Most Eligible Bachelor movie review: An upbeat, enjoyable romantic comedy that sheds new light on modern-day relationships

Harsha, a 20s something youngster settled in San Francisco, is content with his life - has a dream job, a roof of his own and a loving family back home in Hyderabad. He can't wait to select his best match from the potential brides chosen by his parents and get married. Harsha has rosy dreams about his partner and thinks he has everything sorted to lead a secure, happy life ahead. The confusion game begins when he bumps into Vibha, a free-spirited standup comedian, who changes his perspective towards marriage and companionship. Vibha isn't without her set of issues either. Will these unlike poles meet?

Bommarillu Baskar is a rare filmmaker gifted with the skill of intricately balancing the must-haves of mainstream cinema with his directorial voice. He had managed to find that middle ground with his very first film Bommarillu and to a large extent with his second outing, Orange, as well, where he camouflaged his sensitive stories in an entertaining exterior. After a series of setbacks, he finds his groove again with Most Eligible Bachelor, a light-hearted romantic comedy that hits the right chords and understands the thin line between frivolousness and quality entertainment.

Most Eligible Bachelor is a pertinent take on the many anomalies surrounding arranged marriages. In times when societal standards dictate the right time, age and financial status to get married, the film is a sugar-coated pill that discusses the importance of working on oneself before committing to a (hopefully life-long) relationship. On paper, it may seem that the story is about two youngsters falling in love but Most Eligible Bachelor is about two individuals coming to terms with themselves, their priorities and what they seek from a marriage.

The director contradicts the fact that one has to compromise and adjust for a marriage to last long and instead suggests that the partners need to take the initiative to keep their romance alive. By romance, he doesn't dilute its meaning as physical pleasure alone and highlights the significance of the little personal gestures that could spring new enthusiasm into a relationship. Through two complicated, messy characters like Harsha and Vibha, the film drives the message along well without getting too preachy.

Harsha's hilarious encounters with his potential matches more or less populate the first hour. The film addresses his confusions in a lighter vein and gets a little too absurd when the father of a girl goes on to file a case for his supposedly indecent behaviour. Otherwise, it's refreshing to see a female protagonist like Vibha, a stand-up comedian by profession, who has a voice of her own and is no pushover who has to fall for the charms of the hero. Bommarillu Baskar, the writer shows immense maturity in crafting her character, proving that the childish female leads in his earlier films are a thing of the past.

An aspect that Most Eligible Bachelor benefits from is its racy screenplay. The screenwriters find a knack to keep the laughs coming and still not dilute the emotional quotient of the story. The film's pace slackens considerably in the latter hour, especially when Harsha tries hard to woo Vibha, keeping his identity in disguise. Most Eligible Bachelor still works for the most part because it talks of the dark corners in relationships and doesn't fill its frames with 'make-believe' cute moments.

Akhil, in his finest performance as a lead actor to date, comes a long way as a performer and is immensely likeable, composed and funny. It shows that the actor has consciously worked on his body language, comic timing and dialogue delivery. The film proves that he has the mettle to last long. Pooja Hegde probably gets the most well-written role in her career with Most Eligible Bachelor. It's not always that mainstream actresses get roles with substance, moreover a scope to depict self-transformation and tap into their vulnerable sides. She's much beyond a pretty face here.

The contributions from the film's ensemble cast, be it Murali Sharma or Jaya Prakash or Aamani or Pragathi Suresh, lay a solid foundation for the narrative. Chalaki Chanti and Sudigaali Sudheer are entertaining in their brief roles though Vennela Kishore's humour doesn't quite work this time. The film is full of sparkling little cameos by Faria Abdullah, Eesha Rebba, celebrity couple Chinmayi and Rahul Ravindran. Pradeesh Varma's cinematography is easy on the eyes and this is composer Gopi Sunder's best album in recent times.

Most Eligible Bachelor is a light-hearted, colourful and chirpy film that sheds new light on marriages and modern-day relationships. Backed by confident performances from its lead actors Akhil Akkineni, Pooja Hegde and the supporting cast Murali Sharma, Jaya Prakash, Aamani and Pragathi Suresh, the film has its heart at the right place and is a perfect bet for the festive season. Bommarillu Baskar proves his worth as a writer and director, delivering a trendy, upbeat film that'll bring a smile to your face.

Most Eligible Bachelor Movie Review & Rating

Most Eligible Bachelor Movie Review & Rating

Most Eligible Bachelor Movie Review: Most Eligible Bachelor is a romantic dramedy directed by Bommarillu Baskar starring Akhil Akkineni as an NRI and Pooja Hegde as a standup comic. This wholesome entertainer is produced by Vasu Varma and Bunny Vas.

Harsha (Akhil Akkineni) is a non-resident Indian and the most eligible bachelor who wants to get married. Having a certain job and financial security, he explores life king size. He comes to India to find a suitable partner. In the process, he meets a stand comedian Vibha (Pooja Hegde) but things did not work as Harsha's family rejects Vibha. Meanwhile, Harsha continues following Vibha to woo her and convince her to marry. Later, Vibha reveals that she is not interested in getting married. Why is she not interested in wedding? What did Harsha do then? What happens in the end? Forms the film's story.

Performances

Akhil Akkineni is extremely impressive in the role of Harsha. Since his character is of his age, it looks easy for the actor to unfold the action on the big screen. At the same time, the backdrop suits him too. Compared to his previous outings, Akhil displayed a great variation and improvement in his performance. Pooja Hegde, on the other hand, is extremely good. Pooja's character has got a lot of variations and she even has the scope to perform her part well. The chemistry between the two is good too. Murali Sharma, Pragathi, Sudigali Sudheer , Vennela Kishore, Jayaprakash, Posani Krishna Murali, and others made their presence felt.

Technical Aspects

The camera work and the background score are the major plus points in the movie. The visuals are grand and colorful. The music is good too. A couple of songs that became a big hit were placed nicely. The background score helped the film elevate the emotion well too. The film's writing is impressive in the first half but falls flat in the second half. The production values are grand and lavish.

Most Eligible Bachelor has a thin storyline but it has got a lot of scopes to explore. Director Bhaskar who made a comeback to Tollywood is already known for dealing with strong yet sensitive emotions. However, for this project, the director put his focus on delivering the entertainment rather than pulling the project off with emotions. The first half looks fun and entertaining with a lot of interesting elements. However, the second half falls flat with weak writing and it gets into a preachy mode.

Akhil’s Most Eligible Bachelor garnered constant attention with songs and trailers. Bommarillu Bhaskar is coming back with the movie after a long gap of eight years in Telugu. The trailer looked promising and so are the songs with wonderful visuals. The movie hit the theaters today and here is the review.

What Is It About?

Harsha (Akhil Akkineni) who believes that a successful career is an eligibility for a successful married life, visits India from abroad to see and decide a bride to get married in three weeks. While he is busy with his bride-selection process, he comes across Vibha (Pooja Hegde), a standup comedian. Though his views about marriage are not the same as Vibha’s, Harsha gets highly impressed with her. But Vibha rejects him as she feels he is not the guy she wanted. Harsha goes back to his life in the US. How Harsha and Vibha get together and what changes happened in their lives make the story of Most Eligible Bachelor.

Performances

Akhil looks very good on screen and he improved his acting skills a lot. Pooja Hegde looks stunning and she performs very well as Vibha.

Murli Sharma gets a good role and he slays it in his usual style as Vibha’s father. Jaya Prakash, Aamani, Getup Srinu, Ajay, and others did their job. Sudigali Sudheer will be seen as a sidekick of Akhil and his comedy doesn’t entertain much. Vennela Kishore is wasted.

Real-life couple Chinmayi and Rahul Ravindran appear as the reel couple. Their performances look forced and skipping them completely would not have done any bad to the story.

Eesha Rebba, Faria Abdullah, and other actresses appear in guest appearances and they all did fine.

Technicalities

Most Eligible Bachelor looks rich in visuals. Many great-looking scene compositions and beautiful shots indicate one of the best cinematography works in recent times. All the actors were shown at their best looks. Editing is fine and so is the screenplay. Dialogues are good.

Songs in the movie are the highlights. Almost all the songs are great, visually and audibly. The romance and relationship in Lehraayi song are impressive. The background score by Gopi Sundar is neat and apt. Great productions values by GA2 Pictures.

Pooja Hegde Songs Visuals

Thumbs Down

Parts of the Second half Comedy Preachy at times

The Most Eligible Bachelor here who first thought that the ‘eligibility’ is only to get married, later realizes that there is eligibility for ‘married life’ too. The story deals with it and Vibha plays a crucial part in it. Vibha shows the maturity and clarity she has got on marriage.

The family members, pelli choopulu scenes, Akhil in his in-shirt looks, actress Satya talking to the abroad-staying husband on phone, and even the bride with which Harsha almost gets married, remind us of Bommarillu. After all and of course, he is the same director.

The court scene comedy in the first half manages to bring laughs here and there. Vennela Kishore’s comedy did not work.

The director wanted to emphasize and enlighten about few myths in married life. He says it through Vibha, that married life is not just perfect with adjusting, but with romance. Except that he appears to have deviated from the point for a while in the second half of the movie.

Though the hide and seek track between Vibha and Harsha looks good for a while, Vibha’s inhibitions and insecurities about marriage contradict with her matured thinking that was introduced to us earlier. The reason for that is justified at a later point, but it is not totally convincing. Of course, the old technique of ‘cinematic liberty’ is used here on how Vibha could not recognize that it is Harsha, all the time.

Romance is generalized as sex and the Most Eligible Bachelor here wants to undo it. The difference between sitting next to each other and sitting close to each other makes the point here. Dialogues are good, but a lot of them made it preachy in many scenes.

While the attempt here is to underline that romance is just everything that a couple does to keep their marriage and bond fresh forever. But due to the existing taboo, it has to be seen how good the ‘romance’ explained here scores. To make that point clear, the director also mentions that if one thinks it is ‘dirty-minded’ to talk about romance, we all should think a little dirty.

Finally, the Most Eligible Bachelor is engaging with most of it, except for some slowdowns and deviations.

Bottom line: Half Breezy Half Preachy

Rating: 2.75/5

Most Eligible Bachelor Review

What's Behind

King Nagarjuna's son Akhil Akkineni for long has been trying to score his first hit at the box office. He is teamed with Bommarillu Bhaskar who is not seen on screen for many years and romanced the most happening beauty, Pooja Hegde, in Most Eligible Bachelor. The film hit the screens today as a Dasara special. Let us how Most Eligible Bachelor entertained movie lovers.

Story Review

Young and handsome Harsha (Akhil Akkineni) settles well in the US and finally decides to get married. Prior to that, he sets everything to start his marriage life getting a new bungalow and making all arrangements in it so that he can live happily with his wife. His parents (Jaya Prakash, Aamani) shortlists few matches during his 20 days stay in India so that he can finalize one and perform his marriage.

As he goes on with his 'pelli chupulu' process, he comes across the picture of Vibha (Pooja Hegde) whom his parents reject as their horoscopes do not match. Akhil at once gets attracted to Vibha( Pooja Hegde), a standup comedian who creates fun over a character named after her father Subbu (Murali Sharma) has her own set of thoughts which others think rebellious and that completely different from Harsha's line of thinking. Can Harsha and Vibha ever live happily by getting married should be found out on screen?

Artists, Technicians Review

Bommarillu Bhaskar after a long gap of seven years finally came with the Most Eligible Bachelor and he planned to show Akhil as a lover boy. The story is predictable and seen in many movies like NRI guy getting attracted to a girl and facing problems in between. However Bhaskar tried to generate fun in various scenes and at times it entertained keeping the viewers engaged. The first half ends on a decent and interesting note and this raised expectations of the narration taking off to another level in the second half.

However, the little monotony which appeared in the first half took centre stage in the second half ending up testing the patients of the viewers. Hilarious scenes disappear and the routine emotions play the spoilsport. The pre-climax and climax end on expected lines with monotonous routine dialogues.

Akhil played the role of a lover boy once again and but his looks surprises all. He looked awkward initially but people get used to it.  In the second half Akhil sported a long beard and this put off many of them. However, Akhil performed well as a confused youngster and emoted and expressed well in difficult scenes.

Pooja Hegde got an important and significant role and she used full use of it. Pooja Hegde made her presence felt and attracted with her expressions and emotions. She indulged in glamor treats and her screen presence beautified the film. Murali Sharma as Pooja Hegde's father performed well. Eesha Rebba sparkled for a second and others like Aamani, Sudigali Sudheer, Vennela Kishore, Jayaprakash, Posani Krishna Murali are ok in their roles. Rahul Ravindran and Chinmayi did their bit in special roles. Others performed accordingly.

Gopi Sunder beautified the film with his melodious tunes. Leharayi song stands out sending romantic vibes in a beautiful manner. His background music elevated the scenes. Pradeesh Varma's cinematography captured the visuals in a beautiful and appealing way. The editing of Marthand Venkatesh could have been better especially in the second half. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Bommarillu Bhaskar came with a simple story and he tried to include youthful elements to attract viewers. To some extent, he emerged successful with humor in the first half. But his screenplay and direction lost way in the second half, as he turned preachy with no real solution though climax scenes are loaded with emotions. A little fine-tuning of the script would have done wonders for Most Eligible Bachelor. Considering all these points, CJ goes with a 2.75 rating for Most Eligible Bachelor .

Akhil’s Most Eligible Bachelor is a film that has been in the making for a long time now. The film has finally been released today and let’s see how it is.

Harsha(Akhil) is a well-settled software employee in the US. He comes back to India in search of a bride and his parents arrange various proposals for him. But Harsha falls for Vibha(Pooja Hegde), a stand-up comedian who has a very practical mindset. But things turn on its head as a small family feud crashes Harsha’s love story. The rest of the story is as to how Harsha changes his ideologies and wins Vibha’s heart.

Plus Points:

Pooja Hegde looks beautiful as Vibha and also performs well in crucial scenes. Bommarillu Bhaskar has etched her character impressively and showcased Pooja as a modern independent woman. Murali Sharma is decent in his role as Pooja’s father.

The songs are yet another added advantage to the film and have also been shot quite well. Sudigali Sudheer, Pragati, Vennela Kishore, and Ajay do their roles well. The camera work is also quite impressive as every frame looks grand. Rahul Ravindran and Chinmayi shine in their cameos.

Last but not the least, Akhil looks handsome and gets a meaty role to perform. Though he looks a bit naive in the first half, he gives a mature performance in the latter part. His chemistry with Pooja Hegde is also pretty good.

Minus Points:

Most Eligible Bachelor has decent romance but the story had even more scope to elevate it. But the director Bhaskar does not make use of it. Also, the way Akhil’s Pelli Choopulu episodes are executed looks forced.

Akhil tries to woo Pooja Hegde by hiding from her in the second half. He meets her time and again in various ways but Pooja is absolutely unaware that it is the hero who is around her. There are many such scenes that miss the logic. A small family feud is taken to the court taking things over the top.

The film is a bit low on emotions. The family drama showcased should have been even more effective. Also, the film has some forced scenes related to marriage. The problems showcased in a relationship do not create much impact as the screenplay is weak.

Technical Aspects:

Production values of the film are top-notch as the US and India visuals look rich. As mentioned above, music by Gopi Sundar is one of the highlights. Pooja Hedge’s look and costumes have been designed quite stylishly. The dialogues are also contemporary and suit the mindset of today’s generation.

Coming to the director Bommarillu Bhaskar, he has done a passable job with the film. His story is about a boy who wants a girl who can adjust to his busy life. But the way he executed the conflict point is not that impressive. He keeps the proceedings breezy with songs and passable comedy but in all this, the crucial emotions take a beating.

On the whole, Most Eligible Bachelor is a take on modern relationships. The story is quite simple and logic is missed here and there. All those who do not mind the above-said things can give this film a shot for its good music, lavish visuals, and passable comedy.

'Most Eligible Bachelor' Review: Directionless Narration

Movie: Most Eligible Bachelor Rating: 2.5/5 Banner: GA2 Pictures Cast: Akhil Akkineni, Pooja Hegde, Vennela Kishore, Murali Sharma, Aamani, JP, Esha Rebba, Vennela Kishore and others Music: Gopi Sundar Cinematography: Pradeesh M Varma Editor: Marthand K Venkatesh Art: Avinash Kolla Producers: Bunny Vas, Vasu Varma Director: Bommarillu Bhaskar Release Date: October 15, 2021

The combination of Akhil Akkineni and the Tollywood queen Pooja Hegde has evoked interest. Besides this combination, the songs have made “Most Eligible Bachelor” most eagerly awaited. The film hit the theaters today.

Let’s find out its merits and demerits.

Story: Harsha (Akhil Akkineni), a well-settled working professional in the USA, comes to India seeking a marriage alliance. Strangely, he fixes his wedding date even before a match has been fixed.

Harsha needs to finalize one girl among the 20 ‘Pelli Choopulu’ his family arranges for him in 20 days.

Vibha (Pooja Hegde), a female stand-up comic personality in Hyderabad, is one among the alliances, but his family rejects her because ‘jatakalu’ have not matched.

Harsha accidentally meets Vibha and likes her attitude, her philosophy about marriage, and life in general.

As expected Vibha and Harsha part ways due to one incident, and he heads to the USA again. The confused desi lands again in India to woo back Vibha.

Will Vibha fall for him again?

Artistes’ Performances: Akhil Akkineni plays a confused youngster’s role with ease. He fits into the character.

Pooja Hegde’s stand-up comic act doesn’t evoke many laughs, but she makes up for it up with her beautiful presence.

Other than these two lead actors, none have much to talk about.

Technical Excellence: More than anyone else in the cast and crew of this movie, music director Gopi Sundar seems to have believed in this script. He has given three superb songs, and “Leharaayi” is the best among them. Gopi Sundar’s songs have worked out on the screen as well.

Cinematography, dialogues, and production design are okay. Editing is patchy.

Highlights: Gopi Sundar’s songs Pooja Hegde Some romantic moments

Drawback: Comedy track Directionless sequences Illogical situations Inconsistency in the second half

Analysis Bommarillu Bhaskar begins the film with Akhil narrating his story to a couple, played by real-life couple Rahul Ravindran and Chinmayi. Typically, Akhil narrates his story in flashback mode. It is a recreation of ‘Bommarillu’ and ‘Orange’, where in both the films, strangers listen to the hero's love story. Like in ‘Orange’, Bhaskar’s colossal box-office dud, the protagonist ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ is a confused person, one who doesn’t know what he really wants.

But “Most Eligible Bachelor” begins with a series of Pelli Choopulu sequences like in the recent “Shaadi Mubarak” movie. The entire first half of this film is a straight copy of “Shaadi Mubarak”. But the “pelli choopulu” scenes provide some good fun. The humor is generated from the embarrassing situation the hero lands in. Although it is absurd to think that the hero's parents and their extended family would fix a wedding date and search for an alliance, the scenes provide some entertainment.

The director has incorporated many illogical scenes. Example: To make the heroine understand that the hero asked silly questions to girls in many Pelli Choopulu he attended are the ones she said to him before, the director takes the drama to a courtroom. Such an absurd scene is created all for entertainment.

The second half has some moments, but it again turns preachy. Like in “Bommarillu”, the hero takes a class to all his family members gathered at the wedding ceremony about the true meaning of romance. "Romance is not sex, it is the expression of love," he asserts.

Bommarillu Bhaskar seems to be confused about his own story. He begins the film differently and ends it by telling another thing. The film gives a feel of khichdi, while some individual ingredients (like songs and a couple of sequences) are good, the whole dish doesn’t taste yummy.

In a scene Akhil narrates a frog joke to Pooja. If anybody understands that joke completely, then his IQ level can be on par with that or Einstein. If anyone among the audience can laugh to the stand up comedy jokes of Pooja then he can be given the 'best sense of humor award of the millennium'.

Vennela Kishore never acted in this insipid comedy track. The  entire credit goes to the director.

At one point, Akhil says his situation is like that of rasam that was placed on a banana leaf. The rasam goes in all directions. By the end of the film, we feel the same, as the story moves in many directions.

“Most Eligible Bachelor” is just a passable rom-com, but with more boring portions.

Bottom-line: This bachelor story is a 'boiler'

‘ Most Eligible Bachelor ‘ Review

Most Eligible Bachelor Review

Most eligible bachelor movie review

Akhil Akkineni will have an acid test with ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’. The film marks the comeback of Bommarillu Baskar as director and Pooja Hegde is the leading lady.Gopi Sundar’s music is a great support and Most Eligible Bachelor has several renowned actors in other important roles. ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ is hitting the screens on October 15th in India,Oct 14th in USA. GA2 Pictures are the producers.

Harsha (Akhil) is a financially secure, well settled bachelor from New York City. He goes on twenty days trip to India to attend multiple match making events with hopes of eventually finding a bride for himself. Growing up in a joint family with traditional roots, he has a typical old school set of expectations for his future life partner. He meets Vibha (Pooja), a stand-up comedian by profession, with intriguing new age expectations when comes to a life partner. He falls for her and we have the rest of the movie showcasing his attempts to win her.

Initially, the film is fun. Director Bhaskar succeeded in generating situational comedy in the guise of Harsha’s ‘Pelli Choopulu’ series of episodes. Harsha’s interactions with Vibha, getting tips to woo girls is very engaging. ‘Guche Gulabi ’,’ Leharaayi ‘ songs placement, tunes and picturization are good. The scenes between Akhil and Murali Sharma are appealing as well. Exploring different sets of expectations from today’s youth when comes to their future life partners, is a great story point, but after a while it starts to get a bit boring as it is stretched thin all the way to end of the movie. A few illogical scenes like filing a court case for rejecting marriage proposal, brokering a business deal based on pretend romantic advances further bring the movie down a notch.

The move has similar shades as the Orange movie (also from the same director) and has plot resemblances with a small Telugu film ‘Shaadi Mubarak’. Bommarillu Bhaskar focused on delivering entertainment and didn’t care about any story or emotions. The chemistry between the lead pair is non-existent. In the second half, there are many preachy scenes which test the audience patience.

The production values by GA2 banner are very good. Gopi Sundar’s music is melodious.

Performances:

Akhil acted with ease, showed more maturity in performance than his previous ones. However, looks wise this film might not be his best. Pooja Hegde is excellent in looks, performed well as Vibha. Murali Sharma, Pragati roles delivered some fun moments.

Positives: 1. Two hit songs 2. Lighter vein first half 3. Good visuals

1. Wafer thin storyline 2. Redundant discussion about qualities of a life partner 3. Preachy, slow paced second half

‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ with its wafer-thin story line, ends up presenting a cliché definition to “Romance”. A disappointing second half negates the entertaining first half. Two good songs and overall lighter vein approach might be enough to a limited section of youngsters. At its best, this is an average film.

Most Eligible Bachelor Movie Review: The romance is boring, the comedy is forgettable

Rating: ( 2 / 5).

Bommarillu Bhaskar’s Most Eligible Bachelor , through most of its second half, feels like a spin-off to the filmmaker’s Orange . The 2010 film followed its protagonist Ram (Ram Charan), who believes he is the greatest lover in the world. He goes on a trial to prove his idea of love, which seems to defy the generally accepted relationship norms, to Jaanu (Genelia). Towards the end, he realises that his understanding of love has been convoluted all the while. Replace Ram’s terribly misunderstood beliefs about love with marriage and you have Harsha (Akhil Akkineni), the protagonist of Most Eligible Bachelor .   Director:  Bommarillu Bhaskar Cast: Akhil Akkineni, Pooja Hegde, Murali Sharma, Vennela Kishore

We are introduced to Harsha as someone with utmost clarity about his life partner, but his belief system is shattered when he meets Vibha, played by Pooja Hegde. Now, Vibha’s beliefs about marriage contrast Harsha’s, and the film is all about how they feed off each other’s understanding of what makes a successful marriage. In a way, Vibha does to Harsha what Ram tries to do to Jaanu in Orange . It’s a terrific premise but Most Eligible Bachelor fails to form a memorable film from it, mostly attributed to the lack of novelty in how scenes play out. Every character apart from the leads are cardboard cutouts, the wit falls flat (even Vennela Kishore fails to leave a mark), and the performances are, well, functional.

Harsha leads a sorted life in the US; he has a house and a well-paying job, which he deems to be the eligibility to get married. He comes down to India to get married, but here’s the catch: he’s yet to find the bride. Confident about his judgments and what he expects from his wife, Harsha and his family start hunting for brides -- Eesha Rebba, Fariah Abdulla, and Saanve Meghana are wasted in feeble characters. After Harsha instantly falls for Vibha, a stand-up comedian who uses the medium to deliver long, unfunny monologues about marriage, she begins to influence his choices and understandings of the entire concept of marriage.

Do you remember the comedy scene in Dil, where Venu Madhav’s character manages to borrow answers for the questions being asked in an interview and ends up giving the same answers even when the questions are changed? That’s precisely what the proceedings and their consequences in the first half of this film reminded me of when Harsha begins to expect the same from his prospective brides. It felt like a silly joke fetched too far. And when this angle is later given a serious twist to illustrate the protagonist’s indecisiveness, it feels force-fit. And then there's a scene where Harsha seals a corporate deal while playing indoor football with a young executive, who then immediately wants to get married to him. You get the idea of the film's writing, right?

Inconsistency is the film’s innate trait. It’s masqueraded as the transformation these characters go through, but the trajectory of Vibha feels heavily inorganic. While I appreciate the idea of role-reversal of the lead characters (and how they help each other) in the second half, it’s shoddily done. Moreover, their relationship, which banks on anonymity, is borderline creepy. However, Pooja Hegde's performance, well, let's say, presence, keeps things light and humane, and it is certainly the meatiest role she has played so far.

When it’s not trying to be a shoddy examination of relationships or preaching to us about the vitality of emotions in keeping a relationship afloat, Most Eligible Bachelor sticks to the typical troupes to keep us engaged. We have the friends of the lead trying hard to invoke laughter, a slap here and there, and probably an angle that seems to work: the cat and mouse banter between Harsha and Vibha’s father, played by Murali Sharma. Most Eligible Bachelor holds its intentions in high regard and in the process, ends up being a tiring watch.
