Common app personal essay.

The essay demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely on a selected topic and helps you distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Choose the option that best helps you answer that question and write an essay of no more than 650 words, using the prompt to inspire and structure your response. Remember: 650 words is your limit, not your goal. Use the full range if you need it, but don‘t feel obligated to do so.

Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?

Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you‘ve already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

College Essay Writing Tips for UA Applicants

Freshman and transfer applicants to UA will be required to write short responses to questions in the application . These tips will help you prepare your best pieces of writing.

The Big Picture

A great application essay will present a vivid, personal, and compelling view of you to the admission staff. It will help you stand out from other applicants whose grades, activities, and awards are comparable to yours. The application essay can influence not only admission decisions but also scholarship awards, so the time you invest in it could literally pay off.

The first step is to decide what to write about. No matter what the essay prompt, remember that your first priority is to give your reader insight into the character traits, personal values, or future goals that will bring you to the college campus. You can begin to plan for your college essays before you start to fill out your application forms. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Make a single point that illustrates who you are.

Your application will list your classes, grades, activities and awards. The essay should round out this information in a more personal way by showing how an experience has shaped you and why it matters. In your response, you should concentrate on one main idea and maintain that focus from beginning to end. Depth rather than breadth is your goal here.

Too general: “During my junior year, I was voted MVP of my basketball team, served on the student council, maintained a 3.4 GPA, traveled to Mexico…” etc. Your application already reflects these basic facts.

Instead: “Traveling to Chihuahua, Mexico taught me to appreciate my U.S. high school experiences in a new way.”

The proof is in the details.

Once you have a main idea in mind, prepare to elaborate with details that prove your point. You’ll want to lead the reader to agree with your main point by using vivid and specific facts, quotations, examples, and/or sensory details to illustrate it.

Too general: “I like to be surrounded by people with a variety of backgrounds and interests.”

Instead: “As a volunteer at our community center, I sang the theme song from Casablanca with a former baseball coach who thinks he’s Humphrey Bogart, discussed the war in Iraq with a middle-aged woman whose son is a soldier, and learned more than I ever wanted to know about another woman’s cactus garden.”

The Nitty Gritty

When you have a draft of your essay that you feel is sufficiently focused and detailed, you’ll want to reread it and edit it with these principles in mind:

Variety is the spice for your essay.

Variety in your sentences plays an important part in keeping your reader interested in your writing. Try reading your essay aloud to notice if your sentences sound repetitive.

Repetitive: “I am the first person in my family born in this country. I am also the first person who will go to college. I want to be a role model for my younger brothers and my cousins.”

Instead: “As the first in my family to be born in this country and pursue higher education, I want to be a role model for my younger brothers and cousins.”

Pump up your word choice.

It may be tempting to use a thesaurus to make your essay sound more sophisticated. If you do, you run the risk of misusing unfamiliar words and you also might interfere with the personal voice that makes your essay interesting to read. When you find wording you’d like to improve, first search your mental thesaurus to spice up your essay with synonyms that are part of your own vocabulary.

Before thesaurus: “Although I did a lot of activities in high school, my hard work got me through it.”

With thesaurus: “Although I participated in a plethora of activities in high school, my assiduous efforts enabled me to succeed.”

With your own vocabulary: “Although I juggled many activities in high school, my persistence helped me to succeed.”

Be concise.

You have a limited amount of space to indicate who you are. Eliminating unnecessary words frees up space to take your reader deeper into your experience.

Too wordy: “Over the years it was pointed out to me by parents, friends, and teachers- and I have even noticed this about myself, as well- that I was not the neatest person in the world.” (37 words)

Instead: “I was sloppy and everyone knew it.” (7 words)

Your readers are not English teachers, but they are college-educated people who value learning and want to see that same value in the students they admit to college. Errors in spelling and grammar may indicate carelessness or lack of attention to details. Use your computer’s spell check, but also read your own work carefully to catch typos like these:

“After I graduate form high school, I plan to work for a non-profit organization.”

“From that day on, Daniel was my best fried .”

When completing your application, click “yes” when prompted about your interest in the W.A. Franke Honors College.

STEP 2: ACCESS YOUR HONORS APPLICATION

  • Log into your Future Wildcat account.
  • Select your application with the “submitted” status.
  • Select “open application” in the pop-up.
  • On the status page that opens, select “supplemental applications” to start the Franke Honors College application.

FUTURE WILDCAT

Did you apply to the University of Arizona through the Common or Coalition app? 

You will need to create a Future Wildcat account before completing the steps outlined above. Please note that it can take up to 48 hours to link your Common or Coalition application to your new Future Wildcat account.

STEP 3: COMPLETE THE HONORS APPLICATION

Here’s what you will need to submit:.

  •   An activities résumé. Here you can let us know what you've been doing outside of the classroom. It could include extracurriculars, jobs, leadership, volunteering, or anything else you'd like us to know.
  • A letter of recommendation. You will provide contact information for your letter writer and we will send them a personalized link to upload their letter of recommendation.
  • A personal statement based on the prompt below. We recommend this personal statement be different from the optional personal statement in the University of Arizona’s application for admission.

Franke Honors College Personal Statement Prompt  (Please Limit to 500 Words)

Please tell the admissions committee a little about yourself. You might consider including some of the following: your background, academic interests, where those interests come from, what makes you unique, career or professional goals, obstacles you've overcome, why it's important for you to be part of the Franke Honors College, a talent you have, an extracurricular activity that's been particularly impactful, or anything else you would like for the committee to know.

If you chose to submit an optional personal statement for your University of Arizona application, you may use all or part of it again here, but please make sure the personal statement you submit for Honors addresses the above prompt and why you are interested in the Franke Honors College . Please limit your response to 500 words.

The W.A. Franke Honors College application process is test-free. You will not be penalized for including your ACT and/or SAT scores, but neither will be required or considered.

HOW OUR REVIEW PROCESS WORKS

We consider students holistically for admission to honors and that decision is based on several criteria. Factors include your core unweighted high school GPA, the rigor of your high school schedule (to include honors/AP/IB classes taken in high school), your personal statement, recommendation, and extracurricular and leadership experiences.

Please note that we only look at core unweighted GPAs – if your school has weighted grades, we will unweight them to calculate your GPA for honors and university admission, and focus on your core 16 classes.

Writing Personal Statements

Most college and scholarship applications require students to write a personal statement.  This one- to two-page document is an opportunity for you to shine in ways that weren’t possible in other parts of the application.  So then, how do you make your personal statement shine?  Here are a few suggestions that should help:

Say What Your Application Does Not 

Reread your application/resume and ask yourself these questions:   Are my best attributes clearly shown – or do I need to say more?   Is it obvious that I am ready for academic rigor?  Is it clear that I persevere in the face of challenges?  Is it clear that I have strong time management and people skills?   If not, consider what life experiences could be shared to reflect these attributes.

Imagine a Reviewer has to decide between two equal applications

What might you share in your personal statement that would give you the edge?  What makes you unique?

Explain the Red Flags

(e.g. weak grades during a particular semester, or a lack of community service experience)?   How might you explain this in a way that highlights some of your strengths?  How might you tell a story which shows your ability to persevere despite challenging circumstances?

Reflect on Your Major Life Experiences

Draw a timeline of your life and make note of the most meaningful experiences.  Circle the top five.  Which ones reflect how your strongest attributes either developed or were used in an important way.  

Write a Draft Using Specific, Descriptive Language

Either tell a story that shows how you were transformed by specific experiences – or use a variety of specific examples that demonstrate the person you are.

Revision Is Everything

Instead, focus on what they don’t already know – especially the stories and images which best demonstrate your character.  As you reread your work, make sure to: 1) omit all vague words; 2) read your work aloud, adding in punctuation and transitions when needed, and combining or dividing sentences when they sound awkward; 3) ask other adults to read your draft and make suggestions; and, 4) ask your teacher to read your final draft.  Avoid saying anything obvious (e.g. “My name is John Doe and I’m writing this letter with hopes of being accepted at The University of Arizona”).

APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS

What happens after i’ve applied.

Your application will be evaluated by the Office of Admissions, who will conduct a thorough admissions review based on many factors including, but not limited to, course completion, grades, extracurricular activities, and more.

It typically takes two to three weeks to review your application. Request undergraduate information, get updates on your application status, and see your admission decision via Future Wildcat .

Assured Admission for Residents & Non-Residents

You are assured admission to the University of Arizona if you attended a regionally accredited high school and:

  • Rank in the top 25% of your graduating class, OR
  • Have a 3.0 unweighted GPA through your sixth semester in the core competency requirements

*Applicants who have graduated from high school 1 year or more before enrolling at the University of Arizona and did not attend any higher education institutions after high school will be evaluated for admission based on their 8th semester unweighted core GPA.

Comprehensive Review

The University of Arizona admissions team welcomes students – even those who don’t meet assured admission requirements – who will bring unique life experiences and personal achievements to our campus community. Your application is evaluated based on the following:

Academic Factors

Our application review is designed to get to know every student. Every application is reviewed by up to two different reviewers before a final decision is made. There are a few things the admissions team takes into consideration for admission, such as:

  • Strength of curriculum
  • Performance in curriculum
  • Grade point average in required core coursework
  • Optional materials (SAT/ACT scores, resumé, and personal statement)

During the review process, students may be asked to provide additional information, such as test scores or seventh semester transcripts.

The personal statement is 100% optional and gives you the opportunity to share your unique life experiences and personal achievements that may not otherwise show up in your application. Through this process, we get to know you better and can make more informed admissions decisions.

Franke Honors College Application Process

Enhance your education as a member of the W.A. Franke Honors College. In fall 2020, students were typically admitted to the Franke Honors College if they had a 3.91 unweighted core high school GPA, and had a 1391 SAT score (math and critical reading) or 31 ACT composite score.

Arizona State University (ASU) is a large research university found across Arizona, with its flagship campus at Tempe enrolling around 43,000 undergraduates. ASU offers its students over 500 clubs, 250 study abroad options, and 300 undergraduate academic programs to choose from. 

ASU does not require any essays for its general application, but it does require a supplemental essay to be considered for its Barrett Honors College. Arizona State University Supplemental Essay Prompts

Students must reply to ONE of the following prompts. Your response may be critical or creative. (300-500)

Prompt 2: Discuss how a piece of art (painting, literature, photograph, etc.) or popular culture (song, comic book, etc.) helped you realize something new about yourself or the world. What was that realization, and how did the piece of art or pop culture bring about this change in your thinking? Do not simply describe the piece of art or pop culture; instead, focus on its effect on you. (300-500 words)

Thus, the honors college recommends thinking through the essay prompts deeply, offering specific examples in your claims, showing intellectual curiosity, and revealing strong reasons as to why you want to be a part of the Barrett community. With that said, let’s go on to the essay prompts!

Honors College, Prompt 1

All human knowledge is erased. only one object or one sentence can be shared with the next generation. what one thing should be passed on -or- what single statement would contain the most valuable information in the fewest words defend your selection. if you choose to address this prompt with an object, do not select a thumb drive, computer, etc. for its memory storage capacity. (300-500 words).

This prompt asks you to hold up the weight of human history into your hands. However, it is just as much a prompt seeking to know more about you, your passions, and your intellectual curiosity. As a result, don’t worry about providing the “right” answer. Since there really is no one right answer, instead focus on developing a convicting, well defended answer that you can stand behind. You want to deviate from any cliches, and write authentically with your own voice and rationale. 

First, you want to spend ample time brainstorming. Make up a list of possible objects and sentences that you think are suitable. If you’re thinking about objects, maybe you would want to leave behind seeds, which reveal the possibility of life and regeneration; or the Rosetta Stone, which proves the human capacity for language and communication; or a spaceship, which demonstrates technological advancement. 

Some other choices could be a food item, a piece of clothing, a technological device, or a photo. You want to settle on a viable choice that can be vigorously defended for 500 words—which means that it should have personal significance in your own life. 

If it’s a sentence you’re thinking about, maybe you want to choose a quote, like Mother Theresa’s “spread love everywhere you go,” or Martin Luther King Jr.’s “the arc of the moral universe is long, but bends toward justice,” or Thomas Edison’s “I failed my way to success.” Or it could be something your mom or teacher told you, or just a simple saying that you personally live by. There are countless ways in which you can explore answering this prompt. 

Just try to avoid super overdone quotes, like “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” While defending your quote or object is more important than the quote or object itself, you still want your choice to be original, and to be connected to a personal story.

If you choose to leave behind the Martin Luther King quote, you want to defend the progress of human civilization, and how despite an immense number of setbacks, we have strived to create a better world for humankind. 

If you choose to leave behind the Rosetta Stone, maybe you could argue that language is the greatest achievement of civilizations, and how we’ve been able to communicate with others not only in our own tongues, but through translation and learning different languages. 

You should also try to bring in a personal reason as to why you’ve chosen your sentence or object. 

Again, referring back to the Martin Luther King quote, you could talk about your own efforts in the social justice sector, whether through volunteering or leading a club. 

Regarding the Rosetta Stone, you could talk about your own bilingualism, and how you’ve had to struggle to learn English, but found it rewarding once you did. 

Lastly, you should consider bringing ASU into the essay. Talk about how you want to keep pursuing the idea you brought forth in the essay, while an undergraduate in the honors college, by participating in rigorous honors seminars and discussing your beliefs and ideas freely in honors residential communities. 

Discuss how a piece of art (painting, literature, photograph, etc.) or popular culture (song, comic book, etc.) helped you realize something new about yourself or the world. What was that realization, and how did the piece of art or pop culture bring about this change in your thinking? Do not simply describe the piece of art or pop culture; instead, focus on its effect on you. (300-500 words)

Similar to the last prompt, this prompt isn’t asking you to provide a “right” answer, rather its asking you to talk about yourself: 

  • What was your reaction to the piece?
  • What reflections were you able to make through the piece?
  • How did you grow from experiencing the piece? 

First, you want to think about the works of art and culture that you’ve spent a lot of time with while growing up, or a piece that’s marked a sudden shift in your life. 

Although you do want to concern yourself with providing a suitable work of art to examine (perhaps nothing too extreme, cliche, unseemly, or disdainful to an admissions committee), it’s more important that you choose something meaningful to you. 

Don’t worry too much about being “tasteful” or “high culture.” If it’s a painting, maybe you picked Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory . Or, perhaps you chose Brave New World as your book, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima as your photograph, Calvin and Hobbes as your comic book , Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” as your song, or Coraline as your movie. 

The choice is truly up to you, pick whatever work of art or culture speaks to you! Just be sure you are able to use the piece you choose to provide insight into your identity. 

Now that you’ve chosen your topic, you want to spend some time brainstorming how the work has changed you and provided a new perspective. 

Maybe Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” introduced you to race relations in America and spoke to you about the different forms of racism Black people face everyday. 

If you chose Brave New World , maybe you could talk about how you fear American society is becoming like the caste-based, drug-laden society present in the book. 

Maybe Calvin and Hobbes taught you how important having an active imagination is, even after childhood is long gone. 

You can certainly explore both individual and global perspectives in your reflections, however, a strong response must flow smoothly between both ideas. 

Lastly, you want to discuss how the piece you chose has caused you to change as a person. How has this work of art or culture influenced your future desires? 

Maybe The Persistence of Memory is the painting that led you to become a painter yourself. 

Or, perhaps Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima influenced you to choose a path in national defense. 

Or, possibly, it’s less career oriented, and more interior for you. Maybe you want to further expand your artistic imagination, develop your racial consciousness, or fight for better moral values in the future. 

Whatever it is, focus on how the piece changed you (at least 75% of the essay), and spend no more than 25% on describing the piece.

Accelerated Pathway to Medical Education (APME)

The Accelerated Pathway to Medical Education (APME) program offers a unique educational experience for talented students anticipating a career in medicine or medical science. APME is a combination undergraduate-graduate program that will take a student seven years to complete and will result in an MD degree upon graduation. Students apply to APME once they have entered their senior year of high school, have been accepted at the University of Arizona and meet the eligibility criteria. Declaring a science major is recommended to satisfy the undergraduate requirements for the MD program. Out of hundreds of applications, five students are accepted each year to the program.

Students will be required to complete required premedical courses during their undergraduate coursework. Students aren’t required to receive a bachelor’s degree but they will complete the undergraduate coursework that will prepare them for the MD curriculum before matriculating into the College of Medicine – Tucson after their third year in undergrad.

Being conditionally admitted to the program allows students to earn a reserved spot at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson MD program provided they meet specific academic, non-academic and professional requirements annually. The MCAT exam is not required for students in the APME program upon application or admission.

Student development.

During their three years of undergraduate studies, APME students will participate in programming and workshops that focus on four crucial components for incoming medical students: community service, research, clinical work and leadership. They will complete a required number of hours in each category as well as workshops based on clinical experience, professional development and much more.

Medical School Resources and Networking

APME students will enjoy the resources offered at the College of Medicine – Tucson to help acclimate them to the College of Medicine – Tucson environment. They will meet current medical students, faculty and Banner personnel, have access to our simulation lab, and be able to join medical student clubs and affinity groups. Based on interest, APME students can be connected with a range of faculty or staff in a given specialty area to explore the field and potentially gain research opportunities.

The College of Medicine – Tucson thrives on peer and faculty mentorship. Students help the classes below them as well as with their own class as they navigate medical school. Each cohort of APME works with the one below, and each APME student is given a medical student mentor and a College of Medicine – Tucson faculty member mentor.

Admissions Criteria

Students must be a high school senior (or equivalent) admitted to the University of Arizona. Students cannot take a gap year before applying to APME, and transfer students are not accepted.

We recommend students apply early to receive a decision earlier in the admissions process. The undergraduate application opened July 1, 2023, for students starting Fall 2024. Application processing time varies depending on the time of year and volume of applications. After September 15, decisions are released on a rolling basis two to four weeks from submission. The University of Arizona does not offer early admissions or early decisions.

Students must be a citizen of the United States or a U.S. permanent resident with a Form I-551, I-151 or I-551C. We accept both in-state and out-of-state students with no preference given to either group of applicants.

Students must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.7. SAT/ACT scores are not required for admission to the APME Program. If included in the application, an official College Board score will be required.

Application and Admissions Process

Before you apply.

Applicants must first apply to the University of Arizona and have an official admission decision. Applicants can select any undergraduate major on campus. APME students will commit to seven years in Tucson at the University of Arizona. APME does not offer gap years or transfers into the program.

Application Details

The application for the 2024-2025 cohort of APME will open in Fall 2023. Students will only see the application once all criteria are met and our system updates their application status, which may take at least 48-72 hours.

Once admitted, applicants will see APME under their Supplemental Applications tab, among the SALT Center, W.A. Franke Honors College and the Fine Arts applications. Applicants can view this both in their Common App and in the Future Wildcat Portal. Applicants will see all instructions once the application is available to them.

Once an application is submitted or the deadline has passed, we will not accept any changes or updates to applications, nor will we be able to provide any updates on application status.

Each application includes:

  • Personal statement (5,300 characters)
  • Video introduction (optional)
  • 4 essay questions
  • 3-5 letters of recommendation 
  • Unofficial high school transcript

Admissions Process

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson reviews applicants with a holistic approach when selecting incoming students. A single component of an application will not push a student ahead or hold them back. All materials will be reviewed to promote a fair and equitable consideration of an application, including the experiences, attributes and metrics. One portion of an application does not carry weight over another portion. Our admissions office looks at applicants beyond metrics to ensure that each student is a good fit for our mission and values and has a passion for medicine.

Applying to apme.

What is conditional admission? Earning admission into the APME program means that applicants earn early conditional admission into the College of Medicine – Tucson. This admission is based on successfully completing APME requirements during the three years in the undergraduate program to secure the conditional admission along with other program requirements.

Who should letters of recommendation come from and how many should be submitted? A minimum of three letters should be submitted from someone you have interacted with in an employment, volunteer or clinical setting. We recommend letters from teachers, professors or mentors who can best speak to your academic qualities and why you would be a good fit for the program. Applicants are allowed a maximum of five letters.

The supplemental questions state a minimum of 350 words but I’m able to submit more. Will my answer be cut off? Your entire answer will be included in the application; however, the goal is to provide your answer in 350 words or less.

When will interviews take place? Interviews will take place on March 8, 2024, and will be held via Zoom with about 30 applicants. We will not hold makeup interviews.

When will applicants be notified of their acceptance into the program? Applicants will be notified on March 29, 2024, and will need to commit to the APME program by April 12, 2024.

What happens if I am not admitted to APME? If you are not admitted to APME, you can work to potentially gain admission to the Honors Early Assurance Program (HEAP) , which allows for academically talented students to gain early admission to the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson.

Do I still have to wait three years to start the MD program if I come in with a year or more of AP credit or dual enrollment/transfer credit? Yes, you will still take three years of undergraduate courses. If you have your College of Medicine – Tucson prerequisites done, you can explore other areas you may be curious about.

If I am awarded a scholarship or have things to add to my application after I have submitted it, how can I add them? Once your application is submitted, you will not be able to add, remove or change any content. Timing of application submission does not have any impact on chances of being admitted, so we recommend students take their time when completing their application.

Undergraduate Studies

Will students receive a bachelor’s degree in three years? Earning a bachelor’s degree is not required in APME, but a student can choose to do so. They will complete undergraduate prerequisite coursework that will prepare them for the MD curriculum. After successfully completing the APME program, students will receive their MD degree in an additional four years.

APME students can choose to work toward their bachelor’s degree, but must earn their degree in the three years of their undergraduate studies, which could result in a heavier course load and potentially taking courses outside of the traditional fall/spring semesters.

Do I have to declare a College of Medicine – Tucson major? No, you do not have to be in a College of Medicine – Tucson undergraduate major to participate in APME. However, there are courses that the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson requires for admission . Science-based majors are typically recommended to ensure all required courses are covered.

Are there additional fees or tuition for APME? No, there are no outside fees or additional tuition in the APME program. While a student is in the first three years of their undergraduate studies, they will be charged tuition like any other student and nothing will look different for them. The same goes for when APME students begin medical school. There will be no additional fees, only the required tuition for all medical school students. APME students will be eligible to apply for scholarships, loans and grants while they are in the undergraduate classes as well as the medical school.

If you’re applying to the Honors College at the University of Arizona, you’ll need to choose 1 of 3 supplemental essay prompts. This guide will help you choose a University of Arizona Honors College essay prompt that will show off your unique traits and interests in 500 words or less.

Essay Instructions: Select one prompt to address. The essay must be no longer than 500 words.

Option 1: Choose and research a controversial issue that interests you. Pick which side of the issue you support and write a response to persuade the reader to agree with your stance. Please include and cite specific details and examples to support your argument, and remember to address opposing viewpoints.

Can you think of an issue that you have debated about with other people? Do you try to convince your friends or family to agree with you on a certain issue? If so, this could be a great prompt for you.

  • Try to pick something you’re passionate about. Do you truly care about this issue?
  • When someone disagrees with you on this issue, can you point to facts from reliable sources to back up your arguments?
  • Does this issue connect to one of your values, interests, or goals?

If you said yes, then you’re on the right track!

Option 2: Discuss an event, accomplishment, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

This prompt gives you a lot of freedom. Don’t worry about choosing the “right” topic – focus on choosing an experience that was an important part of your life.

As you’re brainstorming topics, these questions may help you identify an experience that led to personal growth:

  • Personal growth means that you changed in a good way. Did this experience change you? Do you like the way you changed?
  • Did this experience help you become the person you are today? In other words, if you deleted this experience out of your past, would that change who you are in the present day?

Note: You may recognize this prompt from the Common Application. If you already answered this prompt in the Common App, resist the temptation to use the same essay for Arizona Honors College! Choose one of the other prompts, and show your reader a different side of yourself.

Option 3: What historical event/moment do you wish you could have witnessed? Please explain why you chose this moment or event.

If you’re obsessed with a historical period, figure, or event, this might be a great topic. However, remember that college admissions readers aren’t looking for a history lesson - they want to learn about you! Make sure you can connect your historical event to one of your interests, values, or goals.
