Customers who have been provisioned with 5G services will receive an SMS notification.

5. If customers have received an SMS notification on successful provisioning, will they be getting 5G services automatically?

Yes, customers should be getting 5G services automatically as long as they are within the 5G coverage area. If there is no 5G icon, customers may follow the steps below:

Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select 5G/LTE/3G/2G (Auto-Connect)

6. Will customers be notified if they are within a 5G coverage area?

No. However, a 5G icon in the status bar located at the top right corner of their phone will be visible.

Introduction.

This Campaign is held by Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd (Company No. 27910-A) (“Celcom”). By participating in this Campaign, Customers (as defined below) hereby agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions which shall form an integral part of and to be read together with the general Terms and Conditions relevant to the Customers in respect of this Campaign as published at https://www.celcom.com.my/legal/terms-and-conditions and https://www.celcom.com.my/legal/terms-and-conditions/personal respectively.

In the event of a conflict or inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and CRF and/or Terms and Conditions of the respective mobile/content service(s), such inconsistency shall be resolved by giving precedence in the following decreasing order (i) these Terms and Conditions (ii) Terms and Conditions of CRF and/or the respective mobile/content service(s).

Customers hereby agree and acknowledge that Celcom reserves the rights to process Customer’s personal data (as defined in the Personal Data Protection Act 2010) in accordance with Celcom’s Privacy Notice made available on Celcom’s website and as amended from time to time.

Eligibility

This Campaign shall be applicable to all new and existing active eligible Celcom’s postpaid plan (“Plan”) subscribers (hereinafter referred to as “Customer(s)”). For clarity, active line means Customers will be able to make and return calls.

This Campaign shall be applicable to the Customers of Celcom’s postpaid plans as follows:

New or existing eligible Postpaid Customers who are using 5G compatible devices with USIM within 5G coverage areas will be able to enjoy the following offerings (“Offerings”) during the Campaign Period:

Free Promotional 5G Access

MEGA™ Lightning 188 plan & Mega for Business + XL Pass plan quota will be refreshed:

New eligible Postpaid Customers – Promotional quota will be reflected immediately

Existing eligible Postpaid Customers – Promotional quota will be reflected in next bill cycle

Customers will receive an SMS notification once their Plan is activated with 5G services.

5G services will utilise High-speed Base Internet and Add-On Internet allocated under the plan.

5G services are not applicable for Unlimited Internet allocated under the plan.

For Change of Bill Plan (COBP), Internet utilisation will follow the manner stated in Clauses 4 and 5.

This Campaign is not applicable to MEGA™ Unlimited plans. Offerings under Clause 2 will be dropped if customer switched from eligible plans to MEGA™ Unlimited plans during Campaign Period.

Customers can disable 5G services via mobile network settings of their smartphone and these steps may vary depending on the model of smartphone.

In the event where Customers have already activated 5G services, Customers may enjoy 5G Roaming automatically in the areas supported by 5G roaming network operator.

Customers may need to subscribe to Celcom Roaming pass to enjoy 5G services. All roaming passes are supported by 5G.

General Terms And Conditions

• Celcom reserves the sole and absolute right to withdraw, amend, omit and/or vary any part or the whole of the Terms and Conditions of this Campaign without prior notice to Customers herein stated and Customers shall be bound to observe, perform and comply with the Terms and Conditions herein and any amendments thereof.  
• Celcom’s decisions in any matter in relation to the Campaign shall be final and conclusive. Any request for appeal and review shall not be entertained.  
• Celcom shall not be liable for any claim by Customers or third-party claims or loses of any nature, including but not limited to, loss of profits, punitive, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages or for other damages and any related claims of any nature, including direct, indirect, third party, consequential or other damages resulting from or in connection with this Campaign.  
• Celcom disclaims any liability for loss or damage to property, any personal injury or loss of life resulting from or in connection with this Campaign.   
• Customers acknowledge and agree that Celcom reserves the rights to disqualify any participation if Customers are in breach of its obligations or any Terms and Conditions of this Campaign. Notwithstanding the above, Celcom reserves the right to reject any participation or Customers at its sole and absolute discretion without assigning any reason whatsoever.  
• Celcom does not take any responsibility in the event Customers are prevented from participating in the Campaign, as a result of certain technical restrictions or other limitations specific or force majeure which include but are not limited to regulatory and/or government directive, act of God etc.  
• All photographs, personal information and names submitted, service marks, trade names and trademarks are the property of Celcom.  
• Except as expressly mentioned herein, Celcom shall not be responsible for any expenses and cost including out-of-pocket expenses related to or as a consequence of participating in this Campaign.  
• In the event any of the provision in these Terms and Conditions are invalid, illegal and unenforceable under any applicable law or by any reasons whatsoever, the legality and enforceability of the remaining provisions shall not be affected.  
• No delay or indulgence by Celcom in enforcing any Terms or Conditions herein shall constitute waiver by Celcom of Customer’s breach of these Terms and Conditions.

Apple’s New iPad Ad Leaves Its Creative Audience Feeling … Flat

An ad meant to show how the updated device can do many things has become a metaphor for a community’s fears of the technology industry.

The trumpet is the first thing to be squished. Then the industrial compressor flattens a row of paint cans, buckles a piano and levels what appears to be a marble bust. In a final act of destruction, it pops the eyes out of a ball-shaped yellow emoji.

When the compressor rises, it reveals Apple’s latest commodity: the updated iPad Pro.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, posted the advertisement, called “Crush,” on Tuesday after the company held an event to announce new tablets. “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created,” Mr. Cook wrote, adding, “Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.”

For decades, Apple has been the toast of the creative class. It has won over designers, musicians and film editors with promises that its products would help them “Think Different.”

But some creators took a different message from the one-minute iPad ad. Rather than seeing a device that could help them create, as Mr. Cook suggested, they saw a metaphor for how Big Tech has cashed in on their work by crushing or co-opting the artistic tools that humanity has used for centuries.

The image was especially unnerving at a time when artists fear that generative artificial intelligence, which can write poetry and create movies, might take away their jobs.

“It’s unusual in its cruelty,” said Justin Ouellette, a software designer in Portland, Ore., who does animation work and is a longtime Apple product user. “A lot of people see this as a betrayal of its commitment to human creative expression and a tone deafness to the pressures those artists feel at this time.”

Apple didn’t respond to requests for comment.

It was the latest in a series of recent promotional slip-ups by a company that is widely considered to be a marketing juggernaut. Its marketing of the Apple Vision Pro , released in January, struggled to help that device break through with many customers. Last year, Apple was criticized for making an awkward sketch that cast Octavia Spencer as Mother Earth , lording over a corporate meeting about the company’s effort to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Apple has been regarded as an advertising visionary since the 1980s. Its “ 1984” Super Bowl commercial to introduce the Macintosh computer is among the most famous commercials ever made. The ad, which was developed by the Chiat/Day agency, showed an actor throwing a sledgehammer through a screen projecting the face of a “Big Brother” figure that was meant to be a metaphor for IBM.

When Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 after 12 years away, he sought to reclaim its marketing magic. Together he and Lee Clow, the advertising creative behind the “1984” spot, developed the “Think Different” campaign. It paved the way to the famous “Get a Mac” spots, featuring a Mac and PC , and the original iPhone ad , which showed people in classic films and television shows picking up a phone and saying, “Hello.”

Apple’s marketing pitched its products as easy to use. It billed PCs and Android phones as devices for business executives working on spreadsheets, while Macs and iPhones were tools for film editors, photographers and writers.

But Apple’s advertising has been uneven over the last dozen years or so. It yanked a 2012 campaign that showcased its Apple Store “geniuses” on planes. Critics dismissed a subsequent spot, “Designed by Apple in California,” as “ lame .”

In the wake of those hiccups, Mr. Cook shifted oversight of advertising from Phil Schiller, the company’s longtime head of marketing, to Tor Myhren, a former president and chief creative officer at Grey, the ad agency that created the E-Trade baby.

Under Mr. Myhren, who joined in 2016, Apple has developed some of its ads with its own creative team and others in collaboration with an outside agency, Media Arts Lab. It has been recognized at the Cannes Lions Awards, the leading event for the ad industry, for a spot on AirPods called “Bounce,” which showed a man bounding off the sidewalk as he listened to music. Last year, Apple was named Creative Brand of the Year because of its “R.I.P. Leon” ad, in which a man sent an iPhone message saying a lizard in his care had died, then deleted it when the lizard suddenly rolled over off its back.

Mr. Myhren and Media Arts Lab didn’t respond to requests for comment about who was behind the “Crush” spot.

Michael J. Miraflor, the chief brand officer at Hannah Grey, a venture capital firm, said on X that Apple’s ad had effectively offended and turned off its core customer base, achieving the opposite of what it had done with its “1984” commercial.

“It’s not even that it’s boring or banal,” Mr. Miraflor wrote . “It makes me feel … bad? Bummed out?”

Local News | Animation showing planned Key Bridge explosive demolition unveiled

Francis Scott Key Bridge cleanup officials shared a video animation Wednesday depicting how crews plan to deploy small explosive devices to clear a large steel truss resting on the bow of the Dali container ship in the Patapsco River.

Crews will cut holes into various sections of the truss and place thin pieces of metal inside those holes — with small explosive charges attached — according to the one-minute animation. Each charge will be protected by a wrapping, “similar to a large piece of tape,” the video says.

All of the small explosives will detonate simultaneously, creating cuts that are “merely millimeters in width.” Observers might see small flashes and puffs of smoke, according to the animation.

The cuts will rend apart the truss section and send the pieces plunging into the river, unpinning the Dali.

“It’s important to note that this controlled demolition is not like what you would see in a movie,” says a voiceover on the animation released Wednesday. “From a distance, it will sound like fireworks or loud thunder and appear as puffs of smoke.”

Key Bridge cleanup officials are recommending that any individuals within 2,000 yards of the blast site use hearing protection. Most of that area is within the Patapsco River.

“There is a small portion of the noise radius that includes land over the industrial portions of Hawkins Point,” Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Carr, Key Bridge Response Unified Command safety officer, said in a news release Wednesday. “We are ensuring workers in the area have advanced notice of the plan.”

For individuals outside that radius, the sound will “be no louder than a standard fireworks show” and will last two to five seconds, according to the news release from the Key Bridge Unified Command center. Officials have been using the term “precision cutting” to describe the operation.

“Precision cutting offers one of the most efficient and safest methods to be able to remove steel under such a high level of tension,” the release reads. “This highly controlled process enables surgical precision.”

Crews are aiming to complete the detonation in the coming days, possibly as soon as this weekend, according to the Unified Command. Officials plan to send out a notice 48 hours before the detonation. Weather conditions and other variables could change the timeline.

Controlled Demolition Inc., a company based in Baltimore County’s Phoenix, will be handling the operation, as a subcontractor of Resolve Marine, the cleanup company assigned to the Dali. Controlled Demolition Inc.’s president declined to comment, deferring questions to the Unified Command.

The company has extensive experience with explosives in demolition, including local projects such as the demolition of the C.P. Crane power plant , and larger operations like the cleanup following 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing.

James Milburn, president of the National Demolition Association, which represents demolition and wrecking companies, said using explosives is a highly specialized field within the industry.

“There’s a limited number of professionals that have the experience and licensing for explosive demolition,” said Milburn, who is also the managing principal for Milburn Demolition, with offices in Chicago and Tampa, Florida. “So a lot of us — in terms of demolition contractors — we subcontract out that scope to these individuals.”

Different considerations likely went into the decision to use explosives to free the Dali, rather than making individual cuts with saws, which has been done for many of the pieces of steel sitting in the Patapsco River, Milburn said. Chief among them is likely the safety of the workers involved, who would probably have to saw at the steel while suspended from cranes, officials have said.

“If it were safer to do this removal with mechanical methods, then it would certainly be done that way,” Milburn said. “But safety and cost in mind — and speed — there’s a reason that they’d be using those [charges].”

Contractors typically look to use the least amount of explosives as possible but still achieve the desired effect: in this case, allowing the truss to fall into the water so the Dali can be refloated. This case also comes with other complexities, like ensuring the Dali remains stable during and after the detonation.

“I would say they probably have an explosive demolition plan that would note the location and the size of the charges and the protections required around the charges to limit debris or steel from shooting out too far from the site … and if there’s any added protection or stabilization required for the boat,” Milburn said.

The wrappings on top of each charge help prevent too much debris from being emitted as clouds of smoke and encase and focus the explosion, he said.

“What they want to do is guide the explosive to the piece of metal or structure they want to be severed,” Milburn said. “It’ll almost look like — if I had to guess — it’ll look like localized fireworks.”
