What is Powtoon and How Can It Be Used for Teaching? Tips and Tricks

Powtoon turns slides into video animations with easy for powerful presentations

Powtoon

Powtoon is a presentation tool designed for both business and school use, based on the idea to take otherwise standard presentation slides and make it more fun and exciting using video animations.

This is a great tool for teachers hoping to engage the class more digitally. But it's also a really powerful way for students to express themselves in a more creative way. The fact they're learning a new tool while doing that is just a useful bonus.

With ready-made templates, online access, and teacher-specific features, this is a very appealing tool. But is it what you need to help your class?

What is Powtoon?

Powtoon takes presentation slides, from the likes of PowerPoint, and allows you to animate it all so that it presents like a video. So rather than clicking through slides, this offers seamless integration with video effects and more to help bring everything to life.

Powtoon

Powtoon comes with a wide selection of templates to get you started, however, it is also full of images and videos that can be used to personalize the end result. The idea being it can be used by teachers and students alike without taking too much time and without a big learning curve.

This can be used in the classroom as well as for remote learning or even as a resource to be shared for viewing outside the class. Perhaps as a way of setting assignments so you have more time free to spend on what you need in the class.

How does Powtoon work?

Powtoon primarily lets you take slides and turn them into rich content video. But it's also possible to work the other way, taking a video and adding more media over the top of that. That could mean teaching a class over video, pre-recorded, which has links to reading, overlaid images you can point to virtually, text on screen, and more.

Once you select the Edit In Studio option you'll be taken into the editing program, right there within your browser. Here you can personalize the project and, ultimately, export as a video file ready to share as you need.

What are the best Powtoon features?

Powtoon is built for class, so it allows students to build a project and then send to the teacher account for review. It can be a useful way to have students build a project to turn in digitally. Or to build to present to the class, but with a teacher there to check over and support the effort ahead of a presentation to the class.

Powtoon

Freedom to edit is fantastic, with the ability to add images, text, animations, stickers, videos, transitions effects, characters, props, borders, and plenty more. It's all available quickly or you can search to find even more options to suit specific needs.

You can also upload your own media, including images, voiceovers, videos, and GIFs to make a project personal. This could be a great opportunity for students to present an experiment or a personal body of work. It also is saved for future use, making it potentially useful revision tool later in the year.

Online storage is available in all plan levels, which can make creating and sharing projects easy without it taking up room on your device. However, video length is limited based on your lan and there are a lot of features that only become available at the more premium tiers. Worth noting in the next section.

How much does Powtoon cost?

Powtoon offers a free trial of a few days but to really get the most out of this platform you'll need to pay. As you go up each tier, the music and objects available become more varied and better.

PowToon Makes It Easy To Create Animated Videos And Slideshows

Have you ever thought about what would happen if it became drastically cheaper, quicker and easier to produce awesome cartoons? I have. And then I discovered PowToon, and their brand new presentation service, #Slides.

There's something special about animation. It has a wonderfully potent ability to capture the attention of people by drawing them in - in a way that the written word, and live action video simply cannot.

There's a reason why some of the longest running TV franchises (with Family Guy, The Simpsons and South Park being three very good examples) are animations. There's something unambiguously magical about the format.

Indeed, as a marketing tool, animation has no equal. Some of the most iconic advertising campaigns have been animations. The problem is that it's remarkably expensive to create compelling animations. You need a team of skilled artists, editors, producers and sound engineers; a massive budget; and a lot of time to create anything worthwhile. Furthermore, if you create a traditional animation, you'll find that your costs increase as the duration of your movie increases.

With that in mind, have you ever thought about what would happen if it became drastically cheaper, quicker and easier to produce awesome cartoons? I have. And then I discovered PowToon , and their brand new presentation service, #Slides [Broken URL Removed].

Meet PowToon

PowToon was founded in 2012 in London by Russian-born entrepreneur Ilya Spitalnik as a way for startups to create compelling animations in the browser, without spending tens of thousands of dollars. This is vital, as many startups operate on wafer thin budgets, and often lack the funds to even pay for a marketing team, let alone for flashy adverts.

And yet, videos are easy to share. People don't tend to 'bounce' from websites when there's a video in the mix. As marketing tools, they're incredibly powerful.

Since the creation of PowToon, millions of people have used it to create beautiful marketing and learning material, without spending a fortune. Indeed, it's possible to create a portfolio of long, HD quality and watermark-free cartoons with a Pro account for just $228 per year. For context, that's less than the cost of a cheap camcorder.

There's also a free plan, if you're so inclined. This produces watermarked videos in standard definition quality. Sadly, they cannot be downloaded. Those signed up to a Pro PowToon plan can download their videos and re-upload them on the likes of YouTube and Vimeo.

For those working in the social media and marketing industries, there's even a plan for agencies. This will set you back just short of $700, and creates videos in full HD quality with third-party transfer and monetization rights.

But are the animations produced any good any good? The following animation was made with PowToon in under two hours - take a look and decide for yourself:

Admittedly, as a medium, animation is a forgiving one. You don't have to worry about shaky cameras or bad lighting. You don't have to worry about unconvincing acting and awkward body language. There's a reason why most of the notoriously bad commercials tend to be live-action ones.

That's where PowToon shines. You don't need to have any real expertise or experience to make something look good. You just need to be able to drag and drop, and know how to structure a narrative. It was for this reason I soon found myself falling in love with PowToon. There was something viscerally intuitive about this service. From the process of signing up, to creating scenes; each step of the PowToon experience had a genuinely intuitive flow about it.

Once you've signed up, you can start creating movies. There are some pre-made animations available for your use, as well as some royalty free music and styles. The free plan gives you ten of each, although as you would expect, if you invest in one of the paid plans, you gain access to more of them. Incorporating them in your animations is a simple matter of dragging and dropping them into your scene.

One thing that impressed me was the staggering number of things that are animatable. Text can be written to the screen word by word, or with an ethereal hand which draws each letter of the phrase to the screen.

There are also shapes, markers, props and transitions available to use, which add a bit of panache to your design. As you would expect, each of these are animatable. In addition, you can also upload your own images and sound assets.

Once you have created your presentation, you can play it in the browser, tweaking things as necessary. All things considered, I found that it is possible to create a simple animation in just a few minutes. But don't just think it's for quick-and-dirty marketing jobs. It's also possible to make something a bit more grandiose and spectacular. The only exponential factor is the time required.

PowToon For Slideshows

Now that you understand what PowToon is all about, it's time to introduce their latest product in the works: PowToon #Slides [Broken URL Removed]. PowToon #Slides is essentially a hybrid of animation software and online slideshow presentation - it offers users the ability to easily add animated scenes, graphs and videos into their presentation, all from within their browsers.

This hasn't been released to the general public yet, although some fortunate individuals have gained early access through a closed beta program. If you're interested in giving #Slides a go, all you have to do is request an invitation here [Broken URL Removed].

I'm betting you've probably used Microsoft PowerPoint. Since its first launch in 1990, it has allowed people to create slideshows by dragging and dropping onto a blank canvas, and building from that. It has became the de-facto tool for creating presentations, despite the fact that most presentations created with PowerPoint are painfully dull. How dull, you ask? Well, there's a phrase - 'PowerPoint Hell' - that has spawned into existence in order to describe those presentations that meander endlessly, reducing the audience to tears in the process. There's little exciting about a PowerPoint presentation.

And then a few years ago Prezi came along. This young upstart makes it easy to create fantastic, animated presentations. In just a few short years, Prezi has gained a massive following, which has resulted in it eating into Microsoft's market share. However, it's still not a perfect solution. Whilst it does make it easy to create interesting, engaging slideshows, it lacks the simplicity and ease of use that Microsoft PowerPoint boasts.

It's also true that some find the scrolling and zooming effects in Prezi nauseating. There's even a word for the motion sickness brought about by the overuse of Prezi's zoom: Prezilepsy.

Both PowerPoint and Prezi are imperfect products, and whilst PowerPoint excels with respect to ease of use, they simply cannot compete with the sheer visual splendor of Prezi. The need for a happy medium between the two has necessitated the creation of a new take at the presentation format which is PowToon #Slides [Broken URL Removed].

As you might expect, #Slides allows users to create beautiful presentations from the comfort of their web browser, whilst retaining the same PowToon feel and aesthetic that we all know and love. But why would you want to create an animation as a presentation? Indeed, this medium breaks from tradition somewhat. Yet, the reasons why PowToon is such a powerful force for creating marketing and promotional videos is just as true for #Slides and presentations.

Simply put, animations are captivating . If you're going on stage, you're going to want to grab the attention of the audience, and if you're presenting on a topic some find to be boring, you will need something that is more powerful than your natural charisma and charm. Animations are remarkably effective at that, and PowToon #Slides make it easy to get people's attention and to make a memorable presentation.

PowToon #Slides gives you a lot to work with, for your presentation. As you would probably expect, everything lives within a beautiful, drag-and-drop interface, allowing you to create a flowing narrative with ease. You can also get your hands on a wealth of royalty-free assets and audio files, much as you can with their flagship animation product, PowToon.

This product is still very much in the formative stages. The pricing model is yet to be finalized, although I wouldn't be surprised if they offer a free version with limitations, along with additional features that can be unlocked for a fee. I do know that PowToon are planning to offer #Slides to teachers working in pre-tertiary education, further cementing their reputation as an essential tool to be found in the classroom.

Right now, it is available to a select number of people by way of a closed beta program. But how can you get your hands on it? Well, just drop your email address right here [Broken URL Removed]. If you are lucky, maybe you'll get sent an invite. You can boost your chances of getting invited to PowToon #Slides by sharing the link with your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus followers.

There's a lot to get enthusiastic with respect to PowToon. Their flagship animation service makes it easy to create gorgeous, enticing marketing and teaching videos, and I'm hugely excited to see what they'll come out with in the future.

If you want to test drive PowToon or register for #Slides through the closed beta, you may do so here [Broken URL Removed].

But what do you reckon? Do you plan to give PowToon a go? Let me know in the comments below.

How To Use Powtoon For Training: Examples and Features

By ELM Learning

Powtoon is an online animated explainer-video-creation platform that can be used for training purposes. It allows users to create engaging, animated videos, or Powtoons, with ease.

The platform offers a wide range of templates and tools that can be used to create customized videos, and the goal of Powtoon is to harness the power of toons to create interactive opportunities for different types of learners.

Whether you’re teaching new employees about your company culture or product, or you’re training customers on how to use your product, here are some tips on how to get the most out of Powtoon for training purposes.

What is Powtoon, exactly?

Powtoon is a user-friendly animation software that helps you create engaging animated videos for your training and eLearning courses. “Powtoons” are videos created with Powtoon’s software; you can easily add characters, props, and scenes to tell your story.

You can also use the Powtoon features to create interactive quizzes, surveys, and polls to collect data from your learners. There are tons of ways to use Powtoon in your school or business, so let’s take a look at how it works.

How does Powtoon work?

Powtoon is an extremely versatile and user-friendly software. It works by allowing users to create “scenes,” which are then strung together to create a complete animation.

Users can either start from scratch or use one of Powtoon’s many templates as a starting point. Once you have your scene, you can add characters, props, and text bubbles—everything you need to create a polished and professional animation.

With Powtoon, you don’t need to be a graphic designer to create thoughtful and engaging content to teach more effectively and communicate your content. The videos you construct are useful tools for learning in many different arenas. Let’s take a look at how Powtoon animation is the new wave of video-based learning and training.

5 ways Powtoon can be used for training

Powtoon animation is a powerful tool for businesses, schools, and organizations to use for training purposes. From new employee onboarding to continuing education for current staff, here are some ways you can use Powtoon in your organization:

1. Create engaging and interactive training modules. Powtoon can be used to create engaging and interactive training modules. This is beneficial because it can help keep employees engaged in the training process. Additionally, using Powtoon can help make complex topics more understandable and easier to learn.

2. Explain company policies. Powtoon can also be used to explain company policies in a fun and engaging way. Since it’s necessary that everyone knows the rules, Powtoon videos can be especially helpful for new employees who may not be familiar with all the company policies.

3. Create safety videos. Another way to use Powtoon is to create safety videos, which can be a fun and interactive way to train employees on how to stay safe while working.

4. Teach new software. If your company is introducing new software, Powtoon can be used to teach employees how to use it. This is a great way to ensure that everyone is up-to-date on the latest tools your company is using.

5. Onboard new employees.: Powtoon features can also be used for onboarding new employees and helping them learn about your company’s culture and values.

These are just some of the ways the Powtoon platform can be a benefit to your organization! It’s important to realize that Powtoon isn’t just for business. You can see a variety of Powtoon examples and their many use cases here .

Powtoon for education

There are a ton of ways to use Powtoon to enhance the learning experience, starting with the most obvious one—using it as an eLearning tool to create engaging, animated lessons.

There are a few key reasons that Powtoon is such an excellent tool for training and education. First, the visuals in an animated video are often more engaging and memorable than in traditional lectures or text-based learning materials. This is especially true for younger learners, who may have shorter attention spans.

Second, animated videos can be used to break down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable pieces. Chunking the information this way makes it easier for learners to understand and retain the information.

Finally, Powtoon offers a variety of features that make creating educational videos easy and fun, such as templates, drag-and-drop tools, and a library of royalty-free images and music.

But there are other equally effective ways you can use Powtoon in the classroom. One way is to use Powtoon as a flipped classroom tool. The flipped classroom model is all about turning the traditional learning method on its head. In a nutshell, it’s about students learning the lesson content at home via an animated video or tutorial (like those you can create with Powtoon) and then using class time to do things like practice, apply what they’ve learned, or get help from the teacher.

The potential is off the charts when it comes to using Powtoon to engage learners of all ages. With the new wave of video and mobile learning , the sky’s the limit with Powtoon.

5 great Powtoon features

With so many amazing features to choose from, it’s hard to pick just five, but here are our favoritePowtoon features:

  • Customizable templates : Powtoon has well over 100 templates that you can use to create your training videos. You can customize the templates to match your brand or style and add your own text, images, and audio.
  • Animated characters : Add some personality to your Powtoon with the huge library of animated characters. You can create your own custom animated characters or use one of Powtoon’s many pre-made character templates. Character animation is a great way to make your video more engaging and fun.
  • Music and sound effects : Make your Powtoon pop with royalty-free music and sound effects. You can either use the built-in library or upload your own.
  • Drag-and-drop interface: Powtoon’s drag-and-drop interface is very user-friendly and intuitive, allowing you to create an animated video in minutes without having to learn any complicated software.
  • Export options : Powtoon offers a lot of different ways to export your final product. You can download it as an MP4, AVI, or even a GIF, which means that you can upload it to YouTube, Vimeo, or any other video-sharing site. Another great aspect of this feature is you can also embed it on your website or blog.

With so many features available and with its user-friendliness, Powtoon can make training a breeze for any company. Now that we’ve discussed Powtoon’s features, let’s look at some recommendations for creating engaging videos.

Tips on how to use Powtoon for training

Powtoon is a great tool for creating engaging animated videos. You can use Powtoon to create training videos for your employees or customers. Here are some tips on how to use Powtoon for training:

Powtoons is Amazing

I have created dozens of videos for internal comms, advertising, recruiting and training. It has made my life so easy and with great reward and outcome.

This is a super simple app to create fun and vibrant communications pieces either with cartoons or video.

I think customer service could be much better. I don't think I've ever gotten ahold of a live person.

I didn't exactly make a total switch because I still need to edit some video before dropping it in to Powtoons, but the functionality of Powtoons and its ability to drag and drop anything into the video at any time is so cool. And it has a huge database of photos, video, and other tidbits.

Not great they say they would be creating new content and we have had the service for 6 months with absolutely no content updates

You can put multiple layers of text on one slide and customize where it will show up.

They have absolutely zero content. They say they have marketing videos but they are only 10 seconds long and random. We no longer use this software.

Reason for choosing PowToon

We ended up purchasing promo as well because promo has a wide range and variety of videos and music that works a lot better than Powtoon. Very disappointed in Powtoon.

Don't Need to Be a Video Production Expert to Make Great Marketing Videos

It has been very positive and was really a self-service platform. I have yet to deal with any person on the customer support side, we purchased the tool and onboarded completely independently and that is a testament to the UX/UI team at Powtoon. It is very straightforward and simple to use right away!

I liked how straightforward the use of the product was. I created 10-12 videos in a two-week span that were all ~60sec animated videos for usage in video advertising. It was very easy to learn, the platform auto-saves your progress so there's no fear of losing information, and it saves your video in whatever format you require. The templates are typically all I needed for videos, so I didn't have to start from scratch on any of my ideas. It has been a good experience and I will use the tool whenever we need to create a quick animated short!

The pricing was a bit confusing. We initially signed up for a base tier where we thought we'd have more functionality based on the description. When we got into the system we realized that immediately we'd need to upgrade from "Lite" to "Professional" in order to get the most out of the system and templates. We needed to remove watermarks and unlock key features, so we jumped to Pro. It wasn't outrageous to jump in price, but it was a snag as we had to get the new cost approved again internally.

We liked a couple of the templates on Powtoon for our initial use case better than the alternative solution we looked at.

Indispensable

I don't like being on camera and this solves that by making entertaining informational educational videos. They're all stored on Powtoon so don't have to store them on my computer.

I've used Powtoon since 2014. It's gotten better because they're always keen on getting feedback and making the product better, and listening to what we want in the software. They have good customer service so problem solving is quick. You can put your videos in folders, which helps when you have so many. I have a teacher package so cheap. You can also make powerpoint/slide shows.

Branding in corner of film and at end, but I get a cheaper deal because of this . Business deals don't have the branding.

I had storage capacity problems on my computer. Videos all stored on Powtoon.

Did the job - but ended on a very poor note

My final experience with them soured me on the product and company and thus I cannot recommend. Pick another animation software where they'll at least respond.

I needed to find software on short order for a volunteer product I was doing. I was able to learn it pretty quickly and product something to help the organization out. It was fairly easy to learn and I was able to make a decent animated video in a weekend.

I hadn't used the software for like 6 months and wasn't sure I'd use again, but missed the window to cancel the renewal until it hit my credit card. I contacted the company right away to explain that I used it just for volunteering and ask for a refund. They could check my history to see I hadn't been using. Not only did they not refund me. They ghosted me. I emailed a second and third time, but they never even answered. As for the product itself, they mixed in elements that were not included on my plan with those that were, requiring me to backtrack in some cases export my video w/o upgrading. Many of the elements were too cartoony for my taste. The export limits were kind of confusing.

I was in a rush and had to make a quick decision.

This software has everything prepared and ready to go, with any type of animated creation it still takes time but having all the tools built-in ready and to hand saves a lot of time and frustration. Creating mini-presentations for young people has been a lot easier since we signed up.

Easy to Start: It only takes me ~20 min to gain basic proficiency and ~60 min to gain advanced proficiency. Time-Saving Templates: It has several templates ready to be used, which saves time. Beautiful built-in assets: Animated avatars, objects, short videos, graphics, audios, etc. Basically anything you could possibly want in a multimedia product--PowToon has it already built-in. Ease of Future Maintenance/Update: The way Powtoon's interface is designed allows for ease of future edits. You can easily swap in/out vectors/audio/texts if your video ever needs an update in the future.

Minor Glitch: Sometimes, objects (vectors, geometric shapes) would move to the wrong place by mouse drags. This is more of a minor nuisance than a real problem. Lack of Audio Editing Feature: It has very little audio-editing capability. Because it has a built-in voice-over recording feature, this feature would be more useful if audio editing ability can be available.

Powtoon has more features than videoscribe.

Fun and easy to use

I am an instructional designer/developer and I use PowToon as part of eLearning courses and to communicate changes to end users. The premade templates make PowToon really easy to use. I find a look I like then modify with my content. Each template has its own music but I may upload my own music and upload images to personalize the video even more. If I have a question, I can chat directly with the support team (and I have had lots of questions). I had some trouble understanding the timing of objects when I first started. (Hint: where the thumbnail displays on the time line has Nothing to do with the exit time) and was frustrated by the lack of technical information about how the product works. This is because they depend on their support team to help users. Generally this is good but I would like to see Some documentation, even if it were just voiceovers on a PowToon to explain something. I found using a PowToon to communicate a recent system change to end users resulted in about a 70% view rate instead of a close to 10% read rate for just an email for a previous communication. I host the video on our SharePoint site and provide a link so it's easy to track the views. I just extended my subscription for another year and look forward to new features, new images, and new templates.

Easy to use, fun. Produces very professional looking videos.

It is difficult to select objects and edit if they overlap. I would like to be able to add tags to the images so I could easily find those I want to use multiple times. When changing the sizes of objects, both the width and height change proportionately. It would be good to be able to change just one, especially boxes.

A Fun and Creative Way to Make Impactful Explainer Videos

Overall, it's a well-run company and the support is excellent. It's a fun product to learn and use and it really allows you to be quite creative in your presentations.

They're continually evolving their product and that's what makes it so great. They keep finding ways to make it faster and easy to make explainer videos. They have an outstanding library of tools and elements you can use to really create outstanding videos. They have excellent templates to start with so you don't have to start with just a blank design canvas. Their support team is outstanding -- definitely one of the best that I've dealt with.

Since I don't use it daily, as I do with other apps, sometimes it takes a while to remember how to do things. You can't always find the design elements you need. It can get quite expensive if you want access to more monthly exports, storage, and customization options.

I love how the presentations are, although it is not as fast to learn how to use it as I expected.

what most took advantage of this application was the use of storyboard because I did not have much knowledge in making animations of this type.

- It has very nice templates and the icons, images and shapes look very modern. - I can use it for free, with some limitations of course. - the elements on the screen are very well organized and have guidelines to correctly place what you want to show. - allows you to share presentations or videos through popular social networks and download them in various formats depending on the type of account, for free accounts you can download it in ppt or pdf format. - It has good tutorials to learn how to use the application and the help center is good. - It allows to choose between several styles of presentations such as: real, infographics, cartoon, whiteboard and modern edge. - The storyboard function is quite useful and practical since it adapts to the type of person who will make the presentation and guides you throughout the process.

- In spite of the tutorials and help it is not so easy to use it the first time, you have to dedicate a considerable time in learning how to make animations, if you are looking for something to make animated videos quickly this application or is for you. - the free account only allows videos or presentations with a maximum duration of 3 minutes and pro and agency accounts are quite expensive. - he does not have options of collaboration with other people for the edition.

A new, creative way to do aid presentations

Great for aiding presentations

PowToon is a great software that one can use to create attractive, creative presentations using cartoon characters. The animations are fun and interesting and the great transitions make it more fun to watch and keeps your audience engaged, A major plus is that the character set is diverse and there are a lot to choose from. There is also lot of support and tutorials online for users to learn from.

Lovely software, but one of the cons that I encountered was that when my projects got too large, its seems to use a lot of CPU power because my computer lags. Another con, for those user who love freebies, the free version has a lot of restrictions.

Good product for beginners

Overall experience is good. It's a good product for beginners.

How easy it is to use the software. It's very simple to add, make edits, and download videos in PowToon.

I wish editing video clips was easier in PowToon. You are required to use the full clip of the video inside of PowToon which is a negative thing, in my opinion.

Fantastic - has helped me connect with customers in an awesome format!

Create products that I can sell that are really fun to create!

My customers are school parents and the cartoon options really grab their attention. I love telling stories through pictures and find it so much easier to put a presentation together on powtoon than any other presentation tool I've used or to write long text.

It's at the top of my budget limit. But the features are all fantastic and they keep rolling out new ones (like square format and mobile optimized) that help me expand my product offerings.

Great Value Product

Really helpful and very versatile. We had a great deal which made it a no brainer.

I like that it has lots of built in templates I can use as starters. I really like the explainer video templates. I use this for marketing, social media, paid campaigns, and internal customer support training.

I wish I could apply branding colors to a template without having to change every element. Then I could flip templates into production-ready products that much faster.

A fun way to get students engaged

I have had my students use PowToons to create a visual representation of text. I have also had them use it as a visual aid for a speech. In both situations, it was very entertaining. The students were engaged completing the assignment and their classmates were engaged when watching their peers present.

I love anything that will grab my students' attention. I especially love it when it's something I can have them use to capture the attention of their classmates. I really like that this is flashy and doesn't require coding or graphic design knowledge to make a fun and professional presentation.

It's hard to explain to students that they can't use everything they can see. I completely understand that a company would want people to see what they could have for a price, but it's frustrating for students to see all of these really cool features and not be able to touch them.

Use Powtoons to create engaging videos

I learned about this program in grad school and I am thankful for it. I have been able to create videos and continue to use them for the past few years. Highly recommend

As an educator, I am constantly trying to engage parents and I often use Powtoons as a way to communicate with them. I have used this program to create videos on introducing them to stress management techniques, how to register for classes, and so much more. These videos are short and engaging for them.

There is a bit of a learning curve when using Powtoons; however, once you get use to it- it's very user friendly!

Very nice tool for creating videos, especially promos for new products or services you market.

A very nice product, especially if you have no idea how to create an animated video, which is a very big thing today. Some of the free features don't cut it, but overall - a very good option to choose for your marketing endeavors.

You can create very engaging videos, with high CTR and nice music to them, a really top-notch experience come to think of it. I used it more than once to produce promo videos with a CTA attached for people to click and go straight to a landing page.

Many aspects of the platform need to be paid for; for example, the "created with Powtoon" thing, which really takes away from the experience. Canva, which is a creation tool, much like Powtoon, offers many aspects without paying for them. Most people don't even know you used Canva, and the Freemium thing is only for premium icons, backgrounds, etc. or for transparency or re-editable PDF.

Tips for Giving a Powerful Interview Presentation

Covid-19 has overturned the hiring process, with most companies opting for virtual interviews rather than face-to-face ones. A recent hiring trend is the emerging popularity of interview presentations among hiring managers. Statistics show that  76% of hiring managers find attracting the right candidates their greatest challenge . So how do you find the right fit for your company among the hundreds of job applications? The best option is to give candidates an opportunity to pitch their skills through a presentation.

From the perspective of a candidate, this is a make-or-break moment. A well-crafted and unique presentation could be the key to landing your dream role, but a shoddy one can easily bring down your chances. If you are reading this, you are most likely looking for tips to create a presentation that will help you stand out from the crowd. You have come to the right place.

Read on for tips to avoid ‘death by powerpoint’ and ace that interview presentation round.

What is an interview presentation?

You probably know what an interview presentation already is. For the unversed, an interview presentation, as the name suggests, is a presentation that has to be put together on a particular topic as part of an interview or recruitment process. An interview presentation could range from being a simple one focused on pitching why you think you would be the best fit for the role to solving a specific business dilemma. In some cases, you may even be expected to create a blind presentation wherein you would only be given a limited amount of time to prepare. However, the expectations for any kind of presentation remain the same.

As mentioned earlier, interview presentations help the employer to find a candidate who stands out from the crowd and also fits into their company culture. It also helps interviewers to assess a wide range of skills such as communication skills, industry knowledge, attention to detail, creativity, organizational skills, ability to engage with the audience, and much more. A successful presentation will put these skills on display and help your potential employer understand if you have what it takes to be a part of their organization.

From doing adequate initial research to nailing the delivery, there are several steps involved in ensuring your presentation goes well.

Researching the Company and the Role

Consider your process of preparing for an interview presentation like that of painting a picture. You will naturally be starting with a blank canvas. Doing proper research about your potential employer and the role that you have been shortlisted for is the first brush stroke toward creating your masterpiece.

Your initial research should be centered around the industry vertical that the company is a part of, the key players in the industry, and the ranking of the company within the industry.

How to:  A simple Google search will help you in finding this information.

Why:  Not only does this help you understand your role in the company better, but it also helps you structure your presentation accordingly. This will also help you to answer any questions that emerge during/after the presentation with much more clarity.

Once you are done with the initial research, the next step is to look further into the company’s core values and mission. Also, look at the company’s past successes and read up on their performance.

How to:  A company’s core values are often stated on its website. If not, take a look at their social media channels. To know more about the company, look at the case studies on its website and the news and PR articles.

Why:  Having a clear understanding of the core values and the current standing of the company not only demonstrates your enthusiasm but also helps you to determine the direction of your presentation.

In some cases, candidates are privy to information regarding who would be part of the interview panel. If you are not, you could figure it out on your own by doing quick research about the team members and who is most likely to be a decision-maker. Either way, ensure that you take a look into their job profiles, their background, and their career progression.

How to:  Most professionals are on platforms like LinkedIn, and you can find relevant information about them there.

Why:  Knowing your audience will help you customize your presentation accordingly and also give you an idea about their expectations.

Planning and Organising Your Content

You have painted the background of your portrait. What next? The next logical step is to plan and organize the content in your presentation. A well-structured presentation is crucial to preventing ‘death by powerpoint’ and nailing the interview. Start by determining what you would like to convey and how you would like to do it. Setting clear objectives will ensure your presentation doesn’t deviate from the topic. Now you are ready to structure the content of your slide deck.

As with most content, your presentation will require an introduction, body, and conclusion.

Introduction:  Keep in mind that you will never get a second chance to make a first impression. The opening of your presentation should hook the audience and intrigue them. However, also be careful not to make it too long and to keep it as short and precise as possible.

Body:  This is where the majority of your content regarding the topic goes in. Try to back up your arguments with statistics or real-life examples to ensure credibility. You could also draw references from the core values of the company, if relevant.

Conclusion:  A conclusion is as important as an introduction. Neatly wrap up what you discussed during the presentation and summarise the main points to jog the memory of your interviewers. You can also use the conclusion to highlight your profile and show them why they should hire you.

Designing your presentation

Humans are visual creatures; we remember 80% of what we see. Paying attention to the visual appeal of your presentation is a great way to engage the audience during your interview.

While designing an engaging presentation, choose a simple template and legible font. But how to stand apart from the rest when everyone shortlisted for the interview is using the same Powerpoint or Google Slides templates? One thing that you could do is to use a free online presentation maker to ensure that yours is unique from the other candidates. These editing tools also offer custom fonts and designs that can’t be found anywhere else, helping you stand out.

Here are a few top tips to keep in mind while designing your presentation for the interview.

Consistency is key:  Try to incorporate the company theme into your presentation. Every company has a different brand identity, and hence it is important to spend some time researching the brand colors, fonts, and imagery they use. Keep it consistent throughout the presentation.

Create visually-appealing slides:  Try to make your slides look aesthetically pleasing but not too crowded with information. Do not shy away from using lots of white space or bullet points. Also, ensure that the text is easy to read and maintain a contrast between the background and the text.

Use high-quality images:  Images act as visual cues and are a great way to draw attention. However, pixelated images will leave a bad taste in the mouths of your interviewers. Thus, always try to use images that have a high resolution.

Use legible font:  While choosing a font for your presentation, use one that is clear and legible. Illegible fonts will make it difficult for the interviewers to read the text on your slides.

Rehearsing and practicing your presentation

Practice indeed makes a man perfect, and it’s a good idea to practice your presentation over and over again. Job interviews are nerve-wracking, and practicing your presentation beforehand will help you gain confidence and avoid  common presentation mistakes . Here are a few tips to keep in mind while rehearsing.

Firstly, practice speaking in front of a mirror so that you can see yourself from the point of view of an interviewer. You can also practice in front of your friends or family to get feedback.

Moreover, remember to time yourself to ensure that you do not exceed the time limit given to you. Running over time doesn’t leave a good impression!

Delivering your presentation

You have come to the end of the process of painting your masterpiece. All that requires now is the pièce de résistance, in other words, the delivery of your stunning presentation. All the work that has gone into creating your presentation would mean nothing if the delivery is not up to the mark. A few tips for nailing a good delivery are:

  • Ensure that you speak slowly and clearly with confident and open body language.
  • Maintain eye contact with the interview panel.
  • Engage with the audience by addressing any questions or concerns that they may have.
