Course Resources @ AUT

What is 'course resources', what are the rules of use, how do i use course resources, what adaptive technologies can help me to use course resources, what te mātāpuna library & learning services are available.

'Course Resources' are the lists of electronic and/or print resources your lecturers share with you for your courses.

Resourcs can be eBooks, journal articles, newspapers articles, webpages, videos, podcasts, blogs or images.

Course Resources lists enable you to:

• access all the resources assigned for your course in one, central, convenient place
• add private study notes and 'read statuses' to resources to keep track of your study
• filter resources by section, type, importance level, read status, and availability
• check the current availability and location of assigned print resources in the Library
• apply a preferred referencing / citation style to resources and export the list
• report broken links to be fixed by librarians

Most resources shared with you through your Course Resources lists are subject to copyright restrictions.

AUT has purchased special licences allowing lecturers to share these resources with you for educational purposes. 

Under these copyright licence rules, students CAN :

• use Adaptive Technologies  to assist engagement with a resource
• use translation software to confirm understanding of a resource

Under these copyright licence rules,   students  CANNOT :

• reproduce, distribute, sell or share copies or access with other people, including on social networking platforms

If you do not follow these rules, you will be breaching copyright, and could face legal and disciplinary action.

Access your course resources lists via the  Course Resources tab  in the navigation menu of your  Canvas  courses

You can apply a combination of filters

Or, use the search bar at the top right of the list, to filter based on specific words or terms

If a resource is available electronically , there will be a 'View Online' button  next to it.

To access the resource, click the 'View Online' button. The resource will open in a new tab.

Note: If you are using an iOS device → Hold down the 'View Online' button then click 'Open in New Tab'

If the online resource is a scan (photocopy) of a print resource, it will have a cover page detailing the rules of use.

If the 'View Online' button causes an error message, or scan's text is not 'highlightable', please Report the link as broken

Note: If you are using an iOS device →  Hold down  the 'View Online' button then click 'View digitisation in a new window'

Click the button ' View Availability ' to view the availability  and location of a print resource in the Library

    Take note of the Campus and Call Number * to find the item on the shelf in the Library

To reserve the item, or have it transferred to your preferred campus*:

•   Click the ' # of Copies Available ' button
•   Click the orange button: ' Request this item '
•   Wait to receive an email notification when the item is ready for pick near the Library help desk

* If the Call Number starts with a 2Hr or 3Day  ,  the item is located in a  Short Loan Collection, and cannot be transferred to another Campus

To add a private Personal Note to a resource for future reference:

•  Type your note in the box, then click Save.  Repeat these steps to  edit or delete the Note.

To add a 'read status ' to a resource on your list:

• Click the circle at the right of the resource
• Select a 'read status' from the list
• The circle will be replaced by the symbol of your selected status
• Click the symbol to change your status at any time

Setting a 'read status' can help you to plan ahead and keep track of your study

If a link to an eResource  on your Course Resources list is not working , let the library know so they can fix it:

•  Click 'Request a response' if you would like to be notified when the link has been fixed
•  Click 'Report'

Please note: Reported broken links are addressed from  8am to 4pm ; Monday to Friday , excluding Public Holidays and Christmas Break. 

• click the  drop down menu 'Citation Style'  at the top left of the list
• American Psychological Association  is usually used at AUT
• NZLSG is unfortunately not available as an option

Always check if a reference is correct before using it

• See Your Library' → Referencing for guidance on styles, and when to use them

• Click the  'View & Export' button at the top right of the list
• Please be aware the list may be altered after you export it!

Assessment results and course grading

Unconfirmed results for the AUT courses you're studying are usually available within two weeks of the end of semester and can be accessed online through Arion.

To view your results in Arion:

• ​Once you log in, click on 'Academic Details' and then 'Assessment Details'
• Your results are not confirmed until they have been approved by the assessment board. Once your results are confirmed, an official results notice will be sent to you via email
• Official results will not be available for students who have outstanding fees or charges owed to AUT

Reconsideration of marked work

You can apply for a reconsideration of your marked work, at the time your work is returned or within the time designated for reconsideration by completing a Reconsideration of Assessment form.

Grading system

The following grading system is used to ​record assessment outcomes for course:

Achievement-based grades

• ​A+  = Pass with High Distinction​ (89.50-100%)
• A  = Pass with Clear Distinction​ (84.50-89.49%)
• A-  = Pass with Distinction​​ (79.50-84.49%)
• B+  = Pass with High Merit (74.50-79.49%)
• B  = Pass with Clear Merit (69.50-74.49%)
• B-  = Pass with Merit (64.50-69.49%)
• C+  = High Pass (59.50-64.49%)
• C  = Clear Pass (54.50-59.49%)
• C-  = Pass (49.50-54.49%)
• D  = Fail (0.00-49.49​%)

Other standard grades used

• W  = Withdrawn
• S  = Aegrotat Pass
• Cr  = Credit for Prior Learning
• DS = Disrupted Study – Fail
• CO  = Conceded Pass
• DNC  = Did Not Complete

Competency-based grades

• M  = Pass with Merit
• P  = Pass
• F  = Fail

Interim grades used

• STC  = Still to Complete
• UX  = Under Examination

DS/DSN-Fail grade for courses

'DS' denotes a student receiving a final grade of 'D' for a course completed during a period of university-wide disrupted study and 'DSN' denotes a student receiving a final grade of 'DNC' for a course completed during a period of university-wide disrupted study. The 'DS' and 'DSN' grades will be excluded from a student’s GPA calculation and may not impact on a student’s progression.

Assessment coversheet templates.

At its meeting of 7 August 2007 the Academic Board approved revised assessment coversheets which require students to specifically acknowledge all assistance received and the nature of that assistance, including any assistance received from paid or unpaid tutors. Two templates are provided – the second one is for use when the assessment task is a group assignment.

The following declaration should be incorporated into all assessment cover sheets in unaltered form. If necessary, additional text may be provided to students to assist with clarification and to suit the intended context (e.g. take home examinations, laboratory experiments, etc). Students must submit a coversheet for all assessment tasks whether submitted on paper or by electronic means.

I don’t know about you, but I’m an expert procrastinator. I pride myself on finding ways to do everything except what I should be doing, especially if it is something I am unsure about, like writing my CV and cover letter. Are you like that?

Don't fret. At AUT the Employability and Careers Team are extremely good at providing lots of support and guidance to help relieve the pressure. There are also many free CV and cover letter resources you can access.

Wherever you are in your job search journey, utilise our free resources and make your CV a portal into an employer’s heart.

• CV and cover letter check-up – get a 10 minute one-on-one appointment with one of our specialists who will give you feedback on your CV.
• CV Drop box – upload your CV online to get feedback from our team within 48 hours.
• CV and cover letter workshop –attend this workshop on how to write a CV, tailor it to the job you’re applying for and market yourself to prospective employers.
• CV templates – download examples to help develop your CV.
• CV resources – learn the tips and tricks to help design and tailor your CV to the position you’re applying for.
