What It Takes to Give a Great Presentation

  • Carmine Gallo

Five tips to set yourself apart.

Never underestimate the power of great communication. It can help you land the job of your dreams, attract investors to back your idea, or elevate your stature within your organization. But while there are plenty of good speakers in the world, you can set yourself apart out by being the person who can deliver something great over and over. Here are a few tips for business professionals who want to move from being good speakers to great ones: be concise (the fewer words, the better); never use bullet points (photos and images paired together are more memorable); don’t underestimate the power of your voice (raise and lower it for emphasis); give your audience something extra (unexpected moments will grab their attention); rehearse (the best speakers are the best because they practice — a lot).

I was sitting across the table from a Silicon Valley CEO who had pioneered a technology that touches many of our lives — the flash memory that stores data on smartphones, digital cameras, and computers. He was a frequent guest on CNBC and had been delivering business presentations for at least 20 years before we met. And yet, the CEO wanted to sharpen his public speaking skills.

How To Make a Company Profile Presentation with Examples and Templates

Imagine a presenter who can resonate with their target audience so effectively that they inspire the required trust and confidence to get new relationships started. That’s the primary goal of a successful company profile presentation.

As Nancy Duarte has said in her book Resonate , “Presenting ideas can either evoke puzzled stares or frenzied enthusiasm, which is determined by how well the message is delivered and how well it resonates with the audience.” Precisely because we know how vital this is to any business, we’re revising how to write a productive company profile in this article.

We’ve included company profile examples in this article to learn from others on how to best present your company. In this article, we’re strictly referring to company profile presentations.

What is a company profile?

As we’ve described before in our company profile templates category, a company profile is a resource organizations can use for creating presentations that describe the essential aspects of a company.

Company profile uses

A company profile is meant to assist in presenting a company to an audience. With that understanding, it can help with topics ranging from sales to internal company presentations, for example:

Introducing the company to its new employees

If we understand this resource as a polished portfolio or dossier, it’s easier to conceive how it can back up almost any pitch for diverse collaborations. The tool is suitable for showing a company’s philosophy, intentions, and plans to an audience.

Acquiring new investors

Promote your brand with it, or use the resource to persuade investors during fundraising for your company. You can also rely on it to present your company to prospects by crafting a professional company presentation.

Marketing presentations

Another aspect to consider is that company profiles are great for media presentations, back up any sponsorship opportunities, and get new collaborators to pitch in with our global company vision and plans.

How to create a company profile presentation: step-by-step instructions

Putting a company profile presentation together helps to focus on each slide at a time. Focus on the meaningful content of your company profile and use slides to complement your message.

Here is a run-down of each slide, one by one, to help put your company profile together. Alternatively, you can create your company profile presentation deck using SlideModel’s AI Presentation Maker tool and prepare your presentation for final PowerPoint edits.

Step 1 – Company Profile Cover Page

Your first slide can include your company logo , a title that typically reads “Company Profile”, and a sub-title. A quick one-liner description can be entered here or a meaningful short text with a motto or phrase.

Tips for presenting a company profile presentation

Step 2 – Mission & Vision

In general, you’re seeking to include the vision and mission slides in these first part of a company presentation. The classic piece of advice here is to state a company’s mission to give out what you’re looking to achieve. If you have doubts on what to include in a mission and vision slide, learn here how to prepare a successful vision statement .

Very much tied to the above, start by seeking a compelling introductory section for a company presentation.

Defining a Company's Vision and Mission in Company Profile presentation

Step 3 – What we do

Next, introduce your services or products in a medium-sized slide text. Nancy Duarte again guides us with valuable wisdom on this aspect as she recalls how “communicating only the detailed specifications or functional overviews of a product isn’t enough.” Look for an emotional rapport in your product introduction as much as possible. Ideally, you’ll address consumers’ or your audience’s pain points in a way that compels them to hear more.

On this last note about your audience, go deeply into their ways of thought, desires, interests, and needs to determine the problems and challenges they’re facing. Clearly defining what your proposed solution of value will be throughout your company pitch is a great way to present your company profile.

Far from overdoing it, focus on your main business areas to present your top three to six. Use images or icons for visual support. Include a supporting text on a service description, and the benefits of these for your target audience.

What we do Slide for company profile presentation

Step 4 – About the Company

And enter your company description in the next slide. This is usually presented with the header “About Us.” If your growth is at the point where it makes an impact once the story is told, include it. The same applies to any awards or key certifications you may have in your name. If you’ve made it to the news or media in great light, or if there’s any vital history that can be an impressive point for your company’s reputation, it may be worth adding those here.

An About Page for a Company Profile presentation

If you don’t want to start from scratch, you can use the About Us slide templates for PowerPoint.

In a nutshell, use all of your relevant bragging rights as you see fit. Stress any significant milestones your company could have achieved by the time you present. And narrow down your niche and any location-specific expertise you may have working to your advantage.

Step 5 – Present the Team

Follow with your team slide through a Meet the Team slide design. Show a few images of your leading talent. As usual with a team slide, consider the most common recommendations on who to highlight and what to include. You’re looking for the most reputable milestones of your team members’ careers as a highlight of their background to make a shining difference. If a particular person or group makes a stellar difference by being an experienced part of your team, include the following slide with just those party’s credentials and best references.

Showcasing the team in Company Profile presentation

Step 6 – Company major milestones

Then move to portray the company’s significant milestones in a timeline visually . The idea is to make your roadmap visually clear. For that, title each part of the process, give it a brief description, and extend timeline indications onto a separate slide, if you prefer.

Timeline illustration of a company's milestones

Step 7 – Relevant Data

If you need to add PowerPoint chart templates , the next few slides would be a proper section to include these. Give descriptions of the data you’re presenting. Include a mix between pie charts, line and bar graphs, and other formats as you move along.

Company Profile Presentation Data Charts Slide

Our Company profile PowerPoint template , for example, includes a world map that allows users to pinpoint company locations around the globe. The idea is to make the company’s global reach a lot more visible.

All of the above coincides with a total of 15 slides we put together as part of this company PowerPoint-friendly material. Edit its background, move data around, and customize it as you see fit.

From here on, we suggest adding positive reviews via client testimonials. You can even add a client portfolio if you already have a great, solid base. Any good words about you from relevant parties will reinforce your credibility as the final touch and your conclusion slide.

Why use company profile templates?

Using PowerPoint presentation templates for company profiles is the first step toward a professional job. The primary justification for this choice is how much easier it is to edit, add, remove, or re-write a slide compared to other formats. Depending on how often you’ll need to customize this resource to pitch an audience, making quick changes can be easy and convenient.

Also, consider how quickly a company is going to face alterations in terms of products, finances, milestones, and diverse goals. Adding or removing a slide is very easy!

While we’re touching upon edits, keep your texts short and relevant descriptions. Avoid long blocks of content or jam-packed illustrations, even using graphs, tables, or others. As with any slide for any purpose, keep your presentation as lean as possible.

Alternatively, you can access our free company profile template to create an excellent company presentation.

Recommendations on company profiles

Speaking of purpose, define what the company profile is set out to achieve. An investment plan or trade portfolio can be a part of why a company profile is needed. Align objectives in this sense with the overall content.

If it isn’t evident, add the company logo to the company profile presentation. If you’re using pictures, make sure they’re of the highest quality, as this speaks professionalism. Some logo maker tools offer preset presentation sizes which makes the process easier.

As for contact details, seek to include email, phone, corporate address, and even a website mention. Adding these details is a way to let potential clients quickly learn more about your company. Social media accounts are also a must in terms of outreach and potential customers checking the company’s trajectory. To make it convenient and for a streamlined access to your contact information, add a digital business card with relevant contact details including website link and social media handles.

Company profiles might not be the best place to include financial reports or any corporate problems you’re dealing. On the contrary, they’re intended to draw people to your business and make them fall in love with a brand, its mission, and its vision.

That’s why it’s so important to seek to appeal to your audience’s emotions. How you can call upon an emotional connection with what you’re presenting is a great guiding principle as you build your next company profile presentation material, script, setting, and performance. Every aspect counts! Control what happens rather than leaving it to chance.

Examples of successful company profiles

Study cases for eco-friendly companies.

From a two-page company profile for a food waste management solution company to an 88-page document of the exact nature of one of Australia’s Equity Trustee companies, we’re detailing various company profile examples for a clearer idea of what these can include.

MAEKO made a clear statement in just a couple of slides, clearly defining its mission & vision, its niche, the offered solution for a world-class problem, and displaying its products’ end purpose.

The annual report from Equity Holdings Ltd. instead presents data in a consolidated way that both shareholders and potential business partners can quickly appreciate. Though lengthy, the main goal behind this approach is to provide complete insights into each aspect of the trust’s management, profits & losses.

We hope this has helped, and, of course, let us know if you’d like to see more or different. We’re here to help you excel every step of the way. Also, check out our step-by-step guide on how to make a PowerPoint Presentation .

Reddit's IPO is set to make the 'front page of the internet' public

  • The "front page of the internet" is finally ready to go public.
  • Reddit shares start trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.
  • Here's what you need to know about its IPO as it targets a $6.4 billion valuation.

Insider Today

Reddit might have been self-anointed the "front page of the internet" almost two decades ago, but its time to face the public has just arrived.

The social-media forum is set to list Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange — marking a milestone for the company created in 2005 by a pair of college roommates from the University of Virginia.

Back then, Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, its cofounders who'd go by the usernames spez and kn0thing, respectively, worked under the stewardship of the veteran Silicon Valley investor Paul Graham to build a social platform just as Mark Zuckerberg was taking Facebook mainstream.

After bringing Aaron Swartz on board — the late computer programmer then known as a developer behind RSS feeds — the company was ready to capture the attention of people using news-aggregation services like Digg by offering its own take.

The launch of subreddits in 2008 made for a turning point as communities grew around interest-based groups on the site. However, the freedom given to anonymous users to roam without oversight has left it to contend with a reputation of being social media's underbelly.

While it grew through a sale to the media giant Condé Nast in 2006, before being spun out to its parent company, Advance Publications , Reddit has struggled to find a path to profitability.

Though it has taken its time, Reddit finally seems ready to prove its doubters wrong.

On Wednesday Reddit priced its shares at $34 , at the top of the range, implying a $6.4 billion valuation. The IPO is set to be one of the largest listings in recent memory in a test of investor appetite.

There's a lot of uncertainty in the run-up to the day.

Related stories

Despite being created at a similar time to rivals such as Facebook and X, Reddit's platform has an average of 73.1 million daily active users, a far cry from the roughly 2 billion and 245 million daily users those two services have respectively.

Lower losses

Meanwhile, the IPO market more broadly has suffered a drought in recent years as uncertain market conditions have threatened to chop down ambitious valuation targets. Investors must weigh Reddit's current health to determine whether its target valuation is valid.

In its IPO filing last month, Reddit revealed that revenue had grown by about 21% last year, while its net loss at the end of 2023 was $90.8 million, down from $158.6 million the previous year.

Those losses haven't dissuaded investors just yet, it seems. Reddit's IPO is between four and five times oversubscribed, Reuters reported Sunday citing unnamed sources.

Still, as my colleague Peter Kafka has noted , that's still a lot of money for Reddit to burn. In part, it's been spending heavily on engineering talent: about $439 million, or 55% of its revenue, went to research and development, which included engineer salaries.

No doubt, part of the bet investors will be making is that the R&D spend is focused on the technology of the moment: artificial intelligence .

In its S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Reddit positioned itself as an indispensable component of the generative-AI boom. It described its content as a "foundational part of how many of the leading large language models ("LLMs") have been trained."

Reuters reported last month that Reddit had sought to monetize that content by striking a licensing deal with Google to make its data available to the search giant's AI models for $60 million a year.

That could boost those with a stake in the IPO, like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, whose holding of Reddit shares could be worth between $51.4 million and $56.4 million .

Reddit plans to list 22 million shares raising about $750 million, with loyal Redditors getting a chance to purchase stock in addition to the usual crowd of institutional investors.

The internet's front page is about to become much more visible.

Microsoft Surface and AI event: 5 biggest announcements you might've missed this week

sabrina-ortiz

Microsoft is arguably the leader in the AI space right now, constantly releasing new offerings and updates to stay ahead of the curve. Therefore, it is no surprise that the company took to its March Surface and Windows AI event this week to unveil a handful of new AI features and hardware.

Also:  Microsoft unveils Surface Pro 10 and Laptop 6 with AI features. Here's what's new

As Microsoft's event description, "Advancing the new era of work with Copilot," implied, the event focused on the company's AI offerings specifically for its enterprise customers. Instead, Microsoft Build, taking place in May, will have announcements better suited for general consumers. Until then, here's everything the company unveiled at its Surface event.

1. Copilot in Microsoft 365 is now on Windows

The headlining AI news at the event is that Copilot capabilities in Microsoft 365 are finally coming to Windows. This is a major win for working professionals because now within the Copilot in Windows interface, they can select a "Work" option to enable Copilot in Microsoft 365, as seen in the photo above.

Also: Microsoft Copilot vs. Copilot Pro: Is the subscription fee worth it?

Copilot in Microsoft 365 is a workflow game changer because it infuses Copilot assistance across all of the 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more, to assist with tasks such as creating PowerPoint presentations, writing assistance, and interpreting spreadsheet data. Basically, Copilot can understand the user's entire universe of work data to provide even deeper assistance.

2. New Copilot accessibility features in Windows 11

At the end of the month, there will be a new release of Windows 11 preview which will feature a host of new Copilot skills for accessibility. For example, users will be able to ask Copilot to turn on the narrator and screen magnifier, change text size, or start live captions.

Also: Windows 11's big new update is full of AI and rolling out now - here's what's in it

Asking Copilot to help adjust PC settings enables users to have more control of their device, making it easier to access crucial settings instead of having to navigate through a series of different tabs and struggle to find what they're specifically looking for.

3. The first AI-powered Surface PCs for business

After launching the Surface Pro 9 or Surface Laptop 5 two years ago, Microsoft finally unveiled the succeeding models -- the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. Because this was Microsoft's first hardware launch in the era of the AI PC, the business devices got under-the-hood upgrades, including a new processor, to better support AI and productivity tasks.

Also: Surface vs. MacBook: Can Microsoft's new Arm-based AI PCs compete with Apple?

Both models sport a new Intel Core Ultra (5 or 7) processor which features a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for better device performance and battery efficiency, especially when performing AI-related tasks. As seen in the photo above, the appearance of the Surface devices remains relatively unchanged.

For a full rundown of what the new products feature, you can read ZDNET's Senior Reviews Editor Kerry Wan's roundup .

4. Windows 365 GPU support

Although this feature doesn't use AI, it can certainly be helpful for tasks related to it. Windows 365 GPU has the potential to improve many professionals' workflows by allowing users access to GPU-empowered cloud PCs. The improved graphics performance of these machines will be essential for tasks that require more power such as in graphics design, image and video editing (and rendering), and more.

Microsoft says Windows 365 GPU support, currently available in preview, was highly requested by customers who wanted access to a GPU in a Software-as-a-Service solution.

5. The first Copilot key on a Microsoft device

It wouldn't be the launch of an AI PC without the mention of a Copilot key. Both the new Surface devices and the new Surface Pro Keyboard, pictured above, include a dedicated Copilot key to make it easier for users to get direct access to AI assistance. It certainly helps that Windows users without the latest PC or Surface device can still access the feature by clicking the Copilot icon from the Windows 11 taskbar.

The wait for Max ‘s European launch is nearly over.

The Warner Bros Discovery streaming service will launch in the Nordics, Iberia, and Central and Eastern Europe — where HBO Max is already available — on May 21, with launches in Poland, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium following closely after. House of the Dragon season 2 will debut in Europe on June 17.

Notably, Max will be the only platform to stream all live coverage of the Paris Olympic Games later this year. The service will also provide a bigger content offer than HBO Max, with the likes of Barbie, The Last of Us ,  The White Lotus , Euphoria , and True Detective: Night Country .

A sports add-on will offer the likes of the tennis Grand Slams, the US Open and the Tour de France, with rights varying in different countries. Linear networks such as CNN International and WBD’s Polish channel TVN will be offered locally.

Announcing the roll out timings at the Series Mania festival in France today, JB Perrette , CEO and President of Global Streaming & Games at Warner Bros. Discovery said: “Max is the streaming home of Warner Bros. Discovery and builds on our long heritage in Europe, bringing together an incredible breadth and depth of culture-defining entertainment from our services and networks, all in one place. The unrivalled content we’ve got on Max from  House of the Dragon to the  Olympic Games Paris 2024  and beyond means whatever your mood or the occasion, Max has something great for everyone, every time.”

WBD International President Gerhard Zeiler and EMEA Head of Streaming Leah Hooper Rosa had first announced the plan to launch Max in Europe at Mipcom Cannes last year.

Looking further ahead, we understand WBD is planning to launch Max in the UK — something that has been widely expected since the international rollout was first announced.

The rights picture in the UK is complicated, with Sky the exclusive distributor of most HBO content through its lucrative licensing deal with WBD. That agreement ends in two years, but it is believed certain shows such as House of the Dragon are tied to Sky via ‘life of series’ agreements, meaning the platform will continue to show them regardless of a wider deal.

Last year, Sky CEO Dana Strong has said she was “optimistic” that the Comcast-owned company’s UK division can keep hold of HBO content when the deal comes up for renewal in 2026. It is likely the pair will look to form some type of agreement, with one source suggesting Max could be carried exclusively on the Sky pay-TV platform.

WBD was the first of the U.S. studios to post a full-year profit for its streaming segment, making $103M in 2023.

The Trumpification of Kristi Noem

The South Dakota governor’s new teeth are just the latest step in a very MAGA makeover.

Kristi Noem and Donald Trump, arms outstretched, greet each other at a political rally. Both wear red MAGA caps. Crowds are seen behind red, white and blue bunting.

By Vanessa Friedman

Vanessa Friedman has been chronicling the use of image as a communication device in politics since the Bush v. Gore election of 2000.

Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakota, is readying for her national close-up. How else to interpret her recent controversial trip to Texas to “fix” her smile, documented in a lengthy video ?

You know, the one she posted on X, Facebook and Instagram, singing the praises of Smile Texas, the cosmetic dental clinic that remedied what she said had been a problem incurred long ago in an accident while bicycling with her children. The one that chronicled her journey to, she said, “a smile that I can be proud of and confident in.”

The result seemed so much like a promotional infomercial that Travelers United, a consumer advocacy group, is suing Ms. Noem for misleading advertising, claiming she was effectively acting as a travel influencer. Vanity Fair wrote that the whole exercise was “blowing up in her face.”

Except for one thing. The teeth story is about a lot more than teeth.

As the race to be Donald J. Trump’s running mate heats up, Ms. Noem’s new smile reflects a tactical move that has as much to do with politics and psychology as it does with appearance.

“It’s all about her appeal to an audience of one,” Ron Bonjean, a Republican strategist, said. “The whole teeth thing almost looks like it was done for Trump to see. She is showing him she works well in front of the camera, that she has that star power he wants onstage with him, while fitting into the mode of women in the Trump universe.”

Mr. Trump was, after all, the president who often identified his staff members, especially members of the military, as coming from “central casting .” He now dresses almost entirely in the colors of the American flag. He reportedly liked women to “dress like women ” — and, as Richard Thompson Ford, a law professor at Stanford University and the author of “Dress Codes: How the Laws of Fashion Made History,” said, “We know what that means to him.” It is reflected in the profile of almost every woman in the Trump orbit, including his family members and his former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

In this, Ms. Noem’s dental upgrade is simply the most recent step in what appears to be a yearslong makeover that has transformed her, more than any other woman on Mr. Trump’s shortlist, into what Samantha N. Sheppard, a professor of cinema and media studies at Cornell University, called “the perfect ornament for Trump.” Even beyond her popularity and credentials as a governor, and her MAGA platform, she offers an example of a certain kind of “Miss America-like white femininity,” Ms. Sheppard said, also reflected in Fox News anchors and that involves cascading hair, extensive eyelashes and a blinding smile.

How does Mr. Trump know she’s part of his team? All he has to do is look.

The story is told in the imagery. Back in 2010, when she was first running for Congress, Ms. Noem had a haircut that looked like a cross between “the Rachel,” the layered, straightened haircut Jennifer Aniston made famous on “Friends,” and the power bob favored by Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. When she won re-election in 2012, she had chopped it into a short look that Ms. Sheppard compared to the signature haircut of Kate Gosselin from “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” albeit slightly more corporatized.

After Mr. Trump won the presidency and the MAGA movement took off, Ms. Noem adopted a new look. Her hair got longer and longer, with tousled waves kissed by the curling iron, her part moved to the center. She began to resemble a doppelgänger for Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée. Or a dark-haired version of Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife and the new co-chair of the Republican National Committee. Even Ms. Noem’s clothes changed, from the khaki shirtdress she wore to CPAC in 2011 to the bright blue sheath she chose for her State of the State address this year.

There is no better example of her transformation than the cover photo on her new book , “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” which features a portrait of Ms. Noem with lips glossed, eyelashes thick and one hand seemingly playing with her wavy locks as she sits in her desk chair in a blazer and dress before the American flag.

“She practically looks like a member of the Trump family,” Mr. Bonjean said. “Maybe a cousin.”

And while her Trumpification could be a coincidence, Ms. Noem has revealed herself to be sensitive to the effects and uses of costuming, as seen in recent ads in which she dressed up as a dental hygienist, an electrician and a highway patrolman, the better to convey the idea that “South Dakota is hiring.” (“We have over 20,000 open jobs,” she says in one ad. Plus no individual income tax!)

“It’s absolutely strategic,” Mr. Ford said. Ms. Noem is “signaling that she’s going to be Trump’s kind of woman. And, at the same time, that she isn’t going to challenge him.”

This approach to political image-making has its roots in the pantomimed femininity of Phyllis Schlafly and Sarah Palin, where the promise of a powerful woman was defanged by her participation in the pageantry of traditional gender cosplay.

The teeth simply finish the picture, as does the fact that Ms. Noem used the opportunity to talk up the dentist who did the procedure. If anyone would recognize the value of using power to push product it is Mr. Trump himself. And perhaps, in doing so, recognize a kindred spirit.

The governor may sell herself in part as a grass-roots cowgirl, but Ms. Noem is speaking Mr. Trump’s language, proving that she belongs and that she is all in with his vision. That she is going to “get in line and stay in line,” Ms. Sheppard said. “That she knows how to conduct herself and be who he needs her to be.”

In any case, he has clearly noticed. A few days after the tooth news broke, Ms. Noem joined Mr. Trump at a rally for the Senate candidate Bernie Moreno in Vandalia, Ohio. After she spoke — they were wearing matching MAGA hats — Mr. Trump announced : “You’re not allowed to say it, so I will not. You’re not allowed to say she’s beautiful, so I’m not going to say it.”

What could she do but smile?
