Powering on or off the Device
Power on the drone.
Press the Power button once, and then press and hold the button for about one second to power on the drone.
Power off the drone.
When the drone is powered on, press the Power button once, and then press and hold the button for about one second to power off the drone.
Powering on or off the remote controller is the same as that for the drone.
Taking off the Drone
After the drone is powered on and the remote controller is linked with the drone, you can take off the drone in any of the following ways:
Tap the takeoff icon at the left side of the screen, and then press and hold the “Take off” button in the middle to take off your drone.
Tap the takeoff icon at the left side of the screen, and then slide to take off your drone.
After the drone is powered on, push the control sticks on the remote controller for about 2 seconds as shown below to make the propellers spin. Then push the left control stick to take off the drone.

Landing the Drone
When the aircraft returns to the Home Point and conditions are safe for landing, tap the landing icon on the camera view, and then press and hold the button to confirm (DJI GO 4: Slide right to land the drone).
After the drone returns to the Home Point or landing is required (conditions are safe for landing), push down the left control stick to make the drone land slowly. When the drone has landed, push the control stick down and hold for about three seconds to stop the motors.

How To Turn Off A DJI Phantom 3?

The DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter is an outstanding drone, but learning how to properly turn it off is critical. You need to turn off a DJI Phantom 3, press and hold the power button until the drone powers down.
Turning off a DJI Phantom 3 drone is a straightforward process that ensures safe handling and conserves battery life. Knowing how to power down the drone correctly is essential for every drone pilot. What are the key traits of the Phantom 3 drone line?

How do I initiate shutdown using the remote controller?
The easiest and safest method is to power off the Phantom 3 drone using the remote controller:
- Land your Phantom 3 drone gently on the ground when ready to finish flying.
- Hold the left joystick of the remote controller down and to the inside. This will spin down and turn off the motors.
- Once motors stop, press and hold the power button on the remote controller until it powers down.
This will shut down both the aircraft and remote controller safely.

Only use the battery power button in rare instances where the remote is inaccessible or malfunctioning. Even then, proceed with extreme caution.
Why is it risky for beginners to use the battery power button?
Using the battery power button to turn off a DJI Phantom 3 drone can be risky for beginners due to the following reasons:
1.Improper shutdown sequence
The drone is designed to go through a specific shutdown sequence when the power button is used. This sequence ensures that all systems are properly shut down, reducing the risk of data corruption or hardware damage. Using only the battery power button bypasses this sequence and can lead to potential issues.
2.Loss of control
If the drone is still connected to a remote controller or a mobile device, simply turning off the battery can result in a sudden loss of control. This can lead to an uncontrolled descent or potential collision, especially if the drone is in flight.
Disconnecting or removing the battery without properly powering off the drone can potentially cause damage to the battery, such as short-circuiting or overheating. This can compromise the battery’s performance and, in extreme cases, pose a safety risk.
If the drone is not properly shut down, there is a risk of data loss or corruption, especially if there are ongoing operations or recordings. This includes flight logs, captured media, and other important data that may be useful for analysis or documentation.
For these reasons, it is recommended for beginners and all drone pilots to follow the proper shutdown procedure by pressing and holding the power button on the drone until it powers down completely. This ensures a controlled and safe shutdown of the drone’s systems.
Is it ever okay to power off the drone mid-flight?
You should avoid ever powering off the Phantom 3 mid-flight as it will crash.
However, in certain emergency situations like a runaway drone or lost control, pressing the battery until powered off may be the only option to stop the aircraft. Just be aware this will likely destroy the drone when it plummets to the ground.
Power-off mid-flight is an absolute last resort only in dire emergencies.
What should my full landing and power-off sequence look like?
Follow this complete Phantom 3 landing and power-off sequence for optimal safety:
- Return home or maneuver above a soft, clear landing zone.
- Descend gently to 1-2 feet above the landing surface.
- Hover briefly to confirm drone is level and steady.
- Slowly bring down to rest on the surface while maintaining control.

Motor won’t turn on
When you go to start the motor, nothing happens.
Go outside with the drone and check to see if it connects with a satellite. If the drone does not connect, open it up and look at the GPS module. If it is unplugged, plug it back into the flight controller. If the GPS module is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
The motor will not start unless there has been a compass calibration, which needs to be done outdoors. To calibrate, tap the aircraft status bar at the top of the camera screen then press calibrate and follow the instructions.
To turn the safety off, which will allow the drone to fly, press both sticks on the controller down. This is also referred to as arming the drone.
If the motor still has not turned on, check the battery life of the drone. If the battery life is low, charge the battery.
Controller Low battery warning even after charging
If you controller is charging ok, e.g. lights indicate its taking charge and increases as such, but when you try to turn on controller the red light blinks to indicate low battery, you need to check two things
to do this check, after charging for some time (e.g. 30mins +), on controller click and hold, C1, Photo button and Power - You should see a green/blue light and controller should indicate level of charge. If no charge, likely to be a battery problem, However if 2/3/4 white lights show, the problem is elsewhere.
Assuming you have followed above step, The problem is likely with the regulator for the battery charging and release. There is a control unit which regulates the charge to the battery and also the release of charge. Its a 17.4 DC charger, but battery is 8.3v and this is in the design of the controller.
I am not 100% certain on how to fix this, but will come back later to update once resolved.
Battery is not charging
The battery does not charge when plugged into the charger.
If the battery was recently used in a flight, it may be too warm and will be unable to charge. Let the battery sit for a few minutes to let it cool off.
To force the battery to be in charging mode, press the battery button once and then immediately press and hold it down. Each LED will turn on until they’re all on. Once they are all on, some will turn off and then the current battery charge level will be displayed. Plug the battery into the charger. If the battery is kept on charging mode and doesn’t need to be charged, hold the button until all the lights turn off. This will save battery power.
If the charger is unable to charge other batteries, the charger may be faulty and may need to be replaced.
If your charger is able to charge other batteries, the battery may be faulty and may need to be replaced.
Video Horizon Tilted
When flying, the live video feed is not horizontal.
In many cases, the gimbal is simply misadjusted within the DJI app. If this is the case, you can access the gimbal settings within the DJI pilot app, and adjust the roll settings there.
Sometimes, the most recent firmware update from DJI fixes many past glitches that may cause your gimbal to tilt slightly. To be sure about which firmware you need, check DJI’s website to confirm the latest firmware.
The IMU, or the control board, controls the gimbal, so it is important this is calibrated correctly. In order to calibrate the IMU, the drone needs to be safely placed on a level surface. The IMU, along with other sensors, can be recalibrated through the DJI Pilot app.
If none of this helps, your gimbal may be faulty, and may need to be replaced.
Status Indicator Flashing Red,Yellow, and Green
After turned on, the status indicator repeatedly flashes red, yellow and green and it is hard to get the drone off the ground.
The red, yellow and green flashes mean the IMU data is abnormal. To calibrate the IMU the drone needs to be safely placed on a level surface. The IMU, along with other sensors, can be recalibrated through the DJI Pilot app.
ESC(Electronic Speed Controller) Status Error
After arming the quadcopter, the motors won’t turn on, and “ESC Status Error” is displayed.
Sometimes the IMU can cause the user to see this error, so it is important to calibrate the IMU correctly. To calibrate the IMU the drone needs to be safely placed on a level surface. The IMU, along with other sensors, can be recalibrated through the DJI Pilot app.

I have one motor on my Phantom 3 Standard that won't spin with a take off command. I purchased another one and replaced it and it still does not spin. It does it's short dance like the others when I turn on the drone battery and jumps about a quarter of an inch when I engage a take of but that is the extent of it. Any ideas?

Phantom 3 Battery Not Charging (Reasons, and How to Fix It)

Drone batteries are made of lithium polymer and utilize advanced technology, requiring rigorous maintenance and storage routines. Most of the batteries are light and easily rechargeable. This is why drone manufacturers find it appropriate to use them in aircraft. However, Phantom 3 batteries can sometimes let you down by refusing to charge. So, what are some of the reasons these batteries may fail to charge?
Phantom 3 batteries may refuse to charge after many hours of use or when there is a faulty or broken charger. It may refuse to charge when it bricks as a result of poor maintenance or poor storage which damages the cells. Also, when the battery goes into deep discharge mode, it may not charge.
Unfortunately, when your Phantom 3 battery stops charging, you cannot get outdoors and enjoy flying your drone. Such a battery may charge after a little bit of finagling, or it may never charge again. In the latter case, you will have no option other than to buy a new battery. Read on to see why the Phantom 3 battery may refuse to charge and what you can do to fix the problem.
Poor Storage and Maintenance
Typically, Phantom 3 batteries consist of a lithium polymer composite that requires proper maintenance and special storage. One aspect of this is that they should never be allowed to drain beyond the 5% level. If they do, the battery cells can be permanently damaged.
Similarly, the batteries have smart flight features which may prevent them from charging. The features include the hibernation mode found in intelligent battery systems. In that case, it may be necessary to maintain the battery regularly, including ensuring that its voltage does not drop below 3.7 V, to prevent the battery from entering hibernation mode.
Luckily, you can jump-start a battery out of hibernation mode. However, you will need a bunch of different tools to do so. Some of them include a LiPo balance charger, and a Nickel Metal Hydride charger (NiMH).
To fix the problem, connect the LiPo battery plug to the NiMH charger and charge the battery using about 0.1A current. Select a voltage matching the LiPo battery nominal voltage. It should take between 1-2 minutes for the battery to recover up to 3.3V in every cell. You can confirm this by reading your Phantom 3 battery’s total voltage and dividing it by the total number of cells.
As soon as the voltage of your Phantom 3 battery rises to above 3.3 V per cell, you can move it to a Lithium Polymer balance charger. Here, you should be able to balance the battery charge at a 0.5 C rating. As soon as the balance charge completes balancing, the battery will be fully recovered.
Alternatively, you may need to reset the battery. Notice that any Phantom 3 battery that is not in use will always self-discharge. LiPos will also discharge but at a slower pace. As such, if left unused for a while, it may discharge to zero and go into hibernation mode. So, you need to reset it to get it back to life once more.
To reset it, you need to have the DJI charger on hand. Press the ON button two times and ignore any of the lights that may flicker. Do not press any other button but let the battery rest for another 5 minutes and plug in the charger but don’t press any button this time around. You may leave the battery to charge for a few minutes. It is likely to get back to life after a few minutes, or it may take even longer.
Broken or Faulty Charger
If your charger is faulty or broken, it will not charge. So, you may need to troubleshoot it to confirm any broken wire. The easiest way to do this is to plug it into a wall socket that you are sure is working, and connect a battery. You will then need to turn the battery on to see how it behaves.
The Phantom 3 battery may refuse to charge if there is a problem with the firmware that needs to be updated. Therefore, to fix the problem, you will need to update the drone’s firmware. But ensure the battery is in the drone when doing this, and not in the separate battery charger. Also, you may need an appropriate app to fix the drone’s firmware.
When the battery’s temperature rises above a certain level, the sensors will detect it, and eventually, the battery will refuse to charge. One thing that can raise the battery’s temperature is when you leave it in the sun or in the car. Similarly, if you have been warming the battery in the previous flight, the chances are that it may still be warm. In this state, it may not charge.
Notice that the batteries will only charge when the temperature is between 5° C – 40° C. If it is too cold or too warm, it may refuse to charge. To fix the problem, leave it at room temperature for a period of 30 minutes or one hour. You can then plug the battery into the charger and allow it to charge.
If a short circuit causes a high amperage, the battery may stop charging as well. This may happen when parts of a wire are in contact with each other either within the charger or outside the charger. As a result, it may be necessary to inspect the charger for exposed wires which may make the Phantom 3 battery not charge. To fix this, identify the damaged wires and replace them. Alternatively, you may opt to buy a new charger.
There are linings between your battery and the charger that can either get bent or break. Also, the pins may corrode as they come in contact with corrosive substances or moisture. It may result in a leaking battery which may make the battery refuse to charge. To fix the issue, clean off the corrosion using isopropyl alcohol. But if the pins are damaged, consider buying a new battery.
Bad Battery Cell
A lithium battery contains several cells. When some of the cells die, it may make the battery refuse to charge. Look at each of the cells closely to see the dead ones. To fix the problem, you may need to buy a new battery and maintain it well. Also, some of the cells may be damaged. So, ensure to check the health of these individual cells and see if they are responsible for the battery’s refusal to charge.
When the battery is in hibernation mode, it may not charge. One of the reasons why it can enter the mode is when it has been in storage for a few months. If the battery discharges to zero, it automatically enters a hibernation mode, making it difficult for the battery to charge. Luckily you can fix the problem through this process:
Power on the battery and keep watching it until it displays a solid red light. Wait for the light to go off, then plug it into the charger. Let it stay plugged in for a few hours until it comes out of hibernation mode. Also, before you store the battery, ensure that the charge stays up to at least 50% if it stays in storage for a longer period. Ensure to check and charge it regularly.
Not Taking Good Care of The Battery
Taking care of the battery is not difficult. But if you don’t do it correctly, it is unlikely that the battery will last very long. Firstly, avoid using the battery if it shows signs of damage. The swelling sign is a definite indicator of a problem since it shows that the battery is leaking.
Also, it’s important to never let your battery get or stay wet. If it accidentally gets soaked in water, make sure to dispose of it right away. Do not attempt to charge a swollen battery because it can explode and cause an accident.
Note that it is necessary to ensure that you only use an official charger for the Phantom 3 battery. Also, ensure that you check the temperature of the battery before you charge it. Anything below 22 or above 28 degrees Celsius is not acceptable. Do not start charging the battery immediately after the drone returns from the sky. Let it cool down to the desired temperature before plugging it into the charger.
Do not plug the battery in the charger and go to attend to other business. Ensure that you keep your eye on the chargers’ status bar. It will always indicate the charging level. Keeping an eye on it ensures that you don’t overcharge the battery.
Lastly, store the battery when it is 60-80 percent charged if you will use it in a couple of days. But if you plan to use it after ten days or more, it should be stored with a 40-60 percent charge.
When making drone batteries, manufacturers use different materials, and so you need to treat the battery well and store them in particular conditions. Also, the battery needs to be maintained regularly to give you service for a longer time. But if you don’t check and maintain it, it is likely to get damaged and be unusable.

When I was on DJI forums I found that many DJI Phantom 3/ Standard users are confused about some Phantom 3 LED blinking codes and how to fix the issue. Therefore I decided to write an article to help understand DJI Phantom 3 LED blinking codes and how to fix them.
Below list is the most commonly asked DJI Phantom 3 / Standard LED blinking codes that require user attention and action.
DJI Phantom 3 / Pro/ Standard LED Blinking Codes.

If your DJI Phantom 3 is flashing yellow that means your DJI Phantom 3 / 3 Standard requires to be linked to the remote controller. So the solution to fix this issue is just linking the Phantom 3 aircraft to the RC.
- Connect the mobile device to the remote controller and power on the Phantom 3 aircraft and controller.
- Turn on the Wifi on the mobile device and connect to the Phantom 3 aircraft by giving the password.
- Then open the DJI GO app and enter camera view.
- Click on the RC icon near the top status bar.
- Scroll down and click on the “Linking RC” button and “OK”. Once you have done that, the RC would start to beep.
- Turn the aircraft upside down and press the red flashing button in the belly of the Phantom 3 using a pen or screwdriver.
- Then the RC beeping would stop and the yellow indicator would flash green and be ready to fly.
Code 2: DJI Phantom 3 Flashing Red And Green.
As I found, in most cases DJI Phantom 3 is blinking red, yellow, and green because of faulty firmware updates and IMU errors.
Solution 1: Calibrate the Phantom 3 IMU.
- Power off the Phantom 3 aircraft for about 5 minutes before IMU calibration.
- Place the DJI Phantom 3 aircraft on a flat surface.
- Connect the mobile device to the remote controller. Then power on the aircraft and the controller.
- Open DJI GO app and go to Main Remote Controller Settings > Advanced Settings > Sensors.
- Then tap Calibrate IMU and OK.
- Wait for a few minutes until the calibration process is successful.
Solution 2: Update DJI Phantom 3 firmware.
- Visit DJI Downloads and download the latest DJI Phantom 3/ Pro/ Standard firmware Zip file. Then extract the bin file from the downloaded Zip file.
- Move the extracted bin file to the root directory of the SD card.
- Then insert the SD card into the Phantom 3 aircraft and power on the aircraft.
- Once you turned it on the Phantom 3 indicator LED near the SD card slot would blink green and red which indicates the firmware update process.
- You have to wait patiently while the aircraft keeps beeping, for a few minutes until the firmware update process completes.
- Wait until the LED indicator near the SD card slot turns green and the gimbal stabilizes.
- Power off the Phantom 3 aircraft and connect the SD card back to the PC.
- Go to the SD card directory and check the created TXT file. If the txt file shows “Result: Success”, the firmware update process is successful and the problem is solved. If it’s not retry the process again.
Usually, DJI Phantom 3 controller keeps blinking red because of low battery power, controller sticks misalignment, faulty battery, miscalibrated controller, and firmware issues.
Solution 1: Charge the remote controller to a sufficient level before using it.

- Download DJI Phantom 3 latest firmware zip file and extract the bin file from it to a root directory of a formatted Flash drive. (or move to the SD card and use an SD card adapter)
- Insert the Flash drive to the remote controller and power on the controller and wait for the blue indication LED and beeping.
- Then wait until the indication LED turns solid green and stops beeping.
- Once that has been done, the firmware update process is successfully done.
Solution 4: Calibrate remote controller sticks.
- Connect the smart device to the remote controller and open the DJI GO app.
- Then enter the camera view and tap on the remote controller icon and click on RC calibration.
- Tap “Calibrate” and move the throttle sticks shown in the app several times.
- Turn the dial according to the instructions given by the app for several times.
- Then tap finish.
Solution 5: Reset the Phantom 3 Remote Controller.
- Power off the Phantom 3 remote controller and aircraft. Then press the power button while pressing and holding the C1 + C2 + record button and scroll wheel to reset the controller.
As I found, most of the time DJI Phantom 3 controller keeps flashing green and red because of firmware issues. The best solution for this issue is to update the Phantom 3 firmware and reset the controller.

- Meaning: Faulty battery.
- Solution: Replace the battery.

- Meaning: Over current detected.
- Solution: Try with another Phantom 3 charger. Also, try plugging the charger into a different outlet.
