Speech No.1: Speech on Father

  • Speaker: Any Person
  • Audience: Students, Teachers, General Publi c

Respected principal, teachers, and my dear schoolmates

Good Morning

My self…(Self Intro)

In his younger years, a man once said, I would like to quote him

“I didn’t understand why you were so tough on me. Now that I’m an adult, I see that everything was done to keep me safe and prevent me from making the same errors you did “

because a father typically behaves all severely and strictly with children.

Many people, most especially children, feel more comfortable communicating their concerns, ambitions, and aspirations with their mothers than with their fathers. However, love and care are hidden beneath the hard facade.

In spite of our tendency to overlook their love and care, fathers are the foundation of the family. Although he may appear to be a strict disciplinarian, the father has a tender heart that shows deep affection for his children.

You will be wondering why I chose to speak on this topic, but isn’t it a matter of appreciation for the person who made us or helped us to be what we are today? That’s why I want to thank him for sacrificing his life for me. And let me say my dad has always kept our home a secure and welcoming place, which is one of the qualities I appreciate most about him.

For example, we don’t have to be concerned about getting in trouble or being watched when my siblings and I chat with him about anything. We can no longer lie, as I frequently see among my friends as a result of this. He occasionally assists my mother with cooking and other chores around the house.

He is loyal to his family and trustworthy. He enjoys spending time with me. He is one of my heroes, and I want to imitate him one day by following in his footsteps. He is the one who keeps the family together and protects us from danger. He is there to watch as the child graduates from college and becomes a working-class man or woman.

I can keep talking about the role of a father in a child’s life without coming to an end because that’s just how awesome and great fathers are. The one buddy we can always rely on is our father.

And to conclude, I would like to say or quote American novelist Margaret Truman, “You can only measure his greatness and fully appreciate it when you grow up and step back from him or leave him for your own home.”

Speech No.2: Simple Speech on My Father

  • Speaker: School And College Student

Respected teachers and my dear friends,

Today, I want to share with you about someone very special to me – my father. My father is an amazing person who plays a big role in my life. He is my hero, my friend, and someone I respect. Let me tell you a little about my father.

First and foremost, my father loves me very much. He shows his love through his actions and words. Every day, he hugs me tightly and tells me how much he cares for me. His love makes me feel safe and happy. I know that no matter what happens, my father will always be there for me.

My father is also very smart and intelligent. He knows many things and taught me many important lessons. When I have questions or need help with my schoolwork, he patiently explains things to me until I understand. He encourages me to learn new things and always reminds me of the importance of education.

My father is not only smart, but he is also a hard worker. He goes to work every day to support our family. I see how much effort he puts into his work and it motivates me to work harder too. My father taught me the value of determination and perseverance.

One of the things I appreciate most about my father is his kindness. He is always ready to help others, be it a neighbor in need or a friend who needs a helping hand. He teaches me to be kind to everyone and extend a helping hand whenever possible.

Besides being kind, my father is a lot of fun to be around. We’ve had wonderful adventures together. We play sports, hang out and have a lot of laughs. These are the moments I cherish the most, and I am grateful for the time we spend together.

Lastly, my father is my biggest cheerleader. He believes in me and encourages me to follow my dreams. Whenever I achieve something, big or small, my father celebrates with me. Their support gives me the confidence to believe in myself and strive for success.

Lastly, my father is an incredible person who loves me, teaches me, works hard, and is always there for me. I am very lucky to have him as my father. Today, I want to say many thanks to them for everything they do. I love you, Dad!

Thank you all for listening.

speech writing role of father in my life

English that goes straight to the heart

My Role Model is My Father Essay

The importance of the word ‘Father’ and its general worth towards family is limitless. This word generates honor because of symbol good deeds which every head of the family tries to earn.

My Role Model is My Father Essay

My father is the guiding force and leader of our family, bringing our aspirations into reality. He is not just a figurehead, but a role model who foresees the needs of the time and shapes our family through his unwavering responsibility and dedication. I hold immense respect for him due to his extraordinary achievements.

Daily Test - Attempt Now

As my role model, my father accompanies me in all my endeavors, ensuring that I make the right choices. He attentively listens to my problems and imparts valuable lessons to shape my thinking. His primary concern is my future career, and he leverages his maturity, knowledge, and awareness of the modern world to evaluate my interests and decisions, going above and beyond to help me develop and achieve my goals.

Despite his financial limitations, my father fulfills my genuine needs and ensures that I never feel inadequate. He works tirelessly, sweating profusely, to increase his earnings for my sake. He sacrifices his own comfort, willingly eating less, in order to provide for my well-being.

Being educated and possessing a logical vision, my father has evolved into a contemporary and progressive figure. He utilizes his knowledge and embraces modernity to raise me in a manner that equips me to thrive in today’s competitive world. He leaves no gaps in meeting my needs and actively supports my personal growth and career-building process.

As an ideal father, my father spares no effort in fulfilling my necessities. He strives to eliminate any obstacles that could hinder my development and career path, leaving no room for shortcomings.

What sets my role model father apart is his refusal to impose his own career choices on me. He believes that I should pursue a future based on my own passions, suitability, and capabilities. The tradition of following specific family professions is fading away, as doctors no longer insist on their children becoming doctors, professors do not compel their offspring to pursue academia, and army officers do not force their sons into the military. Similarly, my father desires that I have a better future according to my own choices.

My father is a mature and understanding individual who assists me in making important decisions. Like most devoted fathers, he plays a significant role in my life, supporting my career aspirations and helping me overcome daily challenges. When I face difficulties and seek guidance, I instinctively turn to my father. He selflessly puts aside his own priorities to provide the necessary support. He works tirelessly, making countless sacrifices to help me navigate through my problems.

We celebrate Father’s Day every year on 19 June to strengthen the relationship and remind a father of the sacrifices he endured towards his kids when they were in need. Unfortunately, it has become a mere formality for many, lacking genuine emotional connection and appreciation. In today’s times, children often choose to live separately from their fathers, prioritizing their own families and disregarding their responsibilities towards their aging fathers, who cling to hope for support.

It is very important that our fathers should be given deep respect and utmost respect not only because they are fathers, but for their unparalleled fatherhood and incredible sacrifices towards us. We must recognize the value of their presence and the impact they have on our lives. By cherishing our fathers, upholding our duties, and expressing gratitude for their sacrifices, we can truly acknowledge the exceptional role models they are in our lives.

Sample Speeches on Father

Here are a few sample speeches that you can refer to for preparing a speech on father.

“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society”. These are the words of Billy Graham, an American evangelist. If you agree with this statement and, at the same time, thought about your father, then I must say that you really love your father. There are multiple sacrifices that a father makes for his family and children. Without complaining, he works all day, in order to assure that the best is delivered to his wife and children. A good father loves his family more than anything in this world, and he commits all the actions not as a sacrifice but as a reverence for the family. Even though a father does all these duties, he still remains the most unsung, unpraised, and unnoticed. Fathers don’t usually seek attention; they don’t do things for exhibition but for showing their pure love.

Children often seem to be closer to their mothers in the initial stages as they spend most of their time with them. Fathers play a very important role but goes unnoticed most of the time as they are away at work.  Just like mothers, fathers crave to be with their children too. They are left with no other option but to leave their beloved newborns and go to work in order to meet their family’s needs. Being a father is a huge responsibility. There will be occasions when they will even have to sacrifice their own happiness to make their children and family content. A father offers enough support and helps his children achieve their dreams and aspirations. A father provides a strong backup (both financially and morally) for his children to reach successful heights in their life. He will always have a resolute mindset to protect and support them in all inconveniences.

Two Minute Speech on Father

Do you know what Ama H Vanniarachchy said about fathers? Ama H Vanniarachchy is a Sri Lankan writer, illustrator, journalist, and scholar in archaeology. According to her, “A father’s tears and fears are unseen, his love is unexpressed, but his care and protection remain as a pillar of strength throughout our lives”. What a wonderful quote about fathers, right!

A father is always someone whom we look up to with great hope. For every problem that an individual faces in one’s life, in some way or the other, the father will come up with solutions. Whenever something bad happens to us, the very first image appearing in our minds will be that of our father. Even though we all praise different superheroes from different films, the real superhero that needs to be praised is our father. Even in the darkest of times, a father will be there to light up our lives.

What are the top quotes that we can use while presenting a speech on father?

  • “A father’s tears and fears are unseen, his love is unexpressed, but his care and protection remains as a pillar of strength throughout our lives”. – Ama H Vanniarachchy
  • “A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society” – Billy Graham.
  • “The greatest tribute a boy can give to his father is to say, ‘When I grow up, I want to be just like my dad.” – Billy Graham.

What are the sweet things to say to my father to make him happy?

  • I’m so happy that you’re my father.
  • I am prouder than you can imagine.
  • I am so grateful to have you as my father.

How can I express my love to my father?

Don’t hesitate. If you want to express your love to your father, go and tell him. Give him a hug. Try to write down words of affection or prepare a speech for him.

He plays a vital role in everyone’s life. Today I am going to tell you all about my father.

My father name is ……………. He works as a software engineer in Infosys, Bangalore. He is one of the smartest father & most hard-working. He is an exceptional speaker & very friendly. On weekends we read stories, swimming & do lots of shopping. He also helps me learn guitar as he is a trained guitarist. He is very talented & ever smiling. Whenever I do not get any solution to a problem, the first thing I do is to ask Dad as he gives the best suggestions to all my problems. He also takes us on trips & treats on a few weekends. We both enjoy playing video games together. He is very understanding, which allows me to share everything with my father. He is a very patience full, calm & down to earth person.

Sometimes he also does help my mother with cooking & other household work. He is straightforward & a family-loving person. He loves spending time with me so as for me. He always keeps me mesmerised by managing everything perfectly well on time. I want to make him proud one day by being like him. I will make sure that I do every possible thing which keeps him happy & healthy. I love him a lot. I would like to conclude my speech with a quote.

Fathers are the first men in our lives. They are often the ones we call in the middle of the night when a nightmare frightens us, no matter how old we are. Honoring your father on Father’s Day with a card or cake is one thing — but giving a speech can become a cherished memory. It’s a great way to begin to say, “thank you, Dad,” especially if you feel you’re a bit behind.

Jump ahead to these sections:

Writing a speech about your dad on father’s day, sample father’s day speeches.

But how can you possibly capture what your dad means to you, much less for others to hear, too? Don’t worry — speechwriting and delivery don’t have to be scary. Below, we’ve provided a step-by-step guide for how to write a speech for your dad as well as some samples for inspiration.

To help you save the date and make sure you have time to prepare, here are the dates for Father's Day for the next few years:

2022: Sunday, June 19 2023: Sunday, June 18 2024: Sunday, June 16 2025: Sunday, June 15 2026: Sunday, June 21

Writing a speech for someone unimportant to you is difficult, yet you may find that writing a speech about someone extremely important to you is just as hard. If you’re going through your first Father’s Day without your dad , this can also be tough, but all the more reason to speak about him.

Step 1: Reflect

Perhaps the most important part of writing your speech is what comes prior — reflection. Think about everything your dad means to you. Look at some old photographs of the two of you. Recall some inside jokes. Watch a few of your favorite shows or movies.

All of this can serve as “research” as well as get you in the right headspace to craft a meaningful, heartwarming speech that’s undoubtedly about you and your dad. Plus, adding in minor details, anecdotes, and memories make it not only easier to write but that much more special, too. You may also be interested in how to write a commemorative speech .

Step 2: Decide on some details

After the reflect and research phase, you should jot down some of the most significant things that come to mind. What character traits or qualities make your dad your dad? What about him do you want to emphasize to others hearing your speech? What are some of your most special memories? Is there a specific story you’d like to tell?

Asking yourself all of these questions can help the small details come to life — and boom! You’ve made a ton of progress on the actual speech itself, even if it doesn’t feel like it. Creating a solid foundation for the remainder of your speech to rest on is perhaps the most important part anyway.

Plus, breaking up the writing process into smaller parts makes the entire undertaking seem that much more doable (at least we hope so).

Step 3: Write your draft

Now it’s time for the dirty work. Actually writing. Whether you love it or hate it, it can be incredibly healing and freeing. Frustrating, too, yes. If at any point during your drafting process you become stuck, it may be time to take a break. Focus on something else for a bit, or even put the speech writing on hold for another day.

When writing your draft, you should surround yourself with any notes or ideas you’ve already jotted down, as well as any small mementos or photos of you and your dad. If you don’t see him too often or he’s no longer around, these physical reminders of him can serve as powerful sources of inspiration and motivation.

It’s important to emphasize, too, that writing this speech shouldn’t feel like a class assignment or obligation. You should enjoy the process. Think about it as if you’re just having a conversation with your dad or telling someone you care about what he means to you. Speak sincerely — but you don’t have to be serious. Adding in humor and keeping it lighthearted will make it that much more genuine.

Step 4: Practice and edit

After you have a bit written, you should read your draft out loud and begin practicing for the actual delivery of your speech. Again, you shouldn’t let this bug you or make you nervous. Telling others about someone you love should feel liberating. Love is a very powerful thing.

Even if your dad can’t physically be in the room when you deliver your speech, act as if he is. In fact, act as though he’s the only other person in the room if it helps you.

As you’re reading and practicing your speech out loud, this can also call attention to any areas that need improvement. Have you missed any words? How’s your grammar looking?

One of the good things about speechwriting is that you’re free to markup the draft you read from (or memorize, if you want to go above and beyond) — no one is going to judge it. Of course, if you’re providing a printed copy for anyone in the audience, be sure that those are scratch-free.

Step 5: Finalize (and practice some more)

Reading your draft out loud has probably called out all the areas that need work. You may also find it helpful to read your speech from the end to the beginning. It may sound odd, but it can help you focus on each word and whether or not each sentence flows.

Practicing the delivery of your speech to just yourself may not be effective. But, that being said, you may wish to just wing the performance — and that’s totally fine. However, practicing in front of a loved one can be helpful, too. Plus, you know you’ll have at least one member of the audience who’ll be sure to laugh on cue.

What better way to thank a man who’s been by you through it all than with a speech? Below, we’ve provided sample speeches for a few different moods and scenarios. You may also be interested in tributes to dads .

Funny Father’s Day speech example

You’re right, I did lose a bet. Just kidding. I love you and wanted to brag about you to everyone.

There was a rough point last year when I wasn’t sure where we’d be — but I couldn’t be happier with everything as it is right now.

I’m surrounded by family members that pretend to love me, or at least put up with me — you included. I don’t know how you do it. But then, I look at you, and then I look in the mirror, and I get it.

Granted, I have a little more hair than you still, but I’m sure I’ll catch up.

I’m grateful for you for so many reasons, but mainly it’s that I inherited your devilishly good looks. Then, of course, I have Mom to thank for everything else. Just kidding, again.

You’re the greatest role model to me and one of my best friends. Thank you for the years and years of laughter and for letting me kick your butt in Scrabble®.

Emotional Father’s Day speech example

Or should I say, hero? I know it makes you uncomfortable for me to call you that. But you are. The example you have set for me and my brothers is something that shouldn’t go uncelebrated or unnoticed.

Despite adversity, you are a force of love in our home and in our community. You have taught me what it means to be strong when the world wants us all to be weak.

I could never possibly thank you enough for all you’ve done for our family over the years. You are so brave, and intelligent, and humble, and you sing pretty well, too!

I love you so much, Dad.

Father’s Day speech from daughter example

When Mom passed away last year — I’m going to be honest — I thought my world was over, too. I know it was equally hard for you.

It would be crazy for me to sit here and say that our relationship was without bumps in the road. I never made it easy for you.

But this past year has been nothing short of amazing. I never thought I could say that again. You have stepped in as a confidant, an advisor, and most importantly, a dear friend.

I may never get over losing Mom, but in the process, I regained a Dad. I hope we can continue to work on everything we’ve built over the past year.

I love you, Dad.

Father’s Day speech from son example

I bet you never thought you’d see me standing up here, speaking about anything. We all know how well my freshman debate class went.

But I couldn’t just sit by without telling everyone — if they don’t already know — just how important you are.

I’ve had plenty of friends over the years. You know very well who my best friends still are. But I think all of them will agree even that they don’t even compare to you.

You have continually showed up for me in ways I never thought were possible. I haven’t given much thought yet about being a dad — trust me, I’m in no rush. But you make me want to be a dad someday.

I’m nervous, I’m not gonna lie. How could I possibly be even a small bit like you to my son or to my daughter?

But then, I remember. You’ll be there, too, God willing. You’ll be there with the perfect piece of advice when I need it. The perfect joke or movie reference when I’m sad or feeling like life is too much. Because you’re always there when I need you.

Before I cry (again), I’m going to end this with just a thank you. Thank you, Dad. I love you.

1. Father’s Day Speech No. 1

Listen to this speech:

Introduction:

Good day everyone, my name is anonymous and I’m here to briefly talk about my father on this special day.

Attention Getter

Who is a father? Billy Graham (American evangelist) said and I quote “a good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society”.

Speech Body:

Today, we are celebrating father’s day and I have a million things to say about him, but time will not permit me. I can go on and on about my father and we still wouldn’t arrive at a conclusion.  Over the years, my father has been extraordinary to me, I can proudly say with total conviction, that he is more than just being my father. He is my muse, my personal superhero, and my friend.

He would always listen to my problems and proffer solutions, he knows when I’m happy and when I’m not and in the case of the latter, he puts a smile on my face faster than anyone in the entire universe.

Being a father is not an easy task, it’s a big responsibility and I hope to be a good father to my children, just the way my father was good to me.

On a final note, I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have you as my father and words alone can’t express how grateful I am for your priceless love and care and for being there for me all these years.

Thanks everyone, for your time and attention.

2. Father’s Day Speech No. 2

Listen to this speech:

Short Fathers Day Speech

Hello everyone, my name is anonymous and this speech is aimed at talking about the greatness of fathers on this special day… father’s day. But before I begin, let me quickly share this quote with you.

Attention Getter:

According to George Strait (American singer), “daddies don’t just love their children every now and then, it’s a love without an end”.

A father’s love for his children is never ending and a good father is always there. He is there to help shape his children’s childhood and guide them through life. A good father is there to catch his infant with open arms when he or she takes the first steps of life and stumbles. He is there to educate them at the youngest age, even though they might not comprehend half of the word he is saying.

He is there to drop the child off on the first day of school and prepare him or her for high school. A good father is there to guide the child through teenage and everything that comes with it. He is there to watch as the child graduates from college and become a working-class man or woman.

I can keep talking about the role of a father in a child’s life without coming to an end because that’s just how awesome and great fathers are.

In conclusion, the importance of fathers cannot be overemphasized. So, happy father’s day.

And thank you for your time and attention!

3. Father’s Day Speech No. 3

Good day everyone, I’m here to talk about fathers, as a pillar of support in families and an embodiment of love and affection, amidst the strictness of most fathers.

A man once said and I quote “when I was younger, I didn’t understand why you were so strict with me. Now that I’m an adult, I realize that it was all to protect me and to make sure that I don’t commit the same mistakes that you did”.

Many people, most especially children, are more at ease when sharing their fears, dreams, and aspirations with their mothers than their fathers and this is because a father acts all strict and stern with children.

But deep within the tough exterior, there is love and care. Fathers are the pillars that keep a family standing, whose love and care we often fail to recognize. Behind the stern disciplinarian attitude, there is a soft heart that speaks volumes of warm love for his children.

Father’s day is a very special day and I think fathers deserve to be celebrated every day for their love and awesomeness. Fathers make endless sacrifices and we fail to recognize them most times.

If you want to see something living with a tough exterior but soft interior, just walk up to your father. I want to use this medium to say, I love you dad and happy father’s day.

Thanks everyone, for your time and attention!

4. Short Emotional Speech on Fathers Day No. 4

Hello everyone, my name is anonymous and I am here to talk about the person who gave me the greatest gift ever…the gift of life. Fathers play a special role in our lives, but we fail to realize it until we grow older.

According to Margaret Truman (American author), ” it’s only when you grow up and step back from him or leave him for your own home, it’s only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it”.

As we celebrate father’s day, I want to use this medium to express how blessed I am that I have a father like you. You have a unique place in my life that no one can ever replace and I want to thank you for all the time and commitment that you put into the family every single day.

You have helped me to identify my skills and talents and taught me how to develop them further. You were my first teacher, you helped me identify my weak areas and gave me tips on how to strengthen them.

You have always believed in me, more than I even believe in myself, thanks for your words of encouragement, you made me who I am today. Your love, care, and support are priceless to me.

Happy father’s day to all the amazing fathers all over the world.

5. Speech on Fathers No. 5

Hello everyone, the sole purpose of this speech is to express my appreciation for the love and care I have received from my father.

According to Clarence Buddington Kelland (American writer), “my father didn’t tell me how to live, he lived and let me watch him do it”.

I’m glad you are my father and there are a million reasons why I’m happy that you are my father.

First and foremost, you taught me a lot of things by leading by example rather than words. Through you, I learned the principles of honesty and the need to always stick to the truth, no matter the situation I find myself.

I’m glad that you are my father because you made my childhood memorable and I couldn’t have asked for something better. You nurtured me and watched me grow into a youthful age and you taught me the words of God and to always seek the will of God in everything I do. That’s the most valuable lesson you taught me.

You raised a high standard for me to follow and it has really helped me to be determined in the pursuit of my goals. You are my role model and everything I have learned from you is invaluable. Thanks for everything you have done for me, thanks for always being there when I need you the most.

Happy father’s day,

2 Minute Speech On My Role Model My Father In English

Good morning to everyone in this room. I would like to thank the principal, the teachers, and my dear friends for allowing me to speak to you today about my role model, my father. One of the most important figures in our family is the father. Every father is different and treasured.

I’ve learned to be courageous and independent from my father. Fathers encourage us to take more chances in life, which helps us solve challenges. Dads are more than simply financial providers today. While fathers assist with household duties and support moms, many mothers pursue their jobs. My mother’s employment has always been acknowledged by my father, who also lends a hand around the house.

Despite their gruff exterior, fathers are always there for their children. My father has always been a continual source of encouragement while also enforcing regulations to make me more accountable. Thank you.

It is an honor to assist you in this deeply personal endeavor.

When crafting a tribute speech for your father, it's important to keep in mind the components that can make your speech more meaningful and impactful. In honoring your father, you'll want to provide a well-rounded view of him as an individual, highlighting his personality, values, and the impact he had on your life. Let's delve deeper into the key components.

Firstly, a tribute speech should contain personal anecdotes and stories that encapsulate your father's character. These should be stories that shine a light on who he was as a person, bringing his memory to life for all who listen. It could be a tale of his kindness, like the time he helped a neighbor in need without expecting anything in return. Or it could be a story that showcases his humor, his intelligence, or his tenacity. Choose stories that reveal his character and illuminate the traits that you most admired about him. These tales are the threads that will weave the tapestry of his life, granting your audience a glimpse into your father's heart.

Secondly, discuss your father's impact on your life and personal development. As a daughter, your father has undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping the person you've become. He has been there in moments of joy and sorrow, triumph and defeat, teaching you lessons only a father can. Talk about the influence he had on your life. Did he inspire your career choice? Did he instill in you a love for nature or arts? Did his resilience in the face of adversity fortify your own? Sharing these insights underscores the profound bond between a father and daughter and highlights the lasting legacy he has left in you.

Thirdly, share your father's values, achievements, and passions. This component allows you to celebrate your father's life, giving weight to his accomplishments and bringing his passions to the forefront. Was he a devoted community volunteer? A passionate musician? An accomplished professional? A doting family man? By discussing his achievements and passions, you showcase the different facets of his life and the values he held dear. It's a celebration of his individuality and a testament to the life he lived.

Finally, while a tribute speech is inherently celebratory, it's also essential to acknowledge the grief and loss you feel. This is not to cast a shadow over the proceedings but to express authenticity and sincerity. It's okay to share your feelings of sadness, loss, and even confusion. These sentiments are a testament to the love you had for your father and are shared by those listening to you. It's in the sharing of this grief that we find comfort and a sense of collective healing.

In essence, a tribute speech for your father is a delicate balance of joyous celebration and heartfelt remembrance. It's about remembering your father with love and respect, honoring his life, and expressing the pain that comes with his loss. It's about sharing a part of your heart, a part of your father, and a part of the story that you wrote together. Crafting this tribute may be difficult, but it's also a beautiful way to honor your father's memory and share his enduring legacy with those who knew and loved him.

Crafting a tribute speech for your father can seem like a daunting task. After all, how can you encapsulate the essence of a person, especially someone as significant as a father, in just a few minutes of speech? It might seem overwhelming, but with a little guidance and structure, you can create a beautiful, touching tribute to honor your father's memory. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

The first step is gathering your thoughts. This process can be emotional as it involves delving deep into your memories and reminiscing about your times together. Allocate a quiet, private time for this process where you can freely reflect and remember without interruption. You might want to look at photos, read old letters, or visit places that hold particular significance. During this stage, you might feel a wide range of emotions, which is entirely normal. Embrace this as part of the journey of crafting your tribute.

Once you've gathered your thoughts, the next step is to structure your speech. It usually consists of an introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction should set the tone and provide a brief insight into who your father was as a person. The body is where you delve into stories, share his impact, discuss his values, and highlight his passions. Finally, the conclusion brings closure to your speech. It's a place for your final reflections and sentiments about your father.

A tribute speech, especially for someone as close as your father, will be laden with emotion. However, it's crucial to balance these emotions with the celebration of your father's life. While it's important to acknowledge the grief and loss, focusing too much on it can make the tribute overwhelmingly sad. Instead, aim for a balance. Celebrate his life, his accomplishments, and his influence. Share joyous stories, laugh at his quirks, admire his achievements, and remember him with love and warmth.

After writing your speech, take some time to review it. Ensure it truly reflects your father and the bond you shared. It should feel authentic and heartfelt. Make sure you've included everything you want to say, and don't be afraid to make edits. This is your tribute, and it should resonate with your feelings and memories.

Finally, practice delivering your speech. This step can help you become familiar with the flow of your words, allowing you to deliver the tribute more smoothly on the day. Practicing also gives you an idea of how long your speech is and allows you to make adjustments as needed. Remember, it's okay to be emotional when delivering your speech. Your audience understands and shares your grief.

Writing a tribute speech for your father is a journey of love, grief, and celebration. It's about encapsulating the essence of a man who played a pivotal role in your life. It's a challenging task, but with these steps, you can craft a speech that truly honors your father and resonates with all who knew him.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I stand before you today with a heavy heart, yet I am strengthened by the memories, the teachings, and the love my father left behind. I want to share with you some aspects of his life that made him the extraordinary man that he was and the incredible father that I will always remember him as.

My father was a man of simple tastes, but he had a complex, profound impact on those around him. He was a lover of books, music, and gardening. But more than anything else, he loved his family fiercely and without reserve. As his daughter, I was lucky to be at the receiving end of this profound love.

I recall my father's twinkling eyes, always full of mischief, and his laughter that could light up the gloomiest of rooms. His stories were filled with wisdom, humor, and a sense of adventure that left me yearning for more. He taught me that life was an incredible journey, not a destination. He showed me the beauty in simplicity and the joy in the ordinary.

One of my fondest memories of my father was when he taught me to ride a bicycle. I remember being terrified, my tiny hands gripping the handlebars tightly as he held the seat steady, running alongside me. Even when I wobbled, fell, and wanted to give up, he would just smile, dust me off, and say, "Darling, falling is part of learning. We fall, we rise, we try again. That's how we grow." His encouragement then, as always, bolstered me, and soon I was pedaling down the street, my fear replaced with exhilaration. That was just one of the countless life lessons he taught me.

My father was a man of strong values and immense passion. He lived his life on his terms, guided by principles of honesty, kindness, and integrity. He believed in hard work and perseverance, but he also knew the value of enjoying the little things in life. His hearty laughter was a testament to his infectious love for life.

Today, as I stand here, the depth of my loss is immeasurable. But so is the gratitude. I am grateful for the times we shared, for the wisdom he imparted, and for the love he gave us. I am grateful for his patience, his guidance, and his unwavering faith in me. Even though I miss him terribly, I know he would want us to remember him with joy and not sorrow.

Losing my father has left an immense void in my heart, but his teachings and memories fill that space. In his death, as in his life, he continues to be my pillar of strength. Today, we not only mourn my father's departure but also celebrate his life, his achievements, and the legacy he leaves behind.

So here's to my father, a remarkable man, a guiding light, a pillar of strength, and the best dad a daughter could ever hope for. As we say goodbye, I promise to keep your memory alive, to live by the values you taught me, and to make you proud. I love you, Dad, and I miss you more than words can express.

Thank you all for being here today to remember my father, to celebrate his life, and to share our grief. It means more than I can express.

As I conclude this tribute, let's remember my father for the exceptional man he was and take comfort in knowing that his spirit, his teachings, and his love will continue to live on in each one of us.

In conclusion, crafting a tribute speech for your father is not just about paying homage to his life, but it's also a healing step in your journey through grief. It's about sharing memories, lessons, and the love you've felt, with those who join you in mourning. It allows you to paint a picture of the man who helped shape you into the person you are today, and it provides a chance for others to see the unique bond that existed between father and daughter.

Writing such a tribute can be an emotional undertaking. There will be tears, laughter, and countless memories to revisit. But remember that this is also an opportunity to celebrate his life, and express your love and gratitude for the role he played in your life. It's a chance to let the world know about the man behind the title of 'Dad', his values, his passions, and his unwavering love for his family.

No matter how your speech unfolds, remember to speak from the heart. Your words, your memories, and your feelings will honor your father and resonate with others who are there to support you during this difficult time. Let your speech be a love-filled tribute to your father that reverberates with his presence, making him unforgettable.

The Changing Faces of Fatherhood in the 21st Century

Today’s fathers are so diverse—and the roles they play never more important..

  • Changing social attitudes about men and women are reshaping the roles fathers play in their families, too.

This year, Father’s Day fell on my father’s birthday. My thoughts turn to him and how recent trends have reshaped attitudes toward fathers and fathering.

The original Latin word for father is pater , and paterfamilias describes the male head of a household. Traditionally, the patriarch, or paterfamilias, was the sole wage earner, the family provider and protector, and the moral and religious educator of offspring. In our collective imaginations, he is the Great Father archetype, a wisdom figure, a protector who restores justice and brings order to chaos by embodying righteous authority and power. In the Vedic Hindu tradition, he is the sky father; he is the Greek god Zeus and the Roman god Jupiter. He is the stern God of the Old Testament and the Heavenly Father of the New Testament.

In our dreams , the good father archetype (see my previous blog, “ Fathers: Heroes, Villains, and Our Need for Archetypes ”) may appear as a kindly old beggar, a roaring male lion, or a familiar male figure we admire. Cultural heroes like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, the Lakota leader Sitting Bull, or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. offer a projected version of the good father archetype, as can presidents, tribal chiefs, cult leaders, movie stars, and heroes in literature. Fictional fathers, like Atticus Finch from the novel and movie To Kill a Mockingbird, depict idealized versions of wise, morally upright fathers. These figures may bear little resemblance to our flawed flesh-and-blood dads, but they fill a psychic need, as do some leaders, to believe someone stronger and wiser is looking out for us. Fathers of minorities or other marginalized groups are only now regularly being represented in popular culture.

My personal story illustrates an outdated patriarchal model of fathering. I grew up in a white, middle-class family in a quiet, mid-20th-century suburban New Jersey neighborhood. My father worked at a 9-to-5 government job. My mother worked as a private secretary before she married. A second salary would have improved our family’s resources, but my father forbade my mother from forsaking child-rearing for a job.

Father was king. He issued the commandments; Mother enforced them. She ruled the household: hygiene, schoolwork, and manners. He controlled the finances and made the rules. One of his favorite injunctions was: “You don’t have to love me, but you do have to respect me.” (I write more extensively about my complex relationship with my father in “ My Jewish Question, My Father .”)

Everyone I knew was raised to respect their elders. Part of the traditional value system included filial piety and civic manners. While this model of family dynamics still exists, it is no longer the norm. In recent decades, significant research has been conducted into the roles fathers play in child development . The changes in societal attitudes toward marriage , women’s financial independence, single parenting , and masculinity indicate we are in a new era of envisioning fatherhood. 1

Fathers go by many names—dad, daddy, papa, papi, pops. Whatever we call him, across diverse backgrounds, children with involved fathers experience better mental health. Children raised with active fathers have fewer behavior problems, longer attention spans, enjoy greater sociability, and are less likely to commit juvenile crimes. 2

Today’s fathers can be gay, straight, or trans; married to our mothers or not; stay-at-home or non-residential; a donor dad, a stepdad, or an incarcerated dad. Since the late 20th century, the role of women in the workforce has transformed the role of fathers. Between 1948 and 2001, the percentage of working-age women employed or looking for work nearly doubled—from less than 33 percent to more than 60 percent. 3

According to research funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, one in three children live in a single-parent household. Within single-parent families, most children—14.3 million—live in mother-only homes. About 3.5 million children live in father-only homes. 4 Between 2 million and 3.7 million children under age 18 have an LGBTQ+ parent. Many of these children are being raised by a single LGBTQ+ parent or by a different- sex couple where one parent is bisexual . Approximately 191,000 children are being raised by two same-sex parents. Overall, it is estimated that 29 percent of LGBTQ+ adults are raising a child who is under 18. 5

Psychological studies suggest that father love has as great an influence on a child’s mental health as mother love. A father’s presence in a child’s life, his positive attention and guidance, can help a child develop a sense of their place in the world, which influences their social, emotional, and cognitive functioning. 6

Some fascinating data from the Pew Research Center on the modern American family and on gender and parenting tells us that men are more likely than women to give children more freedom. More men than women want to raise children the way they were raised. Women are more likely to: say they are overprotective of children; consider raising their children as the most important aspect of who they are as a person; and are more likely to worry about their children being bullied or struggling with depression or anxiety . Only a quarter or less of parents feel it is very important for their children to marry (25 percent for men, 18 percent for women). Similar numbers feel it is important for their children to become parents. 7

A study conducted by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) found that fathers tended to be more involved in caregiving when they had positive psychological characteristics like high self-esteem and lower levels of depression and hostility. Fathers were also more involved when their children were boys. 8

Data supplies facts and statistics track trends, but our experience concerning fatherhood and our relationship with our fathers is not a statistic. It is a unique bonding phenomenon and a crucial theme in the story of our lives. Literature reveals what statistics can’t—the complex feelings, desires, and struggles inherent in this intimate relationship.

One writer who has expanded our empathic understanding of a father’s relationship with his child is Ta-Nehisi Coates. His book, Between the World and Me, is devastatingly beautiful and written in the form of a letter addressed to his son that tries to consolidate the many fears he holds for his Black child:

“You would be a man one day, and I could not save you from the unbridgeable distance between you and your future peers and colleagues, who might try to convince you that everything I know, all the things I’m sharing with you here, are an illusion, or a fact of a distant past that need not be discussed. And I could not save you from the police, from their flashlights, their hands, their nightsticks, their guns. Prince Jones, murdered by the men who should have been his security guards, is always with me, and I knew that soon he would be with you.” 9

Speech on Importance Of Parents In Our Life

Parents play a crucial role in our lives. They are our first teachers and lifelong guides, providing love, support, and guidance.

Their influence shapes our character and values. They help us grow into responsible adults, ready to face the world. Their importance in our life is immeasurable.

1-minute Speech on Importance Of Parents In Our Life

Dear friends,

Think about the sacrifices they make. Remember when you were sick and your mom stayed awake all night? Or when your dad worked extra hours to buy you that toy you wanted? They do all this and more just to see us happy.

Parents also guide us, like a lighthouse guides a lost ship. They show us the right path, teach us to differentiate between good and bad. They are our first teachers and the best ones too. They help us understand the world around us.

Lastly, parents shape us into the person we become. They instill values and morals in us. They teach us to be kind, honest, and respectful.

To conclude, let’s all take a moment to thank our parents for everything they do. Let’s promise to make them proud by being the best version of ourselves. Because without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today. They are our roots, our lighthouse, our cheerleaders, and our molders. So, here’s to our parents, the most important people in our lives.

2-minute Speech on Importance Of Parents In Our Life

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, today we are here to talk about something very special, something very close to our hearts – our parents. Parents, as we all know, are the first people we meet when we come into this world. They are our first teachers, our first friends, our first heroes. We will talk about their importance in our lives.

The first thing we need to understand is that parents give us life. Without them, we would not be here. They bring us into this world, take care of us when we are small and weak. They feed us, dress us, teach us to walk and talk. They are there for us when we need them the most. This is the first and most basic reason why parents are important in our lives.

Parents also teach us many things. They teach us how to behave, how to respect others, how to be kind and caring. They teach us about hard work, about honesty, about love and friendship. They teach us about the world around us, about its beauty and its challenges. They prepare us for life, give us the tools we need to succeed and be happy. This is the second reason why parents are important in our lives.

But maybe the most important role of parents is their love for us. They love us more than anything else in the world. Their love is strong, unselfish, unconditional. They love us when we are happy, they love us when we are sad. They love us when we succeed, they love us when we fail. They never stop loving us, never stop caring for us. This love gives us strength, gives us confidence, gives us hope. This love is what makes parents so important in our lives.

Finally, parents are our role models. They show us by their example how to live, how to face problems, how to enjoy life. They inspire us, motivate us, guide us. We look up to them, we learn from them, we want to be like them. They shape our character, our values, our beliefs. They help us become the best we can be. This is why parents are so important in our lives.

Dad Brain Is Real, and It’s a Good Thing

A man with his back to the camera holds a baby.

By Darby Saxbe

Dr. Saxbe, a professor of psychology at the University of Southern California, is writing a book about how fatherhood changes the brain.

A father of three recently told me that if he could go back in time and give himself one piece of advice, it would be to have kids sooner. Fatherhood changed him; it gave his life purpose, he said. It turns out neuroscience agrees with him.

My research lab investigates how the brain changes when men become fathers, and we are discovering that fatherhood can be transformative for their brains and bodies. The brain and hormonal changes we observe in new dads tell us that nature intended men to participate in child rearing, because it equipped them with neurobiological architecture to do so. They, too, can show the fundamental instinct for nurturing that’s often attributed solely to mothers.

Not only that, but men’s involvement in fatherhood can have long-term benefits for their brain health — and for healthy societies. At a time when boys and men seem to be experiencing greater social isolation and declining occupational prospects, the role of father can provide a meaningful source of identity. But the transition to fatherhood can also be a time of vulnerability, which is why supporting fathers should be a priority for policymakers.

In a 2022 study , my colleagues and I collaborated with researchers in Spain to gather brain scans of a small number of first-time fathers before and after their children were born. Our results echoed studies of mothers done by some of the same researchers. In several landmark studies , they found that as women became mothers, their brains lost volume in gray matter, the layer of brain tissue rich with neurons, in regions across the brain, including those responsible for social and emotional processing.

Although a shrinking brain sounds like bad news, less can be more: These changes may fine-tune the brain to work more efficiently. The teenage brain also trims its gray matter as it develops. Women who lost more brain volume showed stronger attachment to their infants after birth, indicating that the shrinkage promoted bonding.

Our findings for fathers were similar. Men also lost gray matter volume in new fatherhood, in some of the same regions that changed in women. But volume reductions for dads were less pronounced. The findings for mothers had been so striking that a machine-learning algorithm could tell mothers and nonmothers apart by their brain scans alone. The picture was noisier for fathers. My hunch is that men’s brain changes looked less clear-cut because fathers vary so much in their levels of engagement in parenting.
