Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s full name was Avul Pakir Zainuldeben Abdul Kalam, very few people know him by his full name as he was mostly addressed as ‘Missile Man of India’ and ‘People’s President’. He was born into a very poor family in Rameswaram on October 15, 1931.

Since childhood, he enjoyed flying, and was equally curious to know how birds fly in the air? He was very intelligent and enjoyed reading, but his family did not have sufficient income for his school fees, so to support his education, he would wake up early in the morning and ride a bicycle 3 kilometres from home to collect newspapers and sell them.

He was admitted to St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirapalli, and later he went on to complete a degree in physics in 1954 and then studied at the Madras Institute of Technology and graduated in aeronautical engineering in 1955. Since his childhood, Dr Abdul Alam wanted to be a pilot but couldn’t make his dream come true. He learned from his mistakes and accomplished numerous achievements in his life. After completing his degree, Abdul Kalam entered the Defense Department of India. He has been one of the key figures in building the nuclear capabilities of India.

APJ Abdul Kalam was appointed to the Indian Ministry of Defense as a Technical Advisor in 1992, after which he served with DRDO and ISRO, the country's largest organization. Considered a national hero for successful nuclear tests in 1998, a second successful nuclear test was conducted in Pokhran the same year under his supervision, after which India was included in the list of nuclear-powered nations. Abdul Kalam has been active in all space programs and development programs in India as a scientist. For developing India's Agni missile, Kalam was called 'Missile Man.'Abdul Kalam made a special technological and scientific contribution, for which, along with Bharat Ratna, India's highest honour, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, Padam Vibhushan, etc. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate by more than 30 universities in the world for the same.

In 2002, he was elected President of India and was the country's first scientist and non-political president. He visited many countries during his tenure as President and led India's youth through his lectures and encouraged them to move forward. ‘My vision for India’ was a Famous Speech of APJ Abdul Kalam delivered at IIT Hyderabad in 2011, and is to this day my favourite speech. His far-reaching thinking gave India's growth a fresh path and became the youth's inspiration. Dr Abdul Kalam died on July 27, 2015, from an apparent cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture at IIM Shillong at the age of 83. He spent his entire life in service and inspiration for the nation and the youth, and his death is also while addressing the youth. His death is a never-ending loss to the country.

Today, I am here to deliver a speech on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. APJ Abdul Kalam was born to Jainulabdeen and Ashiamma on October 15, 1931. His father was a boat owner and his mother was a homemaker. His family's economic situation was not strong, so at an early age, he began helping his family financially.

He graduated in 1955 from the Madras Institute of Technology and graduated from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, in Aerospace Engineering. He joined the Defense Research and Development Organization's (DRDO) Aeronautical Development Base as a Chief Scientist after his graduation. He won credit as Project Director-General for making India's first indigenous satellite (SLV III) rocket. It was his ultimate support that brought nuclear power to India. In July 1992, he was appointed Scientific Advisor to the Indian Ministry of Defence. As a national counsellor, he played a significant role in the world-famous nuclear tests at Pokhran II. In 1981, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award, in 1909 the Padma Vibhushan, and in 1997 the highest civilian award of India' Bharat Ratna 'for modernizing the defence technology of India and his outstanding contribution.

From July 25, 2002 - July 25, 2007, he served as President of India, becoming famous among Indians and receiving a lot of attention from Indian youth. He became popular as the People's President. Kalam worked as a professor, chancellor, and assistant at many institutions after leaving office. He experienced serious cardiac arrest on the evening of July 27, 2015, and fell unconscious and died 2 hours later.

In 1999, Kalam published his autobiography and a book called The Wings of Fire. He has written many other books that are useful to the people of every generation.

On the day of teacher’s day, I would like to talk about one of the greatest personalities who I admire a lot, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Dr. APJ Kalam has been a great motivation for me and his entire life journey has played a very significant role in transforming my life in a positive way.

We all know that Dr. Kalam was an Indian scientist and a benevolent politician who served India as the President from the year 2002 to 2007. His full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. Born on October 15, 1931, into a Muslim family, Dr. Kalam was a sharp student and an obedient child who helped his family in earning the livelihood. He was born in Dhanushkodi located on the southeastern coast of India. As a child, Dr. Kalam developed a great fascination with air travel by watching birds. This hobby of Kalam later developed into a mission to join aeronautics; the mission got stronger after he saw an article in the newspaper about a British fighter plane.

His father’s profession was to build and rent boats. Kalam was a very bright and hardworking student. He distributed newspapers in his locality to support his father. But he always had great interest towards studies; he was a very promising student and showed enormous likings towards science and mathematics. Dr. Kalam went to St. Joseph’s College after passing from school and attended Madras Institute of Technology to earn his degree in aeronautical engineering.

He was always a promising student and grasped as much knowledge as possible in his school and college. Dr. Kalam joined the defense department of India after completing his graduation. The entire life journey of Dr. Kalam has been an immense inspiration for everyone and especially for the people working at DRDO.

Abdul Kalam was a renowned scientist and a well-known engineer. He also served as India’s President from the year 2002 to 2007. He was already an accomplished and much-loved individual when elected as the president in the year 2002.

Dr. Kalam had spent over four decades as a science administrator and scientist at various prestigious institutions like the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).

Dr. Kalam was born into a very humble South Indian family in Tamil Nadu. His father built and rented boats to fishermen working on the coast. As a child, Dr. Kalam was a highly promising student; he had an enormous fascination towards flight and later he went on studying aeronautics. He completed his degree in aerospace engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. Though he wanted to turn into a fighter pilot but he did not qualify for the IAF (Indian Air Force) .

Dr. Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015, due to massive heart attack. During his last journey too, he was delivering a lecture at the IIM (Indian Institute of Management), Shillong.

Iyadurai Solomon was indeed a great teacher because he helped in shaping the personality of his students and finding a sense of self worth. He also told Abdul Kalam that “With faith, you can change your destiny.” From there began Kalam’s actual journey as he aspired and worked for greater things in life.

He even had this firm belief that he too can leave an impression on the society despite the fact that his parents didn’t enjoy the benefits of education. Abdul Kalam also used to get captivated by the mysteries of the sky and observe the flight of the birds from his early childhood days. Interestingly, he became the first child to fly from Rameswaram.

Many years later when Abdul Kalam visited Madurai Kamaraj University to become a part of the convocation address his most favorite teacher Rev. Iyadurai Solomon was on the dias. When he finished his lecture, Dr. Abdul Kalam bowed down in front of him and said, “Great dreams of dreamers are always transcended”.

Today is 5th September and like every year we have assembled here to celebrate the Teachers Day. I am extremely honored to have been given the opportunity to host this program. On the day of teacher’s day, I would like to talk about one of the greatest personalities who I admire a lot, Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam. I am sure everyone admires the great missile man for his notable contributions to our nation.

Dr. APJ Kalam has been a great motivation for me and his entire life journey has played a very significant role in transforming my life in a positive way.

Dr. Kalam was also a key figure in the Pokhran-II tests launched in May 1998. A total of 5 nuclear devices were exploded in the deserts of Rajasthan in the Pokhran-II test.

Dr. Kalam served India as the president for 1 term and died due to cardiac arrest on July 27, 2015. He was a visiting professor and motivational guru at several universities.

I have three visions for India

In 3000 years of our history, people from all over the world have come and invaded us, captured our lands, conquered our minds. From Alexander onwards, the Greeks, the Turks, the Mughuls, the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Dutch, all of them came and looted us, took over what was ours. Yet, we have not done this to any other nation. We have not conquered anyone. We have not grabbed their land, their culture, their history and tried to enforce our way of life on them. Why? Because we respect the freedom of others.

That is why my first vision is that of FREEDOM. I believe that India got its first vision of this in 1857, when we started the war of Independence. It is this freedom that we must protect and nurture and build on. If we are not free, no one will respect us.

My second vision for India’s DEVELOPMENT. For fifty years we have been a developing nation. It is time we see ourselves as a developed nation. We are among top five nations of the world in terms of GDP. We have 10 per cent growth rate in most areas. Our poverty levels are falling. Our achievements are being globally recognised today. Yet we lack the self-confidence to see ourselves as a developed nation, self-reliant and self-assured. Isn’t this incorrect?

I have a THIRD vision. India must stand up to the world. Because I believe that, unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. Only strength respects strength. We must be strong not only as a military power but also as an economic power. Both must go hand-in-hand. My good fortune was to have worked with three great minds. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai of the Department of Space, Professor Satish Dhawan, who succeeded him and Dr.Brahm Prakash, the father of nuclear material. I was lucky to have worked with all three of them closely and consider this the great opportunity of my life.

I see four milestones in my career:

Twenty years I spent in ISRO. I was given the opportunity to be the project director for India’s first satellite launch vehicle, SLV3. The one that launched Rohini. These years played a very important role in my life of a scientist. After my ISRO years, I joined DRDO and got a chance to be the part of India’s guided missile program. It was my second bliss when Agni met its mission requirements in 1994.

The Department of Atomic Energy and DRDO had this tremendous partnership in the recent nuclear tests, on May 11 and 13. This was the third bliss. The joy of participating with my team in these nuclear tests and proving to the world that India can make it, that we are no longer a developing nation but one of them. It made me feel very proud as an Indian. The fact that we have now developed for Agni a re-entry structure, for which we have developed this new material. A very light material called carbon-carbon.

One day an orthopedic surgeon from Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences visited my laboratory. He lifted the material and found it so light that he took me to his hospital and showed me his patients. There were these little girls and boys with heavy metallic calipers weighing over three kilograms each, dragging their feet around.

He said to me: Please remove the pain of my patients. In three weeks, we made these floor reaction orthosis 300-gram calipers and took them to the orthopedic center. The children didn’t believe their eyes. From dragging around a three kg load on their legs, they could now move around! Their parents had tears in their eyes. That was my fourth bliss!

Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognise our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

We are the first in milk production. We are number one in remote sensing satellites. We are the second largest producer of wheat. We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan, he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert land into an orchid and a granary.

It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news. In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things?

We want foreign TVs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realise that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14-year-old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India.

You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

YOU say that our government is inefficient, our laws are too old, the municipality does not pick up the garbage, the phones don’t work, the railways are a joke, the airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination. You say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits…. YOU say, say and say….

What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name – YOURS. Give him a face – YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your international best.

In Singapore you don’t throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs.60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5pm and 8pm.

YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity. In Singapore you don’t say anything, DO YOU?

YOU wouldn’t dare to eat in public during Ramadan in Dubai. YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah. YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds a month to, “see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.”

YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, “Jaanta hai sala main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so-and-so’s son. Take your two bucks and get lost.”

YOU wouldn’t chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand. Why don’t YOU spit paan on the streets of Tokyo? Why don’t YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston? We are still talking of the same YOU.

YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India?

Once in an interview, the famous ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay, Mr. Tinaikar, had a point to make.

“Rich people’s dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,” he said. “And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels? In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here?”

He’s right.

We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility. We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.

We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public.

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse?

‘It’s the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons’ rights to a dowry.’

So who’s going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU.

When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along and work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.

Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government.

Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

I am echoing J F Kennedy’s words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians…..

“ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY”

APJ Abdul Kalam was a very intelligent man. He was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameshwaram, which is in Tamil Nadu. He was rich in versatility. Apart from being a renowned scientist and a good engineer, he also became the President of India.

Since he had been the 11th President of India, people knew him as the former President. He played a major role in the field of technology and made many efforts to develop India’s various missiles like Prithivi, Agni, Nag, etc. That’s why we call him the Missile Man of India as well.

He had a deep affinity for children and youth.

He was a very humble and talented person whose sweet words were very much liked by the people. If today’s youth gets inspired even a little bit by him seriously, don’t know where India will reach in the world. His life teaches us that if you are really hardworking, you will do whatever you want.

India’s missile man Abdul Kalam Azad was born into a very poor family, but due to his hard work, he was known all over the country. His life has always been inspiring for the people of our country.

His entire journey continues to inspire the members of the popular organization DRDO to do better even today.

He had made his own identity in Defense Research and Development Organization. He was the most famous person in this department. Additionally, he gave various types of missiles to India with his tireless efforts, which shows his passion and creativity towards his work.

Today, we remember him because his contribution to our country makes us feel proud.

When he was young, he didn’t have money for his education but by getting up early in the morning, he sold newspapers and thus he bore the cost of his studies. He was hardworking and intelligent from the beginning.

From his childhood, he used to think about flying. He wanted to become a pilot, so he obtained a degree in aerospace engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology, but his dream of becoming a pilot couldn’t be fulfilled.

Then, he joined the famous institute of India, DRDO. There he did what no one could possibly do.

Apart from being a good scientist, he held the highest position in the country. He served as the President of India from 2002 to 2007.

Today he is not among us but his contribution always reminds us of him.

Republic Day Speech: Every year, 26th January is celebrated as Republic Day in India. It is a historic day when the constitution of India officially came into force, and national celebrations take place. India became an independent republic and a sovereign democratic on 26th January 1950. India is one of the biggest democracies in the world. Dr. B R Ambedkar chaired and drafted the Constitution Drafting Committee, and these doctrines are accepted as the supreme law of India.

Good morning all. On the eve of our 74th Republic Day , I would like to express my warm greetings to all of you. In 1950, we embarked on a journey as a republic nation on 26th January, affirming to practice and follow the principles laid down by our constitution. It emphasized democracy, secularity, equality and provided a framework for three organs-Legislative, judiciary, and executive.

We are now in the third decade of the twenty-first century, where the new generation witnesses the dawn of advanced discoveries and innovation. Every person is willingly participating in the national discourse and looking forward to the growth of the nation. The fundamentals laid down by the constitution strengthens our country, turning it into a robust democracy. By adhering to the rules and law, we are adding meaning to our celebration of independence.

On Republic day, President distributes civilian awards every year. These awards are given based on categories. Republic Day parade is organized by the military of defence in New Delhi. This show is the main attraction of the event and lasts for three days. It showcases India’s cultural and social heritage. Nine to Twelve different regiments of army, navy, and air force march past in all their finery and decorations.

The President unfurls the flag and addresses the nation with a motivational speech. Paramilitary forces and police forces also participate in the event. Furthermore, a tribute is paid to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence. In schools and colleges, students dress up in different traditional costumes representing each state and perform a dance, song, or a speech from the respective region.

Youth is the nation’s bright future; therefore, it is mandatory to act responsibly and preserve national heritage. India is our motherland, and hence it is necessary to work in its interest to make it shine. Everyone should possess the virtue of patriotism. By abiding by the rights and duties written in the constitution, one ensures harmony and peace in society. The spirit of brotherhood, fraternity, and support for each other should be paramount.

The famous saying that a pen is mightier than a sword is essential to fulfilling our core with non-violence and equal justice. The national holidays should not be taken for granted, but its significance needs to be promoted across states to create awareness and disseminate patriotism.

I want to conclude my speech by thanking everyone who honoured this program with their attendance. Lastly, I would like to quote Mahatma Gandhi , who rightly stated that be the change you wish to see. It implies that we must involve and bring change for a vibrant future and not just wait for the government to initiate.

Good morning teachers, and my dear friends. It is a privilege to rise in front of you and deliver a speech on Republic day.

On the 74th Republic Day, we honour the remarkable contribution of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and other members of the assembly who drafted and brought it into force. The work and vision crafted in it sync with our cultural roots and promises every citizen equality of rights and fundamental duties. The constitution is a rule-book divided into various articles making it the most extended structure in the world.

It made the nation secular, sovereign, and democratic. The army, military, and forces participate in the parade to manifest the culture and tradition of our country. We hoist the flag by singing our National anthem written by our great poet Rabindranath Tagore. Sweets and snacks get distributed. A patriotic feeling and enthusiasm spread across the nation.

From kids to adults, every person is seen wearing tricolour outfits. We must abide by our constitution and maintain peace. We should never take our independence for granted and collectively work towards the betterment of our country. The sacrifices and struggles of our freedom fighters should not be confined to these national holidays but throughout our life. As rightly quoted by our former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, “This is a country of colours and faith in spirituals.”

Let this Republic Day remind us of our leaders’ work and life to a safe and happy life. Finally, I would like to say that I am proud of my country and feels honoured to be a part of this gentry. Also, I would like to thank my teacher for placing trust in me and giving me a chance to speak on this occasion.

Good Morning/ Afternoon/ Evening to each and everyone present here today. The Foundation of major educative discoveries and research is embedded in the history of India. There are many personalities in India who have dedicated their lives to the educative fields and achieved great heights in the same. In the journey of science and technology, India grew extensively in the last decades when APJ Abdul Kalam was active. The former President of India and popularly recognised as the “Missile Man of India”, Kalam was the man of the people and probably one of the most loved leaders in the subcontinent.

It would be an understatement to just recognise him as a man who was a beloved President of the nation. He was so much more than just that. Today, I aim to discuss the influential and inspirational life of Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam and pay him tribute by commemorating his contributions to this country.

Born and brought up in a poverty-stricken family of Tamil Muslims that resided in Rameshwaram. His father was a boat owner and imam of a local Mosque while his mother happened a housemaker. He was the youngest of five siblings, four brothers and a sister. It is amusing how a child born in such an underprivileged and minority community rose to fame and name by all right means and for the right reasons.

He even had to sell newspapers in his childhood to meet ends with the general expenses of his family. He is for sure an exemplary personality. Kalam was never an academic topper but always a diligent student who was curious to learn and know about the world, science, and mathematics. His education mainly proceeded based on scholarships, and his constant efforts led him to graduate in Physics, further majoring in Aerospace Engineering at the postgraduate level.

So far, it might seem that Kalam got what he wanted, but one must know that he always wanted to be a fighter pilot. His dreams were shattered when he could not make the list and narrowly missed selection. There were only eight positions in the Indian Air Force, but Kalam was the ninth to qualify. This could have been a huge setback to Kalam but a person destined to rise and radiate his intellect can never fall. He proceeded his career as a scientist in the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, which we also acknowledge as DRDO.

Initially, he designed a hovercraft, but dissatisfaction followed as he did not self-condone his work because of his lack of interest. Soon, in 1969, he was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO, as we call it. Do you remember Rohini? Yes, the successful earth-orbiting satellite. Kalam was the Satellite Launch Vehicle -III project director who deployed them. He has been working on the project of expandable satellites since 1965 but received approval from the government in 69. He even contributed to the development of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.

The Union Council of Ministers disapproved of his Project Devil and Project Valiant but PM Indira Gandhi secretly funded him. While the two projects were discontinued before their completion, they eventually proved helpful in the development of Missile Prithvi. Defence Minister, R. Venkataraman supported Kalam for the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme where he was appointed Chief Executive. This project proved lethal as Kalam and his team developed Prithvi and other ballistic missiles under the same. He surely was the “Missile Man of India” who played a crucial role in the development of the Pokhran-II nuclear bomb tests by the Indian Army .

His developments and contributions are not limited to astronomical science but also extend to India’s Defence Scheme when he served as Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation under the Ministry of Defence. But are you aware that Kalam also has a medical contribution under his name? Yes, he and cardiologist Soma Raju developed the Kalam-Raju Stent, which was a low-cost coronary stent, and later, they designed the Kalam-Raju Tablet, which proved helpful for rural area health care.

He was potentially the most loved President of all time. He was backed by the Bhartiya Janta Party and allied parties under the National Democratic Alliance, Telugu Desam Party, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, and even Indian National Congress for his Presidential Candidature. He won the elections and was the 11th President of India. It was an easy victory for the Bharat Ratna recipient. Abdul Kalam supported the idea of a Uniform Civil Code and backed the conviction of the rapist of a 14-year-old girl. He was criticised for failing to decide upon 20 other mercy pleas he received in his tenure. His term was a successful one, and on multiple occasions, the public expressed their wish for him to proceed with another tenure as the President. However, things never worked out in that direction.

Dr Kalam was always grateful for the love he received. He was appreciated for his books and advocated for India to become a knowledge superpower. His books are vivid evidence of his rational ideologies. He was widely honoured. Imagine, he received seven honorary doctorates from 40 universities! There is an island in Odisha named after him, Parliament road in New Delhi is now known as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road since August 2015, and in 2018, the Botanical Survey of India named a new plant species, Drypetes kalamii after him. His name continues to thrive even after his unfortunate demise due to a cardiac arrest in 2015. His body was laid to rest with complete state honours post his death. He might not be alive and around, but he still lives in the hearts of Indians and will forever be.

Kalam once said, “ Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” He changed the world with his education and knowledge. His unmatchable diligence changed the path of his life. He was put into this world as a child who had to strive even to achieve the little amenities of life, but he fought against all the problems with the weapon of education. He rose above everything and all setbacks to leave an unwashable imprint on people’s minds. If one reminisces about the greatest man to have existed in India, one can never move past Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, such is his legacy!
