दशहरा का ये तयौहार मुख्य रूप से भगवान राम और रावण पर उनकी विजय से जुड़ा है। भगवान राम को कौन नहीं जनता है, यह पर्व अयोध्या (Ayodhya) के राजकुमार राम की है, जिनका विवाह मिथिला की राजकुमारी सीता से हुआ था। राम और सीता के विवाह के पश्चात राम को उनके पिता राजा दशरथ के वचनवद्ध होने के कारण उनको 14 वर्ष के वनवास भोगना पढ़ा। पिता की आज्ञा मानकर राम वनवास जाने के लिए अपने राजमहल से निकले उनके साथ सीता माता भी जाने को तैयार हो गई, भाई प्रेम के कारण लक्ष्मण ये सब देख न सके और भ्राता राम और माता सीता के साथ वन के लिए प्रस्थान कर लिया। राम दंडक वन (दक्षिण भारत) में अपनी पत्नी सीता और भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ वनवास काट रहे थे। उस समय कई राक्षसों द्वारा तीनों को परेशान किया गया, लेकिन राम के आगे किसकी चलती। राम ने सबको पराजित किया। 

दशहरा पर निबंध (Essay on Dussehra in Hindi) 500 शब्दों में

500 शब्दों में दशहरा पर निबंध कुछ इस प्रकार है – 

लक्ष्मण द्वारा रावण की बहन की नाक काट देने की वजह से लंका के राजा लंकेश को बहुत गुस्सा आया और उसने इसका प्रतिशोध लेने के लिए माता सीता का हरण किया। रावण जानता था कि वह माता सीता का कोई साधारण स्त्री नहीं है, उनका हरण कर पाना सरल नहीं है। क्योंकि सीता अकेले जरूर है, परन्तु मायावी शक्तियां सदैव उनके साथ होंगी। जिसके कारण कभी उन तक नहीं पहुंच सकता है। तभी रावण ने उस समय एक साधु के वेश में आकर सीता का छल के द्वारा माता सीता का हरण कर लिया और वह उन्हें अपने राज्य ‘लंका’ ले गया, जोकि वर्तमान समय में श्रीलंका के नाम से पुकारा जाता है। 

राम को मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम कहा जाता है, क्योंकि उनमें निस्सल राजकुमार, एक श्रेष्ठ धनुषधारी योद्धा और नैतिक मूल्य के गुण थे। इस युद्ध में उनकी मुलाकात अपने प्रिय भक्त हनुमान से हुई, जिन्होंने पूरी लंका को अपनी पूंछ के बल पर जला दिया था।  इस युद्ध में हनुमान के साथ, सुग्रीव, जामवंत अंगद जैसे कई वीर योद्धा शामिल थे। समय बीतता गया और राम की सेना लंका में प्रवेश करने वाली थी, लेकिन श्रीराम नहीं चाहते थे कि युद्ध हो और सब विनाश की चपेट में आए। युद्ध से होने वाले विनाश से बचने के लिए राम ने अंगद को लंका में शांतिदूत बनाकर भेजा था। वहां रावण द्वारा अंगद का बहुत उपहास और अपमान किया गया, जिससे क्रोधित होकर अंगद ने पूरी सभा में ही प्रस्ताव रख दिया कि जो कोई उनका पैर जमीन से हिला देगा, तो वे हार मान लेंगे और श्रीराम व पूरी सेना के साथ वापस अयोध्या को लौट जाएंगे। कोई उनके पैर को टस से मस नहीं कर सका।   

पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार कहा जाता है की राम और रावण का ये युद्ध लगभग 13 दिनों तक चला और अंत में भगवान राम लंका के राजा रावण को मारने में सफल रहे। और युद्ध के 20 दिन बाद अपना वनवास पूरा करके माता सीता और भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ अपनी नगरी अयोध्या वापस लौटे आए। राम के लौटने की खुशी में पूरे नगर के देशवासियों ने नगर को दीपों ने रोशन कर दिया था। इस उत्साह और ख़ुशी के दिन से ही पूरे भारत वर्ष में इस दिन को दीपावली के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

दुर्गा पूजा और दशहरा देखा जाएं तो दोनों बुराई पर अच्छाई की जीत का प्रतीक माना जाता है। इस दिन देवी दुर्गा ने नौ दिनों तक चले भयंकर युद्ध में दुष्ट राक्षस महिषासुर का वध किया था और नवरात्रि के दसवें दिन उसका वध किया था इस रूप में हम कह सकते हैं कि, बुराई पर अच्छाई की विजय हुई थी। कहा जाता है कि युद्ध में जाने से पहले भगवान राम ने शक्ति और वीरता के लिए देवी दुर्गा की पूजा की थी। हम हर वर्ष सितंबर-अक्टूबर के माह में दशहरा अत्यधिक हर्षोल्लास के साथ मनाते हैं और हर गाँव या शहर में मेलों का आनंद लेते हैं।

दशहरा न केवल हिंदू धर्म के विश्वास का एक प्रमुख अंग है, अपितु यह दिन “असत्य पर सत्य की जीत” का प्रतीक है। ये दिन भारतीय लोगों पर भी जोर देता है।

1955 से रावण दहन कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत हुई। यह प्रचलन 1954 में दशहरा कमेटी के गठन के बाद से शुरू हुआ।
