Amazing stories. I am a hindi learner and it helps me a lot. But I have some doubts like in this sentence मुर्गा की अकल ठिकाने. Why it is “ki” and not “ka”? Another one is कालिया को मिली सजा. Why it is “mili” and not “mila”?

Creative Writing in Hindi – रचनात्मक लेखन क्या है और कोर्स

Tomy Jackson

  • Creative Writing

Creative Writing

Difference Between Creative Writing And Content Writing समझ गए होंगे । ज्यादा जानकारी के लिए आर्टिकल पढ़ें:

  • Content Writing की पूरी जानकारी

Types of Creative Writing in Hindi

Types of Creative Writing

  • Listening Skills

Creative Writing

One size fits all

  • Feedback क्या होता है ?
  • Proofreading क्या होता है ?
  • Copywriting क्या है ?
  • Technical Writing क्या है ?
  • Skill Development क्या है ?
  • Field of study क्या है ?

How to teach hindi to your child.

Hindi is a first or second language in half of the primary schools in India, according to NCERT. Apart from its importance in the kindergarten years and beyond at school, Hindi is an important language that offers many social, cognitive and career benefits .

Hindi learning for the kindergarten years comprises speaking, reading and writing skills. Since Hindi is a phonetic language, the teaching starts with alphabet - letter recognition and correct pronunciation, and proceeds to adding vowel marks (diacritic marks or 'matra') to the letters. Once this stage is over, the child can read almost everything, as in Hindi, reading the syllables sequentially is all that is needed to read the word.

When Hindi is not the Parents' First Language

Is hindi difficult to learn, why learning hindi is actually easy for a child, stepwise goals of hindi learning for preschooler:, required resources, how to proceed: step by step.

However, Hindi is the mother tongue of only about one-third of the people in India. So, many of us are familiar with Hindi, or can speak it as a second or third language, but teaching it to our preschooler child is a challenging task for us.

My family is multi-lingual and we are not native speakers of Hindi. So, teaching our child Hindi has been a learning journey for me, and I want to share the tips that can help you to teach Hindi to your child as well.

Too many letters in the alphabet!

Many people in India who are multilingual consider Hindi an easy language. Teaching Hindi to kindergarten kids looks daunting sometimes because the number of letters is more than the 26 letters of English. However, they are arranged really scientifically, and once mastered, the child can read correctly everything. We strongly recommend teaching children about vargas (वर्ग)

The grammar is tricky

The grammar (especially gender of inanimate objects) is difficult for people whose native language does not have gender rules for verbs (jata hai, jati hai) and possessive words (ka, ke, ki). But still many people can manage to learn basic passable Hindi very quickly. It is very easy for kids to learn Hindi because their brains are in language learning phase. We have discussed how to teach children the correct gender of all nouns here .

Do not be discouraged if you do not speak Hindi. Just read this article, make a plan, and go ahead with it.

If you are an Indian who speaks one of the major languages of India, then you already have a few advantages for teaching Hindi:

1. Most Indian languages and scripts have partly originated from common ancient languages and have a lot of similarities.

2. The Devanagari script (the Hindi alphabet) is extremely logical and scientific. Like many other Indian scripts, it is easy to learn if one knows the logic.

3. The letters and their sounds are exact and logic based. Hindi is written as it is spoken. The combination of letters are unambiguous, that is, there is consistency in how they are pronounced. There is no confusion like English, where p-u-t and b-u-t have similar spellings but pronounced differently.

4. There are no upper case and lower case letters.

5. There is enough spoken Hindi resources in the form of songs, movies and cartoons, for children to listen to, for learning the sounds of Hindi. There are a lot of early level story books in Hindi from Pratham and Tulika Books, for kids to practice their reading skills.

Playful Home Education also offers you a lot of free resources in our Subscriber's Page for Hindi learning for kindergarten till Class 1, and the most comprehensive foundational Hindi learning worksheets sets for kindergarten (LKG, UKG) till Class 1 with play-based learning activities that teach Hindi in a stepwise, graded, fun method.

1. Alphabet Book

Hindi alphabet books are easily available in book shops as well as on online stores. It is also included in our Hindi worksheets bundle (Level 1) . We also offer free audio support for correct pronunciation of letters to our customers. Choose a book that offers multiple words for a letter instead of just one word for a letter. For example, the books should not have only अ से अनार, it should also have अ से अदरक, अ से अजगर, etc. This helps the child to learn the sound of the letter instead of just memorizing अ से अनार (a se anar).

2. Hindi Learning Worksheets and Books

3. Hindi Books and Listening Resources

Helps in learning pronunciation, sentence structure and vocabulary.

The best thing for a child to learn a language is to hear it being spoken at home. However, in non-Hindi speaking homes, it is not possible. Then you can use the content available on TV and online to expose your child to the sounds of Hindi.

Rhymes : A lot of rhymes in Hindi can be found online, in both text form or video form. Pre-Nursery Rhymes And Story Book by Dreamland Publications is an excellent collection. Searching for Hindi rhymes on YouTube will provide you with a lot of videos. Listen to them personally and make a playlist of 20 songs. Do not go for endless scrolling and swiping to watch too much content that promotes addiction and unhealthy amounts of screen time.

Books : Books are essential for the journey of language learning. If you speak Hindi, do read Hindi stories to your child from a very early age. At least 2 - 3 per week. If you don't speak Hindi, let the child learn the letters and matras a little and then start encouraging the child to read stories. You can get Bilingual Hindi story books from Tulika Books . These are helpful for a non-Hindi speaking parent to follow the story and explain to the child. Hindi early reader books are available from Pratham Books as well.

You can find a lot of FREE Hindi books (PDF files) and Audio books of early Hindi learning on our Subscriber's Page. If you are a subscriber, just enter the page and check out the content. If you haven't signed up yet, you can subscribe here .

Here are some great books for early readers of Hindi:

Stage 1 Books

Stage 2 Books

Stage 3 Books

Videos for Parents : These are videos by a Hindi teacher, which are useful for a parent to watch in order to teach a child. ( YouTube Link )

Songs : Choose an easy Hindi song either from movies or from nationalistic or children's songs and sing along your child to teach them this song.

Movies : Select a few good children's movies which are not fast-paced. Preferably non-animated, with real people. These can be Hindi movies, or English movies dubbed in Hindi. Many such movies are available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, etc. Select 5 such movies, and watch them once in a week or once in 2 weeks, with your child. You can watch 1/3 or half at a time to avoid too much screen time. While watching, it is preferable to watch it on a large monitor or TV instead of mobile or tablet.

Android Phone Apps : Apps are often useful for learning a new language for adults. However, a child's brain learns language differently. However, it is useful to have apps for learning along with all the other resources mentioned here. The apps can help you with:

learning the correct pronunciation of letters and words

learn a few common phrases

learn spoken numbers and other words of daily life

practice in a fun, gamified way and to add variety to your child's Hindi lessons

However, not all apps are useful and some even have audios that are not native pronunciation of North India. These are a few apps I suggest:

1. Speak Hindi - Android, contains ads. The app is English-based, for great for parents who cannot read Hindi well. This has authentic pronunciations, and contains topics of alphabet, greetings, expressions, numbers, calendar, shopping, work, food, kitchen, fruits, vegetables, spices, grocery, body parts, time, weather, sports, animals, health, etc. This is usable for kids, along with other resources.

b. Magnetic Letters and Magnetic White Board

A magnetic white board is a key equipment for home learning. It can be used in versatile ways. It is a good investment that helps in teaching a child languages, maths, drawing, puzzles, games, etc.

Magnetic Board : This is one option. There are many more available, including wooden framed ones.

This is how I proceeded with my child. Every child is different, and you may need to experiment a bit to see how you can best teach your child.

1. Start teaching letters with play

Start with vowels, showing the letter and the sound. You can also start it as a play using the toys suggested.

Once you have covered the vowels, focus on repeating the sound for first few days. Side by side, start introducing 1 -2 consonant letters in a day, building up to teaching one whole line (varga) comprising of 5 consonant letters.

Play games on the white board at least once a week with letters. Draw silly things from a letter, draw a letter chasing another letter, play hidden letters, etc.

Tell the child right at the beginning the place of articulation (the part of mouth that is used for pronouncing the letter). So for k varga, ka, kha, ga, gha, nga. we are using the throat - and keep your fingers lightly on your throat to show that these are throat letters. You can read more the pronunciation of vowels and consonants in these articles:

Tips for teaching Hindi letter sounds to children

Hindi pronunciation tips - 1 (vowels)

Hindi pronunciation tips - 2 (consonants)

Hindi pronunciation tips - 3 (Nasal sounds)

Goal: At the end, the child should be able to recite the whole Hindi alphabet.

2. Identification of Letters and Sounds

Slowly after you have finished teaching the vowel sounds, proceed to identification of vowel letters. Use the suggested toys, flashcards, as well as activity worksheets (matching, circling, colouring activities, no writing) with lot of repetitive practice and games. Use whiteboard to play letter games.

Remember to take things slow, and proceed very slowly. Keep learning sessions short. But regularity is important and work on Hindi learning at least 4 to 5 days a week.

Goal : By the end of this phase, child should be able to recognize all the letters and their sounds, and recite the alphabet in order.

3. Writing Practice

If your child's motor skills are developed well enough to handle a pencil properly, you can proceed to writing practice of letters. Take things slow.

You can also let the child draw the letters on a whiteboard using board markers. This helps to keep the fun alive in the process of learning letters. If the writing time is long and there is no fun involved, some kids get bored and refuse to write. Montessori methods and play-based strategies are useful for such children. Incorporating colouring activities, drawing activities, games involving writing a few letters and identifying a few letters and tracing activities are all helpful methods.

Goal : At the end of this phase, the child should be able to recite and write the whole alphabet.

Playful Home Education Hindi worksheets have prewriting, tracing and writing sheets, that you can print out as many times as you want for repeated practice.

3. Word Formation

After the child can recognize letters, it is very easy to proceed to reading words in Hindi. In Hindi just by reading the letters placed one after another, one can read the words.

Worksheets are very helpful in this step as well as playing with flashcards and magnetic letters on board. You can also play simplified version of Hangman on a white board.

Note : For word reading practice, word drills are used where lists or flashcards of words are given and the child has to read them aloud correctly. If you are not a Hindi speaker, do not get worried about trying to tell the meaning of every word unless the child is curious, because these practice words without matras are often difficult to remember without context. It is enough for the child to be able to read the letters correctly.

4. Matra Addition: Vowel Diacritic Marks

The next step is to teach the child how the vowels are added to consonants in Hindi. In English, we just place the vowel letter after a consonant. In Hindi, and other Indian languages, the addition of vowel to a consonant is denoted by adding a certain mark to the consonant, called Matra in Hindi.

In contrast to learning letters, the learning of matras should be started with writing activity from the beginning itself.

The learning of all the consonants with addition of all the vowels is called ' Barahkhadi '. You can help the child do barahkhadi practice using Hindi sulekh books, single lined notebooks or our worksheets . Writing practice for a few minutes should be done at least 3 times a week.

5. Reading Practice

The moment the child can read letters with some matras, start reading activities using story books. This is a crucial component of learning Hindi. The more the child sees the words and reads, with or without help, the quicker they will learn the matras.

Watching videos should be restricted to 30 minutes over a week, while reading activities should be done daily, at least for 10 -15 minutes. If the child is learning 3 languages, then do the reading activities of 2 languages per day. Just for 10 minutes each, in different times of the day.

Reading activity includes reading to the child, reading with the child, and the child reading the book with help from parent. As the child progresses in their Hindi learning, proceed to advanced levels of books.

6. Singing Practice

Spoken Hindi can be improved only by speaking! And singing is easier than speaking. Many people who do not speak Hindi can sing some Hindi songs. Similarly, teach your child a few rhymes and songs, and they will be more willing to speak this language.

7. Sanyukt Akshar Learning

Sanyukt akshar are consonant conjuncts, or blends. Unlike English, these are not created by writing letters one after another. In Hindi, the addition of two or three consonants leads to a different form of a letter, called the sanyukt akshar (= sanyukt letter). These are mostly easy to recognize, except a few. These have to be learned by writing and reading. Our Level 2 Bundle has a section on Sanyukt Akshar and we also have a separate worksheet solely on Sanyukt Akshar.

Once your child has finished learning the sanyukt akshar, they can now independently read all sort of story books. Gradually, by reading story books and watching Hindi kids' movies and series, the child will be able to develop a rich vocabulary and understand and speak better.

Our 40 paged Hindi Sanyukt Akshar Worksheet with separate appendix of word meanings and solutions brings you a complete solution to teaching conjuncts or consonant blends. Rules of conjunct formation, reading practice, conceptual explanations and various activities will help your child learn Sanyukt Akshar quickly and with a strong foundation. How to Teach Hindi Writing to Kids

Learning to read and write the Hindi language is not a very difficult task if you use the right teaching methods. Start with basics like vowels ( swars ) and consonants ( vyanjans ) . Once the kid’s get the tricks then you will not have to worry about how to teach Hindi writing to kids.

1. Make a Varnamala Chart

Before learning to write any language, children should be aware of the alphabets in that particular language. So make a chart in the presence of your child. Start with simple alphabets like अ, उ, ए etc.

Practice every day at least 5 letters and when you are sure that children are thorough with those letters introduce more letters. Encourage them to make colourful varnamala charts by themselves.

2. Learning Vowels and Consonants

Understanding the vowels is the first stage in studying Hindi as a language. As its vowels ( swar ) are what connect to the consonants ( vyanjan ), it’s crucial to master them first. Compared to English, learning Hindi swar is much easier because the pronunciation of a word in English varies based on where the vowel is placed in the term. In Hindi, however, the vowel is always pronounced the same way, regardless of where it appears in a word. Mentioned below are the basic steps to master swar and vyanjan .

Teach short vowels: In Hindi, there are five short vowels. While learning short vowels it is important to make strokes also because if they correctly use strokes it will be easier for them to connect more letters and form small words.

Long vowels:  If a kid is familiar with short vowels, the next step is to teach them long vowels. The only slight variation comes in pronunciation and structure because the sound of a long vowel is a long version of a short vowel. Along with that, teach them to add an extra stroke also.

Vowels are the link to consonants because when we connect vowels and consonants with the real sounds of Hindi words. Therefore vowels have a major role in how to teach writing to kids.

Teach consonants: Once children learn vowels the next step is to teach consonants. There are 36 consonants in Hindi. Teach them the concept of Hindi Barakadhi because in Hindi two distinctive sounds can be produced when we place vowels behind them.

3. Writing Short Words

How to Teach Hindi Alphabets to Kids?

Mastering any language to write is simple if one invests the necessary time, effort, and commitment. This case is relevant to Hindi since it necessitates continual effort and practice. Keep in mind that practice makes perfect, and you’ll need both patience and practice on how to teach Hindi alphabets to kids.

1. Do Not Rush

It is not possible to learn the Hindi alphabet in a single day. Spend some time with your kid, getting to know each vowel and consonant. Every day, it is suggested that kids can memorize five letters. This is a simple method of learning Hindi letters that will assist your kids significantly in the long run.

2. Tracing Alphabets

Tracing alphabets can help youngsters improve their motor skills abilities, which will assist them in other activities like learning to write. Children’s hands and coordination are fine-tuned by tracing curved and straight lines, circles, and other forms, making the transition to writing Hindi alphabets simpler. Tracing dot-to-dot puzzles can help children grasp the curves and lines of the Hindi alphabets, which will aid them in the construction of letters daily.

3. Find a Parallel Letter to Which your Child May Connect

You can attempt some fun ways to teach youngsters how to write the Hindi alphabet occasionally. For example, you can advise your kid to memorize the form of rupees when teaching ‘Na,’ or to recall the capital letter ‘R’ but without the vertical line when teaching ‘Ra. ’ So connecting letters to objects and other letters is an effective way to teach kids to write Hindi alphabets. Another example is using the 3 and English letter T to form the letter ‘Aa’.

4. Take Each Step Slowly

Choose the number of alphabets that your child learns each day and don’t try to make them do it at once. Begin with elementary alphabets, then half alphabets, and finally grammar and maintain a moderate speed at first. After they’ve become used to it, gradually expand the number.

5. Teach them to Draw Lines

Teaching your preschooler or kindergartener how to draw simple lines, such as an upright line, a lying line, a loop, a curve, and so on is an excellent way to teach Hindi alphabets to kids. Since all letters are formed using only these lines, it is simple to master Hindi letters. Firstly kids learn Swar, after that you can teach them Vyanjan , and once they learn vyanjan kids will be able to write words without using matras .

6. Colouring and Making Alphabet Poster

Once your kid starts writing alphabets, provide them with a worksheet with alphabets that they colour. It is a very good idea to teach Hindi writing to kids. Colouring alphabets have many benefits like it improves fine and gross motor strengths, hand-eye coordination, sensory processing, pencil grasp, creativity, letter identification, etc.

How to Teach Hindi Matra to Kids?

Hindi matras might be perplexing, therefore it’s important to understand the notion right away. Hindi matras are generally taught at school from an early class onwards. Each sound ( swar ) has a matra connected to it, and when we pronounce a word, we pronounce it based on the matra connected with each letter. Let’s find out how to teach Hindi matra to kids.

1. Read Aloud

Pronunciation has a key role in learning Hindi matras . Reading aloud is the most effective technique to learn sound and pronunciation. It assists the kid in comprehending how a word is spoken, as well as how a matra is associated with that word. Reading aloud will help kids to understand the two sorts of sounds in Hindi and could learn how each matras are pronounced differently.

The sound of ‘u ki matra’ is short, but the sound of ‘oo ki matra’ is lengthy. This idea may be rather perplexing, but reading the phrases for each matra can assist your youngster in determining which matra to use based on how it is spoken.

2. Dictation

Dictation is a technique in which you pronounce a word out loud and your kid writes it down. It is an excellent way to teach your kid the distinction between short and long sounds, as well as how to recognize the sound and write the matras appropriately. Dictation is always an excellent method to start because you can encourage your kid to write the matras with each letter of the Hindi alphabet and they will also be able to pronounce those letters they are written.

3. Practice, Practice, and Practice

Children frequently mistake numerous identical matras , therefore it’s important to practice constantly to minimize confusion. So to prevent confusion, ensure your youngster knows how every matra’s pronunciation and sound varies. Helping him or her differentiate and practising it from the start is one of the best methods to teach Hindi matra to kids.

Best Resources To Help Your Kids Learn Hindi In 2024

Learning Hindi , the number one language in India and 3rd most spoken in the world, will give your children a headstart when they’re older.

Not only that, they’ll learn a beautiful language deeply immersed in storytelling and poetry.

But kids also tend to have an incredibly short attention span .

This is why I’ve picked the best children’s resources for learning Hindi via apps, books , movies, comics/magazines, and TV shows that won’t bore them.

These are guaranteed to hold their attention by making learning fun.

What are the best apps for children to learn Hindi? 🇮🇳

Here are the best apps in terms of a large number of downloads (proving popularity) and whether the app has been recently updated.

There are quite a few apps that aim to teach Hindi to children. However, I found many of them were no longer supported or had low download numbers. These apps could potentially harm your phone by importing malware and viruses.

My favorite Hindi apps consist only of those proven to make learning Hindi fun for children (with at least 50,000 downloads). They’re also updated regularly.

1. Hindi Kids Learning Alphabets

With over one million downloads, your kids will be in great company learning Hindi from this app.

They will learn the Hindi alphabet, months, weekdays, numbers, shapes, colours, animals, fruit and vegetables, occupations, and even basic computer information.

Every image also has the correct pronunciation, so your children learn to speak Hindi correctly.

2. Learn Hindi - 11,000 Words

As the name suggests, this app will teach your children a huge 11,000 words through games and short, fun lessons.

They will have 10 levels to complete. You or they can also set daily goals to track progress.

This is a popular app with over half a million downloads, so you know it works.

3. Hindi Alphabets Learning And Writing

With over 50,000 downloads, this is the perfect app if you want your kids to focus on learning the Hindi alphabet.

They will learn to speak _and _write each letter. The app utilises flashcards with pictures of associated objects and correct pronunciation.

4. Hindi For Kids

This is another app that focuses on the Hindi alphabet. The emphasis is on pronouncing Hindi letters correctly, not writing letters.

Therefore this app is ideal if you’re children simply want to speak and not write Hindi. They’ll learn over 300 Hindi words and sounds through Hindi letters.

5. Learn Hindi Quickly Offline

This app has had over 50,000 downloads and is one of the most consistently reviewed apps on my list.

Your kids will learn 1159 common Hindi phrases. As the name suggests, this app works perfectly without network coverage - ideal if you want your kids to learn on the go.

What are the top TV shows / cartoons for children to learn Hindi?

I’ve put together the best children’s TV shows or cartoons in Hindi that are not only great for teaching Hindi - they have ‘hidden’ benefits.

1. Chhota Bheem

With over 60 million viewers in India, most Indian kids or teenagers in India will know Chhota Bheem. This is arguably the number one Hindi cartoon for kids.

It’s about a super-strong, intelligent 9-year-old boy who is always ready to help the poor and needy.

Your children will love following Chhota Bheem’s adventures as he rights wrongs while having fun.

The hidden benefit here is that, despite starting in 2008, this show is so popular that episodes are still being made. Your kids can eagerly look forward to new episodes that teach them Hindi while they enjoy the adventures.

2. Motu Patlu

Your children will love the adventures of Motu and Patlu as a modern-day Indian version of Laurel & Hardy. Motu is always the one creating problems while Patlu has to solve them.

This CGI animated TV show aired for several years, becoming super popular. Unfortunately, no new episodes have been made since 2016, but that still leaves hundreds of episodes for your kids to enjoy.

The hidden benefit here is that Motu and Patlu spend many episodes travelling to other parts of India as well as foreign countries. Your children will learn key facts about different countries and regions of India.

3. Mahabharata

The Mahabharat is one of the two major religious epics of ancient India. If you’re unfamiliar with it, think of the mythology of the ancient Greeks or Egyptians.

The difference is that while these other religions have died, the Mahabharat is part of India’s religious identity. The story is woven into all aspects of Indian life.

This animated film follows the story of the mighty Pandavas brothers who must battle their evil cousins with the help of Lord Krishna.

Your children will not only learn Hindi but also discover a key part of Indian culture that informs the morals and ethics that Indians live by even today.

4. Ramayana

The other major epic is Ramayana, the life story of Lord Rama, who defeats the evil demon Ravana.

As with the Mahabharata, your kids will love the epic story of good against evil and right triumphing over wrong while learning Hindi. The hidden benefit is that they’ll also learn a key component of Indian culture and identity.

5. Peppa Pig

Yes, I know Peppa Pig is not Indian. However, did you know that many Peppa Pig adventures have been dubbed in Hindi?

This is ideal if your kids are not in the mood for a new show and want to learn Hindi while watching something familiar.

What are the best movies for children to learn Hindi?

Westerners underestimate the power of Bollywood. It can be a huge catalyst for teaching your kids Hindi with fantastic films that will entertain them throughout.

Expect your children to ask for repeated viewings!

1. Taare Zameen Par

This beautiful film won many awards in India and was even India’s official entry for the 2009 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film.

It follows the story of 8-year-old Ishaan, who is flunking school because of his undiagnosed dyslexia.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is the sensitive teacher who diagnoses Ishaan’s condition. He educates Ishaan’s parents and society as a whole on dyslexia as well as other conditions such as autism.

This film ushered in a seachange in attitudes in India towards children with various conditions. Your children will learn not only Hindi but also compassion, tolerance, and understanding for all.

2. Krrish series ( Koi… Mil Gaya , Krrish and Krrish 3 )

If your kids are fans of Marvel superhero films, India’s first superhero series won’t disappoint.

Follow Krrish’s father from humble beginnings in the first ‘prequel’ film (Koi… Mil Gaya) as a mentally disabled boy. A chance encounter with an alien allows him to pass on superhero powers to his son, Krrish.

What’s great about this series is that it’s still going strong. The fourth film is due to be released in 2024.

Your kids can learn Hindi by binge-watching the first three films. Then, treat them to the big screen experience with the next instalment.

3. Mr India

This Bollywood classic from 1986 still enthrals children and adults alike.

Follow the adventures of Arun, a street violinist who takes care of ten orphans. He discovers how to become invisible and takes on the evil Mogambo, who wants to conquer and rule India.

Your children will love the good versus evil story with the over-the-top villain in Mogambo. (You might enjoy recognising the actor from Indiana Jones - Temple of Doom.)

At the same time, they’re learning Hindi and watching a film that is the Wizard of Oz of Bollywood - its cultural significance is that important.

4. The Jungle Book

So many people are unaware that this famous story is Indian. The adventures of ‘man cub’ Mowgli and his friends are set in India’s deep jungles of the Madhya Pradesh region.

This is the Hindi dubbed version of Disney’s most recent live-action film. It’s ideal for children who need something familiar while learning something new.

Not only that, they may find it fascinating that a real-life Mowgli would have likely spoken Hindi and not English. They’re learning the true language of the classic story.

Please note. The Hindi-dubbed version is only available via Hotstar, an Indian channel. Therefore you will need a good VPN service to access the content from outside India.

5. Chillar Party

This is a wonderful tale of the power of kids when they work together. Follow the inspiring journey of Akram, Arjun and their friends as they battle to save their beloved street dog (and all other street dogs in Mumbai) from being euthanised by politicians.

While learning Hindi, your children will learn how influential they can be when they fight for the rights of all, including animals.

What are the best comics/magazines for children to learn Hindi?

I’ve picked the best comics/magazines in terms of fun, popularity, and additional aspects they can teach your kids.

This is arguably the most popular children’s magazine ever in India. It’s been going since 1968 and still going strong.

Your children can expect comic strips, short stories, jokes, and puzzles to keep them entertained while they learn.

There is also a Champak Plus edition geared towards schooling and education. This is an ideal way to sneak in some other education besides learning Hindi.

And if your children are learning Hindi fast, there’s even an annual story-writing contest they can enter.

This is another popular children’s magazine that’s been going since the early 80s and, to this day, boasts circulation numbers of 300,000 per issue.

Expect quizzes, stories, comics, and puzzles to keep your little ones engaged.

As with Champak, Tinkle has become an integral part of the growing-up experience for Indians for several generations. Your children will not only learn Hindi. They’ll wow different generations of Indians with their knowledge of these magazines.

Tinkle also encourages their young readers to send stories or features they will consider printing.

And there is an official Tinkle website for your children to get more puzzles and games.

3. Chacha Chaudhary

This is a much-loved Indian comic book, which has sold over 10 million copies to date. It features the inspiring Chacha Chaudhary, a wise old man who proves through his adventures that the brain is far superior to brawn.

Your children can expect fun capers and moral lessons while learning Hindi.

It’s also been made into a popular television series - your kids may learn Hindi faster using two different mediums.

4. Amar Chitra Katha

If you want your children to learn not only Hindi but also understand India’s culture and religions, you can’t go wrong with Amar Chitra Katha.

This is the oldest known comic from India, starting in 1967 and still going strong after selling a colossal 90 million copies to date.

The founder created it after the shocking discovery that Indian children in the 60s knew about Roman and Greek mythology but had no understanding of their own heritage, traditions, and mythology.

Therefore, inside Amar Chitra Katha, your children can expect to learn the rich history and folklore India has to offer while learning Hindi.

Not only that, the creators have made it their mission to be far more inclusive in recent times.

You won’t just find stories about well-known Hindu deities and personalities. There are issues dedicated to important Muslim and Christian personalities, such as the Taj Mahal, Jesus, and Mother Teresa. Some issues even cover foreign personalities, such as Albert Einstein.

This is India’s own female superhero, who transforms from a dowdy homemaker into Shakti, an incarnation of the warrior goddess Kali.

This stands apart from other comics as the central character is female. As you can expect, many of Shakti’s adventures are to do with righting the wrongs against women worldwide.

It’s interesting to note that she is the strongest of all superheroes in the Raj Comics universe, including the male superheroes.

This is the perfect comic to introduce your children to as they learn Hindi, especially given the current climate of empowering girls.

What are the top books for children to learn Hindi?

I’ve done the work for you and picked the best books in terms of units sold by the world’s biggest book retailer, Amazon. When you grab one of these books, you know thousands of other parents have also made the same great choice.

1. Hindi Children’s Book: Where is the Baby. Baalak Kahan Hai

This is the most popular children’s Hindi book on Amazon. Your children will love joining in the activities as they try to find the baby’s hidden body parts on each page, such as ears, eyes, nose, etc. They’re also encouraged to point to their own body parts.

You can expect clear fonts and beautiful illustrations that allow your children to learn parts of their bodies in Hindi. It will also help them create simple sentences.

2. The Fabulous Lost & Found and the little mouse who spoke Hindi

The next most popular book is the funny tale of a little mouse who walks into Lost & Found but can only speak Hindi. Mr and Mrs Frog need to figure out what the mouse needs.

Many parents love this book; some say their children were so busy laughing they had no idea they were learning.

Storytelling is one of the best ways for children (and adults) to learn a language. Add lots of humour, and it’s easy to see why this book has so many fans.

3. My Big Book Of Hindi Words

This is a great book that introduces Hindi words for different animals.

Choosing to focus on animals can be a smart move when introducing young ones to Hindi. Children have an innate love for animals, so you’re more likely to keep their interest and engagement.

They’ll learn not only how to say the name of each animal but also how to write it in Hindi. They’ll learn the names of farm animals, zoo animals, reptiles, birds, sea animals, insects, and much more.

4. My First Hindi Book. Hindi-English Book for Bilingual Children

This is a great first book for children. They will learn over 200 words on different topics.

Expect vivid, colourful illustrations to keep your children engaged while they learn how to pronounce numbers, translate words, read the Hindi alphabet , and more.

5. Look at Me I’m Learning Hindi

This is another book that uses the power of storytelling to engage the reader while teaching Hindi.

Follow the adventures of Mo and other children as they learn how to count to 10, talk about their pets, games they like to play, their likes and dislikes, etc.

Please note. The author has chosen to teach a hybrid of Hindi and Urdu words. This is likely because the younger Indian generations tend to speak a mixture of Hindi, Urdu and English. However, if you want your children to learn pure Hindi, this will not be the best book to buy.

How do I keep my kids focused on learning Hindi?

Children have shorter attention spans than adults, so if you want them to learn something, you need to make it engaging.

I recommend a variety of learning materials, from books and magazines to apps and YouTube channels .

With a little planning, you’ll have kids begging to learn more Hindi because it’s fun.

When it comes to the scope of creative writing, this profession is the least followed occupation as far as creative writing as a job is concerned. A columnist is a person who writes opinionated articles for magazines, newspapers, or news websites.
