While the thought of condensing your thoughts into a mere 300 words may seem daunting, fear not. With a well-defined plan and some clever strategies, you will be able to make every word count and leave a lasting impression on your readers. In this guide, we will explore a variety of techniques that will help streamline your writing process and ensure that your essay is both concise and compelling.
One of the most important aspects of writing a 300-word essay is selecting a strong topic. Your topic should be specific enough to allow for depth and analysis within the limited word count, but broad enough to captivate your audience. The key is to choose a topic that genuinely interests you, as this will make the writing process more enjoyable and ultimately result in a stronger essay.
Understand the Prompt
When embarking on the journey of writing a 300-word essay, it is crucial to fully grasp the prompt given to you. In order to effectively address the topic at hand, it is essential to understand its requirements and objectives.
The prompt serves as a guide that directs your thoughts and ideas, shaping the entire essay. It outlines the main theme or question that needs to be explored, allowing you to focus your efforts and convey a clear message to your readers. Therefore, taking the time to carefully analyze and comprehend the prompt is of utmost importance.
To comprehend the prompt, one must carefully read and identify key terms or phrases. These terms provide clues as to what the essay should encompass, such as analyzing, contrasting, or evaluating a specific concept or topic.
Furthermore, it is crucial to consider the context in which the prompt is presented. Is it asking for your personal opinion, an analysis of a given text, or an exploration of a specific event or idea? By understanding the context, you can tailor your writing style accordingly and ensure that your essay remains relevant to the prompt.
Another important aspect of understanding the prompt is identifying any limitations or guidelines provided. This may include word count restrictions, specific formatting requirements, or even the inclusion of certain sources or references. By taking note of these instructions, you can ensure that your essay meets all the necessary criteria set forth by the prompt.
Finally, once you have a clear understanding of the prompt, it is recommended to brainstorm and create an outline of your essay. This will allow you to organize your thoughts and ensure a logical flow of ideas within your 300-word limit.
In conclusion, understanding the prompt is the foundational step towards writing a successful 300-word essay. By comprehending the requirements, identifying key terms, considering the context, and noting any limitations, you can effectively shape your essay and communicate your ideas in a concise and coherent manner.
Plan Your Essay
Before you start writing your 300-word essay, it’s crucial to create a solid plan. Planning your essay helps you organize your thoughts and ensures that you cover all the necessary points in a coherent and structured manner.
1. Define your topic:
First and foremost, clearly define the topic or question that your essay will address. This will give you a clear focus and prevent your essay from becoming too broad or unfocused.
2. Conduct research:
Once you have a clear topic, conduct thorough research to gather relevant information and supporting evidence. This will enable you to present a well-informed and well-rounded argument in your essay.
3. Create an outline:
An outline serves as a roadmap for your essay, helping you structure your thoughts and ensure a logical flow of information. Divide your essay into sections and subheadings, and outline the main points you will cover in each.
4. Develop a thesis statement:
Your thesis statement should clearly state the main argument or point you will be making in your essay. It should be concise, specific, and thought-provoking, acting as a guide for the rest of your writing.
5. Organize your ideas:
Once you have a clear thesis statement and outline, organize your ideas in a logical order. Start with a strong introduction, followed by body paragraphs that support your thesis, and end with a conclusion that summarizes your main points.
6. Consider word count:
Since you are writing a 300-word essay, it’s important to be mindful of your word count. Ensure that each paragraph and sentence contributes to the overall argument and removes any unnecessary information or repetition.
7. Revise and edit:
Finally, before submitting your essay, take the time to revise and edit your work. Check for grammar and spelling errors, ensure that your ideas are clear and concise, and make any necessary changes to improve the overall flow and coherence of your essay.
By following these planning tips and taking the time to organize your thoughts, you will be well-equipped to write a strong and concise 300-word essay that effectively communicates your ideas. Remember, a well-structured and coherent essay is more likely to leave a lasting impression on your readers.
Focus on the Main Idea
When writing a 300-word essay, it is crucial to focus on the main idea. This means that you need to clearly identify the central theme or argument that you want to convey to your readers. By honing in on the main idea, you can ensure that your essay remains focused and coherent.
One way to identify the main idea is by brainstorming and organizing your thoughts before you begin writing. Consider what you want to say and the key points that support your argument. This will help you create a clear outline for your essay, allowing you to stay on track and avoid straying off topic.
Once you have identified the main idea, it is important to make sure that all the information you include in your essay directly supports and reinforces this central theme. Each paragraph should have a clear connection to the main idea, and any irrelevant or unnecessary information should be eliminated. This will keep your essay concise and focused.
In order to effectively convey the main idea, it is also important to use language and vocabulary that is precise and specific. This will help you articulate your thoughts clearly and avoid any ambiguity or confusion. Additionally, using examples and evidence to support your main idea can strengthen your argument and make it more convincing to your readers.
By focusing on the main idea, you can ensure that your 300-word essay is concise, coherent, and effective. Remember to identify the central theme, organize your thoughts, and use precise language to convey your argument. With these strategies, you will be able to write a compelling essay that keeps your readers engaged from beginning to end.
Keep Sentences Short and Simple
In order to effectively convey your ideas in a 300-word essay, it is crucial to keep your sentences short and simple. By utilizing concise sentence structures and avoiding unnecessary complexity, you can ensure that your message is clear and easily understood by the reader.
Long and convoluted sentences can easily confuse the reader and make it difficult for them to follow your line of thought. Instead, opt for shorter sentences that express a single idea or concept. This will not only enhance the readability of your essay but also make it more engaging for the reader.
Simplicity is key when it comes to writing a concise essay. Avoid using overly technical language or jargon that may alienate your audience. Instead, strive for clarity and precision in your choice of words. Use clear and straightforward language that is accessible to a wide range of readers.
Additionally, it is important to avoid unnecessary repetition or redundancy in your sentences. Each sentence should contribute new information or expand upon the previous point. Aim to eliminate any unnecessary words or phrases that do not add value to your essay.
To ensure that your sentences remain short and simple, it can be helpful to read your essay aloud. This will allow you to identify any lengthy or complex sentences that may need to be revised. Additionally, seeking feedback from others can provide valuable insight into the clarity and coherence of your writing.
In conclusion, keeping sentences short and simple is essential in writing a successful 300-word essay. By using concise sentence structures, avoiding unnecessary complexity, and utilizing clear and straightforward language, you can effectively convey your ideas to the reader. Remember to eliminate any redundancy or repetition in your sentences and seek feedback to ensure the clarity of your writing.
Use Transitional Words and Phrases
One of the key elements in writing a 300-word essay is the use of transitional words and phrases. These linguistic tools play a crucial role in connecting ideas and making the essay flow smoothly.
Transitional words and phrases act as bridges between different paragraphs, sentences, and thoughts, allowing the reader to follow the writer’s logic easily. They provide a sense of coherence and help to create a well-structured and organized essay.
When used effectively, transitional words and phrases can enhance the clarity and readability of your essay. They can help you express your thoughts more precisely, establish relationships between different ideas, and guide the reader through your arguments and supporting evidence.
Examples of transitional words and phrases include “however,” “therefore,” “nevertheless,” “furthermore,” “in addition,” “similarly,” “on the other hand,” and “consequently.” These words and phrases signal shifts in thought or provide connections between different concepts and arguments.
To maximize the impact of transitional words and phrases in your essay, consider the specific context in which they are used. Choose words and phrases that accurately convey the intended meaning and create a seamless flow between sentences and paragraphs.
However, it is important to use transitional words and phrases judiciously. Overusing them can make your essay sound repetitive or formulaic. Instead, focus on using them strategically to strengthen your arguments and improve the overall coherence of your writing.
In conclusion, incorporating transitional words and phrases into your 300-word essay is an essential aspect of effective writing. By using these linguistic tools correctly, you can create a well-structured essay that guides the reader through your ideas and arguments with clarity and coherence.
Revise and Edit
Improving your essay is an essential step towards achieving a polished and cohesive final piece of writing. After finishing your initial draft, it is crucial to dedicate time to revise and edit your work. This process allows you to identify and correct any errors or inconsistencies, enhance the clarity and coherence of your ideas, and ensure that your essay meets the desired word count. Here are some strategies to help you effectively revise and edit your 300-word essay:
1. Review for Clarity and Flow:
Read through your essay carefully to ensure that your arguments and ideas are presented clearly and logically. Look for any unclear sentences or ideas that may confuse the reader. Consider whether your paragraphs flow smoothly from one to another and if necessary, make revisions to improve the overall organization and coherence of your essay.
2. Check for Grammar and Spelling:
Proofread your essay to eliminate any grammar or spelling errors. Use spell-check tools, but also be mindful of common mistakes that may not be detected by these utilities. Pay attention to subject-verb agreement, verb tense consistency, punctuation, and capitalization. Correct any errors to ensure that your essay reads professionally.
3. Trim Excess Words:
Review your essay to identify any unnecessary or redundant words or phrases. Look for opportunities to replace wordy expressions with more concise alternatives. By eliminating unnecessary words, you can improve the overall clarity and conciseness of your essay.
4. Seek Feedback:
Share your essay with others and ask for their honest feedback. They can provide valuable insights and suggestions for improvement. Consider their perspectives and critique to refine your essay further. Incorporate their suggestions into your revision process to enhance the overall quality of your writing.
5. Proofread Again:
After implementing revisions based on feedback, take the time to proofread your essay once more. This final step ensures that you have addressed all the required changes and that your essay is error-free and ready to be submitted.
By revising and editing your 300-word essay, you can refine your writing, eliminate errors, and enhance the overall quality of your work. Dedicate sufficient time to this process to ensure that your final essay is well-crafted and impactful.
Proofread Your Essay
Once you have finished writing your 300-word essay, it is essential to carefully review and proofread your work. This final step ensures that your essay is free from errors, inconsistencies, and typos that can negatively impact its overall quality and clarity.
Proofreading allows you to identify and correct any grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, or punctuation issues that may have slipped through during the writing process. It also gives you an opportunity to refine your writing style, ensuring that your ideas are communicated effectively and concisely.
When proofreading your essay, it is helpful to take a break after finishing the initial draft. This break will allow you to approach your work with a fresh perspective and a critical eye. During the proofreading process, carefully read each sentence and consider whether there are any improvements you can make to enhance the overall coherence and flow of your essay.
In addition to checking for errors and improving the clarity of your writing, proofreading also gives you a chance to evaluate the overall structure and organization of your essay. Ensure that your ideas are presented in a logical and coherent manner, with each paragraph supporting a central theme or argument.
It can also be beneficial to read your essay aloud during the proofreading process. This technique can help you identify any awkward or confusing sentences that may need revision. Additionally, listening to your essay being read aloud can help you gauge the overall tone and voice of your writing, ensuring that it aligns with the intended message or purpose of your essay.
In conclusion, proofreading your 300-word essay is a crucial step in the writing process. It allows you to identify and correct errors, improve clarity and coherence, and refine your overall writing style. By taking the time to carefully review your essay, you can enhance its quality and ensure that your ideas are effectively conveyed to your readers.

Success is much more than riches, power or fame. Success is simply the feeling of satisfaction and happiness one gets from leading a particular way of life or carrying out a particular activity. Success in any field or aspect of life can only be achieved through serious hard work and a little bit of opportunity. One of the most important recipes of success is determination and it might as well be the most important secret of success. To become successful, it is necessary to never give up until the aim of happiness and satisfaction in life is fully met. The happiness and satisfaction can be found in very different things in different people.
âSuccessâ is a very powerful word. Many of us run behind it; most of us want to conquer it. So, what is success all about? Does this mean acquiring money or fame? Success means different things to different people.
Definition of Success
The Oxford dictionary defines success as â The accomplishment of an aim or purpose â.
This is the definition of success in theory, but in reality it differs according to peopleâs interests and goals.
It is very important for every individual to define their own concept of success rather than following someone elseâs footsteps. We must analyze what makes us happy, what gives us contentment, and what motivates us . No one can list out our needs better than us.
True success means understanding our dreams and working joyfully to make those dreams come true.
How to Achieve Success
Many great people have suggested various ways to achieve success. But the real secret ingredient to nail success is to believe that we are already successful . With this strong affirmative thought, success can be easily achieved if we follow these three success factors:-
- We should follow our passion because that is where our heart and soul is. When we follow our passion there is no need for us to put any extra effort.
- The path to success is always challenging. We should build confidence to face any challenging situations.
- The third and most important success factor is discipline . When we work in a disciplined manner, things will automatically fall in place.
If we stick to these three factors, nothing can stop us from tasting success. Success is a journey which continues even after the goal is achieved.
Success is perhaps the most desired feeling that all of us want to experience in the pursuit of our goals and also in day to day life. Apparently, every individual has his or her own definition of success.
Parameters of Success
None can deny that the world blindly respects and trusts wealthy people. Money is the prime dynamic force that drives this world. The sooner we acknowledge and appreciate this fact the better. Academic success is a prime concern for all in the initial part of life, especially in the school days. For those who continue perusing studies, academic success is the epitome of everything. It is mostly observed that success in personal life becomes a tough task for those who have all the riches. Here is where the common people feel successful to have a happy personal life.
Qualities for Achieving Success
One should not regret their decisions taken in the past and must refrain dwelling in the past. We must give deep thought before taking any decisions and uttering words from the mouth. For making a successful decision one must ask questions to oneself like: What Do I Need To Do? What Will Be The Outcome? Will It Be Worth Doing? One must keep the emotions for success and failures intact and should not showcase it to others. Successful people never wait for applause or acknowledgement of their work as they eventually get it. To become successful one must keep friends close and enemies closer. A successful person never demeans the weak and never underestimates anyone.
To become successful one has to understand what is important in that instant, recognize and work on the weaknesses, take criticism and hold on to the strengths. From a broader perspective Success defines the contentment, peace of mind and sheer happiness that is achieved. One should remember that only perseverance can lead the path to success.
Introduction
Real success is something we should all strive to attain. Real success can simply be said to be achieving a higher position or very high position in our chosen field or area; it can be politics or business or even education. In the world we live in today, we have equated success to riches, prosperity, fortunes, cars, houses and so many mundane things. We believe that once a person has enough money to be able to afford what he or she wants, the person is successful. This is a total and complete misconception that will be discussed here.
Money isnât a measure of success?
While it is important to note that having money is a part of being successful and you can classify as rich person as being successful, money is not all that success is about and we have a lot of people around us that are seemingly rich but still count themselves as not successful. In fact, sometimes we see wealthy people and conclude that they arenât successful. If this is true then we can safely conclude that success is deeper that money or other superficial and physical things can we might acquire or own. Money is very important to success in life but it is not a necessity and neither is it the only key to success in life.
What is real success?
Real success is way beyond the physical things we can see, real success is all about the feeling of satisfaction we get when we accomplish a task or do something, it is the happiness we get just by remembering what we have achieved and how we did it, real success has to do with a lot of positive feelings about ourselves and pride in what we have been able to do. As we can see, real success can only be achieved within oneâs self and that is why a lot of people who we think are successful still believe they arenât just because they arenât happy with what they are doing or they feel they can get so much more out of life. From this, we can see that it is very important to attain true success in life.
How one can attain real success
For one to be successful, the first and most important thing one needs to do is to set goals and objectives. Only through the setting of goals can one really have something to pursue and claim success when we got those things or meet the set goals and target. A very important ingredient in achieving real success is determination. If one is going to get real success, one has to be determined to never give up no matter what the situation might be. Another very important ingredient is hard work as we canât expect to be successful if we donât work hard and do all it takes to meet all of our set goals. It is important that we get all the skills that are required for us to be successful in our chosen field.
The yardstick of success varies from people to people. The success story of an individual begins from the moment of his/her birth. A human child begins the winning streak by challenging every obstacle from the moment of conception to delivery. So no human is ever a failure, and hence confidently we can say that the very existence of every human in this word bear an element of success.
At the primary level, success lies within the parameters of cracking competitive exams and identifying oneâs aptitude as to which profession the individual can flourish. On broader terms, a successful life is indeed a happy life reflecting upon how far one has reached. Success is not just related to material success.
How to become successful in life?
Nobody has ever become successful within a split of a moment. It is not an arduous task either. Strong determination coupled with hard work is the key to success. The first step to any attempt is to set the goal. There can be short-term goals, and long-term goals and both play a significant role on your road to success. Once the target set, then you have to do strategic planning. It is advisable to set a time frame as well. It will enable you to evaluate yourself on a regular basis. Fixing a time frame can also check into our procrastinating nature.
The next most important factor to become successful in life is hard work. It is the key to success. The adage rightly says that âno pain, no gain.’ You need to keep in mind that nobody else is going to do what we ought to do. If we put little effort and saw the seeds of hard work and perseverance, then we are sure to reap success and bounty. If you have strong willpower and the fire to ignite your dreams, then nothing can pull you back.
Stay focused on your objectives rather than hoping:
You can inspire yourself by being a self-motivator and critic. It opens room for self-improvement and appreciation. As it is said that âwell begun is half done,â do not hesitate to sparkle a start. Once we get a push, the rest will fall right in place. Even if we stumble down a couple of times, do not let go of our dreams. Failures are part and parcel of any successful entity. Mistakes are quite common and what needs to do is that we acknowledge them, and bear them in our mind. It ensures that we learn from the mistakes and in turn do not repeat them.
Nobody has ever been successful overnight. Patience is yet another golden rule. Just convince your mind that you are strong enough to be successful, though not today, at least some day. Never be disappointed if you lose. Trust in yourself and believe that you will reach there and you deserve to reach there. Your strength and weakness define the person you are, and the realization of it is rather important. Selfless dedication and hard work will definitely get you there.
Once you achieve your goals, you can be a strong inspiration to others. There is a warrior in you and never shut it down. You are capable of climbing higher and boom into a fantastic personality. Whatsoever, live a humble life, spread positivity and bear the torch to othersâ road to success.
Saying education is the road to success is just another way of saying education is very important for all of us in life, without education there would not be a lot of progression in both our individual and collective lives as human. It is very important that we get education in order to get success in life. Most times, people generally limit education to the four walls of a classroom or a school.
Education has roots in every area of our existence; education can be said to begin from the home, parents and family members educate and train the children on good characters that they should imbibe and teach them to remove some habits and characters. All of these good characters imbibed by the child through education at home can help the child become very successful in future.
We all know that without good characters and morals, it is extremely hard to become successful or make it in life as people would not want to be associated with such person. We are also educated on good communication and interpersonal skills that are very necessary for us to make it and become successful in life.
Importance of education to success
We need to know the true value and worth of education. Education helps to facilitate our skill, knowledge and learning; it gives us a different view of the world and refines our personality, helping us to build very positive attitudes. Education is a totally essential tool in ensuring a bright future.
Education can serve as a tool in achieving anything and everything good about life. When we get a high level and degree of education, we earn respect and recognition from our family and the society at large.
Education can go a very long way in changing our thoughts and level of reasoning; it broadens our worldview and provides us with the opportunity to get knowledge and technical skills that are highly needed in life. We can improve our knowledge level and skill by watching educational documentaries and programmes on the TV, reading the news and keeping up to date with all of the happenings all over the world, reading a lot of books that can educate us. Education can go a long way to make us into more rational and civilised people. Education guarantees our place among people in the society and can help us achieve all of our dreams and aspirations in life.
Education and success
Success is the goal of all of us and it is our mission. Life can sometimes be full of different opportunities and challenges. Success can only be attained if we have all of the required and needed tools.
The most important tool for success is education because without education, we wouldnât be able to have a wide view of the world and be able to innovate and develop. A lot of youths and children today cite the examples of the successful people that didnât graduate from school and still went ahead to be successful in life. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook famously did not graduate from Harvard university but still went ahead to become very successful. The truth is even though Mark didnât graduate, he was well educated and wouldnât have been able to start Facebook if he had no knowledge of coding and wasnât enrolled in Harvard at all. From him, we can learn that education isnât limited and can basically be any way of widening our knowledge and improving ourselves. We should never confuse education with getting a diploma or a degree. Only education in or out of school can make us be successful in life and give us the true career we want.
Without education, life would be totally meaningless without education. The only path to true success in life is education, every one that has been, is and would be successful in life needs education to do that.
The modern world has a way of doing things, that is, modern man has his own particular view on how things should look. That view is completely different from the perspectives upheld by those who came before us, so to say. Like the ancient Greeks were obsessed with performing heroic deeds, or medieval European Christians with martyrdom and upholding saintly principles, we can argue that modern man has an obsession with success. Or more precisely, one aspect of that new worldview is to compare people between each other through the notion of success.
In a way, the beginning of the 21 st century is preoccupied with the concept of success more than ever before, both individual and collective. That fact can is seen in many aspects of our daily lives, people are not just oppressed with celebrities and successful people they want to live that lifestyle or achieve some sort of greatness. Looking at the current state of things one is encouraged to analyze the situation further and to find the reason behind these phenomena, or at least to offer a new perspective on worldwide trend.
What Makes a Person Successful?
There are many ways a person can be successful. Most people will think of celebrities, politicians, artists, entrepreneurs, etc. They will think of someone who is known the world over because of the thing they do, the thing they are good at. Thatâs all fine, but there are successful people who do not like to be celebrities and there are, most definitely, celebrities who cannot count as successful people.
What then makes a successful person? Is it how they do things? Is it what they get in return? Is it in the number of things they can amass in their life? Most of those things can count as some part of our overall image of such a person. But, how can we define it? What is it actually?
What I like is simple answers, they are usually correct and the most practical at the same time. Even though not all answers can be simple, this one is. When you look up the word success in any dictionary you will find that it is considered an accomplishment of an aim or a purpose.
Surely people were able to accomplish an aim or a pulpous in their lifetimes, even several, before the 21 st century. Why is it that this noun has such relevance for the classification of people in this age?
History of Success
If we take a look at history, as I mentioned before, we can see that every age has a different occupation. When we talk about the ancient Egyptians, we do not talk about single individuals who made this country so great we talk about the collective in general. But also, we do not know the names of the people who actually accomplished the construction of the pyramid we remember the person who ordered it and did nothing to build it.
Sometimes when I think about all the great artists whose names I do not know, that built humanity in the name of kings, it seems as if it was forbidden for individuals to be famous if they were not born into some sort of noble family.
That drastically changed with the return of democracy to Europe and the liberation from the old-world view that separated people into casts, genders, and races. The new perspective born from revolutions gave every man the right to control their destiny and therefore the right to become successful, to achieve oneâs dreams and ideals. Celebrating success can be seen as a collective celebration of the boundless human potential to do incredible things. Is it always so shiny? Or is there a dark side to the story?
Can Success Harm us?
We all know that being successful has its price and the people on the top can often be alone, because of the many sacrifices they had to make to get there. There are also countless examples of people who have achieved success professionally but their health and social lives fail because they cannot handle the strain that comes with maintaining that image of perfection that is expected of them.
Then there is also the psychological pressure any person can experience when they become obsessed with succeeding in the things they do. This emotion can cause such discomfort for people that they can freeze in key moments when they should be at the top of their game. Not to mention the depression some people experience when they come in contact with the images of people that exist on social media. There is a lot in being successful that we put under the carpet, or we just consider it as part of the game, something that we should bear. It does not have to be that way.
Sharing Success
People are made to be in a group and therefore everything they do they should do for each other; however, this fact of human existence has also been a breeding ground for nationalism and other group-oriented ideologies that made the 20 th century so dark. The striving to be successful, the best, the most dominant will make people perform incredible and inspiring things but it will also make them give legitimacy to the worst monstrosities. How do we draw the line between the good and bad aspect of wanting individual and collective success?
Maybe we should stop looking at success as part of domination and make it part of what makes us authentic as human beings. What do I mean? If we start celebrating everyday people when they express themselves or make something that is fulfilling for them and makes other people grow we will support others to develop this aspect of their humanity and not concentrate on domination and subordination. We should support the celebration of collective endeavors that strive to enhance the human race as a whole and not adore individual examples as if they were the meaning of life.
The secret to success is not in money and fame, but in reaching that feeling of fulfillment when you know you have accomplished something that truly matters to you and other people around you. Dreaming big and then having it, it’s not impossible.
If youâve been feeling a little low lately, this essay on success is sure to boost your motivation levels and set the goals right for you! We hear about so many successful people from all the areas. Some of them may be our favorite singers, actors, scientists, writers, social workers, politicians, and what not. Their achievements inspire the hearts of many and urge them to do better.
While we tend to focus on the sensation of the final outcome, the journey toward the goal is what matters the most. Sadly, human nature forces us to look at everything through the eyes of instant gratification. But the stories of success are not created overnight. In real life, any small big achievement demands tons of efforts and sacrifices.
If success is a building, consider each effort to be a brick, that has to be put in day and night tirelessly. Dreaming about achieving a goal in life is a lovely idea. Nonetheless, working on it every day is more than just a fantasy. You have to make it happen.
Do you pray or meditate? What happens at that moment? You sit quietly and focus all your attention and energy into the prayer or in watching those thoughts. Prayer commands sincerity. True worshipping is when the heart is pure and honest.
In the same way, success is a conscientious phenomenon. It asks for dedication and ethical diligence. For a real success, there are no shortcuts and there is no quitting too! Yes, we all get tired and hopeless. That doesnât mean we have to give in to those feelings and quit. Keep working no matter what!
At times, when you feel that you canât go on anymore, take a break. Rejuvenate yourself, talk to your loved ones, rest a lot, create a fresh perspective. And come back again with a greater force and zeal. You never know when the efforts will turn into the sweet fruits of success. One thing common in all the great personalities was that they never quit!
Personal Definition of Success
There is no fixed definition of success. You see, success is quite a relative term and its meaning changes from one person to another. However, it is sure to say that being able to feel content with your life and achieve what you dreamed of, is what makes you a successful person!
A prosperous life is not strictly about having all the materialistic comforts around. To some extent, this may be true. But, all in all, itâs only a microscopic way to measure someoneâs success.
Let us introduce you to some of the most powerful quotes on success given by the different eminent personalities.
Everybodyâs favorite, the great feminist and poetess, Maya Angelou says, âSuccess is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.â
Winston Churchill quotes it as, âSuccess is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.â
Not to mention, Americaâs former first lady, Michelle Obama who expresses her own views on success. According to her, âSuccess isn’t about how much money you make. It’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.â
In the words of Albert Einstein, âStrive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.â
Anne Sweeney, who remained the president of the Disney Channel from 1996 to 2014. In her words, âDefine success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life youâre proud to live.â
It is evident enough how these miraculous and charismatic visionaries have described success in various terms and that there is no particular way to define it. The only authentic parameter should be your own satisfaction and happiness.
What is Success
We have understood that success is an abstract notion. Now, it is time to get to the bottom and explore some basic questions about it. Have you ever tried to inquire into what success means to you? What are the things that would make you convinced that you are a successful person now? Does your heart yearn for fame, money, peace, joy, love, or something else?
These questions are crucial. They make your mind clear and set your priorities more effectively. Always remember that a virtue that appeals to you may not mean the same to another person. Everybody has their own preferences and goals in life.
The bottom line is regardless of what the goal is, we can each be successful in our lives as long as the achievement makes us happy and content. It could be your education, a well-paying job, having a loving family, social security, or freedom to live the way you want to.
Anything, no matter how small or big, that fills us with a sense of purpose and gratifies the heart leads to success. If you are a happy person and love your life, then success is yours! For a long time, our minds have been trained to believe that money is the greatest source of joy. However, itâs not true!
Undoubtedly, wealth is a strong means to create comfort and security for us. But if it was the only thing needed for success, why do the richest people still deal with depression, anxiety, fears, and failures? Have you ever thought about it?
Physical wealth does not guarantee an insusceptibility to dissatisfaction and failure. Thinking otherwise would only create a bottomless void within you. People madly run after money and career. And yet when they are well-established, they still may not feel the joy and peace within. What is the missing piece in their lives?
Success in Life
Life is a rollercoaster, isnât it! We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. Overcoming your flaws and frailty is a victory in itself. If you are thinking of coming out as a winner in life, donât confine yourself to monetary values. With money, you may feel âtechnicallyâ rich and yet have no access to the truest joy.
There are many dimensions to success. But everything depends upon our ability to recognize them. What are these dimensions, by the way! Let us explore a few of them.
You must have heard the famous quote, âHealth is Wealthâ. We need to understand the hidden value of this quote today more than ever. Ask yourself, if you would be able to enjoy anything in the same way if you were suffering from an acute or chronic illness? No, but such physical ailments are a bitter truth to many. To these people, achieving a partial or full recovery, having a long and respectful life is a success.
For the emotional souls, having their loved ones around, giving them a quality life, and taking care of them is what counts as the real victory. A person who cares about the whole society, for him/ her the true meaning of succeeding would be providing the basic amenities to the underprivileged, fighting for human rights, or creating awareness.
And yes, the biggest of the aims could be as simple and meaningful as leading a peaceful life. It could be about not having regrets and ill feelings toward others. They could also be as big as winning a gold medal in the Olympics, breaking the stereotypes, getting out of a toxic relationship and having a stable life.
The point is, success cannot be put into a singular category. And comparing oneâs goal with the other person would be like comparing apple to an orange, or fruits to vegetables. Each person is unique. Their journey of life is different and so are their goals and parameters of success.
Success for Students
The keys to successful academic life are open secrets. As a student, your progress depends on the level of self-discipline, dedication, and hard work. If you are able to pull off these habits in long-term success would never leave you. Right? Nonetheless, the matter is not so simple.
In todayâs time, students are looking for âsuccessâ more desperately than ever! Considering the cut-throat competitions, it is quite understandable also. The pressure of familyâs expectations makes things even more complicated. The students have no option except to excel in their studies, but at what costs?
First of all, academic success is dependent on a limited number of subjects. The true potential of a child or a young one cannot be fairly measured based on such a narrow line. Moreover, somehow we have come to believe that excellent grades are a must for a studentâs survival in this world. Fortunately, thatâs not completely correct.
The practical life is much more than a few subjects. Most of the things we learn at school and colleges are plain theories. The bookish knowledge hardly proves to be of any help in the real world. What makes you rich is the experiences you gain on a daily basis.
Of course, this doesnât mean that grades and books shouldnât be taken seriously at all. You need to understand that these things play a partial role in forming the ladder of success. The better word to focus on would be âgrowthâ.
If winning the race and grabbing a seat in some reputed college takes a toll on your mental, physical, and psychological health, then, we are seriously doing something wrong here. After all, these are the same factors leading to the rising number of suicides among the youths.
Not getting good marks doesnât mean that you are not good enough for anything. It just means that you havenât explored everything yet. There are many great personalities like Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, J.K. Rowling, who were a failure on the scales of conventional methods. But they proved everyone wrong.
All you need to remember is that never lose faith in yourself. If you really love what you do and consistently pour all of your energy into that task, then, definitely success is waiting for you! Make a routine of your choice and follow it religiously. Stay punctual. Fix your eyes on the goal and keep working.
Success and Hard Work
You can only work hard when you are fit overall. A good health is not just about having a strong body but also a strong mind and willpower. For all these things, you need energy. So, pay attention to things that you are feeding to your sensory organs. This includes from the proper diet to releasing stress, stay positive, working out, having those around who believe in you.
Donât just work hard on your curriculum only. Take charge of other aspects too. As much as possible, include healthy foods in the diet. Staying positive induces good hormones in the body and the effect clearly shows in your performance. To strengthen your mental health, meditate every day.
Sitting around greenery, talking to your loved ones, reading positive books, are some of the other ways to replenish your energy levels. Make sure to work out every day, or at least go for a 30-minutes walk. Keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of water and other fluids.
Apart from focusing on the positive steps, be careful of the negative factors too. For instance, any negative conversation or toxic people in your life may suck away all your energy and charm. Try your best to avoid these triggers. Not only that, distractions like television, online chats, social media, parties, etc. should not be underestimated.
Keep your body and mind clean like a temple. It will help you work harder and with more effectiveness. There are no shortcuts to success. However, prefer to work smart rather than work hard. Never ever neglect the amount of sleep you get. There is no substitute for proper sleep.
Lack of sleep makes you cranky. Your concentration and memory become poorer. The learning becomes slower. So, a million dollar advice would be to get sufficient sleep, that means up to 8-10 hours. A few hours may be up and down depending on the personâs body requirements.
It is okay if the hard work makes you tired. However, the whole idea of hard work should not suffocate you. They say that if you love what you do, you donât have to work a day in your life! If the set goals donât well-align with your heart, explore something that does. Your goals should be set by you and not anyone else.
Success and Failure
Do you fear failure? What is the definition of failure according to you? How important is a failure for success? Let us find some answers to these amazing questions and doubts that we all face within us. To make things easier, here are a few great quotes for you!
âOnly those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.â – Robert F. Kennedy
âGiving up is the only sure way to fail.â – Gena Showalter
âI have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.â – Thomas A. Edison
Must have changed your perspective a bit! Well, it wonât be wrong to say that failure is a part of success. It is an inevitable part of that process. Like two sides of a coin. You cannot expect to taste success until you have learned to embrace the failures.
There is an interesting story about it with a strong message. There used to live a guy who owned a grand and luxurious car. That car always stayed inside the house. The man never drove it. One day, one of his friends visited him and asked the reason for not taking the car out on the road.
Do you know what the man replied? He said that he would take the car out when all the traffic lights are green. He was waiting for an impossible thing to happen! Can you believe that? Itâs ironic but yes, we all do the same metaphorically.
When we donât take steps due to the fear of failure, subconsciously, we are waiting for everything to be perfect. So perfect that there would be no tiny scope for failing. That means there would be no red lights at all. How is that even possible!
Leave the fear of failure behind. The only thing you should be scared of is not making efforts. Because that kills even the slightest chance of success. Be humble and embrace failure. Learn from your mistakes. These lessons are valuable. No book would teach you the way your experiences will.
Success is a cumulative and relative term. Without peace and love, money and fame donât count as success. True success would satiate your soul. It would fill your life with joy. Shrug off the idea of comparing your life with someone elseâs. Every person follows a different path and journey. That is why the meaning of success also varies from one individual to another.
No matter how difficult or impossible seems the goal, never quit. Keep working and one day you would succeed. Donât confine your ambitions to just making money. Listen to your heart and follow it. The voices within us are our guiding lights!
Try to be a good person before becoming a successful person. Only an individual who has earned the love and respect of all has achieved the truest success.

How to Write a 300 Words Essay (+ Examples for Students)
What is a 300-word essay?
It’s an academic paper students write in school or college. The goal is to express an idea, state an argument, or analyze a topic. The only problem with such essays is their concise format.
Your task is to meet the required length but convey information in the logical manner. How is it possible with such restrictions? How to format such a short essay?
In this article, you’ll find a few samples of 300-word essays. Also, you’ll learn the rules of structuring and formatting such papers right.
Example of 300 Words Essay
Let’s begin with examples (1). A 300-word essay looks like this:
|
Who am I essay: 300 words sample
A “Who am I?” Essay is a part of the application process for those entering college or university. You get a prompt to describe yourself and tell your goals and motivations. In other words, it’s a personal essay telling admission officers why you want to be their student.

How to Write a 300-Word Essay
Writing a 300-word essay in education is about being brief yet informative. Such tasks check your ability to build arguments and communicate points. Structure it to cover all essay parts and follow the assigned citation style.
300-word essays have a standard structure: an intro, a core, and a conclusion. The body is for organizing and representing the main points. Below you’ll find five techniques to do that.
5 methods of structuring a 300-word paper
- Essence. Write everything that comes to your mind about the topic. Then, re-read it and point out three main ideas to cover in your essay. Describe them one by one when writing a paper’s body.
- Three points. Make a list of sub-topics related to your essay’s theme. Then, expand each sub-topic with three more points. Finally, choose three sub-topics with most relevant points to support your thesis. Take them to describe in an essay’s body.
- 3+1. It involves four steps: State a thesis, introduce it, expand on it, and finish your essay. The last step is the “+1” in the technique’s name. The trick is to write a conclusion first and then continue with other essay parts.
- Divide. Write each part of your essay separately. Re-read each paragraph once you have it to revise if something looks wrong. When ready, move to another essay part.
- Simple. Introduce a topic with 12 distinct points, grouping them into 3 blocks with 4 sentences each.
What does a 300-word essay look like?
Use this template to structure your 300-word paper. Here’s what to include in each part:
A 300-word essay introduction:
- Start with introducing your topic.
- State your thesis (the main idea of your essay).
- List the main supporting ideas you’ll discuss to prove it.
How to structure body paragraphs:
As a rule, you write three body paragraphs in an essay. Given the restricted length, each should be short and up-to-pont. Please avoid too many transitional words, long descriptions, or complex sentence structures.
Structure essay body paragraphs like this:
- Write a lead sentence introducing the paragraph’s idea.
- Explain it: 1-3 sentences.
- Provide 1-2 examples.
Concluding your 300-word essay:
Restate all the points you covered in an essay. (You can take them from the introduction and paraphrase.) Finish with the food for thought for readers: a statement, a question, etc.
300-word essay format
12 pt Times New Roman | 12 pt Times New Roman
Double (no extra space between paragraphs) | Double (no extra space between paragraphs)
One-inch (all sides) | One-inch (all sides)
Upper-middle of the page: essay title, your name, college, course, teacherâs name, date | Upper left corner: your name, teacherâs name, course, date
Centered, above the first line of your essay; bold and titlecase | Centered, above the first line of your essay; the same font and size
Top left: a shortened essay title (below 50 characters).Top right corner: page numbers | Top left: your last name and a page number
Left-hand | Left-hand |
Final tips on writing short essays:
- Be concise; no fluff. Cut all sentences that sound too generic or look unnecessary.
- Focus on a catchy beginning and a strong conclusion.
- Write as you speak; then revise each sentence for language patterns and clarity.
- What is 300 words in an essay?
300 words in an essay is the length of a standard academic paper you write in school or college. Depending on formatting, it takes 0.6 pages (single-spaced) or 1.2 pages (double-spaced). This short writing piece is best to share ideas or analyze assigned topics briefly.
- How many paragraphs is a 300 words essay?
A 300 words essay follows a 5-paragraph structure. The first paragraph goes for an introduction, three â for a body, and the final one â for a conclusion. This rule isn’t strict: Your essay body can be one or two, not three, paragraphs (2). Check the prompt’s guidelines before writing.
- How many pages is a 300-word essay?
It’s around 1-1.5 pages, depending on the formatting. Font size and spacing may differ from one prompt to another. In general, a 300-word essay is about 0.6 pages if single-spaced and 1.2 pages if double-spaced.

How to Write a 300 Word Essay â Simple Tutorial
If you need to write a 300-word essay, youâve come to the right place. Iâm Tutor Phil, and in this tutorial Iâll guide you through the process step by step.
Weâll write a complete essay together, so youâll have an example of a 300-word essay, as well.Â
Writing a 300-word essay is a 5-step process.
Step 1. Plan the number of words in each paragraph.
Whenever you know an exact number of words you need to write, this makes your task so much easier. Because now you can plan out exactly how many words each paragraph will contain.
Typically, a 300-word essay consists of five paragraphs. This means that you will have:
- The introductory paragraph
- Three body paragraphs
- The concluding paragraph (conclusion)
How would you distribute 300 words across these five paragraphs? Well, let me give you a very simple way to do that:
If you add up these numbers, youâll get 300. And thatâs all you need â a short introduction and conclusion plus three brief and to the point body paragraphs.
Step 2. Decide on your main and supporting points.
Letâs say your instructor gives you this essay topic:
âHow does playing video games affect adults?â
First, we should decide â are adults affected positively or negatively? This will give us a frame of reference for the rest of the essay.Â
And letâs just make a decision and say that video games affect adults negatively .
Donât worry about making such decisions. Just decide, and youâll see that youâll always find plenty of ideas to support your point.Â
Next, letâs use the Power of Three to divide this topic and come up with three ways in which gaming affects adults.Â
The power of three is just a technique I use to divide the main idea into supporting ideas.Â
This means that your main point is true for three reasons or your process happens in three ways. Basically, itâs a three-part structure. It helps produce three body paragraphs. Â
And letâs do it. Letâs come up with three ways in which video games affect adults:
- Adults who play video games tend to spend too much time doing it.
- Adults often substitute virtual reality for real life experiences.Â
- Adult gamers often spend too much money on their virtual realities.Â
And now we have everything we need to begin writing out the essay. Weâre ready for the next step.Â
Step 3. Write out the complete introductory paragraph.
Hereâs the structure of an introductory paragraph in a 300-word essay:
The first sentence is the introduction. In it, your job is to pull the reader from his world into the world of your essay.
And the rest of the opening paragraph is the thesis statement. It includes your main point in one sentence and three supporting points.Â
A 300 word essay introductory paragraph example
âWhether and how video games affect adult gamers has been a subject of an ongoing debate. Playing video games harms adults in three ways. It wastes their valuable time. It often acts as a substitute for real life experiences. And it often wastes their money.â
Note how the first sentence is very general. It sets the context for the entire essay. The next sentence is the main point (thesis). And the final three sentences are the supporting points for the thesis.Â
Also note that we have exactly 45 words in this paragraph. So far so good.Â
Step 4. Write the body paragraphs.
The body of our essay will consist of three body paragraphs. Here is how to structure a body paragraph in a 300-word essay:
We know that each of our body paragraphs should contain roughly 70 words, and we can begin writing.Â
Paragraph 1.
âTime is precious for adults, and playing video games can be too time-consuming. Adults are burdened with such responsibilities as full-time work and various chores. Playing video games can sometimes so completely engross an adult that he can forget to attend to tasks every mature adult must do. My friend Andy has been an avid player of video games. But as an adult, he often forgets to do his laundry.â
In this paragraph, the first sentence is a lead sentence. It summarizes the paragraph perfectly. And it dictates the structure of the rest of the paragraph.
The second sentence is an explanation of why adults need to be concerned with wasting their time.Â
The third sentence explains how video games can steal time from adult gamers.Â
And the final two sentences illustrate the point by providing a specific example.Â
Paragraph 2.Â
âAdult gamers often substitute gaming for living real lives. Games provide them with a sense of adventure. They can slay dragons, conquer kingdoms, and fall in love virtually. But real life offers plenty of adventures to take on, and gamers miss out on them because they fulfill their needs by sitting at the computer. Andy often complains about his lack of personal life, and I know what is to blame.â
Note how this paragraph follows the exact same structure I outlined in the diagram above. It proceeds from general to specific:
- The lead sentence
- An explanation
Paragraph 3. Â
âMoney is another concern with adult gaming because games cost money and often have ongoing costs. Expenses associated with gaming can add up, especially when playing games online. The gamer has all kinds of things to buy from game creators, such as life and energy points, weapons, and even living creatures. Andy told me that his last purchase was a dragon for one hundred dollars. I thought he was crazy.â
Again, this paragraph follows the basic body paragraph structure. It also contains 70 words, as planned.Â
And itâs time for the final step.
Step 5. Write the conclusion.Â
The easiest and most time-proven way to write a conclusion is to simply restate all the points using different words.Â
You can even copy your introductory paragraph and change all the wording.Â
I usually just write the conclusion while checking in with the thesis statement. I donât copy and paste but just write the conclusion based on the introduction.
Letâs write it.
âPlaying video games as an adult can be detrimental to time management, dealing with real life, and personal finances. Video games are notorious for wasting precious resources. Time tends to fly while gaming. Real life gives way to imaginary conquests. And money can dwindle fast.â
As you can tell, this conclusion paragraph simply restates the points weâve already made in the essay. But it uses different words and phrases to do so.
Note that it contains 45 words. And now we have an essay that is exactly 300 words long!
Additional Tips and Tricks
You can use these techniques to write any number of words. Â
Letâs say you need to write 500 words. What do you do? Just distribute these 500 words across your paragraphs. You might have the following word count scheme:
- Introduction â 70 words
- Body paragraph 1 â 120 words
- Body paragraph 2 â 120 words
- Body paragraph 3 â 120 words
- Conclusion â 70 words
If you need to write a longer essay, or if you struggle with essay writing in general, you should really read my tutorial on essay writing for beginners by clicking here .
Your thesis statement is your outline.
Your introductory paragraph is essentially a complete thesis statement with an introductory sentence added in the beginning.
If you look at your main and supporting points, youâll see a clear structure. It has three main sections, each containing a paragraph.
Note that each section can contain as many paragraphs as you want. Just remember to structure them the way you learned here.
But your thesis statement is your guide to writing the complete essay. It is just the way a lead sentence is your guide to writing the body paragraph.Â
I hope this was helpful. Now go ahead and write that brilliant 300-word essay!

100 Words Essay on Qualities of a Successful Person
Introduction.
A successful person is not defined by wealth alone. Success is about achieving personal goals, being happy, and contributing to society. Letâs explore some qualities of a successful person.
Hard work is crucial. Successful people understand that effort is required to achieve goals. They are not afraid of challenges or failures.
Resilience is another key. Success often comes after numerous failures. Successful people learn from their mistakes and keep trying.
Positive Attitude
A positive attitude helps in overcoming obstacles. Successful people are optimistic and believe in their abilities.
250 Words Essay on Qualities of a Successful Person
Success is a subjective term, varying from person to person. However, certain qualities are universally recognized as key indicators of a successful individual. These include resilience, self-awareness, and adaptability among others.
Resilience is the ability to bounce back from failures and setbacks. Successful people are not immune to failures, but they possess the mental fortitude to learn from these experiences and continue forward. They view obstacles not as insurmountable barriers, but as opportunities for growth and learning.
Self-Awareness
Self-awareness is another hallmark of success. It involves understanding oneâs strengths, weaknesses, emotions, and motivations. Successful people are introspective, continually examining their actions and decisions. This self-awareness allows them to make informed choices, align their actions with their values, and continuously improve themselves.
Adaptability
In a rapidly changing world, adaptability is a crucial trait for success. Successful people are open to new ideas and are able to adjust their strategies and plans to suit changing circumstances. They are not rigid in their thinking or approach, but rather, they embrace change and innovation.
While there are many qualities that can contribute to a personâs success, resilience, self-awareness, and adaptability stand out as particularly important. These qualities enable individuals to navigate the challenges of life, learn from their experiences, and continually adapt to new circumstances. Therefore, cultivating these qualities is a worthwhile endeavor for anyone seeking to achieve success.
500 Words Essay on Qualities of a Successful Person
Self-discipline.
One of the most important qualities of a successful person is self-discipline. It is the ability to control oneâs impulses, emotions, desires, and behavior. It is what separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Successful people understand the importance of consistency and persistence in their actions. They do not let immediate gratification distract them from their long-term goals.
Resilience is another critical quality. Success is not always a smooth journey; it is often fraught with failures and setbacks. Successful people are those who can withstand these challenges and bounce back stronger. They view failures not as the end but as stepping stones towards success. They learn from their mistakes and use them to improve and grow.
Curiosity and Continuous Learning
Successful individuals are inherently curious. They have an insatiable desire to learn and grow. They understand that the world is constantly evolving, and to stay ahead, they must continually update their knowledge and skills. They are open to new ideas and perspectives, and they actively seek opportunities for learning and development.
Integrity is a fundamental quality of successful people. They are honest and ethical in their dealings. They believe in fairness and justice. They uphold their values and principles, even when it is difficult or inconvenient. Their actions are guided by a strong moral compass, and they earn respect and trust through their integrity.
Empathy and Emotional Intelligence
In conclusion, success is not merely about wealth or fame. It is about fulfilling oneâs potential and making a positive impact. The qualities of self-discipline, resilience, passion, curiosity, integrity, and emotional intelligence are key to achieving this success. They are not innate but can be developed and nurtured over time. As we strive for success, we should endeavor to cultivate these qualities within ourselves.
Thatâs it! I hope the essay helped you.

What Excellent College Essays Have in Common
Even though in many ways these sample college essays are very different from one other, they do share some traits you should try to emulate as you write your own essay.
Visible Signs of Planning
Building out from a narrow, concrete focus. You'll see a similar structure in many of the essays. The author starts with a very detailed story of an event or description of a person or place. After this sense-heavy imagery, the essay expands out to make a broader point about the author, and connects this very memorable experience to the author's present situation, state of mind, newfound understanding, or maturity level.
Knowing how to tell a story. Some of the experiences in these essays are one-of-a-kind. But most deal with the stuff of everyday life. What sets them apart is the way the author approaches the topic: analyzing it for drama and humor, for its moving qualities, for what it says about the author's world, and for how it connects to the author's emotional life.
Stellar Execution
A killer first sentence. You've heard it before, and you'll hear it again: you have to suck the reader in, and the best place to do that is the first sentence. Great first sentences are punchy. They are like cliffhangers, setting up an exciting scene or an unusual situation with an unclear conclusion, in order to make the reader want to know more. Don't take my word for itâcheck out these 22 first sentences from Stanford applicants and tell me you don't want to read the rest of those essays to find out what happens!
A lively, individual voice. Writing is for readers. In this case, your reader is an admissions officer who has read thousands of essays before yours and will read thousands after. Your goal? Don't bore your reader. Use interesting descriptions, stay away from clichĂŠs, include your own offbeat observationsâanything that makes this essay sounds like you and not like anyone else.
Technical correctness. No spelling mistakes, no grammar weirdness, no syntax issues, no punctuation snafusâeach of these sample college essays has been formatted and proofread perfectly. If this kind of exactness is not your strong suit, you're in luck! All colleges advise applicants to have their essays looked over several times by parents, teachers, mentors, and anyone else who can spot a comma splice. Your essay must be your own work, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting help polishing it.

Analyzing Great Common App Essays That Worked
I've picked two essays from the examples collected above to examine in more depth so that you can see exactly what makes a successful college essay work. Full credit for these essays goes to the original authors and the schools that published them.
Example 1: "Breaking Into Cars," by Stephen, Johns Hopkins Class of '19 (Common App Essay, 636 words long)
I had never broken into a car before.
We were in Laredo, having just finished our first day at a Habitat for Humanity work site. The Hotchkiss volunteers had already left, off to enjoy some Texas BBQ, leaving me behind with the college kids to clean up. Not until we were stranded did we realize we were locked out of the van.
Someone picked a coat hanger out of the dumpster, handed it to me, and took a few steps back.
"Can you do that thing with a coat hanger to unlock it?"
"Why me?" I thought.
More out of amusement than optimism, I gave it a try. I slid the hanger into the window's seal like I'd seen on crime shows, and spent a few minutes jiggling the apparatus around the inside of the frame. Suddenly, two things simultaneously clicked. One was the lock on the door. (I actually succeeded in springing it.) The other was the realization that I'd been in this type of situation before. In fact, I'd been born into this type of situation.
My upbringing has numbed me to unpredictability and chaos. With a family of seven, my home was loud, messy, and spottily supervised. My siblings arguing, the dog barking, the phone ringingâall meant my house was functioning normally. My Dad, a retired Navy pilot, was away half the time. When he was home, he had a parenting style something like a drill sergeant. At the age of nine, I learned how to clear burning oil from the surface of water. My Dad considered this a critical life skillâyou know, in case my aircraft carrier should ever get torpedoed. "The water's on fire! Clear a hole!" he shouted, tossing me in the lake without warning. While I'm still unconvinced about that particular lesson's practicality, my Dad's overarching message is unequivocally true: much of life is unexpected, and you have to deal with the twists and turns.
Living in my family, days rarely unfolded as planned. A bit overlooked, a little pushed around, I learned to roll with reality, negotiate a quick deal, and give the improbable a try. I don't sweat the small stuff, and I definitely don't expect perfect fairness. So what if our dining room table only has six chairs for seven people? Someone learns the importance of punctuality every night.
But more than punctuality and a special affinity for musical chairs, my family life has taught me to thrive in situations over which I have no power. Growing up, I never controlled my older siblings, but I learned how to thwart their attempts to control me. I forged alliances, and realigned them as necessary. Sometimes, I was the poor, defenseless little brother; sometimes I was the omniscient elder. Different things to different people, as the situation demanded. I learned to adapt.
Back then, these techniques were merely reactions undertaken to ensure my survival. But one day this fall, Dr. Hicks, our Head of School, asked me a question that he hoped all seniors would reflect on throughout the year: "How can I participate in a thing I do not govern, in the company of people I did not choose?"
The question caught me off guard, much like the question posed to me in Laredo. Then, I realized I knew the answer. I knew why the coat hanger had been handed to me.
Growing up as the middle child in my family, I was a vital participant in a thing I did not govern, in the company of people I did not choose. It's family. It's society. And often, it's chaos. You participate by letting go of the small stuff, not expecting order and perfection, and facing the unexpected with confidence, optimism, and preparedness. My family experience taught me to face a serendipitous world with confidence.
What Makes This Essay Tick?
It's very helpful to take writing apart in order to see just how it accomplishes its objectives. Stephen's essay is very effective. Let's find out why!
An Opening Line That Draws You In
In just eight words, we get: scene-setting (he is standing next to a car about to break in), the idea of crossing a boundary (he is maybe about to do an illegal thing for the first time), and a cliffhanger (we are thinking: is he going to get caught? Is he headed for a life of crime? Is he about to be scared straight?).
Great, Detailed Opening Story
More out of amusement than optimism, I gave it a try. I slid the hanger into the window's seal like I'd seen on crime shows, and spent a few minutes jiggling the apparatus around the inside of the frame.
It's the details that really make this small experience come alive. Notice how whenever he can, Stephen uses a more specific, descriptive word in place of a more generic one. The volunteers aren't going to get food or dinner; they're going for "Texas BBQ." The coat hanger comes from "a dumpster." Stephen doesn't just move the coat hangerâhe "jiggles" it.
Details also help us visualize the emotions of the people in the scene. The person who hands Stephen the coat hanger isn't just uncomfortable or nervous; he "takes a few steps back"âa description of movement that conveys feelings. Finally, the detail of actual speech makes the scene pop. Instead of writing that the other guy asked him to unlock the van, Stephen has the guy actually say his own words in a way that sounds like a teenager talking.
Turning a Specific Incident Into a Deeper Insight
Suddenly, two things simultaneously clicked. One was the lock on the door. (I actually succeeded in springing it.) The other was the realization that I'd been in this type of situation before. In fact, I'd been born into this type of situation.
Stephen makes the locked car experience a meaningful illustration of how he has learned to be resourceful and ready for anything, and he also makes this turn from the specific to the broad through an elegant play on the two meanings of the word "click."
Using Concrete Examples When Making Abstract Claims
My upbringing has numbed me to unpredictability and chaos. With a family of seven, my home was loud, messy, and spottily supervised. My siblings arguing, the dog barking, the phone ringingâall meant my house was functioning normally.
"Unpredictability and chaos" are very abstract, not easily visualized concepts. They could also mean any number of thingsâviolence, abandonment, poverty, mental instability. By instantly following up with highly finite and unambiguous illustrations like "family of seven" and "siblings arguing, the dog barking, the phone ringing," Stephen grounds the abstraction in something that is easy to picture: a large, noisy family.
Using Small Bits of Humor and Casual Word Choice
My Dad, a retired Navy pilot, was away half the time. When he was home, he had a parenting style something like a drill sergeant. At the age of nine, I learned how to clear burning oil from the surface of water. My Dad considered this a critical life skillâyou know, in case my aircraft carrier should ever get torpedoed.
Obviously, knowing how to clean burning oil is not high on the list of things every 9-year-old needs to know. To emphasize this, Stephen uses sarcasm by bringing up a situation that is clearly over-the-top: "in case my aircraft carrier should ever get torpedoed."
The humor also feels relaxed. Part of this is because he introduces it with the colloquial phrase "you know," so it sounds like he is talking to us in person. This approach also diffuses the potential discomfort of the reader with his father's strictnessâsince he is making jokes about it, clearly he is OK. Notice, though, that this doesn't occur very much in the essay. This helps keep the tone meaningful and serious rather than flippant.
An Ending That Stretches the Insight Into the Future
But one day this fall, Dr. Hicks, our Head of School, asked me a question that he hoped all seniors would reflect on throughout the year: "How can I participate in a thing I do not govern, in the company of people I did not choose?"
The ending of the essay reveals that Stephen's life has been one long preparation for the future. He has emerged from chaos and his dad's approach to parenting as a person who can thrive in a world that he can't control.
This connection of past experience to current maturity and self-knowledge is a key element in all successful personal essays. Colleges are very much looking for mature, self-aware applicants. These are the qualities of successful college students, who will be able to navigate the independence college classes require and the responsibility and quasi-adulthood of college life.
What Could This Essay Do Even Better?
Even the best essays aren't perfect, and even the world's greatest writers will tell you that writing is never "finished"âjust "due." So what would we tweak in this essay if we could?
Replace some of the clichĂŠd language. Stephen uses handy phrases like "twists and turns" and "don't sweat the small stuff" as a kind of shorthand for explaining his relationship to chaos and unpredictability. But using too many of these ready-made expressions runs the risk of clouding out your own voice and replacing it with something expected and boring.
Use another example from recent life. Stephen's first example (breaking into the van in Laredo) is a great illustration of being resourceful in an unexpected situation. But his essay also emphasizes that he "learned to adapt" by being "different things to different people." It would be great to see how this plays out outside his family, either in the situation in Laredo or another context.
Example 2: By Renner Kwittken, Tufts Class of '23 (Common App Essay, 645 words long)
My first dream job was to be a pickle truck driver. I saw it in my favorite book, Richard Scarry's "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go," and for some reason, I was absolutely obsessed with the idea of driving a giant pickle. Much to the discontent of my younger sister, I insisted that my parents read us that book as many nights as possible so we could find goldbug, a small little golden bug, on every page. I would imagine the wonderful life I would have: being a pig driving a giant pickle truck across the country, chasing and finding goldbug. I then moved on to wanting to be a Lego Master. Then an architect. Then a surgeon.
Then I discovered a real goldbug: gold nanoparticles that can reprogram macrophages to assist in killing tumors, produce clear images of them without sacrificing the subject, and heat them to obliteration.
Suddenly the destination of my pickle was clear.
I quickly became enveloped by the world of nanomedicine; I scoured articles about liposomes, polymeric micelles, dendrimers, targeting ligands, and self-assembling nanoparticles, all conquering cancer in some exotic way. Completely absorbed, I set out to find a mentor to dive even deeper into these topics. After several rejections, I was immensely grateful to receive an invitation to work alongside Dr. Sangeeta Ray at Johns Hopkins.
In the lab, Dr. Ray encouraged a great amount of autonomy to design and implement my own procedures. I chose to attack a problem that affects the entire field of nanomedicine: nanoparticles consistently fail to translate from animal studies into clinical trials. Jumping off recent literature, I set out to see if a pre-dose of a common chemotherapeutic could enhance nanoparticle delivery in aggressive prostate cancer, creating three novel constructs based on three different linear polymers, each using fluorescent dye (although no gold, sorry goldbug!). Though using radioactive isotopes like Gallium and Yttrium would have been incredible, as a 17-year-old, I unfortunately wasn't allowed in the same room as these radioactive materials (even though I took a Geiger counter to a pair of shoes and found them to be slightly dangerous).
I hadn't expected my hypothesis to work, as the research project would have ideally been led across two full years. Yet while there are still many optimizations and revisions to be done, I was thrilled to find -- with completely new nanoparticles that may one day mean future trials will use particles with the initials "RK-1" -- thatcyclophosphamide did indeed increase nanoparticle delivery to the tumor in a statistically significant way.
A secondary, unexpected research project was living alone in Baltimore, a new city to me, surrounded by people much older than I. Even with moving frequently between hotels, AirBnB's, and students' apartments, I strangely reveled in the freedom I had to enjoy my surroundings and form new friendships with graduate school students from the lab. We explored The Inner Harbor at night, attended a concert together one weekend, and even got to watch the Orioles lose (to nobody's surprise). Ironically, it's through these new friendships I discovered something unexpected: what I truly love is sharing research. Whether in a presentation or in a casual conversation, making others interested in science is perhaps more exciting to me than the research itself. This solidified a new pursuit to angle my love for writing towards illuminating science in ways people can understand, adding value to a society that can certainly benefit from more scientific literacy.
It seems fitting that my goals are still transforming: in Scarry's book, there is not just one goldbug, there is one on every page. With each new experience, I'm learning that it isn't the goldbug itself, but rather the act of searching for the goldbugs that will encourage, shape, and refine my ever-evolving passions. Regardless of the goldbug I seek -- I know my pickle truck has just begun its journey.
Renner takes a somewhat different approach than Stephen, but their essay is just as detailed and engaging. Let's go through some of the strengths of this essay.
One Clear Governing Metaphor
This essay is ultimately about two things: Rennerâs dreams and future career goals, and Rennerâs philosophy on goal-setting and achieving oneâs dreams.
But instead of listing off all the amazing things theyâve done to pursue their dream of working in nanomedicine, Renner tells a powerful, unique story instead. To set up the narrative, Renner opens the essay by connecting their experiences with goal-setting and dream-chasing all the way back to a memorable childhood experience:
This lightheartedâbut relevant!--story about the moment when Renner first developed a passion for a specific career (âfinding the goldbugâ) provides an anchor point for the rest of the essay. As Renner pivots to describing their current dreams and goalsâworking in nanomedicineâthe metaphor of âfinding the goldbugâ is reflected in Rennerâs experiments, rejections, and new discoveries.
Though Renner tells multiple stories about their quest to âfind the goldbug,â or, in other words, pursue their passion, each story is connected by a unifying theme; namely, that as we search and grow over time, our goals will transformâŚand thatâs okay! By the end of the essay, Renner uses the metaphor of âfinding the goldbugâ to reiterate the relevance of the opening story:
While the earlier parts of the essay convey Rennerâs core message by showing, the final, concluding paragraph sums up Rennerâs insights by telling. By briefly and clearly stating the relevance of the goldbug metaphor to their own philosophy on goals and dreams, Renner demonstrates their creativity, insight, and eagerness to grow and evolve as the journey continues into college.
An Engaging, Individual Voice
This essay uses many techniques that make Renner sound genuine and make the reader feel like we already know them.
Technique #1: humor. Notice Renner's gentle and relaxed humor that lightly mocks their younger self's grand ambitions (this is different from the more sarcastic kind of humor used by Stephen in the first essayâyou could never mistake one writer for the other).
My first dream job was to be a pickle truck driver.
I would imagine the wonderful life I would have: being a pig driving a giant pickle truck across the country, chasing and finding goldbug. I then moved on to wanting to be a Lego Master. Then an architect. Then a surgeon.
Renner gives a great example of how to use humor to your advantage in college essays. You donât want to come off as too self-deprecating or sarcastic, but telling a lightheartedly humorous story about your younger self that also showcases how youâve grown and changed over time can set the right tone for your entire essay.
Technique #2: intentional, eye-catching structure. The second technique is the way Renner uses a unique structure to bolster the tone and themes of their essay . The structure of your essay can have a major impact on how your ideas come acrossâŚso itâs important to give it just as much thought as the content of your essay!
For instance, Renner does a great job of using one-line paragraphs to create dramatic emphasis and to make clear transitions from one phase of the story to the next:
Suddenly the destination of my pickle car was clear.
Not only does the one-liner above signal that Renner is moving into a new phase of the narrative (their nanoparticle research experiences), it also tells the reader that this is a big moment in Rennerâs story. Itâs clear that Renner made a major discovery that changed the course of their goal pursuit and dream-chasing. Through structure, Renner conveys excitement and entices the reader to keep pushing forward to the next part of the story.
Technique #3: playing with syntax. The third technique is to use sentences of varying length, syntax, and structure. Most of the essay's written in standard English and uses grammatically correct sentences. However, at key moments, Renner emphasizes that the reader needs to sit up and pay attention by switching to short, colloquial, differently punctuated, and sometimes fragmented sentences.
In the examples above, Renner switches adeptly between long, flowing sentences and quippy, telegraphic ones. At the same time, Renner uses these different sentence lengths intentionally. As they describe their experiences in new places, they use longer sentences to immerse the reader in the sights, smells, and sounds of those experiences. And when itâs time to get a big, key idea across, Renner switches to a short, punchy sentence to stop the reader in their tracks.
The varying syntax and sentence lengths pull the reader into the narrative and set up crucial âahaâ moments when itâs most importantâŚwhich is a surefire way to make any college essay stand out.
Renner's essay is very strong, but there are still a few little things that could be improved.
Connecting the research experiences to the theme of âfinding the goldbug.â The essay begins and ends with Rennerâs connection to the idea of âfinding the goldbug.â And while this metaphor is deftly tied into the essayâs intro and conclusion, it isnât entirely clear what Rennerâs big findings were during the research experiences that are described in the middle of the essay. It would be great to add a sentence or two stating what Rennerâs big takeaways (or âgoldbugsâ) were from these experiences, which add more cohesion to the essay as a whole.
Give more details about discovering the world of nanomedicine. It makes sense that Renner wants to get into the details of their big research experiences as quickly as possible. After all, these are the details that show Rennerâs dedication to nanomedicine! But a smoother transition from the opening pickle car/goldbug story to Rennerâs âreal goldbugâ of nanoparticles would help the reader understand why nanoparticles became Rennerâs goldbug. Finding out why Renner is so motivated to study nanomedicineâand perhaps what put them on to this field of studyâwould help readers fully understand why Renner chose this path in the first place.
4 Essential Tips for Writing Your Own Essay
How can you use this discussion to better your own college essay? Here are some suggestions for ways to use this resource effectively.
#1: Get Help From the Experts
Getting your college applications together takes a lot of work and can be pretty intimidatin g. Essays are even more important than ever now that admissions processes are changing and schools are going test-optional and removing diversity standards thanks to new Supreme Court rulings . If you want certified expert help that really makes a difference, get started with PrepScholarâs Essay Editing and Coaching program. Our program can help you put together an incredible essay from idea to completion so that your application stands out from the crowd. We've helped students get into the best colleges in the United States, including Harvard, Stanford, and Yale. If you're ready to take the next step and boost your odds of getting into your dream school, connect with our experts today .
#2: Read Other Essays to Get Ideas for Your Own
As you go through the essays we've compiled for you above, ask yourself the following questions:
- Can you explain to yourself (or someone else!) why the opening sentence works well?
- Look for the essay's detailed personal anecdote. What senses is the author describing? Can you easily picture the scene in your mind's eye?
- Find the place where this anecdote bridges into a larger insight about the author. How does the essay connect the two? How does the anecdote work as an example of the author's characteristic, trait, or skill?
- Check out the essay's tone. If it's funny, can you find the places where the humor comes from? If it's sad and moving, can you find the imagery and description of feelings that make you moved? If it's serious, can you see how word choice adds to this tone?
Make a note whenever you find an essay or part of an essay that you think was particularly well-written, and think about what you like about it . Is it funny? Does it help you really get to know the writer? Does it show what makes the writer unique? Once you have your list, keep it next to you while writing your essay to remind yourself to try and use those same techniques in your own essay.
#3: Find Your "A-Ha!" Moment
All of these essays rely on connecting with the reader through a heartfelt, highly descriptive scene from the author's life. It can either be very dramatic (did you survive a plane crash?) or it can be completely mundane (did you finally beat your dad at Scrabble?). Either way, it should be personal and revealing about you, your personality, and the way you are now that you are entering the adult world.
Check out essays by authors like John Jeremiah Sullivan , Leslie Jamison , Hanif Abdurraqib , and EsmĂŠ Weijun Wang to get more examples of how to craft a compelling personal narrative.
#4: Start Early, Revise Often
Let me level with you: the best writing isn't writing at all. It's rewriting. And in order to have time to rewrite, you have to start way before the application deadline. My advice is to write your first draft at least two months before your applications are due.
Let it sit for a few days untouched. Then come back to it with fresh eyes and think critically about what you've written. What's extra? What's missing? What is in the wrong place? What doesn't make sense? Don't be afraid to take it apart and rearrange sections. Do this several times over, and your essay will be much better for it!

More importantly, they what they like to do not what that others told them to do. Successful people do what they like to do also they do what they feel correct for their business.

Success and hard work
It may sound unfit to some peoples but success depends a lot of hard work. Without it, you canât become successful. Hard work does not mean that you do laborious work or the work that make you sweat. Hard work means having a healthy body, strong mind, willpower and positive attitude towards things. And for all those things you need energy. So, be attentive to your body and soul.
Besides, do not just work on your program, push your limit, take charge of other things, improve your skills and most importantly keep learning. Apart from that, be with positive peoples, develop positive habits, and do exercise not only for the body but also for your mind.
To sum it up, we can say that success is like a seed that needs a balanced proportion of all the elements of life. And no one can achieve success in a day they have to go through and face different conditions in life for being successful. Above all, success is the feeling of fulfillment that you feel when you achieve your goal.

Paragraph on Success - Check Samples for 100, 150, 200, 250 Word Count
Everyone wishes to be successful in their lives. But the meaning of success varies from one person to the other. Success can be defined as achieving goals in life. One can be successful if one puts in the effort and works hard. It is impossible to achieve success and achieve your goals without continuous effort and hard work.

Paragraph on success in 100 words, paragraph on success in 150 words, paragraph on success in 200 words, paragraph on success in 250 words, frequently asked questions on success.
One can be called successful if they have achieved their desired goals. For some people, being successful means being rich. But being successful is even more than being rich. When you achieve what you want, it gives you immense pleasure, and that is incomparable with being rich. To be successful in any aspect of life, one needs to have strong dedication and work hard. Opportunities will come and go, but you must decide the path to success. To achieve something, you will have to cross the hurdles. It would help if you crossed the difficulties with confidence and never gave up. If you give up, then all your efforts become useless.
Every manâs dream is to be successful but achieving success is in your hands. Success begins with someoneâs efforts and hard work. If a person has a goal and does not try to fulfil his goal, then he can never achieve success. To be successful, a person needs to work hard and put in a lot of effort. To achieve your goal, you need to chase after it, and you must be dedicated. Hard work and dedication are the two mantras of being successful. The meaning of success might differ from one person to the other, but the pleasure of being successful is incomparable. For some people, being successful means having a lot of money and becoming rich but being successful is much more important than being rich. Our parents and teachers ask us to work hard and focus on our studies so that we achieve success and be capable enough of finding the path to success.
A personâs life has no value without having dreams. To achieve success or the goal of your life, you need to work accordingly. So your achievement decides the kind of person you must be and the kind of lifestyle you must maintain. If a person has dreams but sits idle without putting effort, then there is no value and no success. A person can be successful if they have the dedication to their goals and the courage to face all the challenges. For some people, success means having a lot of money. But real success is achieving your dream and achieving your goal. A person who dreams of becoming a doctor can become a doctor only if he puts in the required effort and works hard. Suppose he knows which path to choose and how to work on the path. There is no shortcut to success. To be successful, you need to follow the path of honesty, truthfulness and hard work. The path to success is never so easy and has no alternative. A person will have to cross all the hurdles and still be strong enough to walk through the path. If you give up, then you fail. It might take time and a lot of effort to find the solution to every problem, but there is always a solution; we just need to look in the right direction.
Success is a strong and powerful word with a deep meaning, which might vary from one person to another. To attain success or your life’s objective, you must work tirelessly. Your success determines the type of person you must be and the lifestyle you must keep. There is no worth and no achievement if a person has dreams but does nothing to pursue them. A person can achieve success if they are committed to their objectives and have the courage to confront any challenges that come on their way to success. For some, success entails a large sum of money. However, the accurate measure of success is realising your dream and attaining your objective. A person who aspires to be a doctor can only accomplish it if he puts in the necessary effort and works hard. If only he knew which road to take and how to get started on it. There is no such thing as a quick fix for success. You must pursue the route of honesty, truthfulness, and strenuous effort to be successful. The road to success is never easy, and there are no shortcuts. Finding a solution to any problem may take time and a lot of effort, but there is always a solution; we only need to seek in the proper direction. A person must overcome all of the obstacles while remaining strong enough to proceed along the path. If you give up on the struggles, then you can never achieve your dreams.
What is meant by success?
Success means achieving your dreams and goals. The meaning of success might differ from one person to another, but success gives you real happiness.
How can I achieve success?
To achieve success in life, you need to be determined and dedicated towards your dreams. It would help if you were focused and must find the path to success. Life is full of opportunities and full of hurdles. The opportunities might knock on your door, but you will have to open the door and find the path to it. The path to success is never easy, so one must not give up on the struggles.

Essay on Success 300 Words
Success determines what kind of person you want to become in life and how many efforts you are doing to become successful. Everyone has a different viewpoint of success as for some it is to live a good lifestyle, for others, it may be to earn money for daily living or to become some famous celebrity in life. Well, success depends upon the perspective of a person, however, the main objective of success is to achieve a certain goal in life.
It is important to understand that success can never be copied from anyone as nowadays people usually admire celebrities or singers and want to become the one without thinking about their own talent and personality. So, one must understand that it is their own unique attribute that helps them become successful in life.
To become successful requires three things in life that are hard work, determination and aspiration to accomplish the main objective of life. Successful people do things in their own way and do not copy otherâs methodologies to become successful. Obviously, it is good to learn from the experience of others but it would be wise to use your own way and methods to achieve something in life.
Well, everything is achieved by sacrificing something in life so one must be ready to face challenges in the path of success. These challenges demand your time and efforts so if you want to become successful you must be ready to give up certain things in life.
Hard work is something that will definitely help you reap benefits and success comes when you do hard work with complete determination to achieve your overarching goal. Success can be achieved when you polish your skills and continuously learn and develop your personality in a particular domain. It is not achieved in a day so you need to keep patience while you are walking on the path of your journey. The goal may seem to be very difficult sometimes but the one who never loses hope and never gives up is the one who emerges as a successful person in life.

Elevate Your Writing with Our Free Writing Tools!
Did you know that we provide a free essay and speech generator, plagiarism checker, summarizer, paraphraser, and other writing tools for free?
Most students may find it easy to write answers in two to three pages, but; a 300-word essay requires much more than just information! Regardless of the topic selected for your essay, our top speech writing service is ready to give you the best results.
Tutors often assign their students with short essays to gauge their knowledge, literary skills, and opinions. The student is supposed to give their views or explain a phenomenon using concise language. It takes one or two pages to write up a 300 words essay.
However, just because it is short doesnât mean it should be vague. Instead, it requires you to plan, research deeply about the topic and then write with precision. These are the skills that will earn you a top grade in your assignments.
Tips for Writing a Killer 300 Word Essay
- Research on the topic
Before anything, you need to make yourself conversant with what the essay is about. Have a full understanding of the essay question. This will help you know the right answer that the examiner needs. Research about what you are writing and have your facts straight.
Remember, if you are going to convince the audience, then you will need to provide them with the necessary information in your essay.
- Take time to plan your essay
If you are going to choose EssayHub , then you need to be well organized. This means that you must pay attention to the format. In most cases, the examiner will only give you instructions such as âexplain this and that in 300 wordsâ. It is up to you to know what to include in your introduction, body, or conclusion. Itâs critical to draft up an outline before you write the main essay. Pick the significant points and illustrations that you will use when writing your essay. This makes your work neat and evades the trap of being fluffy or redundant.
- Edit your essay
After you have written your work, it is crucial to read the essay at least two times before submitting it. The first read is a chance to do away with typos and other grammatical errors. The second read gives you new ideas on things you should have possibly omitted or included in the essay.
300 Word Essay Outline
The outline gives you the format to write a killer short essay. It acts as the skeleton onto which your content attaches. When you have the layout, you can write the essay in less than thirty minutes. Most essays have four main segments; title, introduction, body, and conclusion.
The title signals the main message you expect in the article. The first paragraph is usually the introduction, and it captures the readerâs attention to read. The body is divided into different sections that handle each of the points that are supporting your argument. Then, the conclusion paragraph sums up and signs off the essay.
Some teachers may give you the topic. However, if they donât, be sure to pick the best. You can do this by finding a topic that favors you the most. Talk about a field that you are familiar with to have enough material to write about. You may also need to research widely about the topic with which you have been presented. Make your title short and let it summarize the text at hand.
- Introduction
The introduction paragraph needs to be brief and aim at acquainting the reader with the topic and grab their attention. An introduction paragraph will be simple to write if you are already conversant with the matter. After hooking the reader to the essay, state your thesis and, in a captivating way, lead your audience to the body paragraphs. Keep your introduction paragraph about 50 words.
Start your introduction paragraph with a conclusive hook. This statement is broad enough to capture the readers’ minds and a meta-theme of your essay. Remember, it is not the thesis but a general perception. e.g.:
âWhen a man tries to fight against powers beyond him, no matter how hard he strives, he will submit to their will.â
The thesis statement is a sentence that carries the argument of the essay. It is not the title, but it takes the meaning of the topic and the body. If youâve been provided with a topic to write about, you should look to pick the direction. The direction of your subject is the thesis. e.g.:
âThis is clearly shown in Sophocles classical Theban play âOedipus Rexâ- where the prince fights against a prophecy to kill his dad and wed his mum, but his efforts only lead him to fulfill it.â
Your other sentence(s) on the introduction section should lay the ground for the oncoming points.
The body of a three hundred word essay should have 2-3 paragraphs. None of these should exceed 100 words. Itâs advisable to keep it 75 words (4-6 sentences). If you use two paragraphs in this section, the word count should be 100 for each. 70-75 words should be used when you have three points to discuss. Each of the paragraphs should have its point of discussion hooked to the thesis.
Body Paragraph 1
- Strongest supportive point
- Illustrations
- Explanation
- A conclusion statement tied to the thesis
- A transition to the next paragraph
Body Paragraph 2
- Strongpoint
- Illustration
- Conclusion sentence tied to the thesis
- Transition to the next paragraph
Body Paragraph 3
- Weakest point
- Conclusion paragraph
This section requires you to give a factual summary of your essay in about 50 words. The ideal conclusion sentence should have 3-4 sentences. The first should restate the thesis, and the other two summarize the article. Then, it would help if you signaled that you are signing off using an ending statement.
- Restate the thesis
- Summarize the essay
- Ending statement

300 Word Essay Samples
Sample 1: oedipus rex, proof that fate rules.
When a man tries to fight against powers beyond him, he will submit to their will no matter how hard he strives. This is clearly shown in Sophoclesâ classical Theban play âOedipus Rex,â where the prince fights against a prophecy to kill his dad and wed his mum, but his efforts to oppose only lead him to fulfill it.
Humans live in a pre-structured world, and the only thing they can do is to toe the already set lines. While it is easy for everyone to change the set principles that run the world, they end up losing the fight. Oedipus runs away from home to escape the curse of marrying his mother and killing his father. Unfortunately, it turns out that his family in Olympus is related to him by adoption. So, while he tries to change and lead a healthy life, he ends up killing his birth father at the crossroads and then marries his birth mother. His human efforts only speed up the fulfillment of the prophecy.
Secondly, society acts as a vehicle through which fate gets fulfilled. The messenger from the King of Thebes sends him to kill Oedipus, but instead, he leaves him to die in the field. A shepherd sees the boy and takes him to the barren royal family in his home country. Then, when heâs grown up, the people around Oedipus tell him about the prophecy, which makes him feel urged to run away. In the process, he fulfills what fate has in store for him.
This clearly explains how difficult it is for humans to set a separate life path from what fate has already established. Humans are bound by fate, and it controls the things they do no matter how hard they try. Oedipus Rex is a victim of the predetermined life, and thereâs little he can do about it. His efforts to evade the abomination only lead him into tripping into it. In short, the play is a classical indication of the extent to which deities can take control of human life.
Sample 2: Technical Skills are More Important than Theoretical Subjects
Students’ culture in high school and colleges flocking to take theoretical subjects at the expense of acquiring technical skills needs to be controlled. Society needs more technical skills than conceptual skills to develop. Thus, the sooner we encourage people to take skill courses, the better for our future.
Technical subjects such as the sciences teach people to perform real work and achieve concrete results. Technical skills are needed for development and facing the challenges brought by modernization and civilization. The world today needs people who can come up with practical solutions to pressing matters. On the other hand, the results of theoretical subject-related solutions are usually abstract. This ends up having too many ideas but little efforts to use them in transforming society. Thus, if most students would take technical skills, it would make the world a better place.
Then, the massive influx of people with non-applicable theoretical skills flooding the job market is unnecessarily increasing unemployment and poverty rates. Every government worldwide is trying to fight unemployment and poverty while they can efficiently address these problems by giving their citizens the proper education. Technical skills equip students with hands-on abilities to make things, and it is not easy for them to be jobless. People with such skills donât need to be formally employed as they can use their aptitude to sort their lives. This makes such skills more critical than those that are theoretical.
Modern society is moving fast, and the need for technical skills keeps outdoing that of theoretical capabilities. Technical skills help reduce the rate of unemployment and poverty. At the same time, they increase the workforce needed to transform and develop society by offering hands-on solutions to daily challenges. Therefore, it is doubtless that it is high time the enrollment to technical courses is increased as compared to theoretical subjects.
Sample 3: Democracy is an Expensive Necessity
Democracy is one of the best-known methods of governance. However, it does not come without its flaws. Several jurisdictions worldwide have adopted the essence of having the people determine the way they want to be ruled. However, since the principle of self-determination is highly revered, it is the most expensive way to order people.
Democracy requires frequent elections to determine new leaders and give people the chance to decide on the direction they want their societies to take. However, this only ends up ruining the economy. In most countries, the electioneering year records closures of businesses due to political uncertainties. Currencies and shares lose their value in the process until the leaders are sworn in. This makes democracy an expensive deal.
In the same breadth, the idea of having elections only brings about unnecessary competition among the political class, which has nothing to do with the development of society. In particular, politicians fix problems for fame and secure another term in office instead of doing it to transform peopleâs lives. This fuels populism as politicians strive to outdo each other in the eyes of the public. In the end, the services that people are offered are not geared towards making the world a better place. This makes this mode of governance costly as it hurts essential parts of the economy.
In short, democracy is indeed an expensive necessity. Elections cause unnecessary political instability, which hurts the economy. The ruling class typically work for showoff instead of having the interest of the people at heart. However, despite the economic glitches attached to self-rule, it protects freedoms. People can vote for individuals they find worthy of ruling them. Public participation policy also ensures that the people take part in the decision making process. This part tries to cut the balance in shaping this form of governance as an expensive necessity.
