6 The Big Bang Theory Plot Holes That Young Sheldon Never Fixed

Leonard being dead is better than young sheldon's most unforgivable big bang theory disrespect, young sheldon’s georgie & mandy spinoff has a major big bang theory problem.

Watching Sheldon in Young Sheldon   grow into the brilliant theoretical physicist fans of  The Big Bang Theory  loved (and sometimes hated) has been a rewarding experience. While the prequel doesn't have all the characters fans loved from adult Sheldon's world , it makes up for it with its own magnificent set of characters, humor-filled plot, and moments that pull at the heartstrings of the audience.

Throughout the 4 seasons that have aired so far, Young Sheldon  touched the hearts of many with moments that left fans either in tears or with a broad smile. A lot of those relate to Sheldon's growth as he started understanding the world around him better. Even though the show revolves around him, the mushy stuff extends to the other characters as well.

Young Sheldon Cooper close-up, slightly smiling

As Mary insisted on the family holding hands during grace at the dinner table, Sheldon insisted on wearing mittens so he wouldn't contract any germs from holding his father's or brother's hands. After his first day of high school , George advised Sheldon to focus on learning and not pointing out people's flaws and shortcomings like he'd been doing. He gave an example of how he lost his former coaching job because he exposed illegal activities by his colleagues.

He was fired, got a bad reputation, and also admitted that he was both angry and sad about it. That night, at the dinner table during grace, Sheldon took his mitten off and held his father's hand in a comforting gesture. His father was both surprised and touched by this because it was the first time Sheldon held his hand.

Young Sheldon Cooper using an old computer

In season 1, episode 6, "A Path, a Modem, and a Zantac," Sheldon's class had a visit from a man who worked at a Space Centre in Houston. He told them about NASA's mission to send a man to the moon and of course, Sheldon had some opinions on that. The man dismissed him with a NASA patch and Sheldon vowed to make him rue the day he'd treated him like a child and dismissed his suggestions.

He worked on hyperbolic calculations for a rocket return over a month and sent his work over to NASA. After a long time of waiting to hear back, George drove the whole family to Houston to demand a response in person. It was a sweet moment that showed Sheldon just how much his father cared about him and his brilliant mind, even though he didn't understand him half the time.

Young Sheldon fishing, his father sitting down on a chair and his brother watching

In an effort to bond with Sheldon, George took him and Georgie on a trip to see the launch of a Space shuttle, which Sheldon suggested in place of fishing, camping, and any other outdoor activities. Throughout the trip, George let Sheldon get what he wanted, even under the guise of being fair by tossing a coin.

Unfortunately, the next morning, when they were supposed to go to the launch, it was raining heavily. Seeing Sheldon's disappointment, George asked him questions about the cause of thunder and lightning and Sheldon happily explained, successfully distracted. What he hadn't realized then was that his father only pretended not to know anything and asked him those questions so he wouldn't be sad anymore.

Young Sheldon: Georgie reads Missy a story in the living room

Missy asked Georgie for help with her grammar homework in season 1, episode 19 "Gluons, Guacamole, and the Color Purple." When the two of them got confused by it, she expressed her concern that maybe they weren't smart after all. Georgie—determined to prove that while they weren't as intelligent as Sheldon, they weren't dumb either—helped her.

At the end of the episode, Missy knocked on Georgie's door and slipped her marked assignment under it. With his help, she scored 100% on the homework and Georgie smiled proudly and stuck the paper to his wall. Although, he denied doing that when Missy asked him if he was crying.

Young Sheldon: Missy hugs Sheldon in the bedroom

Sheldon could hear even the lowest sound while no one else could, which was what happened in the first episode of season 2. While at the dinner table, he noticed the refrigerator was making a strange sound but when he pointed that out, no one else could hear it and they told him to ignore it and let it go. Unfortunately, as he so often said, letting go of things wasn't really where he shined.

His father refused to get it checked, so Sheldon got a manual and some tools and took it apart, planning to fix it himself with some encouragement from Missy. George was very upset with him when he got back and found it in pieces, especially when he had to pay a lot of money for it to be reassembled and fixed. He yelled at Sheldon and Missy comforted him with a hug when he cried.

Absence And Fondness

Sheldon is comforted by his mom and dad while he lays in the hospital bed

Sheldon's family was used to him freaking out about a medical emergency, which would turn out not to be one at all. Season 2, episode 12, "A Tummy Ache and a Whale of a Metaphor Poster" had one such occasion when Sheldon complained about a tummy ache. His father initially dismissed it, but when it got severe during the night, they rushed him to the hospital and were told his gall bladder needed to be removed.

While he was in surgery, Meemaw watched Missy and Georgie at home. During the night, Missy climbed out of her bed and slept in Sheldon's bed because she missed him and wanted to feel close to him, even though when he's there, she's usually picking on him.

Mr. President

Sheldon gets ready to read a speech during his presidential campaign

Once Sheldon put his mind to something, there was no stopping him. In season 2 's, "A Political Campaign and a Candy Land Cheater," he ran for class president so the science department could get funds to upgrade the lab equipment. His opponent was someone everyone else liked, so his chances of winning were slim.

As part of the campaign, he had to speak in front of the whole school. Sheldon was nervous about it and his dad gave him a touching pep talk, reminding him how brave he was for being in high school at his young age.

Nobel Prize

Young Sheldon finale: shots of young Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Howard, Bernadette, Penny and Amy

While  Young Sheldon focused on Sheldon's backstory and how he developed some habits like always adding details to lies or his all-famous Bazinga, there were a few moments that intersected with future Sheldon's life. The best of these was the finale of season 2.

RELATED: Which Young Sheldon Character Are You, Based On Your Zodiac?

This finale aired just after the series finale of  The Big Bang Theory when Sheldon and Amy received their Nobel Prize—one of the most beautiful scenes of the series . In  Young Sheldon , the last scene showed Sheldon listening to Nobel Prize winner announcements (crying because he was alone), Leonard listening in his room, Howard asleep in his bed, Raj working on something, Amy reading a novel under her blankets with a torch, Penny fast asleep, and Bernadette as well.

Mr. Spock And Captain Kirk

Young Sheldon and his dad fast asleep on a plane ride

In season 3 episode 16, "Pasadena," Sheldon went on a sponsored trip to Caltech. Aside from the fact that he was visiting his future workplace, the trip was heartwarming for another reason. His father was accompanying him and since they rarely spent time alone together, it was cute to see them do this.

On the plane, Sheldon freaked out when the flight attendant started going through safety and emergency protocols. His father managed to talk him out of wanting to get off the plane by telling him to pretend to be Spock, who was always flying around in his spaceship. He pretended to be Kirk and with his help, Sheldon got through the takeoff and flight.

Fear and Bravery

Sheldon graduates from high school and gives his valedictorian speech

When Sheldon graduated from high school, he was made valedictorian so he had to give a speech in front of the school and parents of the graduating class. The night before, he confessed to Missy that he was scared of all the changes coming and having to do public speaking.

Missy told him it was okay to be scared but to do the thing he was scared of anyway. The next day, Sheldon dedicated his speech to Missy, quoting her insightful words on facing fear. As far as valedictorian speeches go, it was truly beautiful.

  • Sheldon stands up for his mother, saying that while she may be gullible, she is not a liar.
  • Sheldon touches his father's hand without mittens at family prayer for the first time. George's facial expression says it all.
  • Although he does not want to, Sheldon tries to make friends to make his mother happy. Sheldon : But I like doing things for you. You're a nice lady.
  • Billy gives Missy some eggs as a sign of his crush on her.
  • Every time Mary is close to losing her composure, Constance assures her that George will be alright.
  • Sheldon and Missy have a rare moment of bonding when they confess how scared they are when the phone rings (Mary had been calling Constance from the hospital, updating them on George).
  • Also heartwarming is the fact that both Missy and Sheldon go with him. Missy's presence is to be expected, but Sheldon comes, too. He's wearing Georgie's football helmet, carrying an entire couch's worth of pillows to buffer his seat, and proclaiming that the venture won't end well, but he refuses to be left behind.
  • Sheldon puts aside his disdain for religion and prays to Blaise Pascal, asking him to ask God to make his dad ok.
  • The family's sheer happiness when they get the news that George Sr. will be alright.
  • It turns out Tam is the one who introduced Sheldon to his beloved comic books, despite Sheldon initially disdaining them as being for kids. The scene of the two of them sitting on the floor reading X-Men is quite adorable. Sheldon: You challenge me. I like that. [Tam smiles.]
  • When Georgie and Missy complain about Sheldon's constant issues resulting in them being ignored, Constance reassures them that it's okay if Sheldon gets more attention than them because it only means their parents don't nag them constantly and instead get to eat Blizzards for dinner with her.
  • George Sr. clearly thinks Sheldon's obsession with the landing problem is ridiculous, and tries to get him to drop it. But when he sees how badly it's affecting his son, he drives the entire family to Houston, barges into the NASA rep's office, and demands that Sheldon be heard. Rather astonishingly, it works.
  • When staying at the motel, a thunderstorm starts up and Sheldon is upset because it means there will be no shuttle launch the next morning. George then starts asking him questions about how thunder and lightning works, claiming that he didn't know. Sheldon starts explaining it to him, and gets so caught up in his explanations that he forgets all about the storm. Older Sheldon then narrates that years later, he realised that his father wasn't nearly as dumb as he made himself out to be, and only downplayed his knowledge at that moment to distract Sheldon from the storm.
  • When Missy admits to worrying that she's dumb , Georgie responds by stepping up and helping her with her English homework. He's clearly very proud when she ends up getting a perfect score, even pinning it to his bulletin board ( and then vigorously denies it ).
  • Sheldon finally gathers up the courage to pet the neighbour's dog, albeit with an oven glove and other protection. It's very sweet until the dog somehow ends up licking Sheldon's tongue.
  • Sheldon's inspiration to get over his fear is because he feels responsible for Meemaw's fight with Mrs. Sparks. Mary comforts him and says it wasn't his fault (also adding that it's not the first time Meemaw got punch in the face.)
  • We briefly see the dog's owner in jail. He has a photo of himself with his dog stuck up on the wall of his cell.
  • While Missy likes making a fuss of the dog because it winds Sheldon up, she's also clearly delighted to do so before she even realises that Sheldon is hiding nearby.
  • George Sr admits that he's proud of Sheldon for trying to get over his fear of dogs. Sure, he's still terrified, but at least Sheldon made the effort.
  • When Missy insists that her father take her to "the fanciest restaurant in Texas: Red Lobster", and puts on a princess outfit for her night out. Their waiter very smoothly plays along with her fine dining fantasy, leaving her genuinely dazzled by the experience.
  • After George comes around to Missy's side of the table to show her how to eat her lobster, she asks him to stay next to her when he starts to return to his seat. And this is after George and Mary had discussed that George isn't as close to Missy as he is to his sons.
  • The very last line of this episode reveals that Sheldon and Amy go on to have their own children.
  • Mary gets an offer to work for the church, but has reservations when she realizes that no one will be there to watch the children. Both George and Meemaw encourage her to take the job, assuring her that the kids should be fine if home alone.
  • Sheldon and Missy get along remarkably well together.
  • When Missy pulls a splinter from Sheldon's finger, he is genuinely impressed with her MacGyvering (even if he can't resist giving himself credit for being brave
  • When the tornado hits, the entire family huddles in the bathroom together. Missy and Sheldon are with Mary in the bathtub ( which is the safest place to be ), while George Sr. and Georgie are on the toilet. After having spent the majority of the episode putting Georgie down, Meemaw comes over to hold him when Georgie admits that he's scared that the tornado might hit them. When the storm has passed and Meemaw goes to check her own home for damage, Georgie immediately offers to go with her.
  • After his father calls him out for not doing his cores, it's quite sweet that Georgie tries to prove him wrong, even if he doesn't exactly go about it in the right way. He clearly thinks a lot of his father.
  • Sheldon wordlessly giving his mother a hug after the tornado.
  • Missy asks Georgie for help with her homework, and he initially brushes her off, saying he doesn't understand it any more than she does (which is true). But when Missy admits to worrying she's not just dumb compared to Sheldon, but actually dumb , he buckles down with her and spends what's implied to be the entire afternoon helping her with her homework. It's not easy, and the two frequently find themselves consulting Missy's textbooks, but together, they figure it out, and Missy gets a good grade. She slides her paper under Georgie's door to show him, and while he denies that it's a big deal, he secretly grins to himself and pins Missy's "A" paper to his bulletin board.
  • Having been angrily scolded by his father and ordered to pay back the $200 for putting back the fridge in one piece (without a deadline) after Sheldon disassembled since it gave him tinnitus, Sheldon starts weeping. Missy hugs him in comfort.
  • Mary starts losing her belief in God after a sixteen-year-old neighbor girl died in a car accident. She goes out drinking with Connie, doesn't go to church the next morning and eats dinner without saying grace. This change in character worries Sheldon, who is able to help her regain her faith by saying that while he doesn't believe in the Christian God, he's open to the possibility that the Universe had a creator. Sheldon : Did you know that if gravity were slightly more powerful, the universe would collapse into a ball? Mary : I did not. Sheldon : Also, if gravity were slightly less powerful, the universe would fly apart and there would be no stars or planets. Mary : Where you going with this, Sheldon? Sheldon : It's just that gravity is precisely as strong as it needs to be. And if the ratio of the electromagnetic force to the strong force wasn't one percent, life wouldn't exist. What are the odds that would happen all by itself? Mary : Why are you trying to convince me to believe in God? You don't believe in God. Sheldon : I don't, but the precision of the universe at least makes it logical to conclude there's a creator. Mary [sighs] : Baby, I appreciate what you're trying to do, but logic is here [points to her head] . And my problem is here [places her hand over her heart] . Sheldon : Well, there are 5 billion people on this planet and you're the perfect mom for me. What are the odds of that? Mary [tears up and hugs Sheldon] Thank you, Lord, for this little boy.
  • Missy also stated that she had more fun talking to the psychologist than taking the test.
  • Note that Missy doesn't seem resentful when she says this. The way she puts it is by describing her mother, Meemaw and Sheldon as "kind of a team" and her father and Georgie in the same way.
  • Mary spends the whole episode angry when Mr. Lundy takes over her Hell House project when she asks for his help and he takes over the whole project, making the seven deadly sins look like something fun. She considers the night a failure despite the money earned for the church when nobody comes to the room based on Heaven to "be saved," until Veronica Duncan, Georgie's date, comes into the room and wants to change her life, having been deeply touched by the room of Lust. Sheldon's narration then says that Veronica went on to live a life devoted to God and help feed the poor, even helping her older sister, who she said previously had been arrested, start a literacy program for female inmates.
  • Sheldon is upset when nobody recognizes his costume is Carl Sagan. When one woman gets it right at the end of the episode, Sheldon smiles happily and fist bumps her in celebration.
  • Adult Sheldon notes that he never understood just what a huge sacrifice his father made. The fact that Sheldon is capable of looking back, understanding, and appreciating it really shows how much he's grown as well.
  • When they go around the table and each say what they're thankful for, Dr. Sturgis talks about how grateful he is to be surrounded by people who care about him, as he never had that growing up.
  • Paige and Missy encouraging Sheldon to play with them. Sheldon kept saying "no" of course, but it's the thought that counts. And when Paige warns Sheldon that he'll grow up to be socially stunted if he keeps rejecting people, she says it with genuine concern instead of mockery.
  • Connie telling John that she loves him whether he can drive or not. And John, of course, reciprocates.
  • Missy sleeping in Sheldon's bed to feel close to him when he's having surgery at the hospital.
  • Sheldon's relationship with his roommate Ricky is cute. He even leaves him an Iron Man comic because Ricky compared the upcoming operation on his heart to Tony Stark's chest plate.
  • Mary and Missy are fighting over Missy stealing Meemaw's makeup for picture day. After showing her some old pictures of her mother as a wild teenager, Meemaw tells Missy why Mary changed. It turns out Missy almost died at birth and Mary prayed that if her daughter lived, she'd devote her own life to God. It has such an effect on Missy that she even hugs Mary goodbye in front of her friends.
  • Mary has been sick of her children viewing her as the bad guy for enforcing boundaries. George and Meemaw both reassure her that she's not a bad mother.
  • Sheldon's support of communism has resulted in the entire Cooper family being persecuted. One moment that sticks out is Georgie Eating Lunch Alone , until Veronica sits down with him. She knows that sitting with Georgie will tarnish her reputation and that Georgie wants more from her than just friendship, but she chooses to do so anyway, since she's smart enough to know it's just a misunderstanding.
  • Once George finds out Mary is pregnant, he goes to Principal Petersen to ask for a raise, and Tom gladly gives it to him. Even after Mary miscarries and George says he doesn't need the raise anymore, Tom still gives it to him.
  • George is also supportive, if understandably a bit shaken up, throughout the ordeal, as is Connie. The latter even refrains from saying anything nasty about George at the beginning.
  • It's also nice that Mary and George are intimate on what's implied to be a fairly regular basis, given how rocky their relationship is sometimes portrayed as.
  • Georgie goes above and beyond to clean out his room so Veronica can stay there; to the extent of fishing out his secret porn stash and even throwing away some of his clothes. While it's obvious that he's doing it for certain reasons, he never once pressures Veronica into anything, he just simply asks if he can spend some time with her.
  • Veronica is wonderful with both Sheldon and Missy. She accepts Sheldon's bathroom schedule, and kindly answers his difficult questions about her personal life. She then takes the often neglected Missy out to get milkshakes, giving her some much needed one-on-one attention.
  • Specifically, the fact that he asks Veronica and gives her agency in this scene is absolutely wonderful.
  • Georgie is surprisingly supportive of Pastor Jeff, offering up his room so Jeff could spend the night away from his wife. And then Georgie goes to church the next Sunday so that he can "support [his] pal".
  • The subplot of Sheldon and Missy teaming together to collect donations for the church. It's one of the few times that Missy and Sheldon get along without bickering. And Sheldon is an atheist, so it's that much sweeter that he is more than willing to help his mother out with her church duties despite his aversion to her beliefs.
  • A meta one: this aired right after the series finale of the parent show. So it was sort of a way of saying goodbye to the characters we knew over the past 12 seasons by showing their childhood selves.
  • Coach Wilkins talking about how close he and his wife are is fairly touching.
  • George realizing that he's been taking his wife for granted and takes Mary out to dinner.
  • Missy tells a lie to Pastor Jeff when he calls looking for Mary (when Jeff asks her what she's doing, she says she's watching TV when in reality, she was playing with a Ouija Board). She feels incredibly guilty about it and is afraid she'll go to Hell for lying to a pastor. She immediately calls Jeff back to confess. Jeff gently assures Missy that she's not going to Hell and that she has been forgiven.
  • Robin asking Pastor Jeff to marry her.
  • Georgie buys a $100 necklace for Veronica with the money he made selling candy. Veronica turns it down because she's uncomfortable accepting a gift that expensive. Later on, he leaves another one on her car that he made out of the candy. A big smile forms when she opens it.
  • George spends the episode teaching Missy how to play baseball to impress a boy, and she shows talent for pitching. When she's devastated to learn the boy likes another girl, George comforts her as best he can. Afterwards, they play catch just for the sake of it.
  • This puts a smile on her face.
  • Sheldon dresses up and pretends to be Spock to attend Billy Sparks' birthday party, and Billy shows interest in Sheldon's role-play, even if the long words fly over his head. Despite Mrs. Sparks' chagrin that the boys weren't engaging in "normal" activities, the two of them genuinely get along and have fun...until the chicken poops on Sheldon.
  • Mary and Brenda coming to terms, when Mary admits that it was wrong of her to force Sheldon to come to the party (for both boys) and Brenda shows some sympathy for how isolated Mary feels her son is, while finally acknowledging Billy's own eccentricity.
  • Sheldon willingly listens to Paige's troubles. Keep in mind that Sheldon doesn't like Paige very much and she had earlier placed stolen body glitter in his backpack at the mall (which, thankfully, no one gets in trouble for), yet he still recognizes that Paige needs help. He also offers her a hot beverage to comfort her, something that would be a staple of Sheldon's character in The Big Bang Theory .
  • Georgie offering to pay to have the A/C in George's truck fixed. Sure, he's doing it to ease his own discomfort, and George's pride stopped him from accepting it, but it was still a nice gesture. Georgie even asks if his dad seriously is proud of him getting a job, why he can't use the money to help. It also provides a glimpse into the future, since The Big Bang Theory reveals that Georgie was the one to support his family after his father died.
  • After Wayne points out that kids need to know their parents are proud of them, George tries to express his pride to his sons, even though it's not easy for him. It doesn't go so well with Georgie, but Sheldon treasures his dad complimenting him after he makes Paige a hot beverage.
  • Missy crying during the baseball game, worried that she's going to cost her team the game and everyone will hate her if the opposing batter hits the ball. With a Motivational Lie from Coach Ballard, she pitches and the boy strikes out, ensuring a victory.
  • George nearly cancels a camping weekend he wanted to go on when he gets reminded that he had a previous appointment with Dr. Sturgis. He also tries to control Dale's constantly insulting behavior.
  • Seeing Sheldon and Georgie work together on a project is a really nice touch.
  • It turns out that Dr. Sturgis has been adopted as a kind of mascot by the people in the sports bar he's started to frequent.
  • June, Dale's titular ex-wife strikes up a friendship both with Constance and with John. When the latter expresses romantic interest in her, despite the fact that June is quite prickly, not only does she gently turn him down, but she encourages him not to give up on Connie.
  • For this episode, Sheldon has to participate in a group project with a couple of college students in Dr. Sturgis' class, both of whom are just as thrilled as he is (which is to say, not at all). But after motivational talks from his parents, Sheldon and his teammates are able to work together very well for almost four minutes. While this may not seem like much, considering how obnoxious and self-centered adult Sheldon could be in the parent show, let alone this younger version, that's no small thing at all.
  • Dr. Sturgis pulls some strings to ensure that Sheldon can get to Pasadena to hear Stephen Hawking speak. Just one more example of what a genuinely kind man he is.
  • Georgie grouches that he's sorry he isn't a perfect kid like she was. This leads Mary to open up about the wild past that she's tried so hard to put behind her and how she just doesn't want him to make the same mistakes she did, especially not one that could forever change his life.
  • During the talk, Mary accidentally lets slip that she and George got married to hide her pregnancy . Georgie, sounding a bit hurt, asks if he was a mistake . Mary quickly assures him that while her lying to her parents to spend the night with George was a mistake, Georgie himself was a blessing.
  • In what is presumably Sheldon's first airplane ride, he freaks out upon hearing the stewardess' safety instructions and learning something could possibly go wrong with the plane, to such a degree that he wants to leave. As George tries to get Sheldon to relax, he cites " Star Trek " calmly and accurately by persuading him to pretend that he's Mr. Spock aboard the Enterprise, while George takes on the role of Captain Kirk. Once seated again, George tries to comfort Sheldon by holding his hand, but Sheldon objects since Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock don't hold hands. But after thinking about it for a moment, he makes an exception this time.
  • Mary goes above and beyond to make sure Missy gets a female trophy, saying that Missy has been watching Sheldon earn trophies for years and she wants her first to be special. Missy reciprocates; although she isn't at all impressed by the trophy (and later blows it up) she does recognize that her mom put a lot of work into it and doesn't want her to feel like it was a waste.
  • Pastor Jeff and Robin announce that they're having a baby.
  • Missy is about to play baseball against her boyfriend Marcus and is worried that he won't like her anymore if she strikes him out. After some convincing from Connie, Coach Ballard pulls Missy from the game and lets another player pitch. That alone is a sweet gesture from a man who claims he has no feelings. Then, when the team is losing, Missy insists on entering the game and she ends up striking Marcus out. In the post-game congratulations, Marcus takes his defeat well and locks hands with her, causing Missy to explode from joy that he actually held her hand and race all the way to Meemaw's to report the good news.
  • George helping Sheldon make a video to convince Mary to let him go to college.
  • Mary and Brenda bonding over drinks.
  • Sheldon's video for Mary ends with Dr. Sturgis praising him and offering to let him join the college, suggesting that their friendship has mended. Even before that, Sheldon's high school teachers and principal all express genuine praise and well-wishes for Sheldon (except for Mr. Givens).
  • Meemaw and Georgie teaming together in order to stick it to Coach Ballard as payback for dumping Meemaw and firing Georgie. The episode ends with the two throwing eggs at his store.
  • Sheldon says that the graduation party his family threw him was his favorite... until he threw one for his son - Leonard Cooper .
  • Later, we see him comfort a student who is going through Teen Pregnancy .
  • Dale is apologetic towards Meemaw for his behavior in the last season, making amends by re-hiring Georgie and giving his money back.
  • Dale toasting Sheldon, especially considering that the two don't really interact much.
  • When Sheldon freaks out about not being ready for graduation, he and Missy have a heart to heart discussion about confronting fears. This scene is probably the best representation of their relationship. Missy : I get it. Sheldon : What do you get? Missy : Why you don't want to go to college. Sheldon : I doubt that you do. Missy : You're scared everything's gonna be different. And it'll be hard. And you're gonna miss the way that it was. Sheldon : How do you know that? Missy : 'Cause that's how I feel. Sheldon : You're scared. Missy : Yeah. Sheldon : So what do we do? Missy : I guess be scared and do it anyway.
  • Missy's grin of pride and affection when Sheldon addresses his speech to her, and later making and keeping eye contact with Sheldon during her performance of "This Land Is Your Land." If nothing else, this scene alone makes it very, very clear that she knows her brother loves her, and she loves him back.
  • Adult Sheldon and Amy exchange "Love yous" just after discussing a disagreement they had about their son's name.
  • George finds himself unprepared to handle Missy's first period. When the cashier at the drugstore notices this, she takes out time from her job to help him.
  • The senior docent is actually quite patient with Sheldon's Innocently Insensitive comments and overenthusiasm. He does ultimately fire him, but he tries first to tolerate him (even when Sheldon criticizes a brochure that he wrote in front of customers) and to explain gently what he's doing wrong.
  • Mary and Georgie connect over their shared love of the movie Road House (1989) .
  • In the RV, Wayne tries to mediate between Mary and George and gets them to try a trick he and his wife use: saying something that they appreciate about each other. George tells Mary that he appreciates how she takes care of the house and the family, and Mary responds that she appreciates George's hard work and all the sacrifices he makes. Both are clearly touched by the other noticing their efforts.
  • Sheldon, worrying about making a good first impression during orientation, asks Missy which bow tie he should wear. Missy, despite having a dim view of Sheldon's dressing style, asks him to show her the options again and then offers a considered decision...and the advice that Sheldon shouldn't wear a bow tie.
  • George helps Pastor Jeff put together a crib, which leads into a discussion about fatherhood and Jeff's fears about failing at the job and being restricted from cool activities. George tries to reassure him, and ultimately fires up his old motorcycle, allowing Jeff to do something cool before the baby arrives.
  • Georgie making Mary some soup and toast after she and George had a fight. It was condensed soup and he didn't add water to it, but it was still a nice gesture on Georgie's part.
  • Sheldon catches Missy running away. Rather than telling on her, he decides to go with her. Yes, she ripped up his autographed picture of Professor Proton. Yes, he said he hates her moments before. Yes, he's only doing so because Connie said it was a social obligation for him to protect his younger sister (by two minutes), but it's still quite sweet of Sheldon to wander into the woods at night with no adult supervision.
  • Missy and Sheldon make peace with each other in the woods. Sheldon by giving Missy decent advice about not changing who she is just to please a boy and Missy by apologizing for tearing up his Professor Proton picture.
  • Missy apologizes to her father for the way she acted the day before and she talks to him about her problems.
  • When she hears George is in the hospital, Connie doesn't make any snide comments, only promising to watch the kids so that Mary can go to the hospital.
  • It's really nice to see Sheldon and Missy bonding, even if it is over their dislike of religion.
  • The youth pastor, instead of giving them some shpiel about blind faith, simply asks them to consider the topic thoughtfully and not to jump to conclusions, just like with the scientific method. Even Sheldon is impressed!
  • When she meets Brenda at the store, Connie seems genuinely concerned about George's heart attack, and is truly grateful that Brenda was there to help him.
  • What's sweeter is that Missy immediately answers when he knocks on the door, heavily implying that she's been having just as much trouble sleeping as he was.
  • The episode ends with Sheldon reflecting that he may not have always been the best dad, but they weren't always the best kids. It's really nice to know that, even if it wasn't until after his father passed, he does recognize his father's good qualities.
  • Georgie offers Constance an idea on how to restart her gambling den technically legally, but she brushes him off. After Dale spells out to her how well it would work, she goes and offers him an apology. Georgie's face absolutely lights up.
  • After Missy goes to her room crying, Sheldon goes to her window to make sure she isn't running away. Later on, he expresses genuine confusion (and seems to empathize at least a bit) when he learns that Missy was hurt socially at school because their mom offered to have the sex talk with the other Sunday school kids. He also offers her a hot beverage.
  • When Missy comes to her door, crying, Connie immediately comforts and consoles her. She spends the following couple of scenes being tender and gentle, with almost no snark, and encourages Missy to go back to school despite the bullying. "Don't let them win!"
  • George starts snapping at Mary after having a really bad day at work. She asks what's wrong, and he tells her about how he's facing a lot of pressure at work and might even lose his job. Mary steps forward and gives him a long, tender hug, which he truly appreciates.
  • Sheldon swiftly makes friends with his college hallmates, and they invite him over for video games, food, and evening Dungeons and Dragons sessions.
  • After Missy complains that Sheldon gets to do whatever he wants while she never does, George takes Missy to a burger restaurant. They have a really nice time teasing each other and joking around.
  • Dr. Linkletter is probably never going to be friends with Dr. Sturgis, but he's surprisingly understanding and gentle when John insists on taking care of an armadillo he hit while driving.
  • After having Taken a Level in Jerkass starting in season three, Paige seeks out Sheldon to repair her friendship with him (though it's largely because she hasn't been able to make any other friends at college). And even though Sheldon's poor social skills drive a bit of a wedge between them, he tries to help her out as best as he can.
  • Paige asks Sheldon if she could stay in his dorm for a few days until she figures out how to tell her mom that she wants to drop out of college. Sheldon obliges. He even puts together a care package for her!
  • When Sheldon tells Missy about what Paige is going through, Missy becomes deeply concerned and asks Mary to take her and Sheldon back to East Texas Tech to check up on her. Even though the two haven't spent much time together in a while, it's sweet that Missy still cares so much about Paige.
  • Also, Sheldon asks Missy not to tell Mary exactly what's going on for Paige's sake and Missy does just that, only telling Mary that she's worried about Paige. That was all it took for Mary to hop in the car and go to her.
  • The note that Paige left behind is signed "Your Friend, Paige".
  • Even in Sunday school, when the boy kept talking about her family, Missy threaten to kick his ass and when the boy said “I like to see you try” Billy stands up with Missy saying “How about I help her?” Goes to show that despite not being smart, Billy is a good kid and friend no matter what.
  • Connie accompanying Mandy to the doctor's office, even though she's not kin, because she remembers what she went through when she was pregnant with Mary.
  • When Mary breaks down after all she's been through, Missy runs over and gives her a comforting hug. In The Tag , as Mary does her customary dinner prayer, Missy adds "and bless mom."
  • After months of financial dire straits caused by the school giving his job to Wayne, George is called in to save the day when Wayne falls apart due to his wife leaving him. When the school asks him to come back permanently, he immediately says he won't take the job unless Wayne gets to stay on as assistant coach. After everything that happened, that's an impressive degree of loyalty.
  • Missy, having managed to sneak into a frat party, runs into Paige there. At first, she thinks it's all good fun, but when she realize that Paige is drunk and about to leave with a stranger, joins Sheldon in scaring the guy off and making sure Paige gets home safely.
  • Georgie breaking up with his girlfriend in the middle of a date because he realizes that there's nowhere he'd rather be than at home with Mandy and their baby.
  • Mary consoling Missy after her breakup with Taylor. After seven seasons of her neglecting her in favor of Sheldon, including the last time she was dealing with a breakup, it's nice to see Mary actually care about her daughter's feelings for once.

sheldon asks for help with homework

r/YoungSheldon is a place for fans of the CBS sitcom Young Sheldon to gather and discuss the show.

Why is it that Sheldon was failing in his engineering homework and only later he figured out the answer? Could it be theoretical thinking?

Was Sheldon perhaps constantly failing because of him being focused on theoretical physics and, mostly on a bigger part, he mostly always seemed to focus on theory instead of fact.

body-homework-chalkboard

Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

body-gold-piggy-bank-money

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

body-photomath-logo-2

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

  • Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
  • Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

body-studtypool-logo

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

body_stophand

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!
