Whether you are celebrating the Easter Bunny, Jesus, or both, Easter is a great time to add some special activities into your homeschool.  I’ve gathered up lots of fun activities that you can try this year for an Easter homeschool activity! You know we love books around here, so I’ve also included a list of Easter books and family devotionals.

Easter Art Activities

This Easter egg painting activity is perfect for little ones. We did this when the girls were little and they loved it. I think I’ll have to do it again with my youngest this year. Resist painting is always a hit with my kiddos, so when I saw this watercolor resist “egg hunt” , I knew they would love it! Just grab a white crayon, draw some easter eggs with fun designs and let your kids “hunt” for the eggs with watercolor paint! These sweet hand sews felt eggs would be a great craft for a beginning sewer!

Books for Easter

Easter is a time when many families like to do a family devotional. Or maybe you just want some fun Easter storybooks about the Easter Bunny! Check out this list of engaging Easter books!

Easter Activities for Math

When you can get your kids up and moving for school I think it always goes better than sitting at a table all day. Fun Learning for Kids had this fun idea to practice addition with an “egg toss” (plastic eggs, don’t worry!) You could also use ping pong balls to do with activity throughout the year. And, you could do multiplication for older kids! Grab those stuffies and a measuring tape and have some fun! This measuring activity from Ellen at What Can We Do with Paper and Glue would be great for upper elementary. If you have sheep or bunny stuffies then even better, but really any stuffies will do. Your children can practice measuring them, creating a table, making a graph, and even sorting them into ranges. So many skills to practice here! Little ones can sort their stuffies from biggest to smallest if they can’t measure yet.

Language Arts Activities for Easter

You can create an Easter themed word search , crossword puzzle , or Easter word scramble ! These Easter writing prompts contain both bible based and secular prompts. This Easter Egg Homophone Game would be perfect for elementary! (Scroll all the way to the bottom to get the download link) Check out this secular Easter word search ! You could write an Easter acrostic poem .

Science Activities for Easter

You can encourage creativity and STEM skills by creating a Easter STEM Kit Basket with these ideas from Little Bins for Little Hands . And she got most of her stuff from the dollar store…yay! If you (or your kids) are into STEM, they’ve got some great ideas on that site, like this paper bag STEM challenge! Check out this Countdown to Easter with STEM Activities – so many ideas! Try this egg drop lesson plan from Northeastern University ! It would be fun to get a group of kids together to do this one! I Game Mom also has some ideas for egg drop experiments . Learn how to turn an ordinary egg into a silver egg ! You can also learn about density and saltwater with this easy experiment. Learn about osmosis with an egg and a little red food coloring. You can also make spider eggs with blueberries! Your kiddos will love these Easter rockets from The STEM Laboratory and this magnetic egg experiment would be great for little ones.

Learn About the History of Easter

Learn about Easter symbols and traditions from around the world from The History Channel. Do you know why Easter is called “Easter” ? Go find out! Discover how different countries celebrate Easter and which country has the largest Easter celebration in the world!

More Fun Easter Themed Homeschool Ideas

Learn all about the Cadbury egg company on their website. Take a Peeps factory tour ! Create your own Easter escape room with these fun puzzle generators! Or grab a premade Easter Escape Room from Etsy. (This one could be for older kiddos – Big Kid Easter Escape Room ) For younger kiddos, this Easter Scavenger Hunt would be fun! Layers of Learning has some fun Easter activity ideas for mostly younger kids. Hip Homeschool Moms has a great list of activities like an Easter Trivia Game and more!

Bible Activities for Easter

I try to generally do activities that don’t require special ingredients because, well, who has time for that, right?! But, this activity from I Can Teach My Child looks so cool and what a great visual presentation of our sins being covered. You will need a few special ingredients ( you can get them here ), but I think it would be totally worth it! Here is a video tutorial that might be helpful.

You can do a countdown to Easter using Resurrection Eggs. You can find ideas and printable pictures to put inside the eggs here. Creative Bible Study also offers some great ideas for Easter lessons on their site including using plastic eggs to talk about Jesus. I haven’t watched the videos, so you might want to preview them if you plan to show them to your kiddos. You could bake some Empty Tomb Ro lls for Easter morning. They look delicious and bring great news! Misty from Year Round Homeschooling has gathered wonderful resources that you can use to create a whole unit study on Easter . There is a list of scriptures to read, videos to watch with your kids, a list of art depicting various Easter scenes, Christian music, craft ideas, printables, and more! Celebrate the empty tomb with this easy watercolor resist activity . Check out this Easter themed Escape Room print-and-go activity from Teachers Pay Teachers. The Homeschool Daily has several great Easter activities and ideas like a negative space cross (my daughter did this in Sunday School several years ago and loved it.), a draw and write sequencing activity, and more. This Empty Tomb Garden would be a fun thing to make! Here is an Easter poem using M&Ms to point to Jesus. Writeshop has four Easter writing prompts about Christ and His resurrection. Or, these 7 Spiritual Writing Prompts for middle and high school would be good, too!

When giving homework, it must always be based on learning goals your students have to reach, just like in your lessons. But it’s sad to see that lots of teachers are using homework as extra lesson time. Of course, as a teacher, you’re on a clock. But that doesn’t mean your students have to suffer from it and keep working on those boring textbooks and worksheets at home.

Consider goals like attitudes, real-life experiences, and practice, physical exercise, social encounters, creative solutions, and philanthropy as crucial as your lesson goals. These are things students don’t just pick up in your classroom. These are things they pick up in life.

In this blog post, I’ll give you some innovative homework ideas that will engage your students more. These alternatives to traditional homework will thereby also teach your students new things that can’t be taught in the classroom. You will find a variety of homework ideas: online and offline.

I will mention homework alternatives for primary school and high school. Some of these ideas can be changed a little bit, so they are the perfect fit for the right audience.

If there aren’t any walking quests in the neighborhood, you could ask your students to create a walking quest like this for their fellow students. What a fun day it will be!

15. Obstacle Quiz

In order for students to answer the questions, they have to run and pass a challenging parkour. This is a fun homework exercise, and in the end, it’s a great lesson starter or lesson end.

Easter is the perfect time to adorn your table with fresh flowers and your best dinnerware. You can also make an easy place setting with a napkin, twine and an egg (you can use a plastic one if you like!).

Just twist the napkin into a long, thin strip and pull around an egg. Tie with twine or a ribbon and place one of these bunnies on each plate. You can go a step further by writing guests' names on the eggs or drawing a bunny face.

Bake Hot Cross Buns

Hot cross buns are baked to celebrate the end of Lent. While they're traditionally enjoyed on Good Friday, these fruit-studded buns are the perfect accompaniment for an Easter breakfast or brunch.

Decorate an Easter Tree

Easter trees are a fun way to adorn your home. There are plenty of decorative trees for sale during this spring season, but you can make your own easily! Nestle branches into a tall vase and adhere brightly colored pompoms or felt balls to the twigs with hot glue. You can even dust these baubles with a bit of glitter.

Dye Deviled Eggs

Don't limit dyeing to eggshells! You can even dye the egg inside to make festive Easter deviled eggs . To dye the eggs, boil and peel the eggs first, then dip the hard-boiled eggs in a food dye bath.

Decorate with Easter Lilies

Make a Lamb Cake

Time to break out your mold! A lamb cake is a traditional Easter dessert that many families consider a tradition. Have everyone participate in making and decorating this cake. Some folks can make the batter while others can frost and others can finish off the creation with colored coconut and jelly beans.

Build a Candy Centerpiece

Take your flower arranging skills to a new level by including Easter candy! This centerpiece is made by nestling two vases together. Between the walls of the vases, you can layer in your favorite holiday treats like jelly beans, Peeps and malted milk eggs. With the candy in place, you can fill the center vase with water and flowers.

Bake Empty Tomb Rolls

These empty tomb rolls, sometimes called resurrection rolls , are the perfect treat to bake up on Easter morning. Marshmallows are wrapped in crescent dough and baked. When baked, the marshmallow melts away leaving an empty space inside these sweet treats.

Play Easter Bingo

If Easter turns out to be a bit too chilly or rainy for outdoor games, try an easy Easter game like bingo. Use jelly beans or small foil-wrapped eggs as markers.

In Bermuda, it's long been tradition to fly a kite on Good Friday. Now, folks elsewhere have caught on to this activity. Flying a kite is a great way to spend some family time outside on Easter (and all spring long).

Decorate Easter Cookies

If your family isn't big on hard-boiled eggs but you can't resist the idea of decorating treats, make a batch of Easter cutout cookies . Be sure to have plenty of royal icing on hand for decorating.

Bake a Traditional Easter Bread

Decorative breads are an important part of many Easter celebrations around the world. Italian Easter bread is braided and baked with colored eggs. You can also try Greek tsoureki , Polish paska or Austrian kugelhopf . These breads are often rich and slightly sweet—ideal to celebrate the end of Lent and the start of springtime.

Take Time to Reminisce

While Easter bonnets may have fallen out of fashion, it's still fun to take a look back at their heyday—and all the fashions of the past. Take a few moments on the holiday to look at old photos or watch old home movies. These vintage Easter memories might inspire a new tradition next year!

Make Baskets for Everyone

Kids don't need to be the only ones who reap the Easter Bunny's benefits this holiday! Make Easter baskets for all your loved ones. While you'll want to stuff youngsters' baskets with candies and toys, you can build grown-up-friendly gift baskets filled with small gifts based on their interests.

Gardeners might appreciate a new pair of gloves and some seeds. Crafters would appreciate a skein of pretty yarn or a new set of calligraphy pens. And when all else fails, everyone loves Easter candy and treats!

Imaginative activities and projects to pack your students' summer holidays with creativity

Bonus: Homework for teachers. Take some time over the summer to look after your own wellbeing (although maybe wait until just before the new term starts!) with these Dreamachine Teacher Wellbeing CPD videos and creative activities .

1. Dreamachine Resources At Home Pack

Print off the entire pack or just one or two from this collection of activities from the Dreamachine Schools resources, specially picked out for families at home. They include science, global citizenship and wellbeing activities suitable for all ages, but will need adults to support the delivery as they are written in a lesson plan style. The activities include an interactive science survey into the senses: Life’s Big Questions – with videos to watch presented by Newsround’s Martin Dougan and fun illusions to try out.

2. British Science Week Activity Packs

For child-facing activities that are print off and go try this year’s British Science Week activity packs , which include a Dreamachine optical illusion challenge.

3. Summer Reading Challenge 2022

This year’s summer reading challenge is online and even if your school didn’t sign—up, children can still register to join in online and get books form the library: www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

You could print out this resource from StoryTrails and Unboxed Learning , with lots of ideas for storytelling.

4. The Poetry Society and Stemettes About Us Competition

About Us is all about exploring the many ways life across the universe is connected. Young people aged 4-18 can enter their poems and/ or Scratch projects on the theme of ‘connectivity and the universe‘, to win books and tech goodies, talent development opportunities, and free workshops for their school. All entrants will receive an e-certificate for participating and the competition closes on 31 August 2022. www.aboutus.earth/about-the-competition

5. Teaching for Creativity Taster Cards

Our Teaching for Creativity Taster Card activities are short and simple so could easily be facilitated by a parent or carer!

6. Keep an alternative journal

Document your summer break in a diary, but try to do it without writing a word! Create a scrapbook (or box!) of your summer, to remind you of what you did and how you felt. Try to include something for every week, but you can include as many entries as you like. How many different types of entries can you do? Some ideas are:

• Draw or paint a picture of what you did
• Draw the weather that day
• Close your eyes and draw how you feel
• Take a photo
• Collect a memento e.g. a ticket, a receipt, a food packet, newspaper, a leaf, a stone
• Draw a list of the music you listened to / books you read / games you played
• Make a collage of something you are looking forward to
• Make a picture of the tastiest food you ate – try using something unusual in a collage like pasta, lentils or cut up food packaging
• Listen to the noises outside and draw what you think you can hear

7. Design a new invention

Invent something to solve the problem of ____________.

Draw your invention and label it or make a model of it and a short video explaining how it will work. Think about: How does it work? What size will it be if you made it for real? What material is it made of? Where does it get power or energy from to work? What will you call it?

Insert a problem to solve that you think your students will know about / connects to your learning this year or look on www.littleinventors.org/mini-challenges/

Some ideas are: plastic food packaging, ocean pollution, keeping cool in the heatwave, keeping house plants alive, how to stay dry when camping, learning times tables, getting to school on time.

8. Put on an art exhibition

Visit Tate Kids and choose some of the activities to create your own artwork: www.tate.org.uk/kids/make

Once you have enough pieces, stage an art exhibition in your home or garden and invite families and friends. Think about how you want them to feel when they are in the exhibition. Do you want them to feel excited/calm/intrigued or think about issues you care about? How can you display your work to try and achieve this? Take photos and collect some quotes of how they found the experience!

9. Learn some origami

Learn to make something out of origami, the art of paper folding. Maths on Toast have some how-to-videos: www.mathsontoast.org.uk/activity-category/videos/

All you need is some squares of paper – even newspaper will do (an easy way to make a square of paper is to fold one corner over to the bottom edge and then cut along ).

10. Write a cultural review

Write a review of a film/book/computer game/album/podcast /play/day out/experience – anything cultural that interests you! How did it make you feel? What were the best bits? What could improve? What surprised you?

You could provide them with a quick list of family days out (preferably free and local) to spark ideas. If your students are London based, here is a list of some free goings on in the capital to get you started:

Kids Week – throughout August / Theatre - children 17 and under can go to theatre shows for free when accompanied by a full price paying adult.

Brent Biennial 2022: In The House Of My Love (FREE) until 11 September / Art exhibition - artists and community groups whose works explore the many meanings of homemaking.
