed to focus on Make America Wealthy Again, it was an anti-corporate and anti-elitist message, with frequent mentions of helping workers. That’s in keeping with Trump’s appeal to those who feel marginalized and left behind.

Despite Trump’s longtime pro-worker rhetoric, his record as president was decidedly anti-union, as CNN’s Chris Isidore has written.

The help Republicans were offering for workers at the RNC Monday, from a policy standpoint, is indirect. They’re not endorsing raising the minimum wage, as Democrats have long supported. Trump is, on the other hand, pushing an idea to exempt tips from taxes . Many states allow employers to pay workers who get tips below that state’s minimum wage.

Trump and Vance’s answer to helping auto workers is to end Democrats’ emissions goals, which are meant to pivot the US toward more electric vehicles. The United Auto Workers is among the unions to endorse Biden.

Marginal shifts are meaningful

In an election that may yet be decided by marginal shifts in the electorate, any movement toward Trump among union households could spell disaster for Biden, who performed better in 2020 than Hillary Clinton in 2016 among union households both nationally and in key states.

O’Brien has a brash persona. He made headlines for nearly coming to fisticuffs with Sen. Markwayne Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma who also happens to have been a professional mixed martial arts fighter.

In a nod to that episode, O’Brien namechecked Mullin and said he was paraphrasing the senator with this line: “‘It’s time for both sides of Congress to stand their butts up.’ We need trade policies that put American workers first. It needs to be easier for companies to remain in America. We need legal protections that make it safer for workers to get a contract.”

Markwayne Mullin

On the other hand, it’s worth going back to that original standoff between Mullin and O’Brien, in which Mullin complained that a union had tried to infiltrate his plumbing business. That sounds a little more to type when you’re considering traditional Republican views of unions.

In Wisconsin, where the convention is taking place, the former Republican Gov. Scott Walker made a career out of busting government worker unions in his state until he lost a bid for reelection in 2018 .

Walker did enact so-called “ right to work ” legislation opposed by unions by making it easier for employees to work for companies without paying union dues even when there is a collective bargaining agreement. Multiple US states , most of them dominated by Republicans, have such legislation.

There are many different types of unions and they each have different priorities. Police unions are going to see things differently than auto workers. Trump’s promise to abolish taxes on tips seems tailored to gain some marginal support in Nevada, where he announced the proposal. Government worker unions are a strong part of the labor movement and unlikely to be getting any overtures from a new Trump administration, which has tried to paint the federal bureaucracy as an organized deep state opposed to him.

But small movements among certain union members could have a huge impact in November.

Watch Eric Trump's speech at the Republican National Convention

Eric Trump took the podium at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday to say former president Donald Trump left the comforts of his business empire to save the soul of the nation.

The Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization said his father has proven time and time again that he is not fueled by personal ambition but by courage, determination and profound love for the American people.

"My father has been persecuted, targeted by far left Democrats, funded by special interest groups and handpicked judges. My father has been pulled off the ballot of states, radical justices attempting to defy the will of millions of Americans who adore who he is and what he stands for," Eric Trump said.

Eric's words followed Wednesday's speech by Donald Trump Jr., who attacked the administration of President Joe Biden on inflation, border policy and so-called cancel culture. Trump Jr. also complained about the Department of Justice and the 34 state felony convictions against the former president.

What to know about Eric Trump

Trump's second eldest son, Eric is an American businessman, philanthropist and former reality TV personality. He is among the cohort of Trump's loved ones who spoke at the RNC. Lara Trump, Trump's daughter-in-law (Eric Trump's wife), Donald Trump Jr., and Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump's soon-to-be daughter-in-law (Donald Trump Jr.'s fiancée) spoke earlier this week.

On the first night of the convention Monday, during an interview with NBC News ' Savannah Gutherie, the 40-year-old reflected on his father surviving Saturday's assassination attempt and his plans for an "incredibly positive" speech. He also praised his dad's decision to select Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate.

"The chemistry between the two of them... is really tremendous," Eric Trump said. They communicate well."

RNC Day 4: Trump to accept GOP presidential nomination as assassination attempt looms over speech

By Melissa Quinn

Updated on: July 19, 2024 / 12:28 AM EDT / CBS News

Washington — Former President Donald Trump is poised to formally accept the GOP's presidential nomination in remarks on the fourth and final day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday, days after an attack on his life that's expected to loom large over his address.

He told the Washington Examiner in an interview after the assassination attempt, "The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger," Trump said. "Had this not happened, this would've been one of the most incredible speeches" criticizing the Biden administration. "Honestly, it's going to be a whole different speech now."

Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump told "CBS Mornings" that Americans may see a " different version " of Trump in his speech Thursday night. She said her father-in-law "truly was impacted" by the experience. She suggested Americans would see "perhaps a bit softer version than maybe some of the people at home have seen in the past."

Day 4 of the Republican National Convention is focused on the former president's vision for the country if he is elected to a second term in the White House, centering around the theme "Make America Great Once Again." It closes a week in which GOP delegates, governors, lawmakers and other party faithfuls heard Trump's agenda on the economy , foreign policy and public safety.

The week kicked off with convention delegates adopting the GOP's 16-page platform , which Trump heavily influenced. A roll call vote of state delegations was then held to officially nominate Trump for president, marking the close the primary process months after he was declared the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

The former president announced Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate Monday, and delegates formally nominated him for vice president.

Republicans spent the week working to project unity within its ranks following the assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. The former president attended the first three nights of the convention wearing a white bandage over his ear that was grazed by a bullet, which prompted some attendees to wear their own fake bandages over their ears.

In addition to the governors, members of Congress, and Senate hopefuls who delivered speeches praising Trump, a number of his one-time rivals in the GOP primary race addressed delegates, including former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley , Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.

Vance, 39, officially accepted the vice presidential nomination in a speech delivered Wednesday night.

"President Trump represents America's last best hope to restore what, if lost, may never be found again: A country where a working class boy, born far from the halls of power, can stand on this stage as the next vice president of the United States of America," he said.

What's on the agenda for Day 4 of the Republican National Convention?

The big-ticket item to close out the four-day gathering is Trump's speech accepting the Republican presidential nomination. He will likely be the final person to address the convention before it concludes.

The theme for the last day is "Make America Great Once Again," and it will focus on how Trump "will usher in a new golden age for America," according to the Republican National Committee. The party said the former president's agenda is aimed at addressing America's standing at home and abroad, ensuring American families experience prosperity and safety, and creating a resurgence for cities and communities.

"Americans will once again have reason to harbor hope and optimism for the future of our country," according to the Republican National Committee. "President Trump will make America great once again."

The day's official session begins at 5:45 CT, or 6:45 ET, and is slated to end at 10:30 p.m. CT, or 11:30 p.m. ET. For a detailed schedule of events around Milwaukee, see the RNC's master calendar on their website.

Who's speaking?

Among those still to speak at the convention are Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, who leads the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and Rep. Richard Hudson, chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon will also deliver remarks, as will former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, wrestler Hulk Hogan and Alina Habba, Trump's attorney.

Franklin Graham;  Eric Trump , the former president's son; and Dana White, CEO of Ultimate Fighting Championship, are set to speak in the hour before Trump.

how to end a speech on teachers day

Former President Donald J. Trump accepted his party’s nomination during the final night of the Republican National Convention on Thursday, delivering a freewheeling, factually challenged and often ad-libbed speech.

Mr. Trump began by describing in detail the assassination attempt that left him with a bandaged ear. Then, he essentially staged a campaign rally, repeating familiar boasts and delving into a cascade of false and misleading claims about his own record and the state of the border, the economy and the world.

Here’s a fact-check of his remarks.

“We’ve got Right to Try. They were trying to get that for 52 years.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump

This needs context.

The “right to try” law of 2018 allows terminally ill patients to seek access to experimental medicine that is not yet fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration, but a similar program has been in place since the 1970s.

An inflation crisis “is just simply crushing our people, like never before — they’ve never seen anything like it.”

This is false..

Inflation peaked at 9.1 percent in the summer of 2022, but that is considerably lower than its peak of nearly 15 percent in the early 1980s.

Republicans will sometimes point out that the inflation methodology has changed since then — meaning that we are measuring price increases differently — but even accounting for those tweaks, economists have said that inflation was lower in 2022 than it was four decades earlier. Inflation is not, based on the data, crushing people like never before.

“Our planet is teetering on the edge of World War III, and this will be a war like no other.”

This lacks evidence..

While there is an active war between Russia and Ukraine, and between Hamas and Israel, and fighting in Sudan, Myanmar and other countries, there is no evidence that a third world war is imminent.

In terms of previous world wars, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, an estimated 8.5 million soldiers were killed in World War I and an estimated 35 million to 60 million people died during World War II.

The concept of World War III has traditionally referred to a potential war between the United States and Russia, which is not imminent. President Biden has often said he is actively trying to avoid such a conflict even as he arms Kyiv in its war with Moscow.

“We will drill, baby, drill, and by doing that we will lead to a large-scale decline in prices.”

More drilling doesn’t always cause gasoline prices to plunge. Case in point: The United States is actually producing significantly more crude oil today under the Biden administration than it did under the Trump administration, yet gasoline prices are still higher than they were four years ago.

That’s because gasoline costs are also influenced by broader market forces that can cause the global price of crude oil to rise or fall. For instance, a big reason prices increased in 2022 was Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which disrupted the flow of crude across the globe. All else equal, an increase in U.S. oil drilling should put downward pressure on prices, but those other global factors also play a considerable role.

“If you look at the arrow at the bottom, that’s the lowest level — the one on the bottom, heavy red arrow — that’s the lowest level of illegal immigrants ever to come into our country in recorded history right there, right there. And that was my last week in office.”

Mr. Trump presented an immigration graphic that he credited with saving his life during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania days earlier.

Moments before a gunman opened fire at the rally, Mr. Trump turned to gesture at the chart, a move that he said prevented him from being shot in the head . The shooting left his ear bloodied, killed one spectator and seriously injured two others.

In his acceptance speech on Thursday, he referred to a thick red arrow on the chart, titled “Illegal Immigration Into the U.S.,” that points to a significant drop in migrant crossings at the southern border during his presidency.

But despite text on the chart and Mr. Trump’s description at the convention, the arrow is actually pointing to a dip in early 2020 — when migration slowed globally during the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions that followed — not during his last week in office. And that low did not last.

In March 2020, there were about 30,000 encounters at the southern border recorded by Border Patrol, according to Customs and Border Protection statistics . That dropped in April 2020 by almost half, to about 16,000.

In the months that followed, however, the number of migrants encountered at the border then climbed back up. During Mr. Trump’s last month in office, there were about 75,000 encounters by Border Patrol.

And contrary to Mr. Trump’s claim, even the low in 2020 was not the lowest “in recorded history.” Earlier in Mr. Trump’s presidency, the number of apprehensions at the border had dipped to about 11,000 in April 2017 , before the flow increased again.

Also, since 1925, total annual apprehensions nationwide by Border Patrol have often been lower than they were under Mr. Trump’s presidency, noted Michelle Mittelstadt, a spokeswoman for the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute.

There is no arguing that the situation at the southern border grew worse during the Biden administration: In December, there were around 250,000 encounters .

In an effort to reverse course, President Biden recently announced severe restrictions on asylum, and illegal crossings have since significantly dropped . Border Patrol reported about 83,500 encounters in June.

“We gave you the largest tax cuts.”

The $1.5 trillion tax cut, enacted in December 2017, ranks below at least half a dozen other tax cuts by several metrics. The 1981 Reagan tax cut was the largest as a percentage of the economy and by its reduction to federal revenue. The 2012 Obama tax cut amounted to the largest reduction in inflation-adjusted dollars: $321 billion a year.

“We built most of the wall.”

During Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign, he promised to build a wall spanning at least 1,000 miles along the southern border and have Mexico pay for it. That did not happen. Overall, the Trump administration constructed 458 miles of border barriers — most of which upgraded or replaced existing structures. Officials put up new primary barriers where none previously existed along only 47 miles.

“I will end every single international crisis that the current administration has created — including the horrible war with Russia and Ukraine, which would have never happened if I was president, and the war caused by the attack on Israel, which never would have happened if I were president.”

There is no evidence that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if Donald J. Trump had been president of the United States in February 2022, when Russian forces began a full-scale war on Ukraine.

In fact, Mr. Trump supported one of Mr. Putin’s greatest desires — weakening the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Senior administration officials told The New York Times that several times over the course of 2018 Mr. Trump privately said he wanted to withdraw from NATO . And Mr. Trump was impeached for withholding Javelin missiles from Ukraine in 2019. Those missiles proved effective in blunting Russian armor advances into Ukraine in 2022.

“And then we had that horrible, horrible result that we’ll never let happen again. The election result. We’re never going to let that happen again. They used Covid to cheat.”

Mr. Trump has continued to falsely claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him. His assertions about widespread cheating are unsubstantiated. Since the election, the former president has used claims mischaracterizing the voting and counting process, cited baseless examples of fraud and peddled conspiracy theories.

“Just a few short years ago under my presidency, we had the most secure border and the best economy in the history of the world.”

This is exaggerated..

Apprehensions of unauthorized crossings along the southwest border in the 2017 fiscal year, which includes several months of the Obama administration, fell to the lowest point since the 1970s.

But they increased in subsequent years. In the 2019 fiscal year, apprehensions topped 800,000 and were the highest in a decade. And in the 2020 fiscal year, even as the coronavirus pandemic ground global movement to a halt, apprehensions were higher than in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

And when Mr. Trump left office, the coronavirus pandemic had decimated the economy with an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent in January 2021 and gross domestic product had not yet rebounded to pre-Covid levels. But even before all of that, annual average growth was lower under Mr. Trump than under Presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.

“We had no inflation.”

The rate of inflation was indeed low under Mr. Trump, but it was not completely nonexistent.

Under Mr. Trump, the rate of inflation measured by the overall Consumer Price Index largely gravitated around 2 percent — with the rate slightly lower and higher some months — according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics . That dropped at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and inflation reached a low of 0.1 percent in May 2020 before trending upward.

“By the way, you know who’s taking the jobs? The jobs that are created? 107 percent of those jobs are taken by illegal aliens”

Official estimates of employment do not support Mr. Trump’s statement, which makes little sense. And estimates from various groups show that the population of unauthorized immigrants has grown in recent years, but not nearly enough to take all the jobs created during Mr. Biden’s presidency.

The economy has added more than 15 million jobs since January 2021. Two groups that advocate for lower levels of migration and stricter border security have estimated that there are 2.3 million to 2.5 million more unauthorized immigrants in 2023 than in 2020.

Overall, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated that 29.9 million foreign-born workers — both authorized and unauthorized — and 131.1 million native-born workers were employed in 2023. That is an increase of 5.1 million in employed foreign-born workers and 8.1 million native-born workers since 2020 .

“Our current administration, groceries are up 57 percent, gasoline is up 60 and 70 percent.”

Grocery prices are up substantially since Joseph R. Biden Jr. took office in early 2021, but not by 57 percent: The Consumer Price Index’s food-at-home index is up about 21 percent . Gas prices are up about 35 percent , depending upon the measure used.

“Under the Trump administration, just three and a half years ago, we were energy independent. But soon we will actually be better than that. We will be energy dominant and supply not only ourselves, but we supply the rest of the world, with numbers that nobody has ever seen.”

This is misleading..

Under the Trump administration, the United States for the first time began to export more oil than it imported. Energy experts say that is not because of Trump’s policies, but because of the fracking boom that began during the George W. Bush administration and soared under President Barack Obama. It’s still happening.

In fact, under President Biden, the United States has become the biggest oil producer in the world and is producing more natural gas than ever before. The phrases “energy independence” and “energy dominance” also fail to take into account wind, solar and other renewable energy, which is growing at a rapid pace.

Alan Rappeport

Alan Rappeport

“We will reduce our debt, $36 trillion, and we will reduce your taxes still further.”

Mr. Trump suggested that the national debt would be paid down by jump-starting economic growth. He made this promise during his first term, promising that $2 trillion of tax cuts would pay for themselves, and ended up approving more than $8 trillion of borrowing. The Republican platform this year makes no mention of debt or deficits but does call for cutting wasteful spending.

Also, the national debt currently stands at $34.9 trillion, not $36 trillion.

“They want to raise your taxes four times.”

Many elements of the 2017 tax cut Mr. Trump signed into law will expire in 2025, and Mr. Biden has proposed some tax increases on high-income earners and corporations. But this does not amount to a quadrupling of taxes.

The 2017 tax cuts are expected to reduce the average tax rate by 1.4 percent in 2025, according to the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, a left-leaning Washington think tank. Most in the top 5 percent of income would see the greatest change, by 2.4 percent. Mr. Biden has also consistently said he does not support raising taxes on people making under $400,000 a year and, in his latest budget, proposed extending tax cuts for those making under that threshold.

Mr. Biden’s proposals would increase the average tax rate by about 1.9 percent, according to a Tax Policy Center analysis . The top 0.1 percent would see the biggest increase of about 13.9 percent, while the low income filers would see a reduction in taxes. That is no nowhere near the 300 percent increase Mr. Trump warned of.

“I will end the electric vehicle mandate on Day 1, thereby saving the U.S. auto industry from complete obliteration, which is happening right now, and saving U.S. customers thousands and thousands per car.”

There is no electric vehicle mandate. The Biden administration has imposed rules requiring carmakers to meet new average emissions limits across their entire product line. It is up to auto manufacturers how to comply. The Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that the rule would mean that by 2032, about 56 percent of new passenger vehicles sold would be electric and another 16 percent would be hybrids. Autoworkers do fear job losses because electric vehicles could require less than half the number of workers to assemble than cars with internal combustion engines do.

There is also no evidence that the rule or other policies aimed at encouraging electric vehicles are leading the automobile industry toward “obliteration.” Many automakers have, in fact, embraced electric vehicle production. General Motors, for example, has been talking about preparing for an “all-electric future” since 2017. The Biden administration has argued that its policies are aimed at moving electric vehicle jobs from China to the United States.

“We’re going to bring back car manufacturing.”

The American auto industry lost jobs under the Trump administration, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler all closed factories during Mr. Trump’s presidency.

“Probably the best trade deal was the deal I made with China, where they buy $50 billion worth of our product.”

The trade agreement that Mr. Trump signed with China in 2020 was quickly derailed by the coronavirus pandemic, and China never fulfilled its obligations to purchase American goods. And Mr. Trump gave an incorrect total for how much American product China was supposed to buy. A 2022 analysis by the Peterson Institute for International Economics found that China had bought none of the extra $200 billion of U.S. exports in the trade pact.

“Democrats are going to destroy Social Security and Medicare.”

President Biden has pledged not to make any cuts to America’s social safety net programs. Mr. Trump suggested this year that he was open to scaling back the programs when he said there was “a lot you can do in terms of entitlements in terms of cutting.” He later walked back those comments and pledged to protect the programs. But if changes to the programs are not made, the programs’ benefits will automatically be reduced eventually. Government reports released earlier this year projected that the Social Security and disability insurance programs, if combined, would not have enough money to pay all of their obligations in 2035. Medicare will be unable to pay all its hospital bills starting in 2036.

The Biden administration “demolished Title 42.”

The Biden administration kept in place the Trump-era policy, known as Title 42, which allowed border agents to quickly turn back migrants and cut off access to asylum protections for more than a year.

The Biden administration did not move to get rid of Title 42 until spring 2022. The move was later blocked by a federal judge, which forced the administration to keep the policy in place.

During that time, the Biden administration expanded the use of the policy and began expelling Venezuelans to Mexico. It was later rolled back in 2023 by the Biden administration.

“In Venezuela, crime is down 72 percent.”

Mr. Trump claimed that crime had fallen drastically in Venezuela because the country had sent “their murderers” and prisoners to the United States. Annual reports from the Venezuelan Violence Observatory, a research organization based in Caracas, shows a 25 percent decline in the country’s homicide rate from 2022 to 2023 , and a 41 percent decline since 2020 . In comparison, the homicide rate declined even more precipitously while Mr. Trump was president, by almost 50 percent from 2016 .

The Venezuelan Prison Observatory told Univision in 2022, when Mr. Trump first made the claim, that the prisons in the country had not been emptied and rather were at 170 percent capacity. According to the group’s latest annual report, Venezuela’s prison population stood at 33,558 in 2022, about level with its 2021 population of 33,710. Immigration experts have said they could not corroborate Mr. Trump’s claims that other countries were “dumping” their criminal and prison populations into the United States.

“I was the first president in modern times to start no new wars.”

Depending on the definition of “modern times,” President Jimmy Carter started no new wars during his time in office between 1977 and 1981.

“The whole world was at peace. And now the whole world is blowing up around us. Under President Bush, Russia invaded Georgia. Under President Obama, Russia took Crimea. Under the current administration, Russia is after all of Ukraine. Under President Trump, Russia took nothing.”

Under Mr. Trump’s presidency, there was not global peace. While Mr. Trump was in the Oval Office, there was an active war in eastern Ukraine between the Russian and Ukrainian armies, he authorized airstrikes and ground combat operations against fighters of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, and he ordered the assassination of an Iranian military leader in Iraq.

“We defeated 100 percent of ISIS in Syria, something that was going to take five years — ‘It’ll take five years, sir’ — and I did it in two months.”

The American-led coalition campaign against the Islamic State began in 2014 . The research firm IHS Markit estimated that the Islamic State lost about a third of its territory from January 2015 to January 2017. Mr. Trump has largely stuck with, and taken advantage of, a strategy that Mr. Obama began , and the Islamic State lost its final territories in March 2019 , two years after Mr. Trump took office, not two months.

“I stopped the missile launches from North Korea.”

North Korea continued to test missiles during Mr. Trump’s time in the White House, a fact that the former president continually dismissed at the time .

“Our opponents inherited a planet at peace and turned it into a planet at war.”

While Russia had not invaded Ukraine and the war between Israel and Hamas had not broken out, it is a stretch to claim that the world was entirely peaceful under the Trump administration.

Average peacefulness declined in 2018 and 2020 , according to the Global Peace Index, an annual measure of violence around the world compiled by the Institute for Economics & Peace. During the Trump administration, the United States was also engaged in military conflicts in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan and more than 60 American soldiers died in hostile action . When Mr. Trump left office, there were 2,500 troops remaining in Afghanistan.

“We also left $85 billion worth of military equipment” in Afghanistan.

Mr. Trump was once again referring to the total amount that the United States spent on security in Afghanistan over the course of 20 years — not the value of equipment left behind in the 2021 withdrawal.

The United States provided $88.6 billion for security in Afghanistan from October 2001 to July 2021, and disbursed about $75 billion, according to Pentagon figures .

That figure includes the amount spent on training, antidrug trafficking efforts and infrastructure, as well as $18 billion for equipment. CNN previously reported that about $7 billion worth of military equipment that the United States transferred to the Afghan government was left behind during the withdrawal.

“We will replenish our military and build an Iron Dome missile defense system to ensure that no enemy can strike our homeland. And this great Iron Dome will be built entirely in the U.S.A. and Wisconsin.”

The U.S. military’s budget continues to grow year by year, and the Iron Dome missile defense system is effective only against relatively short-range rockets and missiles. Installing an Iron Dome across the country would in no way ensure that an enemy could not strike the United States.

“They spent $9 billion on eight chargers.”

— Former President Donald J. Trump.

This is false .

This is an inflated claim of another false statement Mr. Trump has made on the campaign trail about electric vehicle charging stations. (He recently said that the Biden administration had “opened seven chargers for $8 billion.”)

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which President Biden signed in 2021, allocated $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging stations, with the goal of installing 500,000 across the country.

So far, only seven chargers have been installed — not a great pace. But the suggestion that the entire amount was used on seven chargers is not accurate. The Biden administration has argued that the pace is the result of wanting to get a complex new national program done right.

“He decided to leave behind the comforts of an unbelievable business empire. To leave behind everything he had ever built. To answer the call to serve our nation. Unlike his predecessor, it was not a decision born out of necessity. Unlike the current president, it was not a decision that would enrich his family.”

— Eric Trump, a son of Donald J. Trump

Former President Donald J. Trump did not divest from his businesses when he assumed the presidency, and his critics argue that his companies did benefit from his being in public office. Mr. Trump’s businesses received nearly $8 million from 20 foreign governments during his time in office, according to documents released by House Democrats this year. Much of that was from China. The nonprofit OpenSecrets has also tracked millions of dollars flowing to Trump properties from political entities and groups in recent years, suggesting that those seeking favor with Mr. Trump may do so through his properties.

“He slashed regulations.”

This needs context ..

As president, Donald J. Trump indeed slashed regulations, rolling back more than 100 environmental protections alone. The bulk of those were aimed at keeping the air and water clean, and cutting planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles and power plants.

However, the Trump administration’s attempt to deregulate was also often thwarted by the courts. All told, the Trump administration lost 57 percent of cases challenging its environmental policies, a much higher rate of loss than previous administrations, according to a database maintained by New York University’s Institute for Policy Integrity .

“The U.S. dollar has been diminished.”

The value of the U.S. dollar is stronger than it has been in decades . This year, the dollar index, which measures the strength of the currency against the currencies of six major trading partners, has been hovering at levels last seen in the early 2000s.

Eric Trump’s suggestion that the dollar has been diminished is actually at odds with his father’s recent suggestion that the dollar is too strong, making American exports too expensive abroad.

Former President Donald J. Trump and Senator J.D. Vance, his running mate, have both argued that a weaker dollar would be better for the U.S. economy and have suggested that steps should be taken to depreciate the currency.

“In 2019, I was with him at the United Nations when the first president of history of this country stood there to advocate for religious liberty worldwide.”

— Franklin Graham, the evangelical leader

President Donald J. Trump hosted a United Nations event on religious freedom in 2019 in New York. At the time, he characterized it as the first time a U.S. president had hosted such a meeting. But aside from specific meetings, Mr. Trump’s appearance was certainly not the first time that an American president had championed religious freedom before the United Nations. President Barack Obama did so in a 2012 address to the General Assembly . President George W. Bush pressed the importance of religious liberty in a 2008 interfaith event.

“We’ve lost more Americans from drugs in the past four years than we lost in World War II. Yeah. Our bloodiest war. More than we lost in World War II. Does anybody care? It is pathetic. It is pathetic. And do you hear a single word from Washington about doing anything about it?”

— Tucker Carlson, Trump ally and former Fox News host

Mr. Carlson can certainly argue that lawmakers have not done enough to address the opioid crisis in the United States, but his suggestion that they have done nothing is wrong. The Congressional Research Service listed several major legislative efforts in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

These laws, according to the research service, “addressed overprescribing and misuse of opioids, expanded substance use disorder prevention and treatment capacities, bolstered drug diversion capabilities, and enhanced international drug interdiction, counternarcotics cooperation and sanctions efforts.”

Annual funding for border security and the Drug Enforcement Administration has tried to directly address drug trafficking. The bipartisan border bill that failed this past spring would have also included increased funding for enforcement efforts and new technology to detect drug smuggling. Former President Donald J. Trump lobbied against its passage.
