Essay on Cristiano Ronaldo: My Favorite Sportsperson, Footballer & Icon

Last Updated on August 10, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

This essay is on the topic – my favorite sportsperson. My favorite sport is football and my favorite footballer is Cristiano Ronaldo. This essay is dedicated to him. Here, I’ve covered the following details – a brief outline of his career, his qualities, individual achievements, and more.

What would you do if you were told that one of the greatest soccer players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, might retire in just four years? According to his agent, he has plans to retire at the ripe age of 37. That’s only four years from now! If you’re a fan of Ronaldo or soccer in general, then this news is definitely something worth keeping an eye on.

Who knows what kind of amazing things he’ll achieve in those final few years on the field? One thing’s for sure: we’re all going to be watching with bated breath to see what happens. So stay tuned for updates on Ronaldo’s 2022 retirement.

Essay on Cristiano Ronaldo: My Favorite Sportsperson

Cristiano Ronaldo is a legend. He is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Ronaldo is regarded as one of the two best players of his generation, alongside Lionel Messi . but my Favorite Sportsperson is Ronaldo personally.

Let me point out some of the individual honors achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo – won Ballon d’Or (5 times), FIFA World Player of the Year, UEFA Best Player in Europe (3 times), European Golden Shoe (4 times), FIFA Puskas Award, Premier League Golden Boot, La Liga Best Player, Pichichi Trophy (3 times), Serie A Topscorer.

These are just some of the individual accolades won by him. The whole list will be much longer. Okay, let me list down some of the popular team honors won by him – English Premier League (3 times), UEFA Champions League (5 times), La Liga (2 times), Serie A (2 times), FIFA Club World Cup (4 times).

These awards, honors, and trophies speak a lot about his greatness. Having won the Ballon d’Or 5 times, he is a true legend of the game.

My favorite club is Real Madrid. And I became a fan of Cristiano while he was playing for Real Madrid. As of now, he is playing for Juventus. Still, I love and admire him. He is an inspiration for fans and spectators.

Real Madrid signed Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009. It was a world record transfer at that time. At Real, he was provided the number nine jersey. In his first season at Real Madrid, he scored 33 goals in all competitions. He proved the fact that he is well worth the record transfer fee that Real spent on him.

After the first season, he worked a lot on his game. He even focused on improving physically. He soon got his number seven jersey at Real. In the second season, he scored 53 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid. Cristiano impressed coaches, fans, pundits, and football fans by scoring 60-plus goals in all competitions on two occasions. Cristiano and Messi regularly scored 50+ goals for multiple reasons.

These guys made it look so simple. But the reality is that they were simply better than other strikers. They were well-prepared, talented, creative, and determined on the field. In total Cristiano has scored around 450 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions (in around 438 matches). Yes, he had an incredible strike rate at Real!

On many match days, he would score goals and hat-tricks for fun! With Real, he has won La Liga two times and the UEFA Champions League four times. He played an integral role in Real lifting their tenth Champions League trophy (La Decima).

At Real, he was so good that he even received the Ballon d’Or four times (while at Real). After spending amazing seasons at Real, he decided to take up a new challenge. This is how he signed for Serie A giants Juventus.

He had no trouble settling down at Juventus. He adapted to the physical Serie A quite easily. In his first season at Juventus, he scored 28 goals in all competitions. In the following seasons, he improved his goal tally vastly. In total, he has scored over 100 goals for Juventus in all competitions. Despite Serie A being a physically demanding league, he has managed to maintain a very good strike rate.

As of now, he has won the Serie A twice with Juventus. Apart from that, he has also won domestic cups and trophies in Italy. He is still playing for Juventus. In the coming seasons, he will surely score more goals for the team. And there is a good chance that he will win more titles and cups with the team.

Okay, I’ve been talking a lot about his Real Madrid and Juventus days. Let me focus more on Cristiano’s early days and career now. Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Madeira, Portugal. He had a tough childhood. As a child, he used to share a room with his siblings.

From a very young age, Cristiano was interested in football. His first breakthrough came when he was signed by the Portuguese club Sporting CP. He was twelve years old back then. To his family’s shock, young Cristiano was diagnosed with a condition known as a racing heart. He successfully underwent an operation to correct this condition.

At Sporting CP, Cristiano managed to impress the coaching staff. They were so impressed that they placed him on a fast-track program. As a result, he rose through the club’s various age-related groups in a single season. By 2002, he became part of the Club’s first team.

In a match between Sporting CP and Manchester United, Cristiano managed to impress Sir Alex Ferguson with his performance. In that match, Cristiano displayed his trickery, pace, passing, vision, and other qualities. Sporting defeated Manchester United. Ronaldo’s performance convinced Sir Alex Ferguson to sign the youngster. At Man Utd, he was given the number seven shirt, previously worn by club legends such as – Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and George Best.

The English Premier League is one the toughest and most competitive leagues in the world. And the young boy from Portugal had no trouble in settling down in EPL. His trickery, speed, and passes caused all types of trouble for defenders.

In order to tackle the physical nature of EPL, Cristiano worked on his physique. He trained his body and developed muscle mass. This vastly improved his performance in EPL. After getting bigger, he was able to deal with the physical aspect of EPL.   With Manchester United, he has won the Premier League three times, the UEFA Champions League, and other domestic cups and trophies. If you ask me, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are in a league of their own. They constantly push each other and this motivates them to test their limits in the process.

Let us talk about his international career now. He has represented Portugal in major tournaments such as – World Cup and Euro. The highest point of his international career came when he captained his Portugal side to victory in Euro 2016. His side beat France in the final against all odds.

On the field, he is a versatile attacker. In the early stages of his career, he was a tricky winger. He used his pace and trickery to beat defenders. He could score goals, make crucial passes, and put dangerous crosses into the box.

He has also been utilized as a forward and striker by managers. Some of his managers gave Cristiano the freedom to play freely in the forward line. This allowed him to start on the wings, cut in and score goals or provide assists.

I’m more than just a fan of Cristiano. I look up to him for inspiration. The thin teenager from Portugal took the EPL by storm. When defenders chopped him down with tough tackles, he didn’t accept defeat. Instead of that, he worked on his physique and this helped him brave the physically demanding league.

He believes in taking care of his body. Even at this age, he is physically fit and performing at the highest level. Youngsters have a lot to learn from him. Professionalism, determination, willingness to work hard, and discipline – are some of his positive qualities, which we all must develop in our lives.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo is a Role Model to so Many

Gerard Fanthom

Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese footballer who many argue is the greatest to have ever played the game. He currently plays for Manchester United but has also played for Sporting Lisbon, Real Madrid, and Juventus. Over his incredible career he has won 32 trophies including 3 Premier Leagues, 2 La Liga titles, 2 Serie A titles, 5 Champions Leagues, 5 Ballon D’ors, a Nations League and a European Championship amongst many others. His success and quality on the pitch inspires many people across the world who want to be just like him.

One of the reasons Cristiano Ronaldo is so good at what he does is his drive for success. He always wants to be the best in every match he plays in which is why in his career he has often spent more time on the training pitch than anyone else. He would always be the first to arrive and the last to leave every day to make sure he knew he was becoming the very best he could possibly be. One of the main reasons for this drive within him is due to his rivalry with Lionel Messi who is also considered to be one of the greatest of all time and they have pushed each other at the very top for over 15 years.

Through all of his successes, one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s biggest achievements was winning the European Championships as captain of Portugal. He scored crucial goals in almost every game on their route to the final, but it was what he did in the final that was impressive in a different way. Early on in the game Ronaldo suffered an injury from a bad tackle and was unable to carry on and from that moment everyone thought France would win the game as Ronaldo was no longer on the pitch. However, he came out to the touchline once he had been treated and almost worked as a secondary coach as he was shouting to his players, pointing them where to be and showing great leadership qualities when a lot of players would have stayed in the changing rooms disappointed, they were unable to play in the match.

Cristiano continued this through the rest of the game including extra time where Portugal did take the lead late on from a goal from Eder, this saw them, and Ronaldo win the European Championships but most people weren’t talking after the game about what happened on the pitch but more Cristiano’s leadership skills to guide his team to victory despite being subbed off injured early on making him a role model not just on the pitch but off it too.

Real Madrid v Real Betis - La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo opened up about his life in football with “Madrid: My Story” on The Players’ Tribune . It’s an incredible insight into how his career, and life, has evolved. You should read the entire piece, but these were the moments that jumped out at us.

Ronaldo has never forgotten the first time his mom and sisters saw him play.

It’s fascinating to see what moments stick with an athlete. One Cristiano describes is when he was 7 years old. His dad would always be at his games, but his mom and sisters had no interest in soccer — so they would never watch him. He never forgot when they first turned up.

I felt so good in that moment. It meant a lot to me. It was like something switched inside of me. I was really proud. At that time, we didn’t have much money. Life was a struggle back then in Madeira. I was playing in whatever old boots my brother passed down to me or my cousins gave me. But when you’re a kid, you don’t care about money. You care about a certain feeling. And on that day, this feeling, it was very strong. I felt protected and loved. In Portuguese, we say menino querido da família.

It was just a few short years later that he left at age 11 to join Sporting Lisbon’s training academy.

Nobody believed in him because he was too small.

Great athletes, or perhaps more aptly, the greatest athletes all have stories of doubt that motivated them. Ronaldo’s is no different.

I remember the first time I heard one of the kids say to another kid, “Did you see what he did? This guy is a beast.” I started hearing it all the time. Even from the coaches. But then somebody would always say, “Yeah but it’s a shame he’s so small.” And it’s true, I was skinny. I had no muscle. So I made a decision at 11 years old. I knew I had a lot of talent, but I decided that I was going to work harder than everybody. I was going to stop playing like a kid. I was going to stop acting like a kid. I was going to train like I could be the best in the world.

Cristiano’s quote on what it’s like to win and lose is an all-time great.

When you lose, it’s like you’re starving. When you win, it’s still like you’re starving, but you ate a little crumb.

Ronaldo dreamed of winning championships for Real Madrid while he was at Manchester United

Ronaldo’s career-defining move was spurning the English Premier League and moving to Real Madrid to cement his legacy as one of the greatest players ever. His heart was always in Madrid, because of his childhood. Even while he was on top of the world with Manchester United, playing at one of the largest clubs in one of the world’s most-visible markets, he wanted more.

I had always admired Madrid, and I wanted a new challenge. I wanted to win trophies at Madrid, and break all the records, and become a club legend.

Ronaldo has done everything he set out to achieve.

Winning has changed for him since the birth of his son.

The is the sweetest and most emotional part of Ronaldo’s story. He explains that winning titles early on was about glory, and achievement — now it’s about cementing memories with his son that will last forever.

It was the moment on the field after we won the last Champions League final in Cardiff. We made history that night. When I was on the pitch after the final whistle, it felt like I had sent a message to the world. But then my son came on the field to celebrate with me … and it was like the snap of a finger. Suddenly, the entire emotion changed. He was running around with Marcelo’s son. We held the trophy together. Then we walked around the field, hand in hand. It is a joy that I did not understand until I was a father.

This is really so sweet. These moments now are the ones that will last with Ronaldo for a lifetime.

But what means the most to me about my time in Madrid, and what I will tell my grandchildren about when I am 95 years old, is the feeling of walking around the pitch as a champion, hand in hand with my son.

Analyzing the Impact of Cristiano Ronaldo

By rishabh chhabria | april 28, 2019.

essay about i admire cristiano ronaldo

It’s hard to believe but there was once a time when many questioned the managerial proficiency of Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary Manchester United manager, but this was the case in the early 2000’s when Manchester United were unable to again reach the heights of their treble winning 1999 season. Enter Cristiano Ronaldo. In his six years at Manchester United, Ronaldo won eight major honors including three Premier League titles and one Champions League (UCL). In the ten years since his departure from the club, Manchester United has only won two Premier League titles, never going past the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Prior to Ronaldo joining Real Madrid, Madrid was enduring a relatively disappointing spell under the guidance of president Ramon Calderon, winning one major trophy in the last 6 years. The arrival of Ronaldo was a result of reinstating Florentino Perez as president who adopted the Galactico policy of buying the best players in the world and Ronaldo was just that. Perez was rewarded as Real Madrid, during his tenure, went on to win 15 major honors and an unprecedented 4 Champions Leagues. Following the departure of Ronaldo, Real Madrid underperformed substantially as the kings of the Champions League were eliminated from the Champions League in all cup competitions and dropped to fifth place during the midseason. The incredible success while Ronaldo is at a club, followed by a downturn in fortunes of established, elite teams after his departure is interesting and thus begs the question, what exactly is the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo on a soccer team?

essay about i admire cristiano ronaldo

From the data we can see that when Ronaldo is playing, the style of Madrid’s offense is designed around Ronaldo, allowing him to neglect defensive obligations and get him the ball in space. The playing style revolves around their primary goal scorer and shot taker, a system that would succeed with only very few players in the world.

However, after leaving Real Madrid, despite Benzema operating as a central striker, the offensive statistics highlight how attacking duties are more evenly distributed and are in fact higher for many Madrid players. This suggests that when Ronaldo is playing, many players may in fact sacrifice their individual game to support Ronaldo. The devastating impact of Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid is also evident in their offensive statistics as in the one season after Ronaldo left Madrid, Madrid’s goals per match dropped by 0.66 while the shots per game also dropped by 4.03.

Prior to Ronaldo joining Juventus, we can see the same even attacking contribution among attackers as at Madrid. After the move to Juventus, Ronaldo leads both in shooting and goal-scoring categories as he is now the focal point of the attack while players such as Dybala, who had been the primary goal-scorer, now finds himself in more of a supporting role.

essay about i admire cristiano ronaldo

Another factor that Ronaldo offers is his attacking versatility and the ability to adapt to different attacking systems. Take the case of Juventus versus Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

In the first leg, where Juventus lost 2-0, Massimino Allegri, Juventes manager, played a 4-3-3 with Ronaldo as the primary striker, which was Ronaldo was accustomed to during his time at Madrid. From the graphic below we can see positions from which key passes were made in both legs. Key passes are defined as passes which lead to a goal-scoring opportunity. As we can see that in the first leg (on the left and in blue) Juventus attempted to penetrate the defenses by passing the ball in positions where the ball must be played in behind the defense in various positions across the field. This was ultimately unsuccessful due to the vision and defensive prowess of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez, arguably two of the best center backs in world soccer. In the second leg however, Allegri switched to a 3-4-1-2 in attempt to exploit Atletico Madrid’s weakness of defending crosses. This can be seen in the image on the right, where the key passes were primarily crosses from the wings allowing Ronaldo to score two headed goals and a penalty which allowed Juventus’ historic comeback sealing his place in history.

Another undeniable impact that Cristiano Ronaldo has is his ability to score crucial goals. A telling statistic is that in the quarter finals, semifinals and finals of the Champions League, Ronaldo has scored 41 goals. The next highest? Lionel Messi with 16. In the most important situations, Ronaldo is able to step up and make the difference. The ability to make the difference between losing and drawing and drawing and winning is what defines the best players in the world. In total last season, Ronaldo scored goals in 17 games for Madrid that made the difference between losing and drawing and drawing and winning. These crucial goals have been essential to Real Madrid’s success and are now suffering from his lack of important goals. This season so far, Ronaldo has done so in 8 different games with many more games to come.

essay about i admire cristiano ronaldo

Besides the numbers that quantitatively cement his legacy in soccer folklore, Ronaldo can significantly impact all of his teammates around him. After 34 years of invaluable experience, Ronaldo and his experience will be invaluable to creating a winning mentality within the squad as well as nurturing young talent, such as Moise Kean, at Juventus. Ronaldo’s uncomparable work rate drives and motivates everyone around him, daring them to work harder. Carlos Tevez tells the story of how when first arriving in Manchester, he showed up early in order to impress Sir Alex Ferguson. Yet, Ronaldo was already at Carrington - the United training complex. The next day, Tevez went an hour early but Ronaldo was already there. Tevez had decided to show up 3 hours early to training, only to find that Ronaldo had arrived earlier. Ronaldo has a supreme confidence in his ability, which is incredibly uplifting and inspiring for his teammates. Prior to Juventus’ comeback versus Atletico Madrid, Ronaldo had told his friends and family that he would score a hattrick to overturn the 2-0 deficit after the first leg and did just that. A man with this confidence, hard work and dedication is not only an asset to the team as a player but as a leader who uplifts and inspires the best in people, which is evident in how Juventus has comeback from a losing position to win in 6 games this season.

Despite dominating domestic competition, Juventus last won the Champions League in 1996, losing 2 out of 9 finals and the signing of Ronaldo is no doubt a statement of their intent to win the highest honor of European competition. Ronaldo’s record definitely suggests that Juventus has finally found the player to take them all the way, but they must be cautious. The profound reliance that teams have on Ronaldo when he plays can both be a blessing and a curse as when Ronaldo leaves a team they tend to struggle to replace his sheer level of output, thus Juventus must a have a plan in place to adequately replace Ronaldo after he is gone, or completely change their style of play - something Madrid and Manchester United have not yet been able to do. Juventus have also always been a defensive-minded team, a quality that is ingrained in Italian football, thus Ronaldo’s lack of a defensive work ethic may potentially have a negative impact on the team, however, Juventus clearly believe the payoff is worth it and given Ronaldo’s current goal-scoring form, it’s hard to disagree.

100 Words Essay on Cristiano Ronaldo in English

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro most popularly known as Cristiano Ronaldo. He was born on 5 February 1985. He is popularly known for his amazing life story as a footballer. He has inspired the world with his skills. In honour of his father’s favourite movie actor, Ronald Reagan,  Chritiano Ronaldo got his name. He has five very well bred children. If one comes across anyone that Christiano Ronaldo has worked with or even based on interviews, it is clear that this man has an insane work ethic. He is driven by hard work; one of his famous quotes lies within these words. “.Talent without working hard is nothing. I see myself as the best footballer in the world. If you don’t believe you are the best, then you will never achieve all that you are capable of.” As we take a look at his past. We see that he was a troubled boy. He had not much to live with. His family was also seen to suffer financially before he gained his fame as a footballer. He went to the extent of cleaning the streets and the family grew relative to poverty. One of the biggest regrets that Christians had to live with is that his father never got to see the fame of his son.

Ronaldo: One of the happiest moments of my career

Sunday, July 10, 2016 by Tom Kell at Stade de France

Article summary

"One of the happiest moments of my career" for Cristiano Ronaldo was a "cruel" night for Didier Deschamps. For Portugal coach Fernando Santos, there were only "incredible emotions".

Cristiano Ronaldo enjoys Portugal's final win

Article body

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal captain I'm so happy. This is something I have wanted for a long time now, ever since 2004. The Portuguese people deserve this, our players deserve this. Unfortunately, things didn't go well for me but I've always believed in these players. They have quality and ability.

This is one of the happiest moments of my career. I've always said I wanted to win a trophy with the national team and make history. I'd like to thank my team-mates, our coach, our wider team at this EURO, and the Portuguese people cheering us on. This is a unique moment for me. It's unforgettable.

  • Portugal spoil France's party with extra-time win
  • Where UEFA EURO 2016 final was won

Fernando Santos, Portugal coach I've always told the players we've got great talent, but we need to fight more than our opponents, run more than them and be more focused than them. We have an amazing group. They've always believed me when I told them we could win this. Wherever we've gone there have always been Portuguese fans. This lifted our souls. It's hard to describe the players' emotions – it's incredible.

Our skipper put in an immense effort, he has amazing team spirit. Twice he tried to get back on the pitch but him being there in the dressing room and on the bench was very important for us. He believed – just like myself – that tonight was our night. When you lose the best player in the world [Ronaldo], you know you have to change things. I'd set up a strategy around him.

When [Éder] came on, he told me he'd score. The ugly duckling scored! Now he's the beautiful swan!

Éder, Portugal match winner It was an amazing moment. We fought with immense strength, we were amazing. I think we deserve this title due to the work all the players and staff put in. Portugal have been wanting this title for so long, so it's fantastic. [Before extra time, Cristiano Ronaldo] told me I would score the winning goal. He gave me strength and positive energy.

Pepe, man of the match This was tough as we lost our main man and we had all our hopes on him because he can score a goal at any moment. When he couldn't go on, I tried to tell our team-mates that we had to win it for him. The coach set us up very well and the subs came on at the right time too. We poured blood, sweat and tears into this. We've written a brilliant page in the book of Portuguese football history.

  • Renato Sanches named Young Player of the Tournament
  • France forward Antoine Griezmann wins Golden Boot

Didier Deschamps, France coach We threw away a great chance to be European champions. Of course the overriding emotion is huge disappointment. It's cruel to lose the final like that. I have to congratulate Portugal. Clearly we had our opportunities and we weren't clinical enough. We weren't cool-headed enough, but I can't hold anything against my players. They gave everything tonight. I don't think we played with the brakes on by any means.

We'd have loved to win this trophy for the fans. There are positives, but it's hard to see them at the moment. Everything we've experienced over the past few weeks and months has been positive so I'm just disappointed we couldn't win this trophy for the millions of fans. I'm not going to think about myself tonight. I'll need some time to digest this, just like the players.

Antoine Griezmann, adidas Golden Boot winner It's cruel and magnificent at the same time. We've lived through some extraordinary moments, and the saddest moments as well. We have to learn. But tonight we gave it our all and we have no regrets. I'm proud of the squad, proud of everybody. Now we have to come back stronger.

Maybe later I can feel proud, but for now it's about the group. I'm very disappointed for my team-mates. I really wanted to offer them this trophy, but I couldn't score and I'm disappointed.

Hugo Lloris, France captain At the end it was about details. We created lots more chances than them. We were lacking some accuracy at the last moment. That's part of football. We need to congratulate Portugal as they were very strong mentally throughout the tournament. For us it was a very positive experience. We are all very disappointed and upset not to win this trophy. We can still build on what we have for future years.

While Messi has the [natural gift], Ronaldo  still proves that if you have [the sheer determination] and [desire to succeed] , you can reach and fulfill your dreams because nothing is impossible, even if you don’t have the ability or the natural talent to do it, I think hard work can [make up for] any weaknesses  you have.”

Describe a famous person you follow on social media

You should say:

  • Who this person is
  • How you know this person
  • Why you think this person is interesting

Sample Answer

Well, I want to start off by saying that I have been a social media addict ever since I was a teenager. I am currently using three of the ten biggest social media sites, which are Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to catch up with the life of different celebrities. Today, I would like to talk about Cristiano Ronaldo, who is a household name for soccer enthusiasts.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently a center forward for Manchester United. He is about 187 centimeters tall and he is renowned for his ability to dribble the ball and display unpreventable shots against the opponent’s goalkeeper. At the age of 36, he has won five golden balls, four European golden shoes and 32 trophies in both club and international levels.

He started off his professional football career at a club called Sporting Lisbon, but only until he became a part of Manchester United did I first know about him. I remember like the back of my hand the game he played against Arsenal, which was a top team in the Premier League. I was mesmerized by not only his outstanding performance but also how versatile he was in different team formations. That was the day that I knew with certainty that he would make a name for himself as one of the best players in the world in the future.

Just by scrolling through his social media accounts, there are a couple of reasons why he is a great role-model. For one, he is the real-life image of not giving up. From his Instagram posts, while many professional athletes have decided to retire at his age, Ronaldo on the other hand sticks to a very strict diet and workout routine. If you were to type keywords such as “healthy body” on the Instagram search bar, a picture of Cristiano Ronaldo would pop-up. Another reason why I hold him in high regard is that he gives a share of his earnings every year to charitable organizations, which helps the less fortunate to make ends meet.

What impresses me most is his professionalism and calmness during interviews. As a celebrity with nearly 400 million followers on Instagram, it is without a doubt that his life is always under a microscope and is stalked by the paparazzi. However, when doing interviews, he still provides deep insight to reporters on his goals and his personal life. I truly hope I can meet him in person in the future to get to know more about him.
