A Digital Portfolio

unit 3 digital portfolio assignment 3

Unit introduction

This unit is your chance to show off! A digital portfolio is an exciting onscreen way to showcase your achievements to potential employers or when applying for a course.

It is all about:

● the projects you have created and developed

● your use of communication and presentation skills

● your capabilities and potential.

Digital portfolios can be viewed by anyone with a computer and an internet browser. You will learn how to create a digital portfolio that includes a series of web pages with links to content that you have created. You will learn how to make use of multimedia assets such as images, sound and video to make your portfolio appealing and engaging.

For this unit, your digital portfolio will have a clear purpose and audience to show them who you are and what you are capable of. It should have a structure that is logical and easy to navigate and must be in a format that can be uploaded and viewed on the web.

You should think of your portfolio as a shop window, carefully selecting a range of content including work done on this BTEC course as well as any other appropriate content. Every item should be clearly introduced, explaining why it is included and what it demonstrates to the viewer. Multimedia assets should be used to enhance the experience for the viewer, not as a substitute for good content.

This unit can be used as a synoptic unit to bring together the content of all the optional specialist units in the course. It can be studied alongside the other units and completed at the end of the course.

You want to apply for an IT job when you finish your BTEC course and you’ve heard that a local company, Konnekted, recruits IT apprentices. As part of your job application, you are going to produce a digital portfolio so that the company can see the work that you can produce. You know that potential employers will want to see a range of your work, such as written documents, images (still and moving), audio tracks, programmes and systems that you have created during your course. The range of work you produce will show how suited to the job you are.

You can also include any other relevant activities that you have done, such as other courses or qualifications, activities completed for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, community work you have undertaken and any other achievements, as well as details about yourself.

Your digital portfolio needs to impress the people at Konnekted and, if necessary, other employers, as you are sure that there will be other people applying for the apprentice positions. Therefore, it is important that your portfolio shows that you have all the skills required for the role.

Your digital portfolio will be hosted on a server and employers like Konnekted will be able to access it through a web browser. It will be made up of a number of linked web pages. All of the content will need to be in a format suitable for displaying on the web. The portfolio will have a main page, which the other pages will link to.

You will need to split your portfolio into different sections based on the different content you have created. The portfolio must include work from all your completed units in the course.

By the end of this assignment you will have completed the following:

Comprehensive design document that contains the following.

Description of aim and purpose.

Through -out this unti I found that having to learn new programs and how employers look at you for potential jobs through the work you have produced through education or previous work placements.

I did struggle with having to use WordPress for the first time has I had never heard of it, never mind used it before. Once I got to understand the layout and how to produce a page I was able to work through the unit without any troubles or worry.
