Every person's life is greatly influenced by the passage of time, whether it be through daily activities like rising from bed, cleaning one's teeth, taking a shower, eating meals on schedule, or making plans for significant life events.

People frequently place greater importance on other things in their lives than time. The most valuable resource in life is time, not money. If you don't have enough time to enjoy your wealth, no amount of money you make will be worth anything. You cannot see or catch time, but you must move with it because it is constantly moving. Time is like air. Without anyone recognising it, it is like a wave that endlessly flows. The ones that are successful in life are those who are aware of this ever-flowing wave and who create effective routines to use their time well. And those who fail do so regretfully, always wishing they could go back.

One of the most priceless possessions a person is born with is time. Time never turns around and always continues in one direction. Time won't value you if you don't appreciate it. Time is a crucial component of success when discussing its progression. Our time has the power to ruin us if we waste it. Time is beautiful because it is with time how things develop, mature, and then die. It bears witness to a vast array of memories and choices, both good and negative. Since no one controls time, it is crucial to appreciate its significance.

For example, if you place a frog in a pot of boiling water, the frog begins to adjust to the temperature of the water. As the temperature gradually rises, the frog adjusts its body temperature accordingly. It does not understand when to jump out of the pot and thus continues to adapt. It eventually succumbs to the heat and perishes in the boiling water. The moral of the story is that we must recognise which decisions we must make before time runs out. Maintaining patience in certain situations and using your mind to solve them is critical. Panicking will only waste your time and resources.

Time is the agent of change, claimed to be a law of nature. Everything we do in life, including growing up, finishing school, earning a degree, and landing a job, depends on how we manage our time. Because of this, it's crucial to teach kids time management skills at a young age. Daily activities must be done on time, including eating, sleeping, exercising, and completing assignments. Present takes to future. Past pushes us into present while present takes us into future which is quite unknown and undefined. There is only today, there is no yesterday and tomorrow.Today is everything.

It is believed that future of someone is defined in the state of present. One who takes good use of present the future shines while one who wastes present time he or she waste future. On the whole time is very limited and most valued resource of life.

Time is divided into seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades and centuries. Every second is important in life.

As most students discover, time in college is not the same as it was in high school. There are many more “unscripted” hours of the day. Fewer hours are devoted to sitting in a classroom, but more hours are expected to be devoted to classwork, on your own. While this can be liberating, you may find that social opportunities conflict with academic expectations. For example, a free day before an exam, if not wisely spent, can spell trouble for doing well on the exam. It is easy to fall behind when there are so many choices and opportunities.

In the next few sections, we’ll take three steps towards learning to effectively manage our time. First, we have to see where we are, currently, with our use of time.

Step 1: Identify Your Time Management Style

The following self-assessment survey can help you determine your time-management personality type. Read each question in the Questions column. Then read the possible responses. Select one response for each question. Each response should reflect what you probably would do in a given situation, not what you think is the “right” answer. Put a checkmark in the My Time Management Type column next to your likely response.

Assessing Your Responses

Which of the four basic time-management personality types did you select the most? Which did you select the least? Do you feel like these selections match the student you have been in the past? Has your previous way of doing things worked for you, or do you think it’s time for a change? Remember, we can all always improve!

The Early Bird

Traits : You like to make checklists and feel great satisfaction when you can cross something off of your to-do list. When it comes to assignments, you want to get started as soon as possible (and maybe start brainstorming before that), because it lets you stay in control.
Strengths : You know what you want and are driven to figure out how to achieve it. Motivation is never really a problem for you.
Challenges : Sometimes you can get more caught up in getting things done as quickly as possible and don’t give yourself enough time to really mull over issues in all of their complexity.
Tips for Success : You’re extremely organized and on top of your schoolwork, so make sure you take time to really enjoy learning in your classes. Remember, school isn’t all deadlines and checkboxes—you also have the opportunity to think about big-picture intellectual problems that don’t necessarily have clear answers.

The Balancing Act

Traits : You really know what you’re capable of and are ready to do what it takes to get the most out of your classes. Maybe you’re naturally gifted in this way or maybe it’s a skill that you have developed over time; in any case, you should have the basic organizational skills to succeed in any class, as long as you keep your balance.
Strengths : Your strength really lies in your ability to be well rounded. You may not always complete assignments perfectly every time, but you are remarkably consistent and usually manage to do very well in classes.
Challenges : Because you’re so consistent, sometimes you can get in a bit of a rut and begin to coast in class, rather than really challenging yourself.
Tips for Success : Instead of simply doing what works, use each class as an opportunity for growth by engaging thoughtfully with the material and constantly pushing the boundaries of your own expectations for yourself.

The Pressure Cooker

Traits : You always get things done and almost always at the last minute. Hey, it takes time to really come up with good ideas!
Strengths : You work well under pressure, and when you do finally sit down to accomplish a task, you can sit and work for hours. In these times, you can be extremely focused and shut out the rest of the world in order to complete what’s needed.
Challenges : You sometimes use your ability to work under pressure as an excuse to procrastinate. Sure, you can really focus when the deadline is tomorrow, but is it really the best work you could produce if you had a couple of days of cushion?
Tips for Success : Give yourself small, achievable deadlines, and stick to them. Make sure they’re goals that you really could (and would) achieve in a day. Then don’t allow yourself to make excuses. You’ll find that it’s actually a lot more enjoyable to not be stressed out when completing schoolwork. Who would have known?

The Improviser

Traits : You frequently wait until the last minute to do assignments, but it’s because you’ve been able to get away with this habit in many classes. Sometimes you miss an assignment or two, or have to pretend to have done reading that you haven’t, but everyone does that sometimes, right?
Strengths : You think quickly on your feet, and while this is a true strength, it also can be a crutch that prevents you from being really successful in a class.
Challenges : As the saying goes, old habits die hard. If you find that you lack a foundation of discipline and personal accountability, it can be difficult to change, especially when the course material becomes challenging or you find yourself struggling to keep up with the pace of the class.
Tips for Success : The good news is you can turn this around! Make a plan to organize your time and materials in a reasonable way, and really stick with it. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your instructor for help, but be sure to do it before, rather than after, you fall behind.

Most people have problems with managing time to the point of going to study or read books, magazines and listen to lessons about time management. Time management is very important and it acts as a factor of separating successful individuals from failures. Correct use of time helps accomplishment of tasks with fewer efforts, improvement in the ability to make decisions, and most importantly reduce stress.

Correct use of time involves being productive on the job, remaining healthy both physically and mentally, and balancing of issues. One is therefore in a position to spend time with family, friends and still be the best at the place of work. However, any failure to use time correctly has many significant consequences. It is possible to lose your job because of failure to work within timelines. Furthermore, time with family and friends is likely to be limited hence causing broken relationships. There are various factors that can enable one use their time correctly.

Creating the right working environment enables one to use their time productively. Right environment can include factors like surrounding yourself with decorations that can inspire your brain hence enhancing the enthusiasm and passion of working. The right environment should also be free of distractions such as television. Distractions will always cause one to lose the concentration. Right environment can enable one to productively work for long hours and produce best results.

In addition, the listing of tasks in terms of priority and importance is necessary for correct use of time. The first thing to do before beginning the daily workload should always be planning and prioritizing tasks. For instance, urgent and important tasks can be given priority while those that are important but not urgent can be put on wait list. It is, therefore, necessary to handle vital tasks first. Finishing important and urgent tasks in early hours of the day is likely to give the sense of accomplishment hence a relaxed mind.

Closely related is avoiding procrastination when handling different tasks. There is a likelihood of distractions in terms of incoming emails, political discussions, and others when handling various tasks. It is common for people to drift away from vital tasks and promise themselves to work later. Pushing forward of important and urgent tasks will automatically result in stress because of allocated timelines. It is, therefore, crucial to avoid procrastination and remain focused on finishing tasks.

Correct use of time involves the setting of goals to achieve within a certain period. The goals should remain realistic and achievable within the specified duration. In relation to this, it is necessary to examine the current situation and determine the important goals. It is, therefore, easier to make a plan of how to achieve the goals. The end results are likely to be positive and productive.

Finally, it is necessary to organize personal time. This can be through identifying life factors that result in wasting a lot of time without seeing results. One can write down all the weekly activities and assess if they use or misuse time when carrying out the tasks. After identifying the areas that result in consumed time without observable results, it will be easy to work on priority factors.

When do you write an argumentative essay, approaches to argumentative essays, introducing your argument, the body: developing your argument, concluding your argument, other interesting articles, frequently asked questions about argumentative essays.

You might be assigned an argumentative essay as a writing exercise in high school or in a composition class. The prompt will often ask you to argue for one of two positions, and may include terms like “argue” or “argument.” It will frequently take the form of a question.

The prompt may also be more open-ended in terms of the possible arguments you could make.

Argumentative writing at college level

At university, the vast majority of essays or papers you write will involve some form of argumentation. For example, both rhetorical analysis and literary analysis essays involve making arguments about texts.

In this context, you won’t necessarily be told to write an argumentative essay—but making an evidence-based argument is an essential goal of most academic writing, and this should be your default approach unless you’re told otherwise.

Examples of argumentative essay prompts

At a university level, all the prompts below imply an argumentative essay as the appropriate response.

Your research should lead you to develop a specific position on the topic. The essay then argues for that position and aims to convince the reader by presenting your evidence, evaluation and analysis.

Don’t just list all the effects you can think of.
Do develop a focused argument about the overall effect and why it matters, backed up by evidence from sources.
Don’t just provide a selection of data on the measures’ effectiveness.
Do build up your own argument about which kinds of measures have been most or least effective, and why.
Don’t just analyze a random selection of doppelgänger characters.
Do form an argument about specific texts, comparing and contrasting how they express their thematic concerns through doppelgänger characters.

An argumentative essay should be objective in its approach; your arguments should rely on logic and evidence, not on exaggeration or appeals to emotion.

There are many possible approaches to argumentative essays, but there are two common models that can help you start outlining your arguments: The Toulmin model and the Rogerian model.

Toulmin arguments

The Toulmin model consists of four steps, which may be repeated as many times as necessary for the argument:

Make a claim
Provide the grounds (evidence) for the claim
Explain the warrant (how the grounds support the claim)
Discuss possible rebuttals to the claim, identifying the limits of the argument and showing that you have considered alternative perspectives

The Toulmin model is a common approach in academic essays. You don’t have to use these specific terms (grounds, warrants, rebuttals), but establishing a clear connection between your claims and the evidence supporting them is crucial in an argumentative essay.

Say you’re making an argument about the effectiveness of workplace anti-discrimination measures. You might:

Claim that unconscious bias training does not have the desired results, and resources would be better spent on other approaches
Cite data to support your claim
Explain how the data indicates that the method is ineffective
Anticipate objections to your claim based on other data, indicating whether these objections are valid, and if not, why not.

Rogerian arguments

The Rogerian model also consists of four steps you might repeat throughout your essay:

Discuss what the opposing position gets right and why people might hold this position
Highlight the problems with this position
Present your own position , showing how it addresses these problems
Suggest a possible compromise —what elements of your position would proponents of the opposing position benefit from adopting?

This model builds up a clear picture of both sides of an argument and seeks a compromise. It is particularly useful when people tend to disagree strongly on the issue discussed, allowing you to approach opposing arguments in good faith.

Say you want to argue that the internet has had a positive impact on education. You might:

Acknowledge that students rely too much on websites like Wikipedia
Argue that teachers view Wikipedia as more unreliable than it really is
Suggest that Wikipedia’s system of citations can actually teach students about referencing
Suggest critical engagement with Wikipedia as a possible assignment for teachers who are skeptical of its usefulness.

You don’t necessarily have to pick one of these models—you may even use elements of both in different parts of your essay—but it’s worth considering them if you struggle to structure your arguments.

Regardless of which approach you take, your essay should always be structured using an introduction , a body , and a conclusion .

Like other academic essays, an argumentative essay begins with an introduction . The introduction serves to capture the reader’s interest, provide background information, present your thesis statement , and (in longer essays) to summarize the structure of the body.

The spread of the internet has had a world-changing effect, not least on the world of education. The use of the internet in academic contexts is on the rise, and its role in learning is hotly debated. For many teachers who did not grow up with this technology, its effects seem alarming and potentially harmful. This concern, while understandable, is misguided. The negatives of internet use are outweighed by its critical benefits for students and educators—as a uniquely comprehensive and accessible information source; a means of exposure to and engagement with different perspectives; and a highly flexible learning environment.

The body of an argumentative essay is where you develop your arguments in detail. Here you’ll present evidence, analysis, and reasoning to convince the reader that your thesis statement is true.

In the standard five-paragraph format for short essays, the body takes up three of your five paragraphs. In longer essays, it will be more paragraphs, and might be divided into sections with headings.

Each paragraph covers its own topic, introduced with a topic sentence . Each of these topics must contribute to your overall argument; don’t include irrelevant information.

This example paragraph takes a Rogerian approach: It first acknowledges the merits of the opposing position and then highlights problems with that position.

A common frustration for teachers is students’ use of Wikipedia as a source in their writing. Its prevalence among students is not exaggerated; a survey found that the vast majority of the students surveyed used Wikipedia (Head & Eisenberg, 2010). An article in The Guardian stresses a common objection to its use: “a reliance on Wikipedia can discourage students from engaging with genuine academic writing” (Coomer, 2013). Teachers are clearly not mistaken in viewing Wikipedia usage as ubiquitous among their students; but the claim that it discourages engagement with academic sources requires further investigation. This point is treated as self-evident by many teachers, but Wikipedia itself explicitly encourages students to look into other sources. Its articles often provide references to academic publications and include warning notes where citations are missing; the site’s own guidelines for research make clear that it should be used as a starting point, emphasizing that users should always “read the references and check whether they really do support what the article says” (“Wikipedia:Researching with Wikipedia,” 2020). Indeed, for many students, Wikipedia is their first encounter with the concepts of citation and referencing. The use of Wikipedia therefore has a positive side that merits deeper consideration than it often receives.

An argumentative essay ends with a conclusion that summarizes and reflects on the arguments made in the body.

No new arguments or evidence appear here, but in longer essays you may discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your argument and suggest topics for future research. In all conclusions, you should stress the relevance and importance of your argument.

समय का सदुपयोग हमारे जीवन में सफलता की कुंजी है। ना जाने मौत कब दस्तक देने आ जाए इसीलिए मनुष्य को प्रतिदिन समय का सही सदुपयोग करते हुए अपने जीवन को सफल बनाना चाहिए। अनिश्चित और नश्वर जीवन में हमें बहुत से कार्यों को पूरा करना है।

अर्थात- कल का काम आज ही कर लेना चाहिए। आज का काम अभी कर लेना चाहिए। ना जाने समय कब नष्ट हो जाये और बाद में पछतावा हो।

अगर समय एक बार हाथ से छूट जाए तो पछताने के अलावा। और कुछ नहीं बचता। इसीलिए कहावत है कि-

अब पछताए होत क्या जब चिड़िया चुग गई खेत

अर्थात- इस पंक्ति द्वारा समय का महत्व करने को बताया गया है। समय हरपाल महत्वपूर्ण है। यदि हम उसका सदुपयोग ना करें तो हम अपने जीवन में कुछ भी हासिल नहीं कर पाएंगे।

जैसे- एक पल की देरी करने वाला व्यक्ति छुटी हुई रेलगाड़ी को भी नहीं पकड़ पाता देखते ही देखते रेलगाड़ी तो आगे निकल जाती ही है पर उस व्यक्ति को वही पछताना पड़ता है। जब दूसरी रेलगाड़ी आती है तब तक उसकी यात्रा वहीं पर खत्म हो जाता है।

समय का पंछी एक बार हाथ से छूटने के बाद दोबारा वापस नहीं आता है। हमारा जन्म होते ही हमारा समय शुरू हो जाता है हमें पता ही नहीं चलता कि हमारा बचपन कब निकल जाता है। समय निशुल्क होता है समय को ना कोई खरीद सकता है और ना ही कोई बेच सकता है।

समय के बारे में एक सामान्य कहावत है कि-

समय के महत्व को समझ कर हमें समय का सही उपयोग करना होगा तभी हमारा समय बच सकता है। हम अपने समय को बचाने के लिए तीन चीज इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं-

योजना – सबसे पहले आप अपने दिनचर्या का एक चार्ट बनाएं। इसे आप अपने मोबाइल फोन या अपने लैपटॉप पर लिख सकते हैं। जब आपकी लिस्ट तैयार हो जाए तब इसे आप चार भागों में बांट दें – सुबह, दोपहर, शाम, और रात। जिस काम को आप सबसे पहले करना चाहते हैं उस प्रत्येक भाग को ऊपर रखें। उसके बाद उस लिस्ट को सेव कर ले। उसके बाद उसे आप अच्छी तरह से पढ़ ले और उसे ऐसे जगह पर रखें जहां पर आप की नजर बार-बार पढ़ें। इससे आप अपने सभी काम सही समय पर कर पाएंगे।
बदलाव – हर चीज इंसान बदलना चाहता है। इसी तरह से हमारे निजी जीवन में भी बदलाव आता है जैसे हम काम कुछ करते हैं और सोचते कुछ और हैं। बीच में कुछ और काम आ जाता है, जैसे फैमिली, बॉस, दोस्त या कोई दुर्घटना। जिससे हमें सब कुछ छोड़कर उन सब चीजों को ज्यादा जरूरी समझना पड़ जाता है। जिससे हमारी सारी योजनाएं बर्बाद हो जाती है। इसका मतलब यह हुआ कि आप जो योजनाएं बनाते हैं उनके बीच में यदि कोई काम आ गया तो आपको जाना पड़ता है। दूसरे काम के कारण आपका बहुत समय बर्बाद हो जाता है ऐसे समय को आप दोबारा मैनेज करके अपने काम के लिए समय निकाल सकते हैं।
विश्लेषण – यदि आपने टाइम मैनेजमेंट करना सीख लिया है तो आपके पास एक चीज रह जाता है वह है विश्लेषण। यदि आप कोई काम कर रहे हो और आपने जैसा सोचा था वैसा नहीं हुआ होता तथा जल्दबाजी में वह काम बिगड़ गया होगा तब आपको अपने टाइम टेबल का विश्लेषण करने की जरूरत है। तब आप रात के समय सोने से पहले आप अपने टाइम का विश्लेषण कर सकते हैं। जिससे आपको यह पता चल सके कि आप अपना समय कितना बचा रहे हैं और कितना बर्बाद कर रहे हैं? जैसे फेसबुक, व्हाट्सएप पर ज्यादा टाइम देना आदि जिसे आप रोक कर अपना टाइम बचा सकते हो।

University of Cincinnati alumni and NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce are returning to campus for one night only.

The Bearcat brothers are bringing their popular "New Heights" podcast to Fifth Third Arena on Thursday, April 11, for a live recording with special guests, student games and some surprises.

The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with the Great “Lombaby” Games, in which UC students will face off in a number of fun challenges.

The show, “New Heights Live: We Gotta Talk About It,” begins at 9 p.m. and will be recorded and released on the podcast next week. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was recently announced as a special guest , with more surprises still under wraps. It’s promised to be an unforgettable night in the heart of UC’s campus.

Who are jason and travis kelce, and why are they coming to uc.

Brothers, Bearcats, Super Bowl champions and future Hall of Famers Jason and Travis Kelce may hail from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, but they always rep Cincy.

Older brother Jason attended UC from 2006-2010 before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. Just last month, Jason announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 years as the center and team leader for the team.

Travis attended UC from 2008-2012, playing alongside Jason during their overlapping years. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, and he’s played there for his entire career. The superstar tight end is on the heels of his third Super Bowl win. Oh, and he’s Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.

What is ‘New Heights?’

“New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” is a top-ranked sports podcast launched by the brothers in September 2022. In the weekly show they dissect NFL games and news, including their own performances each week, talk shop with special guests and, as the Kelces have become increasingly popular outside of football — cough, cough, Taylor Swift — share a peek into their personal lives.

What to expect from the live show

Organizers liken it to a concert. Doors open at 5 p.m. The “first act” begins at 7 p.m. with the first-ever Great “Lombaby” Games, a series of Olympic-style challenges in which 10 Bearcat athletes will take on 10 fellow students, with the Kelces serving as commentators/referees. (The name is a nod to the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which is awarded to the winning Super Bowl team. If you know, you know.)

After a brief intermission, the live podcast show is set to begin around 9 p.m. Besides the announcement of special guest Joe Burrow , details on the night have been sparse. The guys have teased everything from Skyline Chili to Adriatico’s Pizza, cannons to live animals, while promising more tangible elements like trivia and Q&As. The mystery is part of the fun.

Arizona’s highest court on Tuesday upheld an 1864 law that bans nearly all abortions, a decision that could have far-reaching consequences for women’s health care and election-year politics in a critical battleground state.

“Physicians are now on notice that all abortions, except those necessary to save a woman’s life, are illegal,” the court said in a 4-to-2 decision.

But the court, whose justices are all Republican appointees, also put its ruling on hold for the moment and sent the matter back to a lower court for additional arguments about the law’s constitutionality. Abortion providers said they expected to continue performing abortions through May as their lawyers and Democratic lawmakers searched for new legal arguments and additional tactics to delay the ruling.

The ruling immediately set off a political earthquake. Democrats condemned it as a “stain” on Arizona that would put women’s lives at risk. Several Republicans, sensing political peril, also criticized the ruling and called for the Republican-controlled Legislature to repeal it.

The state’s highest court on Tuesday upheld an 1864 law that bans nearly all abortions.

The decision from the Arizona Supreme Court concerned a law that was on the books long before Arizona achieved statehood. It outlaws abortion from the moment of conception, except when necessary to save the life of the mother, and it makes no exceptions for rape or incest. Doctors prosecuted under the law could face fines and prison terms of two to five years.

Planned Parenthood Arizona, the plaintiff, and other abortion-rights supporters argued that the 1864 ban, which had sat dormant for decades, had essentially been overtaken by years of subsequent Arizona laws regulating and limiting abortion — primarily, a 2022 law banning abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy.

But the territorial-era ban was never repealed. And the Arizona Supreme Court said Arizona’s Legislature had not created a right to abortion when it passed the 15-week ban. Because the federal right to abortion in Roe v. Wade had now been overturned, nothing in federal or state law prevented Arizona from enforcing the near-total ban, the court wrote.

“Because the federal constitutional right to abortion that overrode § 13-3603 no longer exists, the statute is now enforceable,” the court’s four-person majority wrote, using the statutory number of the 1864 ban.

Justice Bill Montgomery recused himself from the case after the publication of news reports that he had written a Facebook post saying that Planned Parenthood had participated in “the greatest generational genocide known to man.”

The court’s ruling was a stinging loss for abortion-rights supporters, who said it would put doctors in legal jeopardy, prompt clinics in Arizona to stop providing abortions and force women to travel to nearby states like California, New Mexico or Colorado to end their pregnancies.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Dr. Atsuko Koyama, an abortion provider in Phoenix, said she had recently provided abortions to one woman trying to flee an abusive partner and another whose pregnancy had endangered her health. She said that the court’s ruling would end that kind of care and that it “criminalizes me.”

President Biden called the ban “cruel,” and said that it was a result of “the extreme agenda of Republican elected officials who are committed to ripping away women’s freedom.”

“Millions of Arizonans will soon live under an even more extreme and dangerous abortion ban, which fails to protect women even when their health is at risk or in tragic cases of rape or incest,” he said in a statement.

Arizona’s attorney general, Kris Mayes, a Democrat, called the ruling “unconscionable and an affront to freedom.” She promised to mount a legal effort to fight off implementation of the law and said she would not prosecute doctors for providing abortions.

It is unclear whether other Arizona prosecutors will follow suit.

Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, issued an executive order putting authority to prosecute abortion-related cases under the attorney general. Ms. Mayes said on Tuesday that she would refuse to allow Arizona’s elected county attorneys to bring cases under the 1864 ban, potentially opening a new legal fight with Republican prosecutors and abortion opponents.

Jake Warner, a senior counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian advocacy group that argued to reinstate the near-total ban, said at a news conference that he believed county prosecutors had the authority “to enforce the law as written, and so protect unborn life here in Arizona.”

At a news conference on Tuesday, Ms. Hobbs and other Democratic politicians decried the decision as “a stain on our state” that would energize abortion-rights supporters to vote in November’s elections.

Anti-abortion groups cheered the ruling.

“Life is a human right, and today’s decision allows the state to respect that right and fully protect life again — just as the Legislature intended,” Mr. Warner said. “We celebrate the Arizona Supreme Court’s decision that allows the state’s pro-life law to again protect the lives of countless, innocent, unborn children.”

Republicans control both chambers of the Legislature. The governor, Ms. Hobbs, is a first-term Democrat who campaigned on supporting abortion rights.

State Senator T.J. Shope, a Republican who represents a suburban and rural area south of Phoenix, said he would work to repeal the 1864 ban but leave in place a 15-week prohibition on abortions that was passed two years ago and signed into law by the previous governor, Doug Ducey, a Republican.

The stakes could also be significant for races up and down the ballot in Arizona this fall, after former President Donald J. Trump said this week that he thought abortion rights should be left up to the states to decide.

Political scientists in Arizona said the court’s abortion ruling was far out of step with public opinion. Only 7 percent of Arizona voters said they supported an outright abortion ban with no exceptions, according to a poll conducted last month by YouGov and Samara Klar, a political science professor at the University of Arizona.

Democrats, who seized on abortion to win campaigns for governor and attorney general in midterm elections two years ago, said it would galvanize their supporters , who were already pushing for a state constitutional right to abortion as a ballot initiative in November. In other states where abortion has been at risk of being curtailed, voters have turned out in force to protect it.

Representative Ruben Gallego, running unopposed in the Democratic primary for Senate, criticized the ruling and tied it to his opponent, Kari Lake, who called the near-total ban a “great law” when she was running for governor in 2022.

“Yet again, extremist politicians like Kari Lake are forcing themselves into doctors’ offices and ripping away the right for women to make their own health care decisions,” Mr. Gallego said, adding that he would do “whatever it takes to protect abortion rights at the federal level.”

Ms. Lake has been emblematic of a Republican shift on abortion . She came out against a federal ban last year while still backing the 15-week restriction that was in effect in Arizona, and she said on Tuesday that it was “abundantly clear that the pre-statehood law is out of step with Arizonans.” Ms. Lake called on the Legislature and Ms. Hobbs, her 2022 opponent in the governor’s race, to “come up with an immediate common sense solution.”

Representatives Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert, two Republicans facing re-election challenges in closely divided districts, also criticized the ruling and urged state lawmakers to address it.

Tracking Abortion Bans Across the Country

The New York Times is tracking the status of abortion laws in each state following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

For nearly two years, supporters and opponents of abortion rights in Arizona have been fighting in court over whether the 1864 law could still be enforced, or whether it had been effectively overtaken and neutered by decades of other state laws that regulate and restrict abortion but stop short of banning it entirely.

The 1864 ban had sat mothballed for decades, one of several sweeping state abortion-ban laws that were moribund while Roe v. Wade was in effect but became the focus of intense political and legal action after Roe fell.

Abortions in Wisconsin were largely halted because of an 1849 ban, but resumed last September after a judge said the law did not make abortions illegal. In Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, signed a repeal of a 1931 ban on abortion last spring after voters added abortion-rights protections to the state constitution.

Welcome to the Los Angeles Times News Quiz. I’m Adam Tschorn, senior features writer, former game show question-and-answer man and your weekly quizmaster.
