దొంగతనం నేపథ్యంలో వచ్చే సినిమాలంటే ఇష్టపడనివారు ఉండరు. స్టైలిష్‌గా దొంగతనం చేయడం, పోలీసుల చేజింగ్‌లు ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉంటాయి. బాలీవుడ్‌లో వచ్చిన 'ధూమ్' సిరీస్‌ నుంచి రీసెంట్‌గా హాలీవుడ్‌ వెబ్‌ సిరీస్‌ 'మనీ హీస్ట్‌' వరకు ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉండేది ఈ అంశాలే. ఈ కథాంశంగా ఓటీటీ దిగ్గజం నెట్‌ఫ్లిక్స్‌ భారీ బడ్జెట్‌తో తెరకెక్కించిన చిత్రం 'రెడ్‌ నోటీస్‌'. ది రాక్‌ డ్వేన్‌ జాన్సన్‌, డెడ్‌పూల్‌ ర్యాన్‌ రెనాల్డ్స్‌, వండర్ వుమెన్‌ గాల్‌ గాడోట్‌ వంటి హాలీవుడ్‌ స్టార్‌లతో రూపొందిందీ చిత్రం. 160 మిలియన్‌ డాలర్ల బడ్జెట్‌తో తెరకెక్కిన ఈ చిత్రం మరి ఎంతవరకు సక్సెస్‌ అయిందో చూద్దామా..!

కథ:  ఈజిప్ట్‌ రాణి అయిన క్లియోపాత్ర వివాహానికి తన తండ్రి పెళ్లి బహుమతిగా 3 ఎగ్స్‌ని ఇస్తాడు. కొంత కాలం తర్వాత ఆ 3 ఎగ్స్‌ మూడు  వివిధ ప్రాంతాల్లో ఉంటాయి. ఆ ఎగ్స్‌ను కొట్టేయడానికి ప్రపంచంలోనే అతిపెద్ద ఆర్ట్స్‌ (కళాఖండాలు) దొంగలుగా పేరొందిన బిషప్‌ (గాల్‌ గాడోట్‌), నోలన్‌ బూత్‌ (ర్యాన్‌ రెనాల్డ్‌) ఏ విధంగా కష్టపడ్డారు. ఎలా ఒకరిపై ఒకరు ఎత్తుగడలు వేశారు. వారికి ఎవరెవరూ సహాయం చేశారు.  ఈ దొంగతనాన్ని ఎఫ్‌బీఐ ప్రత్యేక ఏజెంట్‌ జాన్‌ హార్ట్లీ (డ్వేన్‌ జాన్సన్‌) ఎలా అ‍డ్డుకున్నాడు? వారితో ఎందుకు చేతులు కలిపి పని చేయాల్సి వచ్చింది ? అనేదే 'రెడ్ నోటీస్' కథ.

విశ్లేషణ:  

ప్రపంచంలోనే రెండవ అత్యుత్తమ ఆర్ట్స్‌ దొంగ అయిన నోలన్‌ బూత్‌ (ర్యాన్‌ రెనాల్డ్‌)ని పరిచయం చేస్తూ సినిమా ప్రారంభమవుతుంది. సినిమా ప్రారంభంలోనే ర్యాన్‌ రేనాల్డ్స్‌, డ్వేన్‌ జాన్సన్‌ మధ్య మంచి చేజింగ్‌, యాక్షన్ సీన్లు వస్తాయి. ఈ సీన్లతో స్టోరీలోకి నిమగ్నమవుతారు ప్రేక్షకులు. ప్రారంభంలోనే కాకుండా సినిమాలో వచ్చిన యాక్షన్‌ సీన్స్‌, అడ్వెంచర్స్‌ ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. చిత్రాన్ని కేవలం యాక్షన్‌, చేజింగ్‌ సీన్స్‌తోనే కాకుండా కామెడీ ఎంటర్‌టైనర్‌గా కూడా రూపొందించారు డైరెక్టర్‌ రాసన్ మార్షల్‌ థర్బర్‌. ఈ దర్శకుడు ఈజీ ఏ, డ్వేన్‌ జాన్సన్‌తో స్కై స్క్రాపర్‌, డాడ్జ్‌బాల్‌ వంటి సినిమాలను తెరకెక్కించారు. సినిమాను ఏదో కొత్త తరహా అడ్వెంచర్‌గా ఉండదు.  కానీ దొంగతనం నేపథ్యంతోనే యాక్షన్‌, అ‍డ్వెంచర్స్‌తోపాటు కమర్షియల్‌గా తెరకెక్కించారు దర్శకుడు రాసన్. 

సినిమాలో యాక్షన్స్, అడ్వెంచర్స్‌తో పాటు వచ్చే ట్విస్ట్‌లు చాలా ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. సినిమాకు బ్యాక్‌గ్రౌండ్‌ స్కోర్‌ కూడా అద్బుతంగా ఉంది. ముగ్గురు స్టార్‌లను పెట్టి తీసిన డైరెక్టర్‌ మార్షల్‌ నిజంగా సక్సెస్ అయ‍్యారనే చెప్పొచ్చు. గాల్‌ గాడోట్‌, ర్యాన్ రెనాల్డ్స్‌, డ్వేన్‌ జాన‍్సన్‌ ముగ్గురు కనిపించే ప్రతీ ఫ్రేమ్‌ సూపర్‌గా ఉంటుంది. వీరి మధ్య ఉన్న కెమిస్ట్రీ, కోఆర్డీనేషన్‌ అదిరిపోయింది. సినిమా ఆద్యంతం ఈ ముగ్గురు చుట్టే తిరుగుతుంది. అలాగే చిత్రంలోని విజువల్స్‌ చాలా బాగున‍్నాయి. రెడ్‌ నోటీస్‌ నవంబర్ 5న థియేటర్లలో రిలీజ్‌ కాగా, నవంబర్ 12న నెట్‌ఫ్లిక్స్‌లో విడుదలైంది. ఈ చిత్రం చివర్లో సీక్వెల్‌ వచ్చే అవకాశం ఉన్నట్లు కూడా చూపించారు. 

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే..?

ముందుగా ర్యాన్ రెనాల్డ్స్‌ గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటే తనదైనా కామెడీ టైమింగ్‌తో సినిమా మొత్తం ఎంటర్‌టైన్‌ చేస్తాడు. యాక్షన్ సీన్స్‌తోపాటు జైలులో నుంచి తప్పించుకునేందుకే చేసే పనులు ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. తాను ఉన్న ప్రతీ ఫ్రేమ్‌ వినోదభరితంగా ఉంటుంది. సినిమా బోర్‌  కొట‍్టకుండా ఉండేందుకు తను ప్రధాన కారణమని చెప‍్పకతప్పదు. ఇక వండర్‌ వుమెన్‌ గాల్‌ గాడోట్‌ తన అందచందాలతో ప్రేక్షకులను మంత్రముగ్ధుల్ని చేస్తుంది. కేవలం అందంతోనే కాకుండా తెలివైన దొంగగా, యాక్షన్ సీన్లలో అదరగొడుతుంది. గాల్‌ గాడోట్‌పై అంచనాలతో చూస్తే తను మిమ్మల్ని కచ్చితంగా నిరాశపరచదు. ఇక గాల్‌ ఎక్స్‌ప్రెషన్స్‌ గురించి ప్రత్యేకంగా చెప్పాల్సిన అవసరం లేదు. ఈ స్టార్స్‌ ముగ్గురు చేసే యాక్షన్‌ సీన్స్‌ వావ్‌ అనిపిస్తాయి. ది రాక్‌ డ్వేన్‌ జాన్సన్‌పై మాములుగానే ఎన్నో అంచనాలుంటాయి. ఆ అంచనాలకు తగ్గట్టుగా తనదైన సెటిల్డ్‌ పెర్మాఫెన్స్‌ ఇచ్చి ఆకట్టుకున్నారు జాన్సన్‌.  చదవండి:  ఇండియన్‌ ఫుడ్‌ అంటే ఇష్టమంటున్న 'వండర్‌ వుమెన్‌'

Rawson Marshall Thurber ’s “Red Notice” should work on paper. It’s got a charismatic cast sent globe-hopping to beautiful places on a treasure hunt straight out of an “Indiana Jones” movie. How could it go wrong? Well, for starters, Thurber and everyone involved forgot a little thing called personality. Rarely have I seen a movie that feels more processed by a machine, a product for a content algorithm instead of anything approaching artistic intent or even an honest desire to entertain. And while there have been quality blockbusters produced by the Hollywood machine for generations (I miss those days), it feels like we’re increasingly reaching the point where they are so calculated and programmed that the human element is completely drained from them, making them as disposable as a fast food cheeseburger. Worst of all, that “content” approach is pulling the life from stars who have shown so much of it in the past. When the poster for “Red Notice” was released, most people lamented its Photoshopped, bland nature. They didn’t realize how honestly it captured the movie.

Thurber, the director of “ Central Intelligence ” and “ Skyscraper ” (two movies I enjoyed enough on their own terms, for the record), reunites with his muse, Dwayne Johnson , who plays the FBI’s top profiler John Hartley. The film opens with an awkwardly inserted info dump about three coveted eggs that were once the property of Cleopatra. Only two have been discovered, making the missing golden egg into a Holy Grail for treasure hunters, including one of the world’s most notorious criminals Nolan Booth ( Ryan Reynolds ). In the film’s relatively effective opening sequence, Hartley catches Booth trying to steal one of the eggs, inadvertently tying the two for the rest of the film into a classic buddy comedy dynamic—the muscle guy and the fast talker. They battle the authorities, a few bad guys, and another criminal mastermind nicknamed The Bishop ( Gal Gadot ) as they bounce around the world, trying to obtain all three eggs and sell them to the highest bidder.

Films like “ Raiders of the Lost Ark ” and “ National Treasure ” were clear inspirations on “Red Notice” but to say this movies lacks the identity of great action/adventure movies would be an understatement. Thurber’s direction seems to have been simply to put Reynolds, Johnson, and Gadot on camera and allow their screen presence and familiar techniques to carry the story, and one can literally see the weight of that on their shoulders. Johnson has never been this wooden, unable to find the hero or everyman in a non-character. He needs to figure out what's next because he seems to be tired of parts like this one and he's too charismatic to convey tired for the next chapter of his career. Reynolds makes out a little better, but you can almost see him growing weary of his attempts at witty schtick as more of his attempts at humor thud than usual. It feels like everyone thought casting would be all it took to make “Red Notice” charming and then forgot to give their actors charming things to actually do. Oh, there’s a lot of running and a lot of banter, but it starts to blend into cinematic paste.

People have lamented the growing sensation that Netflix increasingly makes product that’s designed to be watched with a phone in your hand, and I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this more strongly than while watching “Red Notice.” Made for $200 million, none of that fortune was spent on anything that retains a human touch—it’s the iPhone app of action movies. Look up and see a beautiful person in a beautiful place running or shooting something—go back to your phone. While there are some truly goofy and yet somehow predictable twists, there’s almost no real story here, certainly not a memorable one. And the settings, while often gorgeous, somehow lack personality too. Even the title sounds like something grabbed out of an Action Movie Screenwriter program.

So much money, so much charm, so much movie, and yet it adds up to so very little. “Red Notice” is as disposable a movie as you’ll see this year, something that most Netflix subscribers will have trouble remembering exists weeks later. It sets up a potential franchise in its final scenes (because of course it does)—let’s hope everyone involved forgets about that too.

Red Notice Review: Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot Are in It for the Money

Netflix’s $200-million franchise starter has three big stars, and nothing else..

Red Notice — out today on Netflix — is officially an action comedy. But it's not good at either of those main ingredients. Mostly, it keeps throwing a series of one-liners without ever committing to its jokes. The Netflix film, written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper), doesn't have a personality — it screams bland actioner for most of its 117-minute runtime. I saw it earlier this week and I've already forgotten most of its action sequences. That's how unmemorable they are. Essentially, Red Notice is a very run-of-the-mill heist movie with little flair and panache of its own. Except that it features three of Hollywood's leading actors stars. And that is the only reason it exists.

Watching the film makes it clear that Red Notice was designed as a star vehicle for Dwayne Johnson , Ryan Reynolds , and Gal Gadot . They know, Netflix knows, and the filmmakers know that audiences are turning up to see their faces, which explains why all three of Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot are less playing characters and more a version of themselves. Reynolds is doing his usual (Deadpool) shtick except in a family-friendly PG-13 manner. Red Notice is extremely family-friendly by the way. Though bullets and explosions pepper the film, there's no blood, injuries, or dead bodies. Johnson is deprived of his trademark smile and eyebrow-raise, and has to settle for a lot of eyerolls in the time he spends with Reynolds. Gadot seems the most herself, and the one having the most fun.

That said, Red Notice is at its best when it's putting the trio in a room — it needed more of that, and better dialogue exchanges to go along with the scenes. But it's such a timid movie. Red Notice plays it absolutely safe, there's no risk-taking or big swings here. It's all about creating a new Netflix IP — that's all Hollywood is looking for these days — and it's not only cynical, but also a waste of money. Netflix spent over $200 million (about Rs. 1,489 crores) on the movie, one of its most expensive of all time. A large chunk of that is salaries. Johnson, Reynolds and Gadot were all paid upwards of $20 million (about Rs. 149 crores). For this ? It's insane.

And though Red Notice does its best to shove its globe-trotting status in your face — from Rome to Bali, Russia to Valencia, Argentina to Cairo, and Sardinia to Paris, the names are spat on screen in big font — it's crazy how small the film feels. That's likely because Red Notice spends so much time indoors. What's the point of going around the world and being on location when you're just …inside?

Dhamaka, Red Notice, Tiger King 2, and More on Netflix India in November

On the face of it, Red Notice has “characters” though they are really window dressing. Johnson plays FBI Special Agent John Hartley who is described as the world's greatest profiler, Reynolds is the world's greatest con-man Nolan Booth, whose status as a renowned art thief is being upstaged by the up-and-coming The Bishop, played by Gadot who doesn't get even a name on-screen forget backstory. Not like the other two fare any better — their character development on Red Notice is basically “daddy issues”. The Netflix film is similarly clunky with its exposition, with its characters providing us with regular information dumps, either talking about themselves, clueing us in on a twist, or walking us through their upcoming plan. It's all very on the nose.

Red Notice has a plot too, though it matters little, as Reynolds himself notes in a fourth wall-breaking MacGuffin comment: an Egyptian billionaire wants the late Egyptian queen Cleopatra's three lost bejewelled eggs — made up, not a real thing — for the wedding of his daughter also named Cleopatra. He's offering hundreds of millions as a reward. Reynolds and Gadot's characters are both after the prize, with Johnson on their tail.

They are also being followed by Inspector Das (Ritu Arya, from The Umbrella Academy ), Interpol's jurisdiction-bursting super cop. But she's got a minor thankless role, as does Silicon Valley 's bro-y douche-y Russ Hanneman — I mean Chris Diamantopoulos, who plays minor villain Sotto Voce. He's stuck with a terrible accent that almost seems like a prank played on him.

Though it's drowned out by the cacophony later, Red Notice does some nice things in the beginning. While Johnson is big and broad, Reynolds is sleek and fleet-footed. This translates to a nice contrast in early action. Reynolds jumps through hoops, manoeuvres around obstacles, and can find his way around without creating a mess unless he wants to. Johnson simply crashes into things with his weight — he's inelegant unlike Reynolds, though gets the job done. Annoyingly, Red Notice forgets to ever use this contrast once this scene is done. Additionally, while there are flashes of comedy during action set-pieces here and there, it's all too generic for the most part.

From Eternals to Red Notice, What to Watch in November

Red Notice desperately wants to be up with the best action movies, but it puts in very little effort. Thurber has nothing to offer here that we haven't seen before a hundred times.

The Chris Hemsworth-led Extraction — another one of Netflix's efforts to have some action flick IPs — might have been similarly poor in the narrative department and in wasting its talented actors, but at least it was committed to delivering action. With 99 million Netflix member households watching Extraction in the first four weeks after release, that was enough to get it a sequel that begins filming later in November, and is scheduled to arrive in April 2023.

Netflix doesn't have a John Wick , Fast & Furious , or Mission: Impossible of its own — and the desperation is palpable. But they haven't all been successful as Extraction in getting a franchise off the ground. It's tried before with Will Smith on Bright , but an immediately-greenlit sequel has yet to materialise four years on. Then there was the Reynolds-led 6 Underground in late 2019, whose sequel was cancelled with Netflix — in a rare admission — noting the film didn't work.

But it's not stopping. In addition to Red Notice which very intentionally leaves room for a sequel, Netflix already has another $200 million action thriller franchise-starter lined up: The Gray Man , with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in the lead, and the directors of Avengers: Endgame at the helm. Gosling is expected to reprise his role in sequels to The Gray Man. Netflix has a lot of cash to throw around, and it will seemingly keep burning tons of it until it strikes gold.

Whether there's a future for Red Notice could depend on how audiences greet it. You would expect it to break Extraction's opening-month record, given the star power attached. But whether it deserves a future is an entirely different debate. For what it is worth, franchises have been turned around in the hands of a better writer and director. Except it's not that simple for Red Notice 2. Johnson is not just one of the three leads, he's also a producer on Red Notice. And as such, he has tremendous control over the direction of the Netflix movie (and potential series).

As his stature in Hollywood has grown, Johnson's circle has become smaller. He has previously worked together with Thurber on two previous occasions: the 2018 action thriller Skyscraper , and the 2016 action-comedy Central Intelligence . He's also worked with Brad Peyton three times, including the 2015 disaster film San Andreas , and the 2018 monster movie Rampage . And the guy who delivered his Disney vehicle Jungle Cruise , Jaume Collet-Serra, has been picked to deliver Johnson's DC debut as Black Adam too. Johnson is clearly working with these directors because he knows he's the bigger authority in the room, more so as producer on all these movies. He's essentially the ghost director.

Vin Diesel Asks Dwayne Johnson to ‘Show Up' for Fast & Furious 10

It's unlikely that Johnson would concede control to an auteur filmmaker. This is partly why Johnson could no longer work on Fast & Furious, I believe. Vin Diesel is the star and producer of that franchise, and there just wasn't room for two of the same. Instead, Johnson has gone and crafted a super-sized version of that all across Hollywood. He's doing more or less the same thing wherever he goes, be it Rampage, Jumanji , or Red Notice — and he hasn't even left Fast & Furious behind entirely, reprising his role in the middling spin-off Hobbs & Shaw which too has a sequel in development.

Most of his films deliver hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, and that's why everyone wants to be in the Johnson business. For Netflix, it's all about the number of subscribers they can pull in (and retain), with the combined might of Deadpool , The Rock, and Wonder Woman . Red Notice is a criminal waste of money and everyone's time — except those who got paid $20 million.

Red is a film that was delayed with its release due to the lockdown. The film has finally released during Sankranthi and let’s now see how the film is.

Ram plays dual roles of Aditya and Siddharth in Red. While Siddharth is an engineer by profession, Aditya is a crook. One fine day, a guy called Akash is killed and Siddharth gets arrested. The twist in the tale arises when Aditya also gets involved in the same case. Who has killed Akash? What is the whole flashback behind this muder? That forms the story?

Plus Points:

As always, Ram does a superb job and in this film, he plays a double role. The variations in both the characters have nicely been showcased by the star hero. But, if you point out, he was good as Siddharth with his cool attitude and looks. Malavika Sharma looks pretty but she does not have much to do in the film.

Sampath is good as the cop and Vennela Kishore evokes some comedy in a few scenes. Comedian Satya is also good in his role. Posani was okay and so was the cop set up in the film.

The second half is tad better when compared to the first. The interval block, confusion in investigation has been nicely showcased in a few scenes. Nivetha Pethuraj is just about okay in her role.

Minus Points:

One of the biggest drawbacks is that the film is not engaging. Right from the first scene, the film is showcased in a dull manner as there is no grip on the proceedings. The investigation looks silly as Nivetha’s role is weak and does not create any impact.

Apart from this, the length of the film is quite slow. The actual story kicks off only during the interval time. Hero has a girlfriend and the cops ignore her in their investigation and this looks silly. Also, there is no clarity why Nivetha helps the hero. There are so many such logics that go for a toss.

Technical Aspects:

Production values of the film are just about okay. The camerawork was good and showcases the film in a good light. Dialogues are impressive and so was the entire setup of the film. Production design is good and so was the BGM by Mani Sharma.

Coming to the director Kishore Tirumala, he has done a dull job with this thriller. His screenplay is weak and does not make the viewer sit with excitement to know who is the killer. He should have taken better actors as cops as the whole film is set in a police station and investigation is priority. But sadly, that does not happen.

On the whole, Red is a suspense thriller that works here and there. The story idea is good and Ram leads from the front with his impressive act. But the screenplay is weak, twists and narration are also jaded making this film a just an okay watch this weekend.

“iSmart Shankar” catapulted Ram Pothineni to the next level as the film brought him closer to mass audiences. “Red”, which is an official remake of a Tamil hit, is his attempt to woo the mass audiences again.

Story: At a posh locality in Vizag, a guy named Akash gets killed. During their investigation, the police find a photograph that shows a person hiding in the building of Akash, on the night of the murder. That person turns out to be Siddharth (Ram), a civil engineer and MD of a construction company. His girlfriend Mahima (Malvika Sharma) went on a trip, and he gets arrested in this case.

Police officer Yamini (Nivetha Pethuraj) takes up the investigation. The twist comes when his look-alike Aditya (Ram Pothineni), a gambler and criminal, gets arrested in a drunk and drive case. Now, police have two suspects – Aditya and Siddharth.

Who murdered Akash and why? What is the connection between these two look-alike persons?

Artistes’ Performances: Ram Pothineni has carried the same look of ‘iSmart Shankar’ for the role of a thug named Aditya. In the role of Siddharth, he looks suave and charming. Ram pulls off the dual role with aplomb.

Malavika Sharma plays the typical girlfriend’s role. Newcomer Amritha Aiyer gets small but a good character. Her role is the best among the three heroines.

Nivetha Pethuraj as a police officer does nothing but mostly standing in one place and doing the investigation. Hers is a stereotypical performance.

For a change, Pavitra Lokesh appears in a negative shade. Satya has nothing much to do. Sonia Aggarwal as the mother is okay. 

Technical Excellence: The film has decent technical values. Mani Sharma’s music is a huge let-down. Sameer Reddy’s cinematography is good. Kishore Tirumala leaves his mark in dialogue writing.

Analysis “Red” is an official remake of the Tamil movie “Thadam”. The film deals with a murder case and two identical twins played by Arun Vijay.

The core idea is taken without tampering for the Telugu version, but director Kishore Tirumala has stretched the plot beyond a point, thereby diluting the impact. A murder mystery works effectively, only when it is narrated in a gripping and crisp manner. 

Kishore Tirumala, who is known for directing soft romantic dramas like “Nenu Shailaja” and “Chitralahari”, has tried to narrate murder mystery in his trademark style, by adding romantic tracks peppered with smart dialogue.

Perhaps to meet the expectations of Ram’s fans, there is unnecessary over-the-top ‘mass orientation’ to Aditya’s character. The body language and dialogue delivery of 'iSmart Shankar' gets repetitive.

The thriller lost its main strength as the second half goes on and on. Plus, the investigative process looks silly and unrealistic. Despite Ram’s sincere effort, “Red” fails to engage. 

All in all, "Red" is another example of a botched up remake.

RED Review – A Dull And Tedious Thriller

What steps does Aditya take to repay the amount? How Siddharth gets entangled in the mess? Did they get out and how it plays out is what the movie is all about?

How Is Ram Pothineni’s Performance? Ram plays a dual role for the first time in his career. The makeover is good, and the styling is done neatly. And this is the best that one can talk about. It doesn’t mean he has done anything wrong, but nothing is new from him except the physical change.

If Siddharth is the typical Ram, then Aditya is the extension of the actor’s personality from Ismart Shankar. So, it is nothing unusual or different from him. He has done everything that needs to be done with sincerity. He is the reason one continues to watch the proceedings even when it is not engaging.

Every successful director develops a strong zone and genre, and not everyone is successful attempting different one’. There is a reason why it is so. When one watches Red, it is easy to understand why.

Red as a thriller offers a decent scope to thrill and has moments story-wise. It is not an original idea and is a remake of Tamil film Thadam. Despite having a blueprint and vision, Kishore Thirumala fails in execution.

It feels as if he didn’t have any interest in remaking the Tamil movie. We can sense that going by how the initial portions of Red take place. There is an urban love story at the start. The director fails in making it engagingly. It is his weakest writing-wise. We are here looking at it purely as a romantic drama, something that the director specialises.

If that is the case executing the parts which belong to Kishore Tirumala’s strength, imagine what happens when the actual content takes place. In the second half, we get a 90’s outdated drama kind of movie instead of a thrilling narrative.

The lack of thrills and the gripping narrative is where Red loses interest. For a thriller, it is sacrilege to have no gripping moment. We get a glimpse of that in the pre-interval and interval period. But, that is short-lived.

The tonal inconsistency is visible right from the start when there is an over the top drama happening at one end, and a romantic drama is taking shape at the other. It gives messy and going through the motions kind of feeling with nothing happening to hold the attention.

The changes brought in to give nativity touch further take away the thrilling factor associated with the narrative and the story. The needless comedy and some miscasting further aggravate the situation which continues that way until the end.

Overall, Red is a thriller with hardly any thrills. Nothing works in the movie except the pre-interval and interval stretch. The director’s inability to provide a gripping and consistent tone is the fault here. If you have seen the original skip Red. If you haven’t, the remake is a below-par thriller.

Malvika and Others?

Malvika Sharma is dull and lifeless lacking any screen presence. It dramatically affects the opening romantic thread.

Nivetha Pethuraj is a miscast entirely. The seriousness of the whole narrative goes for a toss with her presence. It doesn’t help her cause that few other characters are introduced along with her for fun sake. Nivetha and those additions are the primary reason for the dilution of the thrilling bits.

Amrita Aiyer is better among the female leads, but she gets limited screen time. Sampath Raj is loud and boisterous in his typical style. Pavitra Lokesh is wasted in a poorly treated role. Sathya fails to provide fun due to weak punches and writing. Posani and Vennela Kishore make no impact.

— Both Aditya (Ram) and Siddharth (Ram) sharing their childhood and what they had to go through to become what they are toady. The police interrogation is progressing at its own pace.

— RED second half started. Nivetha started to dig deeper into the case.

RED First Half Report:

RED first half is pretty slow. There’s nothing moving in the first hour. The love track and comedian Satya’s comedy tracks are very dull. The movie piques the interest towards the pre-interval. The second half is very crucial.

— CI Samapth Raj has two days to prove who committed the murder between the two suspects (Ram and Ram). Interval.

— Yamini (Nivetha Pethuraj) enters as a cop to investigate a murder. She reports to Sampath Raj. How is it connected to Aaditya (Ram) or Siddharth (Ram)?

— Pavitra Lokesh plays a con woman character who smokes in most of her scenes.

— Ram (Aditya) and Vema (comedian Satya) are struggling to earn money, while other Ram’s (Siddharth) love story with Malvika is progressing.

— Another Ram ( rough guy ) makes his entry, quickly followed by an item song. Ram’s dance is super energetic in this item number.

— RED show started. Engineer Siddharth (Ram) is in love with Mahima (Malavika).

There will be only a few movies that would be coming with a lot of decent buzz that it seems almost the movie is a blockbuster beyond doubt. Ram Pothineni’s RED belongs to that cadre and this movie rightly earned that credit. They waited really long without going for OTT release.

Director Kishore Tirumala’s previous movies with Ram Pothineni and the confidence he earned from Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and the hero are really commendable. Whenever a hero invests so much confidence in a director, it sure adds to the buzz.

The original movie from Tamil was a super hit movie and going by the trailer, it’s understood that they had tweaked the narration a bit and included commercial elements to it to make it commercially more viable for Ram’s market in Telugu.

All in all being a festival release, the audiences are in a mood to welcome every entertainer and watch the movies in theatres after staying at home for such a long period. RED, on the face of it has all the things well set for the theatrical release. Stay tuned for the unbiased RED movie review.
