Start by choosing which hobbies you are going to talk about in the essay. You can choose to list several different hobbies and you can only focus on one. The key is to be true and not make up your hobbies. Your hobbies are a description of your personality. In your essay, you can start by stating what your hobby is followed by how your love for that hobby originated, what inspired you to take up that hobby and how it helps you emotionally. Describe how it helped you develop new skills or helped in certain life situations and helped you become a better person. You can also describe the impact it had on somebody else, like suppose you love nature, so you planted trees which in turn helped the environment or how you like to do social work and helped a homeless shelter. This way, through the essay, a person can understand your values, your vision and your character.

A hobby is work which a person does with much satisfaction and amusement. It is a kind of recreation, a shadow from the scorching beam of the sun and also getting fruit from it. I have been interested in gardening since my childhood. I like to see the green velvety grass, different colours of flowers and beautiful plants. So, I have selected a piece of land in my house and planted different kinds of flowers. I have planted a red rose, yellow and black rose plants and have arranged them one after another. The flowers of -Night Queen”, “Jasmine” and “King of the day” have filled the atmosphere with attractive fragrance. In the evening my family spend their time in the garden. I have also planted Guava and Neem trees, which give shade from the scorching beam and also get fruit from it. I have also reserved a piece of land for growing vegetables and getting different seasonal vegetables. Though gardening is hard work and expensive, the hard labour makes my health sound and we get fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers.

Here is a sample essay on my hobby that students can refer to.

Routine work makes us monotonous. To break it we often look for interesting and exciting things to do. Hobbies are the best way to divert attention side by side with work. We need entertainment from time to time. At such times a good hobby is very useful. Hobbies provide recreation. They entertain us and at the same time are valuable in the sense that they develop a personality.

My hobby is singing. People often resort to gardening, reading, stamp collecting, bird watching, etc. However, I love to listen to music and also to sing. I have a large collection of tapes and I listen to all kinds of music. My collection ranges from classical music to Rock and from Indian music to the Western one. My hobby is to listen to these songs carefully and then to learn them. I sit with a paper and a pen and write down the lyrics of the songs that I hear. Then I hum along and soon I know the tunes too.

I switch the tape recorder off and then I pretend to be the singer myself. I sing the song exactly the way it was sung by the playback singer. I succeed at times and sometimes fail. Once I feel that I have begun to sing perfectly I tape my own voice. When I listen to the recording I listen objectively and try to locate my faults in singing. This helps me to improve on my singing and I find that also helps me to use my talent to my advantage.

Whenever I go to a party, my friends persuade me to sing. Once I begin, the party livens up, people join in and the place is filled with the sound of music. I feel proud of myself and my friends also praise me because they feel that I become the life of the party. I play the guitar and sing when we go on a picnic or when I have a free period in school.

My hobby makes me happy and also brings joy to all my relatives and friends. It is necessary that everybody must have some hobby. It educates man, gives him pleasure, and helps him to utilize his free time fruitfully. If a person has no hobby, his spare time will turn him into a useless, irritated and restless person. “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop”. It is, therefore, essential to remain busy even during leisure hours. Hobbies always come to one’s help.

“Hobbies are subjective – one person’s enjoyment might be another person’s idea of boredom – but no matter what brings someone happiness, hobbies and interests outside of work are the ultimate acts of resistance against capitalism.”

Three professionals from different parts of the world share how they have discovered new hobbies during the pandemic. These new finds have allowed productive and mental health breaks from the monotony and burnout of work, changing their lives for the better.

“What if we allowed ourselves to devote our time and attention to something just because it makes us happy? Or, better yet, because it enables us to truly recharge instead of carving our time into smaller and smaller pieces for someone else’s benefit?”

A woman at a wedding is genuinely proud of her achievement of sewing in pockets on her dress. But that’s only until she realizes she hasn’t made a dime. As hobbies-turned-hustles steadily rise, it offers people a potential doorway to quit their jobs. However, it also dampens how others feel about their hobbies when they don’t commercialize them.

“…The nay-sayers regularly cite television as not being a true hobby because it doesn’t require any creative input or a sense of progress; essentially, you sit back and let the TV do its magic while you enjoy without any thought.”

With obesity and inactivity associated with watching TV, some people refuse to classify the activity as a hobby. They argue that watching TV is not even a productive pursuit. However, as hobbies are defined as things that make us feel relaxed and happy, they can still count as a hobby and could even be mind-challenging as other hobbies if we choose the right content.

“Drawing had helped me survive another very dark period of my life, earlier. Could it now be helping me to stay healthy?”

A former news editor finds a safe space in drawing again – this time with more regularity after losing a job. Trapped in a dark period, Donohue shares his story of how drawing helps relax his mind, citing several studies to support the mental health benefits one can reap from art activities and hobbies.

“He spent so much time on his various physical activities that his father once asked him if he had chosen any advanced courses of study. ‘Yes, advanced swimming,’ was Brin’s famous response.”

In this essay, talk about how you discovered this hobby. Did you choose it on your own, or is it something your parents encouraged you to do? Next, recollect the happy thoughts you have when doing your hobbies. Then, look at how this positive energy spills over to the other aspects of your life and your outlook on your ambitions. Finally, write about the important life lessons you learned from taking up your hobbies.

Pursuing your hobbies might seem nearly impossible when you have a loaded schedule. However, even the most organized of us can find challenges in squeezing in some me-time with hobbies. So, try to challenge your readers to strictly give up a few hours a week to commit to what they love doing. Then, encourage them to engage in their hobbies with friends and family who share similar interests to make the most out of their free time.

Essays About Hobbies: Most affordable hobbies

There are several hobbies out there that don’t cost you much but could still be as fun. It would depend mainly on a person’s preference, mindset, and budget. So, list some low-cost hobbies and creative ideas on how people can spend less while getting the best experience out of a hobby.

Hobbies are the first thing that goes out of the window in the schedule plan of the busiest people. But working too hard for a long duration can create a monotonous life. Workers are left questioning their sense of purpose when this happens and may fall into depression. For your essay, convince your busy readers to spare some time and turn their attention to passion and away from profit. Talk about the more excellent value that can be reaped from the fulfillment of hobbies.

Research studies have shown that hobbies help us achieve clarity, relaxation, and a recharged mind and body. So, gather a few recent studies enumerating the physiological and mental health benefits of consistently engaging in a hobby. Then, help your readers take the small steps to add their hobbies into their daily or weekly schedule.

Are there passion projects or activities you’ve meant to do but abandoned long ago? It may be a hobby that sparked your interest years ago that you’re reconsidering trying out. Write about what factors first drew you to this hobby and how you intend to try it out. Then, provide your ultimate criteria on how you would know if this hobby suits you well. Finally, encourage people to overcome their fears of attempting something new.

Encouraging kids to take up their hobbies can help them break away from their long screen time. But, more importantly, hobbies enable children to be productive and hone their mastery of a certain craft early. For this prompt, write down recommendations from child behavior experts on how parents can effectively direct their children’s energy to more worthwhile things such as nurturing a hobby.

Having common interests can strengthen the bond of friendship and family. Write about hobbies you and your best friend or family members do together. Talk about how often you gather to enjoy your hobbies. Then, reminisce on the most memorable memories you’ve had while doing what you love to do.

Taking part in a hobby gives us the impression and confidence that we can be masters of our craft. Unfortunately, it’s an achievement we often deny in our professional or academic circles, leaving us pressured to push ourselves to our limits. For this prompt, research further on the scientific connection between engaging in hobbies and advancing your self-esteem.

Some of us have eccentric hobbies that get the attention of bullies. Sadly, because of bullying, many tend to give up these hobbies to find something more “socially acceptable.” Write about how people can focus on doing things that spark joy in them. My Favourite Hobby

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. The way my feet moved to the rhythm of the music convinced my parents that I was a born dancer. Dancing is very uplifting as well as economical.

I have always had a love for music and dance. However, I never realized the utter joy they bring to humans. Dancing gives us a lot of exercises. It teaches us to move our body rhythmically and feel the beat of every song. This kind of physical exercise is extremely delightful and enjoyable.

Moreover, dance also taught me how to stay strong and push my limits. I have had many injuries while dancing, too many bruises and cuts but that didn’t stop me from pursuing it further. In fact, it pushes me to do my best and realize my potential more than ever.

I have enrolled in dancing classes because I wish to make my hobby my career. I feel we all should do things which we enjoy doing. Everyone is running after money and in this race, they give up their likings and preferences. I have learned from this race and decided to not take part in it. I wish to take the road less traveled by and take on challenges most people don’t dare to.

In short, my hobby of dancing makes me feel alive and well. It is the only thing I look forward the most to. Thus, I hope to achieve my dream of being a professional dancer and making way for people who wish to make careers out of their hobbies.

Here we will give some advice and discuss common mistakes in a “My hobbies” essay.

Follow these rules to prepare your paper wisely.

Essay on Hobbies Rule#1 Choose the Topic

First of all, you need to ensure that the hobby essay title you chose is appropriate to your paper’s length. If it is a short 100-word or 150-word essay, you can pick a simple topic. The longer the paper, the more complex issue you need. It also depends on your level of studies: high school and college paper topics have different requirements.

Your paper might also require some scientific research. In this case, look for a topic on which you can find enough information. Don’t be afraid to change or adjust the focus if you can’t find sufficient materials.

Use our amazing free essay topic generator to get the best topic!

If your instructor gave a list of topics, choose the one that interests you the most. You can also make a shortlist before you pick the most suitable title.

Essay on Hobbies Rule#2 Plan before Writing

Create a list of the essential points of your hobbies essay. Planning is vital as every paper needs a structure. Otherwise, you just might end up worshiping your hobby. This is the number one mistake.

Your outline should consist of three main parts:

  • Introduction. You need to state your topic and describe what the paper is about.
  • Body. Develop your arguments or narrative and provide evidence if necessary.
  • Conclusion. Summarize the information you provided in the previous paragraphs.

Find rare aspects of your hobby. They can include equipment, locations, your achievements, and inspiration, etc.

If your hobby is rather popular, share a unique story connected with it.

Essay on Hobbies Rule#3 Filter What You Say

The first thing you should remember: be as objective as possible. No matter how much you love your hobbies, you better stick to the facts. All the information you provide should be unbiased and reliable.

How can you do it?

  • Make references. Statistics, facts, and all other data will support your statements.
  • Pay attention to vocabulary. You can use jargon and specific terminology as long as it has explanations. Avoid emotional words such as “very,” “terrible,” “awesome.”
  • Don’t use reductions. As for academic writing, it is better to choose full forms.
  • Show opposing points of view. To stay objective, indicate that your ideas have counterarguments.
  • Check English grammar and spelling . Literacy is a must-have for any academic paper.

Writing an essay about your hobby is so exciting! If you don’t know where to start or how to organize your ideas, consider the following outline we’ve prepared to guide you.

And here are some short hobby essay examples for you. Read them to find inspiration. Pay attention to the structure and use them as a reference to your paper.

Let’s start!

Free Time Activities Essay

Each person needs to change their activities. If you have a sedentary job or study a lot, it is great to do some sports. If you move too much, you can enjoy reading a book in a quiet place. People need free time activities to make their lifestyle more enjoyable, healthy and get to know themselves better. First of all, having a hobby creates new experiences for you. Any kind of free time activity develops new skills and teaches you something new. It is excellent to know that you do something for yourself just for pleasure and new emotions. You can also find new friends, visit new places, and participate in events just because you have a hobby. For example, you like running. You can do it alone or join a local community. There are also plenty of amateur competitions that take place in different locations. Hobbies are beneficial for both your mental and physical health. They help you to keep your life in balance. Lacking movement in your daily life means you can compensate for it with sports. If you work from home and don’t communicate with people, you can sign up for group classes. Also, hobbies that require effort make your character more vigorous and more resistant to difficulties. When you spend your free time the way you like it, you become more self-aware. Knowing yourself means that you discover your strengths and weaknesses and understand your preferences better. You know what you are capable of now and what you need to learn to do. It is great to have a hobby to participate in different activities and enrich your life experience with new skills, places, and people. Hobbies also keep you healthy. Free-time activities are crucial for understanding your self-worth, motivations, and strong and weak spots.

My Favorite Hobby Essay

As for a high school student, my hobby might seem untypical. I design custom clothes for my family and peers. I am a seventeen-year-old boy who knows how to sew an evening dress for my mother or to create a tailored suit for any event. I chose this hobby as I was always interested in fashion, I am good at drawing and sketching, and my progress motivates me. It was always curious looking at people on the street when I was a kid. I noticed patterns, silhouettes, and various combinations. I knew some were good, some didn’t suit people, and some were just outdated. That was the moment when I started to notice the difference between fashion and style. Later, I watched fashion shows and educational YouTube videos. It is my dream to own a fashion brand, so I also paid attention to the business part of the process. Sketching clothes is the first step to their creation. I am a good drawer, so there is no problem showing all of my design ideas on paper. You just need a lot of practice. I needed to hone my skills to make proportions and colors seem as natural as possible. I also try to memorize how people look and draw them when I have an opportunity. I own more than twenty sketchbooks full of ideas and inspiration. The more ideas I generate, the easier it becomes. When I see my old sketches or pieces of clothing that I created, I can notice how much I’ve improved. Hard work and knowledge can make your goals achievable. If I don’t know something, I just search for it on the Internet and try it. Maybe you will need to try more than once, but eventually, I can see the result I want. Fashion is one of my greatest passions. That is why I never hesitate to spend some extra money or effort to create something new. I never regretted choosing fashion over any other hobbies because I always knew I was doing what was suitable for me. I know I developed my taste, drawing skills, and persistence because of this hobby. I hope one day it becomes a profession. My dream is to use all my skills and knowledge to create something people will like to wear.

At the first time, my father noticed my reading book and he encouraged me a lot saying that it’s a very good habit, my son. He also advised me not to give up the habit. I was just a small kid and I was very much interested in reading fairy tales and other stories that were given by my dad.

Now, I’m at the age of 10 years and read in class 5. At present, as a mature person, I understand the benefits of reading. Actually, reading a book helps me to achieve all kinds of general knowledge. This kind of habit really helps me to know the unknown, to see the unseen, to discover the undiscovered. I can even know the history, culture, animals, space, human achievements, and other fascinating things about the world.

3. My Hobby Essay (200 WORDS)

In my free time, I love to read interesting and knowledgeable books. Coming from school, I love to read this kind of book while finishing my homework. I’m 11 years old and study in class 7th standard.

Now, I understand that reading is a good habit that will make me a complete boy. Any of us can develop this hobby. In fact, I achieved this naturally. Reading will always keep us busy and happy. It’s a better source of knowledge, inspiration, enjoyment, and instruction.

Besides, this makes us a loyal, punctual, disciplined and successful person in our life. Books are my best friend and I don’t feel alone. This habit is more special than gold or other stones in the world.

However, it gives us a high level of thoughts, experiences, ideas, and knowledge in different fields. I swear if you get interesting and good books, you would take that as your best friend.

The people who don’t have any habit of reading books, they would always be poor due to the lack of rich knowledge. This habit could be achieved by young people.  The habit of reading books can be acquired at a young age by anyone.

4. My Hobby Essay (250 WORDS)

The hobby I like most is watching TV. When I have free time, I love to watch Television. It never interferes with my study. First of all, I like to finish my school home task and then start watching TV.

I think it’s a good habit because watching TV brings a lot of knowledge in any field. Generally, I watch the news and other channels such as discovery channel, animal planet or another informative channel. Sometimes, I watch very good cartoons that provide me creative and new ideas to make cartoons and arts.

My parents admire my hobby and also they are so happy when they just listen to the whole update news through my voice. Now, I study in class three and eight years old boy. I develop my hobby since my childhood.

Watching television in a proper way gives so important roles in one’s life. It helps us to make something creative. It always keeps us an update about all kinds of news and views. It informs us what’s happening across the world.

5. My Hobby Essay – Playing Guitar (300 words)

Whenever people ask me regarding my hobby, I always pause and think for a moment. Even though I like playing all the instruments, my hobby is playing guitar.

When I was 6 years old I suddenly developed a liking for music. I started creating tunes and melodies by beating my desks which sounded like I was playing bongos. I was pretty good at it too. Whenever guests used to come at our place they would request me to play some melody on my dining table as they thought I was very good at it. Of course, in childhood I would get annoyed because playing music was something I wanted to keep to myself.

As I grew up, my hobby developed into playing guitars after my aunt came from Florida and got me a guitar. Now all my time was devoted to learning guitar strings and playing screeching music that would make your ears bleed. But soon, after a lot of practice and perseverance I was able to get hands on learning of guitar strings.   Playing guitar has taught me many things, but the most important thing it has taught me is that the more you play it, the better you become at it. I have hurt my finger with guitar chords many times. Practicing made me learn different notes and now I can play chords such as AM, C, D, G, AM7, CMAJ7 and many more.

Playing guitar gives me the refuge from thinking too much about outside world. It helps me stay calm in the world of chaos. The best thing about it is that I can recreate any tune I want to, which makes me feel very creative and happy that my hobby has developed into a worthwhile talent. i hope that soon I am able to learn other musical instruments as well.

6. My Hobby Essay – Cooking (300 words)

My hobbies have always changed over the time. At one point in my life, I used to paint in my free time. As I grew up, I started cooking as a hobby. I still remember the recipes that I used to download from the internet and work on them with patience. However, I always ended up with burnt pies or undercooked pizza doughs. It was hilarious for my family to see me trying and failing miserably. However, one day I decided to follow my mother’s cooking recipe. I was able to create the dish perfectly then. The happiness I got was priceless so I decided that from that day onwards, I will cook whenever I have free time in my schedule.

From there on, I cook different recipes every day. From lasagna to baked broccoli— I have successfully tried all the recipes. I have realized over the time that cooking is a stress buster and an energy booster. It feels so good after a long hard day at kitchen to finally serve food to your family or guests. Of course, I don’t do it professionally, it is merely a hobby for me. But the joy I receive when I create food from new recipes or invent my own kind of cuisine by mixing up 2 or 3 recipes is beyond price.

One of the best things I like about cooking is that I can experiment on food. I don’t enjoy cooking as a daily chore, but it’s something that I do as a hobby. I love the sound of patties in hot oil, sizzling as they are being fried. I enjoy cutting the colorfully exotic vegetables. The smell of spices and different flavor oozing from my kitchen excite me and make me feel like I am doing something worthwhile. I love cooking as a hobby and it makes me happy that I have learnt it so early in my age.

7. My Hobby Essay – Writing (300 words)

People think a hobby is something you do that you are really good at, but for me it’s different. My hobby is writing and I have been doing it since the age of 5. After coming home from school I would sit at some corner of the house and write about my day. Of course, I did not realize it at that time that I love and enjoy writing. I merely thought that I was penning down my thoughts.

Now just to be clear, I was not good at it. I couldn’t find the words to explain my day. There were a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes and the list goes on. However since I enjoyed doing it in my free time, I kept writing a diary till the age of 12. On my 13 th birthday, I decided to create a blog for my writing musings. I quickly gained a lot of audience as even though I didn’t write well, I included funny tidbits of my daily life in my blogs.

I never earned from my blogs, but I used to take out 30 minutes out of my busy school schedule to make sure that I write and post the blog. Soon I realized that there are some things that you cannot post online, so I diverted back to writing a diary every day. However, after doing this as a hobby for a very long time I have now become a very good writer. I can create my own poems and literature pieces. Moreover I can now write long opinionated articles very well. In my English class, after reading one of my essays my teacher asked me how did I learn to write so well? I smiled and told her ‘Maybe having hobbies actually help us improve our skills after all’

8. My Hobby Essay (300 WORDS)

When it comes to the hobby, it’s a very interesting and good habit for every person. A hobby should have everyone else. Hobby makes everyone busy in free time.

It gets rid of loneliness and prevents from psychological problems. I just remember that when I was three years old kid I used to like spending my free time in the garden. I like so much to be in my green garden with my father every morning.

When I was so small, my parents often laughed at me when I used to pour water on the plants. But now they are so happy and proud to see me in the same garden. I do now everything so perfectly and understand the value of saving plants life. I also understand the importance of trees how they save our lives.

Everyone should have hobbies for every day’s life. Gardening helps us to get a close connection with nature. Hobby increases the pleasure of our mind, soul, and body. It increases our creativity and develops our mind.

My favorite hobby is gardening and I love planting and pouring water every morning. I enjoy the flowers’ blooming and plants growing. Trees grow as like as us. In my garden, I have different types of trees in such as flower trees, mango trees, and some vegetables trees etc. I watch them as my best friend and every day I take care of them. It grows very well.

I realize the great achievement and fact of life. It helps me to be healthy, fit and strong. It always refreshes my mind and gives me a good mood. This types of extra-curricular activities always helps us to develop our motor skills. Finally, everyone should have a good hobby like gardening. Through the hobby, anyone can get a great help for the long run.

9. My Hobby Essay— Reading Books (500 words)

A hobby is something that keeps the passion alive inside you. It can be anything from singing, dancing to reading. My hobby is reading books.

Since childhood, I have always been the kind of kid who was engrossed in reading novels twice the size of my face. In class, at home or even when I would go to visit my relatives, I would always have a novel with me. Reading novels and stories is my hobby. I love that people think I am a nerd for reading books all the time but in reality, reading soothes me. When I come home from a long day at school, I want to come home and read books to divert my mind off the anxiety of school work. It helps me relax and feel better

I have always had this weird feeling that books talk to me and inspire me to become a better person. I take inspiration to be a brand new person everyday whenever I read a book. When I was reading the Pride and Prejudice, I became strong and fierce like Jane. I started having a lot of opinions, and I could feel my personality developing like Jane. However, when I was reading Harry Potter, I could almost swear that I am Harry Potter. In weirdly strange ways I start developing the habits from my favorite characters in the books and start acting that way.

Over my lifetime, I have read over 2000 books. I don’t focus on a particular genre; I just care about the words written inside that book. One of the best things about reading as a hobby is the smell of new books. I feel like I am addicted to the smell of pages and the sound of a crisp page turning as I get access to the new chapter of the book.

There are many reasons why I enjoy reading books so much. One of the top reasons is that I love travelling, and since I don’t afford travelling so often, I can travel from the Mediterranean islands to the beaches of Florida, from the 16 th Century to the 18 th Century, all through my books. I can live the lives of lords and ladies, and even see the world through the eyes of prince and princesses. A book seems like the most private thing and I feel like a whole new being after reading a book.

Another reason why I love reading so much is that my mind feels fresh after I read the books. I get a lot of information that others are unaware of, which makes me ready to face any challenges of life.

My father realized my passion in an early age and got me a membership to my city’s library. I now visit the library every week, sometimes even twice a week to borrow my favorite books and read, read and read! I know that hobbies are only considered a way of passing time, but I can safely say that my hobby has actually become my passion.

10. My Hobby Essay – Painting and Drawing (500 words)

There comes a time in everybody’s life when they are feeling at a loss for words. There are moments when people want to communicate their feelings but can’t find the words to explain those feelings. At those times, painting or drawing is the perfect way to communicate your feelings to the world. My hobby is drawing and painting. There is nothing more in the world that I enjoy more than drawing, painting and filling colors in the sky that I drew up myself.

I developed this hobby a few years ago after we were assigned to paint a picture book for our summer vacation holidays. Naturally, I thought I am not good at painting but as the days passed I practiced and became better at it. Colors, lines and the strokes of paint brushes made me feel like I am doing something great. I started exploring painting and drawing more and creating paintings on different things such as cards, mugs, and even my keychains. It makes me feel relaxed and anxiety-free.

Soon, I started enjoying painting so much that I bought oil paints and started painting cartoon characters on the wall of our backyard.

When my father found out, he acted like he is very furious about it. But later in the day he went out and brought more colors and canvases for me so I can create better paintings and polish this hobby as much as I want to. Then I used to draw on canvases and paint them and hang them around in our house. All the guests used to praise my art and drawings a lot and this gave me a confidence boost to know that I am good at something.

I don’t call myself artist, as painting and drawing don’t come naturally to me. It is rather something that I have perfected over the years as I liked doing it. If I have to study painting and drawing I would have never enjoyed it as I don’t like to put boundaries on my art. I like the fact that I am not doing this for a living and that I am not studying it in college. This means that I don’t have to be perfect at it, but enjoy it as I create paintings that are messy and creative. I believe hobbies should never be tied into a profession or education, but they are something that a person should keep for their own happiness.

I have painted over 100 portraits till now. Painting and drawing is something that makes me feel calm and creative. Now that I have developed this talent of writing, I like painting for myself so it makes me happy. Painting and Drawing are a hobby that have become inseparable from me now. It has become not only my favorite pastime but also one of widely appreciated talents.

My Hobby Essay – Tips To Write The Best One

Some of the most common essays your teacher might want you to write are –

  • My hobby essay
  • Science and technology essay
  • Environmental pollution essay
  • Share your story
  • And a topic of your choice

Writing an essay on your hobby does not have to be complicated. If you love doing something just for the sake of doing it, then writing about it should not be a problem. Still, if you need help, then this article should be helpful. This article shares helpful tips on writing the best hobby essay. So, without any delay, you can go ahead and give it a read.

Tips To Write My Hobby Essay

An essay starts with an introduction, where you start with a general description that transitions into a specific topic. Then you write the body leading to a conclusion. For my hobby essay, you will follow the same framework. But, I have pointed out specific areas which you need to cover.

Introduction Of My Hobby Essay

Introduction Of My Hobby Essay

When writing an essay, you need to write the introduction part first. You can start with a general or universal explanation in the beginning, then slowly transition into more specific hobbies.

It is common to start with broad and general sentences. You can create a roadmap the essay will take the readers through in the introduction part. Here is an example of how you can start –

“Most people around us have some hobbies. Hobbies are activities that we love to do during our spare time. Some of us love to read, while others love to play sports, cook, draw, dance, and collect coins or other collectibles. For example, my hobby is drawing.”

Based on your required length, you can expand or confine your ‘my hobby essay’ within a word limit. Ensure that the introduction part is not larger or smaller than it should be. If you are writing a 20-line essay on your hobby, ensure that the introduction part does not take more than 3 to 4 lines.

Different Types Of Hobbies

Different Types Of Hobbies

People have different types of hobbies. But some people usually have more common hobbies. When writing an essay on my hobby, try to incorporate different types of hobbies as a part of your article. Here are some examples of different hobbies —

Reading, dancing, drawing, listening to songs, playing instruments, playing board games, cycling, fishing, traveling, gardening, baking, doing crafts, knitting, and writing poems and stories.

Some uncommon hobbies include bird watching, going to haunted places, stone skipping, element collecting, and pranks.

Talk About Your Hobbies

Talk About Your Hobbies

Once you are done writing the introduction part, write at least 10 lines on ‘my hobby.’ Here is an example –

“My hobby is to draw sketches of cartoon and comic book characters. I love to make simple sketches of Tom & Jerry, Ben 10, Iron-man, Batman, Superman, and Ninja Turtles. Whenever I get the free time to draw, I take my sketchbook and draw whatever character I love to draw.

I find great pleasure in filling up the papers of my sketchbook with characters and stories I love. It is magical how a sheet of paper can turn into something beautiful with different characters brought to life. The scratching sound of a pencil on a paper sheet is calming and soothing. Sketching helps me calm down and relax while I enjoy the creative process.”

Some people have more than one hobby. But, when writing a ‘my hobby essay,’ try to stick to one single hobby. Then start explaining the benefits of having a hobby.

Discuss The Importance Of Hobby

Discuss The Importance Of Hobby

Spending time on hobbies improves your mental health and ensures your overall well-being. People who spend time on their hobbies suffer less from stress, anxiety, depression, and other similar issues. Hobbies also give us a small and instant escape from a busy schedule and relieve tension.

Some hobbies also add value to your life physically, mentally, and monetarily. If your hobby is exercising, you can gain better physical health. You can make money by selling art if you are an art hobbyist.

Once you are done talking about your hobby, you can ponder upon the importance or the benefits of spending time on that hobby. Here is my explanation of drawing for example –

“ Drawing not only improves your skills to draw, but it also fills your mind with imagination and stabilizes your mental conditions. You build a rich mental library of many things observed around you. The process of drawing also makes you more observant than most people.”

We need things in life that we can do for fun and relaxation. These activities need focus, time, and effort. But they don’t tire you. Instead, you feel relieved and happy after spending time on a hobby. For me, it is drawing. I cannot imagine life without drawing.

It is not like I draw all the time. But, when I need an escape and relaxation, I go back to my sketchbooks and pencils. I pack my sketchbook, pencils, and erasers and visit a nearby riverbank, and spend an hour or two drawing whatever comes to my mind.

I have taken a liking to draw since my early childhood. It mesmerized my mind how giving your imagination a visual form on a sheet of paper makes you feel. I loved drawing characters from films, cartoons, and comic books.

Drawing has so many benefits. The first one is that it improves your drawing skills. The more you draw, the better your skill gets. The range of your imagination enriches with more elements added to your mental library. You also develop a better taste in art. Spending time sometimes drawing also makes you a better art critic.

While drawing, you will learn to focus on details, helping you ease your mind from external distractions. You can carry this attention on to another work. Also, it helps you develop your brain and improves your hand-eye coordination.

When you draw, your eyes, brain, and mind synchronize, helping you create something new. it is a wonderful hobby that gives you a sense of purpose. as an artist, you develop your own aesthetic as a person. It is a very good pass time activity that soothes your mind and enlightens you.

my favorite hobby free essay example

Just like everyone has a thing, listening to music was mine. The first time I listened to music was when I was about six years old. It was back when I lived in a suburban area on a farm with my family. My dad always used to put on motivational song tracks in the early morning as he wanted to gather all his motivation for work. As I was a night person, I would not say I liked that I had to wake up early morning every day by listening to some music I did not even like. However, as time passed, this music grew on me, and I realized that I was much like my dad.

As I grew old, I became a true fan of the world of music. Every day in the early morning, I would put on a motivational song track to start my day. I would listen to it the whole day, even while working on the farm, and no one dared to crank the volume down as they knew about my anger.

Unluckily for my sibling and me, not a lot emerged from the training. It was not simply my siblings and me; music runs in the entire family. I remember distinctively on Sunday evenings; we used to do karaoke meetings where everybody performed by singing a song, including our folks. We had these music tracks recorded and afterward shipped off to our neighbors for their reviews. The one who came first in our family would get a prize, purchased from our savings. We saved money weekly purely for the competition. We were the noisy neighbors nearby, yet that did not prevent me from securing a large portion of the prizes. At last, we grew out of the karaoke sessions, and now, I generally do the listening rather than singing.

Music gives me the required asylum whenever I feel like my head is aching, and I need to block out everything around me. The beneficial thing about music is that there is music for each event and feeling. At whatever point I feel discouraged, I tune in to mournful melodies. They direct me and stay with me during those problematic minutes. At whatever point I am glad, I put on my party record melodies that I dance to for quite a long time to intensify the positive sentiment. The excellence of music is that it very well may be joined with different side interests. For example, I love perusing a decent book, as pleasant symphony music plays behind the scenes.

Another beneficial thing about music is that it is universal. You do not need to comprehend what the artist is saying, for you appreciate it. Assuming it causes you to feel better, it merits tuning in to it. I am generally receptive to music. I have a broad assortment of music that rises above numerous types everywhere on the globe. It would not come as a shock in this manner to track down a few African tunes in my iPod or smartphone that I truly rock with and have no clue about the thing they are discussing. Be that as it may, I vibe more with Country and Rock music.

Writing an essay on your hobby is quite an exciting task. However, sometimes it gets pretty tricky to manage such an essay. That is why several students prefer buying professionally written essays online.

Give Wings to your Creative Side with Hobbies

Hobbies play a very crucial role in everyone's life. Whenever we are free, it is good to follow our hobbies. It makes us occupied, and we do not feel idle. Every person finds their happiness and enjoys doing some kind of activity in their leisure time, these activities are known as hobbies.

My Special Hobby

My favourite hobby is watching TV. Whenever I have free time, I love watching Television. It never obstructs my studies. Hobbies help us to expand our knowledge, and it teaches us several things. First, I like to finish all my school homework and then start watching TV. This lightens my mood and sparks up the excitement inside me, as it increases my curiosity about the world. Watching different useful stuff on TV enhances my knowledge horizons and gives me lots of joy.

Benefit of My Hobby

It is a good habit because watching TV escorts a lot of knowledge in various fields. There are several channels on TV, which represent worldwide affairs. I watch the news and I like channels, such as animal planet, discovery channel or another informative channel. These channels increase my curiosity and encourage me to learn about different aspects of life.

I interestingly watch a cartoon network that provides me with creative and new ideas to make cartoons and arts. Some of my favourite comics are Mr Bean, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo and many more. Many art-themed cartoons, like The Pink Panther and SpongeBob, inspire me to draw them. Primarily, the artworks of comics attract me and inspire me to decorate my scrapbooks with their figures.

Parents Find Hobbies Useful

My parents praise my hobby, and they are also happy when they see me watching national and international news and several events on the TV. Moreover, they feel proud when they listen to the news update from me.

Now, I study in class with two and eight years old girls. Creating jokes, sitting idle and spending time roaming around is unproductive, according to my parents. My parents made sure that I developed my hobbies from childhood. Therefore, they encouraged me to create some good habits.

Watching TV in a proper way gives you so many important roles. It helps us to make something creative. It provides us with knowledge about different places, their cultures, climatic conditions and especially their history. Furthermore, it widens our imagination by showing imaginary characters from the marvellous Disney World and Jungle Book.

Importance of Hobby

Getting the latest updates and gaining knowledge about today’s incident is so important. It provides us with a lot of benefits, which help us in developing our knowledge and thoughts. It also enhances our minds of thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Hobbies are all about interest and can only be done in our leisure time. These activities help us in keeping our mind and body in a relaxed and refreshed state.

Moreover, hobbies also increase our productivity and improve our overall health. It protects us from the risk of dementia and also protects us from sadness in our life. It also helps in our overall development and ignites our hidden talents and passions. So it is essential to have hobbies in our lives.

Several Aspects of Watching TV as an Hobby

Watching TV is not only about fun and joy; it also introduces us to new characters and stories to analyse. Every show comes with a new set of characters and stories that tickles our brains. As a hobby, you can compare these different storylines and their characters with one another.

There are different types of programs on TV that are so crucial to enhancing our awareness about worldwide matters. TV channels also telecast different types of educational programs to improve our knowledge of history, science, economics, math, culture, and geography etc. In such programs, you get to analyse the different acting styles, writing and overall good and bad behaviours of various communities, their thoughts and cultures.

Different Genres on TV

Each TV show has different types of content or genres. These TV genres are sci-fi, dramas, adventurous shows, action, animations and reality shows. While Watching TV, it is not necessary to stick to any one genre and thus, you get to explore various other genres.

And this is the most valuable part of my hobby. Television brings together numerous elements of imagination and ideas from different genres and allows me to explore them.

Some Other Hobbies

You can have more than one hobby, as they are not restricted to any particular limit. All the things that you have an interest in can be regarded as a hobby. A person can have multiple areas of interest and have more than one activity as a hobby.

I, too, have more than one hobby. Other than watching TV, I like to listen to music. This helps me keep myself calm after doing lots of work and gives my ears and heart a soothing effect.

Besides these, I also have hobbies, such as reading comic books, painting, writing narrative stories, and maintaining a scrapbook. These activities make me happy and enhance my hidden qualities. Writing and reading boost my imagination. Along with these activities, I participate in gardening in my leisure time because I love to plant new and colourful flowers.

Moreover, I like dancing and singing. These are the activities I often do whenever I find time after completing my studies and homework. I do participate in singing and dancing competitions as well because I like to sing and dance. My teachers and parents always appreciate and encourage me to pursue my hobbies.

Conclusion

Every human being on this Earth is unique. Not only in terms of appearance but also for inherent characteristics. All the people work, think, talk, interpret, act, etc. , in countless ways. These are all the things which express me. One needs to have a good command of themselves before going to write something about their life. Life is meant to be lived avidly and with a proper visualization to do good for your fellow beings. Keeping this in mind, I have always desired to serve my people in whatever capacity I can.

Hobbies come in all shapes and sizes. Maybe you enjoy arranging flowers, maybe you try to pursue amateur carpentry from your inner-city apartment, or maybe you can’t stop yourself from assembling and painting toy soldiers. Hobbies are great in that it doesn’t really matter whether you’re good at them or not; they’re things we do for the sheer pleasure of the act.

What you may find surprising is that hobbies can help you become a better writer. Authors and poets from Haruki Murakami to Vladimir Nabokov to Sylvia Plath found their work benefited from their engagement with their hobbies (running, lepidoptery, and beekeeping respectively), and they and many others have written about their hobbies in striking, innovative, and compelling ways.

But how can you best write about your own hobbies, whether they be watchmaking or piano-playing, in your fiction and nonfiction? Well, let’s turn to a few authors who’ve already excelled at this and see what we can learn…

Find the universal appeal

If you’re writing about something niche, it’s tempting to assume you’re preaching to the choir. And, if you’re writing an article for a blog dedicated to your interest, maybe that’s a fair assumption; go ahead, use jargon and assume a level of reader knowledge. If, however, you’re writing about your hobby in a more general context, whether it be fictional or nonfictional, you can’t assume your reader is already an expert, and nor can you assume they’ll even find your hobby interesting. No, to draw them in, you’re going to have to find the vein of universal appeal.

For famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami, author of the novels The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and Norwegian Wood , writing about his hobby – long-distance running – meant examining it from an angle that emphasized the philosophical side of physical effort and exertion. In What I Talk About When I Talk About Running , he writes:

Even now, when I run along Jingu Gaien or Asakasa Gosha, sometimes I remember these other runners. I’ll round a corner and feel like I should see them coming toward me, silently running, their breath white in the morning air. And I always think this: They put up with such strenuous training, and where did their thoughts, their hopes and dreams, disappear to? – Haruki Murakami, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running

This passage is barely – only tangentially, really – about running. Instead, Murakami goes beyond the physical act of feet on the ground and finds the human heart beating beneath, thus rendering it interesting and relevant to a readership who may not be interested in or sympathetic toward running as an activity.

Of course, Murakami has two advantages here. The first is that running, like any exercise, tends to lend itself easily to grand metaphors about human endurance and, going further still, the strength of the human spirit. (David Foster Wallace would expand on this in his essay on Roger Federer, ‘ Federer Both Flesh and Not ,’ explaining that ‘high-level sports are a prime venue for the expression of human beauty. The relationship is roughly that of courage to war.’) It’s true that some hobbies are easier to make broadly appealing than others; Hemingway frames fishing as a noble battle of man versus nature in The Old Man and the Sea , while watchmaking has a decorated history of religious and ontological allusions to fall back on. Finding the broad appeal of something like crocheting or stamp collecting, on the other hand, may be more challenging.

The second advantage Murakami has is that, well, he’s Haruki Murakami. He can rely on a readership who’ll pick up What I Talk About When I Talk About Running not because they’re interested in running, but because they’ve read his fiction and want to absorb some of his wisdom. In other words, they’re interested in fiction and literature, not running.

Murakami exploits this expertly (and perhaps even cynically) by including a chapter entitled ‘Most of What I Know About Writing Fiction I Learned By Running Every Day.’ In this way, he makes running suddenly appealing to those who’re only reading the book in the first place because they’re interested in writing, reading, and fiction – running suddenly becomes a kind of key to broader literary understanding. The truth is more pedestrian, of course; Murakami merely draws parallels between the endurance and discipline needed to run and the endurance and discipline needed to write:

Most of what I know about writing I’ve learned through running every day. These are practical, physical lessons. How much can I push myself? How much rest is appropriate and how much is too much? How far can I take something and still keep it decent and consistent? – Haruki Murakami, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running

One trick to writing effectively about hobbies, then, is to only tangentially write about hobbies in the first place. Instead, tie the hobby you’re writing about to broader human, natural, and cosmic questions, and write as if it is the key to understanding – or, better, experiencing – these most essential and elemental of human experiences.

Be esoteric

On the other end of the spectrum to broad appeal, we have esotericism. Esotericism implies secret knowledge – a trove of insights and know-how only available to the chosen few. This may seem contradictory, but it’s important to represent both in your writing, whether it’s fiction or nonfiction.

Being esoteric helps present your hobby’s followers as a group with its own secrets, perceptions, and view of the world, which in turn presents you as a vaguely romantic figure and, more importantly, your hobby as something valuable, perception-expanding, and wholesome. We see Jonathan Franzen lean into this in his piece on his love of birdwatching:

Things with feathers can be found in every corner of every ocean and in land habitats so bleak that they’re habitats for nothing else. Grey gulls raise their chicks in Chile’s Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth. Emperor penguins incubate their eggs in Antarctica in winter. Goshawks nest in the Berlin cemetery where Marlene Dietrich is buried, sparrows in Manhattan traffic lights, swifts in sea caves, vultures on Himalayan cliffs, chaffinches in Chernobyl. The only forms of life more widely distributed than birds are microscopic. – Jonathan Franzen, ‘ The Radical Otherness of Birds ,’ The Guardian

Of course, Franzen’s narrowness here isn’t compelling merely for its romance; it’s engaging too because of his expertise. By sharing these niche facts, Franzen paints himself as an authority with lessons worth listening to; it’s Aristotle’s ‘Ethos,’ a mode of persuasion that relies on presenting the speaker (or writer in this case) as a reliable, authoritative, and trustworthy source.

There’s also something more abstract and difficult to quantify about esoteric facts that is immensely charming. It has to do, I think, with their uselessness; yes, there are, I suppose, scientific and ecological reasons for knowing which bird species roost in which inhospitable environment, just as there’re historical reasons for being able to accurately date a particular stamp and tactical reasons for poring over tabletop battleplans, but, in day-to-day life, these facts will never prove useful. Like hobbies themselves, they’re totally impractical, totally separate from the concepts of success and failure, and are products of sheer, genuine pleasure.

In our modernity of marketable skills, results-oriented business, and education-for-the-sake-of-employment, there’s something delightfully quaint about, say, being able to craft cranes from folded paper or name all the constellations. Hobbies are inherently joyous, and by leaning into that in your writing, your reader will experience that joy vicariously.

Of course, remember that the intent should always be to induct your reader into your esoteric discipline, not just to lord your superior knowledge over them. Give your reader the gift of hidden knowledge, but don’t position yourself as lecturer .

Invite them along

The great thing about writing about one of your own hobbies is that it’s hard not to come across as passionate. That energy will enliven your prose but, if you let it, it can also lead you down a rabbit hole of tangents, anecdotes , and jargon-littered asides. Yes, detail is good; esoteric knowledge is good; but easy there, zoom out a little!

This is where universal appeal comes in. By asking yourself what about your hobby appealed to you in the first place, you can identify what’s likely to appeal to those of your readers who aren’t yet converted. Maybe you won’t, when writing about fishing, opt for Hemingway’s man vs. nature conflation; maybe instead you’ll think of getting away from it all, returning to nature, and the slow dissipation of your worries in the face of a great blue lake. Maybe you’ll muse a little about how this ritual of rural life offers a psychological balm to the pressures of city living, and just like that you’ve touched upon themes far broader than just catching fish.

Approaching your subject from the right angle can absolutely transform a reader’s relationship with a hobby they’ve never tried. By focusing on the companionship of fishing and the bizarre musings their sedate hobby allows, comedians Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse have prompted a legitimate renaissance in their English readership’s interest in fishing. The secret, of course, is that it’s not really about the fishing at all – that’s just the excuse for joining in with two people who are having a genuinely amazing time.

For that, in the end, is the trick to writing about your hobby in a compelling, non-technical manner. Hobbies don’t make logical sense, and they can rarely be made attractive through that lens. Bombarding the reader with technical details may show your own expertise, it may even educate them, but it will rarely enchant them. Yes, there are practical benefits to getting into X, but it’s the experience that people want to read about. In discussing hobbies, you’ve got to muse on this: on the appeal, sure, but also on the weird human quirk that makes us pursue hobbies in the first place. It’s here that the gold vein lies.

How to Write About Your Hobbies and Interests

Last Updated: March 15, 2024 Fact Checked

The interests and hobbies section of a resume or college application provides a good opportunity to showcase your personality. A well-executed one can even compensate for a lack in experience or education. Although you might think that all resumes are alike, you should always gear your document toward the specific audience who will be reading it, taking into consideration what they want from you as an applicant. This article will discuss how to write about your hobbies and interests for the two audiences for a resume: a college admissions committee and a potential employer.

how to write an essay on hobby

Writing for a College Admissions Committee

Step 1 Format your application resume by priority.

  • College admissions committees are far more interested in your grades, work experience, skills and awards than they are in your hobbies and interests.
  • As such, the hobbies and interests section of your resume should be presented toward the end of your resume. End with it, don’t lead with it.
  • Prioritize individual activities as well. You can either list your activities chronologically, as you probably did in the “Work Experience” section, or from most to least impressive.
  • Always remember that resumes are “top-down” documents, meaning you should lead with what you most want the reader to know about you. [2] X Research source

Step 2 Use appropriate terminology.

  • Do not simply list all of your activities with commas. This suggests that you have nothing to say about what you did other than the fact that you did it. Break each activity into its own bullet point.
  • Decide whether you will write in full sentences or short phrases. A resume should not be overly long — ideally, it should fit onto a single page. If you find that your resume has too much length, use phrases rather than full sentences.
  • For example: “Tennis: state champions, 2013, 2014; co-captained varsity team, 2012-14; member of varsity team, 2010-14.
  • If your resume is not long enough and you need to develop length, you can write that same information out in full sentences: “Tennis: As a member of the varsity team from 2010 to 2014, I helped my team win the state championship in both 2013 and 2014. As co-captain from 2012 to 2014, I provided leadership both on and off the court, leading team workouts during the off-season and keeping teammates accountable to one another.”

Step 4 Demonstrate well-roundedness.

  • The activities section of your resume is the place to demonstrate that you don’t have a one-track mind. You have a variety of interests that can be developed over your four years in college.
  • If possible, present an array of activities that demonstrate an engaged, curious mind: athletics, volunteerism, academic teams, interest in both the humanities (speech team) and STEM areas (Mathletes), etc.
  • The more well-rounded you seem, the more appealing you will be to a committee that is trying to assess how you will develop over the next four years.

Step 5 Set yourself apart from the pack.

  • Demonstrate a high level of interest in at least one of your activities. If you were a team captain, elected official or an otherwise engaged member of a group, you need to highlight that as well as possible.
  • Describe the leadership qualities you may have developed through this activity: “As Key Club president, I chaired weekly meetings, delegated club responsibilities into committees, expanded our presence by recruited peers into volunteerism and oversaw member training before sending volunteers out into the community.”
  • Explain what peripheral qualities you developed: “Over my four years in the Key Club, I developed an abiding dedication to underserved populations in local communities.”

Step 6 Choose language carefully to dress up your activities.

  • Use the active voice throughout every document you submit in the application process. [6] X Research source The passive voice suggests that you passively received skills or qualities from your life experiences, whereas the active voice demonstrates your engagement: you earned those skills.
  • Note the difference between “Being on the football team taught me the importance of being a team player” and “I strengthened the team’s resolve and success by stressing to individual players the importance of group cohesion to the achievement of our goals.” Take credit wherever possible, even if you weren’t in leadership positions.
  • Even if you don’t think you got a lot out of an activity, think about what skills and qualities you could have developed. For example —you might have been an awful cheerleader, but you can still say “I devoted myself to grueling practices daily throughout the season and developed an effective time-management system, through which I balanced schoolwork and cheering while dedicating myself fully to both.”
  • Even if you’re not going to make the collegiate cheer squad, you’ve still demonstrated that you can manage your time — something you learned from cheerleading.

Writing for a Potential Employer

Step 1 Decide whether or not a “Hobbies and Interests” section is appropriate for this job.

  • Research the corporate culture of the company you’re applying to. Some companies encourage employees to bring their interests into the creative workplace, for example, Google explicitly cultivates an “open culture” workplace where hobbies are welcomed. A hobbies section would be very appropriate for an application in the tech industry with a company like Google.
  • However, if you’re applying for a position at an accounting firm, the corporate culture may not be as welcoming of your hobbies. Leave them off that resume.

Step 2 Be brief.

  • Choose interests that not only mean a lot to you, but also demonstrate the kind of person you are.
  • For example, “reading” is a fairly generic activity that doesn’t reveal that much about you. However, running marathons suggests that you possess a high level of dedication and that you can overcome obstacles.
  • "Listening to music" doesn't tell your employee anything about you, but "I have practiced classical piano for 17 years," tells them a lot.
  • "Volunteering," tells the employer something about you, but it's not as detailed as it could be. Say, instead, that you've volunteered weekly at the same soup kitchen for 3 years, or that you bring your expertise from your state champion high school football team to bear when volunteering as a coach for community football league.
  • Generally, hobbies that show leadership skills, personal initiative, dedication, or drive are good boosters for your resume.

Step 4 Connect your interests to the job.

Community Q&A

Community Answer

  • Be careful about listing hobbies and interests indicative of thrill-seeking and risk-taking behaviors, as these qualities may work against you with certain employers. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Avoid sounding overly committed to your hobbies and interests, as this could indicate to potential employers that your personal interests may come before your career. For example, "I play chess every chance I get, as it is my goal to travel the country as a full-time competitor," could be geared for resume writing by rewording it as, "I enjoy the chess club because it stimulates my creative problem-solving skills and opens my mind to new ways of thinking outside the box." To write about your hobbies and interests for college admissions, frame them as something you dedicate your time towards rather than just something you have fun with. For example, on your college application, list them under the title “Extracurricular Activities” since this is more professional than “Hobbies” or “Interests” Choose to list the hobbies you’ve spent the most time on to show your dedication, whether that’s the tennis team, girl scouts, or piano. When you write about your hobbies, use an active voice and describe how you contributed to it. For example, you could write “I strengthened the team’s resolve and success by stressing to individual players the importance of group cohesion to the achievement of our goals. Alternatively, you could say, “I devoted myself to grueling practices daily throughout the season and developed effective time-management by balancing schoolwork and cheering.” To learn how to write about your hobbies and interests on a resume, read on! Dancing is not just a hobby; it is a passion that ignites my soul and fills my life with joy, expression, and creativity. From a young age, I have been drawn to the art of dance, finding solace and freedom in the movement of my body to the rhythm of music. In this essay, I will delve into the profound impact that dancing has had on my life, exploring its physical, emotional, and mental benefits, as well as the ways in which it has shaped my identity and provided me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

To begin with, dancing is a form of physical exercise that not only keeps me fit and healthy but also allows me to express myself through movement. The sheer act of dancing engages various muscle groups, improves flexibility, coordination, and balance, and enhances cardiovascular health. Whether I am practicing ballet, hip-hop, salsa, or contemporary dance styles, each session challenges my body in unique ways, pushing me to strive for greater strength and agility. Moreover, the endorphins released during dance sessions elevate my mood and reduce stress levels, leaving me feeling energized and rejuvenated.

Beyond its physical benefits, dancing serves as a powerful emotional outlet that enables me to channel my feelings and emotions into artistic expression. Through dance, I can convey a range of emotions – from joy and excitement to sadness and longing – without uttering a single word. The music becomes my language, the movements my vocabulary, and the stage my canvas on which I paint stories of love, loss, triumph, and resilience. In moments of uncertainty or turmoil, dancing provides me with a safe space to release pent-up emotions, find catharsis, and regain a sense of inner peace.

Furthermore, dancing nurtures my mental well-being by stimulating creativity, enhancing cognitive function, and fostering mindfulness. As I learn new choreographies, experiment with different dance styles, and collaborate with fellow dancers, my brain is constantly challenged to memorize sequences, coordinate movements, and interpret musical cues. This mental stimulation not only sharpens my focus and concentration but also boosts my memory retention and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the rhythmic patterns of dance music help me enter a state of flow where I am fully present in the moment, free from distractions or worries.

In addition to its physical, emotional, and mental benefits, dancing has played a pivotal role in shaping my identity and providing me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Through years of dedicated practice and performance experiences, I have honed my skills as a dancer, developed my own unique style and artistic voice, and built lasting relationships within the dance community. Each time I step onto the stage or into the studio, I am reminded of the passion that drives me to pursue excellence in this art form. Dancing has not only enriched my life but also given me a sense of belonging and purpose that transcends words.

In conclusion, dancing is more than just a hobby for me; it is a way of life that brings me immense joy, fulfillment, and self-discovery. Through its physical benefits of exercise and fitness; emotional outlet for expression; mental stimulation for creativity; and identity-shaping role in providing purpose and fulfillment; dancing has become an integral part of who I am. As I continue to immerse myself in this art form with dedication and passion, I look forward to the endless possibilities for growth, learning, and self-expression that dance offers.

Engaging in sports is not merely a pastime for me; it is a passion that fuels my spirit, challenges my limits, and enriches my life in countless ways. From the adrenaline rush of competition to the camaraderie of teamwork, sports have been an integral part of my journey towards personal growth, physical fitness, and mental resilience. In this essay, I will delve into the profound impact that sports have had on my life, exploring their physical, emotional, and social benefits, as well as the ways in which they have shaped my character and instilled in me a sense of discipline and determination.

To begin with, participating in sports is a gateway to physical well-being and overall health. Whether I am running on the track, shooting hoops on the basketball court, or diving into the pool for a swim, each sport challenges my body in unique ways, promoting cardiovascular fitness, strength, agility, and endurance. The regular practice and training required in sports not only help me stay in shape but also instill healthy habits such as proper nutrition, hydration, and rest. Moreover, the endorphins released during physical activity elevate my mood, reduce stress levels, and boost my energy levels, leaving me feeling refreshed and invigorated.

Beyond its physical benefits, sports serve as a powerful emotional outlet that allows me to channel my emotions in a constructive manner. The highs of victory and the lows of defeat experienced in competitive sports teach me valuable lessons in resilience, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Through wins and losses alike, I learn to celebrate success with humility and grace and to face setbacks with courage and determination. The emotional rollercoaster of sports not only strengthens my mental fortitude but also fosters a sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence that transcends the boundaries of the playing field.

Furthermore, engaging in sports nurtures my social well-being by fostering connections with teammates, coaches, and fellow athletes. The bonds forged through shared experiences on the field or court create a sense of belonging and camaraderie that extends beyond the game itself. Whether we are strategizing plays together, cheering each other on during matches, or celebrating victories as a team, the sense of unity and support within a sports community is unparalleled. These relationships not only provide me with a support system during challenging times but also offer opportunities for personal growth through collaboration, communication, and teamwork.

In addition to its physical, emotional, and social benefits, sports have played a pivotal role in shaping my character and instilling in me values such as discipline, determination, and resilience. The dedication required to excel in sports demands consistent practice, hard work, and sacrifice – qualities that translate into other areas of life such as academics or career pursuits. Through the ups and downs of training regimens, injuries, setbacks, and comebacks, I have learned to push past my limits, set ambitious goals for myself, and persevere in the face of adversity. Sports have taught me that success is not just about winning medals or trophies but about personal growth, self-improvement, and the journey towards becoming the best version of myself.

In conclusion, sports are more than just a hobby for me; they are a way of life that embodies passion, perseverance, and personal growth. Essay on My Hobby in 250 Words: Karate (200 – 250 Words)

A hobby is anything we do regularly, apart from our main activities to make ourselves happy. I have been learning karate as a hobby since class 3. My hobby keeps me fit and in the best of health and mind. Our fitness teacher once told us the story of Bruce Lee. The story inspired me so much that I enrolled in karate class and started practising regularly.

In connection with karate, I have to take aerobics and other exercises everyday. In the coaching session, our teacher teaches us various kinds of attack and defence techniques. We have to wear the karate outfit during our practice session. To inspire myself, I also read books about many great karatekas (practitioners of karate).

The toughest problem I face in connection with rearing my hobby is managing time. The only span of time that I get to practise karate is immediately after school hours. Though I feel exhausted at that hour, yet my love for the martial art makes me go for practice. At the time of examination I get very little time to pursue my hobby.

My parents have always supported my hobby. My father says that karate can be very helpful during an emergency. This makes me feel proud of my hobby.

I have a very ambitious plan about my hobby. I want to achieve the highest rank in karate, that is, ‘the black belt’ level. I know how difficult it is, yet I want to try my best for it.

My Special Hobby Essay: Trekking (250- 300 Words)

I follow trekking as a hobby. Trekking means walking for a long span of time, may be a week or even several weeks, in natural surroundings that could typically be a forest, a hill side or a long trail by the side of a waterbody. During a trek, self-sufficiency is maintained as far as possible and the trekkers try to enjoy and explore the path.

When I was ten, I went on a hiking venture with my dad’s group. The hiking journey excited me a lot. Then on, I was so interested in hiking that I would accompany any nearby group which went on such explorations. Hiking is a shortened format of trekking. It gradually changed into trekking hobby when I joined a trekking group in school.

Now, I am a proud member of a trekking group, known as YOUNG UNDAUNTED in our school. We go on trekking tours every six months or so. We also have won trophies in this regard. The walls of my house are full with breathtaking trekking snaps I have captured during my treks.

I like trekking because it keeps me physically fit. The long walks provide lower abdomen exercise and being cautious in wild surroundings, makes one smart and prompt. Besides, trekking gives me a sufficient dose of relaxation. When I return from a trekking tour, I feel fresh and energetic.

I idolize our sports teacher who is my trekking hero. He has ventured in many trekking expeditions in the Himalayan valleys. He has taught us many trekking skills. With his advice, I recently bought two pairs of trekking shoes.

I want to continue with my trekking hobby as long as possible. Trekking provides me thrill, pleasure, and experience. It makes life happier. When I go back to normal life after a trekking tour, I can concentrate better on my studies.

My favourite hobby is swimming. I just love swimming and do it whenever find suitable leisure time. As we know, hobby is a task that we do apart from our main occupation for the sheer love of it. Swimming is such an activity for me.

Essay on My Favourite Hobby: Swimming (500- 600 Words, With Sub-headings)

Introduction.

Why do I pursue Swimming?

Swimming is a very good exercise. It has helped me develop a good overall physique. Specially, it helps build up broad shoulders and a strong chest. Swimming also helps improve lung function.

Swimming plays an important part in my life. It gives me pleasure and keeps me in the best of health and mind. Even when I come back from exhaustive school hours, I take a dip in the pool and swim for at least an hour. It relaxes me immediately. I feel dejected when I do not get a chance to swim due to other engagements.

How do I Upgrade?

To be able to become a good swimmer, I take exercises that help me to perform well. The trainer in charge of the pool has taught us some tricks that help us swim faster. I know and practise freestyle swimming, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and sidestroke.

Where do I Get My Inspiration From?

Recently I joined a swimmers’ club where I had an opportunity to learn new tricks from champion swimmers. It gave me immense pleasure.

I get my inspiration from the great Indian swimmer Mihir Sen who crossed the English Channel from Dover to Calais in 1958. I have also read the stories of the great Olympic gold medalists like Mark Spitz and Michael Phelps.

Many of my friends have hobbies like drawing, trekking, dancing, cooking etc. I am also somewhat interested in some of them. However, there is nothing like the spontaneous attraction I feel about swimming. I also think that my hobby is a bit uncommon and it makes me proud.

Kudos and Awards I have Won in Swimming

During the last summer games in our school, I won silver medal in junior freestyle competition and got kudos from my parents, teachers and friends.

I also derived an unexpected benefit from my hobby. My school recently organized a campaign called ‘Friend Mentors’. Therein, I got an opportunity to train a batch of seven primary school students. I taught them the basics of freestyle, butterfly and backstroke swimming. At the end of the camp, I was awarded Rs 2000/- from the school side.

What are the Other Benefits of Swimming as a Hobby?

Swimming teaches me benefits of healthy competition. I and my friend Raghu compete with each other in the pool. Raghu is also a very good swimmer, specially at backstroke. He thinks I am good at freestyle. I and Raghav sometimes discuss our merits and drawbacks with respect to swimming.

Swimming is a great soother. It is a lot of fun on Sundays and other holidays. A lot of people happen to come to the pool on such days. On these occasions I enjoy watching kids learn the tricks of the trade. I offer my advice when some of them need it.

Sometimes my parents feel worried about my hobby and forbid me to venture into deeper waters. Even though, my swimming mentor advises never to be afraid but at the same time also opines that caution is the key while swimming.

I remember his words that we must take challenges which seem to be under our control only and not venture into swimming too far in open water bodies like rivers, sea etc.

Overall, swimming is a sports that keeps me in shape and provides good and positive vibes. I love pursuing it as a hobby.

Essay on My Hobby – Cooking (1000 Words, With Sub-headings)

As you read this essay, try to understand which questions have been answered. Alongside, observe how the writer has maintained the transition of of facts smoothly flowing.

My Hobby: Cooking

A regular act away from our main occupation that makes us happy, is called a hobby. Sometimes we start rearing a hobby naturally and some hobbies cling to us when we get inspired by someone following the hobby. In either case, there is an intrinsic love for that particular kind of activity.

My favourite pastime when I am not studying or playing is cooking. I proudly say, cooking is my hobby. It helps me to become a better person, enhances my talent and above all, soothes my mind. I will go as far as to say a corner of me remains empty the day I do not cook anything.

Moving down the memory lane, I can recollect that once when mom was busy, she asked me to prepare tea for a guest who had dropped in unexpectedly. I was only 10 years old then and everyone was surprised by the quality of tea I made. This was the start of my cooking journey.

Why Do I Pursue Cooking as a Hobby?

The main reason for following cooking as a hobby is my natural inclination for this. When I see relatives and friends enjoying the taste of the dishes I have prepared, I feel extremely delighted. I observe my mom’s actions closely while she is cooking. I think my mom is the greatest cook in the world. I have learnt a lot from her. I have corrected my basics of cooking a thousand times in her company and this has made me a seasoned cook.

I Keep Upgrading

When our basics are correct, we get space to experiment. Though I know how to cook many a dish, I keep learning new recipes everyday. Many online forums and platforms like YouTube help me a lot with upgrading my culinary talent. Besides, I also watch cooking based programs like ‘MasterChef India’ on TV to diversify my cooking acumen.

Sometime back, I read a book ‘Cakes and Bakes’ by master Indian chef Sanjeev Kapoor. He has shared many interesting baking tips to prepare cakes. I realized that cakes and pastries are very important snacks for occasions like birthday parties. So, I thought of honing my baking skills and selected the book. It has widened my cooking views.

I know how to cook traditional north India dishes since childhood. Over time, I have also added other recipes like Dosai, Idli, sambhar, pasta, chowmin etc. to my cooking skills. Currently, I am trying my hand at preparing burgers. I am also learning to prepare mango and lemon pickle.

Moreover, whenever we travel to a different place, I try to learn cooking new dishes particular to that place. For example, we happened to visit Gujarat last year in connection with a wedding. There I learnt cooking two Gujarati dishes – Khandvi and Undhiyu.

Hobby is Related to Personality Development

Cooking has changed me as a person too. Owing to regular cooking, my patience has increased, observation has grown deeper, and innovative ideas keep hovering in my mind. I like to experiment a lot with my recipes. However, I admit that not all my experiments are successful.

Managing Time to Pursue Hobby

Now, I am in class ten and owing to busy study schedules, I do not get enough time to cook my favourite dishes. Still I make it a point to do so once in 2-3 days. I love cooking so much that I cannot keep myself away from it for a long time. To manage time, I do all the necessary chores beforehand and save time for cooking in the evening.

Awards, Kudos, Social Network

Recently I participated in a cooking contest held in my colony. I won the first prize for my recipe called ‘Paneer Pasanda’. It is a mouth watering dish that consists of fried Paneer pieces cooked in thick, spicy gravy. I served it after garnishing with green coriander leaves. Judges found my recipe the best one and when they announced the result, my joy knew no bounds.

Participating in cooking contests and organizing stalls in school functions has won me many friends. Some of them communicate with me regularly. This, on one side has made my social circle wider and on the other, it enables us interact regularly and upgrade our cooking skills.

Once in our school, a dieticians’ campaign was organized. In the camp, some dieticians advised us on the topic of healthy cooking. The dieticians told us why cooking should consume lesser amount of oil, spices and colors. Overall, it was a gripping session, more so for students like me.

Implications of Hobby on Career

Due to my interest in cooking, I have decided to take ‘Home Science’ as a subject in my higher classes. Mom seems to be worried because of this as she thinks ‘Home Science’ as a subject, will hinder my career. Though I am not of the same view, I told mom that we would take the opinion of career counsellors at the right time.

Food being the basic need of mankind and also due to growing number of parties and celebrations in our society, cooking is one skill likely to be in great demand in future. Though I follow cooking as a refreshing and relaxing occupation only, yet it may well become an occupation for which I will be known in social circles. So my attitude towards cooking has never been casual.

I have heard that some parents do not allow their kids to pursue their hobbies. However, they must understand that hobbies like cooking, gardening, and dancing give us a good leisure time away from our regular activities. Focusing hard in studies may make the studies monotonous.

Last but not the least should be a mention of the precautions which I take while cooking. I have to be careful right from lighting the gas and microwave ovens properly to not overusing spices, colours, oil, ghee, butter, and chilly-powder. besides, I hate left over food and so try to cook my recipes in the required quantity only.

I think everyone must pursue a hobby. Hobbies give us a break from our routine activities which may otherwise become monotonous. The refreshing feeling which our hobbies provide, makes us go back to our main occupation in a stronger, composed, and wholesome manner.

Writing an essay about your hobby can be an enlightening experience, not just for you but also for your readers. However, crafting an essay that is both engaging and informative is a skill in itself. In this article, we’ll explore simple yet effective tips to help you write an essay about your hobby that captivates your audience.

Focus on Your Connection

how to write an essay on hobby

Your hobby is a part of your identity. Start by reflecting on why you chose this hobby and what it means. Did it start as a childhood interest, or did you stumble upon it later in life? Share the story of your first encounter with your hobby. This personal angle will give your essay an emotional depth that resonates with readers.

For instance, if your hobby is photography, talk about the moment you first held a camera and how you felt seeing the world through a different lens. If you do not know how to describe your hobby, you can pay someone to do research paper or edit your essay. They will provide any suggestions to improve your essay. Consider the option to pay for research paper services if you also do not have enough time.

Describe the Journey, Not Just the Hobby

The evolution of your skills and understanding is crucial to your hobby’s story. Describe how you started, the challenges you faced, and how you overcame them. This journey often reflects personal growth and can be inspiring to your readers. If your hobby is baking, narrate your first baking experience, the mishaps, the learning curve, and the eventual triumph of baking your first perfect cake.

Include Anecdotes and Experiences

Anecdotes make your essay more relatable and engaging. Share specific incidents or experiences related to your hobby that left a lasting impression on you. It could be a conversation with a fellow hobbyist that changed your perspective or an event where you showcased your work. These little stories add color and depth to your narrative, making it more vivid and memorable.

Highlight the Impact of Your Hobby

Discuss how your hobby has impacted your life. Has it changed your perspective, helped you develop new skills, or brought you closer to a community? For instance, gardening taught you patience and deepened your appreciation for nature. These insights show the broader significance of your hobby, making your essay more meaningful.

Connect with Broader Themes

Relate your hobby to larger themes or issues. This could be the therapeutic effects of engaging in creative hobbies, the environmental impact of sustainable gardening, or the cultural significance of traditional cooking. Connecting your hobby to these broader themes can elevate your essay from a personal narrative to a commentary on larger societal or cultural aspects.

Conclude with Reflections and Future Aspirations

Conclude by reflecting on what your hobby has taught you, how you see it evolving, and tips for students to pursue your hobby . Do you aspire to take it to a professional level, or does it serve as a cherished escape from the daily grind? This reflection closes your essay and opens a window into your future aspirations related to your hobby.

Writing an engaging essay about your hobby requires a blend of personal storytelling, vivid anecdotes, and broader insights. By focusing on these aspects, you can craft an essay that shares your passion and resonates deeply with your readers. Remember, the key to a captivating essay lies in connecting your personal story to universal themes, making it relatable and inspiring for everyone who reads it.

Simple Tips for Writing an Engaging Essay

  • Start with a Strong Introduction : Your introduction should hook the reader. Begin with an intriguing fact, a question, or a personal anecdote related to your hobby.
  • Use Descriptive Language : Paint a picture with your words. Describe your hobby in detail, from the colors and textures in painting to the rhythm and coordination in dance.
  • Organize Your Thoughts : Structure your essay with clear headings and coherent paragraphs. This makes your essay easy to follow and enjoyable to read.
  • Show, Don’t Just Tell: Use examples and experiences to illustrate your points. Showing how your hobby affects you and others makes your essay more compelling.
  • Keep it Simple and Clear : Avoid jargon and overly complex language. Your goal is to communicate your passion and story, not to confuse your readers.
  • End with a Memorable Conclusion : Your conclusion should tie together your main points and give the reader something to consider. It could be a reflective thought, future aspiration, or question encouraging further thought.
  • Edit and Revise : Always review your work. Look for grammatical errors, check for flow, and ensure that your essay effectively conveys your passion for your hobby.

So, unleash your hobby story and let the world see the unique lens through which you view your passion.

Travelling is a journey of self-discovery. It pushes us out of our comfort zones, challenging our adaptability and resilience. Through my travels, I’ve learned to navigate unfamiliar environments, communicate despite language barriers, and make decisions in unpredictable situations. These experiences have shaped my character, enhancing my confidence and self-reliance.

Preserving the Environment

As a traveller, I’ve become more conscious of my environmental footprint. I strive to travel sustainably, appreciating and respecting the natural beauty of the places I visit while minimizing my impact. This commitment to environmental stewardship is a crucial aspect of my hobby.

In conclusion, my hobby of travelling is a multifaceted experience that provides education, fosters relationships, encourages personal growth, and promotes environmental consciousness. It is more than just a pastime; it is a way of life that continually enriches my understanding of the world. As a college student, I believe that travelling provides invaluable lessons that extend far beyond the confines of a classroom, making it a hobby well worth pursuing.

Do you have a story to tell or a message you want to share? Maybe you’ve always wanted to write a book but don’t know where to start. Well, you’re in luck! This blog post will give you ten tips to help you start writing as a hobby. Writing can be a great way to express yourself and connect with others, and it can be a lot of fun! So what are you waiting for? Start writing today!

How do I start writing as a hobby if I’ve never done it before?

Starting a writing hobby can seem daunting if you’ve never written before. However, it’s quite easy to get started – all you need is a pen and paper (or a laptop, if you prefer typing). Gone are those times when you were a frequent user of creative writing services like CustomWritings . From now on, you’re among those students who can help themselves! It just needs a little time and effort.

First, figure out what you want to write about. What are your interests? What do you want to share with the world? It could be anything from your favorite childhood memories to your thoughts on current affairs.

Once you’ve chosen a topic , the next step is to put your thoughts down on paper (or screen). Don’t worry too much about grammar or punctuation at this stage – write down whatever comes into your head.

Once you’ve got some material written, you can start to edit and polish it. This is the fun part, where you get to be creative and make your piece of writing your own.

There are no rules for writing, so feel free to experiment with different styles and formats. You might even want to try writing in a completely different genre from what you normally read.

Another great way to improve your writing is to read often. When you read, please consider the author’s style and how they use words to tell their story . This will help you when you start writing your own stories. Reading also helps expand your vocabulary, making your writing more interesting.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself and have fun! Writing should be an enjoyable experience, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just take it one step at a time and see where your writing takes you.

What are the benefits of writing as a hobby?

There are many benefits to writing as a hobby, including:

  • It’s a great way to express yourself.
  • Writing can help you work through problems you’re having in your life.
  • It’s a fun and creative way to avoid boredom.
  • Many people find writing therapeutic and calming.
  • Writing can also be a great way to connect with others who share your interests.
  • You can earn money from writing if you pursue it as a career.

Whatever your reason for wanting to start writing, there are many benefits to this hobby. So go ahead and give it a try! You might find that you enjoy it more than you thought.

What should I write about if I’m not sure where to start?

how to write an essay on hobby

It can be challenging to know where to begin if you’re starting as a writer. Should you focus on fiction or non-fiction? Should you write short stories or essays?

The good news is, there’s no single “right” answer to these questions, and the most important thing is to start writing and to keep at it. With that said, there are a few things that first-time writers might want to keep in mind.

If you’re not sure what to write about, a great place to start is through journaling. This can be a great way to get your thoughts down on paper and practice your writing skills. Write about your day-to-day experiences, thoughts and feelings, and anything else.

As you create journal entries regularly, you’ll start to develop your unique voice and style. You can try writing other things, such as essays, short stories, or even poems. The important thing is to keep writing and see where it takes you!

If you’re unsure what topic to pick, why not try writing about your hobbies or interests? For example, you could write a blog post about your favorite recipes if you like baking. Or if you’re interested in fashion, you could write an article about the latest trends.

Another option is to write about something that’s happening in your life. This could be anything from a new job to a recent holiday. Writing about your experiences can be a great way to connect with others and share your thoughts and feelings.

If you’re still struggling to develop ideas, try doing some free writing. This is where you write down whatever comes into your head without stopping to edit or worry about grammar. This can be a great way to get your creative juices flowing and help you develop ideas for your next piece of writing.

Begin writing short stories if you’re looking for a creative outlet. Consider a topic or genre that appeals to you, and begin developing story ideas. Once you have a few ideas, start fleshing out the details and see where the story takes you. There’s no right or wrong way to approach writing, so go with what feels natural. The most important thing is enjoying the process and letting your creativity flow.

How can I make my writing more exciting and engaging for others to read?

This is a great question and one that all writers should ask themselves. No matter what your writing goals are-whether you want to write for fun or profit-making, your work being more enjoyable is critical to engaging readers.

Here are a few tips to make your writing more interesting:

  • Use strong verbs. Verbs are the action words in a sentence, and strong, precise verbs can liven up your writing. For example, instead of saying, “I walked to the store,” you could say, “I trudged to the store.”
  • Choose specific nouns. Nouns are a sentence’s people, places, things, or ideas. Using more particular nouns can help your writing feel more vivid and exciting. For example, instead of “I went to the store,” you could say, “I went to Walmart.”
  • Add sensory details. When you’re writing, try to include as many senses as possible. This will make your writing more immersive and interesting for readers. For example, instead of “The flowers were pretty,” you could say, “The flowers were beautiful and fragrant.”
  • Join a writing group: There are writing groups for writers, from novelists to poets to non-fiction writers. Joining a writing group can help you find feedback and support during the writing process.
  • Take a writing class: If you’re looking for more structure, taking a writing class can be a great way to improve your skills. Many community colleges offer writing classes, as well as online courses.
  • Set a goal: Having a goal in mind, whether writing a certain number of words per day or finishing the first draft by a specific date, helps you stay motivated and on track.
  • Find your voice: Try to find your unique voice as you write. This will make your writing more memorable and enjoyable for readers.
  • Experiment: Don’t be afraid to experiment with your writing. Try new things and see what works for you.
  • Have fun: Writing should be enjoyable, so balance challenging yourself and having fun. If you’re not enjoying the process, it’ll be reflected in your work.

These are just a few tips to help you start writing as a hobby. Don’t be afraid to explore and experiment. That’s part of the fun! And, most importantly, write because you enjoy it. If you’re having fun, your readers will, too.

10 Tips To Get Started With Writing as a Hobby

Writing as hobbies is one way to start writing; you can do it at home or outdoors on the computer. It’s very creative and fun! Engaging in a hobby helps improve your productivity level. You can even become good at writing by picking up a few freelance writing jobs.

To help you get started with full motivation and passion, we’ve listed below the top 10 tips to begin writing as a hobby!

1 – Start A Blog

The blog is a simple yet powerful tool to share your writing with others, and it also acts as a guide on how to write well and at the same time be creative. A proper blog will help you promote your piece and provide content that can be used as material for a book. All blogs are listed on the internet, and so they become easy sources of promotion once books or essays get published.

2 – Select The Right Medium

Everything You Need to Know About How To Be A Great Writer. Find out what makes great writing unbuyable! Use Twitter; Facebook; Google+ ; Pinterest. Ask and Receive

Find out how to manage your writer’s block; recognize when you don’t know what you’re writing about or describing, learn the writing tips that make a good book readable, use proper word spacing and punctuation while reading so as not to confuse readers. Many writers go through many drafts before they can publish their work successfully!

3 – Choose A Comfortable Space to Write

A computer allows you to pick up and write wherever you are! It doesn’t matter. You need a comfortable space, meaning somewhere quiet, so that reading or thinking can go on in your mind without being disturbed any time of the day/night. Even someone as busy as me finds one hour’s free time will help with initial planning and even terminology writing if it is done at night while drifting off into sleep; maybe another reason you may develop the habit of writing at night before going to sleep.

4 – Start From Short Stories or Poems

Try writing poetry first or even quotes. These are usually written down in some prose second, which is one reason you should write down your words the night before without fail, putting at least a few sentences/words as clues to quote ideas based on something with an ethereal feeling (the abstract) while also using previous literary references that can be continued later. Then, start composing a narrative and going back to previous lines, then create a consistent pace through the story where all details are equally important.

5 – Learn Vocabulary Daily

This is a very important element in creative writing where word usage and depiction of things around you are key to forming new concepts into readers’ minds from words they’ve experienced through reading.

Vocabulary building is the key to success in writing. Language can be understood by only a few people, while others don’t even know it exists. A large vocabulary will always help you feel confident with your language skills and expression ability because of its greater use as you write more creatively and express yourself effectively as an author under different situations. It also helps writers find new words they haven’t used before or never thought about before, making them sound smart when expressed on paper through their work.

6 – Write With Purpose – Activate Your Pen!

Nothing artificial or forced while learning tips, more often than not, something natural like the “5 W’s” usually taught as follows any time someone explains anything: Where did it happen? Who was there, when did it happen? What was their reaction to the event they’ve encountered while writing or, in this case, answering any question that anyone may have as a reader? One of everyone’s goals every time they go through learning material is surely succeeded and enjoy succeeding at anything with purpose – Making progress towards success before you get bored/frustrated should be your number-one goal before quitting…

One secret most writers fail to take advantage of. Then it becomes partly why some of them don’t even bother to write a single sentence and push start their laptops as if nothing existed other than opening files, typing words, then finding grammar-check/spell check/a few very redundant tools help writers attempt anymore.

So, set your purpose for writing every time you sit down at the computer.

7 – Get Inspiration From TV

It’s great to start writing as a hobby by telling you about the tv that inspires writers and why tv shows are important for artists. The tv may not only inspire us but also keep us entertained and inspired, which makes it very helpful in increasing our productivity level and reducing stress levels from work or other daily activities like school homework etc.

You can write down whatever ideas come your way while watching TV series or movies since they’re showing new material you can use as inspiration for your writing project. So don’t hesitate the next time you see an episode of a new TV series, assume it to be one of the best and most enthusiastic campaigns they would ever do because you may end up using that valuable piece of material somehow in your articles/books or whatever your purpose is to write/publish on such platforms like books, etc.

8 – Start Communicating With Email

Your brain needs something to latch on to and stick with, so you can start thinking about how the story will be organized and developed instead of writing it out piece by piece, just like if you were emailing some friends back home from an overseas vacation: one sentence at a time…

There are over 50 billion email messages sent in the world on any given day, and about 300 million messages are being written. The same helpful strategy that you can use to start writing your book, article, or blog post applies equally well to communicating through email.

9 – Understand Your Writing Style

Writing as a hobby can be very rewarding, but writing also has challenges to fulfill. You must understand your writing style and write what inspires you rather than what “is supposed to” look like.

Creative writing means something different for everyone: it could mean poetry, short stories, or novels; the thing we love in creative writing is getting away from everyday life by immersing myself in an imaginary story world where we can see everything happening around me.

10 – Reduce or Eliminate Distractions

Social media can be a real distraction while writing. You don’t have to quit social media altogether; you could block social media like in some professions. Put a lot of self-imposed rules and restrictions on your social media platforms or stay quiet during working hours. Failing at something is frustrating, but when you fail, it allows you to improve (you have one more opportunity.

Final Words

Book reading is one of the most prevalent hobbies among children. That’s why this topic has a certain reputation to come in as an essay writing topic in various types of examinations. But I have noticed that students of different classes face a few issues while writing essays on this very topic. Therefore I have decided to come up with a session explaining the very method of writing an essay on my hobby reading book most specifically for the students from class 6 to 9.

 My Hobby Reading Book

All my school friends have chosen something as their hobby while promoted to high school from the primary standard. I also chose book reading as my hobby. I love to read different kinds of books since my early childhood. I still remember that my mother used to tell me stories at night when I was a child.

Probably my passion for reading storybooks got developed from that time. I prefer reading detective as well as ghost stories. One of my teachers has asked me to read travel stories by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. I have read the book Chander Pahar written by him. The character Shankar from the novel Chander Pahar has become very close to my heart.

My Hobby Reading Book

Everybody in their life pursues something as a hobby. A hobby is something that any person is passionate about. People spend their leisure time pursuing a hobby. Like other people, I have chosen reading books as my hobby. This hobby of mine is not about reading regular academic books. Rather I love to read books on different topics and incidents happening all around the world.

Especially, I love to read books on real travel stories as well as adventures. My habit of reading books developed since I was a child. We had no television or mobile phone in our house but a lot of books. I used to read from them whatever I wanted to. Most of those I hardly understood. I still remember those days when my father used to buy me monthly child magazines like Anandamela and Suktara.

I still love reading comics from those magazines. My favorite comics are Tintin, Chacha Chowdhury as well as Nonte-Fonte. I have recently read a book named Aranyak written by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. It is all about the life experience of the author in a remote rural location of India. In this book, the description of nature is so vivid that any passionate reader will get lost in an amazing experience. All my teachers as well as my parents appreciate this hobby.

A hobby is something that a person pursues to take a break from the same monotonous regular routine. That’s why everyone chooses something as a hobby that they love. Because as wise men say that love can be the ultimate motivation to do something.

So, we all need to choose something as our hobby that we are passionate about. Without passion, all our efforts to do something creative go into the vein. Our hobbies necessarily can enrich us both physically and mentally. That’s why my father says that hobbies are needed to be chosen wisely and very carefully for proper utilization of both time and effort.

Hobbies can be of many different types. Many of my classmates have chosen singing, gardening, painting as their hobbies. My best friend Piyush chose stamps collection as his hobby. These all hobbies bring refreshment to them. Like my friends, I have also chosen reading books as my hobby. I enjoy my hobby the most.

I love to read about everything no matter what topic it is. Since my early childhood, I developed a passion for reading. My parents used to gift me so many books since then. Every year, I go to the Kolkata International Book Fair with my parents. Moreover, After getting promoted to high school from primary, I got exclusive student access to my school library.

Nowadays, I borrow more books from the library than buying them. Not only the school library but my father has also helped me to get a membership of the district library Khardah.

I love reading all kinds of books. But especially I am passionate about reading historical fiction. For this reason, Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay is one of my most favorite writers. Besides these, I also love to read adventure fiction as well as mythologies.

Essay on My Hobby Reading Book within 500 Words

What is a hobby? What a person should choose as a hobby? Before going deep into the discussion of my hobby, let’s talk about the hobby itself. A hobby is something that people do especially in their leisure time mostly for enjoyment. We do not expect to get paid for our hobbies.

These are some habits that come from inside us due to our natural internal tendency as well as passion. Hobbies include a wide range of activities. It can be collecting something like coins or stamps or leaves, fine arts activities like painting, dancing,  Creative works like gardening, writing poetry, etc. Or it can simply be reading books, like what I have chosen as my hobby of life.

At the very beginning, I want to say that I literally admire my hobby, and one of my playschool teachers inspired me to fall in love with reading books when I was at my very early age. I still remember she used to bring me many kinds of colorful interesting books full of amazing stories as well as pictures.

At that age, I fond of those kinds of books. Later on, I came to know that those books are known as comics. I have read so many comics since my early childhood. Tintin, Phantom, Dennis the Menace, Hada Bhoda, Nonte-Phonte is a few among them. My parents always appreciate my hobby of reading books. For me, reading any book is the way of my utmost relaxation.

When I get tremendously bored of my regular monotonous life, at that point my storybooks help me to travel in some dream location being a part of some exciting adventure of imagination. After going to high school, I got exclusive access to my school’s students’ library and a different world opened there for me. From then, I borrow books so many kinds of books from my school library and read them thoroughly.

Here, I would like to mention my school librarian sir Mr. Paresh Pathak who helps me to choose the proper book according to my age and reading tendency. From my school library, I have read many works of great authors like Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, Satyajit Ray, and many more.

Recently, I have developed a special interest in magic realism. Very recently, I was reading a work of the great Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The name of the book is very famous One Hundred Years of Solitude. It is an amazing work that led me to a different fantasy world along with the dark humorous touch of eternal truth.

I’ve also read some works of Franz Kafka. His famous work The Metamorphosis will be very close to my heart always. For these also all credit goes my school librarian sir. He first suggested me to read something unconventional out of the box.

I got the first book of Gabriel Garcia Marquez from him. Moreover, I learned about magic realism from him as well. I believe that no matter what happens with human beings, but books, stories, and realization are eternal. They will never abandon me in my entire life.

That was all about essay writing on my hobby reading books. Here in the session, I have tried to write some essays on the very topic following every method and all possible perspectives. Moreover, I have also tried to write them for students of different classes. Besides, I maintained the word limit relevant for various examinations.

Hope you found this session helpful as per your requirement. Let us know your valuable opinion as well as suggestions for this session in the comment section below. Thank you; see you again very soon.
