Our school recently organised a trip to Red Fort for class 8 students. The Red Fort, popularly referred to as Lal Quila, is a prominent landmark in Delhi. It is situated beside the Yamuna River. Shah Jehan constructed it in 1648 using red stones. It included Diwan-e-Aam which is a hall of public audience, Diwan-e-Khas, Rang Mahal, and other structures. I visited Qutub Minar with my family last Sunday. Even though we live in Delhi, we had never been to see the minaret from up close. Qutub Minar is among Delhi's most intriguing tourist attractions. We hired a tour guide from the tourist office area located in the premises of the historical monument. While giving us a tour he told us about many interesting historical facts about the monument.

Interesting Facts | Qutub Minar is the world's tallest brick-built minaret, at 72.5 metres high. UNESCO has designated it as a World Heritage Site. This minaret is regarded as the symbol of triumph. Qutub-Ud-In Aibak, a deputy employed by Muhammad of Ghor, began building this minaret in Delhi as a memoir of victory. The building of the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan served as inspiration for the design of the Qutub Minar. Hence, the Afghani and Indo-Islamic architecture is evident in the design of the minaret. It is regarded as the Delhi Sultanate's emblem.

Architecture | The Qutub Minar features five storeys that are constructed in various timelines and symbolise various historical events. Beautiful balconies extend from each storey, making it a one-of-a-kind minaret. Marble and red sandstone were used to construct the tower. On the northeastern side of qutub minar, Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, India's first mosque, was built in 1198. After over 169 years, the lighting-damaged monument underwent renovations and gained two more floors under the reign of the modern Delhi Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlak. He completed the building by adding a dome or cupola to the top. These stories were crafted from white sandstone and marble. In this tower, the colour difference is fairly noticeable. Due to an earthquake that caused the minaret to shake and tumble, this dome is no longer visible. In the British era, Major R. Smith, a member of the British Empire's Royal Engineers, reconstructed the upper section in 1823 using a "Chhatri," or Bengali-style architecture. This upper section is still visible above the fifth storey.

Places We Saw | The interior of the minaret was quite interesting to explore because it had elaborate carvings and lovely patterns that date back more than 900 years. We also saw the minaret's iron pillar which was constructed in the fourth century AD. For 1600 years, the iron pillar stood the test of time. It is almost all wrought iron and hasn't rusted yet.

Our tour guide also took us to visit the tomb of Adham Khan, a minister in Akbar's imperial court, located not far from Qutub Minar. It dates back to the 16th century. Due to the murder of one of Akbar's closest ministers by Adham Khan, the emperor mandated that an octagonal tomb be built rather than a hexagonal one to signify that it is a traitor's tomb. The monument was a large tomb with magnificent archways.

This minaret has a lengthy history, having been built and restored by numerous Indian kings. It is also an illustration of the diverse Indian culture that emerged through several dynasties.I had a great time visiting the Qutub Minar. It was an unforgettable experience that provided us a glimpse of the great heritage of our country.

Our principal and teachers had planned for all of us to visit the Taj Mahal on a full moon night. We were told that on the full moon night the monument looks even more glamorous and glorious, and it makes for a splendid spectacle. This added even more excitement to the previous announcement. We would have had to stay awake the whole night but so what? For such a wonderful experience, it was not a big deal.

We were asked to assemble on a Saturday afternoon at the school campus. We were instructed to carry our packed dinner-boxes and water bottles. We were strictly prohibited from buying any eatables there or littering the Taj Garden’s premises. We were warned against buying the souvenirs from the crafty hawkers. These instructions and warnings were repeated to us over and over again. First by our Principal, then by the respective teachers who were in charge of our groups into which we were divided.

We had brought consent from our parents in writing for this trip. From Delhi to Agra, we had to travel by bus, it was around a 5 hours journey. We assembled at the school campus at the given time, and were divided into groups. The teachers took charge of the respective groups, our teacher in charge asked us to stand in a queue, she called out our names from a list that she carried. The items each one of us was carrying were inspected, and then we went ahead to board the buses.

As we started to move out of the school campus, we all hailed the school with three cheers in a chorus and the journey began. After about 5 hours we were told that we were at The Taj Mahal. The full moon was shining in the sky right above us. The premises seemed like it was filled with the milky hue. We left our buses at a little distance and stepped down. Again, our teachers called out our names from the lists, and we all stood in a straight line. We followed our teacher and walked towards the monument.

After a little while, we were at the main gate of The Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal glowed in the full moonlight in its grandeur. We all felt wonderstruck by the majesty, beauty, and opulence of the dome structure. The moonlit premises added elegance to the mystique. The Taj Mahal resembled a white swan standing still in a sprawling milk lake. The fountains on the campus were bubbling and bursting along the pathway. The fountains were flanked by the green lawns on either side. It was heavily crowded. Men, women, and children were trying to find a way for themselves. There were so many foreigners looking at the monument like they were totally wonderstruck.

We had to ramble to make it to the main platform, took off our shoes at the entrance, and were up on the main platform on which stood the great monument. The four minarets stood like sentinels on the four corners. After about two hours of wandering and rejoicing around the ‘Dream in Marble’, we came down to the lawns to open our dinner packets. Thereafter, it was time to begin our return journey.

Last Sunday, I visited the Taj Mahal with my family. It was a dream come true for us to have visited the architectural marvel about which we have heard so much and had read so much in our books. We started feeling proud of our country to have this magnificent form of art.

Our history teacher asked us to assemble at a place and started explaining how the Mughal emperor Shahjahan got this monument built as a mausoleum for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. He had stated his desire to be buried by her side after his death. So, there were the two graves inside the mausoleum placed side by side.

We roamed around, kept adoring the astounding beauty, and were amazed at the artistry of the fine carvings. How gifted must those hands be which created that piece of art with so much artistry, we pondered. We looked at the Taj Mahal at one glance and in the second looked at the full moon in the sky. The Taj Mahal looked no less marvellous than the moon in the sky.

River Yamuna flows on the backside of this magnificent monument. It was as if the Yamuna was washing the feet of this marvellous wonder with a full sense of gratitude. For two hours, we went around this monument only rejoicing and wondering.

The Akshaya Var tree was again in my path as I continued walking. This tree's wish-fulfilling well is said to be a popular destination for folklore lovers. Akbar stopped it. The Mughal Governor's (Military Commander's) pavilion, however, was most inviting with Beautiful pillars. They had impeccable taste.

The British decided to demolish a considerable portion of the fort to make place for a school, reducing its beauty. At present, the historic palace is now an arsenal.

Then I went back to Triveni for a swim. I lauded the Ganga's merits after my Allahabad Fort visit. Comparing the old and new forts at Allahabad, it is evident that the old fort at Allahabad is in ruins, while the new fort at Allahabad demonstrates neglect.

Let us hope the scientists are able to find a fix and can save our Taj Mahal.

Dyer, the British troops did open fire on a large group of unarmed protesters. In this firing, more than ten thousand people were killed, which is also known as the Amritsar Massacre.

Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a historical fort in old Delhi. It was built as a palace by the 5th Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, as he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi in 1638. The capital was known as Shahjahanabad which is currently present in Old Delhi. The fort represents the Mughal architecture under the Shah Jahan emperor that combines Persianate palace architecture with Indian traditions.

Ajanta Ellora Caves is the largest rock-cut Hindu temple in the world which is carved into hillside rock in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. There are around 100 caves at the site, but only 34 caves are open for public view.

Recently our school organized an educational trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The Taj Mahal is the most beautiful monument built in the Mughal period. It is one of the wonders of the world. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

This gateway of Taj Mahal is built with the use of Red Sandstone. There is a beautiful garden that begins at the main gateway and ends at the base of the monument. The building is made of pure white marble. It took twenty thousand workmen and twenty years to build. The monument is built on the bank of the river Yamuna. It was the most beautiful building I had ever seen.

A Visit to a Historical Place Essay: 120 Words

Last Sunday, we went to the Red Fort by a specially hired bus. Along the entrance two rows of shops selling various objects of art besides selling handicrafts. During the Mughal times, this was known as Meena Bazaar. After crossing the lawn, we reached the historic building known as ‘Naubat Khana’. Then we saw ‘Diwan-e-Aam’ or the Hall of Public Audience.

Then we went to the ’Rang Mahal’ which was a place of pleasures and richly inlaid with precious stones in the Mughal period. There is a ‘Khas Mahal’ beside the Rang Mahal. It has a beautiful marble screen. The Red Fort also has the War Memorial Museum where weapons used in the First World War are exhibited. We got to see many historical things that we read in our books. We enjoyed the trip very much.

My dream came true when last month our history teacher arranged a trip to Agra for us. It was 24 October when we reached there. That very afternoon we went to see the famous Taj Mahal. It is a masterpiece of architecture-all in marble. We admired the four more mosques with tall slender minarets and the huge central dome. The surroundings lend beauty to it. The mausoleum stands in the center of a big garden with marble water channels, rows of fountains, and stately cypress trees.

The tombs of Shah Jahan and his wife lie beneath the dome. We went to see the Agra Fort too. When Shah Jahan was confined there, he spent his time gazing at the mausoleum of his creation from his prison window. We saw things that we had read about in our books-the Dewan-i-Am, the Diwan-i-Khas, the Pearl Mosque, and the Shish Mahal. A visit to a place of historical importance does make history real and interesting. It was a wonderful trip.

A visit to a historical place is very educative. It instructs as well as entertains us. I am fond of visiting historical buildings. Last year, I went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. In the evening, we went to see the Taj Mahal. I had heard a lot about the beauty of the Taj Mahal. But reality surpassed the descriptions that had been given to me.

It is a wonder in marble, a specimen of Mughal art. Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was built about three hundred and fifty years ago. The tall dark cypress trees, smooth green lawns, and the beds of flowers are pleasing to the eyes. The fountains flow here and there.

The main building is made of white marble. It stands on a raised platform. At its four corners, there are four stately towers. Inside the tomb, Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtaz Mahal lie buried side by side. This monument tells us about the expertise of the artists and craftsmen of that era. The visit to the Taj Mahal was a wonderful experience for us. It was both enjoyable and educational.

Historical places connect us to the past. We find our roots through historical sites and museums and relate with the past cultures. However, the historical places and museums are mainly visited by tourists from other cities and countries. They do not draw a lot of interest from local communities. Let us take a look at all the reasons why we cannot find locals visiting ancient sites near their homes.

Locals find nothing new or particularly interesting about historical sites and the artifacts present in the museums in their vicinity. They have been living around them for so long that these locations have turned into blind spots.

Sadly, we travel to witness the historic beauty of other countries and cities and show little interest in historical places around us. We often pass by the historical places and the appeal of visiting them is lost. Over that, we also spend most of our lives in that particular area and do not consider it as a source of recreation or knowledge. For us, the historical sites located in our areas are similar to regular places that we see daily. The tourists are interested to learn about the cultural heritage and historical remains of various cities and states. They take out time and arrange money to explore the ancient sites and museums. On the other hand, the locals are busy making plans to visit places in other cities and countries. The basic reason is the site that you witness every day does not attract you as much.

On many occasions, the locals are already aware of the culture and historic significance of a place and there is nothing new to discover. They consider it to be a waste of money and time, instead, they consider traveling to a new place. After all, no one is willing to spend on the same experiences. A tourist, on the other hand, finds it interesting to explore new places, cultures, food habits, shopping destinations, and ancient museums.

As of now, the local people hardly visit the historical sites and museums around them. However, the situation should not remain the same. The government needs to take measures to rekindle interest among the local people and urge them to visit the historic areas in their vicinity.

Firstly, the tickets for entering the historic sites for locals should either be free or minimally priced. Free tickets will attract the masses. Local people must have full means to pay for visiting a local heritage site.

Secondly, the historical sites and museums can portray new work and amusement activities that create interest among the local people. A museum can conduct various cultural shows, interactive sessions, and exhibitions for the local people so that the bond with the local communities stays alive. If the local people are allowed to participate and display their talent and artwork in the museums, we may see a rise in the number of locals visiting these places.

Thirdly, festivals can be held in these historical sites. People usually love to celebrate festivals within their communities. So, if festivals are celebrated in the museums and historical sites we should see the sites filled with locals enjoying their hearts out.

That being said, if implemented well, these measures can be effective in gaining a good amount of attention from the local people. Tourists have their reasons to visit a new place but to increase the attendance of local people, the government needs to take some of these special measures.

I strongly feel that historical sites are beautiful and they must be preserved.

Firstly, historical sites are the key remains of our ancestors. It helps modern society to learn about different faiths, cultures, developments, civilizations, and a lot more. Historical sites also promote cultural diversity and uphold the values, traditions, and culture of a particular country or city. Demolishing a piece of history to build modern infrastructure is not the value we are trying to achieve. With history being erased we will lose out on the roots to which we belong.

Secondly, many parts of the world largely depend on the tourism industry for generating revenue and employment. The money generated by tourism accounts for more than 5% of global GDP. Historical places are among the main attractions and pull factors for tourism. How can developing countries afford to lose this source of revenue? Many states and cities completely sustain themselves based on the tourism industry. This, in turn, calls for the better preservation of our cultural heritage.

Thirdly, a small city or country gets recognition on the global map due to its famous historical sites that attract tourists from all over the world. Historical sites have helped many hidden places gain recognition and fame.

Lastly, historical buildings are the nation’s pride. For example, the ‘Taj Mahal’ of India, and the ‘Great Wall of China’, represent the respective countries themselves. These sites have both cultural and economic value for the countries they are located in.

Summing up, I strongly believe that historical sites should be preserved. A country’s ancient architecture speaks a lot about its beautiful timeless past and glory. Historical sites bind one generation to another and they help string together memories of the past.

Tips to Write an IELTS Winning Essay

The minimum word limit for the task 2 essay is 250. There is no upper word limit.
You have 40 minutes to complete the essay.
Answer all parts of the questions. There can be more than one part. For example, in sample 1, there are two parts – the reasons why the local people do not visit the historic places and the measures to encourage local people to visit the historic sites.
Use related common vocabulary – some words for an essay on ‘historical places’ are ancient, culture, historic, contemporary, famous, roots, past, values, heritage, tradition, and tourism.
Use the relevant synonyms to write an essay after brainstorming your ideas.
Do not use bullet points or numbers to write advantages and disadvantages or discuss the arguments. It is recommended to write 3-4 ideas and explain them with relevant information and examples.
Spellings are important. Do not make spelling mistakes. Avoid using complicated and long ones to avoid mistakes.

You need to give your opinion in an opinion essay and it should have relevant reasons and ideas.
In an ‘advantage and disadvantage’ essay, you need to focus on both advantages and disadvantages of a particular topic.
In an ‘agree and disagree’ essay, you need to speak for both sides and mention if you ‘agree’ or ‘disagree’ with valid reasons.
If you are using facts and numbers, they should match with the official sources.
Organize your essay in short paragraphs. Do not write long paragraphs.
Practice the topics that are frequently used in task 2. Some of the common topics are art, crime, education, modern technology, globalization, historical places, and social problems.
Marks in Task 2 are awarded based on lexical resources, vocabulary, grammar, and coherence. So, focus on all the aspects while writing.
The essay should be written in a formal or semi-formal tone. Be careful with the words that you choose to express ideas and concepts.

During our last summer vacation, I visited the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra with my family. The Taj Mahal, located by the Yamuna River, impressed us with its beautiful white marble and four minarets. Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, with the help of 20,000 workers. It took about twenty years to complete. As we looked around, we liked the marble tombs of the emperor and his wife, decorated with beautiful Quranic verses. Surrounded by gardens and fountains, the Taj Mahal stands as a symbol of love and Mughal architecture greatness. Despite the crowds, we enjoyed our visit and completed our tour by noon. Seeing such a stunning wonder was an amazing experience.

Last year, I went to experience a historical place ( Fatehpur Sikri ) that is located in Agra. Fatehpur Sikri is a town where lakhs of tourists come to see it every year.

I also went to see the place very closely with my family.

2. How did we start?

After Holi, our family members decided to visit one of the historical places in India. At last, they came to the conclusion that they would go to visit Fatehpur Sikri.

About a week after Holi, we all left for Agra by car. Almost after five hours, we reached Agra.

But being late at night, we decided to stay in a hotel. Our hotel was very luxurious and full of facilities. The hotel was very close to the place that we wanted to visit.

When it was morning, all our family members got ready and set out from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri by car.

3. Distance and Time

Actually, the distance from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri is about thirty-six kilometers via the Bikaner-Agra route. It took us about 35 to 40 minutes by car to cover such a distance.

We enjoyed ourselves a lot on the way.

This route was so good that whenever I decide to go to Fatehpur Sikri in the future, I will choose this path only.

4. Why and who built it?

When we reached Fatehpur Sikri, we hired a guide. He told everything about Fatehpur Sikri.

The first thing that we came to know from our guide was that the place was founded by Akbar when he conquered Gujrat.

Moreover, he told us a lot of surprising things about Buland Darwaza that is situated in Fatehpur Sikri.

He told us that it’s the highest gate in the world, it’s a grand specimen of Architecture and Indian art, it was built more than four hundred years ago, etc.

We saw the real palace of Jodha Bai and the court hall. However, the palace was not in good condition but we were amazed to see this.

5. What impressed me the most?

Well, I was very curious to see this place beforehand but when I entered the town, I was surprised because I got to see a lot of excellent buildings there such as Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal, Salim Chishti’s Dargah, etc.

The building that impressed me the most was the Buland Darwaza.

When I was on the stairs of the Buland Darwaza, I felt that I was in Egypt.

Additionally, I was feeling very proud of Indian workmanship. It literally gave me a glimpse of India’s past glory.

6. Conclusion

At last, I would say that I saw many amazing buildings in Fatehpur Sikri and learnt a lot from those buildings.

But, I was very sad to know that the city was deserted by the same man who built it. So, if you want to see the real architecture of ancient people, you must go there.

There are many historical places in our country and Agra is one of them. Although Agra is known for many things but it’s very illustrious for the Taj Mahal.

Every year lakhs of people come to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.

One day, our school teachers planned to visit a historical place. After about two weeks, we set out for a historical place that was in Delhi.

When we were heading to Delhi by bus, we decided to visit the Red Fort.

Since we left the school early in the morning, we reached the Red Fort at 3 pm.

Well, many of us had already visited this place but they were wishing to visit it again as they wanted to collect more information under proper guidance.

Since all the history teachers were in the charge of the journey, we didn’t need any guide there. The teachers gathered us at one place and bought tickets for us.

As we entered the Red Fort, we all felt as if we had landed on Mars as the view all around was red which looked great.

Moreover, our history teachers started telling more about the fort.

There were two rows of shops where art and handicraft items were being sold. The place where the shops were located was known as the Meena Bazar in the Mughal time.

After that, we saw many places inside the Red Fort such as Diwan-e-Aam known as the Hall of Public Audience, Rang Mahal, Khas Mahal, War Memorial Museum etc.

When teachers were telling us about these places, we were creating a scenario in our minds so that we could connect things to the Mughal period.

As a result, we all had entered the Mughal period which was giving us great pleasure.

When we came out of the fort, we all went to a restaurant and had a good dinner.

Overall, the experience was great and while returning from there we thought of visiting another historical place with the same teachers.

Pakistan is home to many amazing historical places, and one of them is Mohenjo-Daro. It’s like a special time machine that takes us back to ancient times, letting us discover the secrets of a very old civilization. As I stood at the entrance, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement, knowing that I was about to step into a world that existed thousands of years ago.

Mohenjo-Daro is an old city in Pakistan, way back from around 2600 BCE. That’s a super long time ago! It was part of the Indus Valley Civilization, one of the first cities in the world. The people who lived there were smart – they had good city planning, nice streets, and clever drainage systems. It’s incredible to think about how they organized their city, and I was amazed to learn that they even had multi-story buildings. It shows how advanced they were for their time.

Mohenjo-Daro is like a time capsule. The things they left behind, like pots, seals, and statues, show us how they lived. The city planning shows they liked order and neatness. It’s like a big puzzle that tells us about their culture and how creative they were. The Dancing Girl statue, with its graceful pose, made me feel like I could almost hear the music from their ancient celebrations. It’s like the people from the past are still telling their stories through these artifacts.

When I visited Mohenjo-Daro, it felt like I was in a history book, but better! Seeing the Great Bath, the granaries, and the Dancing Girl statue was like meeting ancient friends. Having got an invitation from a friend of mine to visit his home in Delhi I started one September morning and arrived there in the evening. After a stay of two days there, we proceeded to Agra to see the wonderful Taj. I shall never forget my first sight of Taj Mahal as I looked at it in the light of the full moon.

The Taj stands outside the city of Agra on the bank of the river Yamuna. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum over the grave of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is an everlasting token of the Emperor’s great love for his beloved queen. It cost him about 3 crores of rupees.

It is said that it took 20 years to build and that 20000 workmen were employed on the work. Skilful workman, sculptors, painters, and architects were sent for from all lands.

The Taj is one of the wonders of the world and the greatest treasure of the Mughal architecture. It is a great Masterpiece of artistic design.

It was in the evening, just before sunset that I went there. On passing through the entrance the first thing that struck my eyes was a beautiful water-course lined with Cypress trees.

The Taj itself lies in the spacious Park. It is surrounded by rows of palm and Cypress trees smooth green lawns fountains with transparent water beds of growing flowers and smooth straight walks.

The great tomb stands on a huge platform made of white marble. At each corner of the platform stands tall slender white marble minaret that seems to guard this precious monument like a sentinel.

On approaching it I found that it was very large and stately. The main dome which is about 275 feet high, seems to soar into the blue sky. Besides the main dome, there are two other domes one on each side.

The walls of the domes are decorated with precious stones of various colours. The pretty screens of the carved marble add to its fairy-like beauty. Below, it is the Hall of Death where the loving hearts lie side by side.

But the beauty of the Taj becomes 100-fold when it is seen in the light of the full moon. It looks like a building of pearls or a palace made of silver. It is, in fact, the greatest wonder of the world.

It is one of the seven wonders of the world and is also known as “The Crown of The World”. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1631 to 1653, it is an immense mausoleum of white marble. More than 20000 men were put to work to complete the structure for 22 years.

It is considered a symbol of love, as Shah Jahan built it as a symbol of love for his wife, Mumtaj Mahal. It is built on the banks of the Yamuna River. The Taj Mahal is embedded in an amazing garden that has cypress trees, beautiful flowers , and even fountains in some places.

The garden also has smooth green lawns and glowing flowers spread across it. These pretty stuffs do add to the beauty of the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal is surrounded by four tall minarets made of white marble, one in each corner of the platform. From a distance, it looks small and delicate, but if we get closer to the Taj Mahal and stand near the marble steps, the dome seems so big as if it is touching the sky.

This has become a great piece of work for which our country is proud. Whenever you visit the Taj Mahal, you’ll notice that people from different parts of the world will be there to experience this wonderful place.

Each and every part of the site is very attractive, and it becomes even more beautiful in the moonlight.

A Visit to a Historical Place Murshidabad (West Bengal)

Murshidabad, a historically old place, was the capital of undivided Bengal before the British Raj. It is a rural destination home to several historical and tourist sites. It is actually a district located on the banks of river Bhagirathi. In the year 1773, the state capital was shifted from Murshidabad to Kolkata.

When we went to Murshidabad, the first place we visited was the Hazarduari Palace. As the name suggests, it is a palace with a thousand doors and was built in the year 1837 for Nawab Najim Humayun-Jah.

We got to know that there were 114 rooms, 8 galleries, and a museum located inside the palace, and it is considered an excellent piece of architecture.

The next best attraction in Murshidabad is the Nasipur Royal Palace, which was built by the 19th-century king Kritichand Bahadur. This palace is popularly known for tax collection under British rule.

When we went there, we noticed that the palace had deteriorated and been damaged throughout the years. However, the remains of her palace have been well preserved, and hence is is one of the most popular attractions in this region.

Murshidabad’s Kathgola Palace is another amazing location in Murshidabad. This was originally the baking house of Jagat Seths, the Jain family of the region. The palace houses some rare artefacts of historical importance. One should never miss a visit to this site.

A Visit to a Historical Place Qutub Minar and Red Fort (Delhi)

A visit to a historical monument is always an exciting experience and a fascinating adventure. The Qutub Minar is one such site that has a lot to offer.

The Qutub Minar is the landmark of Delhi and one of the most prestigious monuments of Indian heritage.

When we visited Qutub Minar, the place was already filled with visitors. One must need a tourist guide if he wants to visit the place in its entirety.

Qutub Minar is one of the tallest monumental structures in India. In the year 1119, Qutub-ud-din Aibak started its construction, but it was completed by his successor Iltutmish. It is about 72.5 m high and has 379 steps to reach the top of the tower.

Apart from Qutub Minar, there is another fascinating site located in Delhi. The Red Fort is a symbol of Mughal power and majesty. In the year 1648, the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built it, and it is completely made up of red stone.

Located on the banks of the Yamuna river, it is one of several monumental wonders of India. Every year, on Independence Day, the Prime Minister addresses the nation from the Red Fort.

It is a site that we usually visit, as travel and accommodations are easier for this location. Located in central Delhi, it is a monument of utmost significance for modern Indian history.

A Visit to a Historical Place Sivasagar (Assam)

Sivasagar, a region in Assam, houses a number of historical sites and monuments. During our visit to the place, we took a bus from Guwahati to Sivasagar. There are a lot of beautiful natural scenery and tea gardens on the way.

Sivasagar is a region that is known for its tea and oil industries. However, apart from it, here are some tourist spots in the area.

Sivadol, it is actually a group of monuments that house the temples of Sivadol, Visnudol, and Devidol. Some other shrines and a museum are also located in this region.

Rang Ghar is a two-storied building that was once a sports pavilion for royal kings and nobles. From Sivasagar town, we travelled for 3 km to reach the place.

Karng Ghar is also known as The Gorgaon Palace. It is located at about 15kms from the Sivasagar town, and one has to travel by either bus or local fare to reach there. Made in 1747, the palace is surrounded by a 5km long wall that is worth seeing in this region.

A Visit to a Historical Place Golden Temple (Punjab)

The Golden Temple is a wonderful holy shrine located in Amritsar, Punjab . Its original name is Sri Harmandir Sahib, but it is more popularly known as the Golden Temple. It is the holiest place in Sikhism, and when we went there, we saw thousands of Sikhs.

Furthermore, Sikhs visit the place on a daily basis, as it is an important place for them besides being a tourist site.

Amongst the fascinating features of this temple is that it looks alluring in its golden color. It has a glittering golden dome that makes it appear so beautiful. The entire temple is a two-storey monument.

There is also a golden leaf of about 400 kg located on the upper half of the temple. It is the architecture of the temple that gives it a beautiful look and enhances the pleasing appearance of the shrine.

The structure looks even more beautiful at night due to the temple’s reflection on the water.

Historical places are of utmost importance to us and also to our nation. They are important not because they are a good tourist spot to generate money but because they preserve the rich cultural heritage of a region.

● Visit to Historical Place Agra

I had a long cherished dream of visiting Agra since my childhood. The chance came sooner than expected. Agra is famous for many historical monuments and incomparable beauty of the Taj Mahal. Last summer vacation, I had a chance of visiting Agra. I went there with my family members and stayed there for three days.

Delhi, specially the Old Delhi, is a place of historical interest. This is the place bears the banner of Incredible India for the tourists. I heard a lot about the matchless beauty of the Taj Mahal. But all descriptions paled into insignificance when I actually saw it before me.

The Taj is built of snow-white transparent marble by emperor Shajahan on the grave of his beloved wife Mumtaz Begam. The walls and ceilings are inlaid with precious stones. When we visited the Taj on moonlit night, we could hardly believe our eyes. It is a thing to dream of, beyond description in words. The charm of the Taj has remained matchless for ever.

The next day, we visited the Agra Fort, the Diwan-i-Am and Diwan-i-Khas. We paid a visit to Fatehpur Sikri. Here I saw the ruins of a new capital city built by Akbar in honour of a Muslim saint, Salim Chisti. The most splendid thing this was the gateway of victory with a long flight of steps. We visited the Parliament House. This was my first historical visit to a place but I will ever remember the beauty of the Taj – ” A thing of beauty, is a joy for ever”.

● Visit to Historical Place Murshidabad

India is indeed incredible for its enrichment of culture, tradition and history. To explore the historical landmarks, I went to Murshidabad with my family during the last vacation.

Murshidabad is a place named after Nawab Murshidkuli Khan. It is situated at West Bengal, in Eastern India. When I visited palaces, castles, mosques, monuments in Murshidabad, it seemed that I was turning living pages of history reigned by the Nawabs of Bengal.

We saw the sight-seeing places by tanga (a cart driven by horse). At first we visited the Hazarduari. It is a huge palatial building built by Nawab Nazim Humayan Jha on the banks of the river Bhagirathi. From our guide I came to know that Hazarduari means a palace with 1000 doors; out of which only 100 doors are real and 900 are false.

The building carries the feature of Indo-European architecture. The most interesting was the huge flight of stairs in front of the building. Hazarduari is now turned into a museum where I saw the weapons used by the Nawabs of Bengal. I saw many precious paintings, and the throne of Nawab there.

Next, we went to the Motijhil, a big tank. We saw Khasbag where Nawab Alibordy Khan lay buried. We also visited the Kathgola Palace which was built by Laksmipath Singh Dugar. It was a beautiful place surrounded by a vast garden. Lastly, I saw the tomb of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dullah.

My visit to Murshidabad brought me to the historical days reigned by the Nawabs of Bengal. It was really a memorable visit.

Pakistani culture, though replete with all these attractive attributes are outstandingly exceptional for its marvelous historical heritage The most startling and spectacular superiority of our culture is pleasurable of Muslim Architecture. And the historical places are the esteemed and exalted emblems of Muslim Culture in Pakistan.

A fortnight ago, my mates and I planned an entertaining excursion. We decided to explore the sheltered mystery of the historical places of Lahore. We finalized our program in a trice. First of all, we decided to visit the legendary tomb of Jahangir. We hired a taxi and reached the elegant tomb without any hitch.

The four magnificent minarets of the tomb presented a stunning sight. They looked like eagle-eyed guards to shield the terrific tomb. Lofty walls and an elegantly decorated big gate guarded the mausoleum of the great emperor. The tomb occupies the heart of a fragrant park.

The park was studded with blooming buds and fragrant flowers. Evenly spaced, thickly growing tall trees with big and lush green shoots (04) enriched the beauty of the place. The flowers” fluttering and dancing in the breeze” presented a spectacular sight. The fruit trees were blossoming.

The swaying twigs of trees, the leaves, the twittering birds, and the whistling wind created an impact of a sanctified place. Impressed by the “soft incense hanging upon the boughs” and “many incense-bearing trees.” l began to sing the beautiful verses of Keats:

Ah, happy, happy boughs that cannot shed Your leaves, nor ever bid the spring adieu

In front of the great tomb, a lovely fountain was spreading its light shower. The drizzling of hoary drops of the fountain produced ultimate excellence. Summing up in the words of S.T. Coleridge, it was

A savage place, holy and enchanted.

Soon afterward, we entered the majestic mausoleum of Mughal Art containing the grave of the emperor. What a life of luxury and abundance he had enjoyed, but now he was lying alone and deserted in the sheer calm of infinity.

Oh, threats of Hell and Hopes of paradise! One thing at least is certain-This Life flies.

The walls of the room were adorned with floral designs. There were curious colorful patterns signifying death. We offered “Fateha” and prayed to Allah to be Merciful and Beneficent to the departed soul. As a whole, the building is a marvelous specimen of Muslim architecture, and is matchless in its beauty and structure.

We came up to the top of the tomb and had a beautiful spectacle of Lahore from there. It was a startling scene. The balmy breeze, fluffy clouds floating in the firmament, the sun hiding behind a flimsy veil of clouds, and the prevailing aroma of the blooming flowers made the panorama so charismatic that it had a lasting impact on our memory.

Then we descended the stairs and sat under a huge shady tree in the park. We spent the rest of our time eating meals, drinking tea, and making some sketches of the floral designs we had just observed in the vast chamber of the tomb.

When the brightness of the day faded into the descending dusk, we hesitatingly headed home. Our minds were full of solemn thoughts. we were pondering over the mystery of death. We all agreed with Shakespeare;

Introduction-

Historical places have special attention for mankind, for they teach us while they amuse us. They present before us a past glory and an artistic sense.

In our country, there are several cities, famous for historic buildings. Agra is at the Top. It is famous for the Taj Mahal. Once I with three of my friends decided to see the Taj at Agra. The next morning we reached the station. The train to Agra was to leave at 8:00 a.m.

Our Plan to Visit Taj Mahal-

There was a great rush on the platform. Vendors were selling hot tea and biscuits. Passengers were talking, gossiping, and laughing. Just then a bell rang and the train arrived. All the compartments were packed. Somehow we got good seats. After a couple of minutes, the engine whistled and the train started. In two hours we reached Raja-ki-Mandi station, from where we hired a tonga and reached the Taj.

We purchased our tickets and entered through the main gate. There we saw two grand lawns. In between them, there was a long passage. We crossed the passage and saw the main building.

Description of the Historical Building-

It was built by Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved queen, whose name was Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj is named after her name. The Taj Mahal is one of the best buildings in the world. It is a masterpiece of art and architecture. It stands in Agra on the right bank of the Jamuna. It is made of white Marble. It is built on a red platform. On each corner of it, there is a tall minaret. Its perfect proportions and exquisite craftsmanship have been described as a vision, a dream, a wonder, and have an excellent beauty.

All 28 types of precious and semi-precious stones were used in its construction. The marble was brought from Rajasthan, the jasper from Punjab, the jade and crystal from China, the turquoise from Tibet, the lapis from Afghanistan, the sapphire from Sri Lanka, and the carnelian came from Arabia.

This sublime garden tomb, an image of Paradise’s Islamic garden cost nearly 32 million rupees and 5 kilos of gold, about 20,000 workers and 1000 elephants labored for 22 years to complete it in 1643. On account of the beauty of grandeur, it is called one of the ‘seven wonders of the world ‘. There are several fountains, many green lawns with cypress trees, and all kinds of bright flowers. On the gate of the main building, the verses from the holy Quaran are engraved.

Inside the Tomb-

Inside the tomb, there are four graves- two in the upper storey information in the upper storey and two in the lower one. The graves in the lower storey are real. Though the Taj looks very attractive during the day, it seems to be a palace of silver at night in the light of the full moon and fountain.

Conclusion-

After spending five hours there, we returned by bus. All of us were immensely pleased to see it and wished to say it again. It was really an awesome journey.

Although most places have sites of historical interest and a variety of museums to visit, it is predominantly tourists who come to see them, not local people. This essay will examine the reasons for this before suggesting some possible methods of attracting local people.

The main factor is the different motivations of tourists and local people. For a tourist, the aim when visiting another country, city or region, is to learn about that new place and possibly to understand its culture and history. Visiting historical sites and museums is an excellent way to do this. On the other hand, local people have often lived in the area for much of their lives, and have either learned this at school or understand it through personal experience. In addition, tourists are on holiday and have set aside time and money for these activities. However, local people may be too busy working and prefer to prioritise their spending on such things as school, shopping and socialising.

Despite this, attendance of local people could be encouraged in a variety of ways. First and foremost, the perception of museums and historical sites could be changed by holding events at these places. For example, they could hold cultural festivals or galas for the community to celebrate a unique aspect of that particular place. Another possibility is to have special promotions, such as a reduced price or free tickets provided in local newspapers and magazines. Related to this, concession cards could also be provided to local people so they are encouraged to come more regularly.

In conclusion, tourists have different motivating factors to local people, which accounts for the reasons that they are more likely to visit museums and historical sites. That said, it is possible to encourage attendance by local people through cultural events and promotions.

The essay on museums and historical places begins well by introducing the topic and then explaining in the thesis statement the purpose of the essay .

The first body paragraph clearly deals with the first aspect of the question, explaining the reasons why tourists prefer to attend museums and historical sites than local people. Two reasons are given for this.

The second body paragraph then sets out possible solutions to the problem of low attendance of local people. Two solutions are presented with some examples to support them.

The conclusion then summarises the main arguments that have been presented.

The essay is thus well-organised and supported, and has a good range of grammar and vocabulary, with high levels of accuracy.

Quwwat-Ul-Islam Masjid, the very first mosque in India is located near Qutub Minar. It has amazing construction and has not been damaged even after 2000 years.

What I Saw There? I was always loved seeing new places and especially the places are related to our history. Qutub Minar is a really popular monument and related to our history. That’s why I thought to be there. I enjoyed my time there and it was a very fun moment for me. The place was full of tourists and lots of them are foreigners. I always love to interact with foreigner peoples. I talked with a few of them; it was a very good experience for me.

Conclusion: We should explore historical places like Qutub Minar more and more. It will let us learn about our history. It will help us to gather more knowledge.

Introduction: Visiting a historic place is a really wonderful experience for everyone. I prefer traveling and I choose my destinations in really attractive places. A Historical Place in India: Red Fort is one of the oldest and beautiful monuments in India. It was constructed over ten years from 1638 to 1648. Once Shah Jahan moved the capital from Agra to Delhi, in that time they were using this fort as Qila-e-Mubarak. This is the place where the president gives his speech on an independent day. An interesting fact about Red Fort is, it’s actually constructed with white color but in the British ruling time they painted it with Red. There is a place in Red Fort named ‘Rang Mahal’. If you visit this place, you must be there. I loved that beautiful place.

It’s the place where the wives of the Emperor, mistresses, and maids stayed. Actually, I am from Mumbai and I have a wish to visit Red Form from a long time ago. One of my friends Satish was staying in South Delhi, he was asking me to visit his place. I was pretty much free because of my winter vacation and that’s why I decided to visit him and gather some traveling experience. The train journey was pretty enjoyable. I was being on a train for the very first time. I was really excited. I was truly amazed to see the natural beauty of India. I loved it.

Why Should We Visit Historic Places? We often need to visit historic places. To learn the history will enrich our knowledge and let us understand about our ancestors. Lots of historic places have really amazing beauty to explore. Some of them have so many things to learn from. If we visit such places, we will be able to learn so much about our past culture, music, architect, etc. We need to visit personally and need to inspire others for visiting such amazing places. My intention behind going to Agra was the Taj.

I have never been in this amazing city and never saw this historic place and that’s why I thought not to miss this chance. This beautiful architectural monument is located bank of river Yamuna. It’s one of the biggest rivers in the subcontinent. It is said that more than 20000 workers worked for 20 years to build this building. So you can imagine how big it is. I was surprised to see the artistic design in the wall and doors. It’s pretty much impossible to do in this time. This Taj is one of the best examples of Mughal architecture.

Things to See There: There are so many things to see in the Taj. I suggest everyone be there in the afternoon. In the time of sunset, the whole scenario is unbelievable beautiful. I just loved the entire scene. It’s dreamy and loving for me. I wish to be here one time as a couple. The most important thing to see in the Taj is its architectural designs. If you understand modern architecture, you will be surprised and amazed at how it that possible to build such an amazing thing at that time.

How to Go There from Delhi? There are so many easy ways to visit Agra from Delhi. The best way to go there is a train. I went there by train. The main railway station in Agra is Agra Cantonment (AGC). It is better to depart from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (NZM), Delhi. In the winter season, the trains are delayed due to fog problem. There are so many trains to go Agra from Delhi. You can also visit with the bus, but I suggest and prefer train due to safety causes. A journey by train is more entertaining than a bus journey.

I really enjoyed the entire journey. I was alone but made few friends on the train who were going into the same destination. I have never been on a train journey often, so it was pretty confusing and hesitating for me. But at the end of the day, the journey was amazing and super.

Conclusion: A very big number of tourists visit this historic place every day. People from all across the world come to see this symbol of love; they come to make their love stronger with this example of real love.

The Taj Mahal is the most magnificent building in India. It is called ‘one of the seven wonders of the world.” It was built by the Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Twenty thousand workmen including some European masons worked day and night for twenty years to build it. It cost the Emperor several crores of rupees.

I had a keen desire to visit this famous building of the world. At last, the day came when my long-cherished desire turned into reality. Last year I had an occasion to attend the marriage of a friend of mine. This gave me a chance to see this masterpiece of artistic design. As I came close to it, I was struck by its unique structure. It is a marvel in marble. We went to the underground room where Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal lie buried. Our minds went back to the times of Shah Jahan when he built this building at a high cost.

The Taj is surrounded by a cypress garden on three sides. It is situated on the bank of the river Jamuna which lends charm to its beauty. The surroundings and the garden luster its architecture. The beauty of the Taj beggars description.

In the moonlit night, its glory and splendor become unique. It is an intoxication and a delight to watch this marvelous feat of workmanship on a full moonlight night. I have seen several buildings but none presents such a glorious view. It is matchless in beauty.

Some historians have named it “the crown of the world.” Someone has rightly called it a ‘poem in marble.’ In short, it is a paradise on earth. It is a thing of beauty and joy forever. The crimson rays of the sun at the time of sunset, enhance its beauty and glory.

My joy knew no bounds on seeing this wonderful building. Its memory will always remain fresh in my mind. My knowledge about the Taj is now firsthand. It is quite different from the second-hand information which I had got from my books.

I also visited some other historical buildings in Agra Fort. It is a huge building that reminds visitors of the lofty grandeur and the glory of the great Moghul Kings. I then went to Fatehpur Sikri where I saw the famous Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal, and many other buildings. All these magnificent structures made a deep impression on me but there is nothing to match the beauty of the Taj.

I was reminded of the English lady who, on seeing the Taj, had said to her husband,” If you promise to build a monument like the Taj in my memory, I am ready to die right now.”

A Visit To A Historical Place

There are numerous historical places in India very much worthy of a visit. It is important that every student should visit some of them because these are of much educational and historical value. History becomes living and lively when you visit a historical place.

The places of greatest historical value in Delhi and of wide interest to the students and common people alike are the Qutab Minar and the Red Fort. One who has not seen the Qutab Minar and the Red Fort in Delhi cannot be said to have seen Delhi at all.

Last Sunday, the Principal of our school arranged a special trip for the senior students to visit the Red Fort. Many of them had already seen the Red Fort but the Principal desired that they should see it again for better knowledge under proper guidance.

A special bus was hired for the purpose and all students of the class 10th were invited to join the trip. We all reached the school punctually where a special bus was ready to take us to the Red Fort. We reached the Red Fort at ten in the morning and the teacher-in-charge of the trip, who was a teacher of history, bought tickets for all of us. After buying tickets we stepped into the Red Fort. Along the entrance, there were two rows of shops selling fine objects of arts and handicrafts. In the Mughal time, this area was known as the Meena Bazar and here the princesses and the queens of the harem made their purchases.

Then we crossed a lawn and made our way to another gate. Here our tickets were checked. This building is known as “Naubat Khana.” It was the Royal Drum House. Royal musicians used to play musical instruments here in the Mughal times five times a day.

Thereafter we entered “Diwan-e-Aam” or the Hall of Public Audience. It has a marble dais and a marble canopy. Here sat the Mughal Emperor and received the ministers, courtiers, and other people who came to meet him on official or public functions. The Emperor sat under the canopy on his throne. His Prime Minister sat on the dais. In olden and golden days the walls of Diwan-e-Aam were covered with paintings and it was decorated with precious stones. But now these valuable treasures are missing. In those days even the humblest citizen could come to Diwan-e-Aam and present his petition to the King if he had any complaint against anybody.

Beyond the Diwan-e-Aam we passed on to the Rang Mahal. It was a place of pleasure and richly inlaid with precious stones in the Mughal times. In the center of the hall ran a canal of refreshing water and it was known as the Nahar-i-Bahisht. A fountain shaped like a flower played in the middle of the hall.

Beside Rang Mahal there is Khas Mahal. It has a beautiful marble screen. A scale is carved on the screen, indicating rigid justice which ruled supreme during the Mughal times. Then there is Diwan-e-Khas, the Hall of Private Audience where only selected people could meet the King, such as the ministers, the princes, the princesses, and the queens. Here was written the Persian couplet which means:

“If there be paradise on earth,

It is here, it is here, it is here.”

The Red Fort also has the War Memorial Museum, which exhibits weapons of war used in the First World War. Here in Red Fort was the famous Peacock Throne and the Kohinoor diamond which Nadir Shah removed to Iran. The throne was dismantled and broken into pieces. The Kohinoor diamond today is found in the British crown.

Red Fort has now been renovated and it has added to the beauty of the Fort.

In every nook and corner of India, we find a large number of historical buildings. We find the remains of ancient temples and forts all over the country right from Kanya Kumari to Kashmir. The temple of sun worship (Martand) in Kashmir is in ruins which was built in the ninth century AD. Thousands of people visit this temple even today.

I made up my mind to visit the Allahabad Fort. This fort stands even today in UP at Allahabad though much of its glory has faded. This fort was built in 1583 by Akbar and even then it is a much better fort in design and elegance. It is much better than the fort of Agra. It is triangular in shape, because it lies on the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna. Its red-sandstone walls are as elegant as that of the Agra fort. It has three important gateways which have high-flanking towers. One of these overlooked the Ganga river to the eastern direction and the other overlooked the Yamuna river to the southern direction. The main gate faced the city and has much heavy outwork like that of the Agra Fort. This fort marked the expansion of the Mughal empire to the east and was constructed on its eastern frontier. Allahabad was very important in those days.

Unfortunately, as I entered the fort, I saw that much of the roofed area of the fort had disappeared and its interior was not as beautiful as it was in the earlier times. I found the famous Ashoka pillar standing opposite to the main entrance which shows that once Allahabad was part of the Magadh Empire. I tried to read out the writing on the pillar and on it is engraved the poetic tribute to the glories of Samudragupta, the emperor of Magadh.

I found the Patalpuri temple, which is another famous relic of Prayag. It is one of the oldest buildings of the pre-muslim period. This temple is located near the northern wall of the arsenal in the vicinity of the gate facing the river. The temple appears to be an underground temple because the fort appears to have been constructed in such a way that it was to be raised to further height.

Again I moved forward and found the Akshaya Var tree. It is said that the people used to fling themselves down into the wish-fulfilling well from this tree. Akbar stopped this practice. The most beautiful place was, however, the pavilion which served as the Mughal Governor’s (Military Commander’s) residence. Its pillars are very beautiful to look at. Their design is elegant.

But the glory of the fort has faded much, as the Britishers had dismantled a larger part of it to construct a school. Thus the upper storeys of the main gate were dismantled altogether and the inlay work suffered much on that account. They converted the old palace into an arsenal.

Then I came back to the Triveni and had a bath there. I sang the hymns in the glory of the Ganga after seeing the Allahabad Fort. If we compare the Old Fort at Allahabad to the Red Fort, we shall have to say that the Red Fort has kept its past glory to a great extent even today, whereas the Allahabad Fort presents a spectacle of a fort that lies in a state of ruins though much of it still remains to tell its tale of woeful neglect.

A Visit to The Taj

There are many historical buildings in India. The Taj Mahal is perhaps the most worth seeing among them. It is in Agra. Last month I visited my uncle who lives in Agra. It is surrounded by many historical places. I visited almost all of them. But the Taj Mahal impressed me the most.

It is perhaps the seventh wonder of the world in beauty and grace. It was built by Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It stands on the bank of the river Yamuna. It took twenty years to build this monument. Almost twenty thousand workers worked day and night. People come to see it from all nooks and corners of the world.

It is enclosed by red sandstone. After entering the gate one sees a waterway. The approach to the Taj lies along this waterway. There are four minarets in four corners of the platform. The tomb is built in the central hall of the building. The graves lie below this tomb. There are marble screens around the false graves. To reach the real graves one has to go down the steps. The graves are of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. Quranic verses are written on both types of graves-false and real ones. They present marvelous sights.

On a full moon night, the Taj presents a wonderful sight. It looks extremely beautiful. Hundreds of people go to see the Taj on a full moon night. It is also called the ‘Dream in marble’. After staying a few days at my uncle’s house. I returned to Delhi by bus. The memory of the Taj has been inscribed on my mind. It is indelible.

A Visit to The Historic Place

There are many historical buildings in Delhi. One of them is the Red Fort. It is also called the ‘Lal Qila’

People from all parts of India and abroad visit it. It was built by Mughal king Shah Jahan. It is situated on the bank of the Yamuna. In front of it is the famous Chandni Chowk. On the opposite side is the Jama Masjid.

Last week I visited it with my classmates. We bought tickets and entered through the main gate. There were shops on either side. We went to Diwan-e-Aam. Here the king used to hold his court. Then we went to Diwan-e-khas. We also saw Moti Masjid which is a nice mosque. Next, we saw. Takt-e-Taus. There we saw the throne where the king used to sit. It was peacock shaped throne which is not there. The king of Iran has taken it to Iran. The King’s seat is now without the grand peacock.

We saw clothes, pots, guns, spears, and other items of the past in the museum. We also saw swords of the Mughal period. Here we learnt a lot about the history of the Mughal period.

Towards the eastern side, we saw the busy Ring Road. We also saw the baths of the Queen. All the inside walls of the fort were beautifully carved and in them were once jewels. But now they are only cavities. The jewels had been taken out by the invaders. The big gates of the fort present a wonderful and royal sight. From the top of the Red Fort, every year the P.M. of India delivers a speech on the 15th of August. The fort is unique in many ways.

We enjoyed the visit very much. We met groups of people wearing beautiful clothes. We left the fort at seven in the evening.

South Carolina Is Home to 76 National Historic Landmarks… These 5 Are the Best Ones to Visit

B eginning in 1935, the United States began an increased effort to preserve important historical places around the country. It took until 1960 for the National Historic Landmark program to come to fruition under the authority of the National Park Service and, later, as a segment of the National Register of Historic Places. Today, there are over 2,600 National Historic Landmarks (NHLs) throughout the country. According to the National Park Service , “The designation of a property as an NHL:

Preserves the stories of nationally important historic events, places, and people for all Americans.
Helps to protect the historic character of the property from any federal action.
Might facilitate eligibility for grants, tax credits, and other opportunities to maintain its historic character.”

Some states naturally have more NHLs than others, with a majority clustered on the East Coast where early colonists jumpstarted American history. South Carolina , as one of the original 13 colonies with a rich history, is home to 76 NHLs. With so many to visit, we’ve rounded up the top five best sites to explore on your next trip to the Palmetto State .

1. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum — Mount Pleasant, SC

Okay, this first location is a bit of a cheat. The museum itself isn’t recognized as an NHL, but several of the ships featured on the naval base are. With a single stop, you can visit two vessels listed as NHLs: both the U.S.S. Laffey and U.S.S. Yorktown rest at anchor in the Charleston Harbor.

The destroyer Laffey served in the D-Day invasion in 1944, the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, the blockade of Korea in 1952, and Cold War efforts between 1957 and 1964, earning the nickname “The Ship That Would Not Die.”

Yorktown , an aircraft carrier also known as the “Fighting Lady,” played a large role in the World War II offensive in the Pacific between 1943 and 1945, as well as during the Vietnam War between 1965 and 1968. She also rescued the crew and capsule from the Apollo 8 space mission in 1968.

The National Park Service designated both ships as NHLs in 1986, and both continue to serve as museum ships to educate and entertain visitors.

2. St. Philip’s Episcopal Church — Charleston, SC

St. Philip’s represents the oldest congregation in South Carolina and, in fact, the oldest congregation south of Virginia . The original wooden church took shape in 1681 at the current location of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church on Broad and Meeting. The current St. Philip’s is now located on Church Street, a few blocks away, after being damaged in a hurricane and moved.

The rebuilt church features Tuscan porticoes and Roman columns, which contribute to a larger-than-life feeling within the church. The steeple, the last part of the church to be completed in 1850, stands tall enough to be used as a lighthouse that helped guide sailors into Charleson’s harbor until 1915. The church was designated an NHL in 1973 to protect its history and significance.

3. Beaufort Historic District — Beaufort, SC

The second-oldest town in the state, Beaufort took shape on Port Royal Island in 1711. Many of the classic homes here take visitors back in time, before the Civil War. Most residents had already fled by the time Civil War armies reached the town, so they converted the buildings into hospitals, offices, and other useful purposes rather than destroy them. As such, historic Beaufort features breathtaking examples of antebellum construction, with homes designed in Federal, neoclassical, Greek Revival, and Queen Anne styles. Live oak trees hung with Spanish moss add to the atmosphere, as do the many graveyards, chapels, and businesses.

The National Register of Historic Places recognizes both the district as a whole and individual properties, including the Anchorage, the Barnwell-Gough House, Tabby Manse, and more. The district was recognized as an NHL in 1973, with two houses — the Marshlands and the Robert Smalls House — also recognized individually in 1973.

4. Burt-Stark Mansion — Abbeville, SC

The Burt-Stark Mansion goes by multiple other names, including the Armistead Burt House and “The Deathbed of the Confederacy.” This Greek Revival-style home was built in the 1830s and had seven owners before its donation to the Abbeville Historic Preservation Commission. Confederate President Jefferson Davis held his last council of the Civil War in the Burt-Stark Mansion in 1865, where he admitted the Confederacy had lost. After this meeting, the Confederacy dispersed.

The house was named a NHL in 1992 and continues to operate as a museum to the Old South. Period-accurate antiques, furniture, and artifacts fill the home, creating a time capsule for visitors to enjoy.

5. Atalaya and Brookgreen Gardens — Murrells Inlet, SC

Home of America’s first and largest formal sculpture garden, Atalaya and Brookgreen Gardens offer beautiful views for visitors. Atalaya, the expansive home on the property, features Spanish Revival architecture that echoes the styles found in coastal Spain . The house also includes the large studio space used by celebrated sculptor and philanthropist Anna Hyatt Huntington and where she produced much of her art.

Brookgreen Gardens encompasses more than 9,000 acres as a nature preserve, including 550 acres used as sculpture garden that showcases a wide breadth of Huntington’s sculptures alongside those of her contemporaries. The property’s designation as a NHL, which came in 1992, only includes the 550 acres of sculpture garden and the Atalaya buildings.

South Carolina contains many houses, buildings, and properties that contributed to the creation and formation of the United States. While we could only highlight a few here today, there are many more to explore, especially within Charleston. The beautiful historic homes, plantations, churches, and other areas help remind us of our history and commemorate our past in a way worth celebrating. Thankfully, projects like the National Historic Landmark program aim to preserve these places for all to learn from and enjoy.

The exhibition details his early life and immigration to America, his first store in Hollywood in 1923 and his return to Florence where everything is made today. Ferragamo’s creations are presented not only to highlight their value as works of art but to show their creator’s skills as an entrepreneur and innovator, his passion for color and knowledge of the anatomy of the human skeleton and specifically the foot. The exhibition shows his exploration of new materials and the many sources of inspiration from the art world and ancient and contemporary culture.

It’s no surprise that Nugolo was featured in Stanley Tucci’s CNN series, Searching for Italy because what a delight it is, from its rustic Tuscan farmhouse decor and design with an open-view kitchen, to the stellar menu. The restaurant was founded by Nerina Martinelli, who is keen to preserve the different varieties of produce that are slowly disappearing. Her creative young chefs use seasonal and local ingredients to create imaginative dishes like Agnolotti di ossobuco and Fusilloni infused with black tea from juniper and rabbit ragu. Tasting menus are excellent and good value at 60 euros for five courses or 80 euros for seven.

Il Paglio, Four Seasons Florence

For the ultimate Florentine fine dining experience, Il Palagio at Four Seasons Hotel is incredible in both its setting, on the ground floor of the Palazzo della Gherardesca, surrounded by extensive mature garden and its gourmet menu. The Michelin-starred restaurant offers a la carte or a five or eight course tasting menu. The cuisine focuses on Italian culinary traditions reinterpreted by chef Paolo Lavezzini, who describes himself as “Italian by heart and Brazilian by soul” (he spent many years working in Brazil). Although born in the region of Emilia, Lavezzini’s dishes are Tuscan focused with the occasional Brazilian influence. Highlights include red potato gnocci with seafood, grilled lobster glazed with hazelnuts and cockerel agnolotti with mushrooms. Vegetarians are also well catered for, with their own tasting menu.

Irene at Hotel Savoy features a satisfying mediterranean menu with delicious pasta dishes including long rectangular lasagna. Best known for his two Michelin-starred restaurant Gambero Rosso in San Vincenzo, Fulvio Pierangelini has worked with head chef Giovanni Cosmai and Florence’s best, local suppliers to create a menu based on the Tuscan classics.

For a casual breakfast, lunch or dinner, the bistro Ditta Artigianale is a top choice. Founded in 2013 by Patrick Hoffer and Francesco Sanapo, world-renowned barista and coffee taster champion, the bistro is now in four locations. Satisfying and filling, the menu includes hearty choices like club sandwich, caesar salad and croque monsieur. They also have incredible pastries and breads provided by their onsite bakery. Try the square tiramisu croissant with one of the best cups of coffee in the city.

Also in the San Niccolò area is the excellent Zeb , run by the same family since 1985. Sit at the counter and enjoy delicious Tuscan food and fantastic handmade pasta, carefully prepared by Alberto and his small team. After dining, take a stroll to the lovely rose garden a few streets above, with views of the Arno river.

Mercato Centrale, Florence

Dating back to the nineteenth century and open daily from 9 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Mercato Centrale is a huge fresh food market over two floors, frequented by both locals and tourists, with plenty of tasty Italian dining options too.

It is said that the first in the world to produce real ice cream were the Florentines in the 16th century. Gelato Badiani isn’t that old but it’s been serving some of the city’s best gelato since 1932.

Just outside of the busy center is the Four Seasons , an oasis of calm, located in Florence’s biggest private garden with statues, fountains and contemporary sculptures. The hotel, housed in the magnificent Renaissance Palazzo della Gherardesca, formerly a Medici property, has 116 individually decorated bedrooms with lovely antiques, pictures, silks, velvets and brocades.

Brazil's Lula delays state visit to Chile over historic floods

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday put off a state visit to Chile to focus on the historic floods in the south of the country that have left 147 dead.

The presidency said that the trip would no longer take place as scheduled on May 17 and 18, due to the "need to monitor the situation linked to flooding in Rio Grande do Sul and coordinate aid to the affected population and reconstruction efforts."

Torrential rains since the beginning of the month in the southern state have caused rivers to burst their banks, leaving towns and parts of the bustling state capital Porto Alegre under water.

Around two million people have been affected, more than 600,000 of whom were forced from their homes due to the disaster, which experts attribute to climate change and the El Nino weather phenomenon.

Official figures show that 127 people are still missing.

Fresh downpours over the weekend in the region led rivers to rise once again, raising fears of further flooding and damage.

"The situation will continue to get worse," the state's governor Eduardo Leite wrote on X.
