He is a cricketer par excellence and has formerly captained the Indian cricket team for the longest time. He is exceptionally talented and is a right-handed batsman.

He has been conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and Padma Sri for his outstanding cricket achievements. Dhoni is an inspiration to the youth for his dedication, hard work, leadership qualities, and down-to-earth nature.

Essay on My Favourite Cricketer MS Dhoni

Below we have provided my favourite cricketer – MS Dhoni Essay in English, suitable for class 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” ~ Babe Ruth

The sports industry is full of inspirational and determined people. My favourite cricketer is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has also earned names like Mahi, Captain Cool, and MSD. Dhoni is an international Indian cricketer who plays as a middle-order batsman and a wicket-keeper.

He is also known to be a finisher in many matches. He is the only cricketer under whose captainship India has won a trophy in every ICC format. In 2011, Dhoni was also featured in the TIME’s List of 100 Most Influential People in The World.

Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand. In school, he used to play football. He played football at the district level and club level as a goalkeeper. His football coach asked him to try playing cricket.

Dhoni impressed everyone with his wicket-keeping skills and started focusing entirely on this game after the 10th standard. His favourite player at that time was Sachin Tendulkar , who he called his Hero.

In the early years of his career, Dhoni played school cricket and club cricket. He then played in the Ranji Trophy wherein he scored a half-century in his debut match.

From the years 2001 to 2003, Dhoni worked in the railways as a travelling ticket examiner. His colleagues remembered him to be honest and straight forward. After two years of working in the railways, Dhoni made his way back into cricket .

The Dhoni Era

Dhoni was picked up in the One Day International (ODI) India squad against Bangladesh. Dhoni was unable to make an impact in his first match as he got run out for a duck. But from the very next game, Dhoni started showing what he was really capable of doing. He scored an unbeaten 183 runs against Sri Lanka when Sachin Tendulkar gave away his wicket early in the game.

Dhoni helped India win matches under challenging situations. Whenever Dhoni came to bat, he accelerated the run rate and led India to victory. He was also holding the number one spot in ICC ODI Rankings in the year 2006.

Dhoni is an aggressive ball hitter and one of the fastest runners between the wickets. He is always praised by cricketers worldwide for his light speed stumping. He holds the record for the highest number of stumping by any wicket-keeper.

The starting of the 2007 Cricket World Cup was a bit rough for our beloved Dhoni. In two matches, he got out for zero. This agitated and angered some Indian political activists so much that they vandalised and damaged his house in Ranchi.

But Dhoni was not one to give up. He played some fantastic and record-breaking knocks after this episode. He regained his top spot in the ICC rankings, and his batting average per match reached a good 70 runs. Because of this spectacular display of performance, Dhoni was made the captain of the Indian cricket team in the year 2007.

Dhoni’s Captaincy

Dhoni is regarded as the most successful Indian captain, even by Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. It was under his captaincy that the Indian cricket team rose to the top spot in the ICC Rankings.

Under him, India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In the final against Sri Lanka, India had already lost three of its best batsmen. Dhoni promoted himself in the order and went out to bat before the in-form Yuvraj Singh.

He built a great partnership with Gautam Gambhir and ended the match for India with a six. He scored an unbeatable 91 runs and was also named the Man of the Match. The bat that he used in the match was auctioned and sold for Rs. 72 lakhs. All of this money went to his wife’s foundation that helps take care of and support orphaned children.

Dhoni has also captained the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was contracted by CSK for a hefty 1.5 million dollars in the year 2010, thus making him the most expensive player to be auctioned in IPL for the first season. Under his captainship, CSK were declared winners in the years 2010, 2011 and 2018.

One real-life incident from the life of MS Dhoni that stands out is his decision to step down as the captain of the Indian cricket team in 2017. After leading the team for nearly a decade, Dhoni decided to step down from his role as captain in order to make way for a new leader.

This decision can teach us several valuable lessons. Firstly, it teaches us the importance of knowing when to step back and make way for others. Dhoni recognized that it was time for a new leader to take over and he was willing to make the tough decision to step down.

Secondly, it teaches us the importance of humility. Despite his immense success and fame, Dhoni remained humble and was willing to step down from his role as captain for the betterment of the team.

Thirdly, it teaches us the importance of selflessness. Dhoni's decision to step down as captain was not driven by personal ambition, but rather by a desire to see the team succeed.

Lastly, it teaches us the importance of being able to adapt and change. Formats of Cricket

As Cricket has various formats, it has a different fan base for each of them. Some people like watching test matches because of their intensity and authenticity. While some enjoy Twenty-20, that require minimum engagement and are highly entertaining. Test Match is a format of cricket that is quite traditional.

It lasts up to five days and two countries play against each other in this match. Next up, we have the National League Systems, also called counties in England. Their duration is for three to four days.

Limited Overs Cricket is another type where the number of episodes decides the format and length of the game. Both the teams get to play a single inning and thus results are determined.

However, if it rains, they apply the Duck worth- Lewis Method to attain results. One of the most common formats is One Day International also known as ODI. Two countries play against each other for a total of fifty overs. Finally, this is probably the most entertaining format of cricket, the Twenty-20. It only has 20 overs to play and is quite exciting and engaging.

Long Essay on Sachin Tendulkar

Who is sachin tendulkar.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was born on 24 April 1973. His father’s name is Ramesh Tendulkar, who was a Marathi novelist who wrote many Marathi novels. His mother's name is Rajni Tendulkar. Sachin is a former Indian cricket player who was also the captain of the Indian national team in many events. He is considered to be the greatest batsman in the history of Indian Cricket after Sir Donald George Bradman and Sir Vivian Richards. Sachin is the highest run-scorer in international cricket and he is the only player to have scored one hundred international centuries. He is also the first batsman to score a double a hundred in a One-day Internationals(ODI), he is also the player to complete more than 30,000 runs in international cricket and is also the holder of the record for the most runs in both Test and ODI cricket. Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket in 2013. He is often termed as the little Master or the Master Blaster by many fans on the field and off the field, he is considered to be the God of cricket because of his accomplishments.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Early Life and Career:

Sachin Tendulkar was born in a middle-class family and he was very interested in cricket. Sachin took up cricket at the age of eleven and was very popular due to the school tournaments. He came into the limelight with a performance at his school tournament where he played an innings which is considered to change his life. He held a record partnership of 664 runs with Vinod Kambli playing in a school tournament. That inning allowed the selectors to see the talent and it is considered to be the inning that changed Sachin’s life as he became famous in a fortnight. Because of that inning, people all around the country got to know about a 16 years old kid that bats till the bowlers collapse. The Indian cricket team selectors did not waste time in selecting him and before anyone could have imagined Sachin Tendulkar was selected for the series against Pakistan only at the age of 16.

On 15 November 1989, Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in Karachi. Pakistan’s cricket team was known for its bowling during those days where the combo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were considered to be the most dangerous bowling duo. But Sachin faced them gracefully and even made a few runs. A 16 years old boy was able to face the most feared bowlers of that time which opened the doors for him to be selected for future cricket matches and a chance to represent the Indian National team. Sachin Tendulkar in his autobiography has mentioned that the series against Pakistan was memorable to him as he got a chance to meet and learn to form his idols such as Kapil dev and Sunil Gavaskar.

The Rise of Sachin Tendulkar

During the years 1994-1999, Sachin Tendulkar was in his twenties and his performance was at its peak. He opened the batting against New Zealand in 1994 and made 84 runs from just 49 balls, He then went on and scored his first ODI century against Australia. It took him around 78 ODI’s to score his first century but it was worth the wait. During the1996 World Cup, Sachin went on and became the leading run-scorer in the tournament and he also scored two centuries during that tournament.

After the World cup tournament, Sachin played a great innings against Pakistan at Sharjah. Tendulkar made another century and also had the highest second-wicket partnership with Navjot Singh Sidhu. India then went on to win that match against Pakistan.

Sachin Tendulkar was again tested when India toured Australia in the year 1998. Tendulkar had scored three consecutive centuries before the Australian tournament; Shane Warne, the leg spinner had dismantled top-class batsmen before the tournament. All eyes were on the clash between Sachin Tendulkar, the Indians best batsman, and Shane Warne, Australia’s most feared spinner.

Tendulkar went on and scored an unbeaten 204 runs in the first test and also dismantled the bowling of Shane Warne where he conceded 111 runs to Tendulkar. Australia lost the match to India within three days and it was all because of the exceptional batting that a twenty years old had shown. The bad luck for Australia continued as Tendulkar went on and scored two consecutive centuries. The twin knocks by Sachin Tendulkar are known as the ‘Desert Storm’ as they allowed Tendulkar to show his supremacy to the world.

Sachin Tendulkar’s performance in the ICC 1998 quarterfinal at Dhaka paved the way for India’s entry into the semifinals in which he scored 141 runs and also took four Australian wickets. In March 1999, the inaugural Asian test championship was held between India, Pakistan, and Srilanka in which during the second test Tendulkar went on and scored his 19th international test century.

Sachin again showed his class in a Test against Pakistan at Chepauk in 1999, where he scored 136 in the fourth innings and made sure that India had a good start. Despite all his effort, India lost the match to Pakistan by 12 runs. During the 1999 Cricket World cup, Sachin faced a tragic loss as his father, Professor Ramesh Tendulkar passed away. Sachin flew back to India to attend the final rituals of his father which led him to miss the match against Zimbabwe. However, Sachin returned to the world cup and scored another century against Kenya. India went on and won the match. This shows the character that Sachin has for the country. Despite his father’s death, he was determined to make India win the match and progress further in the tournament.

During the 2003 Cricket World cup tournament, Sachin was the highest run-scorer where he scored 673 runs in 11 matches and helped India reach the final. In the final match, India lost the world cup to Australia but Sachin Tendulkar was given the man of the tournament award.

Sachin Tendulkar - The Opener

The main contribution of Sachin Tendulkar was the way he changed the opening of cricket. The Indian team was struggling with opening batsmen as many of them were unable to give India a good start against any teams. The whole scenario changed when Sachin was allowed to open the innings against New Zealand in 1992 and he made it count. After that match, he was the opening batsman for the Indian cricket team. Sachin Tendulkar became very good at opening innings which helped the Indian team to have a good start in the match. The major runs Sachin scored in ODI cricket is by opening the batting for India. India got an opening in the form of Sachin Tendulkar who was very good at scoring and helping to set the momentum for India.

India started to get a good start in the match because of the opening which Sachin provided. The opposition was always under pressure because of his opening as they had no answers to the world-class batting which Sachin showed in every match. One of the things that made Sachin great was his ability to score against a very good bowling unit. He was consistent in scoring hundreds against teams such as Australia, New Zealand, and England.  He is still the player to have the highest runs against mighty Australia. From 1990 through 2000 Australian cricket teams were considered to be invisible. Playing against Australia was considered to be a nightmare for many batsmen but Sachin, it was the same as scoring for any other team. He was able to tackle the toughest bowling unit and come out victorious.

Sachin Tendulkar and his Greatest Innings

There are many innings of Sachin Tendulkar that are remembered to this day. Some of his innings are:

Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to score a double century in a one-day international match. In the year 2010, Sachin Tendulkar went on and scored 200 runs in just 147 balls against South Africa in Gwalior. That inning is remembered by many crickets as it showed the calibre of Sachin Tendulkar to the world.

The second most memorable inning of Sachin Tendulkar was his knock against Pakistan in Rawalpindi where he scored 141 runs in just 135 balls. Despite Pakistan winning the match, Sachin Tendulkar was declared the man of the match.

Before getting recognized by the world for his talent, Sachin Tendulkar played a school cricket tournament match where he had a 664 runs partnership with Vinod Kambli. Sachin was only 16 years old when he played that match and is considered to be the turning point in Sachin Tendulkar’s life.

Sachin Tendulkar and his Retirement

On 10 October 2013, Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a two-test match against the West Indies in November. The BCCI had arranged two farewell matches to be played at Kolkata and Mumbai. He scored 74 runs in his last test innings against West Indies and fell short of 79 runs to complete 16,000 runs in test cricket. The cricket association of Mumbai and Bengal had organised events to mark his retirement from the sport. Various politicians and international celebrities were present to witness the last inning of the master blaster.

Legacy of Sachin Tendulkar

His career in test cricket started in 1989 when he was just 16 years olds and expanded in the 1990s. He was the poster boy who helped the Indian cricket team to be recognized by the world. Key Points to Note when Writing an Essay on Cricket for Lower Primary Classes

‘my favorite game is cricket’ essay for children, short essay on ‘cricket’, long paragraph on ‘cricket’ for kids, what your child will learn from the essay on ‘cricket’.

When it comes to a sport in India that’s loved by everyone, there’s only one that truly stands out, and that’s Cricket! Cricket’s become more of a religion, where every house has a few members who just can’t get enough of the game. So, it’s really no surprise that teachers will ask the students to write an essay on cricket, as practice. Essay writing is an important skill students need to learn, so they can organize their thoughts and present them coherently. Cricket is a topic most students will love to write about, since they themselves will have so much to share! In this article, you can look at how to write an essay on Cricket in English, for classes 1,2 and 3, with increasing difficulty levels.

Remember these important tips before you write a paragraph on cricket:

  • Cricket is a sport that most people know and love. Therefore, give more weightage to the ‘feel’ of playing the game rather than obvious facts.
  • When writing short-form essays, keep the details about the sport very simple.
  • When wiring short essays concentrate on why cricket is your favorite game, merge the introduction and conclusion with the first and last paragraphs.
  • When writing a long-form essay, split the words into an introduction, the main body of the essay, and a conclusion.
  • Start the introduction with some simple facts about the game, and talk about relatable aspects in the body of the essay. Conclude with a summary of how cricket evolved.

The essay for class 1 and class 2 students are often in the form of one-line essays. These are easy to write and build the foundation for essay writing. Here is an example of a 10-line essay on cricket:

  • Cricket is truly the most popular sport in India, and is an outdoor game that is enjoyed by everyone.
  • The game is played by two teams of 11 players, each with a bat and a ball.
  • Cricket is usually played in a big playground. But people love it so much that small teams and groups play it on the roads and wherever there is enough space!
  • Cricket is also my favorite sport to watch. I always sit and watch cricket with my family.
  • In the evenings I go out to play cricket with my friends. We can play cricket all day without getting bored.
  • My favorite cricket player is Virat Kohli. He is inspiring and one of the best cricket players in the world.
  • In cricket, I am good at batting and bowling. I always get the first chance to bat when I play with my friends.
  • I got a cricket set for my birthday last year, and I clean it and take care of it every day.
  • It is everyone’s dream to become a top cricketer and play for the Indian cricket team.
  • Someday I am sure I will become the best cricketer in my school.

A small paragraph on cricket is a simple essay. Children can write about what makes cricket their favorite game and some general facts about the sport. Here is an example for a short cricket essay:

Cricket is my favorite sport in the world. It is played by everyone in my school and every school in the country. It is the most exciting game in the country, and everybody loves watching cricket matches. Indian people have so much zest for cricket that they can play it anywhere – in small fields, roads, gullies, and anywhere they can bowl and bat! I never get tired of playing cricket, and it is the only game we play after school and during the holidays.

Although cricket is the most beloved game in the country, its origins are in England. Two teams play the game with 11 players each. The team that wins the toss can then make the choice to bat or to bowl. Two players from the batting team are on the pitch while 11 players from the opposing team surround them in the field. People who play cricket outside the fields don’t always have 11 players each. When I play with my friends, the group splits into two teams. If only 8 friends show up to play, each team will have 4 boys.

To summarize, cricket is a game loved by children and adults alike. Whether it is played in a stadium or on the street, the thrill of the game is always high.

While writing long essays, it’s important to have the content pre-planned to maintain the narrative. Here is an example of a long paragraph essay on cricket for class 3:

If you live in India, chances are you are a huge cricket fan! No other game in the country is as loved, or no other sport is as popularly played as cricket. Despite originating in England, cricket found its home in modern-day India. This game was once played by high-ranking officials, expats, and royalty. Now it is the most played sport in stadiums, playgrounds, and even the local streets!

Cricket’s popularity in the media is also one of the reasons the game became so successful in the country. Every young boy, at some point, would have dreamed of becoming a cricket superstar who plays for the Indian cricket team. Not surprisingly, the competition to join the regional, state, and national teams is also high. All schools have cricket teams and cricket clubs that play in the Interschool competitions. Outstanding players also become little celebrities in schools, colleges, and institutions. Everybody loves the person in class who can play great cricket!

Coming to the game, cricket is played by two teams with 11 players each. The match is set in a large stadium, and the captain from each team steps forward for the coin toss. The winning team can choose to bat or to bowl. The batting team sets a score that the bowling team has to chase. The game is watched by thousands of spectators on the venue and millions more on TV. Over the years, cricket duration has changed from 50 overs to 20 overs.

The sport attracts many people and is loved by everyone. Children play it in the streets while grownups play it in the playgrounds. The game has almost a magical allure to people of all ages. Every time a match is going on, everybody wants to stay updated on the scores of their favorite team. Whether it is a victory or a loss, the fans take it personally.
