But Republic Day isn't just about remembering the past; it's about embracing the present and building the future. It's the freedom to learn, to dream big and to aim high.  It's the freedom to speak up and have our voices heard.  It's the freedom to be tolerant and to be kind to others.

Happy Republic Day, everyone! Let's march forward, hand in hand, towards a brighter, more glorious India!

Respected principal, teachers, and my dear friends, today we have gathered to celebrate a day that not only marks our victory over the British but also signifies the triumph of our democratic spirit. Happy Republic Day to all!

My dear friends, imagine a world where every single voice matters and every citizen has the right to choose their leaders. Imagine a land where everyone has the right to dream big, and to strive relentlessly to chase those dreams. Republic Day signifies the realisation of a dream of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Thus, my dear friends, it is only through the magic of a republic that we the people are the true kings and queens. Thus,

But sustaining democracy needs our active participation, our respect for different opinions and our commitment to stay united in diversity. We all have heard stories about the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and their indomitable spirit. We should draw inspiration from their courage and emulate their dedication to make our nation stronger.

So, on this Republic Day, let's pledge to be worthy citizens of this great land. Let's promise to be kind, responsible, and active participants in our democracy. Let's embrace each other’s differences, celebrate our diversity, and work together to build a future that is even more glorious than the one our freedom fighters dreamt of.

Honorable Principal Sir, respected brothers and sisters, and my dear friends. As we all know today is the 75th Republic Day of India. My Name is [Harsh Kumar] and on this prestigious day, I have got a chance to deliver my Republic Day speech in front of you all.

As we know the Indian constitution was adhered to on 26 Jan 1950 with a certain set of rules and regulations. Today we have gathered here to celebrate the victory of Republic Day and in the memory of great men like Rajendra Prasad, Subhash Chandra Bosh, and Mahatma Gandhi.

The Constitution of India is the longest-written constitution in the world. The time duration taken to draft the Indian constitution was 2 years, 11 months, and 11 days. It was drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to establish the structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions, and set out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens.

Republic Day is a celebration of our unity in diversity. India has different cultures, languages, religions, and traditions. Our tricolor flag symbolizes this unity – the saffron color signifies strength and courage, the white middle band indicates peace and truth with the Dharma Chakra, and the green shows the fertility, growth, and auspiciousness of our land.

As we celebrate this day, let us also acknowledge the progress India has made over the years. Our advancements in technology, medicine, science, and space exploration have put us on the world map.

However, our journey is not without challenges. We are a nation at a crossroads, grappling with issues of poverty, inequality, environmental degradation, and social injustice. These challenges call for collective action, innovation, and a commitment to the principles of our Constitution.

On this day, let us also remember and pay tribute to our brave soldiers who guard our borders and ensure our safety, and to the countless freedom fighters whose sacrifices led to the birth of this Republic. Their courage and love for the motherland continue to inspire us.

Currently, we need to fulfill the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to make India a developed country and we youth can decide what India will be next 5 years.

As we know on Republic Day, The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has been invited to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations. We have started achieving new heights again. From Chandrayaan 2 to the IT sector, India made significant growth.

At last, I want to thank all of our soldiers and the brave people who are helping India to rapidly achieve new heights in development.

Today, as we gather to celebrate the 75th Republic Day of our great nation, I am filled with a deep sense of pride and patriotism. On this day, back in 1950, India adopted its Constitution, embarking on a remarkable journey as a sovereign, democratic republic.

The Constitution of India, the longest written constitution in the world, is not just a document but the soul of our nation. It embodies the hopes and aspirations of billions of Indians and serves as a guiding light for our democratic values and principles.

  • Constitution of India

Drafted by the Constituent Assembly with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee, it laid down the framework defining fundamental political principles, established the structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions, and set out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens.

“In the land of diversity, where dreams take flight, On this Republic Day, let’s shine so bright. With freedom in our hearts, and faith in our might, Pride in our unity, we stand for what’s right.”

As we celebrate this day, let us also acknowledge the progress India has made over the years. From a nascent nation struggling with the challenges of post-colonial development, India has emerged as a global player in various fields. Our advancements in technology, medicine, science, and space exploration have put us on the world map. Our economy, one of the fastest-growing in the world, continues to show resilience and potential.

Looking ahead, the youth of our nation hold the key to our future. With one of the largest young populations in the world, India’s hope lies in empowering these young minds with education, opportunities, and the right values. We must strive to build an India where every child has access to quality education, every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, and where inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation are the cornerstones of our development.

As we celebrate Republic Day, let’s renew our commitment to our nation – to uphold the values enshrined in our Constitution, to work towards an inclusive and progressive India, and to fulfill the dreams of our founding fathers. Let us pledge to contribute in our ways to the nation’s growth and prosperity.

Republic Day 2024 Speech in English: 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

The annual celebration of Republic Day, which falls on January 26th, is a major celebration in India. It marks the day when our nation adopted its Constitution, a significant milestone in our history.

The journey towards the adoption of the Constitution began soon after India gained independence on August 15, 1947. A committee was established, and on August 29, 1947, a Constituent Assembly was convened with the task of writing a new Constitution for the country. B.R. Ambedkar was appointed as the leader of this group, and over the course of two years, 11 months, and 18 days, the Constitution was drafted.

On January 26, 1950, the Constitution was officially proclaimed. This day holds a special significance as it is also the day when the proclamation of Poorna Swaraj was made in 1930 and Jawaharlal Nehru was elected as the leader of the Indian National Congress.

While Independence Day is celebrated on August 15, the Indian National Congress had already celebrated it on the same day in 1930, before India officially gained independence in 1947. Therefore, August 15th is observed as Independence Day, and January 26th is celebrated as Republic Day.

During Republic Day celebrations, patriotism and love for our nation are at the forefront. The main celebration takes place in the capital, New Delhi, with a grand parade and the President of India hoisting the national flag and giving a speech. People across the country participate in cultural programs and patriotic events to celebrate this day.

As we celebrate the 73rd Republic Day of our great nation, let us remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, the contributions of the Constitution-makers, and pledge to uphold the values and principles of our Constitution.

Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26th, is a day of great national pride and celebration in India. It marks the day when our nation officially adopted a democratic republic government and declared its independence. On January 26, 1950, India became an independent, secular, socialist, and democratic republic, almost three years after gaining independence from British rule.

The origins of Republic Day can be traced back to August 15, 1947, when India gained independence from British rule. However, at that time, the nation did not have a formal constitution in place to govern the country properly. To address this, a constitutional drafting committee was established on August 28, 1947, with B.R. Ambedkar as its head. The committee, after 166 days of extensive deliberation, presented its final proposal to the Constituent Assembly on November 4, 1947.

One of the main objectives of the drafting committee was to ensure universal protections for all citizens, regardless of their faith, culture, caste, sex, or creed. The Constitution, which was finally adopted on January 26th, 1950, struck a delicate balance between the various interests and aspirations of the people.

On this day, Rajendra Prasad was inaugurated as India's first President, and the first session of the Indian Parliament was held. Republic Day not only marks the end of British rule but also the establishment of the Indian Republic.

Celebrations

The celebrations on Republic Day are a true reflection of the unity and diversity of our nation. The main event takes place in the capital city of New Delhi, with a grand parade showcasing the military might of the country and the richness of our cultural heritage. The President of India hoists the national flag, and the military responds with a 21-gun salute and a performance of the national anthem.

Many schools across the country also participate in these celebrations by organizing marches and cultural programs, which serve as a source of inspiration and pride for the citizens. Welcome Speech for Republic Day

India Republic Day, celebrated on 26th January, is an occasion for celebrations in all schools. Students would require a well-prepared welcome speech for this occasion. The speech written in an excellent manner is provided by Vedantu. Students can refer to the speech to get familiar with what to deliver on such occasions. Given below is an anchoring script for republic day celebration in school in English. Check out our 26 January Republic Day blog for Happy Republic Day 2024 Quotes and India Republic Day quotes.

Introduction Speech on India Republic Day

Long speech.

A very warm good morning to one and all present here. I am Rahul, a student of Class 8. I am here to present a speech on the auspicious occasion of 26 January Republic Day. I am glad as I am chosen to present this speech and welcome everyone to this occasion. Today, India celebrates its 75th Republic day. On this day, I on behalf of the school committee, welcome our honourable chief guest. I would like to extend a warm welcome and heartfelt greetings to our honourable principal, vice-principal, respected teachers, and my dear schoolmates. We all have gathered here today to celebrate India Republic Day 2024 and commemorate India’s 75 years of democracy.

I have got this wonderful opportunity to come on the stage and deliver the welcome occasion speech. I would like to talk about my beloved country on this occasion of Republic Day and how is Republic Day celebrated in India. We all must know India celebrates Republic Day on 26 January as the Constitution of India came into existence on this day in 1950. This not only made us a republic but also made the people of India the highest authority in the country.

Our freedom fighters had struggled and sacrificed their lives so that the future of India is not under slavery. Freedom strugglers like Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar Azad, and many more must be remembered. We must pay tribute to them on today’s occasion.

India won Independence on August 15th, 1947. About 200 years of British rule came to an end on this day. Even after independence, India was facing Hindu-Muslim riots and corruption. It was the duty of each member of free India to return the country to its glory. After rigorous efforts, the constitution was finally implemented in a full-fledged manner on January 26, 1950. The credit for drafting the Indian constitution goes to B.R. Ambedkar. He was a member of the Constituent Drafting Committee who is considered the chief architect of the constitution of India. 26 January Republic Day is celebrated as colourfully organized cultural events all over the country. Every citizen of India is filled with pride and happiness on the occasion. They play patriotic songs and enjoy sweet dishes to mark the celebrations.

India’s constitution is considered one of the best in the world. India is the largest democracy. However, India is still pulled back by crime, corruption, violence, terrorism, etc. After so many years of being a republic nation, India is still under the captivity of such nation-wide issues. As true citizens of the country, our responsibility is to work towards the development of the country and protect our land as true patriots!

Thank you for your patient hearing.

Short Speech

Warm good morning and greetings to each one present here. I am Sandhya, a Grade 4 student. I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to welcome esteemed guests, our honourable principal, teachers, and my dear friends to the republic day celebration. India is celebrating its 75th Republic Day today. I welcome each one to this auspicious occasion. India Republic Day (26th January) marks the celebration of the implementation of the Indian Constitution on this date in 1950. Indian constitution is the longest written constitution in the whole world. India’s freedom struggle has been noteworthy where many freedom fighters had to sacrifice their lives so that India breathes the air of freedom. Indian constitution is also the result of the hard work of B.R. Ambedkar. He drafted the constitution which came to force on January 26, 1950.

How is Republic Day celebrated in India, you may ask? The main celebration of India Republic Day is held at the Rajpath in New Delhi before the president of India. The parades are organized at the Rajpath which takes place as a tribute to India and its rich culture. On this day, many schools and colleges around the nation organize flag hoisting and functions in their premises.

We are all gathered here to celebrate the achievement of the finest democracy in the world. This day reminds us of our freedom struggle and how we received ‘Purn Swaraj’ or complete independence. Today, we can enjoy many rights and privileges as a citizen of this country. Some of these rights are the right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion. Cultural and educational rights, etc. However, the true attainment of a republic is a consequence of the long struggles of our freedom fighters. We must never forget them and celebrate this day every year with the same joy and pride.

10 Lines on Welcome Speech for Happy Republic Day

A warm good morning to the respected Principal, teachers, guests, and my dear fellow students.

I feel elated to speak in front of you all about today’s occasion.

We are here to celebrate the 75th Republic Day of our country.

A Happy Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January every year because the constitution came into effect on this date in 1950.

We hoist the national flag on this day and sing patriotic songs. We give tribute to our freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our country.

India got independence from British rule on August 15, 1947. However, it took some time to bring the longest written constitution into force.

On this day, schools also organize functions, flag hoisting, and various competitions.

We eat sweets and various Indian snacks on this occasion.

Celebration in the true sense means to realize the importance of being a republic nation and fulfilling our duties as true citizens.

Thank you all for hearing my speech with patience.

As we celebrate Republic Day, let us embrace the spirit of unity, diversity, and patriotism that defines our great nation. This occasion serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our forefathers to secure the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. As students, it is our responsibility to uphold these values and contribute to the progress of our country. Let this day inspire us to work towards a harmonious and prosperous future, where every citizen can thrive. Together, let us build a stronger, more resilient India, where the flame of democracy continues to illuminate our path towards a brighter tomorrow. Jai Hind!

It is a day of pride, patriotism, and reflection on the nation’s progress. Crafting an engaging anchoring script for Republic Day requires careful planning, a deep understanding of the event’s importance, and the ability to connect with the audience on an emotional level. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you write a compelling anchoring script for Republic Day.

Table of Contents

Understand the Event

Before you start writing, gather comprehensive details about the event:

  • Theme:  Understand if there is a specific theme for this year’s Republic Day celebration.
  • Schedule:  Obtain a detailed itinerary of the event, including flag hoisting, speeches, cultural performances, and any special segments.
  • Participants:  Know the key participants such as the chief guest, dignitaries, performers, and students.
  • Audience:  Recognize who will be attending – students, teachers, parents, and community members.

Structure Your Script

A well-structured script is crucial for a seamless and engaging event. Typically, an anchoring script includes the following sections:

Introduction

Welcome address, event segments, transitions, closing remarks.

Start with a vibrant and patriotic opening to capture the audience’s attention. Introduce yourself and your co-anchor, if any, and set the tone for the event. Briefly outline the significance of Republic Day and what the audience can expect.

Deliver a warm and heartfelt welcome speech that acknowledges the presence of dignitaries, guests, teachers, students, and the community. Highlight the importance of Republic Day in celebrating India’s democracy and progress.

Introduce each segment of the event clearly and concisely. Here are some common segments you might include:

  • Flag Hoisting:  Announce the flag hoisting ceremony and invite the chief guest and other dignitaries to the stage. Ensure the national anthem is sung with reverence.
  • Speeches:  Introduce speeches by students, teachers, or special guests who share their thoughts on the significance of Republic Day and the nation’s progress.

  • Special Presentations:  Announce any special presentations, such as a speech by the chief guest or a presentation on India’s achievements.

Smooth transitions between segments are crucial for maintaining the event’s flow. Use connecting phrases and brief commentary to bridge the gap between different parts of the program. This helps keep the audience engaged and ensures the event progresses seamlessly.

Conclude the event on a high note. Thank everyone involved in organizing the celebration, including participants, volunteers, and the audience. Acknowledge any sponsors or supporters and leave the audience with a thoughtful closing statement that reflects the spirit of Republic Day and its importance.

Fact-checking the False claim that the Trump’s NY jury verdict doesn’t have to be unanimous

If your time is short.

On May 29, Juan Merchan, the judge in former President Donald Trump’s Manhattan trial, gave the jury instructions for their deliberation, which are posted online.

He told jurors that to find Trump guilty, they must agree unanimously on two things: that Trump falsified business records and that he did so intending to commit a separate crime.

Merchan said jurors did not have to agree unanimously on what the separate crime was that Trump intended to commit.

As the jury in the Manhattan trial of former President Donald Trump headed toward deliberation May 29, Judge Juan Merchan gave jurors their instructions.

Once the instructions filtered onto social media, however, they were distorted.

"Judge Merchan has instructed the jury they do not need to have a UNANIMOUS verdict in order to convict former President Donald J. Trump," former Fox News writer and producer Kyle Becker wrote May 29 on X .

"This is insane," the conservative End Wokeness X account posted a few minutes later to its 2.5 million followers. "New York Judge Merchan just told jurors that they DO NOT have to unanimously agree on what crime Trump is guilty of."

Other social media posts, including from Trump-aligned political strategist Steve Bannon , also claimed the jury verdict did not have to be unanimous. The posts echoed a statement Trump made May 26 on Truth Social that said Merchan imparted "FAKE options for the jury to choose from, without requiring them to be unanimous, which is completely UNAMERICAN AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL."

Trump’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

The posts are inaccurate. If the jury decides to convict, Merchan told them, jurors must agree unanimously on two things: that Trump falsified business records and that he did so intending to commit a separate crime.

Juror unanimity is not necessary on what separate crime Trump intended to commit. Merchan cited three possible crimes: violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act; the falsification of other business records; and a violation of tax laws.

Jurors "all need to agree on the verdict, but they can get to that result through different paths and reasoning," said Cheryl G. Bader, a Fordham University associate clinical law professor.

Duncan P. Levin, a Brooklyn, New York-based lawyer with Levin & Associates PLLC, called the social media spin on Marchan’s instructions "absurd."

"It has to be unanimous on the elements of the crime," namely that Trump "caused business records to be filed (and) intended to conceal election by unlawful means," Levin said. But it doesn’t have to be unanimous on the means, he said.

"That is not unusual at all. (It’s) very standard," Levin said. "Someone can be convicted of murder even if the jurors disagree about the type of murder weapon."

Featured Fact-check

In his instructions , Merchan told jurors that any verdict must be unanimous.

"Your verdict, on each count you consider, whether guilty or not guilty, must be unanimous; that is, each and every juror must agree to it," Merchan said. "To reach a unanimous verdict, you must deliberate with the other jurors."

That’s standard in criminal law: The New York jury handbook says that in a criminal case, "a finding that the defendant is guilty or not guilty must be by unanimous vote of the jury."

But Merchan offered caveats about what aspects of a jury’s decision could diverge.

Merchan said, "In order to find the defendant guilty, however, you need not be unanimous on whether the defendant committed the crime personally, or by acting in concert with another, or both."

He also said, "Although you must conclude unanimously that the defendant conspired to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means, you need not be unanimous as to what those unlawful means were."

Neama Rahmani, a former prosecutor who co-founded the firm West Coast Trial Lawyers, said, "The verdict has to be unanimous, but the jurors don’t have to agree on the other crime that the false business records furthered or covered up."

Bill Otis, former head of the Appellate Division of the U.S. attorney’s office for Virginia’s Eastern District and special counsel to former President George H.W. Bush, said that although this split structure for jury decisions is common, he understands why Trump allies express concern about it. Otis said the parts of this case that do not require the jury’s unanimity are unusually central to the question of Trump’s guilt.

For this reason, Otis said, it could become a ripe issue for an appeals court to consider, if Trump is convicted.

Social media posts said Merchan told jurors the verdict in Trump’s trial does not need to be unanimous.

That’s not what Merchan said. To convict, the jurors must agree unanimously on two things: that Trump falsified business records, and that he did so intending to commit a separate crime. "Your verdict, on each count you consider, whether guilty or not guilty, must be unanimous," Merchan said.

The social media posts conflated this requirement with other aspects of the deliberations that don’t require unanimity — notably, which specific crime the jurors believe Trump tried to commit by falsifying business records. The judge said jurors would need to believe only that at least one of three cited crimes could be the one furthered by the records falsification.

We rate this statement False.

The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW Washington, DC 20500

Remarks by President   Biden at the 156th National Memorial Day Observance | Arlington,   VA

Arlington National Cemetery Arlington, Virginia

11:24 A.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. (Applause.) Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please be seated.

One hundred and sixty years ago this month, in the midst of the Civil War, the first American soldier was laid to rest at these hallowed grounds. Private William Christman, a farmworker from Pennsylvania, had enlisted just seven weeks before. There was no formal ceremony to consecrate this new sanctuary, no fanfore — fanfare.

It came at a turning point in the war. As fighting shifted east, the casualties quickly mounted in the bloody, grinding campaign.

Over the next year, William would be joined in death, as he was in life, by his brother-in-arms in this final resting place. And these hills around us would be transformed from a former slave plantation into a national strine — shine for those American heroes who died for freedom, who died for us.

My fellow Americans, Jill, Vice President Harris, the Second Gentleman Emhoff, Secretary Austin, General Brown; most importantly, the veterans and service members, families, and survivors — we gather at this sacred place at this solemn moment to remember, to honor — honor the sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands of women and men who’ve given their lives for this nation.

Each one, literally, a chain in the link — a link in the chain of honor stretching back to our founding days. Each one bound by common commitment — not to a place, not to a person, not to a President, but to an idea unlike any idea in human history: the idea of the United States of America.

Today, we bear witness to the price they paid. Every white stone across these hills, in every military cemetery and churchyard across America: a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a spouse, a neighbor — an American.

To everyone who has lost and loved someone in the service of our country, to everyone with a loved one still missing or unaccounted for, I know how hard it can be. It can reopen that black hole in the middle of your chest, bringing you back to the exact moment you got that phone call, heard that knock on the door, or held the hand when the last breath was taken. I know it hurts. The hurt is still real, still raw.

This week marks nine years since I lost my son, Beau. Our losses are not the same. He didn’t perish on the battlefield. He was a cancer victim from a consequence of being in the Army in Iraq for a year next to a burn pit — a major in the U.S. National — Army National Guard, living and working, like too many, besides that toxic burn pit.

And as it is for so many of you, the pain of his loss is with me every day, as it is with you — still sharp, still clear. But so is the pride I feel in his service, as if I can still hear him saying, “It’s my duty, Dad. It’s my duty.”

Duty. That was the code of — my son lived by and the creed all of you live by, the creed that generations of service members have followed into battle.

On the grounds around us lie fallen heroes from every major conflict in history to defend our independence, to preserve our Union, to defeat fascism; built powerful alliances, forged in fires of two world wars.

Members of the Greatest Generation, who 80 years ago next week, took to the beaches of Normandy and liberated a continent and literally saved the world.

Others who stood against communism in Korea and Vietnam.

And not far from here, in Section 60, lie over a thousand — a thousand — 7,054 women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan and Iraq, who signed up to defeat terrorists, protect our homeland after 9/11.

Decade after decade, tour after tour, these warriors fought for our freedom and the freedom of others, because freedom has never been guaranteed. Every generation has to earn it; fight for it; defend it in battle between autocracy and democracy, between the greed of a few and the rights of many. It matters.

Our democracy is more than just a system of government. It’s the very soul of America. It’s how we’ve been able to constantly adapt through the centuries. It’s why we’ve always emerged from every challenge stronger than we went in. And it’s how we come together as one nation united.

And just as our fallen heroes have kept the ultimate faith with our country and our democracy, we must keep faith with them.

I’ve long said we have many obligations as a nation. But we only have one truly sacred obligation: to prepare those we send into battle and to pr- — take care of them and their families when they come home and when they don’t.

Since I took office, I’ve signed over 30 bipartisan laws supporting servicemen, veterans and their families and caregivers, and survivors.

Last year, the VA delivered more benefits and processed more claims than ever in our history. And the PACT Act, which I was proud to have signed, has already guaranteed one million claims helping veterans exposed to toxic materials during their service — one million.

For too long, after fighting for our nation, these veterans had to fight to get the right healthcare, to get the benefits they had earned. Not anymore.

Our nation came together to ensure the burden is no longer on them to prove their illness was service-related, whether it was Agent Orange or toxic waste, to ensure they protected them — they just have to protect the United States — because it’s assumed that their death was a consequence of the exposure.

On this day, we came together again to reflect, to remember, but above all, to recommit to the future they fought for — a future grounded in freedom, democracy, opportunity, and equality. Not just for some, but for all.

America is the only country in the world founded on an idea — an idea that all people are created equal and deserve to be treated equally throughout their lives.

We’ve never fully lived up to that, but we’ve never, ever, ever walked away from it. Every generation, our fallen heroes have brought us closer.

Today, we’re not just fortunate heirs of their legacy. We have a responsibility to be the keepers of their mission. That — that truest memorial of their lives: the actions we take every day to ensure that our democracy endures, the very idea of America endures.

Ladies and gentlemen, 160 years ago, the first American solider was laid to rest on these hallowed grounds. There were no big ceremonies, no big speeches, no family mour- — family members to mourn their loss, just the quiet grief of the rolling green hills surrounding them.

Today, we join that grief with gratitude: gratitude to our fallen heroes, gratitude to the families left behind, and gratitude to the brave souls who continue to uphold the flame of liberty all across our country and around the world.

Because of them, all of them, that we stand here today. We will never forget that. We will never, ever, ever stop working for — to make a more perfect Union, which they lived and which they died for.

That was their promise. That’s our promise — our promise today to them. That’s our promise always.

God bless the fallen. May God bless their families. And may God protect our troops.

Thank you. (Applause.)
