Essay on Cyclone

Natural calamities destroy human life in large numbers. From floods to cyclones, various natural calamities have been seen destroying the lives of hundreds. A cyclone is a mass of air that rotates inwards. Cyclones are of different types. Below are a few sample essays on ‘Cyclone’.

  • 100 Words Essay on Cyclone

Cyclones are the movements of winds that are irregular and involve closed air circulating a low-pressure centre. The process through which cyclones are formed and intensified is known as cyclogenesis. Cyclones are accompanied by destructive and violent disturbances such as torrential rainfall and heavy squalls. However destructive cyclones prove to be of geographical importance which helps in various ways. Cyclones help in levelling down pressure inequalities and wind movements over the globe. They also play a significant role in the process of heat exchange between various latitudinal zones. Cyclones are characterised by the presence of an anticyclone between two of them. Depending on various factors cyclones are classified into tropical or temperate cyclones.

200 Words Essay on Cyclone

500 words essay on cyclone.

Essay on Cyclone

The term ‘cyclone’ was coined by Henry Piddington, who published 40 papers that dealt with storms in Calcutta between 1836 to 1855. These papers were published in the journal of the Asiatic Society. The term cyclone means “the coil of a snake”. Even though cyclones vary in their types yet there are a few characteristics common to all. This common characteristic is – all cyclones occur in low-pressure areas. They work on the ‘Coriolis Effect’. The Coriolis Effect is where a mass when rotating in a circular movement experiences a force on itself. This force is perpendicular to the axis of rotation and the direction of motion.

Types of Cyclones

Types of cyclones include tropical and temperate cyclones.

Tropical Cyclones | These cyclones have a thermal origin. They develop in specific seasons over the seas. This is because in tropical sea locations there exist local conventional currents which acquire whirling movements. This whirling movement is the cause of the Coriolis effect caused due to the rotation of the earth. The ideal conditions in which tropical cyclones develop are high temperatures and quiet air.

Temperate Cyclones | These are also called ‘wave cyclones’, and are not heat-dependent but rather they are active in mid-latitude regions. They arise in the regions between 35 latitudes and 65 latitudes in both hemispheres.

Cyclones are natural calamities that bring along the destruction of property and human life.

Irregular wind movements characterised by closed-air movements are termed cyclones. The main cause behind cyclones to occur is the Earth’s rotation and atmospheric disturbances. In weather systems, ‘cyclone’ is a general term used when we see the inward movements of winds in an area of low atmospheric pressure. The major types of cyclones include tropical and temperate cyclones.

Significance of Cyclones

The cyclones level down the inequalities of pressure around the globe. They also play a significant role in complex processes where heat exchange is involved. Apart from this, cyclones also have a part to play in precipitation in the mid-latitude regions.

Cyclone Vs Tornado

Cyclones and tornadoes may appear the same to people but they are different from one another:-

Where cyclones are defined by the rapid circulation of air masses, tornadoes are defined as air columns rotating at destructively high speeds.

Cyclones appear in tropical regions, specifically islands, whereas tornadoes have been spotted in all the continents in the world except Antarctica.

Types of cyclones include tropical and temperate whereas types of tornadoes include multiple vortexes, daredevil, waterspout, and more.

My Experience of a Cyclone

Recently, the eastern part of India saw a landslide that was caused by cyclone Amphan. Technology has advanced to extreme levels and thus the meteorological departments were aware of the impending danger before it knocked on our doors. This proved to be of great advantage because the government was able to evacuate 3 million people before the tragedy could strike.

In the path of this cyclone fell the states of Odisha, West Bengal, and parts of Bangladesh. I am a resident of Kolkata. Amphan was a strong cyclone that weakened due to the landfall but still, it affected various areas which were densely populated. Cyclones have become common due to the rise in global temperature and have brought along the destruction of life and property. I had a relative who lived in Odisha whom I lost a year before due to another cyclone that had weakened by the time it hit Kolkata. This year, Amphan was nothing but an example of how to see death up close.

The Terror I Experienced

It started raining right on the evening of 19th May. The winds were strong and the weather was cool. I had a peaceful sleep unaware of what was to strike the next day. The next morning it was incessantly raining and it only increased by mid-day. The winds were also taking a devil’s shape striking the huge coconut trees and swinging them back and front. Suddenly, the lights went off and the neighbouring areas were darkened. I noticed that the trees were shaking violently. The windows made a screeching sound and it seemed like they would break off any moment.

It was nothing but a horror movie scene. I was shaken from within and a tree fell on our home window, breaking it. The glass pieces pierced my skin and I started crying. My phone was out of network, darkness all around, and all I could think of trying to escape. I slept crying and the next morning everything seemed calmer than the previous day. It took days for the situation to come under and the incident left me traumatised.

Essay On Cyclone- Suitable For All Class Students

Essay On Cyclone

Cyclone essay 1

Topic- (Introduction, Occurs, How it is caused, Some examples, Effects, Conclusion)

Essay On Cyclone – Floods, droughts, cyclones etc. are the natural calamities of Bangladesh. The word ‘Cyclone’ is derived from the Greek word ‘Cyclos’ a circle which means whirlwind. Generally, cyclone means a kind of moving storm. It always changes its direction and blows at the rate of 60 kilometers or more per kilometer. When very strong winds whirling around the center of the storm moving at a terrific speed with an anti-clockwise motion in the northern hemisphere and with a clockwise motion in the southern hemisphere, a cyclone occurs.

Low depression in the Bay of Bengal is the main cause of cyclones in Bangladesh. This depression prevails on the ocean first. Then it gradually proceeds with much speed towards the land. The region that it touches becomes dark. The sky becomes cloudy. The flow of wind begins suddenly and the temperature rises. Such an environment forecasts that a cyclone is going to take place. Soon the sound of the wind becomes as loud as the roaring of a lion. Rains begin to pour in torrents with flashes of lighting and thunder.

Don’t Forget to Check: Essay in English

The cyclones that occurred in Bangladesh in recent years especially in 1960, 66, 77, 85, 88 and 91 were indeed terrible. We remember the cyclones of 1988 and 1991. The coastal areas are usually the prey to cyclones. Most hard hit areas are Hatia, Sandwip, Urierchar, Chokoria, Cox’s Bazar, Bhola etc. We know from our records that the cyclone of 1970 caused the death of ten lakh people.

Cyclone moves at a terrible speed. Houses, trees, crops, buildings are leveled to the ground. A cyclone often brings with it dreadful tidal bores. These huge sea-tides wash away everything – men, women, household things and animals. Ships and steamers are sunk due to it. The tragedy caused by the cyclone cannot be described exactly in words.

Man is a helpless puppet at the hands of the forces of nature, though science has conquered nature to some extent. As nature is still more powerful than science, we shall have to take precautionary steps to stop the destructive effects of the cyclone. Advance warning of storms or cyclones will be needed and proper steps should be taken to ensure maximum safety of life and property.

Essay on natural disaster

Levels of Disaster

The severity or degree of damage can be further divided into three categories:

Small Scale Disasters: Small scale disasters are those that extend from 50 Kms. to 100 Kms. So this kind of disasters does not cause much damage.

Medium-scale disasters: Medium Scale disasters extend from 100 Kms to 500 Kms. These cause more damage than a small scale disaster. Moreover, they can cause greater damage if they occur in colonial states.

Large Scale Disasters: These disasters cover an area of more than 1000 Kms. These cause the most severe damage to the environment. Causes: These can cause of releasing of the energy. This release is from the core of the earth. Furthermore, the release of energy causes seismic waves. Rupturing of geological faults causes earthquakes. But other events like volcanic eruptions, landslides mine blasts can also cause it.

Landslides: Landslides is the moving of big boulders of rocks or debris down a slope. As a result, landslides occur on mountains and hilly areas. Moreover, landslides can cause destruction to man-made things in many ways.

Causes: Gravitational pull, volcanic eruptions , earthquakes can cause landslides. Moreover, soil erosion due to deforestation is also a cause of landslides.

Avalanches: Avalanches are like landslides. But instead of rocks thousand tons of snow falls down the slope. Moreover, this causes extreme damage to anything that comes in its way. People who live in snowy mountains always have fear of it.

Causes: Avalanches takes places when there is a large accumulation of snow on the mountains. Moreover, they can also occur from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Furthermore, the chances of surviving an avalanche are very less. This is because people die of hypothermia in it.

Tsunami: Tsunami is the production of very high waves in oceans and seas. Moreover, the displacement of the ground causes these high waves. A tsunami can cause floods if it occurs near shores. A Tsunami can consist of multiple waves. Moreover, these waves have a high current. Therefore it can reach coastlines within minutes. The main threat of a tsunami is if a person sees a Tsunami he cannot outrun it.

Causes: Tsunami is unlike normal eaves that occur due to the wind. But Tsunami is waves that occur by ground displacement. Thus earthquakes are the main causes of Tsunamis.

Speech on Cyclone

Cyclones are powerful storms that swirl around a calm center, much like water going down a drain. They can cause heavy rain, strong winds, and even floods.

You might know cyclones by other names, like hurricanes or typhoons. It all depends on where they happen in the world.

1-minute Speech on Cyclone

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, today we’re going to talk about cyclones. They’re giant, spinning storms that can be as wide as a few hundred miles! Imagine that, a storm bigger than your city!

First, let’s understand what a cyclone is. It’s a storm that forms over warm oceans. The warm air rises, creating a low-pressure area. Air from high pressure areas rushes into this low pressure, and starts spinning because of the Earth’s rotation. This spinning air picks up more warm, moist air from the ocean, and that’s how a cyclone grows.

Now, why should we care about cyclones? Well, they can cause a lot of damage. Heavy rains can flood our homes and fields. Strong winds can blow away roofs and uproot trees. And storm surges – a wall of water pushed by the cyclone – can flood coastal areas. It’s important that we know about them so we can prepare and stay safe.

But it’s not all bad news. Cyclones can also bring much-needed rain to dry areas. And by moving heat from the tropics to colder areas, they help balance the Earth’s temperature.

So, what can we do? We can’t stop cyclones, but we can prepare for them. We should listen to weather forecasts, and follow advice from authorities during cyclone warnings. And after a cyclone, we should help each other rebuild and recover.

In conclusion, cyclones are powerful storms that can be both destructive and helpful. By understanding them, we can better protect ourselves and our communities. Let’s respect the power of nature, and learn to live with it in harmony. Thank you.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, let’s talk about cyclones. Cyclones, in simple words, are large, spinning storms. They are born over warm ocean waters near the equator. Picture a giant, swirling top that spins faster and faster. That’s what a cyclone looks like from space!

The first thing to know about cyclones is that they have different names in different parts of the world. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, we call them hurricanes. In the Northwest Pacific, they are typhoons. And in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, we call them cyclones. But no matter the name, they are all the same type of storm.

Cyclones are powerful. They can bring heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding. They can damage homes and buildings, rip up trees, and even change the shape of the land. The center of the cyclone, called the eye, is calm and clear. But the area around the eye, known as the eye wall, is the most dangerous part. It’s where the storm’s strongest winds and heaviest rain are found.

Now, you might be wondering, why do we need to care about cyclones? Well, cyclones can be very harmful. They can destroy homes, roads, and schools. They can cut off food and water supplies. They can also make people sick, especially if they don’t have clean water to drink or a safe place to stay. That’s why it’s so important to understand cyclones and how to stay safe when one is coming.

Scientists study cyclones to learn more about them. They use special planes to fly into the storm. They also use satellites in space to watch the storm from above. This helps them predict where the cyclone will go and how strong it will be. This information can save lives by giving people time to prepare and get to safety.

But there’s also good news. We can protect ourselves from cyclones. One way is by listening to the weather forecast. If a cyclone is coming, it’s important to have a plan. This might mean going to a safe place, like a storm shelter. It also means having enough food and water, and other supplies like a flashlight and a first-aid kit.

In conclusion, cyclones are a part of nature. They can be scary and dangerous, but we can protect ourselves by understanding them and being prepared. Remember, the more we know, the safer we can be. So let’s keep learning about cyclones, and help others to do the same. Thank you.

Essay On Cyclone For Students In Easy Words – Read Here

Twitter

Cyclone is a type of tropical cyclone that has been known to have winds in excess of 200 miles per hour. In India, the cyclone has been called as ‘Kamala’, which means ‘the one who brings death’.

The cyclone is defined as a spherical rotation of enormous winds in the atmosphere. The cyclone is a natural catastrophe that destroys everything in its path when it arrives.

It is the most devastating natural catastrophe. It obliterates people’s lives. A cyclone is a storm with very high wind speeds and significant rainfall, as well as low air pressure.

Cyclones originate in the seas, and they may move for up to 7 days on average. Hurricanes and typhoons are other names for cyclones.

The cyclone usually manifests itself in regions near to the sea. Because there is no control over the water when a cyclone strikes, there is a greater risk of flooding in coastal regions.

When a cyclone strikes, the wind strength is so powerful that it may uproot an electric pole or a large tree. This cyclone can do significant harm to humans.

The Consequences Of A Cyclone

Essay-On-Cyclone-For-Students-In-Easy-Words-8211-Read

Generally, cyclone-prone locations are those that are visible, such as islands that are surrounded on all sides by saltwater. The Asian continent is also prone to cyclones.

There have been many instances in the past when cyclones have appeared in India. In India, the southern states such as West Bengal, Orissa, and Tamil Nadu are very close to the sea, and there are many chances of cyclones in these areas. Not only in the southern states, but also in Maharashtra and Gujarat, which are both in the cyclone-prone region, there are many chances of cyclones.

In the year 1977, India was hit by a storm in Tamil Nadu, which ruined many people’s lifestyles and lives.

Natural catastrophes, like cyclones, inflict a significant deal of damage to civilization. When a cyclone strikes, it is impossible for anybody to control it, and it destroys everything in its path.

The Cyclone’s Precautions

1625968774_932_Essay-On-Cyclone-For-Students-In-Easy-Words-8211-Read

When a cyclone is approaching, weather reporters are the first to learn about it, and they broadcast it on the news. When it is broadcast, we should listen carefully and avoid coastal regions.

When a cyclone strikes, we must flee to a safer location where we can receive immediate assistance. Countries’ governments should take responsibilities for assisting their citizens.

When a cyclone or other natural catastrophe strikes, numerous government camps are set up to assist the affected population.

Because India is so close to the coast, the Indian government should assume some responsibility for putting these camps up in the event of a storm.

When there are indications of a cyclone or when the cyclone is approaching, we should remain in our homes as much as possible, and if we must go, we should find a safer location to hide from the cyclone’s powerful winds, which may take anything in its path. When natural catastrophes strike, we must take care of ourselves.

Here is the essay on a devastating cyclone in English in 500+ words for students.

Cyclone Essay In English

Cyclone Essay In English

A disastrous cyclone hit the capital of Orissa on October 29, 1999. It came at a mind-blowing speed of 240-260 km per hour and destroyed everything that came on its way. It was called the second-worst cyclone of the century by Indian Meteorological Scientists. In fact, it was predicted by the scientists beforehand.

The scientists noticed a depression in the sea and predicted the arrival of a cyclone on 29th October 1999. The scientists had warned about its arrival to the Orissa State administration, but nobody took it seriously. Had people shifted to some other place, they would have been saved, but that idea did not strike in the minds of people at that time.

The people could have gone to their friends and relatives, places at that time, after taking their checkbooks, money, and important personal belongings with them. At least they would have been saved from the disastrous consequences of the cyclone, but unfortunately, they did not take things seriously and thus became the victim of the disastrous cyclone.

The cyclone did not spare anyone coming it's way. The electric poles and the trees were uprooted. Innumerable men, women, and children got drowned in the deep water. The people were not even able to find their own houses. The Indian Navy was given the task of "Relief Operation". They were supported to supply relief materials from the helicopters. The Indian Air Force dropped more than 12 tonnes of food packets in the cyclone-hit region.

Many boats, ambulance cars, and generators were used in the rescue operations. But sadly, very few cyclone-affected people were able to derive benefit from the relief materials because most of the politicians, middlemen, and officials gobbled up the food items themselves instead of sending them to the public. They also accumulated the money, supposed to be spent on the cyclone-affected regions, for vested interests.

They cheated the public by misappropriating the accounts. They did not spend the required amount on the cyclone-affected people but filled up their own pockets with it. The relief material was supposed to be given only to the cyclone-affected people, but greedy people, too, came forward to enjoy themselves. Some of the politicians of Our nation are extremely corrupt.

They spent a small amount on the "Public Welfare Activities" but showed that they have spent a lot of money on social causes. This is what they did in the cyclone-hit regions. They pretended that they have spent lakhs and crores on the public, whereas they had only spent a small amount from it. If they promise 10 lakhs, they spend one lakh out of it. If 100 lakhs, then 10 lakhs, and the rest of the money is gobbled by them. It is very essential to take firm measures to save the Nation's money for the right cause.

The promised amount was not spent on the cyclone-hit regions. The Govt. officials did not do their job efficiently. Very few oppressed people got some relief in the "rescue operations". Most of them kept pleading and crying, but nobody was there to hear their cries.

This type of devastating cyclone can hit any region at any time. The Govt. must take precautionary measures to prevent this calamity. People should be warned beforehand through predictions and should be made aware of its consequences. Govt. should find out the regions which are more prone to cyclones, and thereafter take firm steps to prevent them.

It is the duty of the Govt. to save the lives of innocent people, who get drowned in such devastating cyclones, that hit any region, at any time, without giving any warning and signs of arrival.

cyclone essay in english 250 words

Being able to write an essay is an integral part of mastering any language. Essays form an integral part of many academic and scholastic exams like the SAT , and UPSC amongst many others. It is a crucial evaluative part of English proficiency tests as well like IELTS , TOEFL , etc. Major essays are meant to emphasize public issues of concern that can have significant consequences on the world. To understand the concept of Global Warming and its causes and effects, we must first examine the many factors that influence the planet’s temperature and what this implies for the world’s future. Here’s an unbiased look at the essay on Global Warming and other essential related topics.

Short Essay on Global Warming and Climate Change?

Since the industrial and scientific revolutions, Earth’s resources have been gradually depleted. Furthermore, the start of the world’s population’s exponential expansion is particularly hard on the environment. Simply put, as the population’s need for consumption grows, so does the use of natural resources , as well as the waste generated by that consumption.

Climate change has been one of the most significant long-term consequences of this. Climate change is more than just the rise or fall of global temperatures; it also affects rain cycles, wind patterns, cyclone frequencies, sea levels, and other factors. It has an impact on all major life groupings on the planet.

What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century, primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels . The greenhouse gases consist of methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, carbon dioxide, water vapour, and chlorofluorocarbons. The weather prediction has been becoming more complex with every passing year, with seasons more indistinguishable, and the general temperatures hotter.

The number of hurricanes, cyclones, droughts, floods, etc., has risen steadily since the onset of the 21st century. The supervillain behind all these changes is Global Warming. The name is quite self-explanatory; it means the rise in the temperature of the Earth.

What are the Causes of Global Warming?

According to recent studies, many scientists believe the following are the primary four causes of global warming:

  • Deforestation
  • Greenhouse emissions
  • Carbon emissions per capita

Extreme global warming is causing natural disasters , which can be seen all around us. One of the causes of global warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases that become trapped on the earth’s surface, causing the temperature to rise. Similarly, volcanoes contribute to global warming by spewing excessive CO2 into the atmosphere.

The increase in population is one of the major causes of Global Warming. This increase in population also leads to increased air pollution . Automobiles emit a lot of CO2, which remains in the atmosphere. This increase in population is also causing deforestation, which contributes to global warming.

The earth’s surface emits energy into the atmosphere in the form of heat, keeping the balance with the incoming energy. Global warming depletes the ozone layer, bringing about the end of the world. There is a clear indication that increased global warming will result in the extinction of all life on Earth’s surface.

Solutions for Global Warming

Of course, industries and multinational conglomerates emit more carbon than the average citizen. Nonetheless, activism and community effort are the only viable ways to slow the worsening effects of global warming. Furthermore, at the state or government level, world leaders must develop concrete plans and step-by-step programmes to ensure that no further harm is done to the environment in general.

Although we are almost too late to slow the rate of global warming, finding the right solution is critical. Everyone, from individuals to governments, must work together to find a solution to Global Warming. Some of the factors to consider are pollution control, population growth, and the use of natural resources.

One very important contribution you can make is to reduce your use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of global warming, and recycling it takes years. Another factor to consider is deforestation, which will aid in the control of global warming. More tree planting should be encouraged to green the environment. Certain rules should also govern industrialization. Building industries in green zones that affect plants and species should be prohibited.

Effects of Global Warming

Global warming is a real problem that many people want to disprove to gain political advantage. However, as global citizens, we must ensure that only the truth is presented in the media.

This decade has seen a significant impact from global warming. The two most common phenomena observed are glacier retreat and arctic shrinkage. Glaciers are rapidly melting. These are clear manifestations of climate change.

Another significant effect of global warming is the rise in sea level. Flooding is occurring in low-lying areas as a result of sea-level rise. Many countries have experienced extreme weather conditions. Every year, we have unusually heavy rain, extreme heat and cold, wildfires, and other natural disasters.

Similarly, as global warming continues, marine life is being severely impacted. This is causing the extinction of marine species as well as other problems. Furthermore, changes are expected in coral reefs, which will face extinction in the coming years. These effects will intensify in the coming years, effectively halting species expansion. Furthermore, humans will eventually feel the negative effects of Global Warming.

Here are some sample essays on Global Warming:

Essay on Global Warming Paragraph in 100 – 150 words

Global Warming is caused by the increase of carbon dioxide levels in the earth’s atmosphere and is a result of human activities that have been causing harm to our environment for the past few centuries now. Global Warming is something that can’t be ignored and steps have to be taken to tackle the situation globally. The average temperature is constantly rising by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the last few years.

The best method to prevent future damage to the earth, cutting down more forests should be banned and Afforestation should be encouraged. Start by planting trees near your homes and offices, participate in events, and teach the importance of planting trees. It is impossible to undo the damage but it is possible to stop further harm.

Essay on Global Warming in 250 Words

Over a long period, it is observed that the temperature of the earth is increasing. This affected wildlife, animals, humans, and every living organism on earth. Glaciers have been melting, and many countries have started water shortages, flooding, and erosion and all this is because of global warming.

No one can be blamed for global warming except for humans. Human activities such as gases released from power plants, transportation, and deforestation have increased gases such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere.                                              The main question is how can we control the current situation and build a better world for future generations. It starts with little steps by every individual.

Start using cloth bags made from sustainable materials for all shopping purposes, instead of using high-watt lights use energy-efficient bulbs, switch off the electricity, don’t waste water, abolish deforestation and encourage planting more trees. Shift the use of energy from petroleum or other fossil fuels to wind and solar energy. Instead of throwing out the old clothes donate them to someone so that it is recycled.

Donate old books, don’t waste paper.  Above all, spread awareness about global warming. Every little thing a person does towards saving the earth will contribute in big or small amounts. We must learn that 1% effort is better than no effort. Pledge to take care of Mother Nature and speak up about global warming.

Essay on Global Warming in 500 Words

Global warming isn’t a prediction, it is happening! A person denying it or unaware of it is in the most simple terms complicit. Do we have another planet to live on? Unfortunately, we have been bestowed with this one planet only that can sustain life yet over the years we have turned a blind eye to the plight it is in. Global warming is not an abstract concept but a global phenomenon occurring ever so slowly even at this moment. Global Warming is a phenomenon that is occurring every minute resulting in a gradual increase in the Earth’s overall climate. Brought about by greenhouse gases that trap the solar radiation in the atmosphere, global warming can change the entire map of the earth, displacing areas, flooding many countries, and destroying multiple lifeforms. Extreme weather is a direct consequence of global warming but it is not an exhaustive consequence. There are virtually limitless effects of global warming which are all harmful to life on earth. The sea level is increasing by 0.12 inches per year worldwide. This is happening because of the melting of polar ice caps because of global warming. This has increased the frequency of floods in many lowland areas and has caused damage to coral reefs. The Arctic is one of the worst-hit areas affected by global warming. Air quality has been adversely affected and the acidity of the seawater has also increased causing severe damage to marine life forms. Severe natural disasters are brought about by global warming which has had dire effects on life and property. As long as mankind produces greenhouse gases, global warming will continue to accelerate. The consequences are felt at a much smaller scale which will increase to become drastic shortly. The power to save the day lies in the hands of humans, the need is to seize the day. Energy consumption should be reduced on an individual basis. Fuel-efficient cars and other electronics should be encouraged to reduce the wastage of energy sources. This will also improve air quality and reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is an evil that can only be defeated when fought together. It is better late than never. If we all take steps today, we will have a much brighter future tomorrow. Global warming is the bane of our existence and various policies have come up worldwide to fight it but that is not enough. The actual difference is made when we work at an individual level to fight it. Understanding its import now is crucial before it becomes an irrevocable mistake. Exterminating global warming is of utmost importance and each one of us is as responsible for it as the next.

Essay on Global Warming UPSC

Always hear about global warming everywhere, but do we know what it is? The evil of the worst form, global warming is a phenomenon that can affect life more fatally. Global warming refers to the increase in the earth’s temperature as a result of various human activities. The planet is gradually getting hotter and threatening the existence of lifeforms on it. Despite being relentlessly studied and researched, global warming for the majority of the population remains an abstract concept of science. It is this concept that over the years has culminated in making global warming a stark reality and not a concept covered in books. Global warming is not caused by one sole reason that can be curbed. Multifarious factors cause global warming most of which are a part of an individual’s daily existence. Burning of fuels for cooking, in vehicles, and for other conventional uses, a large amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, and methane amongst many others is produced which accelerates global warming. Rampant deforestation also results in global warming as lesser green cover results in an increased presence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas.  Finding a solution to global warming is of immediate importance. Global warming is a phenomenon that has to be fought unitedly. Planting more trees can be the first step that can be taken toward warding off the severe consequences of global warming. Increasing the green cover will result in regulating the carbon cycle. There should be a shift from using nonrenewable energy to renewable energy such as wind or solar energy which causes less pollution and thereby hinder the acceleration of global warming. Reducing energy needs at an individual level and not wasting energy in any form is the most important step to be taken against global warming. The warning bells are tolling to awaken us from the deep slumber of complacency we have slipped into. Humans can fight against nature and it is high time we acknowledged that. With all our scientific progress and technological inventions, fighting off the negative effects of global warming is implausible. We have to remember that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our future generations and the responsibility lies on our shoulders to bequeath them a healthy planet for life to exist.

Climate Change and Global Warming Essay

Global Warming and Climate Change are two sides of the same coin. Both are interrelated with each other and are two issues of major concern worldwide. Greenhouse gases released such as carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere cause Global Warming which leads to climate change. Black holes have started to form in the ozone layer that protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Human activities have created climate change and global warming. Industrial waste and fumes are the major contributors to global warming.

Another factor affecting is the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and also one of the reasons for climate change.  Global warming has resulted in shrinking mountain glaciers in Antarctica, Greenland, and the Arctic and causing climate change. Switching from the use of fossil fuels to energy sources like wind and solar.

When buying any electronic appliance buy the best quality with energy savings stars. Don’t waste water and encourage rainwater harvesting in your community.

With a light rainfall

Branches had been scratching the side of the house for hours. John was resting on the recliner, two fingers through the hole on the armrest, just as he liked it, anchoring his arm as he inhabited the twilight between alertness and rest.

Maeve was visiting with her sister’s family who lived 2 miles up the road. She had left three hours earlier- their oven was out and Maeve had cooked them a meatloaf.

Rationally, Maeve would be back soon. Rationally, he wasn’t hungry- he had made eggs right after she left and had a good late lunch. And, rationally, the branches scratching at the side of the house were just that.

But nothing was rational. His hair, thinning yet still present in wiry, whispy, whiteness had a few pieces standing at attention. His hand could barely control the shakes that his heart produced.

Bernard, the dog, started barking on the porch. John stepped outside to find Bernard, tail wagging, a kitten whimpering in the corner. He took a piece of jerky from the jar he kept between the chairs, and threaded it. Bernard was all attention, but he sent him off into the yard with a snap and a point.

The kitten was smitten with the piece of jerky and John picked her up to his own amazement. He started singing a lullaby that he had sung each of his three children. Once inside, still holding her, he poured the gristle from the frying pan where the eggs had been into a bottle and attached a nipple.

Feeding it to the kitten, whose teeth pirced the nipple, he said, “Just a little.”

Maeve opened the door, closed it, and removed her jacket before she saw him.

“What do you have there?” she asked, voice weary.

“A little friend Bernard made.”

“It’s cute. Beth loved the meatloaf.”

“I’m glad.” He replied. Then his eyes focused on the window darkened by the night sky.

“I do wish Paulie, Georgia and Maggie-” He paused and swallowed. “Would visit again.”

“I do too.” She said, with more than a bit of glimmer in her eye.
