Nashville Area’s Haunted History

As someone who has grown up in the Nashville area, you might be familiar with the eerie tales that have haunted Middle Tennessee for centuries. One of the most famous of these stories revolves around the Bell Witch Cave. So, let’s dive into the chilling history that has made this region both fascinating and spooky.

Bell Witch Cave

The Bell Witch Cave , located near Adams, Tennessee, is a site wrapped in folklore and mystery. It is said to be the home of the infamous Bell Witch, who tormented the Bell family during the early 19th century. This supernatural entity is believed to be a poltergeist, a spirit that tormented the Bells, particularly John Bell and his daughter Betsy.

The story began in 1817 when John Bell, a highly respected farmer, encountered an unusual creature on his property. He soon realized that his family was plagued by a malicious spirit, which would taunt and scare them relentlessly. The spectral figure was known to physically assault family members, move objects, and even make itself heard through disembodied voices and laughter.

As the legend goes, the spirit named itself Kate after a neighbor, Kate Batts, although there is no concrete evidence linking the two. Kate Batts was a quirky woman who was rumored to have practiced witchcraft, and many suspected her to be the source of the supernatural occurrences.

To this day, the Bell Witch Cave remains a popular site for paranormal enthusiasts and tourists seeking a glimpse into Middle Tennessee’s haunted past. While many of the stories surrounding the Bell Witch and Bell family are based on folklore and local legend, it never fails to captivate the imaginations of those who have lived in or visited the Nashville area.

As you continue to live and explore the Nashville area, remember the chilling tales of the Bell Witch Cave and the haunted history that lies beneath the surface of your own backyard.

Outdoor Haunted Experiences

Nashville has a variety of outdoor haunted experiences for you brave thrill-seekers. These attractions bring out the spookiest and creepiest vibes with immersive experiences set in Tennessee’s natural landscapes. As a local, I have spent many autumn nights exploring these frightful attractions, and I am excited to share them with you.

Creepy Hollow Haunted Woods is a must-visit for those who love haunted forests. Get ready to venture deep into the woods, where your nightmares will come to life as horrifying creatures lurk in every corner. The trail offers an adrenaline-filled walk through dark and twisted paths. Remember to watch your step and stay alert – you never know what may be waiting for you!

Another popular spot is the Dead Land Scream Park , a terror-filled oasis for horror lovers. This outdoor attraction offers three distinct haunted trails, each with its unique spine-chilling theme. As you navigate each trail, prepare to be immersed in the park’s ghastly world, filled with creepy characters that will send shivers down your spine.

Miller’s Thrillers is a family-friendly option that features a haunted woods trail and a zombie paintball hayride. The haunted trail is a chilling walk through the haunted forest, where professional actors and spine-tingling scenes will keep your heartbeat racing. For those looking for a more interactive experience, the zombie paintball hayride is perfect, as you hunt zombies from the safety of your hayride vehicle.

Finally, don’t miss the Haunted Forest, a Nashville classic that transforms the serene woods into a horrifying playground filled with terror. As you walk through this hair-raising outdoor attraction, you will encounter ghastly creatures, eerie scenes, and unexpected scares that will make your blood curdle.

The Ryman Auditorium is not only a renowned concert venue, but it’s also said to be haunted by the spirit of Hank Williams Sr. Many have claimed to hear him singing late at night when the Opry is quiet. Get your fill of country music and ghost sightings all in one place!

A visit to the Hermitage , the famous historic home of President Andrew Jackson, may leave you with more than just a history lesson. Visitors and staff have reported seeing the former president wandering the grounds and even hearing the sounds of his horse trotting through the property. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting spirit for the capital of Tennessee.

For an eerie adventure, head south of Nashville to Spring Hill , home to some of the area’s most notorious ghost stories. At the Pegram County Cemetery , it’s said that you can hear the voices of the deceased, especially on moonlit nights.

The spooky stories don’t end there! The now-abandoned Tennessee State Prison has an unnerving atmosphere, with legends of past prisoners’ spirits lurking in the shadows. Urban explorers have reported hearing whispers, footsteps, and even feeling unseen presences when traversing the once-thriving prison. (Note that the prison is not currently open)

Finally, a trip to the Isaac Franklin Plantation – Fairvue should be high on your list of haunted sites in Nashville. Known as one of the most haunted places in Nashville , this historic mansion is home to mysterious specters, including the “Black Lady,” who roams the property in a grand antebellum-era gown.

Nashville’s rich history lends itself to a variety of haunted happenings. So the next time you’re in the mood for a ghostly encounter, tour these chilling locations and see for yourself just how spirited the Music City can be.

Safety and Age Restrictions

As a Nashville native, I can assure you that safety is a top priority at these local haunted houses. They take numerous safety measures to ensure a thrilling yet secure experience for all visitors. From fire exits to clearly marked paths, you will feel both spooked and safe going through these attractions!

That being said, haunted houses in Nashville can range from family-friendly to terrifying, so it’s essential to consider the intended audience before making your visit. If you’re coming with young kids, keep an eye out for age-appropriate haunts, which include both scary and family-friendly options.

Please note that minors aged 15 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult while on some properties, like the Nashville Nightmare property. The accompanying adult doesn’t have to purchase a ticket but is responsible for the behavior and safety of the minors. This ensures that our younger guests can still enjoy the haunting festivities under the guidance of a responsible adult.

It’s crucial to understand that, like any thrilling activity, there’s an element of assumed risk when venturing into haunted houses. Stick to the designated paths, follow the safety instructions given by the staff, and use caution when navigating dark and disorienting areas.

In the end, it’s all about having a spine-tingling, fun-filled experience while also keeping safety in mind. By following these guidelines and choosing the appropriate haunted house for your group, you can have a fantastic time exploring the spooky and eerie delights that Nashville has to offer.

Other Haunted Houses and Paranormal Activity

You might not know, but Nashville, Tennessee, has its fair share of haunted places and eerie ghost sightings to satisfy thrill-seekers and paranormal enthusiasts alike. Allow me to share some of the otherworldly experiences you can find right here in our beloved Music City.

First off, there’s the Isaac Franklin Plantation , where the infamous slave trader Isaac Franklin once lived. Known for his brutality, he kept his slaves chained at all times, and some say their souls are still bound to the property. If you decide to visit, brace yourself for an eerie encounter with the tormented spirits tethered to this location.

Another spot to check out on your ghost-hunting journey is the Thomas House Hotel , considered one of the most haunted places in the United States. Built on an ancient Native American trail, the hotel has a dark past filled with deaths, murders, and accidents. Guests have reported cold spots, disembodied voices, and sightings of shadowy figures.

In addition to haunted houses, Nashville is also home to some spooky paranormal activity. For instance, there’s the Trahern Theater located inside Austin Peay State University, said to be haunted by Margaret, a ghost who likes to mess with elevators and electricity. She’s also known for locking doors, banging on lockers, and calling out student names. While studying at the University, we’ve all heard some spine-chilling stories about Margaret’s antics.

So, as a fellow Nashvillian, I encourage you to explore these haunted locations and experience the city’s paranormal activity for yourself. Remember, though, to approach these places with respect and an open mind. You’re bound to walk away with some unforgettable memories – and maybe even a ghost story of your own.

Nashville’s Famous Haunted Sites

As a fellow Nashville native, I’d like to share with you some of the city’s most famous haunted sites that are worth exploring. Here in Nashville, we’ve got our fair share of spine-chilling locations with stories that will give you goosebumps. Let’s take a closer look at a few noteworthy spots.

Ryman Auditorium : Nashville’s famous “Mother Church of Country Music” has hosted countless legendary performances over the years, but it also has its share of supernatural stories. It’s said that the spirit of Hank Williams Sr. still lingers within the building, occasionally singing his tunes and roaming the halls. Some have even claimed to see his apparition on stage, a haunting reminder of the past. So the next time you’re catching a show at Ryman, keep your eyes open—you never know who might be making a ghostly appearance!

Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary : Located a bit outside of Nashville, this historic prison is now a popular tourist spot for ghost hunters and those curious to stare fear in the face. From dark, underground tunnels to the abandoned cellblocks, there’s a lot to explore here. Visitors have reported eerie whispers, unexplainable cold spots, and even the feeling of being watched. Many believe the restless souls of former inmates still haunt the halls, seeking redemption—or perhaps just a chance to scare the living daylights out of you.

Haunted Davidson Street : This mysterious stretch of road in our beloved Nashville has its share of spooky goings-on. With the rumors of apparitions appearing and vanishing into thin air, it’s no wonder that people often avoid this area late at night. Personally, I can assure you that walking down Davidson Street after dark gives you an unsettling feeling, as though you’re being observed by unseen eyes.

These three intriguing sites are just the tip of the iceberg in Nashville’s world of the supernatural. Each location has its unique story, so don’t be afraid to dig deeper and uncover more frightening tales from our beautiful city. Remember, you never know what might be lurking around the corner!

Most Haunted Places in Nashville, TN

Any fan of the paranormal is going to really love Nashville. Why? Well, to put it simply – this city has been around for a very long time and as you might expect, that means that there are plenty of spirits hanging around!

Let’s dig a little bit deeper into the most haunted places in Nashville, TN:

10 – Ryman Auditorium

Ryman Auditorium

Ryman Auditorium has more than one spirit reportedly haunting the building. The most commonly seen, is a shadowy figure of a man up on the balcony.

Lots of staff and performers alike have reported seeing him up there during their rehearsals, but nobody actually knows who he is or why he is still lingering in the Ryman Auditorium.

However, another spirit that has been seen is certainly more well known. A number of people claim that they have seen country music legend Hank Williams Sr. wandering around backstage.

9 – Two Rivers Mansion

Two Rivers Mansion

Aside from being one of the most haunted places in Nashville, Two Rivers Mansion is also among the most mysterious. Why? Well, nobody can really say for sure why the property is haunted or who is doing the haunting!

However, there is plenty of ghostly activity happening regardless of this lack of information. People report lights turning on and off when the building is empty, shadows flitting past the windows, cold spots and phantom footsteps.

Perhaps one day this spirit will reveal itself or its identity, but until then, its just a cool spot for paranormal fans to visit!

8 – Pegram County Cemetery

In 1970, a group of developers bulldozed an area along Harpeth River to build a new housing estate. However, the land that was dug up included the Pegram Family Cemetery and it was completely destroyed.

The dirt that was removed was sold on and used as fill dirt which ended up being spread across Davidson and Cheatham County! A few years later, the river waters rose and completely flooded the new homes that had been built on the land.

During the flood, several coffins that the developers had failed to remove, floated up to the surface. Ever since, the area has flooded with alarming regularity and the town has had a run of financial hardship. Leading many to believe that the desecrated land has been cursed.

The fire department has reported fires, that simply reignite even after being properly extinguished. Residents have seen tombstones materializing in their yards.

Even those just passing through say that there is a feeling of malice that lingers in the air. As thought the angry spirits of those whose Earthly remains were disturbed, have been lingering in order to seek vengeance on the town.

7 – Isaac Franklin Plantation

Isaac Franklin Plantation

Back in the day, Isaac Franklin was a very well known, not to mention very successful slave trader. However, he was not a very pleasant human being.

He was one of the most brutal men in the human trade and kept his slaves chained at all times.

Some say he has chained their very souls to his plantation. Which would certainly explain why they are seen around the property with such frequency.

6 – The Hermitage

The Hermitage

The Hermitage was the former home of America’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson. In life he was known to be a determined man with a fiery temper.

He almost always got his own way. It seems likely that such a man would not want to simply leave his home, just because he had passed away so perhaps that is why. The Hermitage is one of the most haunted houses in Nashville.

A large number of people who have visited the property have claimed to have seen an apparition that fits Jackson’s description walking around the halls.

5 – Bell Witch Cave

Bell Witch Cave

Even people who are not particularly interested in the paranormal have heard of the Bell Witch! While the Bell Witch Cave is actually in Adams, it is close enough that we think it qualifies as one of the most haunted places in Nashville!

The story is known the world over and it all began with a feud between two neighbours – John Bell and Kate Batts. It is said that Ms Batts tortured Bell’s daughter Betsy for several years during her childhood. All because she thought she had been cheated by Mr Bell during a land deal.

On her death bed Ms Batts, who was believed to be practising witchcraft, swore an oath that she would haunt the Bell family for the rest of eternity.

Even Andrew Jackson, who went on to be a president, believed that the land was cursed and after spending a night at the Bell Farm was famously quoted as saying, ‘I had rather face the entire British Army than to spend another night with the Bell Witch’.

The farm became so notorious that it was torn down for safety reasons. However, to this day those visiting the cave say that they hear chains rattling and strange knocking sounds.

There have also been reports of strange looking animals in the area!

4 – Tennessee State Capitol

Tennessee State Capitol

One of the most haunted places in Nashville is the Tennessee State Capitol building. If you pay a visit to the historic building, you may very well find yourselves hearing the sounds of people arguing.

This is because William Strickland and Samuel Morgan were more or less at odds with one another in life. So why would they be any different in death?

The sounds of their spirits shouting and arguing can still be heard echoing around the building.

This is probably due to the fact that both men were actually buried on the property!

3 – Gaylord Opryland Resort STAY HERE

Gaylord Opryland Resort

The Gaylord Opryland Resort is a stunning hotel complex which is well known for luxury, but behind the opulence is a darker side!

Locals know the story of the Black Lady very well. She dresses in a large black gown from the Antebellum period and although she may look and sound somewhat terrifying, she does not mean the hotel’s guests any harm.

In fact, staff say that she simply stands watching over guests as they roam through the property.

She probably isn’t everyone’s idea of an appropriate babysitter, but nevertheless she means no harm!

2 – Union Station Hotel BOOK NOW

Union Station Hotel

Nashville’s Union Station Hotel was at one time, as the name implies, a railroad station. That was the original purpose of the building when it was built in late 1899s.

However, in 1986 it was converted into a hotel and has become a well known landmark in the city. Thanks to the beautiful architecture it boasts. It also just so happens to be one of the most haunted buildings in Nashville.

There have been various reports of poltergeist activity since the hotel first opened for business and it has been suggested that the activity could be attributed to the spirit of a young woman. Who lost her love during World War II and subsequently committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of the building.

Her apparition has been seen several times repeating her fatal leap.

1 – Tennessee State Prison

Tennessee State Prison

One of the single most haunted places in Nashville, or even the entire state of Tennessee, is surely Tennessee State Prison.

This correctional facility was once home to Tennessee’s electric chair. It is said the screams of the prisoners that were executed in it, are still heard inside this now abandoned structure.

The prison was built in 1898 and aside from serving as a prison it has also been a movie set! Various movies including The Green Mile and Ernest Goes to Jail.

While the prison was in operation, it was notorious for overcrowding, riots and jail breaks. These days there are reports of phantom footsteps, cold spots, apparitions and doors that slam on their own!

Ultimate Guide to the Best Haunted Houses in Nashville TN

Sharing is caring!

I’ve always loved everything about the Halloween season and horror-themed entertainment so it’s natural that I love haunted houses – the entertainment kind. Although, I love visiting actual haunted houses or alleged haunted houses at least. I think I’m pretty lucky that there are so many good options when it comes to haunted houses in Nashville TN and the Nashville area.

I used to be deathly afraid of clowns and I’ll never forget the time a clown chased me from the haunted house to my car. And, yet, I keep on going back in for more. I’m no longer as afraid (I used to not be able to even look at one) but they still get my blood racing when I stumble on one in a haunted house.

So, the next time you’re looking for the best haunted places in the area of Nashville, you’ll have a great time at these places full of horrifying scenes, strobe lights, haunted corn mazes, dark woods, and artistic detail.

Many are open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during October and certain nights in late September. Additionally, Nashville is full of ghost tours and civil war history (which is scary enough in its own right). Even the Ryman Auditorium offers a special Halloween tour.

NASHVILLE GHOSTS: HAUNTINGS OF MUSIC CITY TOUR

Nashville ghosts boos and booze haunted pub crawl, nashville southern comforts food tour, east nashville insta-mural tour, natural disaster, suicide, and tunnels, all with a country soundtrack.

Nashville has become synonymous with the country music industry. The big three record labels (BMG, Warner, and Universal) each have dedicated iconic buildings in the city, and virtually every country music star has rolled through the town at some point in their career. Our tour will dig into that side of the city while exploring so much more. Walk with us through Broadway’s active nightlife and discover the sinister secrets hidden in some of the area’s most popular locations. Learn about the bar where Hank Williams Sr. still grabs a drink or the storied history of the ghosts legendary Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Ole Opry radio show .

Listen to tales of the tragic aftermath of the 2010 floods, which subjected Nashville to one in 1,000-year flooding after days of torrential rain. The flooding devastated the whole city and added a deep psychic pain to the whole area. The floods filled the mysterious and beautifully crafted tunnels that snake underneath much of the city and into the Smoky Mountains. Hear about the uses of the tunnels over the years, and the ghosts who haunt them to this day.

The city existed long before the music industry, and while that makes up a large portion of its modern identity, there is a rich history that adds to the depth of the area’s paranormal activity.

The stories on our tour will likely thrill and frighten you, but they will also provide a fascinating window into the city’s personality as it was, and the place you will see today.

What draws the supernatural to Nashville?

Nashville is one of the most active paranormal locations in the country, and after taking this tour, you will know its deepest darkest secrets. When we tell you about the lives impacted by the flood, the terrible acts of a jealous lover, or the dark history that literally hides underneath the city, you will get a glimpse of Nashville that few truly understand.

Nashville is built on the hopes and dreams of musicians from around the world. People flock to the city, hoping to become the next Johnny Cash, but the truth is, there is only one Johnny Cash. Hitting it big in the music industry requires a combination of raw talent and lottery-ticket luck that few people manage.

When people don’t realize their dreams, and even when they do, it can often lead to tragic and horrible circumstances. Our tour offers a steadfast look at what makes Nashville such a haunted city. Every story you will hear on the Nashville Ghosts tour showcases the tragedy that hides behind the sequined cowboy hats and leather fringes of the city’s aspiring musicians.

Our blood-chilling collection of ghost stories will get under your skin and burn into your memory. Long after you leave the city, you will recall the horrifying stories that lay under the glitzy veneer of the Athens of the South.

The many ghosts of Printers Alley

To give you a taste of the tour, here’s a short preview of a couple of the ghost stories from one section of the tour. Printers Alley holds many stories that the people involved here would prefer to remain undisturbed. For many years the city’s Red Light district used to be a district of printers and publishers, hence the name Printers Alley.

It became known for the many bars and clubs and the 2 newspapers, 13 publishers, and many print shops on the narrow street. Dozens of up and coming musicians cut their teeth entertaining the hard to win over crowds down here. Many at the Rainbow Room, now Skulls’ Rainbow Room.

As prohibition threatened to close many of the venues, the original Rainbow Room’s owner scrawled a note that he would rather die than lose his business and home. He shot himself on the third floor, overlooking the bright streetlights of Printers Alley.

The building was abandoned, and his ghost was left in peace to roam the third floor for 13 years until David “Skull” Schulman bought the place. He renovated the bar, embraced the neighborhood, and quickly became the beloved ‘Mayor of printers Alley,’ spreading good deeds and cheer, often wearing colorful suits. Until, one day, Skull was savagely beaten and killed by two opportunistic robbers.

His ghost joined that of the original owner in haunting Printers Alley, which continues to attract revelers and Nashville’s striving musicians. Who knows, you may hear the voice of one of the future stars of the country music scene drifting out of the doors of one of the clubs.

It’s the music – naturally

Nashville has been central to most Country musician’s stories, But Hank Williams Sr. was a legend for his soulful songs like “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and “Hey, Good Lookin’.” He came to Nashville with a career just beginning, dreams in his eyes, and a mean guitar technique he learned from a family friend.

He auditioned for the Grand Old Opry in September of 1946. It was every country singers dream to win a spot on the live show broadcast on the Radio, and the pinnacle of the growing country music scene. His first audition was unsuccessful, and Hank drowned his sorrow, perhaps a little too much at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Broadway.

He eventually made it into the Opry and had a stellar career; however, he was continually plagued by alcoholism that helped mask a troubled past and ongoing chronic pain. A hunting accident added more pain to his life and an addiction to pain killers.

He got less and less reliable and was fired from the Opry for missing his slot once again. He headed straight for Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge and leaned heavily on the shoulder of Tootsie, the owner.  He never recovered from the rejection and tragically died in a car crash a few months later. The ghost of Hank Williams Sn. returned to Tootsies to hang around when the music starts playing. Maybe one of the musicians he heard was Willie Nelson, who got one of his first paying gigs at Tootsies.

With this much success and failure flowing in Nashville’s streets, there are always winners and losers, and in the wake of loss, ghosts follow.

See Tootsies and the Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Old Opry on the Nashville Ghosts tour route.

Civil War letters

The Civil War had a grave effect on the city. Tearing families apart and ripping young lovers from one another’s arms. The US Postal Service was in its infancy, but letters from that fascinating period do survive.

One such stream of correspondence was found in the walls on a restaurant of the Nashville Ghosts path through the City of Music. Merchants Restaurant has been in business for over 125 years. A pack of letters from Georgia Edmundson to her beau Charlie Keenan were found during a recent renovation.

The letters start out with Georgia full of love for her soldier beau away at the front. But halfway through the correspondence, the tone changes. Veiled accusations start, and the tone drips with disdain. She concluded one letter with an outright accusation of infidelity and confessions of feeling betrayed and heartbroken.

Whatever Charlie Keenan did or didn’t do, he barely survived the Civil War, limping home to Nashville in search of his former love. His search was in vain, and the heartbreak took the ultimate toll. Charlie Keenan took his own life and haunts the restaurant to this day. Book your place on the Nashville Ghosts tour to hear how he still makes his presence felt.

With so many tours and activities to choose from Nashville, how do you choose which ones to book?

Not everyone believes in ghosts, that’s OK, but we think everyone should at least be open to the possibility. The Nashville Ghosts tour will not try to get you into a séance, or communing with the dead, but we will tell you stories straight out of the history books and share confirmed accounts of ghosts sightings and unexplained phenomena.

Actually standing in the spooky and atmospheric streets of Nashville will bring the stories alive, and although we’ve had many tour participants experience actual ghosts on our tours, everyone has different degrees of perception to the spirits of people from the past.

Children and animals are, in our experience, the most perceptive and open-minded to seeing and believing ghosts. But if you are a fan of Hank Williams Sr. and we tell you the story of his haunting of Tootsies Orchid Lounge it does stand to reason you might be more open-minded than most others. We hope any fans who do consider the tour might be lucky enough to see him walk past them into the bar.

In Nashville and Not Sure of What to Do?

Nashville has a lot to offer the visitor. It’s easy to fill your day with the big sights of the city and then dance the night away along Printers Alley. But that time slot after dinner and before the bars truly get going is the perfect time to soak up some history and the legendary ghost stories from the Athens of The South.

Nashville Ghosts can help you get the most out of your time here. We have the full story of the most fascinating places in town. You’ll be able to share stories of what happens in the basements of some of the bars along Printers Alley!

In one French restaurant on Printers Alley the basement has a small grate in a rear wall that leads into the networks of tunnels. Rumor has it that if you put your ear to the grate, you can sometimes hear the moans of those who lost their lives in these tunnels.

One such story concerns a pregnant slave starting the long and treacherous journey north on the Underground Railroad, aiming to get to relatives in a free city before she gave birth. Eyewitness accounts described the journey as stressful and this brought on early labor for this poor woman, who struggled and screamed in the tunnels right under Printers Alley. Unfortunately, there were complications, and mother and child were both lost that night. The tunnels were the last place to hear their desperate pleas for freedom. Their screams have long been heard in the tunnels that you can peek into from the basement of this French restaurant.

You’ve got a limited amount of time in Nashville

Nashville is a well-connected destination, and you might only have a night or two in town. Our tour will show you the sights and give you a deep dive into a carefully curated set of historical facts and entertaining ghost stories.

On the standard tour, we’ll cover the highlights of the Country Music the town is famous for as well as the buzzing nightspots on Printers Alley. On the extended tour, we’ll visit 4 extra destinations, including the state capitol and the grave of President James K. Polk, a minor league but some say, underrated president, who to this day is still on the move!

Take a ‘staycation’ in your home town

you exhausted everything your town has to offer? Stayed at every hotel, been to every bar or restaurant? How well do you know the history of your own town? Nashville Ghosts is sure to give even the longest resident something new to tell their friends.

Your tour offers new insights into familiar sights, thanks to the deep research that goes into every location on the standard and extended tour. We welcome locals, who often have enlightening anecdotes to share and personal insight to add.

Come and see your town from a brand-new angle with Nashville Ghosts.

Get the scariest offers and stay current on sales and events.

Sometimes eating out is part of the joy of travel, but tourist destinations always pump up prices, making the same meals you might find in a different part of town significantly pricier. Not everyone wants to cook on vacation, either. </p> <p><strong><em>Find Out: <a href="https://www.gobankingrates.com/saving-money/shopping/costco-brand-items-not-worth-the-money/?utm_term=related_link_1&utm_campaign=1197723&utm_source=msn.com&utm_content=2&utm_medium=rss" rel="">9 Costco Brand Items That Aren't Worth the Money</a></em></strong><br><strong><em>More: <a href="https://www.gobankingrates.com/credit-building-steps-you-cant-afford-not-to-take-during-inflation-1466021/?utm_source=msn.com&utm_term=related_link_2&utm_campaign=1197723&utm_content=3&utm_medium=rss" rel="">3 Easy Tips To Turn Your Credit Woes Into Wows</a></em></strong></p> <p><a href="https://www.gobankingrates.com/saving-money/food/10-easy-ways-to-save-on-food-while-traveling/?utm_term=incontent_link_2&utm_campaign=1197723&utm_source=msn.com&utm_content=4&utm_medium=rss">To save money on food while you travel, these experts weigh in with their tips.</a></p>

Miami or Sarasota, Florida

Molly Egan, a travel and hospitality expert and founder of themollyegan , recommended Florida as an inexpensive destination.

Discover: 8 Tips to Fly Business Class for the Price of Economy Related: Don't Buy Airline Tickets at This Time of Day

She stated, "For a beach getaway in Florida, such as Miami or Sarasota, plan a visit in October or early May to avoid peak times. You will avoid the snowbird crowds, spring breakers and heat, and best of all, snag a great lodging and flight deal!"

The same timing goes for Western Colorado towns such as Vail, Colorado."</p> <p>She continued, "The beginning of October is a great time to see the leaves changing, go hiking, feel like you have the whole mountain town to yourself and find the best lodging deals. If you are interested in skiing, the best time is late November or early December and early to mid-April (the skiing conditions vary, but the deals are the best)."</p> <p><strong>See: <a href="https://www.gobankingrates.com/saving-money/travel/expensive-destinations-that-will-be-cheaper-in-2024/?utm_term=related_link_5&utm_campaign=1251033&utm_source=msn.com&utm_content=7&utm_medium=rss" rel="">11 Expensive Vacation Destinations That Will Be Cheaper in 2024</a></strong></p>

Savannah, Georgia

Tracy Kennedy, an experienced travel advisor at Tasmania , noted, "If you're eyeing an affordable yet enriching U.S. trip for 2024, Savannah, Georgia, should be high on your list. The city is a perfect blend of traditional Southern charm and modern allure, and it's an ideal destination for a 2-3 day weekend getaway. Flights to Savannah are usually economical, with multiple carriers offering competitive rates."

She added, "Once there, you can enjoy quintessential forms of tourism such as exploring the historic district, strolling through Forsyth Park, and taking a riverboat cruise. The culinary scene is exceptional but won't break the bank, offering classic Southern dishes that are rich in flavor but easy on the wallet."

She also stated, "However, what sets Savannah apart is its unique offerings like the Sorrel Weed House Museum. This historic haunted house provides an unforgettable experience, especially if you're planning a trip around Halloween. Not only does it offer a glimpse into 19th-century life in the South, but it also has its share of ghost stories and paranormal activities, adding a thrilling element to your visit."

Asheville, North Carolina

Adrian Todd, an outdoor and travel expert, hiking coach and owner of Great Minds Think Hike , said, "One of my favorite places to go to is Asheville. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a great destination with various things to do."

He continued, "Asheville has some of the most breweries in and around than most places East of the Mississippi. You can hike in the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visit the Biltmore Estate, or explore the artsy downtown area."

Santa Fe, New Mexico

"Santa Fe is a really neat place," Todd also noted. He explained it is "full of neat adobe style houses and architecture. I recommend going to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, but to make sure to book way ahead in advance."

He also suggested, "Check out the oldest house and church in the US near the downtown area. Be sure to visit the Loretto Chapel to see the mysterious staircase and head to the downtown area during the market when all the natives come by to sell handcrafted items."

Nashville, Tennessee

"Nashville is historically known for its live music scene and offers a vibrant atmosphere and many free or affordable activities," stated Todd. "You can explore the city's music history, visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, and enjoy live music in honky-tonks," he said.

The hiking enthusiast added, "There are also a lot of things to do out in nature in Tennessee if the city life isn't your cup of tea. Check out the Great Smoky Mountains to visit the most popular and visited national park in the US."

Loveland, Ohio

"Loveland, Ohio, is known as the 'Sweetheart of Ohio,'" explained Krista Rose, marketing and communications coordinator for the City of Loveland. "We are the perfect destination for a Midwest trip on a budget! We are often told Loveland feels like a 'resort town' and 'time slows down here.'"

She continued, "Loveland is located about 15 miles north of Cincinnati and close to major highways including I-75 and I-71. We are known for our river and trails, making us a favorite trip for outdoor enthusiasts."

For outdoor adventure seekers she recommended, "the Little Miami Scenic Trail is an 80-mile bike/pedestrian trail across Ohio. This trail runs through the center of Loveland. Visit for a day of canoeing, kayaking, and outdoor adventure! After you explore the trail, explore Historic Downtown Loveland's unique shopping and dining. There are quaint AirBNBs and a boutique hotel in town."
