Understanding the Assignment Requirements

Before you start writing your 250-word essay, it is crucial to carefully read and understand the assignment requirements. Make sure you grasp the topic, the purpose of the essay, and any specific instructions provided by your instructor or professor.

Highlight key points such as the essay’s objective, the audience you are writing for, the structure or format required, the style of writing (formal or informal), and any specific guidelines on sources or citations.

  • Take note of the word count specified for the essay.
  • Clarify any doubts you may have with your instructor to ensure you are on the right track.
  • Organize your thoughts and create an outline based on the assignment requirements before you begin writing.

By thoroughly understanding the assignment requirements, you can ensure that your 250-word essay meets the criteria and effectively conveys your message to the intended audience.

Brainstorming and Outlining Your Ideas

Brainstorming and Outlining Your Ideas

Before you start writing your 250-word essay, it’s essential to brainstorm and outline your ideas. This step will help you organize your thoughts and ensure a coherent and well-structured essay.

Start by brainstorming ideas related to the topic of your essay. Jot down any relevant points, examples, or arguments that come to mind. Consider different perspectives and angles that you can explore in your essay.

Once you have a list of ideas, create an outline for your essay. This outline should include an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. In the introduction, briefly introduce your topic and provide some background information. The body paragraphs should expand on the ideas you brainstormed and provide supporting evidence. Finally, the conclusion should summarize your main points and restate your thesis.

By brainstorming and outlining your ideas before you start writing, you’ll set yourself up for success and make the writing process much smoother.

Developing Clear and Concise Body Paragraphs

When writing a 250-word essay, it’s essential to develop clear and concise body paragraphs to support your main argument. Each body paragraph should focus on a single main point and provide evidence to support it. Here are some tips to help you develop effective body paragraphs:

1. Topic Sentence:

Start each body paragraph with a topic sentence that introduces the main idea of the paragraph. This sentence should clearly state the point you will be discussing.

2. Supporting Evidence:

Provide specific examples, facts, or quotes to support your main point. Make sure that the evidence is relevant and directly relates to your argument.

3. Analysis:

After presenting your evidence, analyze it to explain how it supports your main argument. Discuss the significance of the evidence and how it strengthens your position.

4. Transition:

Use transitional words and phrases to smoothly move from one paragraph to the next. This helps to maintain the flow of your essay and connect your ideas cohesively.

By following these guidelines, you can develop clear and concise body paragraphs that enhance the overall structure and quality of your 250-word essay.

From Novice to Pro: How to write an academic essay like a professional

how to write a essay like a pro

Academic writing is a skill that takes time and practice to master. The challenge lies in the need to master the art of combining research and creativity in order to produce an essay that is not only informative but also engaging. However, with the right tips and techniques, even novice writers can produce high-quality academic essays that are on par with those written by professionals. Let’s discuss 7 tips that will help novices write pro-level academic essays.

Develop a Strong Thesis Statement

A thesis statement is the backbone of an essay. It is a statement that sums up the entire essay in a single sentence. Therefore, it is important to develop a strong thesis statement to guide the essay's content.

The thesis statement should be clear, concise, and specific. It should outline the writer's main argument and the points they aim to prove throughout the essay. This will not only give direction to the essay but also help to keep the writer focused.

Conduct Thorough Research

Research is an essential part of academic writing. It provides evidence and support for the arguments made in the essay and helps to establish the credibility of the writer. Thorough research involves gathering data and information from various sources such as academic journals, books, and reputable websites.

It is important to take notes and organize them in a way that is easy to reference when writing the essay. The notes should be grouped according to the main points of the essay, and sources should be cited properly to avoid plagiarism.

Organize Your Ideas and Create an Outline

Organizing ideas is crucial to producing a well-structured and coherent essay. An outline provides a framework for the essay and ensures that all the necessary information is included.

The outline should include the main points of the essay and subtopics that support them. The subtopics should be organized in a logical manner that flows from one point to the next. The outline helps to avoid the inclusion of irrelevant information and ensures that the essay is well-structured.

Use Credible Sources and Cite Them Properly

Credible sources are necessary to establish the credibility of the writer and the argument being made. Using sources that are not credible can weaken the argument and leave the essay open to criticism. Therefore, it is important to use credible sources such as academic journals, books, and reputable websites. It is also important to cite sources properly using the appropriate citation style, such as APA or MLA. Failure to cite sources properly can lead to accusations of plagiarism.

Write Clear and Concise Paragraphs

Clear and concise paragraphs make the essay easy to read and understand. They also help to maintain the flow of the essay and ensure that all the necessary information is included.

The paragraphs should be structured in a logical manner, with a clear topic sentence at the beginning of each paragraph. The paragraph should focus on a single point, and unnecessary information should be avoided. Transitions should be used to connect paragraphs and maintain the flow of the essay.

Edit and Revise Your Essay

Editing your essay and revising it are essential to producing a polished and professional work. It helps to eliminate errors and ensure that the essay is well-written and coherent. Editing involves reviewing the essay for spelling and grammar errors, while revision involves rethinking the structure and content of the essay.

It is important to take a break after writing to allow for a fresh perspective. The essay should be read through several times, and any errors or areas that need improvement should be noted. Necessary changes should be made, and the essay should be read by someone else for feedback.

Writing a pro-level academic essay requires a combination of research and creativity. However, by following the tips outlined in this article, anyone can produce an essay that is informative, engaging, and professional.

Every writer can produce essays that are not only informative but also engaging to read. This is essential for anyone who wants to excel in academic writing and produce work that stands out from the rest. Writing a pro-level academic essay requires effort, patience, and dedication, but the end result is worth it.

In conclusion, these tips are a starting point for novice writers who want to improve their academic writing skills. However, writing a pro-level academic essay is a continuous learning process. Therefore, it is important to continue to hone your skills and seek feedback from others to improve your writing further. With time and practice, anyone can become a pro-level academic writer.

How to Write a Pros & Cons Essay: Step-By-Step Guide

Trying to convince someone to take your word on a particular subject isn’t straightforward. You must present convincing arguments backed by proof to encourage your opponent to change their mind. Moreover, the pros and cons essay must also cover the opposing standpoints.

You may wonder why this is relevant. Undoubtedly, most issues in our modern society are multidimensional and double or often triple-sided. There’s no concept clearly black and white, for the simple reason that no two people on Earth have an identical point of view.

Therefore, writing pro and con essays is vital for students of all ages. In the process, you will learn to think analytically and reason things from different angles. Whatever your thoughts on the topic, you must prove your point by offering convincing evidence and facts.

For those who never had the chance to write a pros & cons essay, the time has come to take the plunge. The start may be intimidating, but you’ll soon get the hang of it. To help you, we list a few helpful tips and examples to consider for your pro and con paper.

What Is a Pros and Cons Essay?

Before you set your aims high, let’s explain what for and against essays are. You must also understand the importance of this kind of academic assignment to write efficiently. A pros & cons essay is a written task that elaborates on the advantages and disadvantages of a specific problem. The paper covers different sides of a single topic where your argument prevails.

The most challenging aspect for students is that they can’t just list the benefits and drawbacks of a pressing matter. Instead, they must summarize ideas, like when writing a synthesis essay , and pick a side by stating their point. Moreover, the paper must have a logical flow that ends with your attitude.

The introduction should signpost the direction in which you’re steering. State your opinion only after you’ve meticulously analyzed all for and against arguments.

What to Consider When Writing a Pros and Cons Essay

A Compelling Topic

The topic you choose must have inherent positive and negative sides. Avoid themes with evident benefits and no disadvantages. Similarly, skip obviously disadvantageous topics because those are tiresome and time-consuming. For example, write about an issue with pronounced bad and good sides, such as advertising, online education, or modern technologies. However, the ultimate decision will depend on the course specifics and your professor’s guidelines.

Relevant Ideas

Your work must offer a unique perspective on a central idea. And you must support the main claim with at least three arguments. Including every possible pro and con will overwhelm the reader and won’t make your work impactful.

Instead, write about the core aspects of the issue. You can find numerous relevant examples on Paperell if you lack inspiration. Also, ensure you discuss the strongest point at the onset. Similarly, refute the most relevant con in the end to demonstrate your ability to handle opposing views.

Write in the traditional format. It should consist of an introduction, middle paragraphs (one paragraph for each idea), and a conclusion. Use short and concise sentences to avoid losing yourself in your thoughts. Run-on sentences will confuse the reader and impede seamless reading.

Originality

Refrain from copying other works without including quotations. Your paper must be 100% authentic. If you decide to seek assistance from a platform that offers online essays for sale , ensure it is reliable. Most custom paper services abide by strict academic standards and deliver plagiarism-free work.

Make sure your ideas are relevant, supported by facts, and not arbitrary. Also, typos are unacceptable for these kinds of assignments. To avoid losing points on technical aspects, review your grammatical structures and use plenty of synonyms for the keywords in the essay.

How to Write a Pros and Cons Essay?

For a rookie, the essay composition process might prove an uphill task. However, with practice, you’ll become more efficient and productive. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to write your essay.

Do Thorough Research

Examine the assigned topic and focus on important information on the subject. Try to find credible sources that are objective and fact-based. Though you probably have an opinion on the problem, don’t let it blur your objectivity.

Brainstorm the Advantages and Disadvantages

Once you find enough positive and negative sides of the matter, write them in a list. Ensure you provide examples for each point, as you’d do in exemplification essay writing for your college assignments. Write two columns and rate items by relevance. The top three benefits should go in the paper.

Draft the Essay Skeleton

Decide what outline you’ll use. One approach is to write each pro and con in different paragraphs. Alternatively, you might want to dedicate every paragraph to one aspect of the dilemma, discussing both pros and cons simultaneously.

Be Creative

Start your journey with an attention-grabbing idea that urges your audience to keep reading. To this end, choose a hook for an essay that is topic-related and amusing. Also, when writing a pros and cons paper, the thesis statement should tell the reader what follows.

In the body section, discuss the points you decided to include but with examples and facts. Each paragraph should start with a topic sentence, and all explanations should relate to the main claim. The conclusion must summarize the essay, restate your position, and compel the reader to contemplate the problem.

Editing and proofreading your work is critical for an impeccable essay. Ensure your punctuation, spelling, and grammar are error-free.

Plagiarism Free Pros & Cons Essay

Writing a 100% original manuscript isn’t straightforward. As much as you try to paraphrase, sophisticated tools recognize your attempts. The same will happen with the trained eye of your professor. Consider the following tips to avoid plagiarized essays.

Cite Properly

Citations are vital, so you must give credit to all sources you’re using in your paper. This way, you show you can borrow information with integrity. Failure to include quotations and references is plagiarism. The best way to cite a study or research is to follow the APA style.

Use a Plagiarism Checker

Your teachers use specialized tools to check the plagiarism level in your essay. Doing this will spare you a lot of trouble and effort. Try your free plagiarism checker with percentage to get a detailed report on your work. If you spot copied content, rewrite it to express your ideas differently.

Be Original

Pros and cons essays reveal your side on a specific subject. Hence, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to your opinions. With original ideas, you won’t have to worry about plagiarism. Still, always base your thoughts on relevant research and use the conclusion to call for action. Need help with the pros and cons essay? You can pay for papers online to get professional help. 5 Surprising Tips to Help You Write Like a Pro

  • Amantha Imber

how to write a essay like a pro

Read your work out loud.

We’re all writers— whether we write emails, reports, blog posts, articles, or books. Our success at work depends on how well we’re able to communicate our thoughts through these mediums. Mastering the art of writing can help us persuade people more impactfully and be perceived by others as smarter and more insightful. Here are five ways to get better at it.

  • Read your work out loud. As you read, you’ll begin to realize which sentences can be edited for brevity or clarity, or where you’ve said too much when one sentence is good enough to explain a concept.
  • Edit other people’s work. While editing, ask yourself why something was written the way it is or why was a certain word used, for example. This will help you be more intentional in your own writing.
  • Ask yourself whether you are adding value or saying something new. If you are simply repeating advice or ideas that already exist in the world, you might want to think more deeply to ensure the work you publish is adding new value.
  • Clear your metaphorical throat. When you are editing your own writing, try this trick: Delete the first couple of paragraphs and see if that makes your piece sharper.
  • Retype your work to get into a flow. Type out a rough draft of your work, print it out, and then type it back onto your computer. This will get you in a flow where you’ll make changes almost unconsciously.

College Essays

feature_help.jpg

If you grow up to be a professional writer, everything you write will first go through an editor before being published. This is because the process of writing is really a process of re-writing —of rethinking and reexamining your work, usually with the help of someone else. So what does this mean for your student writing? And in particular, what does it mean for very important, but nonprofessional writing like your college essay? Should you ask your parents to look at your essay? Pay for an essay service?

If you are wondering what kind of help you can, and should, get with your personal statement, you've come to the right place! In this article, I'll talk about what kind of writing help is useful, ethical, and even expected for your college admission essay . I'll also point out who would make a good editor, what the differences between editing and proofreading are, what to expect from a good editor, and how to spot and stay away from a bad one.

Should You Pay Money For Essay Editing?

The Bottom Line

What's next, what kind of help with your essay can you get.

Rather than talking in general terms about "help," let's first clarify the two different ways that someone else can improve your writing . There is editing, which is the more intensive kind of assistance that you can use throughout the whole process. And then there's proofreading, which is the last step of really polishing your final product.

Let me go into some more detail about editing and proofreading, and then explain how good editors and proofreaders can help you."

Editing is helping the author (in this case, you) go from a rough draft to a finished work . Editing is the process of asking questions about what you're saying, how you're saying it, and how you're organizing your ideas. But not all editing is good editing . In fact, it's very easy for an editor to cross the line from supportive to overbearing and over-involved.

Ability to clarify assignments. A good editor is usually a good writer, and certainly has to be a good reader. For example, in this case, a good editor should make sure you understand the actual essay prompt you're supposed to be answering.

Open-endedness. Good editing is all about asking questions about your ideas and work, but without providing answers. It's about letting you stick to your story and message, and doesn't alter your point of view.

body_landscape.jpg

Think of an editor as a great travel guide. It can show you the many different places your trip could take you. It should explain any parts of the trip that could derail your trip or confuse the traveler. But it never dictates your path, never forces you to go somewhere you don't want to go, and never ignores your interests so that the trip no longer seems like it's your own. So what should good editors do?

Help Brainstorm Topics

Sometimes it's easier to bounce thoughts off of someone else. This doesn't mean that your editor gets to come up with ideas, but they can certainly respond to the various topic options you've come up with. This way, you're less likely to write about the most boring of your ideas, or to write about something that isn't actually important to you.

If you're wondering how to come up with options for your editor to consider, check out our guide to brainstorming topics for your college essay .

Help Revise Your Drafts

Here, your editor can't upset the delicate balance of not intervening too much or too little. It's tricky, but a great way to think about it is to remember: editing is about asking questions, not giving answers .

Revision questions should point out:

  • Places where more detail or more description would help the reader connect with your essay
  • Places where structure and logic don't flow, losing the reader's attention
  • Places where there aren't transitions between paragraphs, confusing the reader
  • Moments where your narrative or the arguments you're making are unclear

But pointing to potential problems is not the same as actually rewriting—editors let authors fix the problems themselves.

Bad editing is usually very heavy-handed editing. Instead of helping you find your best voice and ideas, a bad editor changes your writing into their own vision.

You may be dealing with a bad editor if they:

  • Add material (examples, descriptions) that doesn't come from you
  • Use a thesaurus to make your college essay sound "more mature"
  • Add meaning or insight to the essay that doesn't come from you
  • Tell you what to say and how to say it
  • Write sentences, phrases, and paragraphs for you
  • Change your voice in the essay so it no longer sounds like it was written by a teenager

Colleges can tell the difference between a 17-year-old's writing and a 50-year-old's writing. Not only that, they have access to your SAT or ACT Writing section, so they can compare your essay to something else you wrote. Writing that's a little more polished is great and expected. But a totally different voice and style will raise questions.

Where's the Line Between Helpful Editing and Unethical Over-Editing?

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether your college essay editor is doing the right thing. Here are some guidelines for staying on the ethical side of the line.

  • An editor should say that the opening paragraph is kind of boring, and explain what exactly is making it drag. But it's overstepping for an editor to tell you exactly how to change it.
  • An editor should point out where your prose is unclear or vague. But it's completely inappropriate for the editor to rewrite that section of your essay.
  • An editor should let you know that a section is light on detail or description. But giving you similes and metaphors to beef up that description is a no-go.

Proofreading (also called copy-editing) is checking for errors in the last draft of a written work. It happens at the end of the process and is meant as the final polishing touch. Proofreading is meticulous and detail-oriented, focusing on small corrections. It sands off all the surface rough spots that could alienate the reader.

Because proofreading is usually concerned with making fixes on the word or sentence level, this is the only process where someone else can actually add to or take away things from your essay . This is because what they are adding or taking away tends to be one or two misplaced letters.

Laser focus. Proofreading is all about the tiny details, so the ability to really concentrate on finding small slip-ups is a must.

Excellent grammar and spelling skills. Proofreaders need to dot every "i" and cross every "t." Good proofreaders should correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. They should put foreign words in italics and surround quotations with quotation marks. They should check that you used the correct college's name, and that you adhered to any formatting requirements (name and date at the top of the page, uniform font and size, uniform spacing).

Limited interference. A proofreader needs to make sure that you followed any word limits. But if cuts need to be made to shorten the essay, that's your job and not the proofreader's.

body_detective-2.jpg

A bad proofreader either tries to turn into an editor, or just lacks the skills and knowledge necessary to do the job.

Some signs that you're working with a bad proofreader are:

  • If they suggest making major changes to the final draft of your essay. Proofreading happens when editing is already finished.
  • If they aren't particularly good at spelling, or don't know grammar, or aren't detail-oriented enough to find someone else's small mistakes.
  • If they start swapping out your words for fancier-sounding synonyms, or changing the voice and sound of your essay in other ways. A proofreader is there to check for errors, not to take the 17-year-old out of your writing.

What Do Colleges Think of Your Getting Help With Your Essay?

Admissions officers agree: light editing and proofreading are good—even required ! But they also want to make sure you're the one doing the work on your essay. They want essays with stories, voice, and themes that come from you. They want to see work that reflects your actual writing ability, and that focuses on what you find important.

On the Importance of Editing

Get feedback. Have a fresh pair of eyes give you some feedback. Don't allow someone else to rewrite your essay, but do take advantage of others' edits and opinions when they seem helpful. ( Bates College )

Read your essay aloud to someone. Reading the essay out loud offers a chance to hear how your essay sounds outside your head. This exercise reveals flaws in the essay's flow, highlights grammatical errors and helps you ensure that you are communicating the exact message you intended. ( Dickinson College )

On the Value of Proofreading

Share your essays with at least one or two people who know you well—such as a parent, teacher, counselor, or friend—and ask for feedback. Remember that you ultimately have control over your essays, and your essays should retain your own voice, but others may be able to catch mistakes that you missed and help suggest areas to cut if you are over the word limit. ( Yale University )

Proofread and then ask someone else to proofread for you. Although we want substance, we also want to be able to see that you can write a paper for our professors and avoid careless mistakes that would drive them crazy. ( Oberlin College )

On Watching Out for Too Much Outside Influence

Limit the number of people who review your essay. Too much input usually means your voice is lost in the writing style. ( Carleton College )

Ask for input (but not too much). Your parents, friends, guidance counselors, coaches, and teachers are great people to bounce ideas off of for your essay. They know how unique and spectacular you are, and they can help you decide how to articulate it. Keep in mind, however, that a 45-year-old lawyer writes quite differently from an 18-year-old student, so if your dad ends up writing the bulk of your essay, we're probably going to notice. ( Vanderbilt University )

body_thumbsup-3.jpg

Now let's talk about some potential people to approach for your college essay editing and proofreading needs. It's best to start close to home and slowly expand outward. Not only are your family and friends more invested in your success than strangers, but they also have a better handle on your interests and personality. This knowledge is key for judging whether your essay is expressing your true self.

Parents or Close Relatives

Your family may be full of potentially excellent editors! Parents are deeply committed to your well-being, and family members know you and your life well enough to offer details or incidents that can be included in your essay. On the other hand, the rewriting process necessarily involves criticism, which is sometimes hard to hear from someone very close to you.

A parent or close family member is a great choice for an editor if you can answer "yes" to the following questions. Is your parent or close relative a good writer or reader? Do you have a relationship where editing your essay won't create conflict? Are you able to constructively listen to criticism and suggestion from the parent?

One suggestion for defusing face-to-face discussions is to try working on the essay over email. Send your parent a draft, have them write you back some comments, and then you can pick which of their suggestions you want to use and which to discard.

Teachers or Tutors

A humanities teacher that you have a good relationship with is a great choice. I am purposefully saying humanities, and not just English, because teachers of Philosophy, History, Anthropology, and any other classes where you do a lot of writing, are all used to reviewing student work.

Moreover, any teacher or tutor that has been working with you for some time, knows you very well and can vet the essay to make sure it "sounds like you."

If your teacher or tutor has some experience with what college essays are supposed to be like, ask them to be your editor. If not, then ask whether they have time to proofread your final draft.

Guidance or College Counselor at Your School

The best thing about asking your counselor to edit your work is that this is their job. This means that they have a very good sense of what colleges are looking for in an application essay.

At the same time, school counselors tend to have relationships with admissions officers in many colleges, which again gives them insight into what works and which college is focused on what aspect of the application.

Unfortunately, in many schools the guidance counselor tends to be way overextended. If your ratio is 300 students to 1 college counselor, you're unlikely to get that person's undivided attention and focus. It is still useful to ask them for general advice about your potential topics, but don't expect them to be able to stay with your essay from first draft to final version.

Friends, Siblings, or Classmates

Although they most likely don't have much experience with what colleges are hoping to see, your peers are excellent sources for checking that your essay is you .

Friends and siblings are perfect for the read-aloud edit. Read your essay to them so they can listen for words and phrases that are stilted, pompous, or phrases that just don't sound like you.

You can even trade essays and give helpful advice on each other's work.

body_goats.jpg

If your editor hasn't worked with college admissions essays very much, no worries! Any astute and attentive reader can still greatly help with your process. But, as in all things, beginners do better with some preparation.

First, your editor should read our advice about how to write a college essay introduction , how to spot and fix a bad college essay , and get a sense of what other students have written by going through some admissions essays that worked .

Then, as they read your essay, they can work through the following series of questions that will help them to guide you.

Introduction Questions

  • Is the first sentence a killer opening line? Why or why not?
  • Does the introduction hook the reader? Does it have a colorful, detailed, and interesting narrative? Or does it propose a compelling or surprising idea?
  • Can you feel the author's voice in the introduction, or is the tone dry, dull, or overly formal? Show the places where the voice comes through.

Essay Body Questions

  • Does the essay have a through-line? Is it built around a central argument, thought, idea, or focus? Can you put this idea into your own words?
  • How is the essay organized? By logical progression? Chronologically? Do you feel order when you read it, or are there moments where you are confused or lose the thread of the essay?
  • Does the essay have both narratives about the author's life and explanations and insight into what these stories reveal about the author's character, personality, goals, or dreams? If not, which is missing?
  • Does the essay flow? Are there smooth transitions/clever links between paragraphs? Between the narrative and moments of insight?

Reader Response Questions

  • Does the writer's personality come through? Do we know what the speaker cares about? Do we get a sense of "who he or she is"?
  • Where did you feel most connected to the essay? Which parts of the essay gave you a "you are there" sensation by invoking your senses? What moments could you picture in your head well?
  • Where are the details and examples vague and not specific enough?
  • Did you get an "a-ha!" feeling anywhere in the essay? Is there a moment of insight that connected all the dots for you? Is there a good reveal or "twist" anywhere in the essay?
  • What are the strengths of this essay? What needs the most improvement?

Should You Pay Money for Essay Editing?

One alternative to asking someone you know to help you with your college essay is the paid editor route. There are two different ways to pay for essay help: a private essay coach or a less personal editing service , like the many proliferating on the internet.

My advice is to think of these options as a last resort rather than your go-to first choice. I'll first go through the reasons why. Then, if you do decide to go with a paid editor, I'll help you decide between a coach and a service.

When to Consider a Paid Editor

In general, I think hiring someone to work on your essay makes a lot of sense if none of the people I discussed above are a possibility for you.

If you can't ask your parents. For example, if your parents aren't good writers, or if English isn't their first language. Or if you think getting your parents to help is going create unnecessary extra conflict in your relationship with them (applying to college is stressful as it is!)

If you can't ask your teacher or tutor. Maybe you don't have a trusted teacher or tutor that has time to look over your essay with focus. Or, for instance, your favorite humanities teacher has very limited experience with college essays and so won't know what admissions officers want to see.

If you can't ask your guidance counselor. This could be because your guidance counselor is way overwhelmed with other students.

If you can't share your essay with those who know you. It might be that your essay is on a very personal topic that you're unwilling to share with parents, teachers, or peers. Just make sure it doesn't fall into one of the bad-idea topics in our article on bad college essays .

If the cost isn't a consideration. Many of these services are quite expensive, and private coaches even more so. If you have finite resources, I'd say that hiring an SAT or ACT tutor (whether it's PrepScholar or someone else) is better way to spend your money . This is because there's no guarantee that a slightly better essay will sufficiently elevate the rest of your application, but a significantly higher SAT score will definitely raise your applicant profile much more.

Should You Hire an Essay Coach?

On the plus side, essay coaches have read dozens or even hundreds of college essays, so they have experience with the format. Also, because you'll be working closely with a specific person, it's more personal than sending your essay to a service, which will know even less about you.

But, on the minus side, you'll still be bouncing ideas off of someone who doesn't know that much about you . In general, if you can adequately get the help from someone you know, there is no advantage to paying someone to help you.

If you do decide to hire a coach, ask your school counselor, or older students that have used the service for recommendations. If you can't afford the coach's fees, ask whether they can work on a sliding scale —many do. And finally, beware those who guarantee admission to your school of choice—essay coaches don't have any special magic that can back up those promises.

Should You Send Your Essay to a Service?

On the plus side, essay editing services provide a similar product to essay coaches, and they cost significantly less . If you have some assurance that you'll be working with a good editor, the lack of face-to-face interaction won't prevent great results.

On the minus side, however, it can be difficult to gauge the quality of the service before working with them . If they are churning through many application essays without getting to know the students they are helping, you could end up with an over-edited essay that sounds just like everyone else's. In the worst case scenario, an unscrupulous service could send you back a plagiarized essay.

Getting recommendations from friends or a school counselor for reputable services is key to avoiding heavy-handed editing that writes essays for you or does too much to change your essay. Including a badly-edited essay like this in your application could cause problems if there are inconsistencies. For example, in interviews it might be clear you didn't write the essay, or the skill of the essay might not be reflected in your schoolwork and test scores.

Should You Buy an Essay Written by Someone Else?

Let me elaborate. There are super sketchy places on the internet where you can simply buy a pre-written essay. Don't do this!

For one thing, you'll be lying on an official, signed document. All college applications make you sign a statement saying something like this:

I certify that all information submitted in the admission process—including the application, the personal essay, any supplements, and any other supporting materials—is my own work, factually true, and honestly presented... I understand that I may be subject to a range of possible disciplinary actions, including admission revocation, expulsion, or revocation of course credit, grades, and degree, should the information I have certified be false. (From the Common Application )

For another thing, if your academic record doesn't match the essay's quality, the admissions officer will start thinking your whole application is riddled with lies.

Admission officers have full access to your writing portion of the SAT or ACT so that they can compare work that was done in proctored conditions with that done at home. They can tell if these were written by different people. Not only that, but there are now a number of search engines that faculty and admission officers can use to see if an essay contains strings of words that have appeared in other essays—you have no guarantee that the essay you bought wasn't also bought by 50 other students.

  • You should get college essay help with both editing and proofreading
  • A good editor will ask questions about your idea, logic, and structure, and will point out places where clarity is needed
  • A good editor will absolutely not answer these questions, give you their own ideas, or write the essay or parts of the essay for you
  • A good proofreader will find typos and check your formatting
  • All of them agree that getting light editing and proofreading is necessary
  • Parents, teachers, guidance or college counselor, and peers or siblings
  • If you can't ask any of those, you can pay for college essay help, but watch out for services or coaches who over-edit you work
  • Don't buy a pre-written essay! Colleges can tell, and it'll make your whole application sound false.

How to Write an Essay Like a Professional Essay Writer?

how to write a essay like a pro

It can be intimidating to write an essay, especially if you don't consider yourself to be a skilled essay writer. But do not worry; it is simpler than it appears. You can produce an essay that will amaze any professor and highlight your writing abilities if you take the proper method. However, if you find yourself struggling or pressed for time, there's always an option to buy an essay from professional writers who can help you meet your deadlines and academic requirements. There are many processes involved in producing a superb essay, from brainstorming and research to outlining and editing. These procedures may appear difficult or intimidating to people who have never written an essay or who are still learning the fundamentals. This handbook fills that need. You will find all the information you require regarding essay writing, from beginning to end, in this tutorial. From understanding the question to structuring your argument and citing sources properly, we'll provide some essay writing tips so that anyone can write an essay like a professional essay writer.

Master the Essay Writing Process

Writing an essay, like other skills, requires practice. To ace the essay writing process, it's important to start by understanding the basics of academic writing . Choosing the style of essay, you're going to write and coming up with a clear thesis statement are the first two steps. Once you know the essay you want to write and have finalized your stance on the matter, you can then start gathering information and investigating your subject. The following action is to arrange your data into an outline with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. As you read through the research material you've gathered, select information supporting your thesis statement and add it to your outline. Finally, begin writing your essay by starting with the introduction, which introduces your main points. Follow up with body paragraphs that further elaborate on those points and provide supporting evidence from outside sources. In the conclusion section, restate all your key points to complete your argument. Anyone can rapidly become a skilled college essay writer by dissecting the essay writing process into six simple steps.

Understand the Structure & Layout of an Essay

Essays are written in a particular structure and layout, typically comprising an introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction should give a brief overview of what the essay will cover and introduce any key concepts. The body of the essay should contain the bulk of your arguments and evidence to back up those points. Finally, the conclusion should summarize your main argument and provide a final perspective on the subject matter. To make sure your essay is properly structured, it is important to be mindful of how you transition between ideas. To do this effectively, you should use linking words such as "on the other hand" or "moreover" to help ease readers from one section to another. Also, consider making use of headings or bullet points to visually break up long pieces of text by introducing sections within the piece for easier consumption by readers. Additionally, it will make it easier for them to understand the purpose of each section as they read further into the essay. By structuring your material in this way, readers will have an easier time understanding your core argument and will be more appreciative of the time and effort you put into creating it.

Research Techniques for Quality Source Material

Probably the most crucial step in writing an essay is conducting research. It's impossible to write a well-founded essay without reliable sources. The following advice will help you conduct research like a pro:

Use Reputable Sources

If you are using information from the internet, make sure it is coming from a reputable source. Opt for widely accepted journals, websites with accurate facts, and books written by experts in the field. It's also important to double-check facts when researching online and ensure that you don't miss any details or take something out of context.

Make Notes As You Go

Keep track of your research as you go by taking notes. Note down any pertinent details, such as quotes from professionals or eye-catching figures that may help you support your position. So that you can readily refer back to it later on when writing your essay, try to capture as much information as you can in writing.

Take Breaks When Needed

Sometimes doing research might be difficult, so it's crucial to take breaks as needed. Step away from work for a short while if you find yourself in a rut or feeling overworked, and then come back renewed with a clearer mind and some fresh ideas!

Referencing & Citing Sources Properly

The ability to provide proof to support your claims is one of the most important aspects of any essay. Correctly crediting and referencing your sources is crucial for academic credibility and will strengthen your arguments. To ensure that you properly cite your sources, it is important that you:

  • Know the format of referencing appropriate for the type of paper you are writing;
  • Use a consistent style throughout your paper; and
  • Cite any quotes, facts, or figures directly from the source material.

Although referencing can seem complex at first, with a bit of practice, it soon becomes second nature. Resources such as [insert website] are useful when it comes to providing guidance on which format to use and helpful examples of how best to cite different sources.

Editing & Proofreading Your Work

Once you’ve finished writing your essay, it’s time to go back and review your work.  Even professional essay writers set aside time to make sure the text is cohesive, flows well, and any errors are caught before the piece is submitted. Here are some helpful tips for editing and proofreading:

Reading aloud can help you identify clunky word combinations and repetitive phrases that you may have overlooked. As you read, take note of any sentences that don’t sound quite right, as well as any awkward phrasing or over-used words.

Take Breaks Between Revisions

This will help refresh your mind so you can come back to it with a fresh perspective. Small breaks – in between each paragraph – are especially important for avoiding mistakes.

As you go through the text, take notes of any sections that need additional research or should be phrased in a different manner. Doing this will help ensure your essay has a unified feel, making it more digestible for readers. By taking these tips into account while editing your essay, you're one step closer to submitting a masterpiece of professional quality!

Hiring a Professional Essay Writer

If everything else fails, you may always think about getting an essay writer from a well reputed writing service like Nerdpapers. For students who are struggling to write a lengthy essay or who find it difficult to fit the assignment into their already packed schedules, this can be a great option. Professional essay writers can handle a wide range of subjects, and they'll make sure your work is thoroughly researched, properly organized, and error-free.

There are a few important things to take into account when looking for the ideal essay writer for you:

  • Examine the credentials and evaluations - Make sure potential authors have the credentials required to accomplish your task by taking the time to study internet reviews of them.
  • Understand costs – Different writers charge different fees – make sure you are aware of all costs associated with your project before making any commitment.
  • Agree on deadlines & expectations – Set clear expectations with your writer, as this will save time and reduce stress down the line.
  • Communicate regularly – Make sure to communicate regularly throughout the process so that everyone is clear on their understanding of the project’s goals and objectives.

In conclusion, writing an essay is not a daunting task when the right tips and tricks are in practice. Effective research, outlining, and editing are essential components of essay writing, which allows you to create an outstanding piece that will impress any professor or audience. With the right attitude and approach, anyone can become a professional essay writer and produce a well-crafted essay.

How to Write an Essay Introduction | 4 Steps & Examples

Published on February 4, 2019 by Shona McCombes . Revised on July 23, 2023.

A good introduction paragraph is an essential part of any academic essay . It sets up your argument and tells the reader what to expect.

The main goals of an introduction are to:

  • Catch your reader’s attention.
  • Give background on your topic.
  • Present your thesis statement —the central point of your essay.

This introduction example is taken from our interactive essay example on the history of Braille.

The invention of Braille was a major turning point in the history of disability. The writing system of raised dots used by visually impaired people was developed by Louis Braille in nineteenth-century France. In a society that did not value disabled people in general, blindness was particularly stigmatized, and lack of access to reading and writing was a significant barrier to social participation. The idea of tactile reading was not entirely new, but existing methods based on sighted systems were difficult to learn and use. As the first writing system designed for blind people’s needs, Braille was a groundbreaking new accessibility tool. It not only provided practical benefits, but also helped change the cultural status of blindness. This essay begins by discussing the situation of blind people in nineteenth-century Europe. It then describes the invention of Braille and the gradual process of its acceptance within blind education. Subsequently, it explores the wide-ranging effects of this invention on blind people’s social and cultural lives.

Step 1: hook your reader, step 2: give background information, step 3: present your thesis statement, step 4: map your essay’s structure, step 5: check and revise, more examples of essay introductions, other interesting articles, frequently asked questions about the essay introduction.

Your first sentence sets the tone for the whole essay, so spend some time on writing an effective hook.

Avoid long, dense sentences—start with something clear, concise and catchy that will spark your reader’s curiosity.

The hook should lead the reader into your essay, giving a sense of the topic you’re writing about and why it’s interesting. Avoid overly broad claims or plain statements of fact.

Examples: Writing a good hook

Take a look at these examples of weak hooks and learn how to improve them.

  • Braille was an extremely important invention.
  • The invention of Braille was a major turning point in the history of disability.

The first sentence is a dry fact; the second sentence is more interesting, making a bold claim about exactly  why the topic is important.

  • The internet is defined as “a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities.”
  • The spread of the internet has had a world-changing effect, not least on the world of education.

Avoid using a dictionary definition as your hook, especially if it’s an obvious term that everyone knows. The improved example here is still broad, but it gives us a much clearer sense of what the essay will be about.

  • Mary Shelley’s  Frankenstein is a famous book from the nineteenth century.
  • Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is often read as a crude cautionary tale about the dangers of scientific advancement.

Instead of just stating a fact that the reader already knows, the improved hook here tells us about the mainstream interpretation of the book, implying that this essay will offer a different interpretation.

Prevent plagiarism. Run a free check.

Next, give your reader the context they need to understand your topic and argument. Depending on the subject of your essay, this might include:

  • Historical, geographical, or social context
  • An outline of the debate you’re addressing
  • A summary of relevant theories or research about the topic
  • Definitions of key terms

The information here should be broad but clearly focused and relevant to your argument. Don’t give too much detail—you can mention points that you will return to later, but save your evidence and interpretation for the main body of the essay.

How much space you need for background depends on your topic and the scope of your essay. In our Braille example, we take a few sentences to introduce the topic and sketch the social context that the essay will address:

Now it’s time to narrow your focus and show exactly what you want to say about the topic. This is your thesis statement —a sentence or two that sums up your overall argument.

This is the most important part of your introduction. A  good thesis isn’t just a statement of fact, but a claim that requires evidence and explanation.

The goal is to clearly convey your own position in a debate or your central point about a topic.

Particularly in longer essays, it’s helpful to end the introduction by signposting what will be covered in each part. Keep it concise and give your reader a clear sense of the direction your argument will take.

Here's why students love Scribbr's proofreading services

Discover proofreading & editing

As you research and write, your argument might change focus or direction as you learn more.

For this reason, it’s often a good idea to wait until later in the writing process before you write the introduction paragraph—it can even be the very last thing you write.

When you’ve finished writing the essay body and conclusion , you should return to the introduction and check that it matches the content of the essay.

It’s especially important to make sure your thesis statement accurately represents what you do in the essay. If your argument has gone in a different direction than planned, tweak your thesis statement to match what you actually say.

To polish your writing, you can use something like a paraphrasing tool .

You can use the checklist below to make sure your introduction does everything it’s supposed to.

Checklist: Essay introduction

My first sentence is engaging and relevant.

I have introduced the topic with necessary background information.

I have defined any important terms.

My thesis statement clearly presents my main point or argument.

Everything in the introduction is relevant to the main body of the essay.

You have a strong introduction - now make sure the rest of your essay is just as good.

  • Argumentative
  • Literary analysis

This introduction to an argumentative essay sets up the debate about the internet and education, and then clearly states the position the essay will argue for.

The spread of the internet has had a world-changing effect, not least on the world of education. The use of the internet in academic contexts is on the rise, and its role in learning is hotly debated. For many teachers who did not grow up with this technology, its effects seem alarming and potentially harmful. This concern, while understandable, is misguided. The negatives of internet use are outweighed by its critical benefits for students and educators—as a uniquely comprehensive and accessible information source; a means of exposure to and engagement with different perspectives; and a highly flexible learning environment.

This introduction to a short expository essay leads into the topic (the invention of the printing press) and states the main point the essay will explain (the effect of this invention on European society).

In many ways, the invention of the printing press marked the end of the Middle Ages. The medieval period in Europe is often remembered as a time of intellectual and political stagnation. Prior to the Renaissance, the average person had very limited access to books and was unlikely to be literate. The invention of the printing press in the 15th century allowed for much less restricted circulation of information in Europe, paving the way for the Reformation.

This introduction to a literary analysis essay , about Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein , starts by describing a simplistic popular view of the story, and then states how the author will give a more complex analysis of the text’s literary devices.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is often read as a crude cautionary tale. Arguably the first science fiction novel, its plot can be read as a warning about the dangers of scientific advancement unrestrained by ethical considerations. In this reading, and in popular culture representations of the character as a “mad scientist”, Victor Frankenstein represents the callous, arrogant ambition of modern science. However, far from providing a stable image of the character, Shelley uses shifting narrative perspectives to gradually transform our impression of Frankenstein, portraying him in an increasingly negative light as the novel goes on. While he initially appears to be a naive but sympathetic idealist, after the creature’s narrative Frankenstein begins to resemble—even in his own telling—the thoughtlessly cruel figure the creature represents him as.

Your essay introduction should include three main things, in this order:

  • An opening hook to catch the reader’s attention.
  • Relevant background information that the reader needs to know.
  • A thesis statement that presents your main point or argument.

The length of each part depends on the length and complexity of your essay .

The “hook” is the first sentence of your essay introduction . It should lead the reader into your essay, giving a sense of why it’s interesting.

To write a good hook, avoid overly broad statements or long, dense sentences. Try to start with something clear, concise and catchy that will spark your reader’s curiosity.

A thesis statement is a sentence that sums up the central point of your paper or essay . Everything else you write should relate to this key idea.

The thesis statement is essential in any academic essay or research paper for two main reasons:

  • It gives your writing direction and focus.
  • It gives the reader a concise summary of your main point.

Without a clear thesis statement, an essay can end up rambling and unfocused, leaving your reader unsure of exactly what you want to say.

The structure of an essay is divided into an introduction that presents your topic and thesis statement , a body containing your in-depth analysis and arguments, and a conclusion wrapping up your ideas.

The structure of the body is flexible, but you should always spend some time thinking about how you can organize your essay to best serve your ideas.

How to Write a Descriptive Essay like a Pro

Descriptive Essay

A descriptive essay may sound a little intimidating, but in reality, it’s one of the easiest you could ever be told to write. It revolves around impressions, psychological associations, and imaginable situations and offers a lot you a lot of freedom. As a student, you’ll encounter it so many times; it will become the norm. Therefore, ensure you learn how to write a descriptive essay so you can brace yourself for what’s ahead.

Unlike most essays that involve collecting a response or convincing the reader to pick your side, a descriptive essay uses literary elements that charm all five senses of the reader. In other words, a descriptive essay focuses on describing the subject in a way that drives the reader to paint a picture in their mind. For instance, if you’re assigned a descriptive essay on an apple, you’re supposed to talk about how it looks and how it tastes. On top of that, add details of how it smells, and how it feels when someone holds it as well as its texture when you chew it.

How to Write a Good Descriptive Essay

As noted, a descriptive essay is one of the easiest essays you’ll ever handle. Not only because it involves describing, but also because it doesn’t require research, statistics, or special effort. With great imagination and the tips, we are about to outline, you’ll have what it takes to write a five start descriptive essay. But before we get to the tips, check out the structure of this essay first

          Structure of a Descriptive essay

Just like other essays, a descriptive essay is also made up of three main parts. Namely

          The introduction

Where the topic sentence and thesis statement are written. While it may sound easy, it’s often quite tricky to get it right because it’s not like other essays. Here are helpful steps on how to write a descriptive essay introduction like a pro

  • Identify the target audience. This will help you determine the most suitable language. For instance, if you’re writing for youths, consider starting with a sense of humor
  • Evaluate the essay’s subject. This will help you determine the right vocabulary to use while describing it.
  • Based on your evaluation craft a list of sensory details about the subject. For instance, if the subject is a person, write how they talk, how their walk, their physique, the smile, skin color and texture, hair color and texture or dressing style. In other words, the secret is in using words to paint a picture on the reader’s mind.
  • Create a draft and once you’re done proof read and edit and then write down your introduction.

          The body

Again, similar to other essays, the body of a descriptive essay is often made up of three to five paragraphs. The difference, however, is that in this essay, the first paragraph mostly focuses on giving in-depth details on the topic itself. The second one usually covers the environment while the last one gives a sensual and emotive description of how the subject affects anything that interacts with it.

          Conclusion

The conclusion of a descriptive essay also plays an ordinary role in that it ties in all the ideas.

How Do You Write A Descriptive Essay?

Now that you know what its structure is like, how do you write a good one? By keeping the tips below in mind

  • Start by Choosing and Analyzing a Topic

This kind of essay is often aimed at engaging with the readers on a personal level and making them feel how you feel towards a particular subject. Therefore, the key to writing an intriguing one is choosing a topic that’s close to your heart. It could be a person, an event, or a particular period in your life.

Once you make up your mind on the topic, the next step should be thoroughly analyzing it. This enables you to describe it in a way that allows a reader not only to feel like they’ve been in that situation or met the person before. Therefore, analyze to identify what exactly you’d like to describe. If it’s a person, what exactly do you want the readers to love or hate about them? If it’s an event, what about it did you like the most and why do you want the readers to feel that way as well. Proper analysis helps get your creative juices going, enabling you to broaden and give life to an idea that someone else would find shallow and challenging to write about.

Note Down Any Ideas You Plan on Using

Once you’ve analyzed your topic, write down any points that you’d like to include in your essay. The riveting bit about descriptive essays is that they don’t call for as much research as other essays. Therefore, this bit is easy.

Don’t Shy Away from Giving Details

With your list of ideas ready, it’s time to give them life. Take a piece of paper and create five columns, each column having one of the five senses. With that, give some life to your ideas. For instance, if your topic is about your trip to Paris, and you decide to talk about the delicious French stew you took, don’t just write, “the stew was delicious.” Go into details to help the reader create a picture. For instance, you could write something like, “The soup stew was nothing like I ever tasted. It was a combination of diced onions, garlic, and celery and had been cooked with wine, so it had a delicious smoky wine flavor.”

Going into details like that is what makes your essay exciting and also what stimulates the mind of the reader to view the subject from your perspective. In the example above, for instance, merely writing the stew was delicious won’t achieve the effect you want. The reader could think about the stew they ate during lunch and won’t find anything intriguing about your essay.

By going deeper into details and telling them what it was cooked with, you get them hooked and make them want to read more. Therefore don’t shy away from giving details. They create drama, transforming boring elements into fascinating details.

Maximize on Your Senses

As noted, descriptive essay writing is all about engaging the reader using sensory elements. Therefore you should engage them using all your five senses. For instance, if you’re describing the looks of your subject, make sure you describe their skin color and smoothness, the texture of their hair, height, and build.

Choose the Write Words

Wondering how to write a great descriptive essay? The secret is the vocabulary. To maximize your senses and go into details properly, you ought to have an excellent grammar. That said, work on improving your grammatical command. Review essays written on the same topic as yours by renowned writers to get a grasp of the kind of language you should use while crafting yours.

What to Write a Descriptive Essay On

There are just so many topics to write a descriptive essay on. From those that describe a particular important person in your life, to events and ceremonies. Here are a few to get you started

  • Your dream home
  • A life-changing event
  • Your most recent vacation
  • Your favorite dish
  • Moving to a new country
  • Your first love
  • The most significant achievement in your life
  • A funny memory
  • Wonders of the ancient world
  • Your Favorite childhood memory
  • Your thoughts on the cryptocurrency
  • The most cherished moment in your life
  • The best restaurant in your town
  • What nightlife in your city is like
  • Your dream vacation destination

As you can see, learning how to write a descriptive essay is an easy affair. You only need to use your words creatively. It gives you the freedom to express your thoughts and ideas in a way that no other essay allows. The best bit about it is that you don’t have to spend an endless amount of time researching the subject. The main purpose of an essay report is to provide a clear and concise overview of what was done, what was accomplished, and what the results were. A good essay report will be well-organized, factual, and objective. It should also be easy to read and follow.

There are a few important things to keep in mind when writing an essay report:

Ø  Keep your writing concise and to the point. The more information you can pack into a single sentence, the better.

Ø  Use concrete examples and figures to illustrate your points.

Ø  Make sure your essay reports examples are easy to read and follow. Use clear formatting and organized paragraphs.

Tips for Writing an Essay Report

When it comes to writing an essay, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. One of the most important things is ensuring that your report is well-organized and easy to read. Here are a few tips for writing an Essay Report like a pro:

1. Start with an introduction:

Before getting started, always have an introduction ready that will set the tone for your report. This will give readers a better idea of what they're getting into and help them follow your argument more easily.

2. Choose a clear thesis:

Thesis statements are at the heart of any good argument, and they also play a similar role in essays. To write a strong essay, you must be sure that your thesis statement is clear and concise. Take some time to develop this statement, so it's both convincing and accurate.

3. Write Clearly and Concisely:

While it's important to develop a strong thesis statement, it's also important to write clearly and concisely so that readers can understand what you're saying. Stick to one main point per sentence, and use short, concise words when possible.

4. Be Concise:

A good rule of thumb is to keep sentences short and simple when possible and to avoid writing more than two or three paragraphs per essay.

5. Use Effective Voice:

One of the most important components of an effective essay is effective voice. This means that you must use clear and precise language so your readers can understand what you're saying, even if they're not native English speakers

6. Make Sure the Essay is Organized:

To be effective, each paragraph in a well-written essay should have a specific function (i.e., support your thesis). It should also flow smoothly from one point to another without missing any necessary steps.

7. Proofread:

Finally, you should proofread your essay before submitting it to the college's admissions board in case of spelling or grammar errors.

If you follow these steps, you can be sure that your essays will be very effective and help you stand out from other applicants.

Paper Format

Consistency in the order, structure, and format of a paper allows readers to focus on a paper’s content rather than its presentation.

To format a paper in APA Style, writers can typically use the default settings and automatic formatting tools of their word-processing program or make only minor adjustments.

The guidelines for paper format apply to both student assignments and manuscripts being submitted for publication to a journal. If you are using APA Style to create another kind of work (e.g., a website, conference poster, or PowerPoint presentation), you may need to format your work differently in order to optimize its presentation, for example, by using different line spacing and font sizes. Follow the guidelines of your institution or publisher to adapt APA Style formatting guidelines as needed.
