Using copy to engage on social media
Social media is an essential part of marketing. Not only do most companies use social media to connect with their audiences, many are also building out amplification and advocacy programs with their employees to expand their reach. With such broad use, there’s never been a better time to fine-tune your social media copy.
That’s why we’ve included this excellent how-to video by Ashley Faus , Content Strategy Lead at Atlassian, who discusses tips for writing more engaging copy. She provides tangible, hands-on advice for everyone representing a brand on social media, whether you’re handling a brand account or advocating as an employee. What we love about her video is her straightforward, easy-to-follow framework, as well as her friendly on-screen demeanor. With Prezi Video , her content appears next to her on screen, allowing her to maintain eye contact with the audience and use her hands for emphasis throughout the video. The result is a really engaging video, full of smart and usable tips.

How to use Prezi Video for product demos
Traditionally, sales people would travel to demo a physical product in person, but would still fire up a presentation to go into greater detail. Now that most product demonstrations are taking place virtually, the presenter is often relegated to a small window of the screen, which can be a bit underwhelming.
Russell Anderson-Williams , founder of presentation design company The Prezenter, blends the in-person experience and the virtual presentation to demo a product like you’ve never seen before. He uses Prezi Video to handle the physical product and show its details next to him on screen. The greatest part of his demonstration is that neither the presenter nor the product are at a disadvantage – both are important elements of the presentation and both are at the forefront.
Watch Russell’s video here for a great example of a product demo:
Engaging the audience at home
What Bonnie Zix’s video shows is that your online lessons can be fun and educational. Here she teaches her students how to extract DNA from a banana, while keeping the instructions and key information below her on the screen. This makes it easy for students to follow along with her demonstration and take note of important details.
This is a great way to engage students at home. While students would be able to see the demonstration and read information on the whiteboard in person, virtual classrooms are sometimes at a disadvantage. Bonnie’s video takes advantage of Prezi Video’s options to create an experience that’s perhaps even more engaging than being therein person.

Demonstrating and practicing
In a virtual classroom, the time you have with your students is one of the most vital parts of your teaching, but Nucleo’s video uses his time off screen to an advantage. His video teaches students to count eighth-note subdivisions. When he’s first demonstrating the count at the beginning of the video, he appears on screen next to the information. As soon as he wants students to practice the count, he lets his content take over, making it easier for them to focus and perform the count themselves.
Watch Nucleo’s video for a great example of a demonstration and practice lesson:
Grab attention by starting with a story
Elena Valentine starts her presentation with the ultimate attention grabber: a good story. What we love about this opener is that it expertly proves her point that storytelling is a great way to get your audience’s attention and make yourself more relatable. Throughout her video, she discusses the reasons storytelling is effective, shows examples of great storytelling by other presenters, and gives you tips to get started.
Elena is the CEO of the media production company Skill Scout, so she knows a thing or two about engaging content. This video shows off her expert use of color and imagery, and is paced to flow smoothly through the beginning, middle, and end of her presentation.
Discover B2B marketing’s next big role
“If you go back in time and you think about who started innovating first in business, it was the B2B marketers,” notes Carla Johnson , keynote speaker and bestselling author. In her video on innovation and intrapreneurship, Carla speaks directly to the innovator in every B2B marketer. She points out the moments in which B2B marketers have driven change in their industries and have transformed other essential parts of business, such as branding and customer experience.
This is a really effective way to energize her audience and get them excited about learning what they can do to continue spurring innovation. She also uses a bright template and beautiful imagery to keep the audience engaged.
Watch her video for a great example of a conference presentation:
How to get someone to change their mind
“No.” Whether you’re a leader, a parent, a salesperson, or practically anyone else on this planet, you’re probably used to this obstacle of a word by now. And if you’re a reporter like Jessica Marble, it’s an answer you’ll need to learn to overcome.
In this video, Jessica teaches you how to persuade someone to give you something important (such as an interview) when they’re hesitant or resistant. She does a great job detailing how to do this, kicking it off with the three Ps – persistence, politeness, and patience. She also uses a lot of GIFs and animation throughout her video that engage the viewer and make the video more eye-catching. The result is a straightforward video providing the audience with a clear path to follow.
Learn about the three Ps of persuasion and more here:
How to make your Prezi presentations impactful
Joshua Peterse is a specialist at the presentation powerhouse Missing Link who motivates his audience to make better presentations. “It’s time for you to find a way to share your content in a way that’s really interesting, because the truth of the matter is that attention is now a diminishing resource.”
You may think that designing an intricate slide is the best way to grab attention, but your narrative is actually going to do the most effective work. Your presentation design should enhance your narrative, not overwhelm it.
That means you have to rethink the way you design your presentations. As Josh puts it, it’s not that we’re designing slides; “we’re now designing scenes.” To help you get started, he shares six simple examples of scenes, and how to create them in Prezi Video. Watch his video here to check them out:
Presentation mistakes executives and managers make
Boris Hris t ov is the founder of the presentation agency 356labs. As he notes, “virtual meetings and hybrid meetings are here to stay, so our people need to know how to communicate through those channels.” He urges his audience to deliver presentation trainings that take virtual tools into consideration, and teach trainees how to use them in tandem with more traditional presentation skills.
His video dissects common presentation mistakes made by people who need to be good communicators: executives and managers. He does a great job providing details and solutions for each mistake, and makes his presentation easy to follow with bright visuals, a clean template, and subtle animations. He also takes advantage of Prezi Video’s capabilities by going full-screen when he wants to make an important point.
Watch Boris’ video here:
A quick introduction
Professor Robert Morgan provides this introductory video to new students at Washington University in St. Louis. At just over 90 seconds long, he doesn’t have much time to make an impact, but with a simple template, photos, and some fun tips like his favorite spot on campus, he’s able to create an introduction that gets students excited to see their new school.
Video is a great way to engage your students virtually. We love that Robert uses Prezi Video to show his content next to him on screen, perfect for an introduction when students aren’t that familiar with him yet.

There are so many ways to use Prezi Video to create interesting, memorable videos that break through the everyday noise and make a point that sticks with an audience. These are just a few of the best videos we’ve seen this year, but there’s a lot more where these came from. Check out our Video Gallery for more videos, or create your own video today. 8 tips to make the best powerpoint presentations.
Want to make your PowerPoint presentations really shine? Here's how to impress and engage your audience.
Quick Links
Table of contents, start with a goal, less is more, consider your typeface, make bullet points count, limit the use of transitions, skip text where possible, think in color, take a look from the top down, bonus: start with templates.
Slideshows are an intuitive way to share complex ideas with an audience, although they're dull and frustrating when poorly executed. Here are some tips to make your Microsoft PowerPoint presentations sing while avoiding common pitfalls.
It all starts with identifying what we're trying to achieve with the presentation. Is it informative, a showcase of data in an easy-to-understand medium? Or is it more of a pitch, something meant to persuade and convince an audience and lead them to a particular outcome?
It's here where the majority of these presentations go wrong with the inability to identify the talking points that best support our goal. Always start with a goal in mind: to entertain, to inform, or to share data in a way that's easy to understand. Use facts, figures, and images to support your conclusion while keeping structure in mind (Where are we now and where are we going?).
I've found that it's helpful to start with the ending. Once I know how to end a presentation, I know how best to get to that point. I start by identifying the takeaway---that one nugget that I want to implant before thanking everyone for their time---and I work in reverse to figure out how best to get there.
Your mileage, of course, may vary. But it's always going to be a good idea to put in the time in the beginning stages so that you aren't reworking large portions of the presentation later. And that starts with a defined goal.
A slideshow isn't supposed to include everything. It's an introduction to a topic, one that we can elaborate on with speech. Anything unnecessary is a distraction. It makes the presentation less visually appealing and less interesting, and it makes you look bad as a presenter.
This goes for text as well as images. There's nothing worse, in fact, than a series of slides where the presenter just reads them as they appear. Your audience is capable of reading, and chances are they'll be done with the slide, and browsing Reddit, long before you finish. Avoid putting the literal text on the screen, and your audience will thank you.
Related: How to Burn Your PowerPoint to DVD
Right off the bat, we're just going to come out and say that Papyrus and Comic Sans should be banned from all PowerPoint presentations, permanently. Beyond that, it's worth considering the typeface you're using and what it's saying about you, the presenter, and the presentation itself.
Consider choosing readability over aesthetics, and avoid fancy fonts that could prove to be more of a distraction than anything else. A good presentation needs two fonts: a serif and sans-serif. Use one for the headlines and one for body text, lists, and the like. Keep it simple. Veranda, Helvetica, Arial, and even Times New Roman are safe choices. Stick with the classics and it's hard to botch this one too badly.
There reaches a point where bullet points become less of a visual aid and more of a visual examination.
Bullet points should support the speaker, not overwhelm his audience. The best slides have little or no text at all, in fact. As a presenter, it's our job to talk through complex issues, but that doesn't mean that we need to highlight every talking point.
Instead, think about how you can break up large lists into three or four bullet points. Carefully consider whether you need to use more bullet points, or if you can combine multiple topics into a single point instead. And if you can't, remember that there's no one limiting the number of slides you can have in a presentation. It's always possible to break a list of 12 points down into three pages of four points each.
Animation, when used correctly, is a good idea. It breaks up slow-moving parts of a presentation and adds action to elements that require it. But it should be used judiciously.
Adding a transition that wipes left to right between every slide or that animates each bullet point in a list, for example, starts to grow taxing on those forced to endure the presentation. Viewers get bored quickly, and animations that are meant to highlight specific elements quickly become taxing.
That's not to say that you can't use animations and transitions, just that you need to pick your spots. Aim for no more than a handful of these transitions for each presentation. And use them in spots where they'll add to the demonstration, not detract from it.
Sometimes images tell a better story than text can. And as a presenter, your goal is to describe points in detail without making users do a lot of reading. In these cases, a well-designed visual, like a chart, might better convey the information you're trying to share.
The right image adds visual appeal and serves to break up longer, text-heavy sections of the presentation---but only if you're using the right images. A single high-quality image can make all the difference between a success and a dud when you're driving a specific point home.
When considering text, don't think solely in terms of bullet points and paragraphs. Tables, for example, are often unnecessary. Ask yourself whether you could present the same data in a bar or line chart instead.
Color is interesting. It evokes certain feelings and adds visual appeal to your presentation as a whole. Studies show that color also improves interest, comprehension, and retention. It should be a careful consideration, not an afterthought.
You don't have to be a graphic designer to use color well in a presentation. What I do is look for palettes I like, and then find ways to use them in the presentation. There are a number of tools for this, like Adobe Color , Coolors , and ColorHunt , just to name a few. After finding a palette you enjoy, consider how it works with the presentation you're about to give. Pastels, for example, evoke feelings of freedom and light, so they probably aren't the best choice when you're presenting quarterly earnings that missed the mark.
It's also worth mentioning that you don't need to use every color in the palette. Often, you can get by with just two or three, though you should really think through how they all work together and how readable they'll be when layered. A simple rule of thumb here is that contrast is your friend. Dark colors work well on light backgrounds, and light colors work best on dark backgrounds.
Spend some time in the Slide Sorter before you finish your presentation. By clicking the four squares at the bottom left of the presentation, you can take a look at multiple slides at once and consider how each works together. Alternatively, you can click "View" on the ribbon and select "Slide Sorter."
Are you presenting too much text at once? Move an image in. Could a series of slides benefit from a chart or summary before you move on to another point?
It's here that we have the opportunity to view the presentation from beyond the single-slide viewpoint and think in terms of how each slide fits, or if it fits at all. From this view, you can rearrange slides, add additional ones, or delete them entirely if you find that they don't advance the presentation.
The difference between a good presentation and a bad one is really all about preparation and execution. Those that respect the process and plan carefully---not only the presentation as a whole, but each slide within it---are the ones who will succeed.
This brings me to my last (half) point: When in doubt, just buy a template and use it. You can find these all over the web, though Creative Market and GraphicRiver are probably the two most popular marketplaces for this kind of thing. Not all of us are blessed with the skills needed to design and deliver an effective presentation. And while a pre-made PowerPoint template isn't going to make you a better presenter, it will ease the anxiety of creating a visually appealing slide deck.

3. Data visualizations

The reason is that we live in a time where a lot of data is constantly being circulated. The data are the primary quantitative evidence of almost every single business decision.
Best 2021 Ultimate PowerPoint Template: 3D Animation (Version 2)
Another key to winning your audience is a perfect 3D-designed PowerPoint presentation. Whether you’re speaking at a conference, pitching to an investor, or talking about sales projections at a business meeting, this Best 2021 Ultimate PowerPoint Template with 3D style will help you speak attractively to your audience.
Indeed, the 3D design style will be more popular as a graphic design trend today.
Most PowerPoint templates come with dozens of unique slides featuring stylish content designs with paragraphs, icons, and images already arranged in professional layouts. You have to copy and paste your content into the slides to create a beautiful slideshow. You’ll also be able to change colors, place images quickly, and resize graphics in the templates as well. This presentation template also provides business portfolios, mock-up slides, social media slide decks, calendars.
The way you design your PowerPoint slides will play a vital role in the success of your presentation. You need to use the right colors in your slides, structure the content for readability, and visualize data with charts and graphs to deliver a compelling presentation.
Best 2021 Ultimate PowerPoint Template: Gradient Style (Version 3)
The effective use of minimalist design combining with gradient style is the key feature that sets this PowerPoint template apart from the rest. It uses a proper balance of image, text, and space to create each slide look more professional but eye-catching. Plus, you can also easily change colors, resize graphics, and drag and drop images to edit the template.

The template includes unique slides, font icons, and image placeholders for easily replacing the images. It’s perfect for making design portfolios, product presentations, and much more.
Your presentation will likely include data and statistics from different studies, research, and reports. You can use stylish graphs, pie charts, and infographics to visualize the data in your presentations.
Best 2021 Ultimate PowerPoint Template: Geometric (Version 4)
Wandering into an arid, matter-of-fact environment, this “Geometric” template seems perfectly suited for internal corporate presentations. Annual reviews, as you can see in the title slide, reports, budget plans, and so on.
This theme is based on a pitch deck structure. The slides are modern, combining gradients in orange and pink over a dark blue background. It contains geometric shapes to recreate a futuristic look. The low-contrast title typeface has a strong personality and is very readable, perfect for modern slides.
Static PowerPoint templates might work for a presentation you deliver in front of a live audience. But if you have to send over a deck to a customer, slides will bore them to death. And no one will pay attention to your message. We transform your static slides into dynamic, interactive web presentations. And we know they work great! Storydoc pages help our users generate more engagement, close more deals faster, and always stay on brand.
Data visualization is vital for PowerPoint because you can quickly lose your audience, especially if they cannot understand the data that you are showing in your presentation. Data visualization does not need to be stressful or time-consuming. A simple program can be used to create graphs for you, and you can easily add them to your PowerPoint. Data is a great way to provide information and helps your audience understand it.
Best 2021 Ultimate PowerPoint Template: Neumorphism Style (Version 5)
The IT design trend began with Skeuomorphism, followed by Flat design and then Material design. Also, in recent years, Neumorphism designs are emerging. Neumorphism is a new word for a new user interface trend. It’s a hard word to pronounce, so some people also say Soft UI. If so, let’s start with the root of the word “Neumorphic.” It is a combination of two words. Neu and Morphic: Neu: New + Morphic: specific form or shape. For example, this trend design is a soft transition between flat but realistic elements-buttons, cards, input fields, boxes, etc.-and background.
Neumorphism is a design trend that is widely used in web design and especially in user interfaces (UI). Neumorphism is mainly about shadows and 3D effects. It is close to “soft embossing” or “bevel and embosses” special effects.
PowerPoints have been used for many business presentations and data visualization for many years. They are frequently used because they allow a huge amount of data to be shown on one side, and they are easy to use. PowerPoint has received a few upgrades over the years, which increased the number of tools you have access to. These upgrades have allowed photos, videos, and even websites to be displayed in a PowerPoint.
5 Tips for choosing a PowerPoint template
There are many different types of PowerPoint templates on our list. These tips will help you find the best one for your project.
1. Minimal content layout
In general, it’s always best to go with a minimalist content layout for your PowerPoint slide designs, especially when creating professional and business presentations.
With a minimal slide design, you’ll be able to highlight your content in each slide easily. So be sure to pick a template that comes with a clean and simple slide design that gives your content the main spotlight.
2. Multiple color schemes
PowerPoint templates are easily customizable. You can edit the template to change colors as well. But wouldn’t it be easier if a template comes with just the right colors that match your branding?
Thankfully, most premium PowerPoint templates let you choose from multiple color schemes to design a presentation without worrying about customizing the colors quickly.
3. Different design themes
You can’t use the same PowerPoint template for every presentation you make. Even if you buy a template with a multipurpose design, it will only make certain types of presentations.
For example, the PowerPoint template you use to make an annual business meeting presentation can’t be used to create an agency portfolio presentation. Make sure to grab a PowerPoint template with a suitable design theme that matches your brand and presentation.
4. Image placeholders
Images play a major part in every presentation. They not only make your presentation look more visually appealing but also help add context to your messages.
When picking up a PowerPoint template with lots of images, check to see if it’s made with image placeholders so that you can easily remove the dummy content place your photos into the slides without a hassle.
5. Graphs, Charts, and Vector Graphics
Look for a PowerPoint template that comes bundled with editable vector graphics and icon packs to create a more effective presentation.
5 Tips for giving a successful presentation
Designing the slideshow is the easy part. Next comes the presentation. Use these simple tips to deliver a more impactful presentation by using 2021 Ultimate PowerPoint Templates.
1. Leverage storytelling
Storytelling is a great strategy many expert speakers use to grab the audience’s attention and keep their focus throughout the presentation. Just watch a few TED talks, and you’ll notice how they all start with a great story.
You don’t have to share your own stories in each presentation. But, you can leverage some storytelling in your presentation. Whether it’s how you completed a project or even an anecdote is enough to make your presentation more entertaining.
2. Make minimal and simple slides
Don’t create slides that take away too much attention from your presentation. Your main goal is to keep your audience focused on your speech.
Create slides with simple designs and shorter sentences to help deliver your key points more effectively. Use infographics and charts to visualize data and statistics as well.
3. Follow the 10/20/30 rule
Guy Kawasaki, a brilliant marketing expert, introduced a clever presentation. He calls it the 10/20/30 rule . You keep your slideshow limited to 10 slides, last no more than 20 min. He calls it the 10/20/30 rule. Keep the font size to a minimum of 30 points.
This is quite a solid rule to follow. While it may not work for certain types of slideshows, it’s effective for most presentations.
4. Make your objective clear
When you pack so much content and information into a 20-minute presentation, the audience could easily get lost in the beautiful slides and miss out on the essential key points of your speech.
Make sure to clarify your main objectives and key points of the presentation so that the audience can grasp them quickly.
5. Don’t be afraid to improvise
Your audience will react to your presentation in many different ways. You’ll never be able to predict their emotions and reactions. Don’t be afraid to improvise when necessary. Engage with your audience to make your presentation more entertaining.

20 Great Examples of PowerPoint Presentation Design [+ Templates]
Published: January 17, 2024
When it comes to PowerPoint presentation design, there's no shortage of avenues you can take.
While all that choice — colors, formats, visuals, fonts — can feel liberating, it‘s important that you’re careful in your selection as not all design combinations add up to success.
In this blog post, I’m sharing some of my favorite PowerPoint tips and templates to help you nail your next presentation.
Table of Contents
What makes a good PowerPoint presentation?
Powerpoint design ideas, best powerpoint presentation slides, good examples of powerpoint presentation design.
In my opinion, a great PowerPoint presentation gets the point across succinctly while using a design that doesn't detract from it.
Here are some of the elements I like to keep in mind when I’m building my own.
1. Minimal Animations and Transitions
Believe it or not, animations and transitions can take away from your PowerPoint presentation. Why? Well, they distract from the content you worked so hard on.
A good PowerPoint presentation keeps the focus on your argument by keeping animations and transitions to a minimum. I suggest using them tastefully and sparingly to emphasize a point or bring attention to a certain part of an image.
2. Cohesive Color Palette
I like to refresh my memory on color theory when creating a new PowerPoint presentation.
A cohesive color palette uses complementary and analogous colors to draw the audience’s attention and help emphasize certain aspects at the right time.

It‘s impossible for me to tell you the specific design ideas you should go after in your next PowerPoint, because, well, I don’t know what the goal of your presentation is.
Luckily, new versions of PowerPoint actually suggest ideas for you based on the content you're presenting. This can help you keep up with the latest trends in presentation design .
PowerPoint is filled with interesting boilerplate designs you can start with. To find these suggestions, open PowerPoint and click the “Design” tab in your top navigation bar. Then, on the far right side, you'll see the following choices:
This simplistic presentation example employs several different colors and font weights, but instead of coming off as disconnected, the varied colors work with one another to create contrast and call out specific concepts.
What I like: The big, bold numbers help set the reader's expectations, as they clearly signify how far along the viewer is in the list of tips.
10. “Pixar's 22 Rules to Phenomenal Storytelling,” Gavin McMahon
This presentation by Gavin McMahon features color in all the right places. While each of the background images boasts a bright, spotlight-like design, all the characters are intentionally blacked out.
What I like: This helps keep the focus on the tips, while still incorporating visuals. Not to mention, it's still easy for me to identify each character without the details. (I found you on slide eight, Nemo.)
11. “Facebook Engagement and Activity Report,” We Are Social
Here's another great example of data visualization in the wild.
What I like: Rather than displaying numbers and statistics straight up, this presentation calls upon interesting, colorful graphs, and charts to present the information in a way that just makes sense.
12. “The GaryVee Content Model,” Gary Vaynerchuk
This wouldn‘t be a true Gary Vaynerchuk presentation if it wasn’t a little loud, am I right?
What I like: Aside from the fact that I love the eye-catching, bright yellow background, Vaynerchuk does a great job of incorporating screenshots on each slide to create a visual tutorial that coincides with the tips. He also does a great job including a visual table of contents that shows your progress as you go .
13. “20 Tweetable Quotes to Inspire Marketing & Design Creative Genius,” IMPACT Branding & Design
We‘ve all seen our fair share of quote-chronicling presentations but that isn’t to say they were all done well. Often the background images are poor quality, the text is too small, or there isn't enough contrast.
Well, this professional presentation from IMPACT Branding & Design suffers from none of said challenges.
What I like: The colorful filters over each background image create just enough contrast for the quotes to stand out.
14. “The Great State of Design,” Stacy Kvernmo
This presentation offers up a lot of information in a way that doesn't feel overwhelming.
What I like: The contrasting colors create visual interest and “pop,” and the comic images (slides 6 through 12) are used to make the information seem less buttoned-up and overwhelming.
15. “Clickbait: A Guide To Writing Un-Ignorable Headlines,” Ethos3
Not going to lie, it was the title that convinced me to click through to this presentation but the awesome design kept me there once I arrived.
What I like: This simple design adheres to a consistent color pattern and leverages bullet points and varied fonts to break up the text nicely.
16. “Digital Transformation in 50 Soundbites,” Julie Dodd
This design highlights a great alternative to the “text-over-image” display we've grown used to seeing.
What I like: By leveraging a split-screen approach to each presentation slide, Julie Dodd was able to serve up a clean, legible quote without sacrificing the power of a strong visual.
17. “Fix Your Really Bad PowerPoint,” Slide Comet
When you‘re creating a PowerPoint about how everyone’s PowerPoints stink, yours had better be terrific. The one above, based on the ebook by Seth Godin, keeps it simple without boring its audience.
What I like: Its clever combinations of fonts, together with consistent color across each slide, ensure you're neither overwhelmed nor unengaged.
18. “How Google Works,” Eric Schmidt
Simple, clever doodles tell the story of Google in a fun and creative way. This presentation reads almost like a storybook, making it easy to move from one slide to the next.
What I like: This uncluttered approach provides viewers with an easy-to-understand explanation of a complicated topic.
19. “What Really Differentiates the Best Content Marketers From The Rest,” Ross Simmonds
Let‘s be honest: These graphics are hard not to love. I especially appreciate the author’s cartoonified self-portrait that closes out the presentation. Well played, Ross Simmonds.
What I like: Rather than employing the same old stock photos, this unique design serves as a refreshing way to present information that's both valuable and fun.
20. “Be A Great Product Leader,” Adam Nash
This presentation by Adam Nash immediately draws attention by putting the company's logo first — a great move if your company is well known.
What I like: He uses popular images, such as ones of Megatron and Pinocchio, to drive his points home. In the same way, you can take advantage of popular images and media to keep your audience engaged.
PowerPoint Presentation Examples for the Best Slide Presentation
Mastering a PowerPoint presentation begins with the design itself.
Get inspired by my ideas above to create a presentation that engages your audience, builds upon your point, and helps you generate leads for your brand.

Spread the word about this article:
On average a presentation takes up to 20 minutes and experts say we make an impression within the first 30 seconds. That is why it’s important to “dress” our great product/idea with an equally exciting design. Most often, presentations are cooked up by non-designers, which creates a specific need – for powerful presentation software, which can help communicate a message beautifully, effectively, and to suit any user’s skill level. We hand-picked 15 of the best presentation software for 2021 , which will help you create presentations online, share them, while shining in your best light. In the meanwhile, check out some useful ideas tips to spice up your presentations .
A web-based presentation tool, which means you can access your presentations wherever you are, with an internet connection. It is known for its animations, cartoons, and infographics, which help the user to create more interactive presentations and explainer-style videos.
Example by Focusky
Best Features: Very interactive; you can create a unique to your story by combining different “frames” (slides); create your own animations within the presentation Price: Free, but heavily subscription-based Learning curve: Very intuitive, nicely organized by categories, but it would require some time to learn the animation controls Available for: Online Perfect for: Marketing and education
To summarize, this presentation tool is best for marketers and education, where the creator can get the most out of the cool animation and cartoons available. In the last years, there is an increased interest in Powtoon and RenderForest and we expect that more and more people will use them in 2021. No surprise – if you look at our article about Graphic Design Trends in 2022 , everything is moving towards animation, cool 3D-s, cartoons, and illustrations – and these are all things that this software can offer for your presentation.
Prezi is an online presentation software, which resembles a mind map. In comparison, PowerPoint offers a linear way of presenting, whereas Prezi allows you to better show relationships between different elements of your presentation, show details, zoom in and zoom out and show an overall view of your topic. Compared to PowerPoint is more interactive, but with fewer functionalities and a choice of templates.
Example by PreziBase
Best Features: Interactive presentations and interesting transitions, zoom in/out details Price: The very basic features are free, but most of the interesting ones are paid, starting from $3/month and reaching up to $59/month. They offer a free trial. Learning curve: it requires learning and going through a lot of menus and functionalities, similar to PowerPoint Available for: Online / Limited use for iOS and Android (only viewing, not creating and editing) Perfect for: teachers, businesses, more experienced designers, and specific presentations needs, but not recommended for newbies
Prezi is best in showing relationships between different parts of your presentations. There are some challenges in editing, and viewing across devices and its best features are paid for. We recommend it for quick, mind-map-like presentations without the need for ultra-special design.
3. RenderForest Presentation Maker
RenderForest is an online presentation tool, which is famous for its explainer style and whiteboard animations. The presentation templates often offer various motion/video backgrounds, which helps to grab your audience’s attention. Currently, the company is working on releasing its Graphic Design Software, which will allow users to create printables and beautiful designs for social media. This shows that RenderForest’s team knows the market well and does its best to cater to its needs!
Example by Renderforest
Best Features: Video holders with text on shapes, cool transitions Price: There is a free version, the paid ones start at $20.34 per user/month Learning curve: Relatively easy to use, the simple interface helps the user Available for: Online / iOS / Android Perfect for: Education and business
Although not one of the cheapest solutions, it allows you to create engaging and interactive presentations with lots of cool animations. That makes RenderForest a great choice for more educational and marketing explainer-type videos/presentations.
4. Mentimeter
Mentimeter is a very interesting online presentation software. It allows your audience to engage with your presentation in real-time and you can create polls, ask questions, which are then displayed to your presentation. The answers from the audience remain anonymous so people are even more encouraged to participate.
Example by Mentimeter
Best Features: Launch live, interactive polls, surveys, quizzes and create things like word clouds in real-time Price: It has a free version, but the paid plans offer most of the attractive features – the basic plan costs $9.99 per user/month and the more advanced plan is $24.99 per user/month Learning curve: Easy to use; might need to explain to a less tech-savvy audience how to connect to your presentation Available for: Online / Android / iOS Perfect for: Educators, speakers, business and competitions
An excellent choice for educators, speakers, and businesses who want to engage the audience in real-time and display the results immediately. Clean, simple designs, that help you focus on the content.
5. Libre Office Impress
Libre Office is free presentation software, an open-source alternative to PowerPoint. As you can expect from a free product, it offers only the main features of its “big brother”, but it’s a good solution for people used to Microsoft’s productivity suite. The interface is very similar to PowerPoint, which again makes it comfortable to use for a certain audience. Users who need collaboration on presentations, clean interface, and more creative design solutions should steer away from this free presentation software because it will simply not cover their needs.
Example by Theodoros Bousios
Best Features: Free, compatible with older versions (Windows XP for example) Price: Free Learning curve: It will take some time to go through all the options and to get familiar with the interface; Available for: Windows / macOS / Linux / Android / iOS. Perfect for: people who want to use a free product and people with older operation systems
To summarize, Libre is free, compatible with older versions, it can cover your basic needs for a presentation, but the options are too many and available templates too little.
6. Zoho Show
Zoho Show is also an online presentation software, which has a very friendly user interface and great collaboration features. There are many functionalities, which help you create a beautiful design, but require some time and design knowledge to get it right. The premade templates are limited and this presentation software needs an internet connection to be able to edit and present.
Best Features: Live broadcasting a presentation with live chat and commenting Price: Zoho Show is free for personal use. For business users, Zoho Show is included in the Zoho Docs enterprise pricing packages – €5 or €8 per user/month Learning curve: Available for: Online / Android / iOS Perfect for: non-profits, start-ups, personal use, teachers
To summarize, Zoho offers great collaboration features, but you need a connection to edit and present. It is suitable for quick, non-pretentious presentations, where you need some kind of collaboration.
7. ClearSlide Presenter
ClearSlide is a sales engagement platform, including an online presentation tool. Another online tool – SlideRocket, was acquired by ClearSlide and one of the differences is that ClearSlide is more costly and targeted at larger businesses. It’s a great platform for very specific needs – collaborating between sales and marketing teams, to achieve the company’s goals. It’s clear even by the interface:
Best Features: Analytics for costumers’ engagement, video conferencing, screen sharing Price: They offer a free trial and you can see more about the payment plans here. Learning curve: Clear and simple interface, but it requires some time to get used to the tools Available for: Online Perfect for: Sales/business, managers (for coaching); not suitable for newbies, teachers, students
To summarize, ClearSide is perfect for presenting sales pitch , graphics, collaborate in larger teams. It is somehow restrictive for a non-designer because the templates are specific.
8. Piktochart
Piktochart allows you to make infographics, presentations, and printables quickly. Primarily known for its easy customizable infographics, Piktochart also has simple presentation templates and the company is constantly trying to update its library.
Example by Piktochart Knowledge Base
Best Features: Turning data-heavy content into simple visuals; nice transitions between slides Price: There is a free version and a paid one, starting at $29 per user/month. They offer a free trial. Learning curve: It requires time to get used to the options available and to navigate through Available for: Online Perfect for: Designers, teachers; it does not offer collaboration options, which might be needed by teams, students, etc.
Compared to other online presentation software is a bit costly and we could still ask a bit more from the presentation templates. We’d recommend it to someone who often uses infographics and wants to use a single platform to combine the infographics with a presentation. But why not check our free infographics as well?
Slides is online presentation software, initially aimed at developers and covering their presentation needs. Thus said, it does not offer offline editing, but you can present offline, after exporting your presentation.
Best Features: It allows you to use your phone as a remote control; Live Present Mode allows you to control what your audience sees; drop in code, iframes, and SVGs with ease. Price: Free, with paid plans starting at $7.00/month and $14-$18/month for pro and team packages. They offer a free trial. Learning curve: friendly interface, but too many functions and options, which might overwhelm the average user and beginner Available for: Online Perfect for: developers, designers, a little bit too specific for newbies
To summarize, it’s a very cool tool, giving you complete design freedom, but that is also why we do not recommend it to teachers, non-designers, or marketers. Developers and design gurus will love it.
Canva is a web-based solution that started with a mission – to make beautiful designed content available to everyone. The whole platform is organized so that a person without any prior design knowledge can easily create graphs, images, and presentations to impress. Although it is not the best tool for data visualization, it scores high in any other category. Needless to say, it has become a popular choice amongst non-designers.
Best Features: Plenty of beautiful templates to choose from and Canva school has plenty of tutorials and tips for free. It offers more free functionalities compared to other competitors. Price: Free, the offer different subscription plans, starting at $9.95 per user/month Learning curve: Very easy to use, most of the actions can be performed by drag-and-drop Available for: Online / iOS / Android Perfect for: newbies, marketers (who need a unified look across all their social media), non-profits, and teachers
Canva is becoming one of the most popular tools amongst non-designers for creating beautiful unified content. You can create entire presentations, flyers, and other materials with a single drag and drop.
11. Slidebean
Slidebean is the go-to online presentation software for last-minute projects, that look original and professional. Slidebean offers clean and easy-to-use templates and keeps track of your audience’s engagement.
Source Slidebean
Best Features: It allows you to arrange your content with the help of AI, which saves time creating a beautiful layout. You just pick a template, upload content, and let the AI offer you a nice layout. Premade animations, effects, and alignments are automatically applied to your content and create a cohesive look. Price: Free, paid versions starting from $8/month Learning curve: very easy to use since everything is made to fit the premade templates Available for: Windows / Mac / Android / iOS Perfect for: financial, academic, pitch, marketing, sales; everything quick with a clear structure
To summarize, if you are in a hurry, Slidebean will offer several layouts for your slides and speed up the process of creation. The platform targets primarily sales, marketing, and financial fields, and the available templates reflect that.
12. Google Slides
Google Slides is part of the G Suite business application. Its popularity has increased in the last years since it’s a web-based platform, allowing you to store, edit, and share your presentation, without the need of installing presentation software on your computer. All you need is a Google account and you are good to go.
Image by G Suite Updates blog
Best Features: It’s free for personal use, and offers great paid features for business – for example, seamless collaboration and commenting on a presentation, converting other presentations to Google Slides. Some other great features are the wide variety of fonts available (GoogleFonts, not need installing), easy embedding, plus it’s super intuitive and easy to use! Price: It’s free for individual use. For business use, the price starts at $5/user/month and plans of $10 and $25/user/month, for unlimited cloud storage and extra features Learning curve: Simple interface, but it will require some time to pick up. Similar to PowerPoint, only a bit lighter. Available for: Windows / Mac / Online Perfect for: businesses, freelancers, who need a user-friendly app with elementary features; great for collaborating teams, not so perfect for complex designs and tools, required by big enterprises
Perfect for personal use, well synchronized across different devices, similar to PowerPoint. Maybe you are a teacher and you like GoogleSlides because it is free and easy to use? Well, we’ve gathered some awesome FREE GoogleSlides and PowerPoint templates , specially made for education needs.
If you need something along the lines of PowerPoint but need the option for collaboration – a paid plan for GoogleSlides is your go-to choice.
13. Keynote
Keynote is an Apple product, very similar to Google Slides. All you need to do is create an iCloud account (similar to a Google account) and start using Keynote from there. Running Keynote on Windows also requires an internet connection and a modern browser. The latest version can also import and export PowerPoint formats if needed. All this sends Keynote higher in the list regarding the accessibility and shareability of this presentation software.
Best Features: Simplicity of design, great drag and drop functions, polished transitions and animations, easy image editing/cropping; works great with multimedia; design templates with better aesthetic than an average slide deck; Price: Free for macOS and iOS Learning curve: Pretty easy to use for Mac users, a bit of learning curve for users, having experience with other software. Available for: Mac / Windows / Online Perfect for: businesses, marketers, people with not much of a design experience
Bottom line, if you are a Mac user, you love the sleek design and you are looking for cool aesthetics – Keynote is simple to use and free, why not use it?
14. Adobe Spark
Adobe Spark is a web and mobile-based media creation application, which helps you create social graphics, short videos, and web pages. What is immediately noticeable is the clean, crisp, simple, and modern designs, which focus you on the content. If you are looking for a funky, ornate design – Adobe Spark is not the right pick for you.
Example by Cikeys
Best Features: Beautiful templates, user-friendly interface, step-by-step creation, you can add audio to your slides (narrating) Price: There is a free version, the paid on starts at $9.79. The best templates, as with the competitors, are paid. They do not offer a free trial. Learning curve: Easy to use Available for: Online / iOS / Android Perfect for: quick presentations, teachers, basic presentations without jamming them with too much cool stuff.
Adobe Spark eliminates the cluster of design options and leads you step-by-step in creating elegant, simple presentations. Ideal for basic presentations, not the best for sales and marketing.
15. PowerPoint
PowerPoint certainly is a “classic” – it’s has been the most popular tool for creating presentations so far. What first started as a component of the Microsoft Office suite, now has improved shareability and accessibility. It can be used on the web (as part of Office on the web), works with Android, and iOS, and there is a Mobile app, as well as presentation software for mac.
Example by Abris DC
Best Features: Many people are familiar with the software, a wide variety of templates; improved accessibility across platforms; extensive tools and options Price: If you want to enjoy the full features of PowerPoint, you’ll need to subscribe to Microsoft 365 – they have payment plans for personal or business use. The price for personal use starts at $5.99/month or $59.99/year, and business plans start at $12.50 per user/month with an annual commitment. You can find more information here . The mobile applications are completely free to use, of course with some limitations. You can compare the available features across different platforms here. Learning curve: Due to the variety of options and the complexity of the menus, it might take some time to master all of its features. Something that could take a lot of time is editing the text, arranging the visuals, and picking the right transitions – overall, is time-consuming. Still, the interface remained easy to navigate over time and if you trust your design sense, you can achieve satisfying results. Available for: Windows / Mac / Online Perfect for: business, medical, accounting and students; creating concise presentations; but not so suitable for teachers, educators, start-ups and marketers who want to create more interactive and story-based presentations.
To this date, PowerPoint is keeping the lead as the most popular tool for creating presentations. How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”
- Guy Kawasaki
Remember: Less is more.
A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.
- Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
- Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
- Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
- Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.
As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.

The 3 best adjustable beds of 2024
When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more
The best adjustable bed frames are designed to make your transition into restful sleep seamless. The head and foot adjustments put you in a comfortable position for watching TV or reading a book. Many offer a massage function to help soothe your body, while underbed LED lights can gently illuminate the floor if you get up in the middle of the night. USB ports are often nearby for a quick charge if you simply must have screens in bed. Perhaps most importantly, adjustable bases can also help reduce snoring and position your body into a neutral position to offer pressure relief. Today's adjustable bed are compatible with almost all the best mattresses , and many can also fit within the confines of a standard bed frame.
For this guide, I researched and tested several adjustable bed frames. The Purple Premium Plus Smart Base is our top pick because it features three adjustment options, app connectivity, and several massage settings. Alternatively, our budget pick, the Lucid L300 , is easy to assemble and remembers your preferred position but lacks bells and whistles like massaging or under-bed lights.

Our picks of the best adjustable bases:
Best overall: Purple Premium Plus Smart Base - See at Purple
Best budget: Lucid L300 Bed Base - See at Amazon
Best for sleep tracking: Tempur-Pedic Ergo Smart Base - See at Tempur-Pedic
The Purple Premium Plus Smart Base is your best option for an adjustable bed with massaging capabilities, app connectivity, and pillow, head, and foot adjustments.

The Purple Premium Plus Smart Base is our best adjustable bed pick because it features a pillow tilt for optimal head support, programmable presets, and free in-home setup. You can adjust it using the back-lit remote control or the intuitive Purple app, which is available on iOS and Android .
It has four preset positions. TV/PC is the steepest incline of the feet and head, so you can sit up and watch media or work. Lounge has a less harsh incline at the feet and head. I liked this one the most because it kept me comfortable for longer periods and worked well for reading and watching streaming media. Zero Gravity inclines the head and foot slightly with the feet slightly higher to make you feel like you're floating in space. Flat flattens the base for a traditional sleep experience. You can also program the base to remember up to three custom positions. I like that the mattress doesn't shift or cause the split frames to "walk" away from their original position. This is a common problem with adjustable frames.
There are varying intensities of massage and wave massages, or you can target your head or feet. I found the high-intensity massage was relaxing but not particularly powerful. The vibrations were light and relaxing, but there wasn't any kneading or deep tissue work.
The frame has about seven inches of clearance underneath, which you can adjust to 2.5 inches. And, the platform that your mattress will rest on is about 14 inches off the ground (9.5 inches if you choose the lower height option). I chose the maximum clearance and found the under-bed lighting handy when I dropped items and needed help finding them. It can also sit within most bedframes.
If you don't need a bed frame that can massage you, the Lucid L300 Bed Base is an excellent budget option that comes with a 30-day return policy.
- Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Compatible with a variety of mattress types

The Lucid brand regularly pops up in our sleep product guides as a top budget option; the Lucid L300 Bed Base is an example. It costs considerably less than any other adjustable bed frame we considered. Despite its low price, it appears to be a solid option. We say "appears" because we have not had a chance to test it. Fortunately, it's backed by Amazon's 30-day return policy, or 100-nights when purchased directly from Lucid.
In-home setup isn't available, but the L300 is designed with a folding hinge that allows Lucid to ship the base virtually assembled. You just unfold it and install the appropriate hardware, and you're good to go. The company claims this process takes five minutes.
The L300 has both foot and head inclines. You use a wireless remote with a built-in flashlight to adjust the head to angles of 0 to 60 degrees and the foot to 0 to 45 degrees. Plus, you can program the remote to remember your favorite position.
Each side of the frame has two USB charging ports: one for fast charging and the other for regular-speed charging.
The frame accommodates spring, foam, and hybrid mattresses 8 to 12 inches thick. The base holds the mattress in place using metal support bars at the foot of the bed. The base is available in twin XL, full, and queen sizes. The king size is only available directly through Lucid. Amazon shoppers who require a king-size must purchase two twin XL bases; it comes with materials to tether them together or is a great option for split-king designs.
The Lucid L300 is backed by a 10-year warranty.
If you are looking for an adjustable bed frame that provides hard data to guide you in improving your restfulness, consider the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Ergo Smart Base.
- Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Helps neutralize snoring
- Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Tracks your sleep quality
- Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. 25-year limited warranty
- Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Quiet operation
- Check mark icon A check mark. It indicates a confirmation of your intended interaction. Seven different sizes and styles
- con icon Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. Weak massaging
The incorporation of the Sleeptracker-AI app ( iOS and Android ) sets the Tempur-Pedic Ergo Smart Base apart from other adjustable bases. Thanks to sensors installed at the head, the app collects data on air quality, breathing, heart rate, and more. Based on its findings, it tells you how restful your sleep is and offers recommendations to improve it. Tempur-Pedic is constantly updating its technology. The Ergo Smart Base also uses sleep data to assess when you are snoring and automatically adjusts the base to a position that will help alleviate it. It also incorporates a smart alarm feature that gently vibrates the bed to wake you when you're in light sleep close to your designated wake-up time.
In addition to the anti-snore quiet mode mentioned above, it has a "zero gravity" preset that elevates the legs and torso. I regularly turned to this preset when reading or streaming in bed. It's relaxing for those long binge sessions.
The Ergo Smart Base offers several massaging programs but isn't strong even on the highest setting. However, I tested it with the hefty 157-pound Tempur-Pedic PRObreeze mattress , which may have dampened the massaging abilities of the base. On the plus side, whether massaging or adjusting positions, the frame moves smoothly and quietly. My sound meter showed it was no louder than ambient noise. I didn't have connectivity issues in the year or so I slept on it.
I liked that the remote is backlit so it's easy to see what you're doing in the dark. There are also lights underneath the bed, which were helpful when I needed to find something in my bedroom and didn't want to disturb my wife.
Each leg comprises four 3-inch adjustable segments, so you can choose to have 3, 6, 9, or 12 inches of clearance under your bed. Your mattress will rest about 3.5 inches above that.
Tempur-pedic adjustable bases come with a 25-year warranty, the longest of any adjustable bed frame we've tested, and free in-home setup. However, it is not returnable.

What to look for in an adjustable bed frame
Mattress compatibility: Most foam, hybrid, and latex mattresses are compatible with adjustable beds. However, some of the traditional innerspring mattresses are not. Check with the manufacturer of your mattress to find out if your bed is compatible. This info is commonly found in the FAQ section of the manufacturer's website. All of the picks in our best mattress guide are adjustable and bed-compatible.
Size: Your bed frame should be the same size as your mattress. If you're also buying a new mattress and unsure which size to get, check out our mattress size chart for guidance.
Assembly: Adjustable bed frames are heavy pieces of furniture. The models you assemble come with detailed directions, but you may need help lifting the pieces. If putting the frame together sounds intimidating, look for preassembled models or ones with a complementary in-home setup.
Positions: Head and foot adjustments are standard features, but the best adjustable beds also have presets for TV viewing, minimizing snoring, and a zero-gravity feel. Some models even have head-tilt adjustments and programmable positions to get in your favorite position with a single button push.
Additional features: Massage is a standard extra, but we haven't found a bed frame that gives a good massage. USB charging ports are useful for your smart devices, and an under-bed light is nice for finding your way at night or looking for items you dropped. Some may also have connectivity that enables you to use your phone as the remote.
Returns and warranty: While mattresses typically have a 100-night or longer return policy, returns are much less common with adjustable beds. If you're unsure if an adjustable base is right for you, look for one with a return policy or try it in the showroom first. A lengthy warranty is important regardless, as you want to be covered if there are defects. All the picks in our guide have 10-year warranties or longer.
How we tested each adjustable bed frame
I've tested sleep products professionally for six years and have reviewed over 100 mattresses, sheet sets, sleep aids, and more. I put each of the best adjustable beds I received through several tests, and for any highly rated units I have not fully tested firsthand, I extrapolate the key performance indicators based on the reviews of my colleagues and those of other trustworthy product-review websites. The most important adjustable base factors are ease of use, basic performance, and how well special features work.
Here are the main attributes we look for in the best adjustable beds and how we test them:
Ease of use: Sometimes, you're half asleep and want to adjust your bed. Is this achievable with the bed frame ? To assess this, I look at the controller to see if it's backlit and clearly labeled for intuitive control. If available, I also assess the phone app and see if it lets me make adjustments. Many of us would prefer not to have another remote control on our nightstand to keep track of, so we preferred frames that could be controlled with an app on our phone. I also examined the presets and programmable buttons for accurate operation.
Noise: When you adjust in the middle of the night, you don't want to wake your partner, so quiet operation is a must. I tested this by positioning a sound meter 12 inches from the side of the frame and measuring the decibel readout as I moved both the head and foot of the bed. I compared this to the ambient noise (usually around 45 decibels) to assess how loud it gets. I consider the frame quiet if the difference is less than 10 decibels.
Massage intensity: I also measure the loudness and intensity of the massage functions using the same method above. You want a bed to soothe and relax you, but you don't want it to be so loud you can't watch TV. Many manufacturers advertise that their base offers a "deep tissue massage." I have not found one that does that. Instead, the best you can hope for is a good rumble that comes close to making your voice sound weird as you talk. My massage intensity test is somewhat subjective. Fortunately, I can easily compare the frames head-to-head in my lab (i.e., my home).
Special features: Almost all top bases feature USB charging ports and under-bed lights. I also consider unique extras, such as sleep tracking, alarms, speakers, and voice control, and how well they work.
Mattress considerations: First, I examine what mattresses are compatible with the frame. Due to space constraints, this is hard to test firsthand so my assessments are mainly based on a combination of experience and manufacturer recommendations. With the mattress in place, I adjust the frame from flat to maximum foot and head angles several times to see if the mattress or frame move in relation to each other or the floor. This factor is important because constantly readjusting heavy mattresses and frames may be untenable for some.
Additionally, we examine what sizes are available, whether split units allow you to adjust each side of the bed individually, the location and number of adjustable points, the warranty period, the return policy, the availability of showrooms, and whether in-home setup is an option.
Adjustable bed frame FAQs
What are the benefits of an adjustable bed.
Superficially, adjustable beds keep you comfortable sitting up to read or watch TV. They also provide important health benefits for people who snore or have acid reflux.
What is zero gravity?
Many bases offer a "zero gravity" preset that elevates both your head and feet, but the feet are higher than your head. This produced a weightless sensation that helps people with circulation problems and lower back soreness.
Is an adjustable base compatible with standard bed frames?
Yes, usually. If a bed frame can accommodate a mattress and box spring, it's compatible with an adjustable base. You just need to be able to remove any metal or wooden cross slats.
Are massage features really that important?
In our opinion, no. My editor and I have adjustable beds with massage, and we agree the massage function is overrated. I've tested several bed frames that massage, and they're all lackluster. None of them compare to the intensity of the Beyond-Sleep VibraSonic Mattress , which has built-in speakers and an adjustable base.

Best Memory Foam Mattresses for 2024
Memory foam mattresses are both comfortable and supportive. Here are the best memory foam mattresses, tested and reviewed by our sleep experts.
If you're looking for the best memory foam mattress for your bedroom or guest room , you’re in the right place. Memory foam has a lot of variety, which means you have many options. Some feel dense, firm and heavy, while others are plush, cloud-like and light.
When it comes to finding the best memory foam mattress, I test for quality, price, comfort, accommodation and performance using a series of mattress tests . I've likely tested over 50 memory foam mattresses so far. The ones listed below were chosen based on my experience and how well the beds stood out in a sea of options. I've included the top memory foam mattress for side sleepers, budget shoppers and the pick for best memory foam mattress overall.
What's the best memory foam mattress overall?
A look at the Nectar Premier in our test facility.
While all the memory foam beds on our list are good picks, the Nectar Premier mattress wins the best overall title. It's a comfortable memory foam mattress that feels similar to the popular Tempur-Pedic mattress, but it's a lot more affordable. It has a slow-rising feel that gives your curves and joints a little hug, and extra features that help it regulate temperature better than regular memory foam beds.
On this list, you'll find the memory foam mattresses that stood out to me as the most comfortable, most supportive, most accommodating or the most affordable. Here are my picks for the best memory foam mattress options that you can purchase online.

$$$ = Premium: $1,700 and up

Best memory foam mattress overall
Nectar premier.
Why we chose the Nectar Premier : The Nectar Premier made my list of the best memory foam mattresses because it reminds me of a foam TempurPedic mattress; it has that signature memory foam feel, but you won't have to fork out nearly as much cash for it. It has a dense, slow, sink-in memory foam feel that takes a few seconds to activate. Once it does, the gel-infused memory foam starts to hug your body and offers a relieving feel around pressure points like your hips and shoulders.
The Nectar Premier is about 13 inches tall and features what the brand calls "ActiveCool HD" in the center of the bed's top layer where most of your body heat collects. It also has a textured cooling cover for extra heat prevention. I wouldn't say it sleeps cold because of these features, but it does make the Nectar Premier a temperature-neutral memory foam bed.
The Nectar Premier memory foam bed is available in sizes twin to split king, and retail prices range from $1,049 to $2,398. Read our full Nectar Premier mattress review for more.
Editor's note : In April 2022, the US Product Safety Commission issued a recall for Nectar Premier king- and queen-sized mattresses manufactured on Sept. 24 and 27, 2021 because they posed a fire hazard. To find out if your mattress has been recalled, look at the commission's recall notice and this page on the Nectar website.
- Affordable, especially compared to competitors
- Doesn't sleep extra hot like old memory foam beds
- Thicker than many all-foam mattresses
- Available in a hybrid model
- Not ideal for side sleepers who want a plush mattress
- The foam may not be supportive enough for people over 230 pounds
Best flippable memory foam mattress
Why we chose the Layla mattress : It seems the mattress company paid a lot of attention to detail when it came to designing the flippable mattress. If you find you don't think one side fits your sleeping style, all you have to do is flip it around to get a softer or firmer mattress feel. The soft side feels plush and pressure-relieving, so it's great if you're a side sleeper . The flip side doesn't have a true firm profile, but it does keep my back and spine supported when I sleep on my stomach and back. I'd say it's a hair firmer than a medium.
Unlike the Nectar memory foam bed, the Layla mattress feels light and airy. It's a soft memory foam that doesn't provide resistance when you try to switch positions. It's slightly more bouncy than other memory foams, which slowly morph back to shape after a few seconds. It's one of those mattresses that might even appeal to avid memory foam haters because it doesn't give you that "stuck" feel that some people dislike.
The Layla memory foam mattress is available in sizes twin to Cal king, and retail prices range from $749 to $1,249 at full price. Read our full Layla mattress review for more.
- Two firmness options in one mattress
- Accommodates all sleeping positions
- Heavier sleepers may want to consider the Layla Hybrid for more support
Layla Memory Foam
Best affordable memory foam mattress
Bear original mattress.
Why we chose the Bear Original : I was surprised to find out how affordable the Bear Original Mattress was when I first tested it out. It reminded me of the more popular bed-in-a-box mattresses like the Puffy mattress, but it retails for several hundred dollars less. It works great when I'm on my back and stomach, and it's pretty comfy when I'm on my side. If you're a strict side sleeper under 150 pounds, it may be a little too firm.
It's about 10 inches thick and made with three different foam layers. It has a slow-responding feel that appeals to memory foam lovers far and wide. You also have the option to top it with a pretty unusual cover. It's Celliant-infused, which is a special fabric that absorbs your body heat and returns it as infrared energy. You can't see it or feel the material, but it's supposed to improve blood circulation, and in turn, promote muscle recovery and boost energy levels.
Bear mattresses are available in sizes twin to split king, and retail prices range from $748 to $1,690. Read more in our Bear Original mattress review .
- Option to add a special Celliant-infused cover
- Great for most sleeping positions, except petite side sleepers
- A good value
- Not ideal for people over 230 pounds

Bear Original
Best memory foam mattress for back or stomach sleepers
Amerisleep as2.
Why we chose the Amerisleep AS2 mattress: The AS2 memory foam mattress has ideal characteristics that most back and stomach sleepers should look for, such as firmness, support and comfort. The brand's plant-based Bio-Pur foam makes it more breathable and eco-friendly than other memory foam mattresses. As an added plus, the fibers in its Refresh Cover draw heat away from your skin to help keep your body temperature cooler throughout the night.
When I tested out the AS2, my back stayed flat and in a comfortable alignment. My body also stayed more on top of the mattress instead of sinking into the layers as you do with softer memory foam beds. I'd say it has a dense feel similar to the Nectar, but firmer and more responsive. Beds with firm mattress profiles tend to be a sleep haven for back and stomach sleepers because they keep the spine from sinking into the mattress. The AS2 also boasts a durable foam base that prevents the mattress from sagging, making it last longer.
The AS2 is available in sizes twin to split king, and its retail prices range from $1,299 to $2,248. Read our full Amerisleep mattress review for more.
- Eco-friendly memory foam material
- Offers targeted support and pressure relief
- Its Refresh Cover keeps you cooler throughout the night
- Not soft enough for side sleepers
- May not be supportive enough for heavier sleepers
Amerisleep AS2 Mattress
Best luxury memory foam mattress
Saatva loom & leaf.
Why we chose the Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress : Some people just want a memory foam mattress that'll keep them feeling comfy throughout the night. Others want the same mattress they tried that one time on vacation at the Four Seasons. If you're the latter, the Saatva Loom & Leaf looks like a five-star hotel mattress. It doesn't just look the part; it's also really comfortable and won't cost you an arm and a leg.
It has a dense memory foam feel with an extra fluff component thanks to the bed's Euro mattress topper. I tried the "Relaxed Firm" model, which is still on the medium-firm end of the scale, so I imagine the "Firm" model is a true firm mattress. The memory foam and plush Euro top do make the mattress pressure-relieving, but not enough that it's a good mattress for side sleepers . It was just a little too firm when I slept on my side.
Another highlight of the Loom & Leaf memory foam bed is its special cooling tech. The top gel foam layer features a cooling gel mattress pad to help regulate temperature. It's supposedly made from the same material doctors use to treat burn victims in hospitals, so I think it's pretty legitimate.
The Loom & Leaf memory foam mattress is available in sizes twin to split Cal king, and its retail prices range from $1,295 to $3,190.
- Has a special cooling feature to regulate your temperature
- Available in multiple firmness levels
- Accommodates all body types
- Too firm for side sleepers
- Luxury mattress pricing
Best memory foam mattress for hot sleepers
Leesa legend chill hybrid.
Why we chose the Leesa Legend Chill : If you're a hot sleeper, you know the struggle of trying to stay cool or at least temperature-neutral at night. The Leesa Legend Chill is a truly cool-to-the-touch mattress that utilizes cooling fibers in the cover. Under the cover are five other layers, including a quilt foam gel layer, a layer of micro-springs, a comfort foam layer, a zoned support layer of up to 1,032 individually wrapped coils and a final layer of high-density foam.
With the Lessa Legend Chill, you get the comfort of foam and increased airflow due to its structure and materials. We find this mattress to be around a medium or a five on the firmness scale. This firmness is ideal for combination and side sleepers. Back and stomach sleepers who don't need extra support should also find this mattress comfortable. Heavier sleepers may want to look into the Plus Hybrid mattress .
- Unique micro-coil construction for extra support
- Comfortable cover that’s cool to the touch
- Great motion isolation
- Only available in one firmness level
- On the more expensive side
Leesa Legend Chill Mattress
Best memory foam mattress for side sleepers
Why we chose the Puffy Lux : The majority of individuals who sleep on their side are coziest on a soft, plush mattress. One of my favorite soft memory foam mattresses is the 12-inch Puffy Lux, which gives off a light and fluffy vibe just by looking at it. Not only is it big and white like a cloud, but there are quite literally little clouds printed along the machine-washable cover -- a great added touch.
A majority of the beds on this best memory foam mattress list feel dense, but the Puffy Lux is much more airy and light thanks to Puffy's special "Cooling Cloud Foam" in its top layer. I think it has the qualities of polyurethane foam, which is a bit more aerated and light than memory foam. I felt like it was easier to switch positions on this mattress than on other memory foam beds. It's also on the soft side of the firmness spectrum. I think it feels like a medium-soft or around 3-4 on a scale of 10. If you're a side sleeper, I think this bed was meant for you.
Puffy Lux mattresses are available in sizes twin to split king, and retail prices range from $2,249 to $4,789. Like a lot of other mattresses on this list, Puffy runs a lot of promotions to bring the price down by hundreds of dollars. Read more in our Puffy Lux mattress review .
- Its hybrid construction makes it suitable for all body types
- Soft and fluffy feel is great for side sleepers
- Costs more than other memory foam mattresses on our list
- Not firm enough for back or stomach sleepers
Best hybrid memory foam mattress
Dreamcloud hybrid.
Why we chose the DreamCloud Hybrid : DreamCloud is known for its high-end beds you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for. The DreamCloud Hybrid mattress is its entry-level model, but the bed doesn't skip out on luxurious features. This mattress is a thick hybrid bed made with pocketed coils over eight inches tall and reinforced sides for stronger edge support. Stacked on top are layers of comfortable foam, including gel memory foam for temperature regulation.
It's made with gel memory foam, but it doesn't have an overwhelming memory foam feel. This is something I appreciate because it's easier to switch positions on the mattress than it is with dense, slow-responding memory foam beds. The cover is also a bit unique, as it is made with a blend of cashmere that's ultrasoft and luxurious. I don't even own a cashmere sweater, let alone have it in my bed.
I know a few people who sleep on a DreamCloud and they only have positive things to say about the bed and their sleep quality. It's a generally nice mattress at a surprisingly great price. A queen size retails for around $1300, but the brand often has deals and will sometimes throw in a few free accessories.
- Suitable for all body types
- Made with luxurious materials, like cashmere
Other memory foam mattresses we've tested
There are hundreds of mattresses to choose from, but luckily our CNET Sleep editors have been around the bedding block. They have collectively tested over 100 beds, from the most popular to lesser-known models, and have the knowledge to help you pick the best fit for you. The mattresses above are great options, but there are a few more beds we've tested that could have easily made this list.
Lucid 10-inch Memory Foam mattress : Budget shoppers can look into the Lucid Gel Memory foam mattress, a bed sold through Amazon with thousands of positive ratings from users. It's one of the most affordable bed-in-a-box beds I've ever tested, and it's still comfy enough to give you a good night's sleep. You have three firmness options to choose from and six heights.
TempurPedic mattress : You've likely heard about this brand before, as TempurPedic made its name in the mattress industry long before beds ever came to the internet. They offer several mattresses from entry-level to luxury. They also have many cooling memory foam options. They're expensive beds, but you're paying for the trusted brand name and traditional memory foam feel that the brand is known for.
How we test memory foam mattresses
CNET editors choose the products and services we write about based on editorial merit. When you buy through our links, we may get a commission.
During testing, we sleep on the beds and try out all three different sleeping positions : side, back, stomach and combination. We also test for motion isolation, edge support, temperature, comfort and more. We have even cut open a few mattresses to see what the construction is like on the inside.
The best memory foam mattresses are comfortable to switch positions in, offer a pressure-relieving feel, isolate motion and are very accommodating for different sleeping positions. We also take durability into account, considering whether or not it will be long-lasting enough for every body type.

How to choose a memory foam mattress
- Firmness: This should be a main consideration, regardless of the kind of mattress you're buying. Different firmness levels accommodate different sleeping positions. If you're a side sleeper, the best memory foam mattress will feel soft and plush. For stomach and back sleepers, the best memory foam bed is more on the firm side.
- Feel : As I mentioned earlier in this roundup, not every memory foam mattress is built alike. Some memory foam beds feel light and airy, while others feel dense and slow to respond. If you're a combination sleeper, I recommend you go with a light memory foam so it's easy to switch positions. If you like to get really nestled and cozy while you sleep, you may like a dense memory foam mattress better.
- Temperature regulation : One complaint against memory foam is that it retains heat, making sleepers feel hot and uncomfortable while they sleep. Part of it is because of memory foam's dense cell structure and warm air getting trapped inside, as well as the fact that you sleep within the memory foam rather than on top. Look for memory foam with different temperature regulating techniques, such as infused gel, gel beads, infused copper, infused graphite, phase change materials and proprietary technology.
- Price : Memory foam ranges in price, from very cheap (there are $200 memory foam beds out there) to premium and top-tier (Tempur-Pedic mattresses can cost more than $2,000). That means almost anyone can find a memory foam mattress within their budget.
Types of memory foam
Not all memory foam materials are alike. Some are more airy while others are very dense. Some are infused with gel or copper for temperature regulation while others are more traditional.
Traditional : Traditional memory foam is found in older beds like the OG TempurPedic mattresses from the 90s or very cheap memory foam. While it's great and provides pressure relief, it also gets hot because the dense foam traps your body heat inside. If you're a hot sleeper, this is something to consider.
Gel-infused : Don't worry, it's not literal gel you're sleeping on. Gel-infused memory foam often has little blue or green dots infiltrated throughout the foam to help regulate temperature. The gel works to draw heat away from you and more evenly disperse it throughout the bed for a cooling memory foam feel.
Copper-infused : Beds like the Layla mattress are infused with copper gel to work the same way regular gel-infused mattresses do. Copper is a conductor that can absorb heat from your body and distribute it away from your body.
Plant-based : There aren't many plant-based memory foam mattresses on the market. People like Amerisleep use plant-based materials as a substitute for petroleum and manufacture it using a zero-emissions process. This way, the memory foam is more environmentally friendly than most other memory or poly foams.
Proprietary : You will find a ton of different brands using a specific name for their memory foam, such as Puffy's Cloud-Air foam for example. This means the brand put a specific twist on the memory foam to make it more comfortable or more accommodating. The most common types of proprietary memory foams are open-celled for more airflow or gel-infused for cooling abilities.
Who should buy a memory foam mattress?
The best qualities of memory foam are that it's pressure-relieving, stops movement across a mattress and offers a comforting hugging feel. People who will like memory foam beds the most include those who suffer from joint pain, back, side and combination sleepers, couples who share a bed and people who generally like a nestling mattress feel. Side sleepers may also love soft memory foam because of how well it cradles the shoulder and hip joints.
Who shouldn't buy a memory foam mattress?
Memory foam mattresses can sometimes turn people off for several reasons. You shouldn't get a memory foam mattress if you change positions often as the foam can provide some resistance as it's slow to bounce back to shape. It's also not ideal for hot sleepers . Memory foam is a dense material that traps heat more than other foams. Gel memory foam and other tech help it sleep cooler, but people who sleep warm may want to consider a latex mattress because they're so breathable.
Memory foam mattress FAQs
What is the best memory foam mattress.
There are many different memory foam mattresses on the market, but some of the best include Layla, Puffy, Loom & Leaf, Bear, Amerisleep, GhostBed and Nectar.
How long do memory foam mattresses last?
If your memory foam mattress is only made out of foam, it will probably last you around seven years. If it's made with inner springs or coils in the bottom layer, it will last you around 10 years or more. Just make sure you're taking proper care of your mattress, such as rotating it every six months and keeping your bedding clean.
What is the best thickness for a memory foam mattress?
Nine to 10 inches is an ideal thickness for a memory foam mattress that offers ample support, but you can also go even thicker if you're looking for maximum durability and support. Thin memory foam mattresses are OK for the short-term, but may not last as long as you would hope. They tend to be more susceptible to wear and tear, sags and imprints.
Are memory foam mattresses good?
Memory foam mattresses are great at providing pressure relief to your joints because the material gently hugs your curves, but some memory foam beds can give you a sinking feeling that causes resistance when you try to switch positions. If you're a combination sleeper in the market for a memory foam bed, try to find one that's more light and airy so it responds to pressure more quickly.
What are the disadvantages of memory foam mattresses?
Memory foam mattresses trap heat, making hot sleepers even hotter. They also sometimes provide resistance to combination sleepers when they switch positions.

Connecticut joins elite group of best men's NCAA national champs. Who else is on the list?
Connecticut's 75-60 win against Purdue for the men's national championship makes this official: The 2023-24 Huskies are not only the best team in program history but one of the best in recent NCAA history.
It's clear that UConn deserves to be ranked among the upper crust of national champions since the men's tournament expanded in 1985. The Huskies secured a place in this elite group by rolling through this year's tournament to become the eighth program to win back-to-back championships.
They have company from some teams of the recent past. And any list of the best national champions since expansion has to include dominant teams from UNLV, Duke, Kentucky and more.
Here’s how USA TODAY Sports ranks the best of the best from the past 40 seasons of college basketball:
2024 Connecticut (37-3)
Notable players: C Donovan Clingan, G Stephon Castle, G Tristen Newton
What the Huskies did in tournament play boggles the mind. UConn tore through opponents in the East Region, capped by a 25-point win against Illinois in the Elite Eight, and then topped Alabama by 14 points in the national semifinals and Purdue by 15 points on Monday night. This team was dominant from the very first seconds of the regular season and should be listed among the best teams in college basketball history, period.
1990 UNLV (35-5)
Notable players: F Larry Johnson, F Stacey Augmon, G Anderson Hunt
Like the Huskies, UNLV bulldozed every team in tournament play, beating six opponents by a then-record combined 112 points. That includes a 103-73 win against Duke that still stands as the largest margin of victory in the championship game. With NBA players across the board, the Rebels overcame a slow start and won 32 of their final 35 games.
1992 Duke (34-2)
Notable players: C Christian Laettner, G Bobby Hurley, F Grant Hill
The defending champs lost to only North Carolina and Wake Forest in a wire-to-wire run as the No. 1 team in the country. There were a few close calls in the tournament, including that famous Elite Eight win against Kentucky, but this Duke team is the best in school history and one of the best to ever come out of the ACC.
1996 Kentucky (34-2)
Notable players: G Tony Delk, F Antoine Walker, F Walter McCarty
Nine players from this behemoth would go on to play in the NBA, including three who were taken in the first round of the 1996 draft. Delk was the MVP of the tournament, but where the Wildcats stood out was in depth: Rick Pitino built one of the most-loaded rosters of the era, with waves of talent and athleticism designed to leave opponents in the dust. And Kentucky did just that, winning six tournament games by an average of 21.5 points and avenging an earlier loss to Massachusetts in the Final Four.
2021 Baylor (28-2)
Notable players: G Jared Butler, G Davion Mitchell, G MaCio Teague
Two of the many reasons why this Baylor team deserves to be remembered: One, the Bears went 28-2 and won the national championship amid the coronavirus pandemic, playing three games in all of March due to COVID-19 issues on the roster; and two, they beat an unbeaten Gonzaga team in the championship game. In fact, Baylor won five of six tournament games by double digits, with the closest win by nine points against Arkansas in the Elite Eight.
2007 Florida (35-5)
Notable players: C Joakim Noah, F Al Horford, G Corey Brewer
The Gators brought back all five starters and went back-to-back. Ranked No. 1 for most of the year, Florida dropped three of five in SEC play heading into the conference tournament but wouldn’t lose again, ripping off nine wins in a row including an 84-75 win against Ohio State in the championship game. Maybe the only SEC roster that could challenge 1996 Kentucky in terms of pure depth, the Gators had five players in double figures and an unstoppable mix of backcourt scoring and an intimidating frontcourt.
1995 UCLA (31-2)
Notable players: F Ed O’Bannon, F Charles O’Bannon, G Tyus Edney
The Bruins might’ve been a little lucky to get out of the tournament’s opening weekend thanks to Edney’s buzzer-beater against Missouri , but the 31-2 record speaks for itself. The most recent national champion in program history was actually a pretty young team, with Ed O’Bannon and center George Kidek the only seniors. But UCLA got a big boost from underclassmen such as Edney, Toby Bailey and J.R. Henderson to rank fourth nationally in scoring offense.
2008 Kansas (37-3)
Notable players: G Mario Chalmers, F Darrell Arthur, G Brandon Rush
Those 37 wins are the most in program history and tied for the second-most in NCAA history. KU would win 20 in a row out of the gate but wouldn’t take over at No. 1 until beating Memphis for the national championship. That was overdue recognition for a team that won all but seven games by a double-digit margin. With seven players who would play in the NBA and an unstoppable offense, these Jayhawks top the list of the best team of the Bill Self era and can make a very strong case for being the best in program history.
2018 Villanova (36-4)
Notable players: G Jalen Brunson, F Mikal Bridges, G Donte DiVincenzo
Four factors give the 2018 Wildcats the nod over the 2016 national champions. One, the 2018 team was a No. 1 seed in the tournament, compared to a No. 2 in 2016. Two, Villanova won the Big East tournament after failing to do so two years earlier. Three, this team was even more loaded than the 2016 version, with DiVincenzo thrown into the mix and Brunson and Bridges established as two of the best in the country. And four, the 2018 team was even more dominant in tournament play than the 2016 Wildcats, with all six wins coming by double digits.

After wear-testing, Pugh gives the brand her seal of approval. " Their swim pieces are extremely comfortable yet stylish," she notes.
Sisters Oleema and Kalani Miller founded MIKOH as a tribute to the power of femininity. MIKOH comes from the Japanese term for "female prophecy" or "female shaman," and the Millers' brand certainly lives up to its name. These pieces, which combine form and function (the sisters happen to be surfers themselves), come in seamless, athletic-leaning silhouettes that won't budge.
New York City swimwear label Lokiki specializes in minimalist styles that will serve you for years. Scoop and plunging necklines, high-waisted briefs, and sleek one-pieces are some of their signature styles.
"Although ELOQUII offers much more than swim, their fashion-forward, trend-led designs make this brand an easy choice," Pugh tells Marie Claire . "Designing exclusively for plus size women, they understand the importance of both fit and fashion," she notes. If you're looking to stack up on fresh swimwear this season, keep an eye out for ELOQUII's monthly drops!
Want to make a splash with saturated shades and playful patterns? Look no further than Alpine Butterfly Swim. "This swimwear brand is my favorite recommendation for size-inclusive statement swimwear," says Pugh. "Their silhouettes and prints are always so playful and unique, which is a rare option for plus size girls."
Monday Swimwear
Founded by two friends and established swimwear connoisseurs, Natasha Oakley and Devin Brugman, Monday Swimwear creates swimwear that offers something for everyone— including options for E and F cups—so that all women can enjoy stylish swimwear.
Follow Suit
Follow Suit has fun, bold colors and vibrant pattern options, like paisley and floral cut-outs inspired by Mediterranean beaches. All of the prints are digitally printed onto the fabric, which uses less dye and water, and are made by skilled craftspeople in New York City.
RAQ was founded in 2018 by two women on a mission to create supportive bikinis for large busts. "I absolutely love that their swim is designed with a bustier woman in mind," says Pugh. "It can be difficult to find trendy swim pieces that also offer great support, but these fit the bill."
Kaiso. Swim
This Black-owned, woman-owned brand is beloved for its plunging one-pieces that flatter every body type. If you're busty, this is an excellent swimwear brand to consider.
This female-founded label is known for its laid-back, "It" girl pieces—a favorite amongst celebrities and editors who flock to the brand for its romantic details, like ruffles, ditsy floral prints, gingham, and lace.
- Choosing the Best Swimsuit Fabrics
“Look for craftsmanship, composition, and fit," says Judy Stein , executive director of SwimShow . Stein recommends opting for brands that design their swimwear with colorfast, quick-drying, and chlorine-resistant fabrics, like various blends of high-quality elastane, nylon, and polyester.
Fabric quality will impact longevity and how long your swimwear keeps feeling like new, even after being exposed to salt, chlorine, sand, and sun,” adds Farfetch's Seidel.
Whether you opt for standard swimwear fabrics or more sustainable alternatives (Seidel notes hemp, bamboo, organic cotton, Econyl, linen, and recycled nylon are all popular eco-fabrics to look for in the swimwear world), your swimsuit should hold shape while it's wet and dry.
- Don't Sacrifice Comfort
Perusing online reviews is a great way to get a sense of how well a swimsuit fits according to other shoppers, but sometimes, it’s a matter of simply testing it out for yourself. “Cut is key for confidence and comfort— but the first time you try on a swimsuit, you'll know immediately whether or not you feel good in it,” notes Seidel.
Some other tips to assess comfort from Siedel: Is it feeling firm and secure? Does it stay in place and keep you covered? If the answer is yes to both, you’ve got yourself a winner.
Some of the best swimsuit brands offer pieces that prioritize quality and comfort and are also in tune with relevant trends. Seidel says more ready-to-wear trends are being translated into the swim category this season. Expect to see hardware like metal details and jewelry-inspired embellishments. “I've been seeing a lot of designers like Christopher Esber playing with hardware in their collection, and their pieces have been making waves on social media,” she adds.
Along with hardware, Seidel says we can expect to see lots of patterns and details, like animal prints, pearly metallics, polka dots, and smocking, and says designers known primarily for their clothing are also branching out to swimwear.
While trends are always fun to incorporate into your swim collection, classic styles are always a good bet. You can never go wrong with a timeless one-piece.
Whether you're poolside or tanning in a park, you may want your swimwear to transition to lunch, dinner, or a night out. With the right styling, you can take your swimsuit (almost) anywhere.
"There are so many fabulous cover-ups that can be thrown on to transition from day to evening, [like] a great pair of palazzo pants or a caftan,” suggests Stein. Stein suggests slipping on strappy sandals and accessorizing with a summery raffia or wicker handbag to give your swim look an elevated fashion moment.
Slip on a black cover-up and matching sandals for a post-beach evening.
If you're heading to a seaside dinner after a long day in the sun, a flowy maxi dress or airy kaftan will give your look instant elevation. Try one in a neutral shade—like black, beige, or white—that will pair nicely with practically any swimsuit.
For a breezy evening outdoors wrap a blazer over your shoulders and coordinate your look with linen pants.
The classic blazer-and-pants combo isn't just reserved for days in the office. Take this sartorial outfit formula to the shore with a tailored linen set that you'll want to wear on repeat.
